An open letter to my favorite high school teacher:

How do you even start a letter to someone who’s made one of, if not the, biggest impacts on your life? I can only think of one thing, and that’s thank you.

You always said it’s an honor to be our teacher, but do you truly know how much of an honor it is to be your student? I as much as anyone know how unbelievably lucky we are to have you. I’ve had the privilege of working with you and being taught by you for 5 years, and I’ve simply enjoyed every second of it. It’s so hard thinking about not finishing this year with you, however I know our journey is far from over.

Thank you for never doubting me, and for allowing me to rely on you. When I wasn’t so sure of my own abilities you never questioned me. You showed me how to accept challenges head on and not back down. You showed me compassion. I knew through all the hardships of high school you were there to add a little light into my day. I truly believe you have made me a better person.

Though it hurts knowing you won’t be by my side when things get tough in upcoming years, I will never forget to choose love, and be nothing but myself. I know you’ll still be there, and I can’t wait to show you everything I’ve done when I come back.

I’m going to make you so proud.

One child at a time...

We all have our favorite teacher. Someone who is not just a teacher or a professor to us, but someone who we always look up to. As for me, he is that teacher.

He is Jose Moshe Villanueva, a high school teacher from my alma mater - Cielito Zamora Junior High School. Some people say that he is strict, but he is absolutely not. He may be strict at times, but he knows how to be funny when it is time for laughing.

This man taught me several things that cannot be learned from books. He taught me how to be grateful in everything you do. He also taught me that a person has to be confident enough to accomplish any task.

He never fails to make me understand that everything happens for a reason, whether it is a blessing or a lesson. My favorite quotation of his is this - "From a tiny cell, you become somebody and then you'll go back to dust."

He is indeed a guy with a great mind that I will always admire. He made me realized that my mind could also be shaped not just because of books and journals, but indeed in what is the reality of life.

Sir Villanueva is a living proof of what Brad Henry once said, “A good teacher can inspire, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning."

my anatomy teacher

she is the best person. i admire her so much. she’s helped me so much. her life story is incredible and it has produced such a compassionate and well-rounded person. she is an expert in every art you can think of. she’s good at math, knows every science from chemistry to biology to anatomy to psychology. i strive to be her. i look up to her so much. on top of that she understands my pain with the loss of my dad first hand. i can’t wrap my head around how she ended up in the same tiny school that i did. that kind of thing is the only thing that keeps my belief in a God. i am definitely not catholic, but i agree that there is one being up there.
