Amazon has a listing for what appears to be a reprint of the Complete Series box set of the original Powerpuff Girls. The sideart of the image indicates this is a Warner Archive release that will be pressed on DVD-Rs, which would be an improvement over the disc rot-prone double-sided DVDs of the original 10th anniversary set, though I cannot confirm this as of yet.
I would not trust a lot of the listed info as of this writing, as the actresses listed are for PPG 2016, and the description is from the movie. If we can trust the publication date, this rerelease will come out on May 21st, 2024. It can be found here.

--PRIVATE TRANSMISSION--
[Jaunty Fluttering of Two Sparks, Nine Materials, a Million Bells, Flightless Parallels of Balance, Accented Looking of One Imprisonment, Everything Alight in an Ideal World, Saccharine Sunset]
NMMB: Guysssss
NMMB: ALOOM isn't waking up
EAIW: As in actually not waking up? Not at all??
FPB: Oh dear.
EAIW: are you sure?
NMMB: Everytime I zap her she doesn't respond. Some of her systems are still on, so she isn't like, dead or anything. Plus I feel like the gods would have let me known if she died.
FPB: Oh dear.
EAIW: That is. Not very good! Don't think they were acting all that odd last time I talked to them...
FPB: Have you sent an overseer to check on her?
NMMB: Yes that's what I'm using to zap her.
NMMB: Her neurons are still alive too, and some of her area's anti gravity is on.
EAIW: This is not good.
SS: oh no
SS: have you.. looked for an issue of some sort??
NMMB: Uhmmm no not really. I can check though.
NMMB: Do you uh, think she hurt herself, again?
FPB: ...I would assume so, but I do not talk with them that often.
SS: the only way to knows to see if somethings wrong
NMMB: Fun.
NMMB: Well give me one moment!! I'll check around.
EAIW: Good luck.
NMMB: Oh it looks like her like,,, rarefaction cell wasn't on. Looks like the water turned it off. But! It's back on now, I'm gonna go check her puppet.
NMMB: Also, I think her can fell a bit lower too.
EAIW: not good.
SS: glad shes alright!!
EAIW: Couldn't they have made the island just a bit more stable...
FPB: Alight, they had limited resources. They did what they could.
EAIW: I know! It's just that... The edges of the island aren't really structurally sound, and I know how to fix them, but I can't and... It just bothers me okay?
FPB: Yes, of course. That is... I get that. I really do.
NMMB: Yeah, I don't understand why they didn't. They should have, even with limited resources. Even more so since they even built her.
FPB: I do hope that ALOOM is alright though!
NMMB: Oh, oh yeah she did hurt herself.
SS: oh...
SS: are they okay?
NMMB: I think so, just, kind of pulled, a lot of wires out.
NMMB: Hold on I'll get them on comms.
[ALOOM has connected]
ALOOM: Sorry for My disappearance, I think due to the Heavy Rain, it Flooded Me more.
NMMB: There we go!
FPB: ALOOM! There you are. Hello!
EIAW: hello! the rain flooded you more?? how is your can doing?
SS: Accented Looking of One Imprisonment!! good to see you! glad youre okay...ish
ALOOM: It is okay, just, Need to Drain It.
NMMB: Yeah I can go open that hatch with the Overseer, give me one moment.
ALOOM: Thank You.
ALOOM: How are You All doing?
EIAW: it really is not good that the rain even floods you...
ALOOM: It can not Be Helped. You know there are Lots and Lots of Holes in my can.
EIAW: I know, I know...
EIAW: But I am alright. Nothing interesting's happened lately for me
FPB: I am alright as well. Working on the latest installment of one of my writing projects!
SS: im good!!
ALOOM: What Writing Project is this?
ALOOM: It is Good that the Rest Of You are Good though.
FPB: Ah, my writing project! Tis the tale of a slugcat and a lizard, victims of a potentially-cruel experiment that switched the places of their minds! So now, is the slugcat the lizard and vice-versa, or.. Are they the same as always, just in a new way?
SS: a truly fascinating and captivating tale!!
ALOOM: Oh Interesting! You'll have to Let Me Read it once it Is Done!
FPB: I shall make sure to send you a copy of the pearl!
ALOOM: Do, you Guys Know how long I Was Asleep?
NMMB: There we go! Most of the water should be drained. I am, so glad you have those outlet things.
ALOOM: They Were Made From Me Collapsing.
NMMB: Right, well, they are still useful!!
SS: dunno how long you were asleep... maybe check your logs?
ALOOM: Thank You.
ALOOM: That is a Good Point. Looks like, from My Logs, Three Cycles? Apologies for Being Out So Long.
SS: nahh dont worry about it! just... stay safe
NMMB: It's all good! As I like to say, the gods willed that you woke up today. Which probably means something good is gonna happen.
NMMB: Ooo I should get my offerings around!
EAIW: Agreed, do stay safe please.
FPB: I fourth that! As long as you are alive
ALOOM: ...
ALOOM: Trying.
ALOOM: I Should most Likely leave so I can do Some Repairs.
ALOOM: It Was Nice talking to you All.
EAIW: luck! Message me if you ever need help with that, of course
SS: bye!!

The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter, Tuesday, July 18
CASSIE: Look, I don't mean to be a pain. You seem really nice, and I know you're just trying to help. But I'm wasting your time. BUFFY: No you're not. This is why I'm here. Cassie, please tell me, why do you think you're gonna die? CASSIE: I don't think it, I know it. I just know. BUFFY: What do you mean, you know? A-are you saying that someone's going to hurt you? Has someone threatened you? CASSIE: No. (beat) No, I just know that next Friday I'm gonna die. Some things I just know. I don't know how, I just do. (beat) Like I know there will be coins- BUFFY: Coins? CASSIE: Mm-hmm. Lots of coins. Weird ones. And I know that you'll go someplace dark underground. I-I don't know.

The last of the One Shots - For now~
Dustfire Media has released another episode for us all to enjoy, Fire and Brimstone. Just from the name alone it sounds fiery and evil and I am excited! Please feel free to leave reviews on the podcasts even if you don't want to become a Patreon just yet, all the love and comments are appreciated just as much ♡
The summary of the episode also states that it's the first time the Relics of the New Republic crew came together for a game, with Nick as GM not Steve!

Star, January 25
You can now buy a copy of this issue for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Meghan Markle’s life is a lie
Tumblr media
Page 1: Emma Stone’s baby joy -- after months of speculation thrilled mom-to-be Emma debuts her baby bump during a hike with a pal
Tumblr media
Page 2: Contents, Sutton Foster and Nico Tortorella and Debi Mazar filmed a scene for Younger’s final season
Tumblr media
Page 4: Candace Cameron Bure came out swinging again against commenters on a holiday pic she posted on Instagram of her and her husband Valeri Bure and kids Natasha and Lev and Maksim and she got a load of snark for the heavily retouched pic
Page 5: Karlie Kloss usually steers clear of dishing on her sister- and brother-in-law Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner but on January 6 Karlie broke her silence after Ivanka tweeted and quickly deleted a post calling a pro-Trump mob storming the U.S. Capitol building American patriots and Karlie begged to differ tweeting that accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic and when one Twitter user urged her to tell her brother-in-law and sister-in-law she lamented I’ve tried
* Olivia Jade Giannulli posted a clip of herself dancing maskless at a beach-house party and the New Year’s Day Insta came days after her mom Lori Loughlin was sprung from prison and the clip which featured her toasting with a glass of vino came less than a month after she aired her regrets in an interview -- the party girl feels she’s suffered too from the scandal and she was just letting off steam
* Rege-Jean Page has sent pulses racing with his groundbreaking role as the rakish Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton but it was his reference to James Bond’s legendary martini preference in a tweet that had fans speculating he’s in line to take over from Daniel Craig as the next 007 -- the biracial actor has been vocal about the importance of inclusive casting
Page 6: Jessica Simpson whose own father once bragged about her double Ds is enjoying a very particular benefit of her recent 100-lb slimdown which is she’s gone down two cup sizes and she says she feels more athletic and her body is more in proportion -- in addition to easing back pain she feels a different sort of weight has lifted because all that talk about her breasts made her feel they overshadowed her as a person
* Drew Barrymore is nursing a private pain as her ex-husband Will Kopelman went public with his new love Vogue staffer Alexandra Michler and the two are serious while Drew is still single and she is alone and feeling like the odd man out -- there are times when Drew absolutely regrets divorcing Will especially now that he’s dating again and Drew was holding out hope for a reunion but when she discovered Will was seeing someone new she knew there was a good chance it may not happen and even worse her own attempts at finding romance have fallen flat as she’s tried online dating a few times but had no luck
* Star Spots the Stars -- Jimmy Fallon and wife Nancy Juvonen, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Ryan Seacrest, Jenna Dewan, Aubrey Plaza, JD Martinez
Page 8: Star Shots -- John Legend gave his son Miles a zip around the water on a jet ski during a vacation in St. Barths, Ellen DeGeneres on a bike after lunch with friends in Santa Barbara, Brooke Burke dressed in wintry workout gear sipped a hot drink
Page 10: Leslie Jones on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Christina Aguilera playing video games with her son Max
Page 12: Kit Harington takes his dog for a walk in London, Sean “Diddy” Combs passed out gift cards and gift bags to those in need in Miami, Mindy Kaling online shopping
Page 13: Gabrielle Union and her husband Dwyane Wade on a hike, Jenny McCarthy maneuvered her trash bins to the curb in Chicago
Page 14: Coach Tom Jones on The Voice UK, EJ Johnson at the beach in Miami, Margaret Qualley and boyfriend Shia LaBeouf on a hike in L.A., Dua Lipa eating during a getaway in Tulum, Mexico
Page 16: Normal or Not? Tori Spelling out in Los Angeles with her dogs and husband Dean McDermott -- normal, Nicole Kidman and an alpaca -- not normal
Page 17: Jennifer Garner playing the drinking game from The Crown in which participants who can’t repeat a phrase correctly must smudge their faces -- not normal, Kate Bosworth celebrated her birthday with husband Michael Polish and some bubbly in Beverly Hills -- normal
Page 18: Fashion -- stars stun in Pantone colors of the year Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray -- Mindy Kaling, Thandie Newton, Jorja Smith
Page 19: Ariana Grande, Zoey Deutch
Page 24: Olivia Wilde made news stepping out as Harry Styles’ plus-one to his agent’s wedding in Montecito and he introduced her as his girlfriend as the two mingled and held hands -- the next day Harry and Olivia who hit it off on the set of her upcoming psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling in which he stars were spotted heading into his L.A. home -- wedding guests weren’t the only ones surprised by the new couple as Olivia’s ex Jason Sudeikis dad to her kids Otis and Daisy has been nurturing hope of a reunion since their split in late 2020 and he was surprised she’d go for one of the actors in her movie -- now Olivia is conflicted because she’s having fun with Harry but there’s no denying her feelings for Jason continue to linger and some are betting her romance with Harry will flame out in no time and no one would be surprised if Olivia and Jason ended up getting back together
Page 25: Florence Pugh and Zach Braff had Hollywood abuzz after a pal wished her a happy birthday on social media and cryptically referred to her as FPB -- that extra B caused many to surmise that Florence has quietly exchanged vows with Zach and taken his last name and Florence hasn’t done much to shut down speculation by strategically hiding her ring finger in photos shared on Instagram
* Zoe Kravitz filed for divorce from Karl Glusman after 18 months of marriage because she was fed up with having an MIA husband -- things between the two hit a breaking point after Karl failed to check in with his wife while filming Please Baby Please in Butte, Montana -- Zoe couldn’t take being ignored and when she and Karl finally spoke they had a big fight and she pulled the plug shortly afterwards
* They called it quits in October after two years together but Bethenny Frankel and Paul Bernon are now giving their relationship another shot -- they split up because their long-distance romance proved too difficult but Bethenny really missed him and it turns out Paul missed her too and it seems second time’s a charm because a loved-up Bethenny and Paul indulged in PDA at a Miami studio as they watched her daughter paint with the artist
Page 26: Cover Story -- Meghan Markle exposed -- Meghan’s older half-sister is dishing some major dirt about the former actress’ rise to royalty in her new bombshell book
Page 30: Inside Kim Kardashian’s escape -- Kim reached her breaking point with Kanye West months ago but took many steps before she finally left him
Page 32: It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over -- these celebs more than made up after breaking up and they made it all the way down the aisle -- Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo
Page 33: Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Prince William and Kate Middleton
Page 36: Beauty -- sweet dreams -- get better ZZZs and wake up looking gorgeous with products that nourish
Page 38: Entertainment
Page 48: Parting Shot -- Splashing out on a romantic getaway in Tulum, Mexico Bella Thorne and boyfriend Benjamin Mascolo made time to keep it tight on the sand

Phoenix to Magnum: My Journey
Here are a few tips and tricks I picked up while retooling my writing style with Magnum Steno. The first is to look at it through that framework; it's a power-up, not a wholesale "change." I'd note that quick changes are not deep changes.
Much of what I'll share here had to be drilled relentlessly before it became my new instinct and caused hesitation until it was drilled out. Additionally, I'd point out most of my multi-stroke game is still Phoenix-based, though I have found areas where four and five strokes can be whittled down to two, and the version of Phoenix you learned may have introduced some of these concepts as it underwent some retooling of its own since I learned it in 2010.
One piece of advice Mark gave me early on was not to try and change my "and" (SKW-) to his "and" (SKP-), this would be a slight change with only mild impact in the overall retool. Far better to filter Mark's briefs dictionary for phrases that start with the word "and" and modify the entries to utilize SKW-. As you go through this process you'll be able to spot areas like this where change is an option but won't yield much efficiency versus the time it'll take to reinforce the new instinct.
That caveat aside, there are a few routes you can take in your shortening journey. One place to start is to follow the instructions in the Magnum Steno Club Instructional Videos folder entitled "Really Great Way to Shorten Writing." Mark explains the process of mining your personal dictionary for your most common multi-strokers by ordering the dictionary in descending order of most translated words and picking out the first several high frequency two-stroke words from the list to convert to one stroke. This yields a personalized list of areas to attack that will have high impact immediately.
For a deeper makeover related to Phoenix specifically, there are some theory principle changes to consider. These are very worth working out because they allow for inflections across a wide swath of the English language, opening up a realm of accuracy and precision that accords with principles and thus aren't "briefs." If you still have your Fast Track Drills book, you'll want to work on these drills:
4 (-V sound changes from -FB to *F)
16 (use -S for "-SS" words, so you can pluralize with -SZ)
17 (-SH changes from -GS to -RB, opening up easy inflections)
19 (-TH changes from -GT to *T, also opening up inflections)
57 (-TH reinforcement)67 (-SH reinforcement)
70 (-MP changes from -FPL to -FRP)^
71 (-SK, on stroke Magnum principle -FBG)
79 (-RTH endings different with *T for -TH)
80 (-RCH ending changes to -FRPB from -FRP)^
81 (-NCH ending changes to -FRPBLG from -FRPB)^
82 (-PTH, -LTH, -NTH, -NGTH endings all different with *T)
84 (-SHUN changes from -GZ to -GS, -KSHUN stays -BGZ)^
85 (-SHAL changes from -LGS to -RBL, -SHUS from -GS/-S to -RBS)
86 (-VER stroking option becomes *FR)
87 (-VEN stroking option becomes *FPB)
88 (-FL/-VL reinforcement of *F for -V sound & expansion)
90 (-BL words with -BL)
91 (ex- changes from EBGS to KP-)
103 (-SH reinforcement)
105 (-SHUN reinforcement)
^ Denotes principles where I've retained the original Phoenix concepts in my dictionary where possible, allowing myself some leeway if I hear something and write it the way I used to.
Following those reforms to our basic theory principles, we're ready to build in further Magnum Steno principles. Feel free to utilize the drills I've shared online for theory concepts that were new to me in Magnum Steno at https://soundcloud.com/mattheweloss-10/sets/ms-theory-concepts
At this point (or any point prior) it'll probably be helpful to start going chapter by chapter in the book and picking up briefs and word pairs. Don't fret if these conflict with Phoenix word parts as you can make a change in the standalone stroke oftentimes while retaining the Phoenix principle in its multi-stroke function. The Magnum brief concepts tend to stack up on one another later on with further efficiency gains, so they're pretty beneficial changes. And be mindful of Mark's Write-It-Out words, as you might be able to locate spots where you can turn four strokes into two, which can be as helpful as whittling these higher frequency words down to one stroke with the aforementioned principles.
Then there's the joy of conquering the Right Hand Phrase Enders. This actually may be a preferable starting point for the working reporter as these concepts open up worlds of efficiency and have few or no counterparts in Phoenix. Your familiarity with these ideas will depend on how heavily phrasing was emphasized in your original theory courses. Some will look similar (-FPL for ~them, *PBG for ~think, etc.) Here you may have to slay an old idea some of us were convinced of, and that is the notion that every phrase must have an asterisk in its outline. On the other side of conquering this beast lies even further versatility and short writing power.
Again, I'll refer you to the drills I used to incorporate these ideas into my writing. Notice they're succinct, moderately paced ("gettable") alternations between disparate concepts: https://soundcloud.com/matthew-moss-10/sets/rhpes  You might consider becoming your own drill master. A large part of what helped me succeed in this endeavor was the process of uncovering areas that felt unnatural or challenging, creating a drill for them, and then writing that drill until I couldn't make a mistake. I usually had to get to that point before I'd really hear the concepts and deploy the new strokes at high speed. Dictate drills for your problem spots into your phone.
Another point of entry, or further mastery, would be to spend a large chunk of time with the "families" later on in the book. Studying a group of briefs and phrases organized around the domains of Jury Charge, Political, Auto Accident, Law Enforcement, Medical, and Science Terminology provide concrete anchors for us to associate clusters of new neuronal pathways around with our arsenal of short writing techniques.
And, of course, there's a multitude of further information in the Magnum Steno Club, the Olympic weight-lifting room of stenography. Our CAT software is an essential ally in this odyssey. For my conversion at Mark's online program and through most of my reporting career I've used at least two dictionaries. Mark helped me understand that if I rename my Phoenix dictionary something other than Personal Dictionary, and renamed his briefs dictionary “Personal Dictionary,” I could load them both in my translation settings, with the Phoenix dictionary prioritized above the Magnum briefs (Personal Dictionary).
This is a little in the weeds, but it's an option that's available for the extreme makeover. This allowed me to open up entire concepts simply by learning them and rooting out and resolving conflicts as I went along. It also allowed me to always be able to examine the way Mark might handle a word or phrase. Early on I kept a "changes" diary in case I decided this path was a mistake and wanted to go back, and of course, I backed up all of my system files and my personal dictionary in several places before even attempting this. If this approach is too radical or extreme, just filter and copy new concepts from the Magnum briefs dictionary into your dictionary as you incorporate them.
Recently I merged the dictionaries. It's not all Mark and Phoenix either. I've developed a distinctly Matt Moss style as I've picked up concepts I like from Facebook groups and seminars (shoutout to Ed’s Steno Pro) and my colleagues in the courthouse where I currently work. This dictionary contains 270,000+ entries, and it's growing every day. Part of what I came to understand through this process is that I am the author of my writing style, and that style will continue to grow and evolve as long as I do. Mark and many others have pointed me in amazing directions and shown me things that have made me a much stronger writer than I ever imagined I would be.
Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help you resolve any conflicts or pitfalls you encounter along the way.

Right after tweeting about how they’re not dead and that there’s more news to come while everyone was tweeting about their supposed death, Cartoon Network is now un-privating videos that were privated during the HBO Max purge. This includes clips from Infinity Train, OK K.O., Summer Camp Island, Mighty Magiswords, and Mao Mao Heroes of Pure Heart. They are also reuploading some videos as well. These shows were supposedly going to be written off for taxes, but this seems to be a hint that did not actually happen.

I’ve long thought that Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” originally included on his first record, the 1957 album Johnny Cash with His Hot and Blue Guitar!, is one of the very best country/pop songs America’s ever produced, if not the best country/pop song America’s ever produced. But it’s a complicated song, to say the least.
Before I go any further, here’s Cash performing the song at Folsom Prison.
youtube
I’d hardly call myself a country fan—my country tastes, such as they are, are restricted to artists working through mid-60s or so, like Cash and Patsy Cline—but Cash’s music, “Folsom Prison Blues” in particular, is a big reason why I became interested in country in my 20s.
Curiously, both the melody and lyrics of “Folsom Prison Blues” (FPB) were, uh, heavily borrowed, shall we say, from the 1953 song “Crescent City Blues,” written by Gordon Jenkins and sung by Beverly Mahr. But where “Crescent City Blues” (CCB) is a bittersweet, longing song about the singer wanting to get out of her dead-end town because “the boys in Crescent City don’t seem to know I’m here,” FPB is decidedly darker. Its speaker is a murderer who “shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.”
youtube
Even more curiously, and unsurprisingly given America’s history, the Jenkins/Mahr version of CCB borrowed from a song of the same name by the black jazz/blues pianist Little Brother Montgomery.
Though Montgomery’s song, which was recorded in the 1930s, doesn’t have any lyrics and is much jauntier than the Jenkins/Mahr version or Cash’s, the melody of both later songs is certainly there.
youtube
The politics of the three songs cannot be avoided, of course. That white artists have liberally appropriated-to-outright-stolen traditions established by black musicians is hardly news. And the increasing darkness of the three songs—from the light piano piece by the black musician, to a woman singing about longing, to a white man confessing murder—also suggests things about the kinds of truths America will allow certain types of people to utter.
With this kind of academic navel-gazing aside (I don’t believe for a minute that Cash, who grew up dirt poor in Arkansas and carried his upbringing with him forever, wanted for a minute to steal from Montgomery), it nonetheless stands that “Folsom Prison Blues” is the best of the bunch.
Just look at the second verse of CCB:
When I was just a baby my mama told me, Sue When you're grown up I want that you should go and see and do But I'm stuck in Crescent City just watching life mosey by When I hear that whistle blowin', I hang my head and cry
versus that of FPB:
When I was just a baby my mama told me Son, always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die When I hear that whistle blowing, I hang my head and cry
The first and last lines of each verse are nearly similar; the middle lines are where the telling differences lie. First, there’s the difference between a mother telling her daughter that “I want that you should go and see and do” versus a mother telling her son to “always be a good boy, don’t ever play with guns.”
In addition to evoking in more immediate way maternal advice (”always be a good boy”), the “don’t ever play with guns” makes FPB’s speaker seem almost childlike. And because he seems childlike (be a good boy!), the turn to “I shot a man Reno just to watch him die” is that much more dramatic. It’s quite a moment, and is probably the main reason the song’s so powerful. The song’s speaker shouldn’t be sympathetic—he’s a cold-blooded murderer!—but he is. He sounds like a kid, doesn’t he?**
The third line of CCB’s verse, however, contains much less dramatic tension. Sure, who wants to be stuck in a town watching life mosey by? But that can hardly compare to an innocent-seeming “boy” killing someone “just to watch him die.” The CCB verse reminds me of a challenge I used to put before creative writing students: can you imagine a story without a conflict? Why would you read one?
The next verse underscores this. Both speakers imagine what the people on the train “rolling round the bend” (per FPB) are doing, and the speakers are filled with jealously. But where in CCB the people are eating “pheasant breast and eastern caviar,” in FPB they’re “drinkin’ coffee and smoking big cigars.” FPB’s speaker doesn’t even want to eat. He just wants to indulge.
Finally, of course, there’s Cash’s famous voice. Without his arresting baritone, the song would be good but not great. Cash’s voice has a way of digging into one’s head. Listening to Cash is like being shouted at and scolded gently and prayed alongside with all at the same time. His voice is both soothing and disturbing. Much like “Folsom Prison Blues” is, especially at time when our homemade face masks are fogging up our glasses every time we venture outside.
...
*Except insofar as one can’t write about prisons or prison songs without at least indirectly bringing up government-mandated social distancing.
**A similar song, dark-lyrics-wise, is the Red House Painters’s “Glenn Tipton,” the first track from their 2003 record Ghosts of the Great Highway. In the song, its speaker goes through five verses of sweet nostalgia—lamenting the loss of an old woman who served coffee to cops before her heart stopped—and then the song’s tone switches abruptly. After the song’s otherwise sweet bridge, Mark Kozelek sings “I buried my first victim / when I was nineteen / went through her bedroom / and the pockets of her jeans / and found her letters / that said so many things / that really hurt me bad.” It’s an incredible moment. Whatever Kozelek may have done and produced since, he wrote “Glenn Tipton.”

Shitty Canadian Hangman
Also known as: Arguing With Canada, my new job title.
I could put it on my resume. Role: Front Desk/ Office Administrator. Experience: orders shit for kitchen, argues with Canada.
Realistically, we have issues with exporting things with many different countries, especially Vietnam. But those issues are generally handled by our international office, while Canadian issues tend to fall right on my (completely unqualified) shoulders.
Background: we were trying to send a laptop to our Vancouver office. A thing we have done before. A thing we have had issues doing before, and those issues were long and arduous and should have been solved already. Because I solved them (mostly).
See link for details: https://pieandmurderwednesday.tumblr.com/post/185484398919/the-continuing-struggles-fedex
So there’s this paperwork you fill out, right, for Power of Attorney for FedEx. Supposedly, this means that they will take your account and deal with all customs issues with a certain region and never bother you with it again. Supposedly.
Here’s the thing, though. I filled that paperwork out when I was young and fresh-faced and innocent, a mere babe in the woods (about three months ago), and also it had already been passed around to Canada, Texas, back to me, to the office next to mine, to the Chief Financial officer, back to the neighboring office, back to me, then to Texas and Canada again, and then to FedEx. Twice.
That paperwork got around, is all I’m saying.
And it asked for a “Business Number,” which no one at the time knew, so I left it blank and it got sent to Customs and they accepted it and everything was fine.
For like two months.
Then we try to send another laptop, secure in the knowledge that we have Filled Out All The Things, and it got stuck at the border. Because they wanted a Business Number.
A Business Number, for all you lucky bastards who have never needed to know, is a tax thing in Canada that you apparently apply for when you set up a business there. We didn’t have one (I think?) until March of this year, because back then our Canada office was under a different name and only used by remote contractors, so our shipments were casual instead of commercial and basically no one in Canada gave a single solitary fuck.
Then our parent company acquired us and our Canada branch and set up a business there Officially and didn’t bother to get an import-export account (which does fuck-all except add some extra digits after your Business Number and pacify Customs when you try to send shit to yourself, so I can understand why they never bothered).
So we had the paperwork but didn’t put the number, FedEx and Canada both thought this was a terrible heinous crime, and they contacted us to get The Number to resolve the issue.
I was on break and totally unaware of the Canadian Shit Storm I was about to walk into when I returned. The laptop had been sent, all bells and whistles attached, I returned to the office to start my day, and then the issue was dumped in my lap.
So I sent our FedEx representative the copies of the paperwork we had already filled out, including the paper that explicitly stated that from this moment forward, they would deal with this shit so we didn’t have to, and they said “this looks fine except you need a Business Number or all of your hard work means nothing.”
(Why is it that you need a Canadian Business number for a Non-Resident power of attorney form anyway??? Doesn’t the very fact that you are Not A Resident of Canada imply that you don’t have a Canadian Business Number??????)
Anyway, I emailed the Canadian IT guy back asking for the Number, he sent me a number that identified their business but had the wrong suffix-- intended only for tax purposes, and not import-export. He suggested I ask payroll about it because accounting people apparently know these things.
I sent the number to FedEx, saying “This is what we have, the suffix is different apparently but can we at least use this for now?” And what I got back was, “We’ll check with Canada if this is correct but without the all-important suffix, this number is just farts in the wind.”
So they called Canada, and then they emailed me in a tither because “OH HEAVENS, CANADA SAYS THIS NUMBER IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR COMPANY.”
To which my response was “Shit.” And a moment later, “What the fuck? That can’t be right, this is the number we use to pay our people, OBVIOUSLY IT IS OURS.”
But then I remembered my company exists under an umbrella company (parent company? I forget the term. Our tiny IT ex-startup has a helicopter parent, is what I’m saying) and it might be under that name instead.
Told FedEx, they said, “If it is under that other company, you need to fill out these three forms and then check if the number is correct and then click your heels together three times and pray the Wicked Bitch of the North will accept your humble offering.”
To which I saw turn red, wrote and deleted several very strongly worded emails, finally whittled it down to a polite-sounding “That seems excessive, can we at least check that the number is under our name and see if we have an account without sending the paperwork to get lost in our other office for a week, please oh please? And also, we pay for all this shit and not our parent company, so isn’t it technically ours to deal with anyway?”
Cue Shitty Canadian Hangman, where I hope at least the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) was having fun, because FedEx Poor Bastard (herefore dubbed FPB) and I sure weren’t. Vaguely, it went like this.
Me: *calls FPB* Okay, so this is our company’s name, is it under that name?
FPB : *calls CRA* “Is this the name?”
CRA: “No, you have three more guesses and then I take your first-born child.”
FPB: *calls me* “No.”
Me: “Okay, is it ~slightly more official name of our company~?”
FPB: ...huh.
FPB: *calls CRA* “How about this?”
CRA: “The first word is correct, I cannot tell you more. You have two more guesses, then I take your first-born child.”
FPB: *calls me* “One word was correct, but is there an official suffix or anything?”
Me: “.... Hang on.” *stands up too fast, bruises knee badly against corner of desk, limps to supervisor* “What’s our company’s official name?”
Supervisor: “~Name Canada has already rejected once~”
Me: “...oh.” *limps back to desk* “This is it, bub.”
FPB: “Can you please call Canada this time, they scare me.”
Me: “Fine.”
Me: *calls CRA*
Me: *on hold*
Me: *on hold some more*
Me: *on hold for an hour*
Me: *opens email, sees Accounting has sent Official Canada Name of Business, which is... just great.*
CRA: “Hi, how can I help you?”
Me: “Can you tell me if this number is associated with ~Actual Official Business Name, for real this time~?”
CRA: “Yes.”
Me: “Okay, phew! So, do we have an import-export account?”
CRA: “I cannot release that information without authorization.”
Me: “... But I work here. Well, not in Canada, but this is our company. That we want to send a thing to. I just want to send a thing and I need to know if you will let me do that.”
CRA: “You need to fill out form IDK and IDC, and also form GO FUCK YOURSELF before I release that information.”
Me: *dying inside* “Okay fine, you’ve been very helpful. Have a... nice day.”
CRA: “Va te faire foutre.”
Me: “To you as well.”
Back to FedEx, they said they couldn’t do shit either, dumped the whole mess into Accounting’s hands, because they originally didn’t set up whatever account it was and I, a lowly front desk worker, don’t have the authorization.
Shirley Bassey: “I love her to bits, but she doesn’t have the authorization.”
This is the culmination of four days of work.
I have talked with FedEx, with Canada Revenue Agency, with our Vancouver office IT person and hiring manager, with Accounting and with my supervisor, and the result of this effort and time is: I confirmed that the number that we use is, in fact ours. And that I cannot use it until Accounting consults with Legal and sets up the fucking account we seem to have been using already (because how else did we manage to send anything before????). And I googled how to curse people in French while I was on hold.
So all in all I was very polite on the phone, while my subtitles were more like,
*raises middle finger*
“Thank you for your help”
*raises other middle finger*
“throughout this process”
*raises third middle finger*
“and I hope you have a great day.”
*finger-spelling F-U-C-K- O-F-F*
“I appreciate your time”
*scribbling on paper “You Useless Bastards”*
“and I hope you have a great weekend”
*continues writing “along with the last of my fucks, which has died of fuck deprivation”*
“Goodbye!”
*finishes writing “I hope you step on a Lego every night before bed and that the toilet paper always runs out when you go to a public bathroom”*

Choosing My Current EDC
Updated: 12/2/2018
I have owned just about every striker-fired compact, sub-compact and micro pistol available but after my recent split with the Sig Sauer P365, I was on the hunt for the perfect EDC.
In retrospect, I should've just purchased another Glock 43 and called it a day, but I am (admittedly) foolish at times & curious by nature, so I decided to see what other offerings were on the Market.
My search brought me to hammer-fired pistols, a realm I'd never ventured into before. It started with the Heckler & Koch P30SK with the V1 LEM trigger system, but the grip was too "bulbous" (it’s a word, click the link ;) to me. Also, the grip kind of looked like something Batman had Alfred create for him in the Bat Cave.
One thing I did really like was the added safety of being able to ride the hammer with my thumb when re-holstering.
The V1 light LEM (Law Enforcement Modification) had a longer take-up and reset than I was used to, but overall the trigger was extremely smooth. But, again, while the grip felt good in my hand, it still felt too big and round.
Tumblr media
My next choice was the seemingly twin brother of the P30SK which was the P2000SK also by H&K.
Tumblr media
The dimensions were almost identical in every way except for the grip and trigger variant; the P2000SK came standard with the heavier V2 LEM system.
The grip was more squared and slim on the sides, which I think I like better because of my many years of experience shooting Glock pistols.
While a bit heavier, the trigger pull was not altogether unbearable. It still had the same long up-take and reset, only the overall resistance, or weight, of the pull was a tad heavier. Nevertheless, I decided to “spring” (pun intended) for the parts necessary to convert the P2000SK from the heavier V2 down to a lighter V1 variant. It was actually quite simple, requiring just a couple of parts from HKParts.net (seen below)
The parts needed are:
Light Trigger Return Rebound Spring
New Style Firing Pin Block Compression Spring FPBS - Light
Tumblr media
I also decided to grab the Trigger Return Spring Installation Tool to help with getting the tricky Trigger spring in (turns out it REALLY helped!). Taking it to the range proved that I shoot extremely well with the light V1 and the pistol had ZERO malfunctions through 300 rounds.
youtube
So, now I had a better-feeling grip (to me, anyway), the light trigger of the V1 LEM and confidence in both my ability to shoot it well as well as the pistol’s reliability, so I put it in a SlimFit Holsters “Shell” model holster and wore it around for awhile.
To say that the P2000SK is a Sub-Compact (or Sub Kompact in German, hence the “SK"), is a bit of a stretch... it feels rather heavy, bulky carrying in the Appendix position. I suspected this may be the case, given it’s dimensions are close to the Glock 26, but was hopeful that it wouldn’t be as bad.
But, it was...
I just don’t like wearing the P2000SK around. Some people can comfortably carry larger pistols, like the Glock 19, for example. I would as well (if I felt I could comfortably) as I like the idea of having greater capacity, should the need (God forbid) ever arise. But, at 5′ 11″, 175lbs, I am not a big guy by any means and just am not comfortable wearing pistols of that size daily. I would honestly prefer comfort over capacity (which is a raging debate) and generally carry a spare mag anyway.
Let me make this extremely clear... I really had a difficult time parting with the Sig P365. It seemed to be an extremely well-made pistol overall and I experience ZERO issue, malfunctions or the like through the 300 - 400 rounds I shot through it. The issues I had with it that led me to the decision to sell it were these:
Overall size - it was just TOO small in my hands to where it was uncomfortable and kept rubbing against the inside of my strong-side (right hand) middle finger. This made it unpleasant to practice with, which I desperately needed, as I didn’t shoot it well (which I attribute to it’s size/feel in my hands). This leads me to the second main issue...
Tumblr media
Accuracy - or maybe more aptly lack thereof. I was just not accurate with it on the draw. This is extremely important to me as, most likely, the only time I would brandish my pistol is under a quick-draw from under duress.
youtube
So, after all this, I decided I missed my G43 and that this time, I would do it right.
