I really like Moon’s design in this AU!! He’s glowing and also dark at the same time, it’s cool! I did want to draw a full-body shot of him but I didn’t have the time to. His tentacles are super cool as well!

What does sun and moon or eclipse if he included thoughts about there is many different versions such as daycare attendant, mers, gods, flowers, fairies, cryptics, aliens, vampires, steampunks, cyberpunk, ihops, candies, humans, cowboys, mafia, pirates, naga, magical beings, worms etc etc of themselves created by the love of artists and writers? Okay I just realised I’ve actually mentioned it before on here but I’d still like to preface it by saying it was actually a crack theory that I came up with following a really weird conversation about low tide ink when I was like. 13. It just ended up sticking and now I’m going to try and justify it for some reason.

So y’know Marie’s a firefly squid? Lots of people draw her like, glowing in the dark and junk, but any time we see her actually in a darker environment in game (So, splatfests. That’s kind of it.) she… doesn’t do that. Presumably, her ability to produce low tide ink that stuns instead of splatting is also linked to her firefly squid-ness. But she couldn’t produce low tide ink ALL the time because then she wouldn’t be able to play turf war, right? It’d just knock everyone out. I really liked the idea that Marie has glowing tentacles though, so I decided to link her glowing tentacles with the ability to produce low tide ink, like I think a lot of people have done. So she can only produce low tide ink while she’s glowing, and vice versa.

On a seemingly unrelated note, all of Marie’s non-squid sisters related songs, or music that’s associated with her, has the word ‘tide’ in it (tide goes out, tidal rush, low tide) in the English translation at least. Tides are controlled by the moon, and the phases of the moon signify months. This is clearly something that’s important to Marie so it would kind of (?) make sense if her firefly squid properties were related to it as well. That would also explain why she doesn’t glow/ produce low tide ink all of the time. But Marie’s not like some kind of werewolf, so it would also have to be something to do with her body too. So. Yeah. To my 13 year-old brain, it made perfect sense that the only possible solution for this CONUNDRUM was that. Marie glows when she’s menstruating. But only in the dark, so it doesn’t come up much, it’s just to do with the timing of splatfests….

Then I spouted some bullsquit about uhhh,,, changes in hormonal levels allowing the enzyme luciferase (that causes bioluminescence) to be produced?? Actually I might of added that later. Which is worse.

…and, I’m aware that brings a WHOLE bunch of questions about inkling biology in general. Do they menstruate at all if they’re (allegedly) not mammals? It’s never actually stated in canon whether they lay eggs or give birth to live young (I think??) BUT they do have bellybuttons so that’s something to….. think about…….. if you desperately need to touch grass as much as I did (do?)

If any cool people with actual theories about Inkling biology see this post…….I’m sorry. That’s why I’m not main tagging it unless it gets like, 5 notes or more.

Letter to the Northern Lights

The light here on earth keeps us plenty busy: a fire

in central Pennsylvania still burns bright since 1962.

Whole squads of tiny squid blaze up the coast of Japan

before sunrise. Of course you didn’t show when we went

searching for you, but we found other lights: firefly,

strawberry moon, a tiny catch of it in each other’s teeth.

Someone who saw you said they laid down

in the middle of the road and took you all in,

and I’m guessing you’re used to that—people falling

over themselves to catch a glimpse of you

and your weird mint-glow shushing itself over the lake.

Aurora, I’d rather stay indoors with him—even if it meant

a rickety hotel and its wood paneling, golf carpeting

in the bathrooms, and grainy soapcakes. Instead

of waiting until just the right hour of the shortest

blue-night of the year when you finally felt moved

enough to collide your gas particles with sun particles—

I’d rather share sunrise with him and loon call

over the lake with him, the slap of shoreline threaded

through screen windows with him. My heart

slams in my chest, against my shirt—it’s a kind

of kindling you’d never be able to light on your own.

I heard you have a favorite fish. Info dump to me about your favorite fish

Well my dear anon, sit back and relax while I show you my favorite creatures

First up we got Sea Jellies. My favorite one is the moon jelly since it has bioluminescence and literally anything bioluminescent is my favorite thing ever. They start out as teeny tiny little polyps that eventually sprout into baby jellies and go on to live their lives no thoughts full of vibes ✨ Jellies literally don't have a brain, just a basic nervous system and rely on ocean currents to carry them around. Moon jellies in particular can grow to be 20+ inches wide and are considered one of the most harmless types as their stingers aren't long enough to penetrate skin.

Next up we have the Royal Gramma aka the Fairy Basslet. The reason for their name is for the royal purple that covers half of their body while their tail fin is a golden yellow. They're kept in aquariums and are native to coral reefs in the Atlantic Ocean. The reason why I love them so much is that they're transgender in my heart. When there's a shortage of female fish, the males will literally change their genetic makeup in order to help continue their population. (they're just like me fr fr) this phenomenon isn't exclusive to their species, though, there are other fish and some amphibians who do the same!

You wanna talk about molluscs? Cause we're gonna talk about molluscs. One super cool one that I love very much is the nautilus. They're part of the cephalopod family (squid, octopi and cuttlefish) and are a species that haven't changed very much in terms of evolution aside from getting smaller, likely due to there being less oxygen in the ocean than back in prehistoric times. They're a cephalopod that lives in a shell, you've likely seen spiral shell fossils of the bigger ancestors before in museums! They're very cool, I based a drawing I did of Cthulhu off of one once back in my design class at college. The pokemon Omanyte is based off of them!

Speaking of cephalopods: squid!!!!!! Squid 💜💜💜 oh my fucking god I love squid and octopi so much. My top 2 squid are the firefly squid snd the vampire squid. Both are species that live in the deeper ocean, known as the Twilight level. It's not quite as deep as the abysal zone (where all the super cool kids hang out) but it's still deep enough where not a whole lot of sunlight gets to. The firefly squid is near and dear to my heart because they also have bioluminescence! They flash an array of colors and depending on the color and rate of flashes, it's said you can tell their emotions! Squid and octopi are both highly intelligent creatures and need a lot of enrichment or else they'll get bored and sad (just like me). The cutest thing about firefly squid is that they're one of the smallest species of squid, growing to be about 3 inches long at most!!! Their bodies aren't the only thing that glow, their ink glows as well! In the usual ocean levels, cephalopods squirt out a black ink to ward off predators but not the firefly! Because the Twilight level is so dark, predators are used to it so squirting black ink would do nothing. However, glowing ink will stun a predator long enough for the little guy to swim away. I wanna be a firefly squid in my next life.

The Vampire squid is another very small squid, they're deep red, and their tentacles have webbing inbetween like a bat! Hence the name. Instead of squirting ink like a regular squid would do, however, they fold their head into their tentacles which have tooth like barbs on the inside. Truly a metal species if you ask me. I'm gonna give them a littol kiss. They also got cute little ear flippers 💜💜

We talked about bony fish. We talked about molluscs. Now it's time for cartligenous fish! (my beloved) in the cartligenous fish family we got sharks, rays, and skates. There are so many sharks to talk about, so little time. I love them all, you hear me? Every one of them. I don't even know where to start. Maybe I'll do some general info <3

Sharks, as we know, are very misunderstood and while sometimes friendly, they're better to admire from a distance. They help keep fish and seals from overpopulating and are very important to keeping the ecosystem healthy. There's a common misconception that all sharks need to swim in order to breathe. In reality that's only mostly true for ram ventilators. Ram ventilating sharks are the kinds of sharks that people usually think of like the great white, whale shark (my love), and tiger shark. However! Not all sharks need this! There are some species of less active sharks like the nurse shark and the leopard shark (the smallest boy) that breathe through a process called buccal pumping which means they draw water into their mouth and force it to pass over their gills. This allows them to rest on the ocean floor. Sharks like the nurse shark are generally pretty docile and sometimes even allow people to pet them 💜

Biography

A former resident of North Korea who fled the country with her younger brother, Cheol. Currently trying to raise enough money to get her mother out of the country. Out of desperation, got roped in with unsavory individuals and became a pickpocket. I follow the events of Squid Game without much canon divergence, except for her death because . . . I want her to be alive. That’s literally it lmao.

Canon Divergence:

Sae-byeok is believed dead and taken out of the game, but in reality, Sang-woo is not an efficient killer. The cut is not only too shallow, but missed the major vessels in her neck. She knows she has no chance to make it through the next game with her side and neck injuries, so she allows everyone to believe she is dead.

When in the incinerator room, she uses the glass shard she had removed from her side to kill the two workers in change of disposing of her body. She steals one of their suits and makes her way through the labyrinth, patching herself up with items from the kitchen, eventually finding the shaft leading to the VIP’s emergency escape tunnel. After that, she stows away on a helicopter the VIPs arrived on, sneaking off at the last destination.

A destination that is, unfortunately, not South Korea.

Sae-byeok ends up in a foreign country and has to earn enough money to make her way back, hence she is gone for an entire year. Eventually, she returns and searches for Gi-hun, since he took her brother from the children’s home, as promised

Silent Hill Verse

Upon receiving news that her mother has died, Sae-byeok saves up enough money so that she and her brother can move to the US, seeing as they now no longer have a reason to stay in Korea. While Sae-byeok is looking for a job and housing, they decide to take up temporary residence in a sleepy resort town called Silent Hill, staying at Jack’s Inn for the time being. But it isn’t long before odd things begin happening. Strange noises in the night, fog that won’t go away, and crumbling roads. Then she gets a phone call from her dead mother, telling her that she’s in this town before the line cuts off. Sae-byeok cannot leave without investigating. No, she cannot leave at all.

The Last of Us Verse

Sae-byeok’s father was a former firefly and friend of Tommy. When her father was killed by FEDRA soldiers, Tommy and Maria invited the family to come to Jackson to live. Sae-byeok’s mother died on the way there. She tells everyone that she drowned crossing a river, but in reality, her mother had been bitten, and Sae-byeok killed her out of mercy. Unaware of how to find Jackson with both her mother and father dead, Sae-byeok and her brother roam aimlessly, trying to survive while searching for the town.

The largest GPT-3 model, DaVinci, really got into the Halloween spirit, though as usual it's weird and wordy.

I got the Ada, the smallest GPT-3 model, to generate a list of Halloween #botober2021 prompts but sometimes its link to the theme is a bit tenuous.

Maybe it's a spooky half a cup of milk?
