I am having to deal with so much Disability Services bullshit at my university right now so. . .
Here’s a sick academia-related tip for every chronically ill person out there:
Document. Everything. For real.
• Take detailed notes during accessibility-related meetings.
• Print out any accessibility related emails (your emails you send, their emails they send) with the dates clearly specified.
• Record the accessibility meetings themselves*.
It’s also worth noting that simply choosing not to delete the emails you send may not be sufficient depending on the email provider’s policy regarding old emails and how stable your internet connection/access to internet is.
So, paper copies are best.
To keep the emails: print them out, stick them in a folder or a binder and use sticky tabs to label the general subject discussed.
Trust me. This will come in handy.
You have rights. Exercise them.
* Check on your country’s/state’s laws prior to recording others without gathering consent first. These vary by country and locality. In my state—Virginia—it’s a single-party state, so only one “party” [in my case, me] needs to know the meeting is recorded). Make sure you know the laws in your area regarding this before you record.

A Woman Unbecoming Charity Anthology
Remember last week’s donation of a guest spot on Exercise Your Rights to raise funds for The Pixel Project’s “Read For Pixels” 2023 (International Women’s Day Edition) campaign? It is gone (but there are plenty of other prizes to check out here). My prize went to Carol Gyzander. She’ll get a spot on the show, a written companion piece interview with links, an audio only podcast edition to reach…

Sorry but how do you draw Howdy and Barnaby's body (as base I mean!) I've been having difficulties drawing their bodies so I was trying to see how you deal with it as a way to understand it quite a bit or give an idea to myself on how to do it! :'), of course only if you'd be fine with it!
they're both At An Angle and a bit. Off. but!!! this doesnt need to be perfect or straight or. anything but the intended purpose. and i haven't been drawing much, so i'm a bit rusty!
Tumblr media
as with all things i just break em down into pieces to puzzle together. Howdy is very rectangular, Barn is all circles!

Saw your Mishanks bodyswap art! Very cute and fun! (Mihawk with a genuine smile on his face so so fun)
I imagine Shanks whould have trouble fighting in Mihawk's body at first since it's been years since he's had two arms
yes absolutely, i imagine that too! conversely, i think mihawk would have a little bit of trouble adjusting his balance and reach with a body missing one arm, as well. it's interesting to think about how they both would be forced to change their fighting style, and whether or not they would exchange swords.
mihawk's been seen using yoru with just one hand so he could probably pull it off with shanks's body. also interesting to think about shanks tripping up on having two arms until he naturally slips into his old fighting style again--or would he? because there's also the question of muscle memory, right? would mihawk's body automatically do things that shanks isn't predisposed to doing, and vice versa?
the other thing i find intriguing about body swapping in one piece is the question of whether or not your haki powers would switch as well. they say haki is spiritual presence, so presumably your haki switches if your spirits switch, but if it's the kind of spirit that's tethered to the presence of the body? then consider mihawk having the strongest conqueror's haki out on the blues, or shanks being able to use observation haki at mihawk's level, practically being able to predict the future--or mihawk, able to counter with shanks's haki-kill technique. food for thought!
#rei replies#one piece#mishanks body swap au#mishanks#akataka#dracule mihawk#shanks#akagami no shanks#red haired shanks#re: the genuine smiling#i also like to think shanks in mihawk's body would have this moment where he realizes his cheeks ache from all the smiling he's doing lol#bc mihawk's facial muscles arent used to doing it#and when they switch back shanks teases mihawk about it ('you exercise so many of your muscles hawky but your cheeks? they're weak!')#and he manages to get a smile out of mihawk that's mihawk's version of a genuine smile and it's softer and less wide but it's honest#and oh shanks is soooooo in love with him hahaha#BY THE WAY ALSO I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS OMG but in this body-swapped au mihawk-as-shanks would 100% shave for shanks#like hell is he gonna let shanks grow *stubble* on *his* face. dracule mihawk with STUBBLE? banish the thought!!!!!!#but shanks doesnt do it up to his standards so there's totally a scene where mihawk and shanks are body swapped in the bathroom#and mihawk is standing too close and shaving his lil pointy sideburns and mustache onto shanks's face#and shanks is having a crisis because that's his own face breathing too close and waaaay to intimately but that look of concentration#is ALL mihawk. shanks can practically his eyes--so familiar from the mirror and wrinkled with laugh lines--glow yellow with how#much mihawk looks like himself right now even in shanks's body.#it's all very strange. shanks has been attracted to mihawk for a long time but it's just blatantly unfair that the first time in YEARS#theyre this close again and it's shanks's own body that he has to look at. on the upside he supposes all he needs to do to ogle#mihawk is to look down. pros and cons pros and cons.#(mihawk isnt having a crisis. mihawk is annoyed that hia beard is easier to do in first person it is to do in the third person.#surely not having to do it reflected in a mirror should be easier and yet for some reason everything feels off! ugh.)#i digress

In retrospect I think the main reason I've always been more into media about becoming dragons/autonomous dragon society (wings of fire) yet disinterested in dragonRIDING media is because everything is built on the foundations of me being a horse girl, and so the usual fantasy knee jerk response of cool monster mount replaces horses has never resonated with me because horses are already a cool monster mount on their own in a way. Even more if you are in a fantasy setting perhaps because imagine you walk outside to regularly see dragons and direwolves and those are cool and all but what you wouldn't give to see witness the king's eastern heavenly horse being born with its infant tentacles intact

Trans women. I'm grabbing you by the shoulders and yelling. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE SKINNY TO BE FEMININE AND PRETTY AND CUTE. PLEASE STOP MAKING DIETS PART OF YOUR TRANSITION GOALS. WEIGHT LOSS IS A SCAM. I LOVE YOU. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES. YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL.
#I see so many transfems say they want to have “flat stomachs” or do diet and exercise regimes to try and get an “hourglass figure”#and it really worries me. girls you do not have to destroy yourselves to fit into unachievable beauty standards#the vast majority of cis women don't even fit those standards#and the same goes for you transmascs! I see you! I see you trying to get smaller chests and hurting yourselves with weight loss routines#and excessive workouts. it's not worth it. weight loss has OVER a 90% long-term failure rate and there's a reason for that#I assure you whatever diet you think you've found that “works for you” won't be working so well 5 years from now#and you're going to blame yourself for “slacking off”. but it's not you. it was never you. it was designed to fail.#these standards are made to hurt people and then sell them a false solution at the price of your health#I encourage you to transition if you'd like and live your best life I really do. but please please please do so SAFELY.#if weight loss is part of your transition goals please reevaluate WHY you believe thinness is necessary for achieving femininity#(or masculinity or androgyny but this stuff particularly affects women in the way it's marketed)#do research on fatphobia and the roots of weight loss culture. Learn where these ideas come from and why they're so prevalent.#It's extremely important#take care. stay safe. love you very much#trans#fat liberation#transgender#lgbt#trans rights#fat positivity#diet culture#fatphobia#transfem#trans positivity#transgirl#trans women#trans woman

Having sat with it for a few days, I think what I've realized is most curious about Tortured Poets Department is that while I would still say that Midnights is a better album- both more cohesive and more brutally honest as a work of art- Tortured Poets Department represents Swift at the most unfiltered she's ever been in her career.
Swift has reached that elusive level of success under capitalism where it is genuinely impossible for her work to be a financial failure, but more importantly she's threaded the very tricky needle of breaking free of music industry main stay control without alienating her core base, a feat only a handful of musical artists have ever pulled off. This means she has the freedom to do, essentially, whatever the hell she wants going forward and we've seen that move increasingly in her work since Folklore as she takes bigger and bigger out there swings musically. I would argue that Midnights is the culmination of this- Swift at her most brutally raw and honest with both herself and her audience, via songs like Antihero, Mastermind, and Your On Your Own Kid.
Tortured Poet's Department is interesting as an evolution, not because it has anything as raw and revelatory as Antihero, but because it is the most candid, unedited, uncurated version of Taylor Swift's art we've gotten so far. Their is no one left, really, who can try to exert control over her art in any meaningful way- and I think what that shows is fascinating. You can see so much disgust and anger: at her small town Tennessee Southern Baptist upbringing, at the hollowness and shallowness of life among the rich elite, at the media that constantly made growing up a nightmare and growing older a sin. I wouldn't say there's anything particularly barn-burning- no big declarations or powerful ballads ragging against her life. But her work feels rougher, unsanded- which for someone like Swift who is a master of curating what she wants people to see and hear from her work, of managing (and playing with) people's expectations while keeping her audience on side- is significant. Even the way she talks about her exs feels...nastier then she usually is willing to get. She's not bare knuckled swinging for anyone, but she's not toeing the line either the way she did- and that makes sense. She doesn't have too.
Even her self reflective songs- Whose Afraid of Little Old Me?, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, Down Bad- feel like they are not shying away from showing off the parts of herself she normally would censor or hold back: Messy and human and irrational. All the things a female artist has to avoid being in order to be successful in the media landscape we've had for decades.
That we read that as 'cringe' I think says more about us then it does about Swift.

If it's election day where you live (and you're able to), make sure to go vote!
You may think it feels futile or pointless, but the only votes that don't count are those that are never cast. Your voice, your opinions, and your vote do matter. Don't throw them away.
For people in the US, find the closest polling place here.
