shout out to when i told my dad about goncharov and he figured out it was fake because i told him "1973 martin scorsese film with robert de niro" and he said that wasn't possible because the godfather came out in 1972 and the godfather part II came out in 1974 and they wouldn't have had time to make a movie in between. a perfectly good jest, foiled by this man's weird and vast knowledge set

All this aroace character shipcourse has proven to me that a majority of people that interact in fandom cannot actually interact with characters and media outside of shipping and genuinely I believe you need to learn how to interact with media outside of shipping.

I feel like Pacific Rim, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves are kind of a perfect trifecta of action movies. They’re not necessarily Oscar material but they’re all great at being the kind of thing they are trying to be, they’re all entertaining but not afraid of being genuinely emotional, and they’re all generally not hampered by dumb sexist action movie nonsense because their main female characters have their own arcs, are not designed for the male gaze, and the main M/F relationships are platonic. More things like this please!!

They fooled you. You’ve been killing innocent daughters just like they did. Then, end it. No. I’m through doing what I’m told.

Me watching the first third of glass onion: man idk, it just doesn't have the same vibe as knives out. I mean we're spending *way* too long on the build up, Benoit Blanc isn't even acting like himself, and it feels like the story's almost over even though we're nowhere close to halfway. Kind of disappointing man :(
Me watching the last two third of glass onion: oh! Ohhhh! OH!! OHHHHH!!! OHHHHHHH!!!!! OHHHHHHHHHHH-

I feel like people don’t have the same genre expectations for horror as they do other genres. “Oh I didn’t like that horror movie because it was too horrific” imagine saying this about any other genre. Like, “I didn’t like that romance movie because there was too much romance” its the GENRE. You’re allowed to not like the genre as a whole, but that doesn’t mean you’re allowed to say a movie is bad because it contains the elements of the genre that you don’t like.
Gothic horror by nature contains a lot of themes of abuse, incest, and toxic relationships in general, and its ok to not like those elements. But you can’t demand that gothic horror doesn’t contain any of the elements that define it as a genre. Its like saying you want a cocktail but don’t want to taste any alcohol.

I never thought about this until I saw it seriously used, but the term "illegal ships" is just so fucking funny.
Like okay, do you think the whole Game of Thrones is a crime? That the millions of people who watched/read/worked on it are disgusting criminals who deserve to go to jail? Is that what you're implying?
"Illegal ships" do you know what the word fiction means?

shout out to Aardman for making a movie that has a lead female character that's well written and feels like a real person (even though she's a chicken), a predominantly female cast with only one or two supporting male characters (pulling a reverse Smurfette trope) whom all have diverse personalities and quirks, and a main romance between said female lead and the play boy male character that's an enemies to lovers that doesn't at all feel misogynistic or like they actually hate each other. And shout out to him for making the main mastermind villain a woman as well. It's an action-adventure movie with a female lead narrative that feels entirely gender neutral and it's one of the few I can think of that does this. Also shout our to him for making the chickens all look anthropomorphized in a way that isn't overly sexualized (or sexual at all really). If there were an award for "man who actually knows how to write female characters and present them as people" it would go to Aardman. Well done.

understated how important natasha’s character was for me in catws. like the first mainstream sci fi fantasy media i saw as a kid where the main character was a man (and they were 100% gaybaiting) but the narrative wasn’t constantly disrespecting or making fun of a female character for NO reason over it. like she was SO cool. a part of the team. not forced into a romance. a character in her own right. it was litchrally groundbreaking. still is even. bc people are still out here disrespecting women for yaoi that isn’t even happening in 2024
