Festivia my beloved you deserved better writing.
I would say I want a show on Festivia and her rise to the throne. I would say I want them to focus on the political consequences Festivia would have to bare due to Eclipsa's actions. I would say I want to see how the infamous party queen not only housed her entire kingdom but also gained their trust during a time the kingdom would be against the Butterflys. I would say I want to see Grunkle Justhin's influence on the young Festivia and how it mixes or contradicts with the Magical Commissions. I would say I want to see potential with Festivia and light magic. I would say all of that but I don't trust the writers not to screw Festivia over again.

Chapter 5: Stages of Grief
Summary:
Festivia struggles with her feelings about her mother in the wake of her father’s death
Notes; this is entirely from Festivia's perspective and processed with the information she was given. Thus this isn't as kind as I would usually be to Eclipsa and Globgor, and comes off as very insensitive to the reality Tivia doesn't know
EDIT: this doesn’t reflect on any verses except main and ghost btw!

This scene absolutely shattered my heart.
Star went from utter shock, to anger, and the feeling of betrayal in an instant.
The thought of her mother turning on her... her mom who she loves and looks up to... it was unbelievable. After all they had been through.
——————————————————————
This discussion is a bit lengthy so please bear with me:
Star and Moon’s mother-daughter relationship has always been complicated.
Star has mother issues (established in Season 1) and throughout the series we’ve watched them face problems and have different opinions on them, but at the same time we also watched their relationship grow stronger as seasons went on.
Moon was opening up to Star, trusting her more, believing in her, and it was beautiful.
Moments in episodes like Flag Day and Face the Music where Moon openly admitted this to Star was very moving and important for Star to hear. Her mom had faith in her.
Then we had the Battle For Mewni.
We saw how much Moon truly loves Star.
She would do anything to protect her daughter, even turning to dark magic to kill Toffee when thinking Toffee killed Star.
Moon and Star’s bond only grew stronger after this.
Now I’ll talk a bit about Moon and Eclipsa’s relationship:
In Stranger Danger, Star defended Eclipsa and hoped that Moon would change her ways and look at Eclipsa in a new light.
Moon was cautious, but during Total Eclipsa of the Moon she warmed up to Eclipsa to a degree, and in Butterfly Trap, Moon was angry at the MHC for lying and keeping the truth from them about Festivia and Meteora and supported the right for Eclipsa to be free.
After this it seemed like Moon bonded with Eclipsa and at least respected her...
Then, Tough Love happened.
The incident that Moon blames Eclipsa for.
Eclipsa fought off Moon, which caused Moon to go to the magic dimension in Divide/Conquer where she lost her memories, and after was sent to Pie Island with Moon not knowing who she was while also being separated from River and Star.
Star went through hell looking for Moon during these four episodes. Star’s entire mission was finding her mom. She refused to believe Moon was gone.
Their bond was incredibly strong at this point, and the thought of not having Moon around destroyed Star.
When Moon was found on Pie Island and went back to the Monster Temple, this is where the wariness started up again and Moon was not happy.
In Moon Remembers Moon outright told Star that she didn’t trust Eclipsa...
Which lead to her actions in Cornonation.
Star might not have seen eye to eye with Moon about her thoughts on Eclipsa but at the very least, was still craving Moon’s approval and wanted her to attend Eclipsa’s Coronation. Moon did, and Star was thrilled about it. She believed Moon went to support her, and that meant the world to Star.
(Turns out Moon also went so she could release Globgor from his crystal which was setting the plan into motion...)
When Eclipsa battled Moon in Tough Love, she was only doing to protect her daughter.
Despite Meteora’s raging attack on Mewni, Eclipsa still loved her and wanted to keep her safe, which if Moon was in Eclipsa’s situation she would’ve done the same thing.
THAT’S why this whole “betrayal” gets me.
Moon doesn’t think she’s betraying Star, or think she’s the villain.
Her face after Star screams “TRAITOR!” and blasts her with magic says it all. Moon is heartbroken that Star is fighting her.
Tumblr media
Moon genuinely thought she was doing the right thing. Protecting her family and kingdom by assisting Mina and getting rid of monsters.
She states that she knew what the plan looked like (as if Moon turned on everyone) but she explains that Mina was going to attack anyway, Moon wanted the wand and throne back so that Mewni could go back to the way it used to be, so Moon figured she could get what she wanted, while also letting Eclipsa, Globgor, and Meteora live and let them move to another dimension.
I don’t understand why Moon thought this whole scheme with Mina would solve anything.
Clearly it ended up all wrong, and inadvertently harmed Star in the process.
We know Mina is insane and is strictly loyal to Solaria meaning no matter who had the wand, Mina isn’t stopping until the monsters were officially gone.
Of course Star wasn’t going to stand by and let this happen, meaning she was in just as much danger as Eclipsa and her family.
I wish Moon would’ve realized that Mina wouldn’t have listened to reason.
Moon isn’t a villain. Her judgement is just misplaced.
She is thinking with her head over her heart.
She loves her family and would do anything for them, as well as taking care of her kingdom, but that exclusively means Mewmans only.
Moon isn’t the one who deserves the throne to Mewni.
Star is.
Star is Mewni’s savior.
If Moon wanted the throne back that badly, I feel, if she had a calm open discussion with Eclipsa, Eclipsa wouldn’t have had a problem going off to live a normal life. She says in The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse that her “whole life is a time like this” meaning chaos, and all she wants is to live peacefully with her husband and daughter.
Star is the one who will bring unity.
Star is accepting of everyone, she cares about monsters and mewmans, fights for what she wants, knows what she wants to fight for, she even has her love life figured out.
Eclipsa flat out said that Star is far more advanced than Moon and Eclipsa were (or any of the others queens, really) at her age, which is true.
If Moon puts her complete faith and trust in her daughter, things will change for the better.
It will take time, but their relationship can mend.
Star the Underestimated will prevail. She will earn her crown, keep her magic, bring peace to her home where monsters and mewmans can live in harmony, and Star herself can live happily ever after with the love of her life.

Something that gets on my nerves regarding how people treat Meteora vs. Festivia
Listen, I understand what Meteora has been through. Being ripped away from her parents as well as her birthright, abused and tormented in foster care, and then growing up to be the bitter headmistress of the very place that was essentially her own living hell. But what I don't understand is why people shit on Festivia so much, saying "Ohhh, she usurped the throne, she's a terrible queen, she ruined the kingdom, Eclipsa and Globgor would hate her because she replaced their precious Meteora!". Even when people do have some sympathy for Festi, they still seem to favor Meteora more simply because she's the "true" daughter and heir of Eclipsa, the last queen of "true" Butterfly monarchy.
First of all, we barely know anything about Festivia and her childhood from a wide-angle perspective, so we can't jump to conclusions based on what little we do know about her. For all we know, she could have faced abuse just like Meteora had when left alone with her “father". And I betcha that if there wasn't anyone to inspire her to be happy (i.e. Jushtin), she may have turned into a "Miss Heinous" herself to some degree. And to add further insult to injury: Festivia literally had no one to call her "true" family. Her biological parents probably abandoned her, and everything else was historically fabricated.
I would also like to point out that even though Meteora is now a newly reborn baby with no memory of the past, it doesn’t excuse her actions as Miss Heinous, and especially during the episode “Skooled!” where she discovers the truth about her heritage and goes on a rampage to “take back what was hers” over the next few episodes up to the season finale. Having a sympathetic background doesn’t excuse the terrible shit she did, so people need to stop treating her like she’s a “precious, perfect angel” just because she had a bad childhood (and didn’t she technically lose the right to the throne anyway after Eclipsa peaced out?). Note that I’m not trying to demonize Meteora here, I’m just pointing out that she has flaws like everyone else, and that being the “rightful heir” to the throne doesn’t make you better than the “new” monarchy (as we’ve seen with Skywynne’s sexism towards her own son, and how he was replaced with his extremely genocidal sister).
It would be far-fetched to say that Eclipsa and Globgor would harbor any negative feelings towards Festivia, since they don’t seem like the kind of people that would hate on somebody they don’t know, even if that person was the one who “replaced” their daughter--because knowing that the two girls were only babies when they were swapped, Festivia probably didn’t even realize that she was replacing anyone. It wasn’t her fault that Meteora was raised in an abusive foster home, so it doesn’t seem feasible to point fingers at her or associate her with “ruining” the life of somebody she didn’t know existed. You can't really resent someone if they had no clue what was happening behind the scenes in the first place.
We even saw how saddened Eclipsa looked when Star found out that they weren’t related, and Star is descended from Festivia. So with that in mind, I doubt Eclipsa would show any less compassion to Festivia herself.
A part of me is kind of peeved that there wasn’t any resolve between Festivia and Eclipsa before they destroyed the Realm of Magic in the series finale. Even though the competition to the throne doesn’t matter anymore since the Butterfly monarchy seemed to have collapsed now that magic is gone, we don’t know if the ghosts of the past queens can even interact with the living world anymore. Because honestly, Festivia at least deserved an apology (for being dragged into a life that she didn’t ask to have, for having to be raised by King Shit-stacan, for being told the lie that both of her “parents” were eaten by monsters to further push the racism against them, etc).
Remember that Meteora got a second chance to live her life as it “should”. Festivia did not, and she might never get the closure she desperately needs.
It’s hard to really call Festivia a “usurper” when, really, it was the MHC who orchestrated this whole scandal. They may have made Festivia queen, but in truth, she was just another pawn in their game of racism and cultural segregation. Festivia may have been the starring clown of this freakshow, but the MHC were the ringmasters.
So yeah, I’m just sick and tired of one being victimized more than the other solely because of their origin. Both of the girls were wronged, and the only ones who are truly to blame are the ones who swapped them in the first place.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Tough Love: Oh man, it’s happening! It’s happening guys here we go!

So I got The Magic Book of Spells for Christmas
And I love it! It’s so well written and I love learning about the history of Mewni and getting to know the past queens. Some thoughts.
1. I quite like Skywynne’s chapter. She tries her best to be a good queen, but the pressure gets to her and she goes to some dark places. Luckily she comes out of it and at the end of her chapter she is happier and a better queen. Happy endings are kinda rare in this book.
2. I was glad Jushtin’s chapter was short as I didn’t want to look at his chicken-scratch handwriting for much longer, but he deserved better than to have his title and wand taken away in favor of his sister. Especially given what we find out about her later. A lot of lives could’ve been saved if they kept Jushtin on the throne, just saying.
3. Solaria just scared me, she’s basically advocating genocide. And that spell of her’s that would’ve wiped out all non-mewmans? *Shudder*. Thank goodness she never finished it.
4. At least now we know why Mina Loveberry is “like that”. I have to wonder though, is her being crazy a result of the super-soldier spell or was it the result of all of the bloodshed she’s seen? And how is she still alive all these years later? Is that part of the spell too? Are all the Solarian soldiers still alive?
5. I think Star’s right about Eclipsa’s chapter, it’s not that big a deal. Some of her spells are a little dark, yes, and I wouldn’t use them personally (except maybe the body swap spell), but plenty of other queens used dark spells (Skywynne’s “exploding dimensions” spell comes to mind.) and their chapters aren’t banned. I think the MHC only marked her chapter as “forbidden” due to the monster dateability scale. (Which I got a kick out of.) Honestly, given who her mother is, I’m surprised that Eclipsa turned out as nice as she did. She’s a little selfish, yes, but her chapter showed that she did have at least some struggle about leaving her kingdom. I still think Eclipsa is on the side of good, and I like her.
5. So I was right, Festivia really didn’t know that she wasn’t actually royalty. And the drink mixes that were included in her chapter? Yes please.
6. Dirhhennia clearly has some mental issues that she needs to get help for. Instead her family (especially her sister) just pick on her all the time. I feel bad for her. I’m glad she found a nice boyfriend though.
7. Crescenta just unnerved me. She’s all smiles and pink and bunnies but underneath she is cold, manipulative, and ruthless. I wanted to like her so bad because she’s a lesbian who dated a mermaid which is just #goals, but other than that she’s just pure evil. A shame that the one lesbian queen turns out to be a bitch, not sure if I like the implications of that.
8. I, like everyone else, believe that Rhina is asexual. I feel bad for her too, her story is quite sad.
9. Celena is my girl and I love her. Reminds me of myself. Her spells are written like more traditional wicca spells so I can actually use them myself. Yay! She also has a tarot spread that I am going to try to learn asap.
10. Not much to say about Estrella, she is quite a talented artist.
11. Comet was legit a great queen and a great mom. Probably the only one without any hang ups. She was killed way too soon.
12. Not much to learn about Moon that I didn’t already know. Her pet pig-goat Lil Chauncy is just adorable though.
13. I did always wonder where Star got her headband. Wonder why she kept wearing it after breaking up with Tom though.

Only the Beginning
When the Doctor and Rose kissed under the mistletoe, a future full of kisses opened up to them.
Nine x Rose
This is for @doctorroseprompts 31 Days of Ficmas, using the word, “mistletoe.” This is day 11 on my personal 31 Days of Ficmas.
This is also for a prompt from @chiaroscuroverse, who sent me a holiday prompt last year asking for “Nine casually maneuvering Jack away from the mistletoe, though not necessarily meaning to steal a kiss from Rose for himself, but now it's happening... ;);)” I had to adjust it just the tiniest bit to get it to work in my headcanon, but mostly, this is exactly what you asked for.
AO3 | FF
The Doctor rolled his eyes as Jack let yet another local pull him under the mistletoe. By his count, the captain had been kissed fifteen times in the last twenty minutes, which had to be some kind of record—even for Festivia’s Mistletopia. Jack winked at him over the broad shoulder of the blond man he was currently engaged with, and the Doctor chuckled.
His gaze wandered to the dance floor, where Rose was spinning around the room with a young woman. He was too far away to see the sparkle in her brown eyes, but he could easily imagine it.
Rose threw her head back and laughed in response to something the woman said, and the Doctor felt his hearts clench. Seeing Rose happy was all he’d wanted since the day he’d met her.
For months, he’d tried to keep his feelings for her under wraps, hiding behind words like, “Considering that you’re human.” He’d told himself Rose wouldn’t want a damaged soldier like him, that she deserved better.
But recently, things had started to shift between them. He remembered the conversation and the dance in the basement of the hospital, and the willing way Rose had curved into his arms.
The Doctor closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Rose had been shooting him glances across the room all night, and he didn’t think he was imagining the hope in her eyes. And if he was, well… kissing under the mistletoe offered a certain amount of protection. If she laughed it off as being just tradition, he didn’t have to tell her it had meant more to him.
It took him a few seconds to find Rose again when he opened his eyes, and when he did, he immediately set out across the room. Rose was only a few feet away from a bunch of mistletoe, and Jack Harkness was working his way towards her.
The Doctor reached Rose seconds before Jack. He reached for her hand and pulled her close, ignoring the smirk on Jack’s face as he did.
“I just wanted to let the two of you know that I learned about another version of this event with… racier overtones. Some of my new friends and I are going to check it out, so don’t wait up.”
Rose laughed as Jack sauntered off. “Of course Jack found a festive orgy.” She turned towards the Doctor and put her other hand on his arm, leaning into him slightly. “You sure got here quick when you saw him coming towards me. Captain envy again, Doctor?”
The feel of her hand on his arm and the challenge in her eyes gave the Doctor the last bit of courage he needed. He put a hand on her waist and spun them until they were beneath the nearest bunch of mistletoe.
The Doctor looked up at the ceiling significantly, not wanting Rose to miss where they were. “Been planning to get you alone all night.”
He felt her breath hitch and she placed her hands on his chest. “Yeah?” she breathed.
“Yep.”
She bit her lip. “Because a mistletoe kiss is tradition?”
The Doctor shook his head. “No. Because I want to kiss you.” He watched her carefully, saw her eyes dilate. “That all right with you, Rose Tyler?”
She swayed closer to him and licked her lips. “Yeah.”
The Doctor smiled, then leaned down slowly, closing the distance between them. He saw Rose’s eyes flutter closed, then he bumped his nose against hers, getting a soft giggle in response.
To his surprise, she wrapped her hands around the lapels of his leather coat and pulled him down as she pushed up on her toes.
When Rose’s lips touched his, the Doctor felt timelines expand. Potential future kisses opened up, leading their relationship along paths he never thought he’d get to explore with Rose.
One kiss just over the horizon glowed a brilliant gold. It was tempting to take a peek at it, to see what was coming in his future.
Instead, he turned away from the timelines and focused on the woman in his arms and the softness of her lips. Kissing Rose was everything he’d ever wanted it to be, and this was only the beginning.

I'm just gonna say it. If you have to throw a character (A) under the bus, doesn't matter how big their role is, to get your audience to sympathize for another character (B) who has activley made horrible decisions to the point where your audience does not like them but YOU favor them then that's bad writing.
To me this is a subcategory of fridging. You find it easier to demonize character A instead of fixing and developing character B. You add a sad backstory for B that includes A being the persecutor. This turns the audience against A and all of a sudden all the bad shit B has done and actively still does with no indication of changing is thrown under the rug. A is now the villain and B is going to get an unearned/unwanted/undeserved HEA. But before A was a generally a good person and these new pieces are not fitting to what we already know about them.
That is bad writing. You added nothing to A's story, just demonized them, even if they didn't actaully do it, to uplift B's story. A deserves better and B deserves to actually go through a redemption, messy parts included.
Quit with the lazy writing your characters deserve more from you.

I'm back on my Festivia salt train!
We can all agree the pie people reveal was some bullshit right? Like you guys really made her come from thieves and conman trying to say that FESTIVIA, WHO WAS A BABY DURING THE SWITCH AND RAISED ON LIES conned the kingdom. Really? Of all these other magical beings you could have chosen you went with that? Like at this point the writers were just rubbing salt into the wound of what they did to Festivia.
You know what have been more interesting? Make Festivia the daughter of a fae/nymph woman.
It would fit so well to have Festivia be like a changeling daughter of a nymph.
We now have a reason why Festivia was chosen besides being abandoned/sold to the Magical High Commission. She would easily transform into the person she was replacing, or a family member for her to look like. We now know why she resembles Justhin so much, and she would've been able to accept the wand's magic easier because she herself already had some magic through her fairie mother.
Plus her horns can be real!
Also wild, party girl Festivia, with her tall build and strong charisma. With two daughters, one enjoying music and the other enjoying rules that she made. Festivia was definitely part fae.
Then we can also keep Festivia's greek aesthetic with a nymph mother. And if you really want to add to her Dionysus aesthetic she could be the daughter of a maenad.
If anyone is curious the Maenad were Dionysus' female followers of both nymphs and mortals. They commonly known for their role in the play the Bacchae. These women were sexually free and free of social hierarchies. They were said to run wild in the forests preparing and drinking Dionysus' wine. It was said that they were often in an ecstatic intoxication or were simply called mad women and their ceremonies were considered "strange."
Now tone that behavior down for a children's show and we got Festivia. I honestly think having Star see her matriarchal line come from this type of back ground or one closer to fae society and then seeing hints of either type of society in Festivia would have a better impact than what we go with the pie folk. Pie folk felt like they were beating a dead horse, with this it feels like Star can explore a part of herself that's been there since the begining and we could possibly get a better understanding for Festivia.
Like I said anything would be better than the pie folk.
Wait a minute. The fae are also called the fair folk. Pie folk, fair folk, pie folk, fair folk. Excuse me I'm gonna go fight the writers because that's just rude.

It's 2022 and I'm still salty at how Festivia was used for plot convince, and force sympathy on a unsympathetic character. Then the writers throw her away with no resolution to her story or her character. Like what? No finish that arch, especially after you all revealed the queens' ghosts.
Like it almost feels like they fridged Festivia.
Hey you know instead of making Mina the final bad guy you know what y'all could've done? We could have gotten a pissed off Festivia haunting Mewni. No magic affects her because she has no body, she's a magical, pissed off spirit. Plus she was a queen of Mewni, she knows how the magic works.
Festivia hides in the magical realm between her hauntings so it makes it almost impossible to take the fight to her.
When asked for advice Glossaryk just floats like the lazy bum he is. "Hm, but you already know how to destroy magic."
Marco tried to talk to Star. "Is destroying her ghost really the only way to stop her? If Eclipsa and Meteora get a second chance why can't we give one to Festivia?"
Justhin stops them before they can attempt the whispering spell for the first time. Festivia escapes back to the realm of magic. "You mean to tell me you weren't hurt when you found out everything you believed your whole life was a lie? You weren't hurt when you found out you could have had a different life than the one forced upon you? You expect Festivia to be ok learning everything she lived for, all those feelings she had, everything that made her who she was was just politics trying to morph her into their puppet?"
Like the queen she is Star steps back, and she observes Festivia. Star sees the tears that Festivia won't let fall. She sees that while the Magic High Commission and both sets of Butterfly families are bombarded by attacks, everyone else mewman and monster was left alone. She listens to Festivia's wordless screams.
Festivia is angry, but she's also in pain. It's almost fair to say she's devastated.
At midseason Star tracks where Festivia would attack next. With her is Marco and Meteora. Festivia appears, but she only watches the trio in front of her.
"Queen Festivia the Fun, we wish to parley!"
Festivia floats down, table, chairs and a high chair appearing.
For the first time Festivia speaks. "Very well, I was always better at negotiating anyway."
Star, Marco, and Meteora hear the story once more, but this time from a side that has been tricked into silence for too long, Festivia's. At some point Meteora crawled over to Festivia who plopped her into her ghostly lap.
"To start, I never knew about the switch until now. I was sold to the Commission to replace Meteora. They raised me while I believed my parents were eaten by a monster. Grunkle Justhin raised me for a time too, he even taught me the whispering spell." Festivia pauses to take a breath. "We were at war with monsters my whole life, and there was a threat of a coup for all of my childhood. I had surrvied a few assassination attempts. Hekappo took me to travel for my saftey after an assassin got too close when I was twelve. We traveled for two years. Then when I was fourteen they officially crowned me queen, despite the title and wand being in my posession longer than I could remember. The war got worse, I sheltered every citizen. Distracted them with parties so they would be happy. I reestablished trust in the Butterfly family."
Festivia stops herself again. "I wasn't perfect, no queen was, but I didn't ask to be thrown into this life. I never asked for magic or crowns. I just wanted my family and to be happy, but I guess I never got those either."
Moon and Eclipsa interrupt with accusations and an attempted whispering spell. It sends Festivia back into attack mode.
The rest of the season shows various episodes of Star and Meteora helping Festivia heal and in turn she helps heal a part of themselves that this switch affected. Meanwhile Festivia, Moon, and Eclipsa are still at conflict. Star tries to get the two women into talking with Festivia.
Several other of the ghosts show up to talk too. Moon and Eclipsa have heart to hearts with their mothers. Star and Marco have a big discussion with Dirhhennia and Crescenta, who have already sorted out their issues with their mother in the ghostly plane.
We see Moon and Eclipsa slowly get conflicting thoughts. They get worse every time Festivia is with their daughters and doesn't attack tthem. They're still set on stopping Festivia via whispering spell.
It all comes to head in the season/show finale in the realm of magic. Mothers vs daughters in the battle over Festivia's fate.
It's here where Festivia speaks to Eclipsa for the first time.
"You know the worst part about this is that I still love you, a complete stranger who wouldn't hesitate to use the whispering spell on me. I still love a lie."
Eclipsa stops, Moon stops. They stop using their magic to hurt, and they start using it to heal.
They talk, they scream, they heal.
"I'm sorry you never got the parents or the childhood you wished for." Eclipsa tries to embrace Festivia, she's surprised when Festivia let's her.
Festivia cries, she cries for that little girl who was given a crown but only wanted a family. She cries for the girl who was only ever told lies. Festivia gets the resolution and closure the writers cheated her out of before. Moon, Eclipsa, Star, and Meteora all are in a better place for it too.
It ends with Festivia reuniting with her own daughters.
(And if we have to destroy the magic then that can be done too with Festivia showing the living Butterflys where the core of the magic is, and then joining the spell.)

You know this has been on my mind since I started rewatching SvtFoE, so here's a hot take, Meteora did not deserve a second chance or redemption, and Festivia deserved better.
As Miss Heinous she had abused and stolen from girls at St Olgas for centuries. She hired a bounty hunter to kill Marco, she stole life energy from Mewmans and put them in a coma when she went to "take back" the throne of Mewni. She was defeated by Star and Eclipsa, in a regular story Meteora would have died and thst would be it. She had no desire to redeem herself, and acted as the villian till the end.
Also before I hear "well she's Eclipsa's true daughter" or "she was an abuse victim!" I'm going to say something about that right now.
First, YOUR PAST TRAUMA IS NO EXCUSE FOR YOUR PRESENT ABUSE ON OTHERS, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN WHEN YOU ARE A GROWN ASS ADULT. Meteora was a teacher in higher power than these girls and she abused that. I will not have a female Snape being excused on my blog no sir/ma'am.
Second, Eclipsa abdicated the throne, meaning she gave up all right for her and her decendants to rule Mewni. The Magical High Commission could honestly do as they saw fit. Was it right? No, but their ruler abandoned the kingdom, that put them and the King in charge. And honestly it proved the orginal line was nothing special. They just had a longer time with the wand and more time to grow. Given time and I bet Festivia's line would have been just as if not more powerful. Star was already close to an equal levels in strength with Eclipsa as stated by Baby and Eclipsa couldn't do wandless magic. How much more powerful do you think Star would have been had she had the same amount of years of training and experince as Eclipsa? I'm pretty sure she would surpass Eclipsa.
Now going onto why Meteora was given a do over, it wasn't for her. It was Eclipsa's do over. The whole second half of that season was Eclipsa's second chance, she wanted her child and husband back and she got it. She didn't want a second chance at ruling Mewni but she got it, and I beleive she shouldn't have gotten that either. It still felt like Star was ruling for most of it until she forced Eclipsa to start thinking for others and not just herself.
As to why I believe Festivia deserved better, one she was deceived and manipulated her whole life into believing her parents died by being eaten by a monster, that's also abuse if you couldn't tell. And given what the potential political consequences of Eclipsa's previous actions were it is safe to assume that Festivia had to work her ass off to swing Mewmans back into liking the Butterfly family when she started actively ruling, which she succeeded in. I'm not surprised she didn't care for the monsters all that much, to her they were an enemy of her grandmother, they ate her parents, and for as long she could remember the mewnans were at war with the monsters. Maybe she did want change, but she had things she needed to take care of on the home front so it was a hope that the generations after her would be better. She did what she knew best, what she was taught, and manipulated into believing from childhood. But go ahead show writers, tell me how she was nothing more than scum because she was born to a pie folk, even though she was with them for a year or less, and she managed to become a beloved queen.
Being parallels to each other, I believe Festivia should have gotten the second chance Meteora got, or the very least gave Festivia a more than deserved apology. It honestly wouldn't be that hard to keep her alive too, just have her dimension hop. She stays 50-70 years in one dimension, hops to another, and keeps doing that because your age changes by the dimensions. Hell Festivia could have stayed in a dimension for an hour and 300 years passes on Mewni. The show already said time flows differently between dimensions.
To recap Meteora was a villain until her end where she became Eclipsa's do over, as shown by the writer's favortism, and Festivia was tossed around as plot convince and never even got an apology or the proper character depths she deserved.

Jushtin really does deserve better. Here's hoping he gets reincarnated and can have his own throne that doesn't require him to live up to Mewni's ridiculous standards about being queen.
Tumblr media
//Festivia may be the light of my life but this always has been and always will be a Jushtin Butterfly support blog and I will always love him.

//Before I get an ask about this confusion my take on the universe means Solaria didn’t have a brother, Jushtin was Festivia’s son and he was the father of Crescenta and Dirhennia.
In part because I felt Jushtin deserved better than to be replaced by a sister because his mom didn’t believe in him and in part cause I have a hard time seeing Festivia as Cres and Dir’s mom with the way she was raised.
