Corpse Infested
Corpse Husband & Reader (Gender Neutral)
Warnings: Mentions of dysfunctional family, Family problems, Swearing
Genre: Humor, Comfort, Platonic fluff, RPF (Real Person Fic)
Summary: When your friend disappears for a long time, seemingly having lost interest in what fueled the most passionate fire in their life, you cannot not worry about them. Even if you wanna give them space, you will reach out, you will offer your help. You will tell them they always have you to rely on and talk to.
Requested by Anon. Hi dear! I’m really sorry it’s taken me so long to complete and post your request, but here it finally is! Hope you come across it and if you do I hope you enjoy the read! Love, Vy ❤
For me, it’s never hard to find things to do. I’ve constantly got things on my mind and tasks to tend to, keeping me occupied and my mind focused at all times. I think that comes with living in a home as dysfunctional as this one. I honestly can’t recall a time when my parents got along nor can I think of a time where there was at least one second of peace while the two are both present in the house. It’s always a warzone up there. I’m saying up there because I tend to live out of the basement of their home. I know living in your parents’ basement is considered a peak loser point, or the bottom of the bottom, but you’d have to believe me when I say - I wasn’t always like this. In fact, I only recently came back to this hell-hole and boy do I regret it. I mean, it was a decision forced upon me by circumstances. Trust me, I tried every other option there was. When my dorm was to be closed down and demolished, we were given a notice to start planning our next move about a month early. You can bet I immediately started looking at places but my very tragic and miserable budget didn’t allow such a purchase. No rent was adequate for me and my near-empty wallet so my second option was moving in with my best friend who was also not in the greatest of situations but I thought I’d give that a shot too.
Spoiler alert: it didn’t work out. She lived in a tiny apartment with her boyfriend and his best friend at the time, so four people in one apartment was a nightmare. Still a lesser nightmare than this one but a nightmare nonetheless. Some unwanted and downright traumatizing events chased me out of that place after barely managing to pack my stuff. Therefore, finding myself on the streets again, I had no other option other than the obvious and least liked one: moving back in with my parents.
Making money during my first year of college hasn’t been easy. Working two jobs at once and also streaming video games on the side was what my time was filled with all throughout the first semester but then this damn pandemic started and now ruined everything for me. I had things going for me, I was slowly getting my life together and now it has all fallen apart yet again. The places I worked at closed down due to quarantine and I haven’t been able to steam, not only cause I’d be the victim of my parents’ comments but also cause my terrible home life would be exposed to all my fans and viewers. It’s not like I could cancel out the commotion going on right above my head, it’s a livestream and this house’s walls are cardboard thin meaning all the arguing I hear almost 24/7 will serve as background noise for my streams.
I haven’t reached out to my friends or fans to inform them of this which I feel slightly guilty about but I’m really not looking forward to having to lie to them, just as much as I’m not looking forward to having to tell them the truth so instead I’ve picked silence which is probably either worrying them or driving them insane. Either way, I’ll make my comeback soon.
Well....not very soon by the looks of it...
I have to gather the money, then I have to find a place, then comes the packing, moving out of here, moving into the new place...oh God, there’s so much to it that I don’t even wanna think about. Just that thought that I’ll be inactive for that long makes my stomach turn. Streaming’s where I’ve been channeling all my negative emotions, turning them into something positive and entertaining with the help of my friends.
Speaking of my friends, I should probably put emphasis on how amazing they are. Basically the older siblings I’ve always wished I had. I’m the baby of the group, the eighteen year old freshman in college, powering through life the best they can cause they are constantly getting tripped up by inconvenient occurrences such as this one for example. I tend to have the gang poke fun at me quite frequently - all lighthearted and with good intentions obviously - but they are also the ones to get super defensive if anyone gets the balls to talk shit about me. They’d never allow me to be the victim of any smack talk or online rumors and ‘cancel culture’ or whatever the hell people will come up with to leave others restless and wondering if they did something shady a decade ago. Well, to be fair, I didn’t even know about the concept of social media a decade ago and I’ve never been one to post much but I still have a protection squad in case anyone decides to come after me.
Little do they know the people I need protecting from are the very people that are supposed to protect me - my parents. Luckily, they don’t venture into to basement very often if at all and I have my own exit to the outside world so I don’t have to run into them unless I absolutely have to. The only time I emerge to the surface of the house - aka the ground floor - I do so to leave my share of rent money on the dining table and I usually do it when they aren’t home or when they’re asleep - that happens often with how many bottles they each knock back on the daily.
*sigh*...at least I don’t have to talk to them, right?
Anyhow, remember how I mentioned I always have things to do? Well, right now I’ve tasked myself with rifling through the large boxes containing random stuff I found in one of the basements down here to see if there’s anything I could possibly sell online. For starters, I’d like to hope there aren’t any severed body parts in here because this was one shady-ass basement before I moved in and un-creeped it a bit so I wouldn’t have to become an insomniac due to the paranoia of there being a homeless person down here with me or some paranormal entity. Regardless, old basements tend to be, apart from haunted, also filled with junk no one would find valuable despite it actually being worth something after all. That’s basically what I’m hoping to find at the moment.
As I dig through the contents of the first box, the YouTube playlist I have put on on my phone cuts off causing me to furrow my brows in confusion for a second before my ringtone pierces the silence the lack of music created.
I quickly mute the ringing and take a look at the Caller ID to see a name I never thought would pop up on my screen as an incoming call - Corpse. I, as well as many of our friends, know that he’s not the biggest fan of talking to people on the phone so this is rather surprising. Still, I pick up the call in case it’s not a mistake and an odd chance that it’s somethin urgent cause Lord knows Corpse doesn’t call people willy-nilly.
Thank God it’s quiet up there at the moment.
“Hello?“ I try my best to cover up the confusion in my voice but I can only assume I didn’t do the best job considering Corpse replies with a slightly awkward chuckle.
“Surprised you, didn’t I?“ He asks, getting my cheeks to redden a bit, “You can’t blame a guy for calling after up and disappearing on him and on the whole internet. Where’ve you been?“
I open my mouth to respond when I hear the sound of glass breaking a shouted curse from upstairs.
Oh for fuck’s sake!
“Um...you know, places?“ I’m aware the answer isn’t only nonsensical but also sounds more like a question, but I can hardly focus on that right now. I’m too buys praying to an entity I don’t fully believe in for the situation above to not escalate.
“Uh, is everything ok over there? Where even are you right now?“ The teasing tone to his voice is all but gone at this point, replaced with deep concern, having obviously heard the commotion that did the exact opposite of what I prayed for - escalated.
“Y-yeah, it’s ok. It’s just another Thursday, you know.“ I attempt a small laugh but it’s blatantly miserable, “I moved back in with my parents when they announced the quarantine so that’s where I’m at now. They’re not the quietest of folks as you can tell so...“
“I FUCKING HATE YOU, YOU PIECE OF SHIT! I HOPE YOU DIE“
Oh crap, here we go.
“...So I can’t really stream a lot...or at all.“ I mutter, cringing with all my might, “But it’s only temporary! I’ll get back in the saddle as soon as I find another place to stay.“ I don’t dare mention how long that’s gonna take me, it’ll be too disappointing and depressing for the both of us. “So yeah...um...thanks for showing concern but there’s really nothing to worry about. I’m ok, everything’s ok, things are just...a bit off the rails, but I’ll fix em no problem. Like I always do!“ I attempt to sound as cheerful as possible with little success due to the overwhelming anger I feel towards those people upstairs and the gut-wrenching nostalgia for the world of streaming I can no longer be a part of because of them. Actually, I put the blame first on the pandemic and second on my parents - if it wasn’t for Covid I’d probably still be in my dorm!
“Hey...um, I think I know an affordable place where you can take up residence. Only if you want to, of course.“ He sounds hesitant but I easily overlook that as excitement bursts throughout my entire being at the sound if an escape being offered to me just like that. Had I known I’d find the solution to my problem in the very people I spent time avoiding because I was afraid of their pity, sympathy and judgement.
“Oh please, it could be a rat and roach infested shoe box and I’d go running to it. How much is rent?“ I ask through a gasp of hurried laughter that’s a result of my inability to contain said excitement. Listen, I’ve been sitting here in Hellsburg for three months now and haven’t gotten a proper shuteye during that whole period, whatever Corpse is offering has to be better than this misery.
“Rent can be discussed once you move in...“ He trails off, “And it’s not rat nor roach infested but there’s a slight issue...“
“Which is?“ I’m honestly expecting the worst: in a bad neighborhood; faulty wiring with a high chance of being electrocuted; faulty piping with a high chance of flooding; people have died there; things get randomly moved around in the middle of the night etc. However, I don’t voice any of them to avoid getting laughed at for my wild imagination.
“Well, uh, it’s corpse infested.“ He says a little awkwardly, causing me to let out an inaudible sigh.
So my ‘people have died there’ guess was on point, huh?
“People have died there, huh? Well, I can turn a blind eye to that as long as I don’t find their bodies in the closet or meet their spirits at 3AM.“ I attempt to joke, now second-guessing my eagerness to accept the offer.
Corpse bursts out laughing his ass off at my statement, getting me to furrow my eyebrows in confusion and wonder what I said was so funny - it was a poor attempt at a joke, it in no way deserves that sort of reaction, barely a chuckle in my opinion.
“You’re golden, Y/N, I swear.“ He says once he forces the laughter to subside, “I meant corpse infested as in Corpse Husband infested.“ He breaks out in another fit as my brain slowly starts connecting the dots.
Oooohh he’s asking me to go live with him
“Wait. Wait, wait, wait, hold up for a sec. Are you aware of what you’re offering me? I mean, we’ve never met IRL, you barely know me and....and for all you know I could be the serial killer in this situation!“ I have no idea why I’m pushing my luck, don’t ask. I just don’t want him to make a decision he’ll later regret, I guess. “Like, I could kill you in your sleep!“
“Would you?“ He asks confidently, silently stating he already knows the answer.
I roll my eyes, “Of course not! But...” He cuts me off.
“Great, the offer stands on my end. I’m not a noisy nor nosey roommate so I suggest you start packing. If you choose to live in that hell-hole over living with me, I’m sorry but I’ll be hella offended, just so you know.“
Corpse sounds like he’s about to hang up on me, a decision already made, so I hurry to stop him. “Wait! What about rent?”
“Fuck the rent, pack your bags.“ And just like that, despite my efforts, he hangs up on me.
Well...this is a chance of a lifetime that I know refusing would lead me to not only remain stuck here but also put me in the hugest loser bin. There’s also the fear of being Corpse’s burden which I’ll try my best not to be - I mean, I’m a super independent person and Lord knows that if this offer came any other time or from any other person, I would’ve declined asap, no discussion.
But streaming
But sleeping properly
But having a normal life again
Yeah those are most certainly the reasons I get up and go into the closet in search on my emptied suitcase. Time to fill it up again, I guess. This time with a smile on my face and excitement fueling each and every movement of mine.

JJ Maybank Must Die | Chapter 1: Popsicles
fuckboy!JJ x Reader
series masterlist
JJ Maybank is the island’s most infamous fuckboy- not that you ever cared. But when a group of tourist girls come to your surf shop crying to you about him, you agree to help them plot revenge. Sabotage is all fun and games, until you find that the playboy you were sworn to ruin happens to be falling head over heels for you.
Yes, this is based on John Tucker Must Die lol
Tumblr media
note: so this is my second JJ fic! I’m so excited for ya’ll to read it. it’ll be more light-hearted and shorter than DLS :)
“Come on... come on! This one right here let’s go!” you yelped. The crowd behind you was practically chattering on their fingernails.
The seven year old boy in the water paddled as hard as his lanky arms could take him towards the daunting wave.
“Now Gavin now! Stand up!” you shrieked as the boy hurriedly went through your instructed steps, tucking his knee, and thrusting upwards as the wave got close. Then, before he even realized, he glided rigidly along the wave as the board carried him across the water.
“Hooray! Awesome job Gavin!” The flock cheered and rushed to pat the boy on the back, his dad lifting him up in his arms.
The child scuttled towards you and threw his arms around your neck. You chuckled delightedly. “Alright everyone! That’s it for our surf lesson today. Be sure to check out the gift shop on your way out!”
You waved bye to the guests as they made way to return their boards to the hut, some handing you rolled up cash, with thankful smiles.
Once the coast was clear, you jogged back to the hut only to find Sophia, your best friend and lazy co-worker, lounging with her legs stretched on the checkout counter of the tiny surf shack. She hung a lollipop in her mouth while her eyes glued to her phone screen.
“You know, when you asked me to find you a job, I actually thought you meant one where you actually work.”
Sophia popped out the sucker and threw you a glare. “I did work! See!” she pointed her hand at the sign hanging beside the door that read ‘OBX Surf and Sports’, “I put that sign up this morning.”
“It’s crooked.”
“Bleh, bleh, bleh,” she mocked, “Nothing I ever do is good enough.” You chuckled and shook your head at her.
You peered out the giant window at the front of the store, surveying the empty beach. This was going to be the rest of your summer. At sixteen years old, you were one of the Outer Banks’ surfing all-stars and spent your days working as an instructor for the second year in a row.
Customers loved you and your ability to work with all ages rendering you the title of ‘Top Instructor’ at the shack- which didn’t mean much seeing as 90% of the employees were amateur teenagers.
Nevertheless, you were determined to keep that title, as whoever brought in the most satisfied customers by the end of the summer wins a $5,000 scholarship. And you needed that money bad in order to attend your dream school: UVA.
Along the beach, you caught a glimpse of your competition, Cody, and instinctly groaned.
On any other occasion, you really didn’t care about what people did with their lives, but something about your arrogant, sleazy, five-foot-seven co-worker grinded your gears.
He was always man-splaining to you and the other girls at the shack or kissing ass to your boss. And you knew well he was after the scholarship too- your scholarship.
“Look at him,” you sneered to Sophia as she joined you at the window to death-glare the boy. He was prepping his group on the sand for their session and looked absolutely despicable in his shorts that were inches away from exposing his little one. Emphasis on the little.
“Ugh, he’s making them do jumping jacks again,” Sophia pointed out, crinkling her nose, “God that poor old lady. Can he be any more extra?”
“I need to look away, I think I might vomit if he ever flashed me.”
Your best friend snickered at your hatred as you waxed down your board for your next lesson. “Did the group of girls check in yet?” you asked.
“Yeah, they’re sitting and waiting at Eye Sickles,” she informed, referring to the popsicle food-truck next door. “I can’t believe they really signed up for the month-long surfing program. I didn’t know people actually paid for that.”
“You’d be surprised. These tourists will buy into anything, trust me,” you said before heading out the door.
You walked up to three tourist girls lounging on the fold-out tables and chairs at the food-truck. They were mindlessly typing away on their phones, looking as bored as ever.
“Alright, do I have Annalise, Maia, and Arabella?” you announced with your work-smile on. They peered up from their phones and nodded with blank faces.
“Awesome,” you continued, trying to maintain your enthusiasm, “I’m y/n, I’ll be your instructor! I see you guys signed up for the month-long pro-boarding program which is great. Have you guys ever surfed before?”
“Nope,” a blonde girl replied, “Our parents found this online and said it’d be good for us to learn while we’re here. We’re from Richmond, Virginia.”
“Oh cool!” you jeered, the fake zeal was oozing at that point. “Well, I’m happy to be spending the summer with you guys. I’m going to have you guys grab a board and we’ll head down to the sand to go over the basic motions.”
The trio followed you into the hut and picked out a board from the beginners section. You noticed the blonde one giggling with Sophia at the stand for a bit before joining you on the sand. She had a leader-like quality to her while the two other remained quiet but friendly.
“Alright so, just for formalities, who’s who? That way I can identify you better,” you asked as the girls situated their boards along the shore.
Not shockingly, the blonde extended her hand to you first. “I’m Annalise,” she greeted a little sullenly. You shrugged off her attitude, attributing it to her being a bougie tourist.
“I’m Maia,” a tall, jet-black haired girl said next. She had a very athletic body and came off as the quietest one of the group.
“And I’m Arabella,” the last one chimed in. Her hair was a fiery orange and she had piercings run along her ears and nose.
“Alright cool! So now, we’ll start off with the movements you’ll go through once you hit the water. You want to start off flat on your stomach and paddle towards the waves. Make sure you have full control of your board at all times,” you began as the girls copied your demonstration on their own boards.
You heard sniffles come from the group, but ignored it to continue your spiel. You could hardly read any of their expressions through their giant, bug-eyed sunglasses.
Just as you were about to explain the importance of balance- you favorite part of the lesson- you saw the blonde sit up on her board in irritation and start sobbing through her glasses.
“Annalise come on, it’s not worth it,” the tall one, Maia, reasoned as the Annalise shook her head furiously.
“I can’t do this right now,” she cried before bolting back towards the shack.
You watched her in utter confusion. “Was it something I said?” you asked the remaining two.
The orange one shook her head and gave you a sincere look through her glasses. “No, she’s just really upset about this guy,” she turned to her friend, “Come on, let’s go check on her.”
At that point, you had no choice but to follow the group towards their distressed friend. This was definitely coming out of their session time.
The three of you plowed up the sand to find the girl, Annalise, sprawled on Sophia’s shoulder at the tables as she cooed her like a baby. You wanted to cringe.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. He’s a piece of shit anyways! Trust me, he did the same to me too,” your best friend comforted and petted the stranger’s yellow hair.
“What’s going on?” you questioned at the scene. Sophia glanced up at you with a pleading look.
“It’s JJ.”
Oh brother. This dude again. JJ Maybank was the Outer Bank’s most infamous fuck boy. Him and his friends threw parties all the time at the Boneyard- ones you have yet to attend- and he effortlessly earned his reputation by sleeping with any girl he could get his grubby hands on.
By this point, he’s broken half the hearts on the island with girls moaning and groaning about him left and right- Sophia included. You remembered her wailing the day he ghosted her after they did the nasty. It wasn’t a pretty day... or week for the matter.
You didn’t understand what the big deal was with the guy. You’d gone to school with him since the first grade and he’d always been that guy that rolls in the mud during playtime in elementary school. And he still was that guy to this day.
You heard all the cringey lines he’d pull on girls at school that would get them swooning and you swore he was running a voodoo business because no one in their right mind could fall for that.
But everyone did. Except for you.
“What? Did he ghost you too?” you gestured towards the wrecked weeping girl.
She nodded and blew her boogers into the tissues Sophia brought out.
“I-I, well, we met him at a party this weekend and he took me to this little hideout on the beach. He told me that he never met anyone like me before and said all this other shit. Then we had sex there, which I never do in public, and he said he couldn’t wait to see me again. And he never called me after!”
Though you thought her public display was a little too... public, you did feel sorry for her. The guy was a tool, and these tourist girls, especially, didn’t know any better.
“Don’t worry,” Sophia assured, resting a hand atop hers, “he did it to me and everyone at school. We all fell for the trap.”
Maia and Arabella joined the sitting girls in a piled group hug as the ones in the center sputtered in tears together. You couldn’t bear to watch, but for Sophia, you awkwardly joined in anyways.
The rest of the surfing session consisted of the girls pulling up their own chairs and  bad-mouthing JJ, along with all other men, as everyone licked their popsicles.
You sucked on your mango one, not minding the little break as it was the easiest $150 you ever made. The girls weren’t as hoity-toity as you first thought. They apologized for wasting your time and promised to leave five-star reviews about you. Even better.
As evening rolled in, you found yourself laughing and joking around with your new-found friends. They told you wild stories of their private school shenanigans back in Richmond while you and Sophia filled them in on life at the OBX.
“This day was incredible,” Annalise beamed, dazed after her fourth popsicle. “Can’t believe we all bonded like this over a guy,” she chuckled, “I just... gah, I wish we could get him back somehow. Make him feel how we feel!”
“You should,” you agreed, “Why don’t one of you guys go to the parties and try to seduce him and then leave him hanging? The trick with men is to withhold sex from them and they’ll be helpless.”
Everyone’s face lit up in excitement at your idea. “No, totally! We could definitely do that!” Sophia exclaimed with wide eyes. “So who will it be? Who’s our hamster?”
“Not me,” Maia objected almost instantly, “I have a boyfriend back home so no seducing will be done on my part.”
“Arabella then,” Annalise suggested, nudging the girl beside her.
“Alright...” she agreed, fiddling with the string of her bathing suit, “I guess I could take one for the team.”
“There we go!” you cheered, “You just march straight into that party, grind on him a bit to leave him hanging, then proceed to embarrass the shit out of him! Problem solved!”

“Kozume, are you even listening to me?” Akaashi sighs and closes his laptop. He was only halfway through his scheduled agenda for today’s meeting, but there was no point in continuing if his client was just going to ignore him for the whole hour.
“I am, I am,” Kenma mumbled, eyes fixated on something that was hidden under the table.
“What did I just talk about for the last ten minutes then?” Akaashi challenged.
“We’re changing my video uploads from Tuesdays to Fridays, and Black Sheep wants to do a sponsorship with me in my next stream,” Kenma replies without skipping a beat. His feline eyes are still glued to his phone, unblinking, as his fingers tapped away at one of his games.
Akaashi sighed once more. “And you’re fine with the upcoming changes and sponsorship then?”
Kenma nodded. “Akaashi. I trust you to make the best decisions for me.” He finally slipped his phone back into his pocket and tilted his head to look his friend in the eye. “I didn’t hire you as my manager for no reason.”
“If I knew working with you was going to be this difficult, I would’ve stuck with my previous job.” Akaashi flashed the male a wry smile.
“Hey, if you want to hand in your resignation letter right now and go back to your previous life of disgusting convenience store food and cigarettes for lunch, by all means.” Kenma smirked and extended a hand out, palm up as if waiting for an actual resignation letter to manifest from Akaashi.
Akaashi cleared his throat and reopened his laptop. “Moving on...”
Tumblr media
“TOORU!!!” Y/N screamed at the top of her lungs as soon as she spotted the fashion editor from across the courtyard. Lunchers nearby stared at the loud girl before turning their heads to look at the unfortunate boy on the receiving end of the shout.
Oikawa contemplated ignoring his friend and instead considered turning around to head back inside TK Mag’s office building. He would rather eat with his annoying suck-up intern than his embarrassing friend. Unfortunately for him, said friend yelled his name once more and beckoned for him to come over.
Oikawa’s eye twitched and he reluctantly trudged across the courtyard and towards Y/N.
“Don’t be so embarrassing, Y/N-chan,” Oikawa grumbled as he took a seat across from her.
“Oh please, as if that airplane tie you’re wearing isn’t embarrassing,” Y/N shot back, eyes flickering up once at the cartoon-printed tie before back down at her laptop screen.
“They’re UFOs, for your information,” Oikawa mumbled through gritted teeth, “and besides, Ayame-chan said it was cute, so your opinion is invalid and unnecessary.”
“Enough about your tie. I’m about to literally combust from nerves.”
“What is it this time?” Oikawa rolled his eyes and lazily sipped his latte.
“I’m about to schedule my first blog post for tomorrow.” At this, Oikawa’s eyes widened and he straightened up in his seat.
“Who’s the unlucky victim?” Oikawa scooted closer to Y/N, their elbows touching as he leaned in to read off her screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You know, for someone who looks like she’s about to shit her pants from nerves, you wouldn’t be able to tell with Cherry’s online persona,” Oikawa hummed and nonchalantly commented.
Y/N smacked his shoulder once in response.
“That’s the whole point, Oinkawa. No one’s supposed to know that Cherry is me, and that I am Cherry.” Y/N sighed and brought the tip of her thumb to her mouth. She nibbled on her fingernail nervously as she clicked on the draft of her blog post. “Well? Can you tell who it is?”
“I would say Miya Atsumu, the MSBY setter, but I wouldn’t exactly call him beautiful, Y/N-chan.”
“It’s not Miya Atsumu and you take that back! He is beautiful, but that’s besides the point; it’s Kozume Kenma, the professional gaming streamer and content creator.”
“Well that’s subjective,” Oikawa sneered. Iwaizumi once had the opportunity to interview Miya Atsumu for an editorial, and Oikawa had tagged along much to Iwaizumi’s headache. Having played as a setter as well during his time in high school, Oikawa had some differences with Atsumu’s playing style, and the two did not get along too well that day.
“How’d you even get this dirt on Kozume Kenma anyways?” Oikawa made a face and smacked Y/N’s hand away from her mouth. “That’s disgusting, Y/N-chan, and you’re getting nail polish in your teeth.”
“I stalked his fan accounts on Twitter. It’s amazing what you can find with a little digging, to be honest.” Y/N scanned her draft. “And a little scary,” she added as an afterthought.
“Ugh, kami, I can’t do this, Tooru!” Y/N whined and shut her laptop, taking her head into her hands. “This is the most disgusting line of work I’ve ever imagined myself having to do.”
“You know no one is forcing you to take this promotion, right?” Oikawa leaned back and crossed his arms across his chest.
“This is Y/N and TK Mag we’re talking about here.” Oikawa and Y/N turned around at the new voice. “If you were over $100k in student debt and a well-known and well-paying company offered you a promotion, wouldn’t you take it?” Iwaizumi and Hanamaki walked up to the duo and took a seat at their table.
“You’re literally talking about the girl who’s dream is to become a princess and find a rich prince charming to take care of her,” Hanamaki added.
“Hey!” Y/N interjected, but was ignored.
“But she also didn’t graduate as a journalist with an emphasis in fashion from UTokyo to become a gossip blogger,” Oikawa pointed out.
“Okay can we not talk about me like I’m not here?” Y/N pouted. “And you all have valid points.”
She sighed. This was a tough decision. Y/N does have a lot of student debt to pay off, and the pay raise that came with the promotion was definitely enticing and worth drooling over. On the other hand, Oikawa was right in which Y/N didn’t graduate with over $100k in debt with a journalism degree to become a gossip blogger. But one thing that Y/N also had to think about was that this promotion would’ve been her opportunity to become a full-time employee at TK Mag, her dream company. And then there was Hanamaki, who was there just to out her (slightly) embarrassing and (very much so) unrealistic dream.
“Why’d you even take the promotion anyways? You could’ve just stayed an intern and wait for staff writer positions to open up.”
Tumblr media
Y/N knocked twice before entering the Editor in Chief’s private office. “Good afternoon, Chief! You wanted to see me?”
“Oh yes, Y/N, come in. Please, take a seat while I finish up this email.”
Y/N grinned and skipped over to the loveseat that occupied the middle of the office. She crossed her legs and smoothed her blouse. Y/N was buzzing, and it wasn’t just because of the three cups of coffee she had stomached throughout the day.
“Judging by how you can’t sit still, I’m assuming you know why I called you in here.”
“Oh, sorry. I’ve had one too many cups of coffee today,” Y/N responded sheepishly. “But I hope you’re gonna tell me what I think it is you’re gonna tell me.”
It was hard for Y/N to keep the smile on her face from growing as she watched her Chief pull out a folder and place it down on the coffee table in front of her. The smile on Y/N’s face grew bigger as the Chief pulled out a piece of paper and slid it towards her. It was exactly what Y/N was expecting: a contract for a full-time position at the company.
“Congratulations, Y/N. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed these past few months you’ve been at TK Mag as an intern, and we’d like to extend our offer to you as a full-time employee.”
“Yes, yes, yes! I accept!” Y/N squealed and eagerly looked through her tote bag for a pen. “I don’t even care what staff writer position it’s for -- although my first choice would be for the fashion department since I did go to school for fashion journalism -- but I’m so excited!!” Y/N was already picturing herself attending fashion shows with Oikawa.
“Y/N, wait. Before you sign, I just want you to know that the full-time position isn’t to become a staff writer for the fashion department.”
“Huh?” Y/N stopped riffling through her bag. “...What is it for then?”
“TK Mag is going to try something new. We’re going to branch out to a sister site and run a gossip blog called The Cherry on Top. I want you to take on the alias as Cherry and run the blog.”
“Gossip... blog...? The Cherry on Top? Me?” Y/N could hardly comprehend what the Chief was saying.
“Will you accept? I know it’s a brand new position and something we’ve never done before at TK Mag, but we have high hopes and I know you’ll do well as one of my best employees.”
“With all due respect, Chief, I’m a fashion writer. I write about fashion week and the latest trends in the fashion industry. I don’t write gossip nor do I want to slander anyone. It’s not my cup of tea.” Y/N narrowed her eyes. She couldn’t believe the Chief wanted her to do such dirty work.
“I had a feeling this might be the case.” The Chief sighed, and all signs of pleasantries disappeared. “Listen, Y/N, if you don’t want this promotion, I’ll give it to the next intern in line. But just know that if you don’t take this position, you’re going to have to clear out your desk by end of day and find a new company to work for.”
Y/N was in disbelief. She couldn’t believe her career was getting threatened. Her grip on her pen tightened as she stared at the document in front of her. The words Full-time Employee Contract for: Cherry, The Cherry on Top seemed to glare at her.
“There will also be a hefty raise included in your promotion,” the Chief added after witnessing Y/N’s hesitation. “You did just graduate from UTokyo, did you not? Surely you don’t want to be riddled with student debt.”
Y/N was torn. What was she going to do? TK Mag was her dream company, and if she refused the promotion and got let go, she would drown in debt. Surely being a gossip blogger wouldn’t be too bad, right?
Y/N swallowed her pride and uncapped her pen. With a quick flourish, she signed her signature on the contract and forlornly shook hands with a now-smiling Chief.
I hope I didn’t make the wrong decision...
“You made the right decision, Y/N. Welcome to the team.”
Tumblr media
Y/N gulped. She couldn’t tell her friends that her job security had been threatened if she didn’t take the promotion.
“Well maybe it was time for me to grow up. I don’t need a rich prince charming to take care of me. I’ll take care of myself with my new pay raise.” Y/N grimaced on the inside. She hoped that was convincing, but judging by the silent stares she received from her three male friends, even she knew they weren’t too believing of her.
“Anyways, Cherry promised her 500 followers the first post will be up tomorrow, and she isn’t one to break promises, so... let’s queue this baby up.” With a swift click of her trackpad, Y/N’s first gossip post as Cherry was scheduled.
Unbeknownst to Y/N, Oikawa, Iwaizumi, and Hanamaki shared a look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kenma was unfazed. He really was. Even when his Twitter notifications blew up with mentions, he simply ignored them. It wasn’t like he paid much attention to them in the first place anyways. And when he was in the middle of streaming and his Twitch chat started spamming the link to the blog post, he simply told his mods to delete comments that had anything to do with it.
Kenma was unfazed. Simply because it just wasn’t true. And even though the readers didn’t know if it was true or not and the article was currently trending in the Esports vertical and being repurposed for other articles, Kenma knew it wasn’t true and therefore did not care.
Except Akaashi was getting on his nerves as his manager continued to try to bring it up in conversations.
“Kozume, you have to say something.”
“Why?” Kenma sighed. He really didn’t see the need to say anything. It wasn’t like this was the first time Kenma had been the subject of a rumor. It was all going to die down soon anyways.
“It’s been three days already and people are still commenting on it. Your fans are upset, and I think you owe it to them to explain your side.”
“It’s not a big deal, Akaashi. If fans are that upset about a rumor of me boosting League accounts as a side business, they probably should get a job and hop off Twitter once in a while,” Kenma mumbled and continued to click away on his game controller.
“Well it’s not just your fans that are upset, Kozume. Your sponsorship with Black Sheep is also on rocks right now because of the rumor.”
At that, Kenma’s fingers slowed, and he watched his character get headshot by the enemy on the TV.
“You’re telling me that they believe some stupid rumor that was probably written by a jealous 13-year-old?” Kenma scowled, and Akaashi finally felt his friend getting serious about the situation. It wasn’t often that Kenma showed his emotions other than his usual aloof self, but when his projects started to get affected, Kenma took things really serious.
“It’s not that they believe it, but they haven’t been as responsive to my emails as they usually are ever since the post was published. It seems they might be taking your silence as the truth.”
Kenma sighed and tossed his controller to the side. He wasn’t in the mood to game anymore. Instead, he stood up and trekked down the hallway towards his game room. Looks like he had a fire to diffuse if he wanted to keep his sponsorship alive.

end notes:
→ student debt and job security is no joke 😢
→ mattsun did not join y/n, oikawa, iwa-chan, and hanamaki during lunch because he was away on a photoshoot assignment
→ kenma did boost league accounts back when he was still in college and barely starting out as a streamer... except the accounts he boosted was kuroo’s and hinata’s because they wouldn’t stop begging him to until he did

Bound To Be Together - Chapter 13 (9.13)
McDanno, M, A03 A continuous story of Season 9 codas exploring the bond between Steve and Danny as they grow even closer.
Chapter 13 (9.13)
Steve’s still feeling a little shocky when he thinks about his team’s latest close call, even though Tani and Junior assure him that the only lasting effect from their sixteen hours in the hyperbaric chamber was an intense case of boredom.  Adam takes the day off, but the kids do seem fine, so much so that by the end of the day they’re demanding that everyone go out for drinks to celebrate a job well done.
Steve, however, is exhausted, and he still has a ton of paperwork to do.  He tells the team he’ll meet up with them in a little while, and gives himself a ten minute break to put his head down on his desk before he gets back to work.  It’s not something he’s accustomed to doing, but there’s no question that his crazy free dive yesterday has taken it out of him.
And if he’s honest with himself, he’s also avoiding Danny.  Danny’s given him time to figure his shit out, but in typical McGarrett fashion when it comes to relationships, he’s still procrastinating.  Although he thinks he made a little progress yesterday, finally asking Danny what was up with him and Rachel.  If only they had had a slightly longer walk before they found the body, he might have gotten more information.  But he’s pretty sure Danny told him there’s nothing going on.
Then Steve had to go and pull another of what Danny will likely call one of his stunts.  Danny had hardly protested; Steve can’t decide if Danny refrained because he’s just gotten tired of arguing with him, or if he realized that if Steve did nothing three of their closest friends (and all the scientists trapped on the underwater lab) would be dead.  The look on Danny’s face when he pulled Steve back up out of the water, the way Danny looked at him when Steve sat gasping for air… it was hard to decipher.
Danny wasn’t angry at Steve, not like he was when Steve jumped into the stupid sand processing machine to catch a perp.  But he was holding something back.  Danny’s trying to give Steve his space, Steve thinks, and it turns out Steve doesn’t much like it.
What he wants is his old Danny back, the one that says whatever’s on his mind, that will rant and wave his hands around, that isn’t afraid to raise his voice and argue with Steve. But Steve’s gone and made everything between them awkward, and Steve’s too much of a chicken to fix it.
Even their time with Grace is weird these days.  Danny’s overprotective of her, with good reason, but while he’s happy to let Steve see her as well, he didn’t exactly invite him over for breakfast.  Danny wouldn’t even make Steve any pancakes.  He didn’t even laugh when Steve joked about it.
Steve finally forces himself to pick his head up off his desk and stop sulking.  He’s got to actually do the paperwork he talked about, or when Monday comes everyone will know he was making excuses.
An hour or so has gone by when his phone rings.  The governor wants a full down-run of the Nostromo situation, and then somehow the conversation turns to the governor’s friend’s nephew who wants to go to West Point and is looking for some advice on the application process and how to get a congressional nomination.  Steve doesn’t have a lot of recent information on the subject, but he’s got some friends that might be able to help, and he goes down a bit of a rabbit hole online to find the governor some information that might be useful.
It’s a good way to procrastinate some more.  With any luck, the team will finish up soon and he’ll be off the hook, free to go home and fall into bed without anyone having to witness how freaking tired he is.
When he gets off with the governor, he turns back to his case report, and he’s just finessing the language about Junior’s clever use of the rescue beacon (which probably saved his life) when his phone rings again.
“You’re not so old that you completely ignore all texts, are you?  Because I refuse to believe it, but I can be convinced.”  It’s Tani, sounding peeved.  There’s music in the background, and he can hear Junior enthusiastically butchering the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody.
“Officer Rey, how can I help you?”  Steve says.
“We’re still at Rumfire, bossman, waiting for you.”
Steve glances at this watch. It’s after ten.  Oops.  “Um, Tani, I’m not sure-”
“Don’t say it.  Do not say it.  Just get your ass over here.”
 “Really, I’m pretty tired-”
There’s a deep sigh over the phone.  “You really haven’t read any of my texts tonight, have you?”
He hasn’t.  And he has the feeling it’s too late.  “I’ve been on the phone with the governor.”  This is at least true, although definitely not the only reason he’s still at headquarters.
“I’m sure that’s terribly important.  But your BFF is important too, right?”
Steve’s stomach lurches. “What’s wrong with Danny?”
Tani snorts.  “At least that got your attention.  He’s five sheets to the wind, as they probably say in the Navy, or at least they did back in the olden days.  And he won’t leave until you get here.”
 “What do you mean?”
“He keeps saying he’s waiting for you.  ‘I’m waiting for that dumbass,’ are actually the words Danny used.  Multiple times.  Emphasis on ‘dumbass.’”
 Shit.  “But he’s okay?”
Tani sighs, and mutters something that sounds very much like “you’re both dumbasses,” but Steve doesn’t call her on it.
“Yes, Danny’s fine. But he’s totally wasted, and I think you should come get him.”
Steve gets to the bar as quickly as he can, and tries to not wonder too much about what Danny really means when he says he’s “waiting” for Steve.  He’s pretty sure it’s not just Danny wanting Steve to come have mai tai’s (although they do make killer mai tai’s at Rumfire).
The traffic is ridiculous in Waikiki, and the crowds of people along Kalakaua Avenue do nothing for Steve’s nerves.  He finally makes it through the Sheraton and into the bar.
The place is packed, as it usually is on a Friday night, and it takes him a while to push through the sweaty crowds to find his team.  Junior and Lou are sitting at a table, the remains of what look like several orders of kalua pork nachos and shrimp bao in front of them.  Steve nods hello and grabs a handful of chip crumbs.  He scans the room quickly.  “Where’s everyone else?”
Junior points towards the DJ, and Steve squints his eyes.  He really doesn’t want to get even closer to the pounding music, but it seems like he doesn’t have much choice.
“Danny’s been asking about you,” Lou says, his face neutral, and Steve wants to kick himself.  Did he really think he could ignore Danny and his team wouldn’t notice?
“I know,” Steve says. “I’ll go find him.”
“Don’t forget to put on your dancing shoes,” Lou says, smirking, and Steve just sighs.
When he finds Tani and Danny in the crowd, he can’t help but smile.  They’re dancing to that dumb song every beach-side resort in Oahu loves to play, Danny twirling Tani around and then jumping up and down as they cheer “cake by the ocean!”
Danny spots Steve and his eyes light up.  He dances over, arms waving over his head like he’s at a middle school party.  He sings in Steve’s face, “You’re a real life fantasy, a real life fantasy!”
“Hey, Danno,” Steve says. Danny’s dress shirt is rumpled, and his eyes are wide and bright.
“Dance with me, Steve,” Danny says, shimmying up close and then grabbing Tani by the arm to bring her into the circle.  “Dance with us.”
He can hardly say no, even though he can’t rival Danny and Tani’s excitement.  Steve grins at the two of them, and does his best to play along, letting the music take over and move his body.
Steve’s not sure how Danny knows all the words to the song.  He blames Grace.  But it’s surely not Grace’s fault that Danny keeps throwing flirty looks at Steve while he twists and turns, all head tilts and shoulder rolls.  “Let’s lose our minds and go fucking crazy, ah ya ya ya, I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean.”
Finally the song ends, and Steve swings an arm over Danny’s shoulders.  He’s sweaty and warm, and his thin shirt is damp.  Steve would really like to just hug him tight and breathe him in, but he can’t.  Not here, not now.
“Time to go, partner,” Steve says, guiding Danny back towards their table.  Thankfully Lou and Junior are getting up, and Tani’s putting on her jacket, clearly indicating that the party is over.
“I waited for you,” Danny says plaintively, and Steve allows himself a little half-hug with the arm he’s still got wrapped around Danny.
“I know, buddy.  I’ll drive you home.”
Danny seems pleased with this, and practically giggles as Steve shuffles him out of the bar.  He’s really drunk, drunker than Steve has seen him in a long time, and is leaning heavily on Steve.
Steve exchanges a look with Junior that he hopes communicates something along the lines of “how did you let this happen,” but Junior doesn’t seem to quite get it. Getting wasted in a very public, very tourist friendly bar isn’t really the right image for Five-0, and somebody should have done something about it… Steve pushes away the thought that the somebody in question was supposed to be him, and concentrates on making sure Danny doesn’t mow over any pedestrians as they make their way down the street.
Steve is hoping Danny will sober up a little by the time they get back to his house, but he still seems pretty out of it as they go inside.
“You should go to sleep, Danny,” Steve says, as Danny pauses in the foyer.  “I’ll get you some water.  Sleep it off, you’ll feel better in the morning.”
Danny gives Steve a challenging look and shakes his head.  “I’m not tired.  Let’s watch a movie.”
 “I don’t feel like a movie, and it’s late.”
Danny pulls away from Steve and flops down on the couch, patting the spot next to him.  “I’m not asking you to hike the Himalayas, Steve. Just watch a movie with me.”  It’s the least you can do, Danny seems to be saying, after blowing me off tonight.
“Fine.”  Steve gets them each a glass of water first, and then joins Danny on the couch.  Danny’s got the remote in his hands, but he hasn’t even turned on the television.
Steve’s about to take the remote and try to move things along, maybe rewatch a nice familiar Marvel movie,  when suddenly he’s got a lap full of drunk Danny.
“I’m tired of waiting, Steve,” Danny says.  He’s straddling Steve, pushing him back against the couch.  His hand rove over Steve’s chest and shoulders, making his skin tingle.  “I’m tired of playing ball.”
Danny leans in and kisses Steve, hard and desperate.  Steve can taste the liquor on his breath, and he moans as Danny thrusts firmly against his groin.
“Danny,” Steve says, his mind spinning.  “Danny, no…”
Danny sits up, still pressing down on Steve’s rapidly growing erection.  “No, what, exactly?”  Suddenly Danny doesn’t seem quite as drunk.  “No to us?  I asked you to think about it, Steve, I didn’t think you’d need to take a sabbatical to figure it out.”
“No to…” Steve struggles to find a way to do this without pissing Danny off permanently.  “You’re drunk.”
“And you know how I feel -  I’m not the one with a consent issue,” Danny replies bitingly.  “You’re sober as fuck.  So what’s it gonna be?”
“Danny…”  Steve wants to tell Danny how he feels, he really does, but the words just won’t come.
Danny sighs, the fight going out of him.  “Give me something to work with here, Steve.  I miss you.  And I was so goddamned scared yesterday.  What you did… not many people can do that.  You’re not a kid, you don’t train for that now.  There was a good possibility you weren’t going to make it up, not alive. I couldn’t stop you, but, dammit, I was so scared.  When you finally broke the surface,” Danny swallows hard, and meets Steve’s eyes.  “I love you.  I don’t want to wait any longer to do something about it.”
Danny’s voice cracks, and Steve can’t take it anymore. He lunges up and catches Danny’s mouth in a kiss, hands clutching at his shoulders.  Danny gets a hand in Steve’s hair and tugs, and then they’re frantically shedding their clothes and scrambling for a more comfortable position on the couch.
“I wanna blow you,” Danny says, scooting down and nipping at Steve’s hip.  “Let me blow you.”
Steve mumbles out his assent and then Danny’s mouth is on him, hot and wet and if he was a little younger, he’d be coming already.  But Danny slows down and takes his time, sucking the tip and then sinking down, doing something amazing with his tongue and then rising up and doing it over and over again.
“Fuck, Danny,” Steve groans, as the pressure intensifies.  “Danny, I’m…”
Danny just looks up at him, eyes wide and mouth stretched, and Steve finally comes in a burst of pleasure that nearly whites him out.  When he recovers, he flips them over, nearly knocking them both to the floor, and gets his hand around Danny’s throbbing cock.  With his other hand he works over Danny’s nipples, kissing up and down his neck and collarbone.
Danny is letting loose a stream of profanities, his hands squeezing Steve’s ass as he writhes underneath him, hips thrusting and stuttering as he gets close.  When he finally comes with a low moan, he goes almost limp, except for one arm still wrapped tightly around Steve’s shoulders.
Steve finally extracts himself and goes to the bathroom, returning with a wet towel to clean them up. But Danny is fast asleep, and no amount of cajoling will get him to move off the couch.  Steve covers him with a blanket and plants himself in the armchair for the night, not wanting to leave Danny alone.
He realizes, as he sits and waits for exhaustion to overtake him, that he’s still not really sure what’s up with Danny and Rachel.  Steve’s pretty sure that in this case, actions speak louder than words.  He just hopes he hasn’t made a mistake.

Trainer to the Pros Reveals His Secret, Step-by-Step Blueprint Guaranteed to Make You Fitter, Stronger, and Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible – in the Next 60 Days… Or Your Money Back.
Here’s Your Only Opportunity To Have Me Be Your Personal Coach and Take You Through My Four Phase Program, Leading You Step-By-Step To More Strength, Better Performance and a Leaner, More Athletic Body Than You’ve Ever Had Before!
Dear Friend,
If you would like to discover the fastest and easiest way to gain strength, achieve better performance and a finally have the lean, athletic body you’ve always wanted, then this will be the most important message you ever read.
After personally coaching thousands of people ranging from elite level professional athletes to guys just trying to lose a few pounds and feel better and achieving incredible results across the board then studying the impact of every single training variable, I’ve developed a breakthrough solution and put it into a format that YOU can use to guarantee the same type of incredible results yourself.
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not.
Just look at what these real world case studies who have used the Show and Go System have to say
“There are plenty of programs out there offering variety. Unfortunately, few of them offer genuine results to match the various exercises they prescribe. What impresses me most about Eric’s programming is that he manages to improve the quality of the body as a whole by using exercises that not only work but are also stimulating and enjoyable to do.
I improved my three rep max on the deadlift by 110 pounds in four months – 425 to 535. My close grip bench press went from 275 x 3 to 300 x 4 in the same period of time. But this was not a narrow powerlifting specialization program. While I was improving my lifts, I was also sprinting, jumping, improving my flexibility, losing body fat, lifting pain free for the first time in a decade and, most importantly, enjoying my training again.
I am happy to recommend Eric’s programs with only one caveat: don’t try them unless you’re looking for the best performance of your life.”

“I was initially a little skeptical at how well a 16-week online strength and conditioning program could bring significant gains in my own strength. Having trained consistently for the past 6- 7 years, and being in this industry myself as an Exercise Physiologist for 10 years, I know the benefits that an individualized program can bring especially in terms of strength and muscular gains. To say I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement!
I really enjoyed how the program periodized through different strength qualities from phase to phase each phase building on the last. The way the program worked in lower volume weeks with higher volume weeks within each phase was ingenious, and something that I have incorporated a lot more into my own programming. A very original part of the program that I felt I benefited from tremendously was the inclusion of specific dynamic movement patterns and static stretches within the micro-cycles and each specific phase. I feel as though I now have a lot more joint freedom through my pelvis, lumbar spine and knees because of this.
In just 4 months of training I managed to lose 1% of bodyfat (8.8% to 7.8%), while maintaining my lean body mass. I increased my deadlift 1RM by 66 pounds! My parallel box squat increased by 33 pounds! And all my other lifts increased also (chin up +33 pounds, bench press +5.5 pounds).
In today’s heavily populated field of strength coaches, fitness experts and corrective exercise gurus, I believe Eric Cressey stands out from the pack. He brings a unique approach of mixing scientific research and in-the-trenches practical experience to bring a coach I truly admire.
Thanks, Eric!”
Marty Skele Queensland, Australia
“Eric, you are the best! I recently completed your Show and Go Program and am thrilled with my results. My bench has gone up by 50 pounds, my squat has increased by 80 pounds, and my deadlift has increased by 90 pounds while dropping a ton of body fat! In addition to these strength gains, I have noticed marked improvements in my mobility and general athletic performance. I wholeheartedly recommend Show and Go to anyone looking for a bigger, leaner, stronger, and more efficient body! You will not be disappointed.”
Mike Mepham Atlanta, Georgia
“Show and Go delivers the complete strength and conditioning package. No stone is left unturned in this multi-faceted approach to training and as a result I’m bigger, faster, stronger AND leaner than ever before. As usual, Cressey pays particular attention to soft tissue work and joint mobility, which has left me with far greater range of motion as an added bonus, plus I’m injury free after 16 weeks of hard work with no signs of over training. As a fitness professional, this program provided me with an education as well as a great training system with plenty of movements I haven’t used before. Bring on the next book!
Marc Ramis United Kingdom
Bench Press – 105kg increased to 120kg (not quite a personal best, but after a shoulder injury last year, I’m very pleased to even be benching again!)
Chin Up 3 Rep Max – Bodyweight plus 15kg increased to Bodyweight plus 35kg (really happy, this is my best ever with perfect form too)
Broad Jump – 97.5 inches increased to 107.5 inches (personal best)
I had been following Eric’s work for about a year when I got an email asking for guinea pigs for a program he was testing out. I jumped at the opportunity, having had great success with Maximum Strength. The program was tough but enjoyable. There was a big emphasis on mobility and flexibility, with many different fillers throughout each day. I felt this helped me out a lot as I had been having issues with my rectus femoris. There was a lot of heavy lifting and I chose to do the two sprint days. I was surprised when my vertical jumped from 32 to 37 inches, because I had barely done any jumping throughout 4 months. Not only did my vertical increase, but I went from finishing near the end of the pack on our 110 yard races, to finishing first every time. As far as number go, my deadlift increased 30lbs, front squat was up 25lbs, bench press went up 10lbs and 3RM chin up went up 25lbs. I also gained 5lbs, which was surprising as I hadn’t gained any weight for several months. For a non-individualized program, I think Eric has done a fantastic job at targeting most people’s weaknesses and has created a program you can really work hard on. If you are thinking about working with Eric and the people at Cressey Performance, I would highly recommend it!

At the beginning of this program, I was very out of balance, where my lower body was much stronger than my upper body and I will give Eric the credit for balancing me out. I found incredible strength gains in my chest, back and shoulders and was still gaining at the end of my 4 months. Working with Eric I knew the mobility and stability throughout my body would improve in the areas it needed to; I have never had any shoulder issues, but now my shoulders have never felt healthier, more stable or stronger. By the time I got to the third phase, I found my 1RM for the bench press climbed almost 30 lbs and I was working with weight I have never worked with before. Beginning the program I could not do any pull-ups .. I finished with being able to do 3 complete reps for 4 sets … that’s success to me! This program gave my body the perfect base to go in any training direction afterward.
Kelsey Pettengill Saco, ME
“Dear Eric,
I just completed your 4 month “Guinea Pig” program, and I am extremely pleased with the results. In addition to helping me add some muscle mass and strength, the program dramatically improved the way I move and the way I feel.
As a thirty year old ex-athlete now working a desk job, I had been valiantly fighting to keep my body in playing shape. Before I began your program, I had been doing all I could to train the “right” way – foam rolling, deadlifting, dynamic warm-ups, but I never felt like I got it right. For instance, despite hardly ever bench pressing, my right shoulder bothered me in certain everyday situations, and, if I tried to do a heavy press, it would bother me for days. I had all but figured I would have to give up all horizontal pressing going forward. Further still, I was starting to see the effects of age on the flag football field and had noticed that my body was getting progressively tighter no matter what I tried to do.
After four months on your program, I can honestly say that all of the above issues and some other nagging ones have largely gone away. By the time of my final tests, my shoulder felt great, better than it ever has. I guess I never realized how all that consistent rowing and pulling could benefit my shoulders. The program was worth the entire price for that benefit alone. Furthermore, the way you organized and targeted the foam rolling and mobility drills finally loosened me up. After this program, I feel far more fluid. I can overhead squat with ease and my hips have never felt more loose and mobile. It has also given me back some of the athleticism I thought I had lost – I feel years younger on the football field.
Overall, I can’t say enough good things about the program and would highly recommend it to anyone. I learned to appreciate the right way to foam roll (every day) and the right types of dynamic warm-ups to do, how to organize a strength training program, and even how to balance conditioning and strength training.”

Deadlift 405 to 435 Bench Press 225×3 (with slight pain) to 225×6 (with NO pain) Standing Long Jump 7’10” to 8’5”
Chin ups with additional 25 lbs: 5 reps to 12 reps Body weight 194 to 197 Body fat % 11.3% to 10.1%
“My fiance, Mathew, and I completed Eric’s 16 week strength program in June. We were both extremely pleased with our results. I increased my squat by 55lb, my deadlift by 33lb, my 3-rep maximum chin-up by 12lb, my bench press by 8lb and my standing jump by 7.5”- great results in just 16 weeks.
“This is the first intensive strength program I have undertaken. The program will produce amazing results if you are completely committed, determined and motivated for the 16 weeks. I even managed to complete my training with international travel and demanding work pressures. Mathew was an ongoing source of support and this program highlighted the importance and value of a committed and motivated training partner.
“As a female who up to three years ago focused their entire fitness regime on cardio, I highly recommend Eric’s program and his strength and conditioning expertise for maximizing strength gains and sculpting a lean physique.”
Cassandra Lees Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
“In the four months I have been on this program, I have gotten really freaking strong. The numbers I have been putting up are not earth shattering but the quality of my movement and my strength carryover into sport has been dramatic. Even without the improved physical qualities the program would have been worth doing just to feel what is like to be human again without a knee that hates me and a shoulder that feels like it belongs to a 90 year old.”
“I made a commitment to complete this program despite having to train for a couple of fights. At times it was tough, but at the end I have become a much bigger, scarier and more powerful fighter.”
Paul McVeigh Professional MMA Fighter Glasgow, Scotland
“I’m a 27 year old attorney who spends too much time at his desk and not enough in the gym. I was looking to improve my mobility and fitness while maintaining my strength while on Eric’s new program. Instead, I improved my mobility, flexibility, fitness and strength in addition to improving my body composition.
“On Eric’s program all of my tests went through the roof. My 3RM on chin ups shot up 35 pounds, all while I was losing 13 pounds. I also improved my 400 meter time by ten seconds and also improved my vertical jump by five inches. After finishing the program I was simply amazed at the progress I’d made in only four months. I give this program my highest recommendation. ”

“There are countless programs that offer gains in size, strength, appearance, etc. Many of them are effective in these areas. Cressey wants you to get bigger and stronger, but most importantly he wants your body to respond, without pain, to whatever it is you ask it to do. He wants you to run, jump, lift and play better; and he wants you to do it injury-free. Eric Cressey has done something very special with this program. Over the course of 16 weeks, I not only made gains in strength, but I felt my posture improve; I felt aches and pains in my back and shoulders disappear; I noticed mobility in my hips and lower back improve; and I felt more balanced. I felt compelled to return to sports I had previously abandoned. This program has opened doors for me physically that I didn’t think possible. This is not just a weight lifting program. This is a guideline for long term health, and an invitation to keep your body moving efficiently for life.”
Pete Garivaltis Burlington, VT
“The Show and Go program is one of the top on the market today! It is definitely a full program and not just a written workout. This will take care of your soft tissue work, warm-up, activation, strength training, mobility work, and metabolic work for the whole week. It is also flexible and can adapt to your certain goals, something that many other programs lack.
“This program will definitely increase your absolute strength but does so much more. You will be feel better, move better and become more athletic after following this 16 week program. It does a great job of creating a balanced body and finally enables you to throw some heavy weights around! Eric Cressey is one of the smartest men in the fitness industry and following this program is the next best thing to working out with him. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to increase their strength, move better and feel better in their everyday lives!”
Kane Sivesind Madison, WI
“For any trainer or coach who is serious about strength and conditioning and helping people achieve a higher level of health and fitness, I highly recommend Eric Cressey’s Show and Go program. It truly gives you great insight and knowledge to fully appreciate what ‘true’ program design is for any population. Most programs today are outdated and produce little to no results. By doing this program, you go through an entire physical transformation, and it also pushes you mentally, which ultimately takes you along a great journey through proven scientific strength training at its best! It has made me a better athlete and has been a significant help into TRULY learning how to design SPECIFIC Strength & Conditioning Program to Achieve SPECIFIC results for all of my clients both athlete and non-athlete!”

“Having read Eric’s work in the past, I was confident that his new program would be great. To say that I was impressed with the results would be an understatement. I added 30 pounds to my deadlift, 30 pounds to my bench and 40 pounds to my front squat in only 4 months. I also managed to gain five pounds while increasing my vertical jump by two inches. I am constantly impressed by the quality of Eric’s work, and this program was no exception.”
Troy Appleton Victoria, B.C., Canada
“This program was some of the best training I have ever done. I could not believe the improvements I was making not only in the gym, but in mobility, posture, and overall strength. Eric’s methods are straightforward and amazingly effective. For the “everyman” like myself, I would challenge anyone to put solid effort into this program and not come away impressed with the results.”
Josh Taylor Portland, ME
“I have just completed Eric Cressey’s latest 16-week program with fantastic results. Being a Chiropractor and also a gym rat, this program satisfied everything I look to accomplish with my training. Over the 16 weeks, I experienced noticeable increases in strength and power while dropping weight and body fat. The approach of integrating strength training with corrective exercise strategies is perfect whether you’re an athlete or someone who is looking to tone up and improve your overall health. Eric has mastered the balance of achieving fitness goals while addressing clinical needs and addressing functional limitations. The variety in the program will satisfy even the most advanced lifter, while giving the beginner or intermediate lifter a strong foundation of how to develop a solid exercise program and create a strong healthy body.”
Dr. Jason Lemieux Oakville, Ontario, Canada
“I have nothing but glowing praise for Eric Cressey’s program. I have been a recreational lifter for many years. Eric’s program has helped me overcome some sticking points in mobility and strength that I wasn’t able to address on my own. Even though I am relatively strong, I have never been able to chin. Now, I can do several sets of chins with various grips.
“Because of all the unilateral work that Eric recommended in this program, my basic lifts (deadlift, squat, bench) have gone up significantly.
“My favorite lift, the deadlift, has gone from 225 to 280 and that’s at my body weight of 130 lbs.
“I was always a good conventional squatter, either free squat or box squat, but was never comfortable with the front squat. This program provided me with the tools to finally perform a decent front squat.
“I could go and on and on and tell you about all the other lifts and how they improved. Suffice it to say – €¦THIS PROGRAM WORKS! Thanks Eric!”

“I’ve always been a fan of Eric’s work, but training on the Show and Go program was beyond what I had imagined, and I had very high expectations. I’ve been lifting weights for 18 years (and hold a number of fitness certifications) and I’ve made gains like I never have before. I’ve made more gains in the past 16 weeks than in years. I’m the strongest I’ve ever been and have hit personal records on all my lifts, adding over 50 pounds to my bench 60 pounds to my deadlift. Honestly, I was shocked to see the weight I was lifting go up consistently on a weekly basis the training and results I got really busted limited ideas I had of what was possible. It’s the best programming I’ve come across and fun too. I can say with conviction this is the leading edge of weight training, and if you follow the program you will get results.”
Fred Macri Lenox, MA
“When I first started looking over Eric’s new program I knew that it was the real deal and that I was in for some serious gains. Over the past 16 weeks I have gotten stronger, bigger and improved my mobility all while staying completely injury-free. As an aspiring powerlifter, I’m always concerned with not only performing better in competition, but also staying athletic and healthy in my everyday life. Eric has managed to synthesize these goals into a fun, yet challenging routine that even the most advanced lifter can benefit from. After increasing my squat, bench press, deadlift and overall athletic performance, I am sold on this method and think anyone who is serious about training should give it a shot. They will not be disappointed.”
Chris Gramuglia Eastchester, NY
“I have done many strength training programs the past several years. Eric’s program is by far superior to any other training program that I’ve ever done. Throughout his program I had less joint pain, I got stronger, and I became very lean. After four months on the program I was in the best shape that I ever have been in my life. It’s a wonderful feeling not to have as much joint pain after my training sessions. Thank you so much Eric. Your program has changed my whole outlook on training!”
John Madrigal Anniston, AL
“From the very first workout, it is easy to see how well put together this program is. 16 weeks later, and WOW. It was challenging. It was time efficient. And it was just awesome to do. Muscle imbalances were fixed. Mobility was enhanced. Strength greatly increased across the board. I was leaner, yet heavier. My posture and other weak points improved as a result of the terrific programming of mobility and soft tissue work. I was more explosive on the basketball court. I felt better just doing everyday tasks and how much simpler they felt. I worked hard, and you need to. The workouts are terrific, yet intense. Whether you can make it to the weight room or gym 3 days or 4 days a week, Eric has you covered. Any goal can be achieved by following this program, whether it is to bump up your numbers on any of the lifts, get lean, add slabs of muscle, enhance athletic abilities, or just to generally feel better in day to day tasks, any and all of these goals are possible with this program Eric lays out. I achieved four of those goals, just to prove it! I loved it and I know everyone who follows this program through to the end will too!!”
Matt Stephen Newcastle, NSW, Australia
With Eric Cressey’s Show and Go program, you can rest assured that you are getting nothing but the “Goods.” Programs and principles are clearly explained and outlined, and they include everything from soft-tissue work, to active warm-ups, to ideas on conditioning and of course, strength. This latest program of Eric’s is no exception. With it, over the 16-week period, all my numbers have gone up and more importantly, even at the tender age of 37, I’ve managed to stay injury free and to continue performing on the basketball court. What’s more for me, it’s not simply a “bulking up” program; I managed to benefit from significant gains in strength-to-body weight ratio, the true difference-maker on the court and field.
Eric Lapine Saint-Lambert, Quebec
“Before starting Eric’s program, I thought I worked hard at the gym. I was wrong. The Show and Go program took my intensity to another level. If you are ready to bust your ass, this program will more than payback your efforts. After 16 weeks I gained nearly 16 pounds, improving all my major lifts along with my mobility and posture. My legs grew so fast I had to buy new work clothes. But the best thing I can say about Eric’s program is that it left me wanting more. Despite some workouts feeling like a war of attrition, I always woke up the next day excited to get back in the gym, to put more weight on the bar, and hit more personal bests. I strongly recommend this product to anyone looking to find better results in the gym.”

“The program was a success for me because it balanced strength, mobility, and conditioning. The workouts were constructed to train multiple energy systems without conflicting with one another. As my bench improved, my shoulder pain subsided; as my deadlift numbers went up, my lower back felt better and better. During the last four weeks, I was able to continue strength gains while incorporating a fat loss plan, not an easy task without a well constructed program. All told, my biggest success was an increase in my bench from 225 to 265, with a simultaneous decrease in body fat from 17% to 12%.”
Lucas Serwinski Norwich, CT
“I can’t say enough to describe the positive experiences I had with the Show and Go Program. Obviously, I gained significant strength across the board and got leaner, which in itself is rewarding, but the amazing part to me is that I did so as a 40 year old female with an office job and not as a younger elite athlete with access to more training resources. And my progressions weren’t solely strength oriented as I also made improvements in my flexibility and range of motion in spite of having past issues in these areas. With the enhanced strength and flexibility, I’m now enjoying the best fitness, strength and health I’ve had at any point in my life. And, it’s incredibly empowering to be a strong woman and reach strength levels I never thought were possible for me. There is no question in my mind that I got more than a 16 week training manual from the Show and Go Program. Rather, this program provided a road map for me to be able to continue to optimize my strength and overall health because I experienced the power of mixing of mobility exercises along with innovative strength gaining techniques.”
Rebecca Wilson Fayetteville, Arkansas
“Before starting the Show and Go program, I had spent 15 years lifting on a fairly regular basis but my progress had stalled a decade ago. After starting Cressey’s program I realized I had never in my life really warmed up properly until now. The mobility drills are what really has made the difference for me. I added 100 pounds to my deadlift and more important than that, my shoulders aren’t hurting me and my posture has dramatically improved. Anyone who’s been doing the three sets of eight routine for the last ten years without much progress should really try the Show and Go program.”

did anyone want an author’s commentary for my fic “The List”?
well, here’s one anyway. MacGyver and FL comments below.
(notes short enough to be readable. I did try keeping notes for Fulgent Engineering, but those are scarily long now.)
The thought process was simple enough: I'd already written "A little honest extortion", where Jack figures out he's heading for the Neath, and I'd done the introduction to "Vertere", where he meets up with MacGyver. All I had to do here was get from one to the other.
I've always been very fond of "Brian's Return," and Jack is a materialist; the concept meshed very nicely with his character. He doesn't know much about the Neath, isn't specifically aware that he's going to be trapped in a whole different century, but he does know that what he brings along might be the last he'll ever see of Surface culture. With the additional complication of making purchases for a friend/fellow spy/something-or-other who he rightly suspects to have left his old life behind with nothing more than a couple of good knives and an extra shirt.
(I have not yet settled on a Correspondence shorthand for "Fulgent Engineering", but a sigil for "the understood loss; and a price beyond" is a strong candidate. The state of the Tireless Mechanic's Surface jacket in "Alike in Dignity" was a precisely considered detail.)
SAKs
Well, yeah. The folks on MacGyver Online, anti-slash though they may be, have done a terrific job of cataloguing minor details in the series; I'd have had to find another and less specific way of writing this scene if they hadn't listed all the SAK statistics for the Informed Clerk to spout off.
Jack's got the gant-coloured knife. Which is initially mistaken for a Spartan (because that's what they used while shooting "Serenity"), but as per the Parabola sequences in "Fulgent Engineering", is actually a genuine 19th century article. Or a dreamed-up version of the real thing, at least. Wonder what happens when Mac- or his Reflection- gets it back.
When Jack started thinking of people in Adjective-Noun formation...I don't know. I suspect, though, that it's a little more common in the Fallen London universe than just in the Neath.
Camping Gear
It just tickled me to suggest that Jack's reaction to safety gear is to say "Safety? Who needs safety?" I'm tempted to write the Doomed Camping Trip in which all of Mac's improvisations happen entirely because Jack's a cheapskate and everything he buys is broken.
Guitar
Over in Tanista's Neath stories, Penny Parker is playing Lois Lane on "The New Adventures of Lois and Clark". This is a sound suggestion and I went with it.
Jack's taste in bad newspapers, aside from setting up the later punchline, is probably something that'll be relevant either in "Deep Romantic" or "Vertere" in good time. Even if it's only as a joke.
Watches
Pete doesn't know nearly as much as he could about the Neath (and almost none of what he does know made it to MacGyver; Pete, much to his regret, was hoping it'd be a case of 'least said, soonest mended'). But he is, at minimum, aware that there's an Underzee.
Which is more that Jack did, but he can take a hint.
Tape deck
Heh. I went to a lot of trouble chewing over which one would be best.
Jack is being an optimistic idiot, of course; you can't recharge the Sony WM-F107 without several hours of sunlight. Of course, you can also carry sunlight in a box in the Neath, so he's lucked out there. (It also has a battery hookup, which Mac will no doubt be able to sort out.)
Making Jack a draft dodger seemed an obvious opposition, once I'd had the idea to bring in Toberman (he's from the MacGyver episode "The Spoilers": seemed the most likely candidate among Mac's friends to give a crafting hobby to.) And it seems to work pretty well for his character anyway.
Cassettes
And the Grateful Dead backstory let me set up Jack as someone who's been involved in bootlegs for ages (the tales of bootlegger Grateful Dead fans are something epic).
I've listened to all of these musicians at one point or another while writing "Ecstasy". Helps me get into the mood for writing these two. The epic-length "Brothers in Arms" tape will be immediately understandable to anyone who has ever seen that episode of Miami Vice with Bruce in it.
Clothing
More borrows from the official forums again. Plus a chance to follow up on Cynthia (several stories). I like Cynthia.
Another fic concept for some later date, Mac going on the run. I know I already did that a bit with my non-Ecstasy story "here is a memory", but that was more an exercise in how far it's possible to push my protagonist before he ceases to be recognisable.
Come to think of it, perhaps I could combine it with the Camping Trip From Hell as per above.
Guitar redux
Penny writes herself. I just put it to keyboard.
Books
So. Desert Island Discs stipulation: no one gets to pick the Bible or Shakespeare for their one book, because that'd be dull.
Plus my awareness of Tolstoy's opinion of the Bard (as mentioned in a very entertaining essay by Orwell), plus the idea of Murdoc implementing a plan that would have terrified Mac but hardly fazes Jack...the chain of thought here was pretty smooth.
Chow
For the record: I am completely unable to imagine Jack as a Seeker in any way, shape, or form. Besides, the rhythm of the fic worked better when I underplayed something.
Also, there's some character development happening. Not that Jack's exactly pleased about this.
Gemstones
Nikki Carpenter's adventure as a gemstone expert was from her first story, "Fire and Ice". Easy thought process. And she gets to point out all the practical concerns Jack ought to be considering, which I'm not on the grounds of being too dull to include. Writing is also about knowing what *not* to write.
Plane
Jack Dalton flies planes. This is as integral to the character as engineering for the Innocent Spy. Therefore: ouch.
He has an...unusual relationship with Kate (see "Rock the Cradle" for the details on this- even if you're a Failbetter fan and ignoring all these MacGyver continuity comments, watch it anyway, because it's hilarious. Lots of banter, the Innocent Spy commits atrocities with duck tape. And despite the plot hinging on Jack's heterosexual shagging, it also manages to be very gay.
Like, very gay.)
Duck tape
Natural bookend, if you're starting with the SAKs.
Another scene inspired by the "Deep Romantic" plotting with Tanista; Jack has a mum, we had to dispose of the mum to get him down to the Neath, how shall we get rid of her? Witness protection! (Consistent with the MacGyver episode that she was in: "Ma Dalton," funnily enough).
I think this scene was about the right note of sentiment and a mutual acknowledgement that, deep down, both of them are pretty selfish so-and-sos who just aren't interested in the other's life. Like mother, like son. Also, Nikki's pretty smart.
Spent ages agonising over the ending. I may yet rewrite it. But the quiet shift of emphasis, from the stuff he's been accumulating all story to who he's expecting to find?
I confess, I am rather proud of that part...

Hey, it's Martin from Mr. Web Capitalist. On my blog, I'm doing interviews with online entrepreneurs.Today I want to share an interview with Chris Makara - an entrepreneur, online marketer and the founder of the social marketing tool called Bulkly.Could you describe what do you do and how you earn your living?I make a living through multiple streams of income.I have a day job where I utilize my skillset and then evenings and weekends I do freelance work and work on my own side projects. How did you get started?I first got started online back in 2003 while I was in college.A friend and I wanted to create an e-commerce site where we dropshipped bowling supplies. The reason for bowling supplies is that we were both a part of our college bowling team and it is a sport I had been doing since I was about 8 years old.So we had a pretty good knowledge of the products and industry – just no idea about anything regarding a website.I was tasked with building out the site, marketing it, etc. while my friend handled fulfillment and customer service.Since everything was new to me (and not many resources available like there are today), I self-taught myself everything through trial and error. This included everything from design, coding, SEO, SEM, analytics and more. You can learn a bit more about me here.Do you still own the bowling website? What happened to it?I still own the domain but am not currently doing anything with it.After I graduated college (back in 2004) and got a real job, I just did not have the time for it.The other competitors started undercutting each other which shrank the profit margins. Which made it not really worth our time. So, we were actually in talks to sell our customer base to a competitor.Unfortunately, the web server crashed and we were not able to restore a backup. Keep in mind, this was back when backups were massive and manual and hardly ever went right. It was an expensive lesson, to say the least. But luckily backups and restoration are easier than ever today 🙂What’s your typical workday like?My typical workday starts with me waking up before the wife and kids and it’s usually when I answer emails from clients, questions from my developers, customer service tasks, social media monitoring, etc. Then I’ll head off to my day job where I do focus mainly on data and analytics, SEO, SEM, and some social strategy mixed in.After the kids are asleep and I’ve had some time to relax, I’ll spend time on circling back on similar tasks that I first started with in the morning. What makes You the most money? My day job definitely pays the bills, but my client work gives me some extra funds to do whatever with it that I would like.Usually, it funds side projects like Bulkly or allows me to reinvest in other partnerships and streams of income.Tell me more about Bulkly. How did you come up with the idea? Why would anyone use it?Bulkly was actually an idea that evolved from me needing to be more efficient.A lot of my clients create evergreen content. And I would schedule this content on their social media channels with Buffer. But I got tired of manually adding the same updates into Buffer every week.So I created Bulkly that would allow me to easily recycle my social media updates on Buffer. It takes just a few minutes to set up and I will always have content dripped into my Buffer account automatically. It’s the perfect solution for anyone who wants to leverage their evergreen content on social media. Is Bulkly a profitable business? Have you made back your investment?Bulkly is slightly profitable. But honestly, I have not promoted it like I should. That is another goal of mine this year – to increase the userbase of Bulkly.Do you have a large team working in Bulkly?Going back to my previous answer, it is a small team – just me. And my developer.I’ve toyed around with bringing someone in to help with the promotion of it since most of my time is spent on client work. What is your Top source of traffic?Organic search is definitely my top source of traffic.Care to tell some less-known SEO secrets for our readers to implement?I don’t really think there are any big secrets at this point. It’s really about getting your on-page SEO in order and building relevant links.I will say that content audits are often overlooked and can provide some easy wins. How many websites do you operate?Over a given month, I have my hands in 15-20 websites/marketing projects. How to keep track of everything? To stay on top of things, I rely heavily on Trello and Skype. What do you like about online marketing? What I like most is that there is always something new to learn. I’ve been doing this for 15+ years and I still find ways to learn new things.Digital marketing is always changing and that keeps things interesting for me. If I’m not learning something new, I feel like I am wasting my time.Which blogs do you read?I don’t read as many blogs as I used to because I feel that the majority of them are too high level and rarely bring anything new to the table. The ones I do enjoy reading are Brian Dean, Robbie Richards, and Bryan Harris. Everything they publish has something actionable in it.The AHREF’s blog is also a good one as well.Which books about business would you recommend to our readers?I recently read Lost and Founder by Rand Fishkin.I’ve been following Rand/Moz for years, so I knew it was one I would be reading when it came out. I really enjoyed the behind the curtain view he provided in his book.I think it is a must for any startup/entrepreneur.Are there any must-have tools or resources you recommend for internet marketers?I use quite a few tools. Among my “must-haves” are AHREFs, Bulkly, MalCare, Lumen5, and Mailshake. What’s the hardest thing about being an entrepreneur? One of the hardest things is the balance of time.Back when I first started, I wasn’t married or have any kids. Over the years, my situation has changed. Before, I could easily work on my projects as much as I wanted to. However, now I have to find a balance between my family and work. With a full-time job, it can become quite the juggling act. But I think I am much more focused and efficient with my time which allows me to get more done, quicker.Which is your favorite moment in your business?Great question. For me, it’s when you get validation on what you have been working on makes a difference in someone’s life. What are your goals for 2019?One of my main goals this year is to put more of an emphasis on chatbot services for my clients. I feel that the time is right to focus on this channel. It’s still in its early stages and has not yet hit critical mass. Not only will it help my clients better their business, it will be an additional revenue stream for me.Have you ever been offered to speak at online marketing conferences? Any memorable moments?Chris Makara at a Social Media BreakfastI’m actually more of an introvert, so I don’t actively seek out speaking opportunities. I’m definitely more comfortable speaking one on one or in small groups. However, I have previously spoken at the Houston Social Media Breakfast. It was a great experience to talk about using social media automation like a human with about 100 people. The event took place shortly after I launched Bulkly, so it was a good opportunity to get the word out and feedback on it while answering various questions about automation and measuring data. What does the Internet Lifestyle mean to you?To me, an internet lifestyle is really just being able to do what you love online.Do you like data and analytics? There’s plenty for you to do.Interested in design, CRO, and user behavior?Yep, plenty of opportunity for you in those areas.Like writing?Ranking websites?Pretty much anything involving digital marketing? Then there’s plenty of opportunities and ways to have your own internet lifestyle.Just don’t get all caught up in the get rich quick schemes or those who claim to have it all figured out.Truth is no one has it all figured out. And for those who do become successful, there’s no doubt that they had the struggle to get to where they are.But in the end, if you enjoy the journey then the internet lifestyle can be rewarding both professionally and monetarily. What advice would you give to people just starting out with an online business? There’s definitely a lot of advice to give. I think among the most important things are to stay focused. You’ll run into a lot of distractions and unknowns – don’t chase all the shiny objects.Create a goal and determine what you will need to do in order to get there. Don’t work on something that is not going to contribute you reaching your goal. But in order to be focused, you have to get started. So I would say to just get started would be the most important piece of advice…Because if you don’t get started, then you won’t ever make any progress. If you liked this interview with Chris Makara, then read my other interviews with entrepreneurs and online marketers. Check out the full interview with photos and videos.Got a cool online business or an interesting success story? PM me!

Factors to Outsource to a Virtual Assistant
Utilizing a virtual assistant can shave hrs out of your workweek, but learning which tasks to delegate is often tricky, no matter if you are starting or expanding a company. Most virtual assistants are contract or freelance workers who do their jobs from dwelling and emphasis on administrative tasks which might be similar to these of an executive assistant or secretary. Web sites that specialize in contract employees, such as odesk.com and elance.com, have 1000's of listings for virtual assistants.
With all the number of virtual assistants are increasing, their experience now runs the gamut, building it less complicated to seek out somebody who fits your organization, says Jaleh Bisharat, vice president of advertising and marketing at oDesk.com, and that is primarily based in Redwood City, Calif. In 2012, oDesk had 25,000 postings for virtual assistant jobs, in contrast to about 2,500 in 2008.
Entrepreneurs can use virtual assistants for every thing from making vendor or customer service calls to sending out thank you cards to prospective clientele. It really is critical to build believe in, just while you would which has a long lasting worker. "They become a crew member who just transpires to deliver the results remotely," Bisharat says. Not certain exactly where to start?
How do I become a virtual assistant? I worked being a virtual assistant and I've employed my personal virtual assistants too. Here are my suggestions to acquire started.
1. Make your mind up in the event you will operate as an independent contractor or an employee Independent contractors are self-employed and run their very own businesses. On the other hand, some VAs prefer to function for an established firm that matches VAs and clients.
Ways to Come to be A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT Up to date February one, 2018
Various years ago I wished to improve our family’s earnings, but I did not need a ordinary job. I had responsibilities I couldn’t straight away drop or hand off to somebody else so flexibility, making my own hrs and functioning from residence were critical. Also, I didn’t have a large budget for new equipment or elaborate instruction. I became a virtual assistant. It turned out for being the perfect runway to get a full-time online profession.
Ways to turned out to be a virtual assistant.
Disclosure: Some links below are my affiliate hyperlinks, meaning, at no added value to you, I may well earn a commission when you click by means of and produce a purchase. Study my full disclosure policy here.
What's a virtual assistant? A virtual assistant (VA) presents companies to persons, organizations or providers, nevertheless they do the job on the internet as an alternative to going into an office.
It’s an outstanding work-at-home chance and one particular from the most cost-effective options of making money internet because it is basically a matter of charging other individuals for any ability you already have.
Currently being a VA (virtual assistant) is terrific given that you just charge for any talent you previously have. CLICK TO TWEET What do virtual assistants do? The internet has created it probable to undertake a wide selection of issues remotely, or, “virtually.”
Lots of people hear “virtual assistance” and feel only of administrative duties like typing and answering emails. However the variety of tasks VAs do is considerably more broad.
There are numerous solutions you could deliver pretty much. Here is often a partial record:
Email management Calendar management Travel arrangement Writing Ghostwriting Graphic layout / creation Net design / advancement Studying Editing Tutoring Audio / video / photograph editing Consulting / counseling / coaching Bookkeeping Copywriting Marketing and advertising / Promotion Social media management Task management Customer support Transcription Programming App development Information entry Visioneering (people today send you photos of their room/house/yard and also you offer solutions for improvement) Anything at all else you'll be able to do without having possessing to be within the identical physical location as your consumer How much do virtual assistants make? It relies on your skill level along with the type of service you deliver.
Tasks like information entry may possibly fetch $10-$15 an hour, but if you've got a specialized skill or expertise, you could make $100 dollars an hour or far more.
Most VAs set their own costs, so you are in manage. This is a further cause lots of people are making the leap into virtual help.
How do I turn out to be a virtual assistant? I worked being a virtual assistant and I have employed my very own virtual assistants also. Here are my recommendations to obtain started.
1. Choose should you will operate as an independent contractor or an employee Independent contractors are self-employed and run their very own organisations. On the other hand, some VAs desire to function for an established organization that matches VAs and customers.
Independent contractor vs. employee Not absolutely sure regardless of whether you desire to get the job done for yourself or possibly a enterprise? Here would be the benefits and drawbacks for every:
Pros of currently being an independent contractor
You do the job for by yourself, which means you contact all of the shots. You set your very own pricing, you choose your own consumers, that you are your own personal boss. Your function hours are set fully by you. Any dollars you make goes directly to you, as an alternative to staying funneled as a result of your employer who keeps a percentage. Cons of remaining an independent contractor
Working and being accountable for your very own home business. Like developing any business enterprise, this selection takes a whole lot of time, power and hustle. The duty rests completely on your shoulders. Acquiring your own personal clients. This may be tricky, specifically with the beginning prior to deciding to have delighted clientele who can propose your solutions. Right here while in the U.S., you are accountable to withhold and pay your own personal revenue taxes, like Social Protection, Medicare, etc. Pros of being an employee
You might be only accountable for your perform with the agreed upon times. It’s a terrific scenario for all those who want to clock in and clock out devoid of acquiring to worry about the enterprise otherwise. Consumers are often matched with you by your employer, or, present a platform in which it is simple to connect with new customers. No want to locate all of your clients by yourself. You have a built-in support process. Numerous suppliers deliver sources, tools, local community and help for his or her VAs. Cons of being an employee
You will need to solution to an employer. This could possibly indicate you've got guidelines to stick to. You might have less versatile hrs depending around the customers your employer matches you with. Your pay is often established to suit your needs. You might choose becoming an independent contractor if:
You like networking and hustle. You are an entrepreneur at heart. You like obtaining complete control. You dislike being an worker. You do not need to have lots of earnings ideal away (while in the event it requires a while to create up your client checklist). You might want getting an employee if:
You desire remaining in a position to clock in and clock out. You’d rather another person obtain clientele and inform you when and wherever to demonstrate up. You like clear boundaries so function does not spill more than into other parts of your lifestyle. You will need income right away and don’t have or power to “pound the pavement” or building a home business. What about commencing at a VA firm then moving out on my personal? This can be achievable, but it may be tricky. You will find legal and ethical problems to take into consideration.
Most VA providers involve clauses inside their legal contracts prohibiting you from taking their consumers with you when you determine to depart. By way of example, you'll should agree to not get hold of any of their clients to get a specified period of time. Quite simply, should you do the job for a VA organization and therefore are matched which has a client, you can not depart that business and encourage your consumer to hire you by yourself.
However, if you ever determine to depart a company and start your very own VA business as an independent contractor, and locate your personal clientele, this could possibly be an alternative.
two. Obtain a webpage That is necessary for independent contractors. Consumers desire to get able to search out you, so a presence to the net is important. It offers you a even more specialist look, an opportunity to highlight several of your competencies and an opportunity to clarify your process.
Use my step-by-step guide to setup a website, or a site if you would like to regularly add posts. (Note the publish title is “How to start out a Blog” but the identical steps get the job done to start out a web site with this 1 minor tweak).
Independent contractors: a must-have An employed VA: optional (but not a terrible concept in case you desire to venture out by yourself later on)
Be valuable When you interact on social media and network with other VAs, be quite mindful to not encounter as spammy. Mass emails or “cold” emails to people who do not know you will be hardly ever thriving.
I comprehend the will need for making an revenue, but consider the time for you to offer beneficial facts to begin with. This might can be found in the form of certainly valuable articles or blog posts written on your website, or it may can be found in the kind of genuinely helpful (and respectful) advice to a person you meet on the web.
In my case, I casually supplied some suggestions to a friend on Twitter and it turned out for being the get started of the functioning connection that lasted rather a while. Wherever can I deliver the results like a VA? If doing work as an independent contractor and discovering your individual consumers just isn't your thing, take into consideration doing work for a firm that matches VAs with clients. For some VAs, the aid in discovering clientele is really worth sharing the earnings.
Businesses to take into consideration are Belay Options (formerly eaHelp) and Upwork. I’ve personally employed VAs from both. Belay is known as a far more elite support with quite thorough employing and matching processes. Upwork is actually a larger platform and simpler to join, but you will be competing with extra VAs to the very same jobs.
Some other firms to take into consideration are Priority VA or Fancy Hands. I don’t have individual expertise with either, but have heard very good matters about them.

Brad Josse Nelson, New Zealand
Marco Walker-Ng
Mike Marino Washington, D.C.
Trip Smalley Mobile, Alabama

Mike Moore Philadelphia, PA

Nick Chertock San Francisco, CA

Brad Josse Nelson, New Zealand
Marco Walker-Ng
Mike Marino Washington, D.C.
Trip Smalley Mobile, Alabama

Mike Moore Philadelphia, PA

Nick Chertock San Francisco, CA

Brad Josse Nelson, New Zealand
Marco Walker-Ng
Mike Marino Washington, D.C.
Trip Smalley Mobile, Alabama

Mike Moore Philadelphia, PA

Nick Chertock San Francisco, CA

Brad Josse Nelson, New Zealand
Marco Walker-Ng
Mike Marino Washington, D.C.
Trip Smalley Mobile, Alabama

Mike Moore Philadelphia, PA

Nick Chertock San Francisco, CA

Brad Josse Nelson, New Zealand
Marco Walker-Ng
Mike Marino Washington, D.C.
Trip Smalley Mobile, Alabama
