11x17 is a periodical made from a folded sheet of 11x17 inch paper, with a different theme or focus for each issue. It is edited, designed and published by Public Collectors. Public Collectors was founded by Marc Fischer in 2007 and is based in Chicago, Illinois.  Building on QUARANZINE—the single sheet publication that Public Collectors produced at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, 11x17 also uses a single sheet format but this time it's the larger tabloid format. The periodical will be released in sequential sets. Reprints are not planned and to preserve the surprise of opening each issue, only the front covers are shown. okay i finished it and first thought:

i kinda love that they didn't show the spinny toy actually falling over, but how you could see it kinda you know starting to waver. idk really why its not like any symbolic reason cause i never really realise that shit in movies, but i just like it. cuz i was over here fucking terrified that it was just gonna keep spinning, but then it wavers, and thats enough for me to feel so relieved.

then like actual talk:

i like the whole ya know inception part, with all the dream layers and shit. i love me a good "were going down layer by layer and have to time it right to climb up all at once". also enjoy the confusing-ness of it all, because thats literally what dreams feel like. and "Non, je ne regrette rien" playing like that sounded really beautiful, ediths voice really works when you edit it to sound so ominous. good song choice,, and if i were to be all metaphors and shit, id probably comment on how regret plays as a theme in the movie but i dont know enough about shit like that. uhh,, i like how the movie begins with them failing a job, idk why really. and i also like how the whole movie builds its world like so quickly using that. like you immideatly understand how long these people have like worked in the field, even though you obviously cant really cauge their skills of "extraction" due to that not being a real thing. and like,, i really enjoy movies like this, where it feels like its just one snippet of this huge world. like nothing really ended, concluded, for anyone other than Cobb. the others will continue their stories.

-the start scene, when they wake up the first time, idk like, i immideatly knew that it was a dream when Saito started petting the carpet, but i guess that isnt a bad thing really cuz really i just realised it along with Saito,, its not like it was supposed to be a bigger twist than that.

- unfortunately because of Now You See Me i associate michael cane's face with a horrible man, so that kinda ruined the grandpa thing for me, but thats my fault.

-uhh joseph gordon-levit hot. nothing else really. i like his voice.

and like,, on a surface level arthur and eames do not really interact much, but i fully see how the fanfiction writers got the idea for the ship.

-mal was such a character. like,, she felt so god damn deep. hard to explain. i guess,, it really felt like she was a projection of a person.

-i liked how Saito was a good person, in the grand scheme of things.

-fischer looked hot when he was really disheveled.

- i actually enjoyed dicaprio's performance. i dont know shit about acting so i usually dont say shit about it either, but this time i genuinely found myself thinking "i really like how dicaprio's playing cobb". and i really liked how he stayed in limbo for saito and not for mal.

- i looked up the cast cuz im not good with actor names, and i think its really funny how like, on the cast page that google creates, every other actor has like a picture in front of those red carpet event walls, and then theres G-L who's just having a great time in a beautiful forest. and also its funny to me how like, only "Maurice Fischer" gets a full name.

umm yeah. its a good watch.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller (Robert Altman, 1971)

Screenplay: Robert Altman, Brian McKay, based on a novel by Edmund Naughton. Cinematography: Vilmos Zsigmond. Production design: Leon Erickson. Film editing: Lou Lombardo.  McCabe & Mrs. Miller may be Robert Altman's best film, as well as the greatest of all "stoner Westerns." It's very much of the era in which it was made, with its fatalistic view of its loner protagonist, doomed by his naive willingness to go up against the big corporate mining interests who want to buy him out. Hippies against the Establishment, if you will. It's also very much at the heart of the mythos of the American Western, which always centered on the loner against overwhelming odds. McCabe & Mrs. Miller came along at a time when the Western was in eclipse, with most of its great exponents, like John Ford and Howard Hawks, in retirement, and some of its defining actors, like John Wayne, having gone over to the side of the Establishment. So when iconoclasts like Altman and Warren Beatty, coming off of their respective breakthrough hits M*A*S*H (1970) and Bonnie and Clyde (Arthur Penn, 1967), took an interest in filming Edmund Naughton's novel, it was clear that we were going to get something revisionist, a Western with a grubby setting and an antiheroic protagonist. The remarkable thing is that McCabe & Mrs. Miller, perhaps more than either M*A*S*H or Bonnie and Clyde, has transcended its revisionism and formed its own tradition. For once, Altman's mannerisms -- overlapping dialogue, restless camerawork, reliance on a stock company of actors like Michael Murphy, John Schuck, and Shelley Duvall, and a generally loosey-goosey mise-en-scène -- don't overwhelm the story. Some of this is probably owing to Beatty's own firmly entrenched ego, which was often at odds with Altman's. His performance gives the film a center and grounding that many of Altman's other films lack, especially since he works so well in tandem with Julie Christie's performance as Mrs. Miller, the only thing about the film that the Academy deigned worthy of an Oscar nomination. How the Academy could have overlooked the contribution of cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond remains a mystery, except that at this point the cinematographers branch was dominated by old-school directors of photography who had been brought up in the studio system, which was to flood the set with light -- one reason why Gordon Willis's magisterial chiaroscuro in The Godfather (Francis Ford Coppola, 1972) failed to get a nomination the following year.

Soak in the soul-stirring words of these poetic visionaries at the exhibition opening for #TarotInPandemicAndRevolution this Sat, 3/25.The TIP&R deck is a unique and holistic piece of art that combines striking visual images with stimulating poetry. Each of the 81 cards in the deck has its own corresponding poem, adding depth and nuance to the already moving imagery. 

Tongo Eisen-Martin is a radical poet and educator whose work is grounded in the struggle for social justice and liberation. His latest book, "Blood on the Fog: Blood on the Fog: Pocket Poets Series No. 62" is a searing indictment of systemic racism and violence in America. 

devorah major is a prolific poet and novelist, known for her captivating and honest portrayals of Black existence. Her latest collection, "Califia's Daughters," is described as “a book of wisdom and whimsy, of mythology sprinkled with stardust. Every poem is a journey into a new desire fleshed out of history’s nightmares and our ancestors’ dreams” by author Toni Asante Lightfoot. 

Michael Warr is a renowned poet, editor, and community organizer who has just been selected again as an SF Public Library Library Laureate for his book, “Of Poetry & Protest: From Emmett Til to Trayvon Marvin”. Warr’s most recent project is one he edited called, "Of Poetry & Protest: From Emmett Till to Trayvon," which addresses the unjust killings of Black boys and men, similar to his contribution to the Tarot anthology.…just to name a few.
