I’ve been dying to dive into fanfiction for The Doctors are Out on Webtoon! For those who haven’t seen my previous posts screaming about it, it’s a web comic about a Doctor, Matias “Mat,” and a Veterinarian, Fernando “Nando,” who have clinics right beside each other, compete, bicker, and will most likely develop feelings for each other!

It’s so fucking good, and the author, Blau, is endlessly talented! You can read the web comic here! There are 40 chapters out so far!

Now, I high key headcanon that when Nando gets severly stressed, he winds up sick.

Here’s a little drabble set between chapters 39 and 40!

By all accounts, Nando should be exhausted, having tumbled down a cliff and walked on an injured foot in the rain for hours, but, despite the bone deep fatigue pushing down on him, he can’t sleep. It could be the foreign bed, he thinks; though, he finds Mat’s bed to be rather comfortable. It could also be the absurd, embarrassing pajamas, or rather, pajamas that he’s stupidly well aware Mat has worn at some point. It could be Mat...

He shakes his head, pushing a warm cheek into the pillow below him. As much as he wants to believe his restlessness is the sheer result of his current sleeping situation, down to the clothing, he knows, familiarly deep down, that the stress from today’s weighing down hot over him. He was careless, yet despite all odds against them, he and Ren were served the best possible outcome: Ren wasn’t injured, and they were found.

Nando rolls onto his back with a sigh. He stares at the ceiling, but behind his eyes, all he can see are rain, dark, towering trees, and Ren’s tear-stricken face etched painfully into his head. He pushes himself up and swings his legs over the bed. Carefully, he slips down until he’s testing pressure on his injured foot. While the wrapping helps, it aches, and he winces as he stands, immediately favoring his other leg as he hobbles out of the room and to the bathroom.

He’s quiet, catiously bracing himself against the wall, and he when he slips inside, he cracks the door, not wishing for the sound of it closing fully to wake anyone, and cuts on the light. He limps to the mirror, frowning at his reflection. His cheeks are hot and flushed, and he bends down to splash cold water over his face, to alleviate some of the heat clinging to his skin. It’s both too cold yet refreshing, and Nando knows he should find that alarming; however, his head’s beginning to swim, and he just manages to drop down against the edge of bathtub.

He hunches forward, resting his elbows on his knees and dropping his face into his cupped palms. It’s too hot, yet he’s shivering. As much as he tries through muted breathing and counting exercies, he can’t shake the budding panic that’s swelling deep within his stomach, panic and stress tangling around one another. He should have been more careful; he knows this. He and Ren got lucky, and luck’s a tricky thing, he thinks. In the present, it’s a blessing, but in the future, when you have time to ponder all that could have gone wrong had it not been for sheer luck, it’s almost maddening.

“Nando?”

Nando jerks his head up, frowning, eyes stinging. He swallows thickly. “S-sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” He studies Mat’s frown, the deep downward curve that pairs with the furrow of his brow.

“Are you okay? You look flushed.”

Sighing, Nando opts for a nervous laugh that doesn’t quite hit its mark. He opens his mouth to assure Mat he’s fine, but Mat’s moved to a crouch before him, and he’s dropped one, warm hand to his knee.

“You’re shaking.”

Right, Nando thinks. You’d be shaking, too, if you almost got Ren killed. Again, he makes to speak, to brush of Mat’s concern because Mat has enough to worry about, but then Mat presses the back of his hand to Nando’s forehead, and Nando’s brain briefly short-circuits.

“You have a fever,” Mat starts. He stands and moves toward the mirror, opening it to rifle through medicine, and Nando can only watch blankly, his fuzzy mind still wrapping around Mat’s words.

He wordlessly obliges when Mat waves a thermometer in front of his face, opening his mouth on auto-pilot and trusting Mat to handle the rest, and it’s not until the small device beeps that his mind swirls to the conclusion that he’s been here before: with his mom, Ava, Mary. Since he can remember, he’s been gripped with brief fevers after experiencing something that peaked his stress levels, and this, he thinks, is no different.

“Not too high, but still concerning,” Mat mutters, abandoning the thermometer on the sink to reclaim his spot crouched in front of Nando. He prods at Nando’s wrapped foot. “Is this bothering you a lot?”

“What?” Nando blinks slowly, shaking his head. “No. No, it’s... I’m fine, Mat. This just happens sometimes.”

“Not to pull out the doctor card, Nando, but I am one. And unexplained, sporadic fevers aren’t normal-”

“-they usually come when I’m really stressed,” Nando mutters, and he drops his gaze to the floor, not wishing to linger on the way Mat’s face shifts to unfiltered, genuine sympathy through soft, warm eyes.

“Nando...”

“It’s fine,” Nando starts again, far too focused on Mat’s steady hand once more gently placed atop his knee. “I just came in here for some water. Once I go to sleep, I’ll be fine.” To his surprise, Mat doesn’t respond, only offering a few pills and a glass of water after an endless moment of his eyes burning against Nando’s bowed face.

It’s not until Mat helps Nando back into bed and drapes a damp cloth over his forehead that he speaks, and though not much in words, it hits Nando like a ton of bricks.

“Today wasn’t your fault.”

Nando doesn’t say anything; he just watches, wide eyed, as Mat busies his hands by tucking the blankets tighter around Nando’s frame.

“I know you think it was and that you will continue to think it was, but, the way I see it, Ren is fine, and though you’re hurt, it could have been way worse.” Mat pauses, leaving his hand resting atop Nando’s covered thigh. “I could have lost two really important people today, but I didn’t. I take that as a win.”

It’s as if the gears in Nando’s brain rust over until they chip and crumble into a pile of non-functional scraps in his mind. The only one still churning is stuttering on one word: imporant.

-ndo? Nando!”

Nando blinks slowly. Mat’s face is crowding his vision, and his fingers are brushing against his cheek. He can feel his face growing hotter; though, he knows this isn’t the fever.

“Sorry, what were you saying?”

Mat leans back with a loud sigh, raking his fingers through his hair. “I was saying how it looked like you completely checked out on me, and as it turns out, you did.” He offers a tired smile. “Geez, Forehead, don’t scare me like that.”

Huffing, Nando pokes at the cloth draped over his forehead. “You can’t even see my forehead right now.”

“Right, but it still haunts my dreams, so I know it’s there.”

“I want to page a new doctor,” Nando mutters flatly, and Mat laughs again, real this time, quiet but warm, and Nando can’t help but smile along with it.

“You gonna be okay?” Mat asks after a comfortable minute Nando doesn’t want to end.

“Of course,” Nando assures, and he narrows his eyes until Mat gives in with a sigh as he slips off the bed.

“How about, if you need something, text me? I’ve gotten used to waking up at the first vibration. It won’t wake Ren; he’s sleeping like a rock now.”

Nando nods, eyes following Mat’s movements to the door, lingering on Mat’s gaze when Mat looks over his shoulder.

“Feel better. And, try not to stress anymore about today, okay? You’re both safe, and that’s all that matters.”

Nando manages a meek nod, and it’s not until he’s sure Mat’s back in bed with Ren that he drags the blankets up and over his face to hide the angry flush, that’s sorely not equated to his fever, coloring his cheeks and creeping up to the tips of his ears.

Okay I'm gonna do all the LGBT+ webtoons on my subscription list.

In the order I see them:

This one shot up to one of my favorite in like, a day. It didn't even take a few hours to read the whole thing. It's ongoing so I can't vouch for what the author makes after 6/1/2021, but wow this is so cute.

Basically: soft colors and four boys in college who develop a polyamorous relationship. They don't have names other than Goth, Prep, Jock, and Nerd.

There's mentions of sex in this and lots of kissing. Overall it's very cute and wholesome.

I've recommended this for two categories before because it's a pretty diverse comic.

Would you like a black gay Batman and a black, bald, lesbian, happily married Sherlock Holmes? Because this comic has both of those characters and also they're in a steampunk setting.

This one has violence in it. It's not the most graphic ever but they don't exactly soften it. There's kissing, I don't remember any sex.

Witch meets mermaid. Lesbian activity. Honestly it's not my favorite, there's nothing wrong with it I'm just not super invested. It's on this list because it's wlw and I thought someone else would like it more than I do.

Domestic enemies to friends to lovers. Fernando Guevera, a vet, moves into the clinic right next door to Matias Guevara, a doctor.

They basically misunderstand and nag each other until Nando meets Mat's son, Ren, and they realize that hey, this person isn't so bad after all.

It's a pretty sweet story and I'm really enjoying it. There's some mild violence like falling down, punching (once, it's a misunderstanding), smacking (I think), a forehead flick, and mentions of injury because they both work in medical industry.

It shouldn't be too disturbing, I just think people should be able to know. They haven't kissed yet, but if they don't the fans will collectively riot, and they've talked about kissing. I don't know if it's going to go any further than that.

(The artist is from the Philippines! They have another comic that's easy to find if you scroll to the bottom of the description for this one.

It's set in college type school and everyone has animals, up to one of the main characters being a cervitaur. I haven't finished it yet, but it's completed.)

This one is about several kids in highschool who are still trying to figure things out.

One interesting aspect of the story is that Gaby--one of the main characters and a gay guy--realizes he has a crush on his female friend.

It really unnerves him, and he and his friends and family members talk through what that means for him, what that feels like, and what that means for how he wants to present his sexuality.

I think it's really realistic, and I've never seen any story do that before.

One of the main characters seems to be bi--it's not confirmed, but... How do I explain this

Okay. So Grillo has a crush on this girl. And surprise! This girl is dating his twin sister.

So, yeah, there's two wlw in this story, and it's not clear to me if they're bi or lesbian.

Mari (the girl) is having trouble telling her parents she likes girls, but I don't recall any specifics. Mica (the twin) isn't shy about the fact that she's dating Mari, and is pretty understanding of her discomfort in public, but again it's not specified.

It's speculated that another main character is ace, but nothing's been said about that yet either. I suspect that some of these things might come up later, since multiple plotlines are centered around these kids figuring themselves out.

Overall, it's a pleasant slice of life, and I can't think of any warnings other than the fact that the characters eat sometimes. Which...happens in basically every comic I can think of. Sorry? Idk.

GAY.

*ahem* gimme a minute I tripped over my love for this comic.

This comic uses Christian beliefs as superpowers, so if that bothers you then you're going to want to skip it. Me? I love it. I'm ecstatic.

The focal characters are basically clergy, and they get special tattoos based on the guardian angel they're aligned with. The main character was chosen by Gabriel, and he can pull a chain out of his tattoos to fight demons with.

...also he's an atheist.

The main character has not actually had any gay activity but, given what I know of the author and what they've said on twitter and the way the characters act and look, I'm thinking it's gonna be a slow burn.

I don't think this one is the most overt yet? I'm going to reread the entire comic for that and trawl the creator's twitter, but you know how you can spot gays in the wild sometimes? This feels like that. I'm not just looking for crumbs here, it's embedded.

There's violence and blood and rituals and demons. It can get pretty detailed. Overall, the vibe is bright and dark at the same time? Idk.

Scifi time! The main character is a trans guy. One of the other main characters is a sentient android who's only ever been in a relationship with a man.

We're going to get into that in this comic, and he's not supposed to be fully sentient, so idk if an android can be a gay man. There's a plot thread about that. The sentience part, I mean.

Gayness and transness isn't discussed, and no one has treated it as abnormal so far. The guy who bought the android is an abusive jerk, and they never bring it up when they're showing you how awful he is.

It's the future, so maybe that's normal now? The main character has a robot parrot with the trans flag as its crest. The parrot functions in the same capacity as Alexa, only there's flying involved.

There's some pretty detailed violence in this one, complete with blood and breaking bones. The artist doesn't focus on it, but it's part of the story and they don't hold back.

Overall, the tone is.... sweet, but set to a dark n gritty backing track.

In case you couldn't figure it out from the context of this list and that description... Felix ends up falling in love with a guy from a simulated universe.

This goes about how you might expect.

It's pretty cute. There's mentions of death and car crash, and people are sad sometimes, but you don't see any violence depicted.

You might have some ethical issues with the fact that Felix can control Milo's universe, but they discuss this directly and Felix is determined to find a way to interact with Milo on equal terms. He does his best to not abuse his power and level the playing field as much as possible.

Milo does not care. He's a chill dude.

Felix cares very much. He is not.

Overall it's interesting, and I want to see where it goes.

*vibrates in excitement*

This is the answer to the question, "What if people had bird wings?"

It also answers the question, "What if society's hierarchy were mandated by the species of bird that you are?"

Which I don't think everyone asks when they envision people with wings, but it's an interesting concept.

In case that last part didn't make it clear, there's racism in this comic. It's fantasy racism, but it's going to be very uncomfortable for some. There's genocide and government cover-ups involved.

There's also murder and getting shot. They show it directly, and it doesn't really bother me because it has exactly as much focus as it needs to for the story.

Spoiler: one of the main characters is friends with a drag queen and used to work for her. I'm not sure what the actual job title is but there's fancy getup and makeup and everything.

The comic focused on three characters in particular. Two of them are having a 100+ chapter slow burn. The other is their lesbian best friend. She's the type who will kick your door open and flop down on your bed, shoes be damned.

I love all of them and this comic is one of my favorites. It's so good.

Okay first of all: his name is Eros because he's from Mexico. That's it. That's all the bearing it has on the story. It has no affect on the content or rating.

Second: Eros is Catholic, and deals with internalized homophobia.

He's also violently depressed, largely as a result of childhood trauma, and a bit afraid that the gang that made his life hell is going to find this comic and try to punish him for it.

See, it's an author insert. His friend draws it for him. (The author himself prefers to be depicted as a chupacabra.)

Eros' love interest is Galen, a cheerful young man who's filthy rich and who lets others take advantage of him because he just wants from friends.

There's a noncon sleeping beauty moment at one point. Eros' roommate becomes livid the second he sees, he tells Galen off, and Galen apologizes. Eros is just like... Whatever. He's still going through some internal shit.

I mention that because it's going to be a deal breaker for some people, and it did make me uncomfortable, but part of the theme of this comic is unlearning things that are hurtful.

I think for a lot of us, the sleeping beauty imagery was glamorized first, and the knowledge of consent came after. So that's his deal.

One thing that I think is neat is that, most of the time when Eros speaks in Spanish, they provide an English translation along with it.

There's some slapstick slapping sometimes, Eros lost his parents due to poverty and severe illness, gangs show up in the flashback sequences, children go hungry, and there's homophobia involved.

Some people might get upset about the inclusion of this entry due to the warnings involved. I included them not so everyone can judge the creators, but so that people can have informed consent.

Overall, it's a really interesting story and I feel really protective of the artist. I hope they're doing well.

Mes lectures WEBTOON.

The only rule :

Lexie, jeune prof à l'université, voit sa vie voler en éclats quand elle découvre la tromperie de Matthew, son mari. Dévastée, elle sort noyer son chagrin avec sa meilleure amie, et se réveille le lendemain... dans le lit d'un inconnu ! Alors qu'elle pensait ne jamais le revoir, le destin en a décidé autrement.

Honey Honey Wedding :

Un jour, la lycéenne Shin Hae Su apprend qu'elle doit se marier pour sauver l'entreprise familiale. On ne lui laisse pas le choix du mari qui se trouve être son ancien professeur, Choi Hyuk Jun, héritier d'une famille concurrente et qui a 12 ans de plus qu'elle !

Réfractaire à cette idée, Shin Hae Su fini par accepter le mariage en passant un accord avec Choi Hyuk Jun. Le marché : le nouveau mari partira à l'étranger juste après le mariage (elle pourra ainsi vivre librement sans plus avoir à supporter sa famille qui l'ignore) et le couple sera divorcé dans 5 ans... Mais les choses vont-elles vraiment se passer aussi facilement ?

Le Dr. Matias Guevara s'occupe tranquillement de ses patients dans sa clinique médicale jusqu'au jour où le Dr. Fernando Guevera, vétérinaire, ouvre sa clinique juste à côté. Presque le même nom, presque la même profession ! La compétition s'installe et les deux adultes commencent à se chamailler pour tout et rien ! Cette rivalité apparente perdurera-t-elle ou finiront-ils par tisser des liens un peu plus... intimes ?

Mon anti-fan.

Lee Geun Young, une femme moderne, a du mal à joindre les deux bouts en travaillant comme une humble journaliste pour un magazine. Elle vit avec un ami et paye à peine son loyer chaque mois. D'un autre côté, le sex-symbol masculin Joon Hoo monte actuellement au sommet du monde : ses films deviennent des succès instantanés, les femmes l'adorent, son image publique reste impeccable ... Une nuit, il tombe sur Geun Young dans un club. Elle prend accidentellement une photo de Joon Hoo rejetant une jeune fille au cœur brisé. Il est prêt à tout pour protéger son image, forçant même le magazine de Geun Young à la licencier. Maintenant, malgré la perte de son emploi et de son appartement, la jeune femme intrépide a entrepris une nouvelle mission dans la vie : détruire Joon Hoo à tout prix.

Midnight Poppy Land.

Après avoir fait une macabre découverte en pleine campagne, la vie de Poppy une jeune rédactrice, se trouve mêlée à celle de Tora l'un des plus grands gangsters de la ville... Chaque nouveau pas l'entraîne toujours plus en plein cœur de l'organisation criminelle.

J’ai élevé une bête.

Blondina est une princesse au sang de roturier et pour cette raison elle a vécue dans un palais séparé et a toujours été traitée comme inférieur par la famille de son père. En se promenant elle tombe sur un chat blessé et elle décide de prendre soin de lui mais ce chat s'avère être autre chose... Elle a fait la rencontre d'Amon, et les deux vont très vite s'attacher l'un à l'autre. Blondina peut-elle enfin être heureuse ?

Boyfriends.

Le quotidien de jeunes garçons qui cherchent à se mettre en couple avec une personne - ou plusieurs.

L’impératrice remariée.

Impératrice de l'Empire de l'Est, tout était parfait pour Navier, jusqu'au jour où l'Empereur ramène une concubine, ancienne esclave, Rashta. Tout aurait pu rester parfait, mais l'Empereur promet à Rashta la place d'Impératrice. Alors Navier ne voit plus qu'une possibilité suite à sa demande de divorce: se remarier avec le roi du royaume de l'Ouest.

The Runway.

"L'homme avec qui j'ai passé la nuit est mon patron ?!"

Too Ji An, rédactrice en chef du magazine de mode The Runway part pour Paris et passe la nuit avec un homme rencontré au hasard... Trois mois plus tard, un rédacteur en chef de Manrep vient de France dans l'entreprise de Ji An. Mais cet homme... C'est le gars de France avec qui Ji An a passé la nuit !

I’am her dad.

Jae Han est un ancien créateur de webtoon qui a perdu sa vie suite à un accident de voiture. Mais cela ne l'as pas empêché de rester auprès de sa précieuse fille même après sa mort afin de la protéger. Un jour, il découvre que cette dernière se fait harceler au lycée, et voulant désespérément l'aider, il finit par prêter le corps d'un lycéen. Désormais, il est temps de montrer à ces harceleurs à qui ils ont affaire.
