from the ground up ! fernando a. x ofc (professional wrestler!canadian!ofc)
“this life will go by in a blink of an eye but i wouldn’t wanna spend it without you by my side.”
summary: weeks after their 15th anniversary, trish and fernando alonso introduced the newest members of their family to the world. f1 twt were also posting about… everything alonso-related, including the names of their kids (in a loving manner)
content warning: mentions thirsty!grid of years 2023 and 2005, literally fluff, long ass names of the alonso kids, pregnancy/birth announcement, crappy spanish translations + taylor/fernando alonso references
note: i can see you lurking and i just wanna say hi 😩 everything’s been a bit of a flop, i know 🥲 there should be some pierre gasly content otw as well- but idk who else to write for (thinking about este and checo atm)
let me know what you think!! send me an ask- tell me what’s going on, etc. enjoy xx

[1st image: “back in 2013, your husband - f1 driver fernando alonso - started a rumour about your firstborn’s name being seven something words long. you never addressed anything about it despite it being asked repeatedly. then you confirmed that that’s the case after you had given birth to your second child. the youngest.” trish: she’s not going to be the youngest soon enough but yes.]
[2nd: just for the record, our kids freddy and rey have been given at least three middle names. and since they were both born in spain, their surname follows after what the practices tell us. i didn’t honestly want to tell anyone outside our family about it but nando was so excited that he told his grid friends. sebastian vettel’s the one to basically cause chaos and said “yeah the two named their son after their ancestors.”]
[3rd: it became a recurring topic that would show up once in a while. we don’t like making a big deal out of it — our kids don’t need to have their legal papers be published or spread to the public because they are entitled to the privacy that they have now. though the two have been bragging about their names in front of a camera whenever they could. especially when their papa gets interviewed— oh god, they actually tell everyone their full name.]
[4th: “yes! i remember the press conference with him and the kids!” t: i was hoping that it wasn’t streamed live when they had that but what can i do? it’s already out there hahaha. they’re really proud of their name. “would you be willing to repeat what they introduce themselves as?” t: i might as well. so, their names are frederico hugo fernando patrick and reyna severina odette anastasia alonso staedtlander— don’t look at me like that. i know it’s long.]

what's your top 5 best drivers on the grid (based on pure skill, not cars)
Excellent question anon. Let's get to it.
5. Oscar Piastri
A bold choice perhaps considering he's one of the greenest on the grid still, but Oscar is a future WDC. His attitude and approach to the sport is cool, calm, collected and reeks of a future WDC. The mental aspect is such a large part of F1, I mean, look at his teammate for example. Lando is a brilliant driver but he can't seem to overcome a mental block he has to being in P1. Oscar, on the other hand, seems almost unfazed at the idea of winning, or if he has an issue with the car he seems almost zen about it, still trying to drive to the best of his ability. And Oscar has ability, lest we forget his pedigree as F3 and F2 champion in his rookie seasons. I think Oscar will ultimately have to move teams in order to mount a proper WDC campaign, since McLaren have made it fairly clear they'd prefer to centre Lando, but I have no doubt that from 2027 onwards Oscar will be competing for WDCs.
4. Fernando Alonso
Crazy consistent and he's our beloved Shakesperean villain who just can't seem to die. He puts that Aston in places it should not be and can still pull off some pretty insane racing (his overtake on Checo in Brazil 2023?). He's still got it. Nothing more to be said really.
3. Lewis Hamilton
I physically could not place the GOAT, the greatest driver this sport has ever seen anywhere outside the top three. In fact, the only reason why he's not higher is because P1 and P2 are younger and have the benefit of having easily a decade to improve their skill further. But make no mistake, Lewis Hamilton is the greatest of them all. He's had a rocky couple of years with Merc, and I honestly think his results now are just a reflection of his and Merc's relationship breaking down and should not be taken as a deterioration in skill. I have no doubt that from next year, we will start to see Lewis wins again and maybe even a WDC campaign in 2026.
2. Charles Leclerc
We all know my heavy Charles bias is a thing that exists, but Charles is truly probably the most naturally talented driver on the grid at the moment. The way he handled that brake balance in Bahrain when probably any other driver, save the two others in the top three here, would've had to DNF. Charles's F2 season was also absolutely insane, to the point that he was drug tested more than any other driver IN THE PADDOCK (F1 included) in 2017 because the FIA were convinced he must be cheating. The hype around Charles is justified and true, and the ONLY reason why he doesn't have a WDC yet is Mattia Binotto. But I truly think 2025 could be a year for a Charles WDC, for reasons ranging from Red Bull hitting a development ceiling and Lewis Hamilton drawing in an insane amount of talent to the Scuderia. I think in a lot of ways some of the drives that Charles pulls off get overlooked because he makes them look so effortless and easy. He will be the next driver to win a WDC, make no mistake, and with the way that Fred Vasseur is setting up Ferrari, I think it's likely that we will see a period of crazy Charles Leclerc dominance before this decade is done.
Max Verstappen
I debated between Charles and Max for n1, but ultimately I think Max's consistency speaks for itself. I mean, he's won from the most positions (P1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14), and has an average race placement of 1.27 last year. Yes, Max has had the gift of a consistent car and a brilliant team for the past few years, but even before he started his crazy winning streak, his average race finishing position minus DNFs was 3rd in 2020. Max is on peak form right now, and to place him anywhere other than first would be ridiculous.

wanted to point out"knowing when to quit" is valid for family and personal reasons, plus the fact that he felt fulfilled in nico's case (and i see why rivals would 👀👀 at the lack of ambition, which isnt fair but i get it) but i don't see how the whole thing of quitting when at the top is supposed to be better than not as if 41 yrs old fernando wasn't still elite or lewis whose 2023 was better than some of his championship years imo, the both of them in mid cars and better than most of the grid. i don't think they're chasing ghosts, they clearly still enjoy what they do, and they're good at it. winning isn't everything, retirement just comes down to what an athlete really wants and feels like, not where they are in their career
as i was writing this i realized i couldn't think of anyone from that gen outside of lewis and fernando who hasn't gone out sad lmao so idk
you misunderstand me. I'm not saying every driver should retire immediately after winning, I'm talking about framing and how certain decisions can be viewed, acceptance and fulfilment in f1
they're absolutely excellent drivers, and have lucked into staying in good cars (lewis more than fernando) and worked hard into staying in good form along with their natural talent. they're easily better than most of the grid.
but you're absolutely kidding yourself if you don't think fernando isn't chasing ghosts. Fernando retired from f1 in 2018 in that mclaren scoring 50 points in the championship.
He won Le Mans twice and Daytona in 2018/2019, before he came back to f1 because he still believes in that 33rd win and 3rd championship. if drivers only drove for how they felt like and not where they are in their career, then fernando wouldn't have quit f1 if he was in a better car.
The last time Fernando won a race is in 2013, more 10 years ago, and he keeps posting 33 because he believes, even I'm rooting for it too. But it is absolutely chasing a dream that only now this last year's Aston's early performance gives us recency bias of hope.
likewise, lewis and toto have affirmed multiple times that their goal is the 8th wdc. it's not so much as a ghost as the mythical 8th wdc that no one in the sport has done and lewis has to believe he can because his whole career has been achieving the unthinkable.
yes ofc they enjoy racing, and they're some of the best at it, but this conversation is about world champions and neither of them would keep on driving if they weren't chasing that championship/win. the win (for champion drivers) IS everything.
so what happens if fernando wins the 33rd? or 3rd championship? he will gun for the 34th, 4th championship, and he will be 50 years old, driving in circles until he can accept that it isn't coming. that's when drivers retire... in f1 from what we have seen if you're a world champion you can only retire when you're no longer on top of the game and have accepted it. nico was the only one who didn't.

i was tagged by lovely @loveyougoodbi to do an F1 wrapped. so, here are my results!
Tumblr media
i want to elaborate a bit. it was damn hard to do these tops, especially the drivers one. i literally battled with myself for every position ._.
DRIVERS:
1. Charles Leclerc
i adore him as a pilot and as a person. his driving style is exciting and desperate, always on the limit. his fearlessness, his passion for the sport, his loyalty. on the track Charles Leclerc is literally the embodiment of fire and red. i dream of seeing him in a decent car and in my opinion Charles' WDC is only a matter of time.
2. Max Verstappen
Max is perfect on the track. his mistakes are minimal, his calculation and calmness are amazing. i admire his eternal straightforwardness and honest expression of his opinions. i love his dry and sarcastic humour. he is a very strong man who in no way deserves to be booed for his victories.
3. Lando Norris
this boy is a ray of sunshine. protect him and take care of him. and please, for fuck's sake, let 2024 bring him his first victory... as soon as mclaren picked up the pace in the second part of the season, it became immediately apparent what a serious opponent Lando could be on the track. one of the reasons why i have Mexico in my top races is because of his magnificent breakthrough from P19 to P5.
4. Fernando Alonso
is it even necessary to write anything here? how can you not like Alonso? he's even got the best fucking tiktok acc i've ever seen!!!
5. Alex Albon
this man is too fast for Williams. i'm sorry he's spending these years not in a top team, i hope to see him in positions higher up. Alex always makes the most of the car, pulls it in the points and continues to stay positive. he gives off so much warmth that it can't help but make me happy c:
RACES:
1. Las Vegas
everything about it was ✨beautiful✨. from the absolutely awful beginning to the fabulous end. last lap overtake from Charles made me scream. the chaotic start and the amount of overtaking and fighting – oh fuck yes, i honestly didn't expect that. (and sphere was a big plus lmao)
2. Singapore
the only race where RBR had problems led to the fact that we saw a battle for first place from four (4!) cars at once. Carlos took over as Ferrari's strategist and i was honestly very happy to see Carlando on the podium and their genuine embrace c:
3. Zandvoort
chaos? chaos. 186 overtakes. every fucking weather condition. cheering fans. positions changing at the speed of light. liam lawson – what? fernando alonso – WHAT?! and yeah, Max Verstappen still wins the gran prix.
4. Mexico
red bull gives wings right at the first corner. it was great to see both Charles and Lewis on the podium after being disqualified at the previous race. i already mentioned Lando's breakthrough but DAN RICCARDO. he tore everyone and everything. dramatic race i'd say.
5. Monza
it was nice to see ferrari leading the race in Monza. even if only for 15 laps. in 2023, that's a lot for someone who isn't Max. but of course the main highlight is how i almost ended up with heart attack because of the fight between Carlos and Charles in the last laps. but that's what formula 1 should look like. and it was great.
TEAM:
i wrote that it's Red Bull, but i feel a need to mention that because my favourite drivers are all from different teams, it's hard for me to pick just one. when i first started watching formula 1, i would claim to be a Ferrari fan (well i still am...), but the further i got, the more pain and disappointment i got supporting this team and more and more of my respect red bull started to gain. they have a reliable car and strategies. quick pitstops, absolute precision and coordination. they are a team and they deserve every their win this season. now I truly admire RBR.
okay thank you for reading! tagging some people that came to my mind, i'm sorry if you've already done that and i just haven't seen it 😭
no pressure! ignore if you don't feel like it c:

Its sad that they didn't trust charles to be the leader of the project. Now they're talking about him learning like he was some rookie. He will be 28 when lewis arrive, in his seven season at f1. That's his prime
The story of an unexperienced charles learning by having a wdc teammate already happened in 2019. They decided to send the wdc away and supposedly were going to focus on charles as the new leader, but that never happened. And now they're selling this lewis move with the same story again, "a opportunity for charles" he will learn", as if time hasn't passed. Maybe it's because charles looks very boyish still so it's easy to sell the apprentice narrative.
Honesty I wouldn't be surprised if after 2028 max eventually decides to try ferrari, they will boot charles away without ever actually giving him the car to win and trusting him to lead the project.
Hi Anon! Respectfully, hard disagree. I don't think this is a matter of Charles being inexperienced/an apprentice, who needs someone to learn from. Charles is a very capable and accomplished driver himself. That doesn't mean there aren't still things he can learn from someone with many more years of driving experience (in a championship-winning car no less) than him. It would be the same if Alonso had joined the team. Fernando is a very cunning driver who has often used his seniority in driving experience to his advantage. To not see it as an opportunity to learn new or improve existing skills, would be foolish.
I think Ferrari also hopes Lewis' knowledge of how Mercedes operates as a team, comparing their car to the ones he drove for Merc, etc. will be beneficial to help the Ferrari team grow. There are many reasons for Ferrari to want Lewis on their team, that are not needing someone else to lead the project.
Time will tell whether I am right in my assumptions, but I truly believe that they are not discarding Charles as their hope for next WDC. They know that Charles is extremely well liked all around, he is a marketing dream, the tifosi worship the ground he walks on, and after everything he has been through (both in his personal life and with Ferrari), it would be a true fairy tale if he was the one to bring the championship home again at last.
As for Ferrari booting Charles out for Max... Not going to say "inconceivable", because stranger things have happened in F1, but I'd find it highly unlikely with the current people in place at Ferrari, and what I know about Max (which, granted, is not a lot). Let's not forget they were at risk of losing Charles after Silverstone, and they ended up replacing Binotto with Fred, who has a strong relationship with Charles (and Lewis for that matter). And then they gave Fred pretty much free rein to hire/fire as he saw fit to make the team stronger, (with some of the first people to go being those who did not appear to be supporting Charles as the #1 driver).
I do feel like there is a risk of Lewis getting credit for turning the team around when he arrives in 2025, when it is clear that Fred has been working hard to make changes since he started last year. And Charles's input is clearly more valued now. His feedback/suggestions being implemented in car development, strategy, etc. So I really hope that Ferrari can already show this year that they are making giant steps forward, and Charles can pocket a decent number of podiums/wins. Of course there's no telling how dominant the Newey/RB/Max combo will be this year. We may just be looking at another season ending with 23/24 wins by RBR...
In closing, here is a lovely quote from John Elkann at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix: "Charles is a very strong driver with enormous potential, and there is no reason why he cannot become world champion."

was bored so here are my hot takes, wild guesses, biggest wishes and predictions for the 2023 season
· charles wdc
· charles and p2 driver do NOT go into abu dhabi equal on points
· max & lewis in top 3
· max wins at least 6 races
· max & lewis have a big controversial crash at least once, overshadows someone’s maiden podium
· george in 4th, wins at least one race
· george and lewis continuously take points off each other; tensions in merc by the summer break
· mercedes win constructor’s
· checo & carlos underperform
· checo and max come to blows at some point; checo actively fights max on track during overtakes multiple times
· daniel does NOT replace checo in red bull; checo gets a contract extension but a short one
· daniel substitutes for one of RB drivers during a race. he finishes outside of top 10. it gets featured on dts s6
· red bull uses daniel to distract fans from a poor race at least once (a la ferrari with charles’ ice baths)
· esteban comes out on top in alpine
· the alpines collide at best 6 races into the season
· alpine still with reliability issues; mclaren finishes best of the rest
· oscar keeps up with lando brilliantly, finishes the season in top 10 and wins rookie of the year
· lando still doesn’t have a victory
· fernando finishes in top 5 at least four times
· alpha tauri improves, but barely. finishes ahead of haas tho!
· nyck performs well but underwhelming in comparison to the expectations. outperforms yuki
· yuki loses his AT seat to liam lawson, gets the red bull reserve driver role
· ^ causes speculation that they’re preparing liam to replace checo as max’s teammate (they are)
· haas flop
· kmag and hulkenberg attempt to murder each other both on and off the track
· williams gets sold (it’s announced during the season)
· logan doesn’t score any points
· huge drama in las vegas (infidelity scandal or drug allegations or both, multiple drivers)
· huge drama in mexico, red bull pr crisis, max barely goes out of his motorhome, everyone asking about brazil
· more wet races than this year
· ferrari use their veto power
· toto gets into drama with fred; christian gleefully narrates in dts s6

05.03.2023 | BAHRAIN 2023
Watching the race was an odyssey, and I admit I got bored quickly. It got entertaining the moment Alonso started to overtake. Anyway, this is my opinion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
RED BULL
Max Verstappen is a beast. I'm afraid I'll have to say it every week. He had that amazing dominance typical of him. The only bad thing is that there's no fight for P1, only the lower positions, and that's boring. Still, the Red Bull drivers that dominate and people hate have a very special place in my heart. He finished P1 (1:33:56.736).
I want to see more of Checo. Unfortunately, he is behind Max and ahead of the others, so they don't show him because there are no overtakes. Even so, every time he does overtakes, it's incredible the power and speed he picks up in a matter of seconds. I already want more wins from Checo in 2023. He finished P2 (+11.987s)
ASTON MARTIN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FERNANDO ALONSO 2023 WDC! The Curse of Bahrain/the First Round. Period. He did amazing. I watched excited for him. He literally was the most exciting driver of the whole race because his fights were incredible, and I hope to see more of that during the season. He finished P3 (+38.637s)
Lance Stroll P6 is the most amazing of all. After the race, he told his entire journey to drive again, and it's an incredible story. I stand by my position - he shouldn't race and fully recover because he could be a danger to himself and others, but I also accept he did great. It's a shame that he touched Fernando on the first lap because it shows he doesn't have great control due to the pain in his wrists, but he only has to improve, I guess. He finished P6 (+54.502s), with a +15.865s gap from his teammate.
FERRARI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a shame that so many people are throwing hate at Carlos when he finished P4 after spending the ENTIRE weekend talking and showing that the car was not the best. He was able to hold his own against Lewis and hold P4, and the battle with Fernando was interesting as well. Many are talking about a conspiracy of how problems only happen to Charles. I feel like all of them are idiots for blinding themselves and not realizing that they both have the curse called Ferrari. The difference is that Charles is closer to a WDC. Carlos has mechanical issues and DNFs as well, and assuming that he or someone else is sabotaging Charles is stupid.
Charles' DNF was the most heartbreaking of all. It's a shame. I can't believe it's a mechanical problem after LITERALLY fixing the car before the race. How is it possible? Now they're risking a 10-position penalty. And supposedly, it was human error in the first damn race. I hope, based on last year, it's the Curse of Bahrain/the First Round. Charles Leclerc 2023 WDC.
MERCEDES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll go crazy. I usually defend Toto but he needs to change his fucking car immediately because I need Sir Lewis Hamilton to win his 8th Title. Yes, the fight with Alonso was incredible, I loved it. BUT. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR P4?! I really hope it's the Curse of Bahrain/the First Round and that this means he's going to end up champion.
It makes me angry to talk about Mercedes. George lost a position! I know it doesn't sound like much, but the standards I have for the Big 3 teams are different from the others, and what I expect from Mercedes is podiums and wins, not losing positions!!! To think that George gave up just on the first race, saying that Red Bull will win everything ??? God. I want to see George win races, and I need Mercedes to get their shit together.
ALFA ROMEO
Tumblr media
Valtteri won points and 4 positions (P12 to P8)! I was happy, okay? But watching Alfa Romeo battle with none other than Mercedes, Ferrari, and Aston Martins was hilarious. Valtteri did very well.
Zhou lost 3 positions (P13 to P16) and finished second last. It's a shame because I'm looking forward to seeing him gain points this season. He said the car felt better than it did in Qualifying, which is…odd? worrying? I don't know, I expect a lot from them.
ALPINE
Tumblr media
Pierre had the record for the most overtakes, 11 in total! (P20 to P9!). He had a good pace and did incredibly. I have nothing more to say. Esteban was in P9 in Qualifying, so I just hope Alpine doesn't become one of those teams where one driver has to be terrible while the other does well.
Esteban truly was the struggle of the year. I felt sorry for him, he had so many penalties and like a 20-second penalty in total. I feel the acceleration in the pitlane was a bit over the top and deserved just a call-out. The good note is that Alpine was smart to retire him to save the motor (allegedly). I wish they had retired him a bit sooner, but oh well. Despite everything, they had a good pace.
WILLIAMS
I think I'm talking from my love for Alex Albon, but I find it incredible that he has won 5 positions (P15 to P10) and finished in the points! The Williams showed what I saw during Testing. They weren't going to be quicker than Red Bull or Ferrari, but I knew they could show the possibility of being in the midfield. Much of this must be thanks to the driver's position during Qualifying, but I am hopeful.
Okay even though Logan didn't finish in the points, he was the highest-placed rookie, gaining 4 positions (P16 to P12). While I'm not a fan of Logan, I like to see Williams with a car that can move them up several positions.
ALPHATAURI
Yuki gained 3 positions (P14 to P11) and narrowly missed the points (+1.126s from Alex Albon). Yuki had very good maneuvers and put up quite a fight, but it wasn't enough. Yuki said his pace was faster than expected, which made me laugh because I also expected them to be slower. They recognize that Williams is faster than them at certain points, so I wonder if the fight to see who will be in the midfield will be Williams and AlphaTauri.
Nyck gained 5 positions (P19 to P14) but there were 3 DNFs, so he was almost at the end, +1 lap from the leader. The pace wasn't the best in the world, but I think Nyck has a lot of room to improve. AlphaTauri was better than I expected from them, yet I feel like they should be better than they are anyway.
HAAS
I'm very happy with Kevin gaining 4 positions (P17 to P13). I want things to work out for Kevin, but I'm praying for Haas' downfall, so I'm conflicted.
I know I have a bias for Nico Hülkenberg but hey, he finished 5 positions lower (P10 to P15) which is obviously not ideal. Both Haas were +1 laps, and Nico H. received a 15-second penalty for violating track limits multiple times.

Lando was fighting Esteban to see who had to go to pitlane more often. Now seriously, that McLaren was about to explode, I'm surprised it made it to the end but it was +2 laps. I imagine it must be so frustrating for Lando, being referred to as "the only driver other than the Big 3 to be on the podium" and now he didn't make it past Q2 and finished last in the race. Someone analyzed the race pace and Lando was one of the best or the best; this is not entirely correct because he was being lapped by the leaders, and as he was behind them, he had the opportunity to use the DRS and increase his pace, and this was almost at the end of the race. Lando said it wasn't as bad as they expected. DID YOU EXPECT IT TO BE WORSE?!
Ow Oscar :( It's a shame he had car issues and a DNF, especially so early in the race and the season. I was really excited to see him. It's his first race, and there's still the whole season for him to recover, but I'm worried that McLaren is unreliable and will DNF all the time.
