with stuff like “polyhermits” do people imagine it as a full mesh network (everyone is dating everyone else) or a partial mesh network (each person is dating multiple people who are themselves dating multiple other people etc so everyone is connected even if not directly involved with eachother)

Throwback to my old computer science teacher, who left when I was in Year 9, who told me before I knew I was trans that I should consider going into the computer science field because I was good at it and there wasn't enough woman in computer science.
And now I'm sitting here, now a full-fledged guy, having failed my computer science gcse and not considering taking that any further anyway

Rui would make binary bracelets for his mates, except he probably wouldn't tend to have tons of beads lying around so he strings different coloured hex nuts onto the thread instead
this makes them terribly uncomfy to wear but everyone he gives them to keeps them on anyway because they don't have the heart to be like "Rui/Kamishiro, i am not walking around with bits of metal dangling off of my wrist"

day 80 of 100 days of productivity 💌
pretty simple day. we worked on domains and ranges in maths, then looked at Archimedes’ Principle in physics, then we had a revision lesson in computer science. i just spent the lesson working on my coding.
pictured is part of what i did. i was very proud, because this question came up in the very first CS assessment of the year and no one in the class got it. though it’s quite easy for us now, i’m very proud of myself for being able to write this entire program in one go, without testing once, and got it to work as desired. wahey!
i went home and revised for my computer science mock. i feel prepared and i’m happy-ish knowing i’ve really done as much as i can to revise, but i’m still terrified. wish me luck! :)

I think this was the first piece of Donovan and powell fanart I did?? I don’t remember much about it, just laughing hysterically in the early hours of the morning when I finished it, and now I feel the need to post it on tumblr since there’s such an absence of fanart for them.

DVD's as a technology are still so cool to me, your telling me that shows and movies are encoded as tiny pits and lands on a disc that is then read by a lazer and you get video and audio from that? Wack

🖤 100 days of productivity: 41/100
I had my English Lit Component 1 test today and IT WENT ALRIGHT!!!! I'll never have to memorise quotes for Romeo & Juliet and An Inspector Calls EVER AGAIN!!! FREEDOM!!! I have no exams tomorrow but I have two on Friday so there's no rest for the wicked today or tomorrow 😔 Luckily, Mr FreeScienceLessons is always on my side so I just need to finish up my notes so tomorrow I can do all the past papers AND revise for ICT (maybe not simultaneously though 🥲)

The computer science paper one sucked and was badly worded, and I left the exam room with a migraine that only childrens orange-flavoured paracetamol could fix

The woman responsible for the moon landing
#10 in Physics and Astronomy, 11/11/2023
Tumblr media
Pictured is Margaret Hamilton, posing next to the code that she and her team wrote to guide Apollo 11 to the moon! As the lead computer scientist on the Apollo program, her skills saved the otherwise doomed mission not long before it was destined to end.
Enthusiastic about maths from a tender age, Margaret became an expert in writing software following her time at university. Later on, she took a job at MIT, learning to write software that could predict the weather.
In the mid-1960s, MIT announced they were looking for programmers to send men to the moon. Immediately, she knew this was for her, casting aside her original plan to attend graduate school for a degree in abstract maths to pursue the space program. Shortly, she became the first programmer hired for this project.
One amusing story about her time working on this is the time she took her daughter into the lab. As a working mother, it was necessary. One day, her daughter pushed a button, causing the system to crash. She quickly realised the astronauts could make this mistake, too, so she recommended adjusting the software. This was cast aside with a callous response: “Astronauts are trained never to make a mistake.”
On the 20th of July 1969, three minutes before the planned landing, data from a radar system overwhelmed the computer; this had accidentally been triggered by the crew. This was the exact mistake Hamilton’s daughter had made. Within hours, this was corrected, however, if it wasn’t for Hamilton’s skilful programming, the computer would not have recognised that error in the first place.
In 2016, the 80-year-old Margaret received the President Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama. During the presentation, he stated, “Our astronauts didn’t have much time, but thankfully they had Margaret Hamilton.”
You may have wondered where the term ‘software engineering’ came from. Being a young, curious student, I wondered what drew the line between simple, creative hobbies, and real-time problem-solving. Margaret Hamilton, it appears, is one of the people who helped  paint this distinction.
She called her work “software engineering.” And for this, she was criticised. However, retrospectively, no one laughs anymore. The importance of programming, more specifically her work, is recognised properly now.

im gonna rank my exams so far now im halfway through for fun
1. English lit 1 (aqa) this is basically for the jekyll and hyde question alone it was absolutely beautiful. R+J question was pretty good as well.
2.English lit 2 another amazing english exam from aqa. I loved the unseen poetry question and the fact we were given 2 theme questions for an inspector calls. Before you were mine was pretty decent as well cause i can compare it to walking away the best poem
3. Combined Physics 1 (aqa trilogy higher) I did no revision at all for the paper and it was still piss easy. Best science paper by far.
4.Drama (edexcel) I found section A to be chill. Nice extract from an inspector calls. The 9 marker in section B was so strange but i figured out a solid answer
5. Maths 1 (edexcel higher) So much easier than most non calculator maths papers im used to. I know I fucked a few questions up but considerably less than i normally do. Also the fire alarm went off during this exam so we had like a weird 13 minute break standing outside. Strange.
6. French reading (aqa higher) This one was nice and pretty much exactly what i was expecting. Maybe its not my highest scoring paper but it was one of the least stressful ones which is why its this high up. Loved the translation at the end as well.
7. Geography 1 (aqa) It went pretty good except for the fact i didnt finish one of the 6 markers. I never finish geography papers though. Also the figure they provided for the question about flood management was awful and the 12 marker about plate boundaries was weird.
8. Combined Chemistry 1 nothing much to say tbh. Went decently but not really well. I dont really have any strong opinions on it.
9. Computer science 1 (OCR) surprisingly chill. No system architecture came up which was weird but nice. I think i did slightly better than i normally do on this paper.
10. Combined biology 1 This is supposed to be my best science but it was just a bit mid tbh. Definitely did not go awfully though just in comparison to my other exams its lacking a bit.
11. French listening I was expecting it to be shit and it was. The dog was the highlight of the paper, it can open doors!!
12. Computer science 2 never again.
Only 11 left omg im so fucking tired. Theyve mostly gone really well though so thats nice.

Computer Science coding GCSE papers are stupid
You write out the code with a pen on paper, no testing, no stack overflow. It's expected for the page you're writing on to get messy as you figure out that if statement on line 2 would work better as a while loop and there's an extra function that needs to be added somewhere. Writing code on paper makes you feel like an idiot and feels like what aliens studying humans would do when they come across an algorithm to code.
