Plain text: How to Keep Doing Descriptions (from someone who does a fuckton)

This is a list aimed mostly at helping people who already write IDs; for guides at learning how to do them yourself, check my accessibility and image description tags! I write this with close to two years of experience with IDs and chronic pain :)

Get used to writing some IDs by using both your phone and your computer, if you can! I find it easier to type long-form on my laptop, so I set up videos and long comics on my phone, which I then prop up against my laptop screen so I can easily reference the post without constantly scrolling or turning my head

I will never stop plugging onlineocr.net. I use it to ID everything from six-word tags to screenshots of long posts to even comic dialogue! On that last note, convertcase.net can convert text between all-caps, lowercase, sentence case, and title case, which is super helpful

Limit the number of drafts/posts-to-be-described you save. No, seriously. I never go above 10 undescribed drafts on any of my four blogs. It doesn’t have to be that low, but this has done wonders (italics: wonders) for my productivity and willingness to write IDs. If I ever get above that limit, even if it’s two or three more, I immediately either describe the lowest-effort post or purge some, and if I can't do that then I stop saving things to drafts no matter what. No exceptions! Sticking to this will make your life so much easier and less stressful

I make great use of voice-to-text and glide typing on my phone to save my hands some effort!

Something is always better than nothing!!! A short two-sentence or one-sentence ID is better than no ID at all. Take it easy :)

If you feel guilty about being unable to reblog amazing but undescribed art, try getting into the habit of replying to OP’s post to let them know you liked it! This makes me feel less pressured to ID absolutely everything I see

This is a sillier one, but I tag posts I describe as "described" and "described by me." When saving to drafts, I never preemptively tag with "described by me," since for some reason that always makes me feel extra pressure and extra stress. Consider doing something similar for yourself if that applies!

I frequently find myself looking at pieces of art which feel like they need to be considered for a bit before I can write an ID for them, and those usually get thrown into drafts, where the dread for writing a comprehensive ID just builds. Don’t do that! Instead, try just staying in the reblog field for a bit and focus on the most relevant aspects of the piece. Marinate on them for a little; don’t rush, but don’t spend more than a handful of seconds either. I find after that the art becomes way easier to describe than it initially seemed!

On that note, look for shortcuts that make IDs less taxing for you to do! For example, I only ever describe clothes in art if they're relevant to the piece; not doing that every time saves a lot of time and energy for me personally

Building off of that, consider excusing yourself from a particular kind of ID if you want to. Give yourself a free pass for 4chan posts, or fanart by an artist who does really good but really complex comics, whatever. Let it be someone else's responsibility and feel twice as proud about the work that you can now allot more energy to!

As always, make an effort to find and follow fellow describers! It’s always encouraging to get described posts on your dash, and I find that sometimes I'm happier to ID an undescribed post when the person who put it on my dash is a friend who tagged it with "no ID"

TL;DR: To make ID-writing less stressful and more low-effort, use different devices and software like onlineocr.net and voice-to-text, limit the amount of work you expect yourself to do, and reach out to artists and other describers!

I’ve seen people on here say that, not only can people Not Change, but that people who try to change are a) lying b) manipulative and c) undeserving of the chance to change. besties…becoming a better person isn’t about whether or not you deserve to become a better person, it’s not even about becoming 100% perfect, it’s about doing damage control after you realize you fucked up. like yeah people you’ve hurt aren’t obligated to like you/forgive you/interact with you, but tumblrites seem to think that anyone who’s ever made a serious mistake should be exiled from society and/or guillotined. we’ve gone from reasonable and correct takes about how people change (ex. “it’s not my responsibility to teach you”— yes! of course it shouldn’t be up to underprivileged random people on the internet to educate the uninformed!) to utterly deranged ones (ex. “nobody with privilege will ever realize that they’re doing harm and the ones who claim to be in the process of learning are just virtue signaling and should be punished for it”— a take I’ve seen applied to men learning about feminism, cishets becoming allies, white people learning about antiracism, relatives of shooters who go on to advocate for gun control, etc)

you do realize that people can genuinely change for the better, right? I’ve seen my parents un-transphobia themselves firsthand, going from thinking that my sibling came out “for attention” to wholeheartedly believing in trans rights. my grandma’s father was every kind of asshole imaginable and she grew up indoctrinated, but as an adult she broke away from him and has spent the rest of her life working on unlearning stuff. my cousin grew up in the rural south and parroted his rural southern dad’s opinions until he was thirteen and started actually thinking for himself, at which point he did a total 180 and is now studying history with a focus on the evolution of the rights of the underprivileged

so when I see people on here say that people shouldn’t change because they don’t deserve to change it rubs me the wrong way. cause at that point it sounds like you’d rather have that person stay harmful so you can stay mad at them, instead of letting them change and gaining yourself an ally. again, you don’t need to interact with them, but. at this point it kind of feels like you care more about hating The Oppressors than about protecting The Oppressed.

I was reminded of the time that tumblr tried to make "monster high but with tumblr sexymen", and one of the characters was (obviously) the daughter of the once-ler.

And the funny thing to me about that is that in the canon of the illumination lorax movie, the once-ler is heavily implied to have an estranged daughter. I don't know all the sexymen off the top of my head but I think he might've been one of the only ones referenced in that trend who actually had a daughter in his own canon.

not a dumb question at all!!! japanese formal language can be very confusing!!

(disclaimer: i will say first that my japanese is not very good and i'm also not very familiar with other LDH groups so anyone pls correct me if im wrong!! i wouldn't be surprised if fanta is more casual about it,, so i'm not super confident about it but this is my general impression!!)

from my understanding fanta (and LDH as a whole) actually tend to be quite strict with honorifics and formal speech. i remember just recently seeing a video of some Johnny Company groups on tv with some LDH members where they discussed the LDH high five rule, which is that kouhai must ALWAYS high five senpais with two hands

the J company members were very shocked (and maybe impressed?) by this because J company groups will apparently be quite casual with senpais

i won't speak to other groups because I'm not familiar with them, but in Fanta the members tend to be very strict with calling each other formally. all younger members will call members older than them with "name-kun" (except sekai, every member calls him sekai-san) and use honorific speech. Keito always calls nacchan as "horinatsu-kun" because he is younger, as does sota (though sota will also occasionally use "hori-san")

and all of this is despite many members knowing each other for 10+ years or being childhood friends (keito still speaks formally with sawa and horinatsu still calls leiya "leiya-kun". though from what i can think of, whenever horinatsu refers to shota, he does not use -kun), so i would say ldh is just very strict about it.🤷‍♀️ there is even a weird case with sawa and taiki, where sawa is older but taiki is the senpai so they both call each other taiki-kun and natsuki-kun (or sometimes sawa-san)

however i will say that while they are strict, because fanta is obviously very close the times i can think of off the top of my head where a younger member will drop honorifics, the older member will call them out, but they never actually seem very bothered (like with horinatsu, he is still laughing while hitting keito, and im pretty sure keito didn't apologize)

others i can think of are leiya calling taiki with no honorifics here (at 1:04): the question is "who do you think is most improved since debut" and leiya just says "taiki" and taiki yells "don't call me without honorifics!" but is still just laughing, and leiya does not apologize

and taiki dropping to informal speech while talking to sekai here (at 2:03). the question is "please tell us a good point of the next member!" which in this case is taiki, and taiki says "please tell me! (informally)" and sekai says "why are you speaking informally?" and taiki and the members just laugh🥰

in terms of using formal vs informal speech in general there are some members that i have definitely seen drop them from time to time (like yusei to leiya and sota to yusei) but even then they will always still call the older one with -kun

though all of this is to say its very possible that they are just like this in front of the camera to follow ldh rules and are very friendly and informal behind camera but i cant speak to that;;🙇‍♂️

i have no spirit to work today but we still gotta get this bread so. i'm listening to fanta's old radio episodes in the background while working and gonna list them here for my own memo:

this episode with Sawanatsu + Horinacchan + Leiya is so fun!!! it's so nice listening to them together!! i like the relaxed atmosphere they have as fanta's adult members (not the leaders, not the youngsters). they talked about how horinatsu came to be called Nacchan (talked about Shota too), got excited over their local supermarket, xmas episode as jsb3 support dancers and all of them being mad at a listener's no good boyfriend. Leiya especially got heated up. Sawanatsu voice: "if you can't understand a woman's feeling, there's no saving you anymore. don't you dare make a girlfriend ever again!"

Sekai+Horinacchan+Sota. Sekai ofc have to take a jab at taiki as soon as he's mentioned. Taiki never sends the dogeza emoji apologetically, he always does it ironically. Horinacchan openly confesses that he has a mother-complex so he never had a rebellious phase. Sekai told how during his youth, someone pointed out that its obvious that he had a crush on one of his girl friend, and he just admit it. (OMG SEKAI LOVE STORY????) and he also had a rebellious phase. The three of them also have pets at home so they started talking about that too

nowadays fanta radio only has a 2-person format so its nice change listening to 3 and more members talking. and fanta members have gotten better at talking on radio so it's not a headache trying to listen who's overtalking who and their words are easy to understand even when they're being excited

Silverstream's Rebellion (Part 2)

Some ShadowClan cats start visiting RiverClan everyday to help start enforcing new rules set in place by Tigerstar

Tigerstar decides the half-clan cats need to be kept imprisoned since he can’t trust their loyalty lies only with RiverClan, since all four of them have ties to ThunderClan

Silverstream along with Mistyfoot’s kits are allowed to remain free for the time being but are threatened to be made prisoners alongside their family should they step out of line

Silverstream is banned from attending the gathering where Leopardstar and Tigerstar announce their alliance

Pikepaw is killed during a “training accident” so Silverstream sneaks Mistyfoot’s two surviving kits(Reedpaw and Primrosepaw) out of camp and gives them to ThunderClan, explaining whats happening in RiverClan

Upon returning to camp, she is questioned and imprisoned alongside the half-clan cats where Mistyfoot thanks her for at least saving her kits, wishing she could return the favor

The next day Stonefur is brought before Tigerstar and Leopardstar where he is told to either kill Silverstream’s kits or renounce his loyalty to TigerClan

Stonefur accuses Leopardstar of not heeding Silverstream’s warnings and leading RiverClan to ruins resulting in Tigerstar ordering his execution

Stormpaw and Featherpaw are returned to the prison where Silverstream fears they or Mistyfoot will be next They are quickly rescued by Firestar, Graystripe and Raven(Ravenpaw) and just barely escape RiverClan territory with their lives

Mistyfoot is reunited with her two kits and Graytsripe reunited with his mate and kits

Firestar apologizes for being too late to save Stonefur but promises they can hold a vigil for him even if they can’t get his body

After WindClan is attacked by TigerClan, Silverstream vows to fight alongside ThunderClan and WindClan against TigerClan, stating she will not allow Tigerstar or Leopardstar to ruin her clan

Mistyfoot tells Firestar that Silverstream had told RiverClan the truth about Tigerstar so many RiverClan cats might be willing to join the fight against TigerClan

Silverstream stands alongside Firestar and Tallstar when they go to meet Tigerstar and Leopardstar who are revealed to be working alongside a group of cats calling themselves BloodClan

BloodClan’s leader refuses to fight allowing Firestar to explain Tigerstar’s entire history from Redtail’s murder up until TigerClan

Scourge kills Tigerstar and then warns the clans that they either leave the forest or BloodClan would kill all of them

Firestar and Tallstar both want to fight and Silverstream goes to RiverClan with Firestar to convince the remains of RiverClan and ShadowClan to join them

Silverstream rejects Leopardstar as leader and asks the rest of RiverClan to fight with her for their home, which earns her the support of her clan

Blackfoot agrees to also fight alongside the other three clans, asking for forgiveness 

Silverstream stays in RiverClan to help prepare them for the upcoming fight but tells Firestar to keep the half-clan cats in ThunderClan where they would be safe from Leopardstar

The clan begins to see Silverstream as leader as she takes charge for the upcoming fight

Leopardstar agrees to step down as leader if they survive he battle with BloodClan but points out Silverstream has never had an apprentice and thus can’t be deputy let alone leader

When the day comes Silverstream gathers everyone up and they head off towards Fourtrees for the battle

Silverstream fights alongside Gaystripe during the battle and he tells her if they survive he will return to RiverClan to live with her for the rest of their lives

When the battle is finally brought to an end, WindClan chases the BloodClan cats away while everyone else counts their dead and gathers up all the survivors 

Mistyfoot tells Silverstream that Leopardstar made her deputy during the battle and offers to give the position over to Silverstream if she wishes

Silverstream accepts Mistyfoot as the new leader and offers to serve as her deputy but truly only wants to live in peace with her mate and kits

Primrosepaw’s mentor was killed during the battle with BloodClan so Silverstream is made her mentor

Leopardstar is demoted but is allowed to remain in RiverClan as a warrior

#Silverstream's Rebellion #warrior cats au #I only split this into two because it was so long #I know I wrote Leopardstar as a bit unreasonable #but keep in mind this is from Silverstream's biased persepctive #and from Silverstream's point of view Leopardstar is unfair #Leopardstar made a huge mistake siding with Tigerstar but she isn't a terrible leader all things considered #she just broke her clans trust with the TigerClan stuff #which is why she was simply demoted but not exiled as the clan still wants to give her a chance to redeem herself #sorry for long ramble in the tags #Bramblefeather out
