here's a snippet from my famous!buck, army!eddie au that i know some ppl are excited about jsjsjs

Eddie Diaz is not someone that is stuck in the past, he would like that on the record. He has an okay life— he has a son, a wife and a purpose. And sure, maybe this is not how he would've pictured his life being, and maybe his marriage is kind of a ticking bb just waiting to explode in his face, but looking back? Wishing to turn back time or thinking about the what ifs? What he would've done differently if he had known better? That's just a waste of time, fruitless, ends in nothing but regret and a sense of powerlessness swallowing him whole. So, he doesn't dwell on the past. He really doesn't. But, there is one exception. Evan Buckley. They went to high school together, they were best friends— joined by the hip. Buck (that's how Evan's closest friends would call him, and by closest friends he means Eddie and the guy's sister) didn't have the best parents and he would spend every second humanly possible at Eddie's house. They would lay on Eddie's bedroom floor, staring at the ceiling, and talk about everything— what they wanted to be in the future, their fears, their dreams, gossip about the people in their school, what teacher was cool and which one wasn't. Or, Buck would help him play pranks on Eddie's sisters. The thing is, there was a time where Evan Buckley meant everything to him. He was his person. And maybe, Eddie'd been a little bit in love with him. Just the tiniest bit. He never said anything, though. He let fear stop him from saying the words, for taking the risk. And then, after graduation, Eddie's family moved back to Texas, Buck left town and they never really saw each other again. They texted for a bit but soon enough that stopped as well. Eddie isn't really sure why. He doesn't really like to think about it. Except— Well, Buck is famous. Like, really, stupidly famous. So he knows that Buck looks a little bigger now, with broad shoulders and huge arms, but the still kind and bright smile he's always had. He knows Buck is doing well, that he's a little happier now than he was back in high school and that being a celebrity just comes natural to him. He's charismatic and funny and charming and everyone loves him, how could they not? And Eddie wishes he could talk to him, tell him how proud he is of how far Buck's come. But he can't. They're strangers now. He's not sure Buck even remembers him. So instead he just keeps track of Buck as best he can without feeling like a creep.

Fuck It Friday

It's still Friday on my coast! So I'll drop a little snippet of Kinkley "first" date struggles. Not exactly a spec-fic because I don't think this will happen, I just wanted to write something sweet for Buck with a tiny plot line of him not being ready to come out (and that's okay!!!)

Their second attempt at a date almost didn’t even start. Buck had double booked himself, promising Maddie that he could babysit Jee for a few hours while she and Chimney picked up extra shifts. They were saving as much money as possible for the wedding, he knew that before he even got the text two days before. He just happened to remember he had other plans for that Friday night when he got a text – just as he was sitting down at the kitchen table with his niece for dinner.

Instead of going out to the bowling alley, like they’d discussed through their text messages for almost the entire week until they both got too busy with work, they spent the evening in. It had felt rude to cancel, but it wasn’t like he could bring a toddler to a date. Maddie would kill him without hesitation if he blinked at the wrong time and Jee crushed her finger under a bowling ball, or something equally as unlikely. It was better to just not risk it. 

Buck still felt bad, lingering in the doorway for their goodbyes and the single kiss that he didn’t mind becoming a tradition. He felt like a teenager, kicking his date out before some adult could get home and catch them, even if there wasn’t anything going on. But there were still too many feelings rolling in his chest, too many words and labels stuck in his head, and he hadn’t even told anyone he might not just be interested in women anymore. It wouldn’t exactly go over well if Maddie showed up to pick up her daughter only to find him blushing and laughing on the couch like the only thing that mattered was a glimmer of his date’s attention. 

So, they ended the night like the first, with quiet apologies and a kiss and a promise of more.

The Citizen Shop.

J&G Innes (a.k.a. “The Citizen Shop”) is a bookshop in St Andrews with a rich history spanning over 3 centuries. It was bought by the Innes firm in 1927 after John Innes, founder of the St Andrews Citizen newspaper, purchased the printing and publishing business of the Tullis family in 1879.

The Tullis family also had deep ties with the University having, among many other things, made donations to Mathematics prizes. Prior to its purchase, the building once housed Baillie Bell, co-worker of Alexander Wilson (one of the first type-founders in Scotland, and recognized in astronomy for his observatory work on sunspots) and John Baine (credited by some to have owned the Philadelphia type-foundry in which the dollar-sign [$] was first cast in the 1790’s).

This bookshop was the first in Scotland to use a printing process involving amalgams of noble metals – the newest printing innovation of the early 1900's. After the interview where Buck talks about his first love and how that shaped his relationships moving forward, everyone is dying to know more details.

Most importantly, who was he talking about?

He gets asked about it in every interview about it and he trends on twitter at least once a week every time an old high school partner comes forward to claim he was talking about them.

They're all lying, though. Eddie knows they're bluffing, trying to get their five minutes of fame.
