Has this been done yet? Probably.
Tried to use language that's inclusive of alterhumans who are still human.

Fictionfolk doesn't include just fictionkin. It doesn't include just fictionkin and fictives. Lots of "fictionfolk isn't just fictionkin, fictives are valid too!" but I never see:
Fictionflickerers are fictionfolk, even if they don't have a permanent identity. People with fictional world hearthomes are fictionfolk, even if they're never a specific character. Fictherians are fictionfolk, even if they're a member of a species and not a specific animal character.

Honestly I love the alterhuman community because even in smaller subcultures you have WILDLY different experiences yet everyone finds solidarity among each other. It's so cool to see how diverse the world can be yk

Daily Sermon #33
Lamb wants to talk about the alterhuman community. I know I preach a lot about anti-discrimination, but it's a very important topic.
There has been so many times where I hear transphobes saying "I identify as (object/animal/famous person)" to mock trans people. Then trans people often start hating the alterhuman community because of that.
They say we're the reason the trans community isn't taken seriously.
I'm not gonna lie, if someone can't tell the difference between identifying as a gender vs. identifying as a species, they weren't going to take you seriously in the first place.
The alterhuman community does not exist for people to 'take us seriously', a lot of us know they won't and a lot of us try to either fix that or ignore it. We exist because that's who we are. And life is too short to hide who we are our whole lives.
And then there's the hate within our own community. Unfortunately, some otherkin try to discredit and exclude those who are objectkin or fictionkin. Basically, those who experience their identity differently.
Please, let's not start dividing ourselves. I've said this before, there's no sense in minorities dividing other minorities. We should stick together because we go through similar struggles.
Especially when it comes to the alterhuman community. It doesn't matter if you're a wolf or a cat or a dragon or a doll or an Argonian or whatever, we all look like the same stupid kids to everyone else.
We are who we are. Let's not try to dictate how others can identify. We are real and we're all valid.
I mean, I identify as a werewolf, an ice dragon, a raccoon, a parrot and Lamb. I'm certainly in no place to tell someone their identity is ridiculous.
I welcome all identities. I've said it before and I'll say it forever.

Fictionfolk
"Fictionfolk is an umbrella term for many sorts of identities that come partly or wholly from fiction. Fictionkin identify as characters or species from fiction, and their community started in the early 2000s. A plural system member with origins from fiction is a fictive, which psychologists call a fictional introject. When someone has the brief experience of becoming someone or something from fiction, that’s a fictionflicker, which psychologists call experience-taking."
- Excerpt from "A list of some alterhuman identities and groups," by Orion Scribner, House of Chimeras, Page Shepard, Dinocanid, Ryuu Yumemoto, Draconic Wizard Workshop, and others, 2023.

Icosahuman / Multialtertype
Tumblr media
A term for an alterhuman who identifies with their alterhuman identity in many or all of the possible ways.
Examples of identities which may be icosahuman:
Lacking personal distinction between types of alterhumanity.
Having multiple interpretations of one's alterhumanity.
Being both kin and copinglink due to clinging to one's kin as a coping mechanism.
Being a fictive or extranthrope who also identifies with other alterhuman terminology.
An alterhuman with fluidity in their type of identity, such as sometimes being kin and sometimes being hearted.
And more!
It is intended for those who are multiple kinds of alterhuman regarding a single identity (ex. being foxkin and a fox copinglink), rather than those who have multiple alterhuman identities of different types. Someone with multiple alterhuman identities who has singular identities of multiple types is also included.
-----
Please don't do alterhuman discourse on this post. People have varied experiences regarding their identity and restricting people to one category for the sake of protecting the label does no one favors.
[PT above: Please don't do alterhuman discourse on this post. /End]

Fictionflicker culture is not being able to tell if you're just really really hyper focused on a character or if it's a new identity

i saw an older post of urs taking about alterhuman stuff and you talked about something called a flicker and i was wondering what that means
I'd be glad to answer that! Flicker is short for "fictionflicker." A fictionflickerer is someone who takes on temporary identities as fictional characters when engaging with media. These identities are as strong as fictotypes, and they are not identify-with like a heartedtype, but identify-as, so for the duration of the flicker, that person is that character the way a fictionkin of them might be. The difference is that the flicker usually goes away eventually once you leave behind the media, while a fictotype is permanent. Flickers can be recurring (every time you engage with that media) or one-time.
For example, I have a recurring fictionflicker; every time I watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, I flicker Alphonse. While I'm watching the show, I am Alphonse the way one would be if he was their fictotype. But when I finish the show, the feeling goes away eventually -- it can take up to a few months, but it does go away. In contrast, I am also fictionkin -- I'm Link, from the Legend of Zelda, and this is a permanent identity where my engagement with Zelda media has no bearing on its intensity or meaningfulness to me.
This is a really central part of my alterhuman identity, flickers can be very big parts of your life. A flicker doesn't just become meaningless to you once it goes away; I still have parts of my lifestyle and personality that were influenced by flickers from years ago.

it's so bizarre seeing people say that a fictional character is so them but when someone says that they're that fictional character suddenly it's so wrong.
like when people say they "kin" a character but when we are talking about otherKIN suddenly it's weird.

Another thing that people don't really talk about with fictionflickers is how fucking lost you can feel when they end, especially really strong ones. Even if yours aren't the sort you lose entirely, it fucking sucks when things that were starting to feel like bedrock parts of yourself just...go away.
