in another world: fifth spirit Anna!
“𝙴𝚕𝚜𝚊! 𝙴𝚕𝚜𝚊! 𝚆𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚞𝚙, 𝚠𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚞𝚙!”
“𝙰𝚗𝚗𝚊.. 𝚐𝚘 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚕𝚎𝚎𝚙!”
“𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚜𝚔𝚢’𝚜 𝚊𝚠𝚊𝚔𝚎, 𝚜𝚘 𝙸’𝚖 𝚊𝚠𝚊𝚔𝚎! 𝚂𝚘 𝚠𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚢!!”
“𝙶𝚘 𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚢 𝚋𝚢 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏!”
“𝙱𝚞𝚝, 𝙴𝚕𝚜𝚊! ..𝙳𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚊 𝚋𝚞𝚒𝚕𝚍 𝚊 𝚋𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚒𝚛𝚎?”
~~~~~~~~~~~ In an alternate version of Disney’s Frozen where it’s Anna, the youngest daughter of Arendelle, who is the fifth spirit and who is fiery. Essentially, in the beginning she wakes up Elsa early to get her to come downstairs in the throne room and make a large bonfire for them to tell stories and dance around, and she creates a small burning marshmallow man called Olaf who supposedly loves the winter, which she and Elsa adore. Anna, being the rowdy person she is, decides to make it so when Elsa dances fire explodes from around her and dances with her. Though the reserved and quiet older Elsa is at first worried, she then really has fun with it, but grows reckless and goes too fast, causing Anna to hit her in the head with a flame.
Tumblr media
Rather than burning Elsa like Anna fears it would, it gives her a red streak of hair and causes her to collapse, sweating from the heat. Anna calls for her parents and they take Anna to the trolls, who use their magic to make Elsa forget about Anna’s powers and instruct Anna to hide them as they will only grow bigger. Anna is forced to shut Elsa out, and Elsa attempts to ask Anna to play with her, but Anna’s loud spirit is diminished by her fear of setting things on fire or hitting Elsa again— possibly even burning and killing her this time.
Tumblr media
Naturally it’s Anna who is crowned Queen of Arendelle because her parents’ will specifies that Anna should be the queen despite not being first born (though the will was in actuality referring to Anna being the fifth spirit). It’s Elsa who forms a friendship with Hans once the gates are open. Anna’s glove slips off earlier during the party when she strikes up a conversation with Elsa, so when Elsa unwittingly stresses her out by asking what she’s so afraid of, Anna unleashes a burst of fire and heat. Afraid of being considered a monster, she runs away, unwittingly setting off a heat curse on Arendelle, with fires breaking out in dry spots and the heat unbearable. Elsa leaves Hans in charge; she’s beginning to feel something for him despite her being usually reserved, and wants to help Anna and cool down Arendelle, although she is scared for her.
It’s Elsa who goes on the journey with Kristoff (and Olaf, the ashy marshmallow man who was brought to life by Anna) and finds Anna lettin’ it go in an ashy palace wearing a gown of pure fire, and Elsa who gets struck again, her heart burned this time instead of just her head. As the fire around her heart burns, more red appears in her hair and she goes back under the pretense that an act of true love will put out the fire that will eventually burn her to death. Of course Hans reveals he never really cared for her and refuses to give her true love’s kiss, and Elsa grows unbearably hot. Olaf informs her Kristoff loves her, and Elsa rushes outside to greet him. Meanwhile, Anna has been captured after an earlier kerfuffle, but as she attempts to escape Hans tells her she killed Elsa. Anna, who never trusted Hans, at first reacts in anger but sees his somber face and gasps, slowly vaulting to her knees, halting the fire as she sobs.
Hans is about to kill Anna so that Elsa will also die of the heat and so he can take over Arendelle with both royals dead, but Elsa sees Anna about to be hurt and rushes to protect her. When Hans reaches out his sword to stab Anna, Elsa is in the way and his sword touches her hand, instantly catching fire and knocking Hans back; Elsa then collapses, her body catching fire and writhing from the heat as tears run down her face. Anna watches Elsa be reduced to ashes and sobs, expressing how much she loves her sister as Kristoff looks on in horror. But Elsa rises from the ashes anew like a phoenix, as Anna learns love breaks the spell and uses her fire power to entertain as queen and learns how to control it, removing the eternal heatstroke weather.
It’s Anna who then goes on a journey of self-discovery to Atohallan, Elsa who gets in the relationship with Kristoff, and Anna who journeys to frozen Atohallan after taming the water Nokk, the icy lizard Bruni, Gale the wind, and the earth giants, and takes her place as the fifth spirit.
Tumblr media
As Elsa tries to escape the magical cave with Olaf, Anna witnesses true hate (as heat and fire projects and holds memories) at the hands of a memory of her grandfather who built the destructive dam who hurt the Northuldra. Anna then goes too far and is herself burned, restored to the corner covered in burns as the heat bothers her for the first time.
Olaf’s fire is put out, but Elsa gets a last-ditch message from Anna. Consumed with anxiety, she sobs, but finally manages to escape and angers the earth giants into breaking the dam and Anna, the fifth spirit, is revived in time due to Elsa’s love and rushes in with the Nokk to evaporate the destructive wave for Arendelle just before it hits.
Anna then becomes the protectess of the Enchanted Forest while Elsa marries Kristoff and becomes Queen.
You know, just a funny little scenario to think about!
I belive Nuru dress is supposed to be disney logic princess where they do these crazy things with long dresses and makeup and still look as good as before lmao.
I will say that it always bothered me how Nuru dress looks cause I absolutely love historic accurate clothing.
But Tangled is definitely not historical accurate in anyway shape or form. One of the developers(of the series) said that it was in set in 1400-1600. However, most fans have agreed that it's more likely around 1750-1850.
[responding paragraph-wise]
This first thing I never really noticed, but now that I think about it it kinda makes sense. Disney characters seem to always have perfect makeup and be squeaky clean a lot of the times, which is strange. Not a universal thing but more common than it should be.
Ah yes, finally someone with similar priorities 👾 (fashion history is so cool; it's nice to see other ppl every once in a while who also enjoy it :)
I've seen a lot of ideas from people about when Tangled is set, ranging from the 15th century to the 1850s. Personally, I would say it's set in the late 1830s/early 1840s. This is because the inspiration for a lot of the outfits and logistics(?) does seem to be from then, although yeah, none of the designs truly depict any history here.
[continued] Also, Rapunzel and Eugene are clearly and intentionally featured in Frozen, which is shown in a map to have taken place in 1843. This would imply that Tangled took place recently, so doubling back on 30s/40s. However, at the end of Frozen 2, Anna (I think) is introducing another character to cars??? but I can't find any evidence of this so was it literally just a big hallucination I had????? fam idk 🤡
Thanks for the ask! I'm not sure how to end this uhh like and subscribe and smAsh that bell icon-
Frozen nods/ Easter eggs in Wish
Now I had to make this post because initially many people thought it was the new Frozen but it's nothing like Frozen in its own good way. But I wanted to point out a few things that I thought were inspiration from Frozen. And that's given because Jennifer Lee is part of this movie too.
Note : This is not meant for comparison as to which is better as people have different opinions nor is it a who is better in characters either. Take this as Frozen Easter eggs if you must.
Queen Elsa and Queen Amaya
The thing I noticed is the similarities between Elsa's main icy blue iconic dress (In Frozen and the end of Frozen 2) and Amaya's gown and their personalities too. Queen Amaya is portrayed with a long braid, an off the shoulder dress with a layered middle slit on the skirt, a triangular or pointed waistline and two long see through capes and not too mention the pointed ends of the sleeves. Plus both are Queens. The skirt also has an upwards pointed design like Elsa's fifth spirit gown. Now I'm not saying this is a bad thing but just that it was clear Elsa was her inspiration for her character. She also has similar poses to Elsa as seen below and her personality is calm and modest as a Queen. If Frozen kept Elsa's fifth spirit necklace from the concept art then that'd be another similarity with both of them wearing necklaces/ pendants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amaya's design is honestly a very beautiful design and really gets me just excited for what Elsa's attire will be for Frozen 3 and 4. I'm just in awe of the dress structure too. I'm currently working on possibilities for that with Elsa's most iconic dress and her fifth spirit dress combining to one.
Hans and Simon
The other thing that I thought could be a nod and tease was to Hans with Simon. In my Wish review (previous post) I mention the good and bad sides to Simon's...
Spoilers below!!
... betrayal. In Wish, Simon betrays his friends and hands in Asha then the other friends. His friends call him a betrayer (I think it was). Then at the end after Magnifico is defeated, Simon apologizes to Asha. It was kind of a twist but I kinda saw it coming from the beginning and honestly not as good as Hans' twist despite him being the real villain of the movie and Simon not. In Frozen 2, everyone basically calls Hans a betrayer after he betrays the kingdom and Anna. But why I think this may be a possible hint of Hans' redemption in the upcoming Frozen movies, is because Simon apologizes too. Before I expand on that Simon does look like Hans with the shade of red hair too. But I know Hans won't be redeemed in the same way if he returns but I'm just saying it's possible that it's a hint by Jennifer (I know Hans fans would like to disagree but hear me out please) because I'm sure she has a sense of the story at the time of writing this.
I don't think it's right to compare Hans with Magnifico because they're nothing alike. Magnifico is self centered and loves power, in the magical and throne sense. Though Hans' movies appear as stealing the throne, if we read is backstory in 'A Frozen Heart' book, with the abuse by his brothers and father with no love or place it's kind of justifiable. Hans isn't self centered and wants the best for Arendelle even if it means killing Elsa to end this winter. Magnifico is a villain villain. Hans' has potential for redemption.
I know it's crazy but speaking of crazy...
“I/ We love crazy”
There's also a nod to Hans' “I love crazy” quote with Asha saying that talking animals and nature is crazy to which the talking mushrooms reply “We love crazy”. I loved it.
Just follow the string
Also I guess you could say, or at least I take the red string used by Star as a nod to Frozen Fever with Elsa using a red string to guide Anna to her birthday tour of presents around the castle and kingdom for Anna.
Valentino/ Star and Sven/ Olaf
With Valentino being the goat pet and Star being the magical creation born, it reminds me of Sven and Olaf. Valentino has a mischievous... I guess you could say.. personality and has a low/ deep voice. Sven doesn't talk but Kristoff makes his own voice deeper and humorous to do so. Star is a magical creation born out of a wish Asha, the protagonist, makes. He also has a humourous touch to him and a bit of nativity to him given he was just born. Olaf is the snowman Elsa, one of the protagonists, creates out of a subconscious desire to want to be free with her powers and feelings to create a snowman. Like Star he is funny, cute and is naïve at times. Not to mention both duos are chaotic and fun together and are males.
If I've missed any please do let me know and I'll edit it here! Hope you enjoyed Wish if you've watched it and enjoy Frozen's upcoming 10th anniversary while looking forward to Frozen 3 and 4!
Arendelle Castle Rooms Part 3 | Analysis
Part 2 continuing from the rooms shown in Frozen, I breakdown the courtyard, the right side castle exit, Hall and spiral stairs locations...
1. The courtyard
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ref: Elsa is confronted by the crowds after she bursts out ice in 'Frozen' | Elsa leaving the castle in 'Frozen' | "Ring in the season" in 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure')
As I was explaining where the throne room led out to, I found out that it was to the courtyard and that the opposite end leads to the great hall where tie Coronation takes place. The courtyard is where celebrations are held including for the people of arendelle such as the coronation, the holidays and Anna's birthday.
2. Right side castle exit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ref: Elsa leaves the castle through a different exit in 'Frozen' | Anna follows Elsa in 'Frozen' | "Into the unknown" in 'Frozen 2' | After the flashback in 'Frozen 2' | "Making today a perfect day" in 'Frozen Fever')
Elsa doesn't go out through the other main gate but instead turns left and heads for an empty exit with no people because she doesn't want to hurt anyone by mistake. From this exit she runs alongside that wall on the left to head to the North for the North mountain where she builds her iconic Ice castle. That's also the same exit she uses in her first solo in 'Frozen 2', in "Into the unknown". Turn right from the door in the last image above, you reach this right side castle exit.
@lovewillthaw-j explains this exit in detail in this (linked) post.
Really hope we see this exit in 'Frozen 3 ', given it's been in the two full length movies.
3. Hall and spiral stairs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ref: "For the first time in forever" in 'Frozen' | "Making today a perfect day" in 'Frozen Fever' | "For the first time in forever" in 'Frozen')
After she slides through the throne room, Anna runs and slides down the rail of the same sets of spiral stairs she rode her bike down in "Do you want to build a snowman?". The knights are in the same place too. The only error here is that the lamps are missing on the wall. We also see the same spiral stairs in 'Frozen Fever' when Elsa takes Anna bike riding down the halls. In between these stairs are a few floor levels and you can see above. Go to the top of the spiral stairs, you will reach the place where Hans and Anna dance on in "Love is an open door, which I go over in part 8.
These stairs are located on the left side of the main castle building where it features rounded structures. Thanks @lovewillthaw-j for helping me find this location! 💕 (See part 9 for the full view of each room with their locations in the castle)
Room locations to be continued in Part 4.
okay i was thinking about this meme earlier and it really ground my gears bc its like... not true?
Tumblr media
like first of all ik this is a little hyperbole and Not Exact but i still wanna talk about it a lil.
so like first of all the concept art i think this is based off is very early when elsa was the villain and looked a lot different to anna and anna looked the same but her silhouette was different
Tumblr media
and it does look cool and i do love it but this doesn't fit the direction the film went it so they changed it.
and you wanna know what much later concept art looked like?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kinda exactly like the film. bc the concept art changes. and its the same for other disney films.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's some tarzan early concept art vs the later ones
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the beast looks like a completely different species here than the completely different species he is in the later ones.
and like ik the frozen one is more dramatic of a change but the point is they all change for reasons and so does the plot and the actors and the script and everything changes.
but also like idk if Frozen is the film you wanna go for when you're talking about boring character design. so lets go through elsa and anna's journeys (just frozen 1 bc its 3am and im tired i just can't sleep until i finish this rant).
so the first time we see elsa and anna are at 7 and 5 years old respectively. as you can see, they both wear clothes simmilar to clothes theyre gonna wear later in the film. elsas clothes, hair, and colour scheme are very similar to what she transforms into at the end of let it go: hair braided and a very simple light blue dress. anna's look reflects her at elsa's coronation: a green dress with her hair tied back.
Tumblr media
if we look at elsa at her coronation, it's very different from what she wears from the rest of the film. it's still got shades of blue, but they're all much darker and it contains 2 colours she will never wear again in the enterity of the franchise, let alone the film: black and purple. it's also the only time that she wears something that covers her from neck to toe. in addition, her hair is pinned up. to me this represents her repression of her power at the fear that she can't use them or she'll hurt someone or worse: anna.
Tumblr media
lets move on to what anna wears at the coronation. its like a final evolution of the same dress she's been wearing the whole time. this shows that she hasn't really had to repress and can continue being her true self at the coronation. im gonna move on quickly because theres something more exciting that happens to anna's look very quickly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SHE'S WEARING A MORE CORMFORTABLE AND SLIGHTLY BLUER VERSION OF ELSA'S CORONATION DRESS! AHHH I LOVE THIS DESIGN SO MUCH EVEN HER HAIR IS DOWN HOW CAN ANYONE HATE THIS FILM'S CHARACTER DESIGN.
okay lemme calm down
its like a tactic when you're finding someone to ask yourself "what what they do?" you put yourself in their shoes and try and see things from their point of view. anyways anna is doing that with her clothes and its might be my favourite costume from the films? she wants to find elsa and help her and isn't scared of elsa even so much that she wants to be her. it's just so good. anyways moving on
Tumblr media
THIS iconic masterpiece. what the discourse is all about. like obviously it's less extravagant than the concept art but first of all the details? the snowflakes coming up from the dress? my girl just learned how to make dresses and already made a masterpiece with ICE! but then also this is representing her being someone who she couldn't have been since she was 7! imagine that! having to repress who you are, not being able to explore yourself and your abilities because you're scared it could hurt someone. and if elsa wasn't taught to be scared of her powers she wouldnt have tried to push anna way and freezing her heart and i just went far off topic.
but anyways this is like kinda why i hate this discourse bc yeah the original wouldve looked cooler but cooler doesnt mean better for the film and i also might have a small special interest in frozen who knows
