Yiddishe Gauchos, Argentina, early 20th century
At the end of the nineteenth century, thousands of East European Jews fled to Argentina from persecution and pogroms. These Jews became ranchers and farmers in the pampa, and were called Yiddishe (Jewish) Gauchos. The Yiddishe Gauchos, like their native counterparts, dressed in black hats and wide belts. They adapted the local customs, built communities and gave the pampa its own uniquely Jewish character.

Hi Robert. You know, I'm Brazilian. But I am a less internationally known type of Brazilian, as I live in the extreme south of the country, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Here we are known as "Gaúchos" and our typical clothing is more or less the one worn by Worf. In other words, Worf is the only gaúcho character in Star Trek! Ucho, Ucho, Ucho, Worf is a Gaúcho! We are very proud.

But how do you know he's a Brazilian gaúcho and not an Argentinian one?
I kid, I kid. Glad you count him as one of your own! LLAP.

Si alguien me dice "señor,"
agradezco el homenaje;
mas, soy gaucho entre el gauchaje
y soy nada entre los sabios.
Y son pa’ mí los agravios
que le hagan al paisanaje...
