SUN'S OUT TONGUE'S OUT

My entry for the Unsounded Fanworks Contest and tribute to the bestest girl Pantoffel! If you like it please give it a vote!

In the meantime, here are some detail photos and a breakdown of the work that went into making it under the cut, featuring the bestest boi and model, my pupper Sharky. Scroll to the end for a special treat!

The saddle is real leatherwork at a tiny scale. Everything patterned, wet-shaped, dyed, finished, and assembled by yours truly. The saddle blanket is custom-made to match as well. The seat of the saddle is stitched to the base just at the front and back to allow the pieces to move in relation to each other for a more comfortable fit.

The pommel and backrest are both modeled and 3D printed by yours truly as well, with sports tape for the fabric on the pommel. Both are attached using rivet backings set through hollow points in the prints.

From the back more detail can be seen for the backrest. It is wet-shaped and stretched over the base, and then flathead pins were cut short and turned into the tiniest nails to nail it in place. No glue was used at all in it's construction.

The collar was constructed so that it fit around Sharky's head and then the tension in the straps under his legs pulled it tight. Those straps are attached to loops placed in the stitching with lobster clasps. Much of the construction is hidden in his majestic chest fluff, but a good chunk of it can be seen here.

And now on to his co-star, Captain Emil Toma!

This was a Finn action figure that I did heavy modifications to. Original details were mostly sanded off for a vaguely person-shaped base thar I then sculpted details back onto with epoxy-putty. Even his face recieved a bit of shaping to change the underlying bone structure to match Emil better. All of the original joints still move save for his left wrist, which needed to be sealed in place lest his hand fall off. The gun the figure was holding was replaced by his sword. I decided to stick to mostly early/mid-comic designs, picturing this as a toy a Crescean kid might play with before the events of the comic take place.

From the back we can see the leather pouch which was hand-stitched together and attached with a rivet back. It's fully functional and can store approximately 4 quarters in it. The scabbard was 3D printed with a peg for attachment purposes and the parts that 'hold' it to the sash are clothing tags.

The sash itself is fabric and held in place with fashion tape. Edges were melted to seal them and then folded under to allow me more control over how they wrinkle. The badge is hand-sculpted from the same epoxy-putty used to modify the body. It's about as tall as my thumbnail and I have never wished for a resin printer more ardently than when I was sculpting it with a straight pin.

Proportionally the two of them are nearly perfect together! But, regrettably, the figure was too heavy to sit in the saddle on his own. Especially on a dog that can out-run a dalmatian! Hence why they were photoshopped together for the final image.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of the utter insanity that has been my free time for the last few months. I actually started this before the contest was announced...and through some setbacks and bad timing of life events still didn't get done until the last minute. Unsounded is an amazing comic with wonderful characters and dialogue. I have read it one and a half times now, and I think I have found satisfactory answers to a very important question. What are the characters' opinions on trans people?

Duane Adelier: I think he would be supportive of trans people if he met and talked to one. He would still need a bit more convincing to accept non-binary genders though, and he'd probably still be casually misogynistic.

Sette Frummagem: She would probably be supportive but would also make transphobic jokes occasionally, no matter what boundaries any individual trans people have set. I'd put the rest of the Frummagem family in this category, with varying degrees of disrespect, except from Anadyne, who i think would be just supportive, as she is not interested in petty bouts of one-ups-manship.

Mathis Quigley: I don't think he cares for trans people. But only because he is generally misanthropic, not because he is particularly bigoted. Nevertheless, I wouldn't expect any allyship from him.

Matty: He's a sweet baby boy. He would definitely be supportive.

Jivi: He would be supportive, but he would be prickly about it initially. Like he might get one's name or pronouns wrong and when they correct him he'd get mad, but I think that eventually he would get over it and be normal about it.

Emil Toma: There is a point where Mathis debates Duane's humanity but Emil is like "you say your name is Duane and I accept it and that's how I'll treat you". So I think he would be supportive of trans people. If a trans person committed crimes against the crescian queen, Emil would definitely use their correct name and pronouns as he arrested them.

Elka: She would be generally positive, but she would misgender a trans person she thinks did something bad.

Bastion Winalils: Supportive, but he may or may not be a chaser.

Queen Sonorie: Of course she is supportive of trans people. However, her plans as a politician do not include them, as she believes she has much more pressing matters to attend to.

General Bell: If Bell lived in the current real world he would be a youtuber that made videos about being an alpha male, so I'm pretty sure he would be a transphobe.

Cutter: Transphobic, but only because he hates everyone already.

Starfish: Transphobic. He would commit hate crimes.

Murkoph: Supportive. He would commit hate crimes.

Duane says that Toma is "uncommonly decent" for Queen's dog. While Emil is a genuinely good man, is he really an *uncommon* case of human decency among the Queen's peaceguard? I thought by their very job of representing the Queen, they all would need to at least know to put up a dependable, trustworthy front when dealing with citizens, if not truly being particularly virtuous and heroic.

No, of course not. Duane is simply a bigot. He was always able to assume all Crescian men are cowardly, incompetent tit-sucking cucks - to borrow a delightful turn of phrase from Lemuel. Actually meeting with Toma and speaking with him and fighting with him... well, Duane can't say they're ALL assholes now.

I should add that all Crescian men are referred to as dogs of the Queen by Alds, not just Peaceguard or her personal soldiers. That's the primary insult. Crescian men are pussy-whipped, weak-minded, led around by their women. The very idea of having a Queen at all, or female comrades in the military is deeply gross and upsetting to your typical Ald.

Duane's said stuff like this in the past. I think in the Nevergreen he specifically talked shit about Crescians being led about by their women, and Dawn had to pull him away before a fight broke out.

🎙 Where did you first get the idea for Ghost?

// Oh, I actually have a lot of stuff to talk about for this one.

Initially, Mylah's mod and I were working on a sort of villain and hero au with two other ocs, but at some point we realized that the characterizations of both of them had gone so off the rails that these were essentially two entirely new guys.

So we made them into new characters! Paris is pretty much a piece that split off of that initial oc because of that, which...

Here's the two of them side by side. I think for a while Paris was called "Bootleg Tomas" (The guy on the left) up until uh... mid february 2022, when he was first mentioned by name... Which was chosen by a random number generator. (Apparently the other options were Emil, Calyx, and Orion...)

Originally Paris in personality was very similar to Tomas, aka more softspoken and quiet, but he's had a lot of other things and media influence him, from a character in a funny skateboard anime to my own fucking dad (LMAO), so there's a lot, and a lot more that's definitely been lost to time since then.

The Veterinarian - Short Story

To celebrate Test Run going into early access, I'd like to share last month's short story with you folks. I'm also just really excited to share it in general. Here's how Doc met one of the other cast members... Word count: 1.6k

It was a warm Tuesday evening in mid-May, the light pushing its way in through the window was starting to wane, and a young veterinarian was manning the desk at his newly founded medical practice. A powder blue typewriter sat in front of him, its keys rhythmically striking the page as he typed. His handwriting was practically illegible- it wasn't something you needed to learn in order to set a broken leg or inject into a vein. And a photocopier was too expensive anyway. So his funding requests (charity requests, really) would have to be copied by hand, letter by letter, ten or twenty or fifty times.

Today was quiet- even with a price tag of free, not many people were aware of his practice. Sometimes there would be days of silence, with no patients in sight. But the monotony of the rapid thunks against paper was broken by a creaking sound on the other side of the room. The front door. Its hinges were rusty. This place used to be a butcher's shop before the raids drove it out of business. Nothing had been replaced, just scrubbed to within an inch of its life.

Emil's eyes flicked up from his work to watch the approach. The door swung slowly open, and a young man hobbled in from the warm wind outside. He cut an interesting figure- wobbling slightly on one leg, his body long and sinewy, his face mostly hidden by a shock of blonde hair. There was lipstick smeared down his chin. His outfit was mostly obscured by a rough-spun shawl draped over his shoulders, but under it Emil could see a hint of a red slip and fishnet stockings. The fact that he was wearing heels made his unsteady gait even worse.

"I'm afraid I'm a little worse for wear, doc," the man muttered. There was a nervous laughter under it all, like he couldn't contain his irreverence for even a moment. "You don't charge, right? I can't really afford it."

Standing up from his chair, Emil approached the limping man. His voice was tinged with concern. "What happened?"

"You should see how the other guy looks," the guy muttered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm... not doing so hot. I came here cause Tomas said you deal with people like us."

It had only been a few months, but the people had already started to blend out into stories. Remembering a single name like that would be like remembering a single letter of a novella. Context clues would be necessary. "People like who?" He rested a hand on the man's back to start leading him to one of the cots.

"Queers." Oh. The word coming from this man's stained lips was weighed down with baggage that Emil could sense but not understand. "Boys who wear dresses."

The young man allowed himself to be led over to the cot. His leg was certainly broken, though not badly. He had bruises forming on his arms and upper thighs, and one on the left side of his face. Not in any recognizable pattern, at least not without further inspection. He must have been beaten, kicked, maybe by a group. "What's your name?"

There was a pause before he responded. "Yvette." It was hard to tell if it was fake, or if he simply used enough of them that he had to pick which to use. Probably the last one.

As he lowered himself onto the bed, Yvette inhaled sharply and gripped the metal frame with an unsteady hand. "Jesus, doc, I think it's broken..."

"I think so too." Emil kneeled down next to him, his hands tentatively grazing against the fishnets. "I'll need you to remove the stockings, though. With minimal movement. I need to splint it so it will heal correctly."

"Oh my," he muttered, a smile flickering across his lips. The opportunity to jeer at Emil was overriding whatever pain he was in. Normally, I'd expect men to take me to dinner first! Or pay me, at least."

Emil clenched his jaw. He wasn't going to let this phase him. Not even as his cheeks flushed and he averted his eyes. He had to make this interaction normal at all costs. "If you don't mind me asking, what happened to you?"

"Sometimes when a guy sees a pretty girl, he just can't help but drag him into an alley and beat him half to death. Hormones." He said it with such nonchalance. This wasn't unexpected for him.

What was unexpected was the way Yvette hiked up his dress enough to start peeling the fishnets down his thighs. Not enough to be explicit, but a clear invitation. Look, if you'd like. Emil was sure to avert his eyes after catching a glimpse of red lace.

"I'll just be a moment... I need to fetch a splint." Standing up bolt straight, Emil rushed back to his office. Yes, that was where he kept most of his medical supplies. It was also an enclosed space away from this patient. And he needed that right now, if only for a moment.

Bracing his arm against the wall, he took a deep breath. His eyes caught his face in the mirror hanging on the wall. His cheeks and softly freckled nose were flushed, and a bit of sweat was accumulating on his brow. He'd been running this clinic for only a short while, and he felt utterly unprepared to deal with even the most remotely difficult of patients.

A deep breath. He ran his fingers through his crop of dark hair. Unphased. He was going to be unphased.

After collecting his supplies (and himself), Emil stepped back out into the clinic. The patient was reclining on his cot, the pain still evident but not nearly writhing in it like a lot of folks would be. Maybe on opiates? Such a thing wouldn't be uncommon with these lower-city genderfuck types. Take an upper to party, a downer to relax after all that partying, and another upper to keep from falling asleep... and on. Or maybe he was just really good at hiding it.

"You're lucky, the fracture is quite minimal. You'll be up on your feet again in just a few days." Emil quickly set to work wrapping tight cloth bandages around Yvette's leg, starting right at the ankle and moving upwards. "Until then, you shouldn't put too much weight on it or do any strenuous exercise."

"That's horrible," Yvette complained with a hint of a grin. "However will I live without my daily hikes? What about the weightlifting contest on Monday?" Lying there, half propped up on his arms, swimming in his shawl, he looked like a model out of a fancy old painting. Something you'd see on auction in one of those upscale shops in The Heights.

Soon, Emil had finished applying the splint. He ran his fingers over the handiwork, feeling the shape of Yvette's calf under his fingertips. And then he stood up. "That should heal well. I'm afraid there's very little I can do for the bruises, but you don't seem to have any other fractures."

"Thank you so much, doc." He overpronounced every word, holding out a dainty hand with chipped red nail polish. Beckoning. "Come here, let me thank you properly."

Reluctantly, Emil stepped closer. Close enough for Yvette to grab his wrist and pull him in all at once. In half a second he was leaning down with his hands planted on the frame and the cot, his face next to the patient's. The young man's lips grazed his cheek, leaving a delicate kiss. In a hushed tone he muttered, "I wish there was something I could do to repay you for helping me out like this..."

"I don't accept payment for my services." The flush was coming back to Emil's cheeks. He was trying desperately to stay professional.

Yvette's lips got even closer to Emil's ear as he muttered, "How about if you ever need my services, they're free of charge?"

Emil didn't need to question what kind of services he meant. He straightened up, his face hot. "If you need a place to stay while that leg heals... my beds are open until a higher-priority patient needs them." Both of them glanced around the room in unison, remembering that they were completely alone, with two other cots unoccupied.

The next few days were quiet as well. The practice was new, after all. There were periods of relative peace, and periods of intense business. In truth, Emil had hoped it would get busy once Yvette showed up. It didn't.

He wasn't quiet, either. They spoke about his concerns, about how money was tight and clients weren't going to be interested in him for weeks until the bruising got better. They spoke about the city they'd grown up in, how different everything was from their youth. They spoke about work, with Emil trying his hardest to pretend he wasn't interested in this particular topic. And they spoke about each other's bodies, a week or so later, lying next to each other in the warm embrace of Emil's bed.

Running his fingertips along Yvette's side, feeling the bone just under the skin of his hip, Emil muttered, "I don't know how you convinced me to do that. It should go without saying, but sleeping with a patient isn't very professional."

"It was inevitable," Yvette teased. "I always get what I want, doc."

"So what do you want now?"

Yvette paused for a moment, his eyes fluttering shut. His hair was splayed out on the pillow, his makeup still smudged and never removed. "Right now, I want a glass of wine, a massage, and a nice relaxing bubble bath. In the future... I'd like to be a friend, not a patient."

Sighing and letting himself sink down into the mattress, Emil muttered, "I guess if you always get what you want..."

Su personalidad es bastante alegre, carismática, llamativa, le gusta ser muchas veces el centro de atención, sonreír es su mejor forma de acoger a las personas. Es muy amigable aunque cuando no le cae bien alguien a simple vista prefiere mantener su distancia. Es bastante cariñosa, su tono de vos suele ser bastante alto aunque ha intentado moderarlo para no ser tan escandalosa. Su ira es algo difícil de controlar, suele enojarse con mucha frecuencia y por cosas bastante mínimas. Los comentarios de las personas en especial cuando son cercanas a ella le suelen importar mucho aunque en ocasiones intente ocultarlo. Es bastante impuntual, aunque intenta cambiarlo, pase lo que pase siempre llega tarde.

ㅤ ⋆ Enfermedades mentales:

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ— Transtorno bipolar: Este transtorno le provoca altibajos emocionales que van desde depresión hasta episodios maníacos. Los episodios maníacos pueden incluir síntomas como exceso de energía, reducción de la necesidad de dormir y pérdida de noción de la realidad. Los episodios depresivos pueden incluir síntomas como falta de energía, poca motivación y pérdida de interés en las actividades cotidianas. Los episodios de cambios de humor duran de días a meses y también pueden estar asociados con pensamientos suicidas.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ— Transtorno explosivo intermitente: Este transtorno supone episodios repentinos y repetidos de conductas impulsivas, agresivas y violentas o arrebatos verbales agresivos con los que reacciona con demasiada exageración. Para controlar esta enfermedad sigue estrictamente un tratamiento tomando sus pastillas y llendo a psicoterapia para disminuir aquello.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ— Transtorno depresivo: Este mismo lo ha sufrido desde una edad muy temprana, técnicamente desde que "Gran Colombia" murió y ella tuvo que asumir el cargo de cuidar a sus hermanos. El no poder expresar emociones y el tener que cargar con una responsabilidad mayor a tan corta edad logró que poco a poco, y por dentro, la depresión se fuera haciendo mayor perdiendo en gran medida interés en cualquier actividad. Suele tener una tristeza constante y malos hábitos de comida y de sueño (días sin dormir en los que come una vez al día) . Desde que se encuentra en terapia con un psiquiatra, y sigue un tratamiento estricto con medicamentos, ha mejorado aunque el médico le ha dejado en claro que sólo puede sobrellevar los síntomas pero difícilmente los transtornos se irán por completo.
