William’s Dwarf Gecko (Lygodactylus williamsi)

Conservation Status- Critically Endangered
Habitat- Tanzania
Size (Weight/Length)- 7 cm
Diet- Insects
Cool Facts- Native to only a few kilometers of Tanzania, William’s dwarf gecko or electric blue gecko are some of the most brilliantly blue lizards. Males sport a bright blue coloration while the females are a duller brown. Active during the day, small groups of these geckos gather on sunning rocks. Males are highly territorial and will posture against other males to chase them away from their groups of females. Males will court females by inflating a throat pouch and bobbing their heads. Sadly, due to their amazing coloration, William’s dwarf geckos are highly endangered. They are popularly smuggled in the illegal pet trade.
Rating- 11/10 (Now that’s a Pokémon.)

Exams are coming up. Instead of studying, I wrote some silly thoughts I’ve had about my LPS humanizations. Because that’s more fun!
Disclaimer, these are just my personal perceptions of them- feel free to disagree on anything.

Ready? Let’s go!
-First, let’s mention their sexualities. Sunil is pansexual, Zoe is bisexual, Pepper is also bisexual (with a preference for women), Penny is asexual and heteromantic, Vinnie is also bi (with a preference for men), Minka is aroace, and Russell is demisexual.
-All their colored hair is all natural. They just live in a world where human hair colors varies a whole lot more.
-Musical instruments? Ooh, yes! The ones that are most into music are Sunil, Penny, and Zoe. Zoe sings (pff, duh-) Sunil can play guitar- both electric and acoustic, but he prefers electric since it sounds cooler. Penny is learning piano. As for the others? Vinnie did drumming back in high school (he and Sunil would even play together sometimes) but he doesn’t as much now. Minka likes the smaller, portable instruments- idk how to describe it, lol. The stuff like triangles, maracas, tambourines… Meanwhile Pepper and Russell just aren’t into playing music that much, but will cheer the others on.
-Russell’s canines are a little sharper and longer than normal. The others like to joke that he’s a vampire because of it.
-Penny has a collection of stuffed animals. Her favorite is a blue-purple panda (which is literally just the actual panda Penny Ling from the show lol-)
-Minka has a fascination for bugs. Going out and observing them, collecting them, studying them- girly just finds bugs interesting.
-Contrasting with Sunil- he has a big big fear of bugs. And Pepper loves to exploit that fear. Most of the time its just playful scares involving plastic bug toys. Or pretending a bug is on his neck or something. While to her, his reactions are funny, he doesn’t think the same.
-In terms of money, Zoe is the most well off among everyone. Her parents are super rich and have spoiled her throughout life. So she does the same to her friends. She’ll just buy them extravagant, expensive gifts out of nowhere. Of course, everyone is friends with her beyond that, but it’s a neat little bonus.
-Pepper is super particular about smell. She owns several different perfumes, colognes, deodorants, sanitizers… Which one she picks depends on her mood for the day.
-Oh hey, more Pepper. When she gets nervous, she’ll sweat. A lot. Kinda adds onto the previous headcanon listing; she’ll use all this stuff to hide the odor. Sometimes she’ll go overboard though, and mix up different clashing scents together. so it becomes kinda strong and overwhelming.
-Vinnie can be super indecisive. Say for example, going to a restaurant. If he’s already been there many times before and already knows his favorite, then perfect! He’ll just go with that. But when it comes to new places… oh boy. He’ll take frickin’ forever to decide. So he’ll usually tag someone along to pick for him in cases like that (usually Sunil). He’ll probably end up liking it anyway.
-Minka wears crocs, right? And you can put lil jibbitz on crocs, right? Well, each jibbit on her crocs represents each of her friends- a banana for herself, a book for russell, a sparkly magic wand for Sunil, the same flower Pepper wears on her suspenders, a bow for Penny, a microphone for Zoe, and the same gecko foot print on Vinnie’s jacket.
Aaaaaand that’s about all I’ve got for now! Should I do more? Maybe even with more characters. Blythe? The other (humanized) pets? Do tell.

my gecko guy
Neil looks at the counter, sees the bell, and dings it. He’s impatient, but weighs this against being too visible in a store with people in it, so shuffles his weight from one foot to the other and keeps his eye on the person in the corner with the oversized coat.
Someone emerges from the door behind the counter, and says, ���Yes?”
Neil frowns at him. “I need a book.”
The guy nods. “I assumed.”
“Where’s your animal section?”
The guy hops onto his stool, and taps a couple of keys on his laptop without removing his gaze from Neil’s. “Sir, this is a book store.”
Neil doesn’t smile.
But then neither does the guy.
After a second he hops back off his stool and waves at Neil to follow him. Neil does. He just needs a book, then he can go do his stupid homework and go home.
The guy leads him to an aisle that does, admittedly, say Animals on the side, and Neil says, “Thanks,” and starts running his eyes along the shelf.”
“What are you looking for?”
Neil flicks his eyes back to see the guy leaning against the shelves, watching him. Neil looks away again. “I need a book about snakes.”
After a second, the guy says, “Huh.”
“What?”
“Take offence at this, I saw you more of a dog person.”
Neil shakes his head. “Too needy.”
“Hence: snakes.”
“Right, I’ve heard you only need to feed them like once a week.”
“Sure.” Neil picks out a book and flicks through it. The guy pipes up again. “I have questions.”
“I’m busy.”
The guy barrels on. “Is that the only thing you know about snakes?” Neil waves the book at him, like, duh. “That book is ten years old.” Neil turns to the publishing page. Book guy is right.
“You think snake science has moved on considerably in ten years?”
Neil looks at the guy as he nods this time. “Yes.”
“Listen, I know you’re trying to help –”
“Not really.”
“But I really need to find a good book about snakes.”
“You said that.”
“So can you just –” Neil motions. The guy just folds his arms. It makes Neil’s eyes flick to his chest where the name badge Andrew sits.
“Go away maybe?” Neil suggests.
“That was a bit pathetic,” Andrew says, almost smiling now.
It was, and Neil doesn’t understand why. He puts the book back. “Fine. Maybe you can actually help then?”
Andrew moves forward, precisely, like he doesn’t need to look at the book he reaches out and plucks from the shelf. He hands it to Neil, and Neil reads Guide to Geckos.
“This isn’t snakes.”
“Snakes suck. Get a gecko.”
Neil turns the book over, and squints at the back. “What even is a gecko?”
“Small lizard thing.”
“Ok, well, I want a snake.”
“Snakes mostly want to hide all day. If you keep them well, you should barely see them. They’re pointless. Geckos move around, climb stuff, have lives.”
“You have one?”
“Two. Gargoyles.”
“Right.” Neil looks back down at the book in his hand, and sighs. “I just wanted a snake.”
“Why?”
Neil looks back at the stranger, Andrew, and makes an unusual decision. He says, “My therapist says it might help me build relationships.”
Andrew definitely smiles now, smirking as he says, “Fuck off.”
“You fuck off,” Neil mumbles, moving to put the book back – but Andrew’s hand on his stops him.
“Ok, well if that is the assignment –” Andrew wrestles the book from him. “I am selling you this. I will give you the number of my guy.”
“Your gecko guy?” Neil is already following him out of the aisle.
“My gecko guy,” Andrew nods, walking behind the counter and scanning the book. He looks up at Neil. “His number is in my apartment. You can meet my geckos.”
Neil shrugs. “Ok? I guess. Your gargoyle geckos.”
Andrew puts Neil’s book in a paper bag. “Maybe I will also introduce you to my electric blue gecko.” He looks at him again. “Your eyes are the same colour.”
Neil smiles, frowning. “My – eyes?”
Andrew throws the bag at him, says, “Shall we?” and grabs a leather bookbag in one hand, and a Closed sign in the other.

Announcement from the Tortuga:
ATTENTION: There will be no snakes at this Friday’s movie/sleepover night. There was a typo in last week’s announcement bulletin that said we will have snakes. SNACKS is what we will have.
Not that we have anything against snakes— in fact, we think they’re great. In fact, we will have snakes at the Tortuga HQ in May during our Reptile Hangout Day.
To summarize:
April 12: No snakes.
May 22: Yes snakes.
Mikey: Today a kid in my drama class* got detention, but he pulled a Monopoly Get Out of Jail Free card out of his pocket and my teacher let him out of it.

That image for KUNG FU PANDA One looks a wee bit different, doesn't it? It's the very first publicity pic that got out for the movie, waaaay back in the fall of 2005...
I skimmed through an old article of mine on another site, and I remember the world of upcoming animated movies... In around late 2005... Looking like this.
Yes, it's a random year. No milestone or anything, as 2005 was 18 years ago, rather than 15 or 20... But I thought I'd share this.

Shall we dive in? I think I will, briefly...
Most of the 2006 movies made it to their intended release frames, as many of them had trailers out by the end of 2005. After Michael Eisner stepped down as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, his successor Bob Iger bought Pixar, and two of Pixar's top brass - John Lasseter and Ed Catmull - assumed control of Walt Disney Feature Animation, changing the last two words to "Animation Studios". Their "overhaul" of the studio resulted in the delay - and re-titling - of A DAY WITH WILBUR ROBINSON, which became MEET THE ROBINSONS and opened in spring 2007. RATROPOLIS is retitled to FLUSHED AWAY, to avoid possible confusion with RATATOUILLE, so as not to have another ANTZ/BUG'S LIFE, FINDING NEMO/SHARK TALE situation on everybody's hands.
DELGO, infamously, got pushed back multiple times. It was already pushed back several times by that point to begin with, until randomly appearing out of nowhere a little before Christmas 2008. Happy 15th anniversary!
FOODFIGHT!, an even more infamous production, wouldn't be released until 2012 at the earliest after so much went wrong during "production" up until its sale by its completion bond company. We all know the story of that travesty!
2007 also largely stays the same... THE SIMPSONS MOVIE was thought to have been a 2008 release back in 2007, and out of nowhere a teaser for it showed up before ICE AGE 2 and confirmed it was actually coming out in summer 2007, which it did! AMERICAN DOG was to be Chris Sanders' sophomore Disney Animation effort, until Lasseter fired him from the film at the end of 2006, and it would be completely retooled into BOLT, which released in fall 2008.
2008 is where things get interesting... Outside of THE SIMPSONS MOVIE moving up a year, we have a Paramount/Nickelodeon Smurfs movie that was set to kick off a trilogy and had a cast... And curiously, after three Sony-made Smurfs movie, we're getting a Paramount/Nickelodeon Smurfs movie in 2025.
CAT TALE was to be made by Imagi, who of course did the 2007 TMNT movie and the 2009 ASTRO BOY picture. It, too, had a cast and a logo. It was supposed to be about a cat ending up in an all-dog city, playing off of old cats-vs.-dogs tropes. I wonder how much of this thing got quietly transplanted into PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK over the years? That too was a looooong-gestating film.
TOY STORY 3 was not going to be the movie we all know, this was going to be the version that was being made by Circle 7, a studio Disney set up to make sequels to Pixar's films. This was when it looked like Pixar were going to part ways with The Walt Disney Company after their contract was up. Disney had first rights to the movies produced under the contract, and these sequels were a way for big bad Diz to play hardball and get them to renegotiate. Iger threw out this Eisner tactic, and instead offered to simply buy the studio. Pixar took over TOY STORY 3 and made their movie, not what the Circle 7 movie was going to be: Buzz Lightyear being recalled to Taiwan.
Then you have... KUNG FU GECKO... Sharing a year with KUNG FU PANDA. I remember the minor controversy over this one on animation blogs and forums and such back in the day; that DreamWorks were supposedly trying to sabotage this small Singaporean animated film that had a trailer out and everything. (It wasn't rolling in theaters, you had to dig for it online. It was an independent production through and through, and the guy spearheading it had worked for DWA in the past.) But yeah... This thing was real... And it never got made, because its studio (Egg Story) got shuttered. Apparently it was retooled into a TV production, but I've seen no sign of its existence. If it had been made, it would've probably been re-titled.
(Update: Actually... It kinda... Was... Made? As an NFT animated series. Yeeeuch.)
2009 and beyond... DreamWorks had the bulk of the titles here. REX HAVOC, a comic adaptation, would later be retooled into an original story sharing some similarities: MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. IT CAME FROM EARTH! - about aliens dealing with human invaders - never happened, ROUTE 66 - a truly bizarre project about the statues in front of the various local businesses being anthropomorphic - got left behind, animal rock band romp PUNK FARM was later transported to MGM but ultimately went nowhere... SHREK 4 would of course happen, the prequel did not. PUSS IN BOOTS went from straight-to-video affair to theatrical film, and dropped the subtitle THE STORY OF AN OGRE KILLER. Similarly, the Penguins from MADAGASCAR were to get a direct-to-video movie of their own that would later go theatrical.
Circle 7 had a MONSTERS, INC. sequel and a FINDING NEMO sequel ready to go by the end of 2005, with scripts and everything.
RIBBIT was one of many proposed Vanguard Animation movies, after their debut feature VALIANT was released and when HAPPILY N'EVER AFTER was in production. Apparently they still plan to make it, along with like 20 other movies they had wanted to make for years... It's a very weird production company.
Disney Animation's RAPUNZEL UNBRAIDED, of course, got retooled into RAPUNZEL and was given to Glen Keane and Dean Wellins to direct... Until Keane and Wellins stepped down, Lasseter gave the film to Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, the film became TANGLED. This partially explains why it's one of the most expensive animated films ever, Disney got pretty far with test work and other development work for UNBRAIDED. FRAIDY CAT was to be the next Ron Clements-John Musker picture for the studio, but they left as morale got lower and lower before Lasseter and Catmull were put in charge. When they returned to Disney Animation, they were assigned THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, and never looked back on FRAIDY CAT. (It wasn't their concept to begin with.)
Yeah, I just felt like reminiscing about my younger days on the Internet and the first time I caught wind of lists of upcoming movies that I was initially unaware of, lol.

Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry. Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )

Electric Blue Day Gecko
A.K.A: William's Dwarf Gecko, Turquoise Dwarf Gecko
Scientific Name: Lygodactylus williamsi
Region: Screw pine trees in a small forested area in eastern Tanzania - only about 3 square miles (~8km²)
Size: About 2"-3" (~5-8cm) without the tail
Interesting Note: Sadly, this gorgeous gecko is another critically endangered species - in part, due to loss of habitat within their already-small range - primarily for banana plantations. The greater threat; however, is illegal capture for the pet trade. This is especially damaging for this species as the geckos are typically caught by cutting off the tops of the trees the geckos are known to sleep in - which not only illegally removes those geckos from their homes, but also destroys part of the dwindling habitable areas for the geckos that remain.
Hopefully conservation efforts for this beautiful creature will start recovering their populations soon, or this may be a species that doesn't have as pleasant a story as last week's species. : /
