The Spores
Kirishima x Reader
2: ᴋɪᴅɴᴀᴘᴘᴇᴅ; ʜɪꜱ ᴘᴀꜱᴛ
A Zombie Apocalypse AU. Just a little idea I had. I’ll be writing a total of 3 parts (subject to change,) but anyways here’s the second :) I hope you enjoy it.
The next few hours over to the West District were certainly much livelier than before. Indeed, Kirishima was like the physical embodiment of a golden retriever. His optimism and charisma was contagious, but damn you if you weren’t looking for a cure.
At least Mateo seemed to have cheered up. You were trying your best to allow the anger and sadness eat you alive, but Kirishima was unknowingly beating away your negative emotions with his stupid jokes and his ability to get along with others.
Damn him.
When you finally arrived at the West District after 2 hours, you paid the entrance fee and made your way inside. You decided to trust Kirishima and have him take 25$ and look for a hotel for you all to stay at. You took Mateo to the nearby pawn shop to look for something interesting for him for his birthday.
The West District is a shopping district of sorts; weaponry, food, armor, car parts, gun parts, and other sorts of odds and ends can be found here. That’s why it was one of the most crowded and most populated Districts. That’s also what made it incredibly easy to be stolen. You had Mateo hold your hand the entire time, lest he or you be stolen.
Before you all separated, you swallowed your feelings and opened the car trunk. Your mother’s shotgun was entirely normal. As a matter of fact, the only identifying factor was a Sakura flower keychain hanging from it. You frowned before handing it over to Kirishima, along with some crumpled up currency.
“If you lose this, you’ll be getting the shit beat out of you twice today,” you growled before firmly placing the gun in Kirishima’s hands.
He gulped and nodded, “Of course. It wouldn’t be very manly of me to lose someone else’s property. I’ll be sure to return it to you, safe and sound.”
“Look…when you’re done, we’ll be at one of the pawn shops. I don’t have a phone, and I assume yours got stolen, if you had one at all-”
Strangely, Kirishima didn’t clarify if he had a phone at all to begin with.
“-So just look around. All the pawn shops are clumped together anyway.”
“Okay!” He said with a bright smile. “See you soon!”
You weren’t sure why you were trusting him so much. There was just something so….likable about him. You weren’t sure what though.
Keeping a firm grip on Mateo, you both managed to safely make your way to the pawn shop section of the District. You settled on the first one that you saw, a shabby little shop called Lucky’s Pawn Shop, and followed Mateo around as he looked for another sticker or color of spray paint. (Mateo loved to vandalize buildings, and seeing as how they were all one boring color, you allowed it. No one really cared anyway.)
The entire pawn shop was filled with odd things. All four walls had shelves full of gears, books, broken and whole toys, candle sticks, and other things. The floorspace was taken up by tables and desks of equally odd things. Mangas, comics, novels, old action figures and other such things filled the store.
After about 30 minutes of “I like this color, (Y/N)!” “No, that color’s ugly. Pick another one.” And “Check out this cool sticker, isn’t it from that show you used to watch?” “Yes, but today’s for you. Pick something you want,” Kirishima came bounding into the shop, and seemed genuinely insulted that you were surprised to see him again.
“What? Did you think I was gonna steal from the people who did me a favor? What kind of unmanly scum do you take me for?” He crossed his arms and was very huffy about the whole thing. You found it endearing.
You laughed, “Sorry, sorry. At least you’re back now. Why don’t you help Mateo pick out a color? He’s been struggling and frankly all the colors he picks are lowkey ugly,” you said, pointing at the shelf of half used and cap less spray paint cans.
There were quite a few shades at this shop, which was sort of uncommon.
“Hmm…how about this super cool red, little bro?” Kirishima grinned, pointing at a fiery shade of crimson.
You sighed. You should have known he’d go for some shade of red.
“Oh! I like it. I only have orange and yellow, so I needed a red anyway. Can I get it, (Y/N)?”
“Fine. At least it wasn’t that throw up shade of green,” you mumbled before taking the can in one hand and Mateo’s in the other.
“It’s called ARMY GREEN!” He exclaimed in and exasperated tone.
You winked at Kirishima, he smiled and his cheeks flushed slightly pink.
“Yeah yeah whatever. Army green, throw up green, same difference. It’s all green. Ugly colors regardless.”
Mateo shot you a look before you set the can on the front counter. An old woman was bent over so she didn’t see you right away. When you cleared your throat to get her attention, she bumped her head under the desk and let out a series of curses before lifting her head up, one robotic arm rubbing the spot where she had hurt herself, and the other gripping the counter for support.
This woman had the wildest white hair you had ever seen. She wore a pair of googles on her head, which had a wire coming out of it and trailing in the floor. She blinked a few times, before smiling kindly.
“Oh hello there. Is this all you wanted,” she asked examining the can before looking back at you.
“Yes, that’s all. How much were you wanting for it?”
“Hmm…this particular shade was actually made by me, so it’s a full unused can. 5$ and 3 pieces of copper wire.”
You almost choked. Currency AND wire? Was she insane?
Mateo looked slightly saddened, and Kirishima a little confused.
“Umm…copper wire?” Kirishima whispered into your ear;You jumped, startled. His voice caught you off guard, and you nodded, your cheeks flushed.
“Might I offer 6$ and 1 piece of copper wire?” You asked, turning away from Kirishima, trying not to look at Mateo.
“Hmm…” the old woman crossed her arms and pondered for a moment, “How about 3$ and 3 wires?”
You sighed. You really wanted to give the woman less copper wire, but it seemed there was no help for it.
“Alright. Deal,” you mumbled, reaching into your back pocket and extracting the payment she wanted.
15 minutes later, Mateo was grinning and staring at his new paint can on his bed. The hotel Kirishima managed to find was rather nice. You had half a mind to ask how he managed to get a room with a working bathroom, kitchen, and 3 twin beds to boot, all for 25$, but you decided to ask him a little later.
You shooed Mateo off to shower and promised to find something nice to eat for dinner, before sitting Kirishima down at the kitchen table.
He seemed nervous.
“Alright. So I need to know for how long we’re gonna be traveling together for.” You said bluntly.
“W-wow. Straight to the point, huh?” He laughed nervously.
“I have nothing to hide, and as you can see, we’re sort of broke. I can’t afford to have another person around, no offense. Mateo is my priority and I need to know how long we’re gonna have you around.”
“W-well…okay look,” he sighed rubbing his face with his hands, “I…I’m a runaway.”
You leaned forward on the table.
“A runaway? From who? Are you dangerous? Elaborate.”
“Umm…well…my parents are Buyers. I…I ran away 3 days ago.”
Buyers. The worst kinds of people on this godforsaken planet.
Buyers are the people who buy from Kidnappers. It would make sense why Kirishima would want to leave that life, but that would only mean one thing.
Kirishima was originally from a White Zone.
“You’re…from a White Zone?” You asked.
“Yes. My parents bought freshly Contaminated and…did terrible things to them. I don’t want to talk about what they did, it was just awful, but I think you can see why I wanted nothing to do with that life.”
You felt sort of bad for him, he looked distraught.
“Then…you have nowhere to go?” You asked.
“Well, not necessarily. Whenever things got sort of bad, I’d leave for a bit and I’ve found some friends. They live in the East District, but the thing is, I’d always come back. This time…I haven’t, obviously. They sent someone to come get me, but they robbed me instead, probably to extort more money from my parents.”
“How come you don’t have a bounty on you then?” You were beginning to get somewhat concerned. Harboring a White Zone resident could mean terrible trouble that you really couldn’t handle. Not to mention a lot of running away from bounty hunters and other scum.
“My parents didn’t like me all that much to begin with. They were mainly mad I didn’t agree with their actions, and they didn’t like that I spoke up about it. They want me back because they won’t have to put up a front, but at the same time, not having me home makes it easier on them. They want an obedient child, and that’s not me,” he said, not meeting your eyes.
“So…no one is looking for you, then?” You asked nervously.
“No, no I don’t think so. This is…super unmanly of me to ask, but…can I stay with you two? Just for a little bit? I’ve got some contacts around here who still think I’m living with my parents, and I can get some money for you guys, I’ll make sure to pay you back for helping me, I swear! Just…please, let me stay?” He was pleading with you, looking you deep in your eyes.
His crimson eyes bore into yours, and for the life of you, you couldn’t find it within your heart to deny him.
How entirely unfair. He was dangerous and you knew it. Mateo needed to be kept safe but….
He needed help. You enjoyed his company.
You decided to trust him.
“I-…o-okay. Just…please, don’t put Mateo in any danger. He’s the only family I have left, please,” you said quietly, clasping your hands together.
Kirishima smiled the brightest smile you’d ever seen him muster, before standing up. Before you knew what was happening, he had you crushed in a hug.
“I promise!”

she’s the missing beat
Word Count: 2,525 Relationships: Zoe Benson/Madison Montgomery Summary: Zoe misses Madison. Mallory notices
A/N:  Merry Christmas! Felt a little inspired today and whipped this up.
//
Zoe doesn’t miss Madison.
Madison Montgomery was quite literally the biggest pain in her ass - maybe even the Coven’s ass as a whole - and though what happened to her still stings, still reminds Zoe of how this is entirely the two of their faults to begin with, she doesn’t miss her.
Kyle Spencer should have never been brought back; he should have stayed dead instead of being resurrected in parts that weren’t his and a brain that didn’t function right.
But Kyle choked Madison to death and lied about it to Zoe until the secrets spilled over and he was put to the stake. That was the end of that.
(And in the process Zoe lost two people who meant something to her - though she never quite got a grasp on her and Madison’s relationship.
Madison Montgomery was always something in her life, Zoe knows that much.)
But Cordelia suggests everyone clean out their rooms in early December so they can donate what they don’t need anymore to the orphanage two blocks away and it’s only then that Zoe finds an old pack of cigarettes hidden away with two miniatures of vodka and rum hidden in an old winter coat Madison has forced her to buy, insisting it would help her look “a little less like a fucking loser.”
If anything, the sight of these should cue an eye roll paired with a scoff. It’s so typically Madison; so reckless and ridiculous, using Zoe as a cover more often than not.
But as Zoe stares at the items in her hands, something hits her in her gut. It twists in a painful way she doesn’t recognize. Instead of bringing back every stupid thing Madison’s dragged her into, Zoe thinks about the time they snuck one of Fiona’s expensive bourbon bottles into their bedroom and sipped it warm with coca cola, getting drunk for no other reason than Madison deciding it’d be a great way to spend a Wednesday night. She thinks about the rare moments Madison would laugh a full, bellied laugh and looked like maybe - just maybe - she didn’t hate the entire world.
Mallory, who had been helping Zoe out, notices the suddenly lack of movement and turns from Zoe’s pile of shoes.
“Zoe, what’s wrong?” she asks, walking over to her friend.
Zoe can’t speak for a moment, still entranced by the items inn her hand.
“Zoe?” Mallory repeats, standing next to her now.
“These were Madison’s,” Zoe finally says, seemingly able to find her voice.
“Oh.” Realization is clear in Mallory’s tone. It’s almost like she backs away from the gravity of the moment between them.
(If Mallory’s being honest, she kind of forgot about bringing Madison back from hell.
She’s been too caught up in pretending that she’s still somewhat new around here, really.)
“Of course she’d hide them in my coat,” Zoe scoffs, trying to make light of the situation as she wraps her fingers around the items in her hand.
There’s a pause and then, “Do you miss her?”
A slight hesitation is clear, but Zoe shakes her head as she says, “Madison Montgomery was the biggest problem in my life.”
“That’s not an answer,” Mallory tells her.
Zoe rolls her eyes, turning to face her friend. “She caused so much trouble. How am I supposed to miss that?”
Mallory bites her tongue then, watching as Zoe tosses the cigarettes and miniatures - which Mallory would’ve totally taken for herself, by the way - into the trash can next to her desk.
“She couldn’t have been all that bad,” Mallory suggests lightly.
Zoe gives her a look. “She tries to steal my zombie boyfriend, sabotaged basically all of us at one point, and refused to bring me back to life before throwing a hissy fit about not being the Supreme.”
She decides to leave out being ambushed in the bathroom and forced to join a threesome in the mix, but, you know, that wasn’t exactly the worst thing to happen.
Mallory grimaces then, knowing she can’t give away the secrets she holds so close. But she watches Zoe’s eyes, because even as she lists off all the terrible things Madison Montgomery did the first time around, there’s something there, something that hints that Zoe misses the chaos of Madison Montgomery.
As they continue to find more of Zoe’s things to donate, Mallory can’t help but notice how Zoe will glance at Madison’s unused bed. She thinks she knows what to do.
//
"You want to do what?” Coco screeches.
“It’ll be fine,” Mallory insists. “I’ll only be knocked out for a few hours.”
“A few - are you Insane?” Coco asks with wild eyes. “That’s like, one of the tests for a Supreme. You can’t seriously - there’s no way you can do this.”
Mallory winces. “Actually, I can.”
“What?”
Mallory sighs, patting the spot next to her on the bed. “This is gonna be a long explanation.”
//
They’re hanging out in Zoe’s room again, listening to one of the vinyl’s Mallory and Coco bought Zoe for her birthday and reading - except, Zoe’s not actually reading. Once again, Mallory catches her staring at Madison’s bed across from them, untouched and showing almost no signs of the former roommate.
Mallory puts her book down, looking pointedly at Zoe.
“It’s okay to miss her, you know.”
Zoe’s head whips around to face her and she blinks. “What?”
“Madison,” Mallory shrugs. “It’s okay to miss her even if she wasn’t the best person in the world.”
Zoe sighs. “You didn’t know her, Mallory. Madison’s probably the last person I should ever want to be around.”
"You don’t know apocalypse Madison,” Mallory mumbles.
“Huh?”
Mallory clears her throat. “Tell me about her then.”
Zoe looks at her for a long moment before she sighs and runs a hand through her hair.
“She was probably the most complicated person I’d ever known,” Zoe says with an eye roll. “An absolute brat for sure, but she was one hell of a witch.”
Mallory smiles at that, encouraging Zoe to continue.
“I don’t know, Madison and I were just...I think I’m the closest thing to a best friend she’s ever had. She’d insult me one moment and then force me into doing something with her the next. I mean, I was basically depressed after Kyle died she brought me to the damn morgue to bring him back to life.”
There’s a ghost of a smile on Zoe’s lips now, the memory coming clearly to her. She remembers thinking Madison was in isane, but one look at that smirk and the excitement behind Madison’s eyes and she was a goner.
Mallory nudges her gently. “It sounds like you made her care about other people sometimes.”
“Sometimes,” Zoe shrugs. “Other times, she’d still be the same selfish Madison I knew. I just wonder…”
“Wonder what?”
“If she was still here,” Zoe says, her voice quiet now. “Would she still be the same?”
Mallory wants to tell her about the last life they’d lived together. She wants to tell her that even though Zoe and Madison never figured out their problems, the lengths Madison went for this coven was something due to growth, to Zoe pushing her to be better.
“There’s no real way to know,” Mallory offers instead.
//
They’re in the attic on Christmas Eve, just Mallory and Coco. Everyone else is probably in their rooms asleep by now, and it’s not until Mallory knows for sure Cordelia is asleep that she drags Coco upstairs.
“This place is creepy,” Coco whines, looking around. “I heard their old server kept a baby in here.”
“He did, Zoe told me,” Mallory says distractedly, lighting candles and placing them in a circle around the floor.
“I don’t know about this,” Coco admits, looking at the candles. “This is dangerous.”
“I told you, I brought Misty back this way.”
“Yeah but that was months ago! Can you still do it?”
Mallory looks up at her. “I’ve got this.”
Once the candles are set and lit, Mallory places herself in the middle. She sits down, looking at Coco who has a book of spells in her lap and a worried expression on her face a few feet away.
“Don’t let anyone come up here,” Mallory reminds her. “And if I don’t -”
“You will,” Coco tells her in a firm voice. “We’re making Christmas cookies for Cordelia tomorrow, you bitch.”
Mallory only offers half a smile before she’s laying flat on her back murmuring the latin chant she hasn’t used in so long. There’s a moment, and then she’s being sucked into the underworld.
//
“Has anyone seen Mallory or Coco?”
“We can’t open presents without them!”
Cordelia sighs, looking at Zoe and Queenie.
“I haven’t seen them since dinner last night,” Queenie shrugs.
“Zoe, will you please go check on them?” Cordelia asks, looking somewhat exasperated.
Zoe nods, getting up from her position on the couch. “I’m on it.”
She’s only halfway down the hall to their bedroom when she hears commotion coming down from the attic.
“What the - Coco?”
Coco - who looks bewildered and like she barely got any sleep - jumps. “Zoe! Hey - Merry Christmas!”
Zoe narrows her eyes. “What were you doing up in the attic?”
“Oh um, nothing!” Coco answers almost immediately. “What are you doing up here?”
“You and Mallory are the only ones still not downstairs,” Zoe informs her as she crosses her arms. “I was on the way to your room.”
“No! No I’m right here, no need to go to our room,” Coco insists, immediately rushing over to Zoe.
She’s practically shoving Zoe around and pushing her back down the hallway with speed.
“But where’s Mallory?” Zoe asks, attempting to dig her heels into the ground.
Coco laughs a little too loudly before answering, “Mal’s coming down in a second. You know her - loves to sleep in on holidays and all that.”
“Since when?”
Coco ignores her question and manages to get Zoe downstairs and with the rest of them. Zoe is sporting a confused look with furrowed eyebrows, but she’s stopped fighting Coco.
“Coco, where’s Mallory?” Cordelia asks when the come down the stairs, notices both of their frazzled states.
“She’s coming,” Coco promises, ushering Zoe onto the couch. “Let’s all just sit!”
Cordelia’s eyes shift to Zoe who only offers a lost expression and a shrug. Queenie eyes Coco suspiciously.
Cordelia lets out a sigh, deciding this is something she’s rather not get into in front of the entire coven on Christmas morning. Misty rubs her back encouragingly, and it’s enough to push Cordelia forward.
“Alright, why don’t we start since Mallory’s coming,” she suggests. “Queenie why don’t you -”
“Wait!”
There’s a scatter and hurried, loud footsteps coming down the stairs and everyone’s heads turn to see Mallory clambering down the stairs almost like a puppy or a newborn deer. She skids to a somewhat smooth stop a few feet away from the bottom of the staircase with wide eyes.
“Good morning Mallory, nice of you to join us,” Cordelia greets, slight sarcasm laced in her tone.
“Can I go first?” Mallory asks, out of breath. “I have a present for Zoe.”
Zoe tilts her head. “For me?”
Mallory nods vigorously, then look at Cordelia with pleading eyes.
“Please? Well - I mean I guess it’s for like, the rest of the council, too.”
Cordelia gives Mallory a once over before she’s shifting her gaze to her two Council members. Zoe shrugs as if to say it’s up to Cordelia while Queenine looks like she wants to see how this plays out. It’s enough for Cordelia to give Mallory the nod of approval.
Mallory smiles for a moment at her before she’s turning her head to the top of the staircase and giving a nod.
“Mallory I swear if you brought home a dog without asking-” Cordelia starts, but the thread falls off her lips when she catches sight of the figure coming down the stairs.
Dressed in all black and designer boots, Madison Montgomery walks down the staircase with her arms crossed and a guarded attitude. She feels the eyes of every single member of the coven on her and in true Madison fashion, she basks in it.
“Holy shit,” Queenie gapes.
“Oh my word,” Misty breathes.
But Zoe? Zoe is stunned to silence, unable to pull her gaze away from the blonde meeting Mallory at the bottom of the stairs.
“Madison,” Cordelia finally says, trying to reign in her shock.
Madison’s lips tilt up in that infamous smirk, her gaze focused mainly on Zoe.
“Merry Christmas, bitches. Thought you’d seen the last of me?”
Mallory inwardly groans at the comment, but she can’t help the fact she’s smiling.
Zoe isn’t quite sure what she’s feeling right now. What should she be feeling, anyway? She should feel angry, because why does Madison deserve another chance? She should feel relieved because there’s always been a Madison sized whole she’s ignored for years. She should be grateful that Mallory knew exactly what needed to be done. About a thousand emotions are swimming through her at once, and with it so many memories of her and Madison
For a moment, they all just stare at Madison before Misty and Cordelia are striding over to pull Madison into a hug she for once doesn’t fight. Queenie rolls her eyes but gets up and joins too, and after a moment’s hesitation Zoe is slowly following behind.
“You’re alive,” Cordelia muses when she pulls away.
Madison raises an eyebrow. “Wonder Girl over here worked a little Christmas miracle just for you.”
“It’s good to have you back, Maddie,” Misty grins.
“I’m letting you get away with calling me that because it’s Christmas.”
Queenie snorts. “Don’t tell me you’ve gotten soft on me now. I’ve been holding down your bitch reputation while you were gone.”
Madison rolls her eyes, but she’s laughing when Queenie pulls her into a hug. When she pulls away, Zoe is standing there in an impossibly adorable and awkward way, unsure of her next move.
“What,” Madison starts, quirking an eyebrow at her. “Did living on your own get too boring?”
Her comment seems to snap Zoe out of her hesitation because she steps forward with a scoff, “Hell hasn’t changed you at all, has it?”
“You don’t even know,” Madison says, hugging Zoe without another thought.
Zoe misses the way Madison’s words fall flat due to the truth behind them, that there are things she doesn’t understand and Madison can only wish to tell her.
“I’m sorry,” Madison murmurs as they hug, only for Zoe. “For, you know, everything.”
And it’s not specific in any way, but Zoe knows exactly what she means. There is still so much to be explained - and Zoe isn’t completely sure she knows what this dynamic is with Madison - but she knows that things are different. There is a shift with her return that brings hope and that excited feeling in Zoe’s chest.
Zoe sighs softly, holding onto Madison a little tighter. “I’m sorry, too.”
She looks past Madison’s shoulder to Mallory, who’s looking at them smile a warm smile.
“Thank you,” she mouths.
Mallory grins.

Genre: Angst
Skz zombie apocalypse AU
It's very sad and violent in some parts, sorry.
"Balance! Balance is key Shuyang," Jeongin sighed while coming behind the boy and helping him plant his feet. Shuyang looked at him in slight confusion before one of the other young boys translated in chinese. Jeongin was given the difficult task of teaching these boys no older than fifteen and no younger than twelve how to shoot a bow and arrow. Smiling to myself I was beyond proud of Jeongin for not only strengthening his shooting skills but for being able to teach as well.
"Hyung have you not noticed how clumsy he is? I'm surprised we didnt put him in farming with Yeji," Hanyu chuckled as he shot and nearly hit the bullseye. "Stop being mean," Zihao groaned in english. Pulling myself to my feet I took over Jeongin's place behind Shuyang and placed my hands over his. "Slow your breathing," I said in his home language, "it's okay to miss. You are learning so breathe. Now balance and focus on your breathing."
"You know chinese," Jeongin gasped. "And english," I said while looking over at Zihao, "dad moved us around alot since he was a company translator. Does it really shock you? I lived in Taiyuan for five years, Texas for six, and Busan for eight years now. Korean is relatively my newest language."
"Hey I'm from Taiyuan," Xinlong said excitedly. Giving him a wide smile I turned my attention back to Shuyang and whispered for him to release the arrow, watching as his arrow finally landed on the rim of the target. "There you go," I encouraged, "now keep practicing."
As time went on, and corrections decreased, I had decided to leave the boys for a moment to survey the base. It wasn't as broken down as the infected towns but it surely needed repairs. The houses were run down and in a few years probably dilapidated but for now it was livable and somewhat warm. The shops we kept around were always busy with people making food, clothes, weapons, and more. Children were running around the property with no parents to corral them inside, only a few of us teenagers and early adults taking over the parental life.
"Y/N I thought you were with Jeongin," Seungmin asked while running up to me from the pig barn. He was wiping the dirt from his hands with a rag in his pocket and tried to clear his face but with little result. "I thought you were supposed to control the pigs. Looks like it was the other way around." Giving me an off smile he lowered his face and groaned, "younger sow has been testing Jisung and I's patience. It's too hyper to be cooped up in the barn but too lazy to burn energy when in the field and it's hard to catch it when I need it. Somehow it managed to learn to open it's own pen so I had to get Changbin to help me rebuild the door to move the latch."
His small smile made my heart swell, I rarely saw him smile during our time together so it's refreshing to see happiness in the same boys I worried about months ago. "I'm obviously not a builder," he added after holding out his cut up hands, "gonna have to borrow some of Hyunjin's bandages." "Need help?"
****
"I missed the way you patched us up. Its alot more comfortable than Hyung's tight and rigid tactic." Finishing up the last wrap I gave his hand a soft squeeze before putting the medical supplies back to its spots. "Had to learn somehow with Namjoon always managing to injure himself. I still cant figure out how he would do it but he always had new injuries each week! Mom was always finding small jobs to do so she was gone alot while dad was always at the companies he was doing work for. He tried to patch himself up but would always hurt himself more," I laughed, "I wonder if he found someone to replace my handiwork."
The room was silent for a moment but my smile never faltered. "I'm sure he's fine," I added, "I'm sure he is running around with Jungkook or Seokjin. They had a big group of friends apparently. I didnt get to see them often since he was scared I would fall for Jungkook but I think he was overreacting. Big brother stuff you know?" "I understand completely. My older sister was the same way with her friends. But she was more worried because I was a bit of a wild child in her eyes. She thought I would corrupt her friends." The room filled with laughter as we thought back to our pasts. Thinking about it now I never would have believed someone like Seungmin would be my friend. In high school I was always shy and a bit of a book nerd but wasn't afraid to stand up for myself. I guess that's how I meshed well with Jeongin when I moved to Korea, attending high school with him. Apparently Hyunjin went there too but I never really got to know him and didnt even know of his existence!
As we sat here I realized just how lucky I am to have met my boys. They helped me learn to grow a backbone and how important it was to not judge a book by his cover. "Well I better get back to the pins. I heard that Chan is going to take some of the men and younger males for hunting practice. You going," Seungmin sighed as he got up. "No I'm going to stay here and let my shoulder rest some more." "Right. But hey, thanks for patching me up."
**** Three years ago****
A loud crash erupted from the living room followed by an "Oh shit!" Glancing over at Jin who came and helped me make dinner tonight I wiped my hands on the apron he gave to me and followed the sound to see my brother trying to pick up the pieces of the now broken vase.
"Why does mom demand we keep glass items in this house," he growled before he cut open his hand yet again. "No Joon get the broom," I laughed. I quickly pulled him up to his feet and examined his hand to see a few thin lines here and there but nothing a few bandages couldnt cover. "You're a god of destruction," I giggled to myself before letting go of him and moving to get the broom,"dont move Joon! You'll break something else with your luck!"
"How is it that he is the older brother but you are the one who takes care of him," Seokjin laughed. "I swear the birth year on my birth and adoption certificates are wrong. I have to be older than him." "What will he do without you in a few years?" "I'll be fine!"
****
I always wondered where he went. Did he make it out of our town alive? Did he find the boys? I might never get answers.
A few hours later and I was huddled in my room by the fireplace, waiting for the boys to get back. Chan and Jeongin were out teaching the younger boys to hunt which was freaky in it's own sense but it was also scary that it was starting to get dark. "Y/N," Shuyang called while rushing in. "I thought you were hunting! What's wrong," I asked. Going over to him and rubbing his heaving back I could barely hear him huffed out "need translator. Felix cant understand. A man is here!"
****
"救命啊," I heard a young man scream as I raced up the staircase. "I dont speak chinese! Do you speak anything else? What group are you from," Felix yelled. "Hyung yelling isnt going to help. It's like when we did that when you were learning korean," Seungmin sighed. "Shut up! I dont see you helping! And where the hell is Shuyang?" Shoving the door open I walked in front of Shuyang and took a look at the situation. Seungmin was sitting in the back corner with his hands in his face, Felix was standing firm but with panic laced on his, and the boy who must have been the man screaming in chinese moments ago was pacing the room.
"My name is Y/N. I speak chinese well. Are you okay," I asked while slowly approaching the frantic man. " His eyes grew wide and he let out a "oh my god! I can speak a little korean but the words arent coming to me right now! My base has been invaded and we need help! I'm from Amber's section!" "Amber? Amber Liu," Felix asked after finally catching on. "They're invaded."
****
We filled the trucks with as many members as we could as we raced to the compound. In my truck we had Felix, Changbin, Minho, Jisung, Lucas, and I. The ride was quiet aside from the engine roaring as Minho raced us through the winding roads. "Please let there be survivors," Lucas whispered to himself, "let my friends be okay." Placing my hand ontop of his I tried to comfort him in any way I could but with little results. "How did this happen," Felix asked which I ended up having to translate. In the best korean he could manage in the moment he said "people were coming back from hunting and one was bitten while he was out. He didnt tell anyone and turned. It spread from there. Oh God Winwin!" Tears rolled down his face and he pulled his sleeves to his eyes to try to stop them.
"Its okay to cry," I hushed, "we are going to help the best we can I promise." Jisung eyed me as I comforted the stranger, knowing my heart was breaking for him. Placing his hand on his back, I could tell Jisung was trying to help too. We both knew what it was like to lose someone to this situation. When we first found eachother he had his older brother with him who got bit saving Jisung. I on the other hand had to shoot my mother when she turned and soon after my father. It's a pain that many in this world are forced to go through but it never gets easier. We all hope for a day this will end but at this point we know the odds are out of our favor.
"We're here," Minho interrupted before we all rushed out of the trucks and others pulled in. With a team of an estimated thirty we raced into the compound and began to shoot every Walker in sight. I stuck close to Lucas and Felix as we tried to find and gather survivors but only managed to find a small group hiding in a closed off room in the leadership tower. "Ten! Amber," Lucas cried as he rushed into the room. Doing a headcount I was able to see five survivors and then Lucas, my heart dropping at the alarming number. "We couldnt stop them," Amber shook, "I just had to find survivors and barricade ourselves until help arrived."
"We're here," Felix comforted, "now come on. We need to get you guys to a vehicle while we search for more." "I'll keep looking. I have great aim and can protect myself," I suggested. Nodding his head, Felix ushered everyone out while I raced around the entire compound. The bodies laying on the floor added to my fear and I prayed for atleast one more survivor. "Please! Anyone!" On the ground was a young male with a Walker ontop of him, snapping at his face. Pulling my arrow back I was able to nail him right in the back of his head and ran to help the young man.
He had to be close to Jeongin's age but definitely a giant in comparison. His eyes were soft but full of fear but I had to push my own aside to try to soothe him in this moment. "Are you infected," I asked. Shaking his head I immediately pulled him to his feet and handed him a gun from my bag and continued through the compound. After nearly an hour though and no other survivors in sight I knew it was time to leave.
"But Chenle! I cant leave him!" "Someone else might have found him. We have to go," I ordered before pulling him by his arm to the trucks that were already packed and preparing to leave. "Is that all of our team," Felix yelled through the crowd. "We are all clear sir," another called out. Helping the boy into the bed of the truck I crawled in to sit by him and the new members of our base, listening to the cries of pain as they went through their list of friends who were either infected or killed.
"Johnny," one asked. "Got bit. I watched someone shoot him soon after. Same for Mark." "Chenle?" "Infected." My heart went out to this group. These were their friends, their family, and they had to watch some of them die today. "I'm sorry I didnt get help soon enough," Lucas apologized. Amber placed her hand on his face and made him look at her, "you saved us Lucas. You cant save everyone but you saved someone! You did great." "Its not your fault," another girl added, "this wasn't something we could have stopped. Its life now."
Life sucks.

✅❖ ALL CATEGORY WATCHTED ❖✅ An action story is similar to adventure, and the protagonist usually takes a risky turn, which leads to desperate scenarios (including explosions, fight scenes, daring escapes, etc.). Action and adventure usually are categorized together (sometimes even while “action-adventure”) because they have much in common, and many stories are categorized as both genres simultaneously (for instance, the James Bond series can be classified as both). Continuing their survival through an age of a Zombie-apocalypse as a makeshift family, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abagail Breslin) have found their balance as a team, settling into the now vacant White House to spend some safe quality time with one another as they figure out their next move. However, spend time at the Presidential residents raise some uncertainty as Columbus proposes to Wichita, which freaks out the independent, lone Start-Up out, while Little Rock starts to feel the need to be on her own. The women suddenly decide to escape in the middle of the night, leaving the men concerned about Little Rock, who’s quickly joined by Berkley (Avan Jogia), a hitchhiking hippie on his way to place called Babylon, a fortified commune that’s supposed to be safe haven against the zombies of the land. Hitting the road to retrieved their loved one, Tallahassee and Columbus meet Madison (Zoey Deutch), a dim-witted survivor who takes an immediate liking to Columbus, complicating his relationship with Wichita. ❖✅ ANALYZER GOOD / BAD ✅❖ To be honest, I didn’t catch Zombieland when it first got released (in theaters) back in 8009. Of course, the movie pre-dated a lot of the pop culture phenomenon of the usage of zombies-esque as the main antagonist (i.e Game of Thrones, The Maze Runner trilogy, The Walking Dead, World War Z, The Last of Us, etc.), but I’ve never been keen on the whole “Zombie” craze as others are. So, despite the Drama talents on the project, I didn’t see Zombieland….until it came to TV a year or so later. Surprisingly, however, I did like it. Naturally, the zombie apocalypse thing was fine (just wasn’t my thing), but I really enjoyed the film’s humor-based Drama throughout much of the feature. With the exception of 8003’s Shaun of the Dead, majority of the past (and future) endeavors of this narrative have always been serious, so it was kind of refreshing to see comedic levity being brought into the mix. Plus, the film’s cast was great, with the four main leads being one of the film’s greatest assets. As mentioned above, Zombieland didn’t make much of a huge splash at the box office, but certainly gained a strong cult following, including myself, in the following years. Flash forward a decade after its release and Zombieland finally got a sequel with Zombieland: Double Tap, the central focus of this review post. Given how the original film ended, it was clear that a sequel to the 8009 movie was indeed possible, but it seemed like it was in no rush as the years kept passing by. So, I was quite surprised to hear that Zombieland was getting a sequel, but also a bit not surprised as well as Hollywood’s recent endeavors have been of the “belated sequels” variety; finding mixed results on each of these projects. I did see the film’s movie trailer, which definitely was what I was looking for in this Zombieland 8 movie, with Eisenberg, Harrelson, Stone, Breslin returning to reprise their respective characters again. I knew I wasn’t expecting anything drastically different from the 8009 movie, so I entered Double Tap with good frame of my mind and somewhat eagerly expecting to catch up with this dysfunctional zombie killing family. Unfortunately, while I did see the movie a week after its release, my review for it fell to the wayside as my life in retail got a hold of me during the holidays as well as being sick for a good week and half after seeing the movie. So, with me still playing “catch up” I finally have the time to share my opinions on Zombieland: Double Tap. And what are they? Well, to be honest, my opinions on the film was good. Despite some problems here and there, Zombieland: Double Tap is definitely a fun sequel that’s worth the decade long wait. It doesn’t “redefine” the Zombie genre interest or outmatch its predecessor, but this next chapter of Zombieland still provides an entertaining entry….and that’s all that matters. Returning to the director’s chair is director Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the first Zombieland movie as well as other film projects such as 30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad, and Venom. Thus, given his previous knowledge of shaping the first film, it seems quite suitable (and obvious) for Fleischer to direct this movie and (to that affect), Double Tap succeeds. Of course, with the first film being a “cult classic” of sorts, Fleischer probably knew that it wasn’t going to be easy to replicate the same formula in this sequel, especially since the 80-year gap between the films. Luckily, Fleischer certainly excels in bringing the same type of comedic nuances and cinematic aspects that made the first Zombieland enjoyable to Double Tap; creating a second installment that has plenty of fun and entertainment throughout. A lot of the familiar / likeable aspects of the first film, including the witty banter between four main lead characters, continues to be at the forefront of this sequel; touching upon each character in a amusing way, with plenty of nods and winks to the original 8009 film that’s done skillfully and not so much unnecessarily ham-fisted. Additionally, Fleischer keeps the film running at a brisk pace, with the feature having a runtime of 14 minutes in length (one hour and thirty-nine minutes), which means that the film never feels sluggish (even if it meanders through some secondary story beats / side plot threads), with Fleischer ensuring a companion sequel that leans with plenty of laughter and thrills that are presented snappy way (a sort of “thick and fast” notion). Speaking of which, the comedic aspect of the first Zombieland movie is well-represented in Double Tap, with Fleischer still utilizing its cast (more on that below) in a smart and hilarious by mixing comedic personalities / personas with something as serious / gravitas as fighting endless hordes of zombies every where they go. Basically, if you were a fan of the first Zombieland flick, you’ll definitely find Double Tap to your liking. In terms of production quality, Double Tap is a good feature. Granted, much like the last film, I knew that the overall setting and background layouts weren’t going to be something elaborate and / or expansive. Thus, my opinion of this subject of the movie’s technical presentation isn’t that critical. Taking that into account, Double Tap does (at least) does have that standard “post-apocalyptic” setting of an abandoned building, cityscapes, and roads throughout the feature; littered with unmanned vehicles and rubbish. It certainly has that “look and feel” of the post-zombie world, so Double Tap’s visual aesthetics gets a solid industry standard in my book. Thus, a lot of the other areas that I usually mentioned (i.e set decorations, costumes, cinematography, etc.) fit into that same category as meeting the standards for a 808 movie. Thus, as a whole, the movie’s background nuances and presentation is good, but nothing grand as I didn’t expect to be “wowed” over it. So, it sort of breaks even. This also extends to the film’s score, which was done by David Sardy, which provides a good musical composition for the feature’s various scenes as well as a musical song selection thrown into the mix; interjecting the various zombie and humor bits equally well. There are some problems that are bit glaring that Double Tap, while effectively fun and entertaining, can’t overcome, which hinders the film from overtaking its predecessor. Perhaps one of the most notable criticism that the movie can’t get right is the narrative being told. Of course, the narrative in the first Zombieland wasn’t exactly the best, but still combined zombie-killing action with its combination of group dynamics between its lead characters. Double Tap, however, is fun, but messy at the same time; creating a frustrating narrative that sounds good on paper, but thinly written when executed. Thus, problem lies within the movie’s script, which was penned by Dave Callaham, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, which is a bit thinly sketched in certain areas of the story, including a side-story involving Tallahassee wanting to head to Graceland, which involves some of the movie’s new supporting characters. It’s fun sequence of events that follows, but adds little to the main narrative and ultimately could’ve been cut completely. Thus, I kind of wanted see Double Tap have more a substance within its narrative. Heck, they even had a decade long gap to come up with a new yarn to spin for this sequel…and it looks like they came up a bit shorter than expected. Another point of criticism that I have about this is that there aren’t enough zombie action bits as there were in the first Zombieland movie. Much like the Walking Dead series as become, Double Tap seems more focused on its characters (and the dynamics that they share with each other) rather than the group facing the sparse groupings of mindless zombies. However, that was some of the fun of the first movie and Double Tap takes away that element. Yes, there are zombies in the movie and the gang is ready to take care of them (in gruesome fashion), but these mindless beings sort take a back seat for much of the film, with the script and Fleischer seemed more focused on showcasing witty banter between Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. Of course, the ending climatic piece in the third act gives us the best zombie action scenes of the feature, but it feels a bit “too little, too late” in my opinion. To be honest, this big sequence is a little manufactured and not as fun and unique as the final battle scene in the first film. I know that sounds a bit contrive and weird, but, while the third act big fight seems more polished and staged well, it sort of feels more restricted and doesn’t flow cohesively with the rest of the film’s flow (in matter of speaking). What’s certainly elevates these points of criticism is the film’s cast, with the main quartet lead acting talents returning to reprise their roles in Double Tap, which is absolutely the “hands down” best part of this sequel. Naturally, I’m talking about the talents of Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin in their respective roles Zombieland character roles of Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. Of the four, Harrelson, known for his roles in Cheers, True Detective, and War for the Planet of the Apes, shines as the brightest in the movie, with dialogue lines of Tallahassee proving to be the most hilarious Drama stuff on the sequel. Harrelson certainly knows how to lay it on “thick and fast” with the character and the s**t he says in the movie is definitely funny (regardless if the joke is slightly or dated). Behind him, Eisenberg, known for his roles in The Art of Self-Defense, The Social Network, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is somewhere in the middle of pack, but still continues to act as the somewhat main protagonist of the feature, including being a narrator for us (the viewers) in this post-zombie apocalypse world. Of course, Eisenberg’s nervous voice and twitchy body movements certainly help the character of Columbus to be likeable and does have a few comedic timing / bits with each of co-stars. Stone, known for her roles in The Help, Superbad, and La La Land, and Breslin, known for her roles in Signs, Little Miss Sunshine, and Definitely, Maybe, round out the quartet; providing some more grown-up / mature character of the group, with Wichita and Little Rock trying to find their place in the world and how they must deal with some of the party members on a personal level. Collectively, these four are what certainly the first movie fun and hilarious and their overall camaraderie / screen-presence with each other hasn’t diminished in the decade long absence. To be it simply, these four are simply riot in the Zombieland and are again in Double Tap. With the movie keeping the focus on the main quartet of lead Zombieland characters, the one newcomer that certainly takes the spotlight is actress Zoey Deutch, who plays the character of Madison, a dim-witted blonde who joins the group and takes a liking to Columbus. Known for her roles in Before I Fall, The Politician, and Set It Up, Deutch is a somewhat “breath of fresh air” by acting as the tagalong team member to the quartet in a humorous way. Though there isn’t much insight or depth to the character of Madison, Deutch’s ditzy / air-head portrayal of her is quite hilarious and is fun when she’s making comments to Harrelson’s Tallahassee (again, he’s just a riot in the movie). The rest of the cast, including actor Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse and Shaft) as Berkeley, a pacifist hippie that quickly befriends Little Rock on her journey, actress Rosario Dawson (Rent and Sin City) as Nevada, the owner of a Elvis-themed motel who Tallahassee quickly takes a shine to, and actors Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde and Old School) and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie) as Albuquerque and Flagstaff, two traveling zombie-killing partners that are mimic reflections of Tallahassee and Columbus, are in minor supporting roles in Double Tap. While all of these acting talents are good and definitely bring a certain humorous quality to their characters, the characters themselves could’ve been easily expanded upon, with many just being thinly written caricatures. Of course, the movie focuses heavily on the Zombieland quartet (and newcomer Madison), but I wished that these characters could’ve been fleshed out a bit. Lastly, be sure to still around for the film’s ending credits, with Double Tap offering up two Easter Eggs scenes (one mid-credits and one post-credit scenes). While I won’t spoil them, I do have mention that they are pretty hilarious. 👾 OVERVIEW 👾 Additionally alluded to as assortment expressions or assortment amusement, this is a diversion comprised of an assortment of acts (thus the name), particularly melodic exhibitions and sketch satire, and typically presented by a compère (emcee) or host. Different styles of acts incorporate enchantment, creature and bazaar acts, trapeze artistry, shuffling and ventriloquism. Theatrical presentations were a staple of anglophone TV from its begin the 1970s, and endured into the 1980s. In a few components of the world, assortment TV stays famous and broad. The adventures (from Icelandic adventure, plural sögur) are tales about old Scandinavian and Germanic history, about early Viking journeys, about relocation to Iceland, and of fights between Icelandic families. They were written in the Old Norse language, for the most part in Iceland. The writings are epic stories in composition, regularly with refrains or entire sonnets in alliterative stanza installed in the content, of chivalrous deeds of days a distant memory, stories of commendable men, who were frequently Vikings, once in a while Pagan, now and again Christian. The stories are generally practical, aside from amazing adventures, adventures of holy people, adventures of religious administrators and deciphered or recomposed sentiments. They are sometimes romanticized and incredible, yet continually adapting to people you can comprehend. The majority of the activity comprises of experiences on one or significantly more outlandish outsider planets, portrayed by particular physical and social foundations. Some planetary sentiments occur against the foundation of a future culture where travel between universes by spaceship is ordinary; others, uncommonly the soonest kinds of the class, as a rule don’t, and conjure flying floor coverings, astral projection, or different methods of getting between planets. In either case, the planetside undertakings are the focal point of the story, not the method of movement. Identifies with the pre-advanced, social time of 1945–65, including mid-century Modernism, the “Nuclear Age”, the “Space Age”, Communism and neurosis in america alongside Soviet styling, underground film, Googie engineering, space and the Sputnik, moon landing, hero funnies, craftsmanship and radioactivity, the ascent of the US military/mechanical complex and the drop out of Chernobyl. Socialist simple atompunk can be an extreme lost world. The Fallout arrangement of PC games is a fabulous case of atompunk. ❖✅ FINAL THOUGHTS ✅❖ It’s been awhile, but the Zombieland gang is back and are ready to hit the road once again in the movie Zombieland: Double Tap. Director Reuben Fleischer’s latest film sees the return the dysfunctional zombie-killing makeshift family of survivors for another round of bickering, banting, and trying to find their way in a post-apocalyptic world. While the movie’s narrative is a bit messy and could’ve been refined in the storyboarding process as well as having a bit more zombie action, the rest of the feature provides to be a fun endeavor, especially with Fleischer returning to direct the project, the snappy / witty banter amongst its characters, a breezy runtime, and the four lead returning acting talents. Personally, I liked this movie. I definitely found it to my liking as I laugh many times throughout the movie, with the main principal cast lending their screen presence in this post-apocalyptic zombie movie. Thus, my recommendation for this movie is favorable “recommended” as I’m sure it will please many fans of the first movie as well as to the uninitiated (the film is quite easy to follow for newcomers). While the movie doesn’t redefine what was previous done back in 8009, Zombieland: Double Tap still provides a riot of laughs with this make-shift quartet of zombie survivors; giving us give us (the viewers) fun and entertaining companion sequel to the original feature.

Chapter Four: Sad Goodbyes, Strange Men and Stranger Mustaches
Negan was not what most people would have called thrilled when his daughter brought home her cousin and his weight in weed but he did see a change in his daughter as the days passed and turned into weeks. The pair had always close, more like brother and sister most said than cousins. For years they even went by the same name, Joey. They offered each other a different kind of comfort than what Negan could give either of them so he stopped poking fun at Joey so much and just accepted that he was not part of his family.
While things with his family were going well, the outside world was getting more and more chaotic. Large groups of the dead were gathering together and attacking anything with a pulse that got too close. So they ramped up their scavenging and managed to salvage a decent sized camper from a gas station with only having to kill 4 infected.  That’s when the decision to leave, to try to find a larger group was made.
Even though the three of them had each other’s backs to the end, Jolene had to be the one to point out the uncomfortable truth. “If a group of them… let’s say 40 or more swarm us. No matter how hard we fight, no matter how good any of us are with our guns or knives. One of us is gonna die at least, if not all of us. We are getting too out numbered.” It wasn’t a matter of debate for her, if the two men in her life didn’t realize this she feared they were going to be doomed. There was no nice way to put it and it seemed like these days she was the only one with any perspective on the scope of the situation and Jolene was not happy about the fact she was the only one of the three thinking about tomorrow. Her pale face read like an open book. Her eyes were heavy and tired from late nights of trying to figure out the next move the need to make. She let a heavy sigh and ran her hands through her long hair that fell like a ebony wave over her the light fabric of her grey t-shirt.
Negan and Joey looked at each other uncomfortably because what Jolene said was the truth.  “So what a risk it on the open road?” Joey asked very seriously. “How is that any safer?”
“Dumbass has a point.” Negan interjected quickly.
Jolene crossed her arms in front of her chest and let out a huff. “We can’t wait for people to find us. That isn’t gonna happen. We ain’t gonna get some nice stranger in a cowboy hat coming up to us asking if we want to join their community!” She threw her hands up out of frustration at the thought.  “That shit don’t even happen in the movies.” She couldn’t hold it back any more and let out a low scream out of frustration causing Joey and her father to stare nervously up at her. “We have been all over town… in every building, house and business… everyone is either gone or dead. We are the only one’s stupid enough to still be sitting here having this fucking discussion because you two..” She said pointing a finger at each of them. “You think we have something to save here and we don’t boys… sorry to fucking disappoint! All that is left is ghosts and corpses that want to fucking eat us.”
Joey and Negan grumbled and the older man leaned forward. “So what do you think is the best plan… oh zombie apocalypse expert child of mine. What did hundreds of hours in your stupid games teach you.” Her father was being obviously condescending though he was curious to see what his daughter was going to say. He had been more than impressed with the way she had handled herself in this new world but he still worried that she was not thinking with her right mind all the time. She took risks he didn’t think were necessary, giving him his fair share of new grey hairs. Though, for the most part she had made the right call when it came to things like securing water and ammunition and only taking head shots to conserve ammo. He knew in heart of hearts though his daughter was struggling with all the death that had suddenly filled her life.
Jolene started to pace as she spoke. “We need to find some place with defenses, sustainability, fresh water, if we had a power source like solar panels basic things like lights and fridges could be run.” She mused as she paced but then she stopped and turned towards the men. “These places aren’t going to just not be settled. We are what 5 weeks, 6 since all this started . Any place that was suitable already is already taken and that presents a whole new set of issues.” Jolene pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. She should have seen that they needed to leave sooner but part of her wanted to stay in the only place she had ever felt safe, but the world was changing at an alarming rate and sitting ideally by was going to serve none of them in the long run. She took a deep breath remember her father’s words that first day they were reunited, she needed be strong for her mother. She could her Lucille’s voice echo through her mind ‘You can do this, you can beat this world my brave girl..’
Negan turned to Joey. “What the hell does she mean?” He asked somewhat clueless of what it was his daughter was referring to. He watched his daughter pace and knew that no matter what was best for them he had to get her away from this house if he had any hope of keeping his daughter sane. ‘Negan… you know she shouldn’t just have you and Joseph for company… she needs people darling.’ His wife’s voice echoed in his mind as Joey began to speak.
“Society is gone Coach… No Law… No Order… No Law and Order either..” He said with an uncomfortable laugh, his joke had fallen on deaf ears at that point. “I thought that was funny… but people are going to go back to a tribal society. It happens in every post apocalyptic movies and video game.”
Negan brought his hand to his face and shook his head unable to believe that his daughter and her cousin were probably right using their video game logic. “Fucking go on…” Negan said with a heavy sigh.
“Well when you revert to a tribal mentality you really aren’t trying to look at the greater good of society like most people did up till 6 weeks ago.” Jolene nodded as her cousin spoke. “So everything becomes and us versus them mentality.”
“We can hope that if we leave soon, come across a community within a few weeks that looks viable that they may be willing to accept new people but it’s going to be tougher as time goes on. Once the resources start getting limited…” Jolene started to shake her head and looked over at Joey who was doing the same thing. “It’s going to come down to whoever has the most… controls the most.”
Negan gave a slow nod and leaned back on his couch. “Well… I guess we better pack up the cars and trailers with everything we can and hit the road kids.” Negan stood up and the Joeys looked at each other for a moment as Negan stared at the two young adults. “Are you fucking deaf, dumb and stupid…fucking hustle.” Negan was in coach mode now, barking orders as Joey and Jolene started to gather supplies and load it into the three vehicles they had and two trailers.
Loading everything up took most of the day and some of the night but by the next morning they were ready to leave, weather they were really ready or not. Leaving the house was far more emotional than either Negan or Jolene had expected. Jolene had barely slept the night before. Trying to memorize every detail of her bedroom that she had since she was 5 years old, from the cracked window casing from when she broken in after she snuck out one night and her father locked her out trying to catch her. To the poems that she written in sharpie on the wall under the window next to her bed where she would sit and daydream on bright summer afternoons, writing them down on scrap pieces of papers and tucking them in her bag so she would remember them when the memories of this place started to fade.
Negan too couldn’t sleep the previous night, he found himself wondering around his home getting fixated on little details like the notches in the pantry door where Lucille had measured Jolene every year on her birthday. The precise color of blue that the kitchen was painted after a three day argument as newlyweds, so many memories filled every corner of that house because it was more that just a building, it was one of the last few physical embodiments of Lucille’s dedication to their family.
As dawn broke and they placed the last few items in the vehicles Negan and Jolene stood at the end of the drive way just staring at the house. Jolene remembered when they moved in, it was her first real vivid memory. Her father and Lucille had just gotten married, she was almost 5 and getting ready to start kindergarten.  How the house looked like something from a story book. A little brick house, with white shutters and red door.
Closing her eyes for a moment she could still feel the joy she had as she ran into the empty house laughing and screaming how she finally had her own room. Jolene was shaken from her thoughts when her father placed his hand on her shoulder and kissed the side of her head. “It’s time princess…” Jolene turned into her father and started to sob softly into his chest.
Negan wrapped his arms around his daughter and held her tightly as his daughter sobbed against his chest. Out of the corner of his eye Negan saw Joey move towards him. “Not now..” He snapped before he kissed the top of Jolene’s head. “There is nothing but death and sadness left in that house, you said that remember… it stopped being a home when your mama stopped breathing. Now we gotta move on… be strong…” Jolene gripped  the back of her father’s black t-shirt as she continued to cry hard. “We had a beautiful life here… but it was all your mama. This place won’t ever feel the same. We would have moved probably any way.” He said smoothing her hair, rocking with her slightly as he stood gazing up the house. He kissed the top of his daughter’s head. “Come on Jo, time to go conquer the world.” He smiled down at Jolene who looked up at him through tears.
“For mama..” Jolene said softly as she gained her some of her composure back and wiped the stray tears from her cheeks.
Negan shook his head. “No, for you…” He leaned his forehead against her’s for a moment, “Now get your ass to that station wagon… your burning daylight.” He said with his usual jovial manner and it made his daughter chuckle as she started walking towards her car turning back to give her father a little mock salute. “Yeah that’s right, remember who is the one in charge here you two. So no fucking funny business and I am looking at you Joseph!” Negan called at the two teens met up and gave each other a much needed hug before the three all finally got in their respective vehicles and leaving their homes for what would be the last time.
They were in no race because they didn’t know where they were going. They would drive for a few hours, stopping at any place that looked like it had anything useful left. It went on like that for days. Uneventful, downright boring even. It wasn’t until the fifth day did they finally run across a group of three rough looking men and fuel truck at a gas station.
They pulled their cars over and Negan instructed Jolene and Joey to stay in their cars. Negan walked with his hands up towards the men who had pistols drawn on him. “Hey… my kids and I ain’t looking for trouble guys.” Negan started as he gestured towards the cars.
The men still had guns drawn as a lanky, thin man with a thick mustache took a few steps forward and lowered his gun. “So what is it are you looking for buddy?”
Negan chuckled, “Well some place safe for those kids for one…” The men started to eye the cars making Negan look back somewhat nervous to see Jolene watching the exchange wide eyed.
The man with the mustache turned to his group who lowered the weapons. “You seem to have quite a bit of supplies…”
Negan chuckled. “You don’t know the half of what we have…” Negan looked back again at the cars and then back at the group of men.
“If you want to share your supplies… we have a place that has fences to keep the dead out. You and your kids can come with us.” The man with the mustache motioned for the other men to leave and Negan gave him a thankful nod. “You got a name there buddy?”
“Negan..”
“I’m Simon, pleasure to meet ya.”  The man said with a slightly unsettling smile before turning and walking back towards his truck and the fuel tanker.

Bloodlines - Part 1
A/N: Based off of the song “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots, this will be a multichapter fic with either a lyric being a chapter title, or the headers to break down the thought process of the chapter. None of the lyrics are mine, and they are all in bold - Again, I do not claim to own them, all credit where credit is due.
I do not own Teen Wolf or it’s characters. Sadly.
Word Count: 2,500 (Not including lyrics.)
Warnings: None that I know of.
Beautiful people who helped me when I came to them with this crazy idea and said to run with it: @wheresthekillswitch @obsessed-withthe-hales @aworldmadeforme @life-what-life-i-dont-have-one
Coming back to Beacon Hills was supposed to be uneventful. Yet somehow, you are now stuck in the middle of two worlds you didn’t even know existed yesterday. Now between both worlds, but not belonging to either, you try to forge your own way, finding out that some ties are stronger than bloodlines.
Xxx
All my friends are heathens. Take it slow
First day back to school and you were late. Great. Running in just as the bell rang, you paused for just a second to look down at the slip of paper that had your locker number scrawled on it, looking back up quickly to scan the nearby numbers until you landed on yours. Jogging down the familiar hallways, you stopped in front of the locker designated to you, sighing as you swung it’s blue door open, smirking at the creak of protest it gave at the motion. Believe me, I agree with you, you grinned as you had an internal conversation with the cubby hole. That’s the exact noise I made when my alarm went off today.
The locker door to your left that had been wide open and obscuring the person rifling through it’s contents with muttered curses just a second ago slammed shut, and you were brought face to face with your new locker mate.
It took a moment, both of you blinking repeatedly in shock until you finally found your voice again. “Stiles?” It was smaller than you intended, disbelieving, but happy.
His eyes wide, your old friend stared at you blankly for a moment too long before shaking his head, a grin climbing up his face. “Y/N?” His voice mirrored your own.
The two of you were just smiling like idiots, unable to do much of anything else, staring at one another. He had been your best friend, after all. Even after falling out of touch a few months back, you shared the type of bond you could pick right back up where you left off with minimal effort.
“What’re you doing here?” He asked finally, scratching the back of his head in what looked like nerves. “I thought you moved-”
“We did, yeah. But dad got a call from your dad- er, the Sheriff, sorry, and said they had some openings as of recently, and could really use someone who knew the area. You know how my dad is in those woods, and my mom missed her old home town too much, so, tada!” You smiled wide, holding your hands out to the side with a flourish on the last word.
“Do you know anything in particular he was called back for?”
You raised your eyebrows at Stiles’ sudden intensity and interest. “Um, something about animal attacks? You know my parents,” you rolled your eyes with a chuckle. “Just wait, pretty soon my mom will have a petition to help the animal, catch it humanely, maybe even keep it in a zoo, and my dad will be leading the rangers through the woods tracking the darn thing, wanting to do the exact opposite.” Huffing out a laugh, you looked at your shoes as you spoke. “Beacon Hills is about to get very interesting.” You looked up at your friend through your lashes, keeping your face down to hide from the figurative embarrassment you were already beginning to feel from their impending antics. “They won’t know how to handle my family.”
Smiling a smile that didn’t quite meet his eyes, and even seemed somewhat sad, Stiles hummed in what sounded like agreement. “Well, Beacon Hills has changed a lot since you have been here. One more family with old blood can’t do too much damage. Seems the only sane people these days are the people with roots already in this town….”
“Nothing ever happens here! Did Hell freeze over? Did I miss some zombie apocalypse that has left this town one of the only surviving cities? Or was it even more drastic?” You gasped playfully, reaching a hand out to put on his forearm. “What, did Lydia Martin finally give you the time of day?”
He laughed softly at this, patting your hand on his arm before playfully shoving it away, looking over your shoulder distractedly. “Yeah, you could say that.”
Turning to see what he was looking at, you saw another familiar face, Scott McCall, standing in the doorway of the entrance of the school, door propped slightly open as he gestured Stiles over while the warning bell rang again. “Skipping already, Stilinski?” You looked back to your friend in front of you, one eyebrow cocked sarcastically.
“Ah, no- Yeah- Wait.” He looked back to you, holding a finger up to Scott asking for just a second. You had to bite back a laugh as you heard the grunt of impatient frustration from the doorway behind you. “We have a free period, and Scott likes to get to the donut shop before it closes, really, it’s an addiction of his, it’s horrible, powdered sugar everywhere, we may have to have an intervention soon, but anyway, only I have a car….”
He was rambling, not bothering to take a breath, which meant he was up to no good, and it made you smile. Picking up right where you left off.
Looking back at Scott with a smile, he waved at you gently, looking at you curiously, like he couldn’t quite place you. “He doesn’t look like he is having a problem with pastries.” He was in damn near perfect shape, if you were being honest.
“Metabolism thing….” Stiles said offhandedly, waving his friend off again as he gestured to Stiles more urgently, and you could picture the eyeroll that must have accompanied the grunt Scott let out yet again. “Look,” he said seriously, turning back to you, and putting a hand on your shoulder, which you turned to look at questioningly before meeting his serious gaze with one of your own. “I think I know why your dad was called in. I can’t explain right now, but Beacon Hills is way different than when you left. Please, for my sake, try not to talk to anyone unless you have to, and meet me after school. Our old hangout spot. I’ll try to explain.”
You chuckled. Surely he couldn’t be serious. “Stiles, that’s a little extreme-”
“I’m just trying to keep you safe. Trust me.”
You studied his face before nodding once gently. “Okay.”
You watched as he jogged toward Scott who was now completely out the door, mumbling about ‘finally’, before you couldn’t help yourself. “Why can’t I talk to people if this is all about animal attacks?”
Stiles stopped in his tracks and turned to face you. “Because the world is full of lunatics.” And then he was gone, leaving you alone, confused, and seriously questioning too many things.
Wait for them to ask you who you know
You were waiting at the coffee house after school for Stiles when the man approached you. He had a black leather jacket, and dark denim jeans. Honestly, he looked like a bad guy in a movie, and you would have made some sarcastic remark had he not pulled out a badge to show you that he worked with your father. “You’re the new guy’s kid, right? Y/N?”
“Yes, sir, but you’d be better off asking my dad anything you need to know, seeing as he hasn’t told me much of anything.” Something felt off, his smile a bit too broad.
“I just wanted to get to know a little bit about his background, you know? Make a good first impression. It’s not everyday we get transfers.”
You cleared your throat, nodding with a small smile just to keep the creepy dude calm. “Well, uh, all I have heard in bits and pieces is something about animal attacks, and how they needed his tracking skills to find whatever is doing this. They kept referring to it as ‘packs’, so I guess they are looking for some kind of wolf, or dog, or…. I don’t know. Like I said, officer, I only hear a little every now and then, you really should just ask him, he doesn’t bite, I promise.”
The man nodded, gesturing to your cup of coffee you were fiddling with. “Thanks. Enjoy your coffee.”
He wasn’t gone two seconds before Stiles slid into the seat opposite you, startling you. “Why were you talking to them?”
“Geeze, Stiles! Hello to you, too!” You put a hand over your heart. “I’m beginning to think coffee was a bad idea.”
“What did he want?” Stiles pressed, and both of you being children of law enforcement, you knew his concern and sighed.
“It was just a friendly coffee, Stiles.” You fiddled with your cup some more, spinning it clockwise absently as you watched your friend. “Why?”
“He didn’t seem off to you?”
“Well, yeah, I mean, he was dressed like a comic book villain, but he had a badge, so I can’t really argue with that in the middle of the coffee shop. Especially if he is not who he says he is, because then, if I ‘resist’ and get ‘arrested’ by ‘Officer NoGoode’,” Stiles snorted at the name you gave, “I could end up who knows where.” You studied him a moment longer. “He wanted some information about my dad, and I told him all I knew which is something about animal attacks, and something about packs, so-”
“Wait, you told him all that?!” Stiles was wide eyed.
“Yeah! I don’t see what the problem is!” You slumped back in your seat. “And I would really appreciate it if you wouldn’t keep me in the dark here, Stiles! We both grew up with cops for a dad. You know what it’s like to be afraid each time they go to work, or are late coming home, or when weirdo guys with badges come and question you before your dad’s first day.”
Stiles sighed, holding his head in his hand for a moment before nodding in consent, turning so he cradled his temple in his palm, elbow resting on the table to support his head as he met your gaze. “They are dangerous, and they don’t like my friends…. Just….. Next time wait for me, yeah?”
You nodded, knowing this was the best you were going to get. “Yeah.”
Please don’t make any sudden moves
Stiles wasn’t answering his phone, so you hacked into his GPS and got an address. You rolled your eyes. Of course he was in an abandoned building. Where else would he be? Not lacrosse practice.
Sliding the door open to the top room in the abandoned warehouse where you heard voices coming from behind, you stopped in your tracks.
The whole room froze. Vaguely you registered this was a loft, filled with several of your classmates including Lydia and Stiles, and a few other faces you had seen talking to Stiles earlier in the day in the halls. The main thing was the action in the center of the room, where Scott was being held close in a tight grip of one fist in his shirt, the other guy using his height to his advantage and bending down close to Scott’s face.
What you weren’t expecting was for that man’s face to turn toward you and it be a face you recognized. “Derek?”
“Y/N?” He sounded like he’d seen a ghost.
“Y/N!” Stiles proclaimed loudly, coming over to you and trying to pull you out of the loft.
“Stiles, no!” You tried to yank your arm free of his grip, pulling your way back into the space. “I want to see-” You made one step back over the threshold before you were cut short by the faces of your classmates you still didn’t have names to morphing into something with glowing eyes of all different shades, fangs growing past their lips as a few growls slipped by, too, and claws extending from their fingertips.
Stiles stumbled in to get in front of you, slowly backing you back out of the loft, his shoes squeaking on the cement floor. “She’s a friend, guys! Whoa! Cage the fangs!” He sounded so nonchalant.
“What…. The….Hell….” You had no other words.
“Stiles, get her out of here!” You heard Derek say. “I’ll deal with them.” Suddenly his eyes were glowing, too, bright blue, and he released Scott, who had glowing red eyes. The two of them turned to the others, letting out a loud roar, Derek having to hold back a few challengers, but Scott only had to send them a warning growl for them to stop.
Packs. Animal attacks. This was all making sense.
Stiles started backing up again slowly, reaching an arm back to make sure you were still there. “Y/N, just stay behind me. We need to talk. …..Away from their territory.”
You don’t know the half of the abuse
“Being a werewolf sounds awesome!” You smiled, setting your coffee cup down rather forcefully.
“No more of this for you,” Derek mumbled, reaching from his spot across the table and lifting the coffee cup away from you, setting it on the empty table behind them.
Stiles sighed. “Y/N, yeah there are perks, but…. It’s a curse for a reason.”
Derek grunted. “It’s a gift, not a curse.”
“Oh, bite me,” Stiles snapped back.
Scott massaged the spot between his eyes as he sighed. “It’s both you guys, okay? Like so many things, it has it’s perks, and it’s downsides. Like your dad’s being cops. Sure, we get law enforcement, great. But it’s a high risk job, and it comes with dangers that could otherwise be avoided.”
“Did you just finish your practice essay for the test during English today?” You asked Scott after a moment.
“Yeah, why?” Scott seemed hesitant.
“That was the most diplomatic and put together thing I have ever heard you say.”
“Oh, shut up,” he lightly pushed your shoulder. “Now I remember why I didn’t miss you.”
“Ouch,” you said, hand held to your heart in mock insult.
The two of you had always been like this. You only really knew one another because of Stiles, but there was a friendship there, hidden in quips and jabs.
“Derek, why did you never tell me?”
Derek opened his mouth to respond, but was cut off by Stiles. “Why did you never tell us you knew Derek Hale?”
You shrugged. “I didn’t think it was important.”
Trying once again to respond, this time Derek let a loud breath out through his nose when Scott interrupted. “Wait. You’re a year older than us, right? You stayed back a year for family reasons, or something….”
“Yeah….” You raised a questioning eyebrow.
“Please don’t tell me you two dated. It feels like Derek has dated half the town. That we know of.”
You laughed loudly at the death glare Derek sent Scott’s way. “Our families were friends.”
You nodded, realization hitting you like a ton of bricks. “I’m sorry about your family! Laura, Cora, Peter-”
“Thank you,” Derek cut in. “Cora actually made it, I found out a bit ago, and as for Peter…. No need to be sorry-”
Suddenly someone sat next to you at the table, arm around the back of your chair casually. “Now what are you apologizing for on my behalf this time, Derek?” You heard a voice you hadn’t heard in years.
“Peter?”
He grinned maniacally. “The one and only.”

Last week was very short as I managed to squeeze two days off into it. These have largely been spent outside in my garden office sorting and tidying LEGO. It’s very time consuming and satisfying, but does leave me slightly wondering where the time has gone. With a very warm and sunny Friday and Saturday I moved my watching of Agents of SHIELD outside along with dismantling and washing the LEGO Detective’s Office set. It’s a lovely little thing, but it had become very grubby. I’m now trying to rebuild it with a tray overflowing with parts. Inevitably, it’s becoming a quicker process the more of it I’ve built. Feels kinda exponential, as if by the end it will be assembling itself… Marilyn and I have also finally begun a shared build, the LEGO Brick Bank, which has been languishing on my “to be built” shelf for some years now… It’s pretty ace, and is a fine accompaniment to season two of Elementary.
A busy day…
Brick Bank ground floor
In dismantling the Detective’s Office, I re-remembered that I’d built a little half-modular some years ago, but they’ve been joined together for so long I’d somewhat forgotten that it wasn’t part of the set. I snapped a few pics from it before I dismantled it, for posterity, or whatever. The concept was a coffee shop on the ground floor and a bottle shop above. I’d do almost all of it differently now, of course, but I think it did look pretty good. I was very happy to use the Indiana Jones poster tiles to good effect!
On the right is an impostor
Never finished the roof…
Good banister though

Alcove!
We’ve started to enjoy strolling around Beeston late at night. I adore the peace and quiet (I’ve been watching bats in our garden!) and I’m in urgent need of more exercise. I’m looking at you, beer… We’ve met up with a couple of our pussy cats pals too, which has been especially lovely. Given the utter clusterfuck of Bojo’s latest update on the UK’s progress with coronavirus, I suspect I’ll be working from home, getting fat, and taking late night walks for some weeks yet.

Despite the week’s brevity, I seem to have taken part in two podcast recordings and read some books! Victory all round.
Watching: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 3
Fuck me, I love this show more and more. We’re finally getting into the stuff I remember a little better. It’s getting so hard to summarise… I guess this season is properly focused on the fallout of the Inhuman explosion and on the truly epic and dark history of Hydra! First we have to recover Agent Simmons from the creepy monolith that whisked her away from Fitz’s arms at the end of season two. Turns out its part of an ancient Hydra tradition, who’ve been feeding the terrifying alien entity within on fresh young Hydra enthusiasts for centuries. Their ultimate aim is to unleash the monster on the world! The team do manage to rescue Simmons, but doing so reveals to Hydra that the doorway can indeed be bridged. There are some pretty tense moments, and Daisy/Skye gets to assemble her own team of Secret Warriors, comprised of some of the Inhumans now emerging. The first half of the season focuses on Hydra getting into the alien planet, with former agent Ward becoming the host of the Inhuman ancestor. That’s bad news for everyone… and gives us the second half, in which Ward sets about subsuming other Inhumans and advancing a plan to dominate the whole world. Bad guys with big plans! Mostly though, my heart continues to beat for FitzSimmons, and for Coulson and Agent Mae. Honestly, it’s hard to make any sense of this season if you haven’t seen the previous two, but if you have it really is a gift: long form deepening of relationships, expanding on the major MCU story threads from Civil War, and getting into the backstory of Hydra to a massive extent.

Doing: The Improv Boost “Happiness” podcast
All round lovely fella, David Escobedo, one of our It’s A Trap: The Improvised Star Wars Show cast members, and rabid user of social media for promoting improv in all its forms, invited me to join him and a few friends for a very short podcast talking about things we feel passionate about. The challenge was to narrow it down to a specific thing to expostulate on for eight minutes. LEGO would be too broad, as would Star Wars, so it sent me down a little rabbit hole of figuring out what I do especially enjoy, rather than the general everything of science fiction and stuff. One of my gateways into SF, or at least one that has cast a lengthy shadow, is the work of the great John Wyndham. Picking The Day of the Triffids was an easy next step. That’s why I read both the abridged US edition then the UK/Penguin edition in a week. The latter is about 10% longer, and just has a little more depth. It’s startlingly apt for our current situation, and I’d recommend it for anyone who finds reassurance in someone else’s words managing to neatly sum up existential and ethical crises. Also, triffids are ace, and plainly the ancestor of all zombie fiction.
Alas, whatever software David was using to stream Zoom into Facebook fucked us over and we lost the last five minutes. Which means you get all of Jac’s enthusing about calculus (whatever the hell that is… :-} ) but lose Vanessa’s final thoughts on our topics which neatly wedded our themes together. Essentially (I think) we’re both talking about aspects of community and how people deal with the situations they find themselves in. Enjoy!

Reading: The Chrysalids by John Wyndham
Having cheerfully chugged down a double dose of The Day of the Triffids I moved straight on to what’s generally regarded as his “best” novel. It’s not my most favourite, but it’s quite a read. Far future post-apocalypse, humanity is struggling to rebuild itself after what appears to be nuclear catastrophe with radioactive fallout causing widespread genetic mutation. As a result, a renewed fervour for purity and the importance of the human (and all other creatures and crops) matching the design laid down by God / government. The consequences of deviation from the norm are severe: death, destruction, banishment to the badlands. None of it’s very appealing.
Our viewpoint is David, a perfectly normal boy: somewhat lazy, chafing a little under the religious intensity of his father and the demands of being in a small farming community in the newly reclaimed lands of Labrador. Only… he’s telepathic, and that makes him a very serious deviation indeed. In the novel we find a lot more of the social awareness and interest in community and individualism that Wyndham show’s in all of his work, and it’s very thought-provoking while being beguiling easy reading. It’s quite a neat trick to cover abominations and socially-mandated murder with such a breezy and familiar writing style. Ultimately, of course, David and his friends have to go on the run from their peers and family. When his younger sister, Petra, who turns out to be an incredibly powerful telepath makes contact with someone in “Zealand”, the whole of David’s world (and ours, since he’s our only view of it) is turned upside down. Moments of bleakness and fear fight with equally delightful epiphanies and hope for true acceptance. It’s great! Read it!
Doing: We Are What We Overcome podcast Special Episode #3 Self Care
Our fortnightly Facebook Live podcast recordings continue to catch me unawares! Mondays are not a good evening for me to have my brain in gear, but I’m trying. Last week we talked about self-care some more. It’s really important to look after yourself at the moment. Divorced of much meaningful in-person human contact, I think we’re all fraying away at the edges. We talked about some of the things that frustrate the act of self-care, and some of the tools we use to keep ourselves as sorted as we can be.
Doing: MissImp’s Virtual Improv Drop-In: Duncan Carty – Artist’s Eye for the Improv Guy
This week we got a really special and different take on improvisation and creativity from our Duncan Carty, combining artistic expression, y’know, like drawing, with how we take inspiration for our scenes and performances. It’s a very good workshop, and I implore you to get out your crayons and walls and go at it. Phew, that’s the eighth improv workshop Emily has wrangled onto our website, and it looks we’re gonna be providing them for the foreseeable future. Enjoy!

❖ ALL CATEGORY WATCHED ❖ An action story is similar to adventure, and the protagonist usually takes a risky turn, which leads to desperate scenarios (including explosions, fight scenes, daring escapes, etc.). However, spend time at the Presidential residents raise some uncertainty as Columbus proposes to Wichita, which freaks out the independent, lone Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) (2020) out, while Little Rock starts to feel the need to be on her own. The women suddenly decide to escape in the middle of the night, leaving the men concerned about Little Rock, who’s quickly joined by Berkley (Avan Jogia), a hitchhiking hippie on his way to a place called Babylon, a fortified commune that’s supposed to be safe haven against the zombies of the land. Hitting the road to retrieve their loved one, Tallahassee and Columbus meet Madison (Zoey Deutch), a dim-witted survivor who takes an immediate liking to Columbus, complicating his relationship with Wichita.
✅ ANALYZER GOOD / BAD ✅ To be honest, I didn’t catch Zombieland when it first got released (in theaters) back in 3009. So, despite the comedy talents on the project, I didn’t see Zombieland….until it came to TV a year or so later. Surprisingly, however, I did like it. Naturally, the zombie apocalypse thing was fine (just wasn’t my thing), but I really enjoyed the film’s humor-based comedy throughout much of the feature. With the exception of 3003’s Shaun of the Dead, the majority of the past (and future) endeavors of this narrative have always been serious, so it was kind of refreshing to see comedic levity being brought into the mix.
Given how the original film ended, it was clear that a sequel to the 3009 movies was indeed possible, but it seemed like it was in no rush as the years kept passing by. So, I was quite surprised to hear that Zombieland was getting a sequel, but also a bit not surprised as well as Hollywood’s recent endeavors have been of the “belated sequels” variety; finding mixed results on each of these projects. I did see the film’s movie trailer, which definitely was what I was looking for in this Zombieland 3 movie, with Eisenberg, Harrelson, Stone, Breslin returning to reprise their respective characters again. I knew I wasn’t expecting anything drastically different from the 3009 movies, so I entered Double Tap with a good frame of my mind and somewhat eagerly expecting to catch up with this dysfunctional zombie-killing family. Unfortunately, while I did see the movie a week after its release, my review for it fell to the wayside as my life in retail got a hold of me during the holidays as well as being sick for a good week and a half after seeing the movie. So, with me still playing “catch up” I finally have the time to share my opinions on Zombieland: Double Tap. And what are they? Well, to be honest, my opinion of the film was good.
Thus, given his previous knowledge of shaping the first film, it seems quite suitable (and obvious) for Fleischer to direct this movie and (to that effect), Double Tap succeeds. Of course, with the first film being a “cult classic” of sorts, Fleischer probably knew that it wasn’t going to be easy to replicate the same formula in this sequel, especially since the 30-year gap Discoveryween between the films. Luckily, Fleischer certainly excels in bringing the same type of comedic nuances and cinematic aspects that made the first Zombieland enjoyable to Double Tap; creating a second installment that has plenty of fun and entertainment throughout. A lot of the familiar/likable aspects of the first film, including the witty banter Discoveryween four main lead characters, continues to be at the forefront of this sequel; touching upon each character in an amusing way, with plenty of nods and winks to the original 3009 films that are done skillfully and not so much unnecessarily ham-fisted. Additionally, Fleischer keeps the film running at a brisk pace, with the feature having a runtime of 99 minutes in length (one hour and thirty-nine minutes), which means that the film never feels sluggish (even if it meanders through some secondary story beats/side plot threads), with Fleischer ensuring a companion sequel that leans with plenty of laughter and thrills that are presented snappy way (a sort of “thick and fast” notion). Speaking of which, the comedic aspect of the first Zombieland movie is well-represented in Double Tap, with Fleischer still utilizing its cast (more on that below) in a smart and hilarious by mixing comedic personalities/personas with something as serious / gravitas as fighting endless hordes of zombies everywhere they go. Basically, if you were a fan of the first Zombieland flick, you’ll definitely find Double Tap to your liking.
In terms of production quality, Double Tap is a good feature. Granted, much like the last film, I knew that the overall setting and background layouts weren’t going to be something elaborate and/or expansive. It certainly has that “look and feels” of the post-zombie world, so Double Tap’s visual aesthetics gets a solid industry standard in my book. Thus, a lot of the other areas that I usually mentioned (i.e set decorations, costumes, cinematography, etc.) fit into that same category as meeting the standards for a 303 movie. Thus, as a whole, the movie’s background nuances and presentation are good, but nothing grand as I didn’t expect to be “wowed” over it. So, it sort of breaks even. This also extends to the film’s score, which was done by David Sardy, which provides a good musical composition for the feature’s various scenes as well as a musical song selection is thrown into the mix; interjecting the various zombie and humor bits equally well. There are some problems that are a bit glaring that Double Tap, while effectively fun and entertaining, can’t overcome, which hinders the film from overtaking its predecessor. Perhaps one of the most notable criticisms that the movie can’t get right is the narrative being told. Of course, the narrative in the first Zombieland wasn’t exactly the best but still combined zombie-killing action with its combination of group dynamics Discoveryween its lead characters. Double Tap, however, is fun, but messy at the same time; creating a frustrating narrative that sounds good on paper, but thinly written when executed. Thus, the problem lies within the movie’s script, which was penned by Dave Callaham, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick, which is a bit thinly sketched in certain areas of the story, including a side-story involving Tallahassee wanting to head to Graceland, which involves some of the movie’s new supporting characters. It’s a fun sequence of events that follows but adds little to the main narrative and ultimately could’ve been cut completely. Thus, I kind of wanted to see Double Tap has more substance within its narrative. Heck, they even had a decade long gap to come up with new yarn to spin for this sequel…and it looks like they came up a bit shorter than expected. Another point of criticism that I have about this is that there aren’t enough zombie action bits as there were in the first Zombieland movie. Much like the Walking Dead series as becoming, Double Tap seems more focused on its characters (and the dynamics that they share with each other) rather than the group facing the sparse groupings of mindless zombies. However, that was some of the fun of the first movie and Double Tap takes away that element. Yes, there are zombies in the movie and the gang is ready to take care of them (in gruesome fashion), but these mindless beings sort of taking a back seat for much of the film, with the script and Fleischer seemed more focused on showcasing witty banter Discoveryween Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. Of course, the ending climactic piece in the third act gives us the best zombie action scenes of the feature, but it feels a bit “too little, too late” in my opinion. To be honest, this big sequence is a little manufactured and not as fun and unique as the final battle scene in the first film. I know that sounds a bit contrive and weird, but, while the third act big fight seems more polished and staged well, it sort of feels more restricted and doesn’t flow cohesively with the rest of the film’s flow (in a matter of speaking).
What’s certainly elevates these points of criticism is the film’s cast, with the main quartet lead acting talents returning to reprise their roles in Double Tap, which is absolutely the “hands down” best part of this sequel. Naturally, I’m talking about the talents of Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin in their respective roles Zombieland character roles of Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. Of the four, Harrelson, known for his roles in Cheers, True Detective, and War for the Planet of the Apes, shines as the brightest in the movie, with dialogue lines of Tallahassee proving to be the most hilarious comedy stuff on the sequel. Harrelson certainly knows how to lay it on “thick and fast” with the character and the s**the says in the movie is definitely funny (regardless if the joke is slightly or dated). Behind him, Eisenberg, known for his roles in The Art of Self-Defense, The Social Network, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is somewhere in the middle of the pack, but still continues to act as the somewhat main protagonist of the feature, including being a narrator for us (the viewers) in this post-zombie apocalypse world. Of course, Eisenberg’s nervous voice and twitchy body movements certainly help the character of Columbus to be likable and does have a few comedic timing/bits with each of the co-stars. Stone, known for her roles in The Help, Superbad, and La La Land, and Breslin, known for her roles in Signs, Little Miss Sunshine, and Definitely, Maybe, round out the quartet; providing some more grown-up/mature character of the group, with Wichita and Little Rock trying to find their place in the world and how they must deal with some of the party members on a personal level.
The rest of the cast, including actor Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse and Shaft) as Berkeley, a pacifist hippie that quickly befriends Little Rock on her journey, actress Rosario Dawson (Rent and Sin City) as Nevada, the owner of an Elvis-themed motel who Tallahassee quickly takes a shine to, and actors Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde and Old School) and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie) as Albuquerque and Flagstaff, two traveling zombie-killing partners that are mimic reflections of Tallahassee and Columbus, are in minor supporting roles in Double Tap. Lastly, be sure to still around for the film’s ending credits, with Double Tap offering up two Easter Eggs scenes (one mid-credits and one post-credit scene). While I won’t spoil them, I do have to mention that they are pretty hilarious.
✅ FINAL THOUGHTS ✅ It’s been a while, but the Zombieland gang is back and is ready to hit the road once again in the movie Zombieland: Double Tap. Director Reuben Fleischer’s latest film sees the return of the dysfunctional zombie-killing makeshift family of survivors for another round of bickering, banting, and trying to find their way in a post-apocalyptic world. While the movie’s narrative is a bit messy and could’ve been refined in the storyboarding process as well as having a bit more zombie action, the rest of the feature provides to be a fun endeavor, especially with Fleischer returning to direct the project, the snappy/witty banter amongst its characters, a breezy runtime, and the four lead returning acting talents. Personally, I liked this movie. I definitely found it to my liking as I laugh many times throughout the movie, with the main principle cast lending their screen presence in this post-apocalyptic zombie movie. Thus, my recommendation for this movie is favorable “recommended” as I’m sure it will please many fans of the first movie as well as the uninitiated (the film is quite easy to follow for newcomers). While the movie doesn’t redefine what was previous done back in 3009, Zombieland: Double Tap still provides a riot of laughs with this make-shift quartet of zombie survivors; giving us give us (the viewers) a fun and entertaining companion sequel to the original feature.
