That last reblog reminded me of a quite old drawing of mine I did a long time ago, and I thought, why not share them on here too!

happy father's day i'm thinking about this outis line again
Tumblr media
I always thought it was a bit out of pocket considering this isn't too long after the events of Canto III, even with how Outis was being harsher this Canto.
But I then I remembered that Outis' son is the same age as Sinclair.
Her son, who thinks that she died in the Smoke War (the in universe equivalent to the Trojan War as depicted in the Iliad and the Odyssey) because she hasn't been home in years. Her son who cannot cry out to her. And her son, who is currently in much the same position as Sinclair regarding his self-perception and ability to fight, as Telemachus refers to himself as "a weakling knowing nothing of valor" (Book 2 of the Odyssey, line number and exact wording depend on translation).
I think this line reflects more on Outis and her anxieties about her family thinking that she's dead, as well as a reference to Telemachus experiencing his own journey to manhood, much like Sinclair.
I think there's also things to be said for the parallels between Sinclair and Telemachus, even just the ones imagined by Outis. Hell's Chicken had her showing a very paternal worry over his diet (raise your hand if your dad has ever said you'll be short forever if you don't eat right). Overall, even though Sinclair and Telemachus only share the bones of a coming of age narrative, Outis is seeing connections there because she misses her family.
Tumblr media
As with this one. Again, she's showing her hand more than she means to. Though she's talking to Dongrang, I think she's also talking to herself. Trying to reassure herself that home will always be waiting. Dongrang, however, decides not to return, but to pursue glory no matter who he hurts in the process. The Odyssey also contrasts the pursuit of glory with the desire to return home. Odysseus has to choose humility in order to return.
Outis has been keeping up a careful persona around us, but it's slipping. Her desire to return home is seeping through even as she tries to assert herself by clinging to the glory from a war that's long since ended.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of giving Battinson a Robin in the sequel… but I have another idea.
Give Battinson a Batgirl. Because think of the options!
Cassandra Cain, literal feral child with a heart of gold, decides Battinson is friend-shaped and maybe even dad-shaped.
Barbara Gordon, preteen daughter of Batman’s designated police ally, decides she’s his apprentice now, overhauls his entire operation, and mocks him for not showering.
Stephanie Brown, hits him with a brick and gives him premature gray hair within days.

No fear, I have done the math for all of you Fanfic authors so we can stop with the confusion.
Eddie’s Third Try at Senior Year is ‘86
Second try was ‘85, originally supposed to graduate in ‘84
Steve Graduated on time in ‘85
Therefore Eddie is one school year above Steve.
Additionally- as far as I am aware, Middle School is 3 years maximum. So, because of context/middle school talent show:
When Chrissy was in 6th grade, Steve was in 7th, and Eddie was in 8th grade- carrying on until Senior Year kept him back.
So Eddie is two school years above Chrissy.
Ages get a little weirder because I don’t know the Hawkins enrolment cut off/school year start. Some places start in August, others September. Some use age at enrollment, others use birth years etc. but, you can use a general 17-18 for Chrissy/the other ‘86 seniors, 18-19 for Steve/‘85 seniors, and place Eddie 19-20. 21 is kind of pushing it unless you go with a mid-year Appalachian transfer fanon- but again it depends on the enrolment of Hawkins.
I know folks who started kindergarten at 3 because they were big & potty trained, but others were delayed until 5. But 4 is average, ergo, let’s go with averages.
Edit: kindergarten apparently isn’t relevant anyways so let’s be glad it was crossed out anyways.

i always hc'd ted as slightly older than trent--maybe a year or so--but looking up the ages of their actors actually it's way funnier if trent is like a week younger. and believe me there are jokes for that whole week

The hyper-veneration and almost fetishization of the USA's troops have honestly given rise for some of the worst types of people who want power without effort, I think.
It's why you see some entitled asshole troop who think they can do whatever to civilians because we "owe" them for them "putting their lives on the line" or the type of person who thinks they personally will stick it to a random Afghan civilian for what "their people" did on 9/11 (a racist institution fostering racism? Colour me shocked (sarcasm)).
As a US citizen, I'm personally really concerned with this attitude we have toward troops. As somebody who hates the institution of the military, I also hate that it fosters a genuinely toxic mindset - it's much like the mindset that is instilled in cops; however, when you are overseas, the people you harm are not typically US civilians, so people can sweep under the rug the injustice of terrorizing civilians who aren't "like us."

Cherry valance you will always be famous to me. They hated her because she was based. I literally get soooo heated about her, especially in the movie. People treat her like she's not a person (they do that with most socs) but especially because she's a girl.
Leave her ALONE!!! She is literallyyyy a teenage girl, and I've seen people treat her like she's vindictive and evil and it's like...for what. Sure, I guess it kind of sucks she's also so trapped in that social ladder class bullshit but the point is that she's still a person.....and she's not even a bad one 😭
