Now I'm a little shocked going back and realizing how popular this fic got! I'm rather proud of the character development in it, but to find out that it's the most viewed&kudosed Casey/RJ fic on ao3? Четверговая соль 🎶

После будоражащих Sum41 хочу поставить что-то тихо-кайфовое. Но и тут эмоции - через край!

В связи с этой песней не обойтись без пары слов о фильме, для которого она написана. "Рок-н-ролльщики" - уже довольно старая лента, но я могу рекомендовать её всем любителям музыки, Ирландии и авторского кино, кто вдруг пропустил. Даже если колледж-рок и подростковые чувства вам не по душе, в фильме всё это показано с нужной долей иронии и одновременно искренности.

В самом треке нет припева как такового - он встроен в куплеты и используется как аутро. Есть бридж, который появляется перед третьим куплетом, а в нём, в свою очередь, авторы позволили себе вольность с ритмом стихов и, соответственно, сделали вариацию в музыке. Драматичный бридж противопоставлен мажорным и легковесным куплетам за счёт растягивания нот и добавления минора к концу (а потом там вообще piano, тоже к драме). Ну, а мои любимые слова - "...you were racing like a cannonball // And roller skates and sky blue", мне нравится соположение яркой метафоры с бытовыми деталями.

Хоть Брайан Адамс и король проникновенной музыки (да, увидите его - передайте, чтобы забрал награду), но здесь по какой-то причине устроил напиханку. По форме она как раз похожа на предыдущий трек, только средняя часть получилась несколько затянутой и сумбурной, а потом куплеты и припевы совсем перемешались.

Но нет, это ни в коем случае не плохая песня, я плохие не ставлю. Конкретно эта версия, в отличие от киношной, вполне нормально слушается - снова благодаря фортепианному аккомпанименту. Поскольку он не меняется, произведение звучит более целостно, и становится понятно, в чём же там дело. А именно: средняя часть продолжает основную тему, но раз за разом не доходит до финала - с вариациями, конечно, но в целом это тот же мотив. Таким образом нарастает напряжение, которое разрешается к финалу. В тексте лучший момент - "I'll run like a river, I'll follow the sun // I'll fly like an eagle to where I belong".

Добавим немного синтетического звучания! Нечастое явление в подборках - довольно развёрнутое интро, которое потом пойдёт аккомпаниментом к припеву. Ещё здесь есть пострипев, который разбавляет повторы текста неожиданными синкопами. Ну, а вокализный бридж этой песни из нулевых отдаёт "Битлами" - так и хочется влепить туда "Hey Jude". Интересно, что меланхоличное настроение в Time won't let me go задаётся (помимо текста) нудным вокалом и тихим звуком: ако��панимент-то довольно живенький, мажорный, разнообразный. Квазиностальгический текст пестрит отсылками к популярной культуре, а моё любимое - оксюморон "I am so homesick for // Some place I will never be".

Немалая часть очарования этой песни приходится на фортепианный аккомпанимент, а также мощный припев - музыканты просто-напросто не стесняются поддать ударных и динамики (громкости). Песня больше эмоциональная, чем рациональная - хотя здесь чётко простроенная композиция по всем законам жанра, с предприпевом, вокпльным, а затем инструментальным бриджем, и логичными соединениями частей. Но всё же именно динамика, смена набора инструментов и эмоции вывозят то, что иначе оказалось бы бесконечными повторами и вариациями. В тексте я больше всего люблю момент "Falling in and out of love // ashamed and proud of".

Если вы уже забыли, как звучит первая песня, можно просто послушать эту - сегодня у нас подборка с кольцевой композицией. Tonight, пожалуй, ближе всех по настроению к To Find You. Формально они, конечно, разные - хотя бы потому, что здесь есть полноценный припев. Tonight более целостная, причем по сравнению и с многими другими песнями, это такая композиция-перевёртыш, потому что припев полностью остаётся в ритме куплета, просто движение меняется с восходящего на нисходящее. Зато там есть классное украшение - повторение последней строки, которое немного поддаёт эмоций и разрешается в финал припева, вот эти предельно романтичные строки: "And every night I miss you, I can just look up // And know the stars are holding you, holding you, // Holding you tonight". Вообще здесь накал тихой страсти достигается за счёт слитного исполнения без значимых пауз. Тем ценнее бридж, где инструменты не бравурно выходят на первый план в свой звёздный час, а наоборот - затихают по сравнению с остальной песней, где выполняют функцию аккомпанимента.

SPD OT5 playlist!

This one's a little different: because there's not just one one-shot for them and instead a sort of miniseries within the big series, I decided to just put together all the songs for their fics in one place. It ended up being not that much longer than the other playlists because I can't find my notes for the original SPD fic, so I just have the songs I literally indicated in the fics themselves, plus one or two additions that fit the VibesTM.

Anyway, say hi to the SPD OT5, who just like Jayden/Antonio, you cannot convince me wasn't canon in the original story. Like, have you SEEN the SWAT arc? The sleepovers? The fact that the entire series' backbone is their growing relationship with each other? S.P.D. more than any other series feels like a story about the relationship of the team, the underdogs against the world, and clearly that bled into my inspiration at the time as S.P.D. got like eleven fics and 42k+ words total? INCLUDING a couple of spin-offs involving their daughter and Dani Rocca (Chip/Xander/Vida's daughter) joining the team?

Anyway, I'm going to link the miniseries here instead of the one-shot fic for those exact reasons.
