#give disney a good lgbt rep
lily-orchard · 2 months
Note
Someone said Medrano writes “the straightest lesbians ever” and why are people like this? It reminds me of when Disney showed a trans male character on the Baymax shorts. People, who were LGBT and trans, said it was too in your face and should be done with subtlety. Like, you give people perfectly good, healthy gay rep and they still bitch and moan
What you're seeing here is the culmination of years of LGBT people in fandom having the worst takes in the universe.
Characters actually being LGBT isn't even considered compared to characters having certain mannerisms and appearances and tropes tied to them.
This is why certain characters are "LGBT Icons" when they aren't even LGBT, like Rose Quartz. A character who never expressed anything close to an LGBT identity, Oh but she changed her name and appearance and hides from her estranged family which is totally "the trans vibe."
See also: The people who seriously think Disney's avalanche of gay coded villains is something to admire.
It's that meme of "What's gayer? Being gay or whatever these two have going on?"
LGBT fandom is in a terminal brainrot after years of this shit, so just being gay and not being a pretentious cunt about it is seen as "the straightest gays."
"Oh this show has so many metaphors about identity and self determination" Okay well this show actually talks directly to you about the unspoken suffering of male sex workers without mincing words you pretentious little bitch.

Marvel/Disney giving us mlm rep: OK they're both side characters and actually one of them is barely a cameo, and they're only going to be shown as a wholesome family unit in daylight but they have to be shown IN THE DARK if they're even briefly intimate... despite the fact they're both dark skinned and this lighting does nothing for them... we'll also throw on a little Yellow Filter for no reason other than one actor is MENA. Yay?
Tumblr media
-
The Sandman on Netflix giving us mlm rep: OK this is only one episode of nearly one hour but these characters will have more screen time than the MCU has ever given you for LGBT characters, plus we'll show them in the daylight being cute. Oh also, they're only one of our MANY mlm couples in this entire show. You're welcome.
Tumblr media
For the love of LGBT, please watch The Sandman on Netflix and see how good we CAN have it when a studio is willing to do representation properly.
And by properly I mean, being part of the main story. Being onscreen longer than 3 seconds. Characters that have depth.
This is what representation is.

Some thoughts regarding Disney, Dana and The Owl House’s Future:
I’m so mad at Disney though! Besides the Homophobia there’s the lack of consideration for people in the animation and cartoon field who are undoubtedly being laid off due to the major downsurge in animator led projects being of “value” to streaming companies including Disney and Disney+ who isn’t dialing down on their amount of Marvel originals and movies.
If Disney actually thought The Owl House was marketable and decided not to can something because it has LGBT+ rep and talked about important issues kids, teens and young adults should know about in this day and age and shouldn’t be seen as controversial maybe we could get somewhere!
But I’m also happy and proud for the animators and other creatives who worked on The Owl House and fought Disney to bring POC LGBT+ rep to us while putting their jobs on the line to do it.
But that’s why I’m glad Dana and the others will hopefully move onto other projects away from Disney. I know a lot of people want a longer third season outside of the three 55 minute specials we’re gonna get but we’re still lucky we got a third season to wrap the plot up at all.
Will the story be rushed? Probably! I just hope no one threatens Dana and or the writers. Dana didn’t want to work for Disney anymore but it wasn’t her choice to cut the show off like that.
It was Disney’s choice if you want to be mad at someone be be mad at Disney for not giving The Owl House a fair chance.
No amount of “Save The Owl House” will change Dana’s mind on working with Disney or Disney not pulling the plug on The Owl House.
It’s okay to want more content and mourn the lost episodes we’ll never get but it’s also good to respect other people’s choices who are involved in the creative process.

The new Disney baymax series!! Omg it is amazing. Firstly it's nice and fun and secondly, aka the main reason for its quality... IT HAS GOOD LGBT+ REP like in one of the episodes there was a trans man/masc giving baymax a suggestion for a pad. Then they showed mlm attraction as well which was really cool.
All in all i just like it, it brings me to peace from all the negativity right now.

'Skirt-chasing heterosexual' will always be a terrible take on Stephen. Regrettably, my enthusiasm for DS nosedived after MoM, but I am in the process of writing an actual academic essay on Doctor Strange, a rainbow reading of the comics and a bisexual reading of the character. I don't know if I'll ever finish it, so the idea's out there if anyone wants to give it a try. Marvel placing their confirmed bachelor superhero in 1960s Greenwich Village, a cradle for LGBT rights in the US, was a Choice
Oh wow dear Nonny, I would LOVE to read this essay! I really enjoy essays and commentaries on nearly anything pop culture. And yes, placing him in Greenwich Village was definitely a choice. There’s a reason for everything, and where someone calls home tells a lot about who they are and what they value.
Who knows dear Nonny, maybe we’ll see them exploring Stephen’s involvement in the LGBT community in the future. But this being a Disney property, it’ll be unlikely 😞They’re cool with easily edited out side characters being LGBT, but unfortunately none of their key main characters can be part of the community. At least that’s what I noticed. And if a main-ish character is part of the community, they never really bring it up. Having a pin on America Chavez isn’t exactly good rep 🤷🏻‍♀️ But that’s just my thoughts.

thinking about the whole strange world situation and all the people who are saying to go see it legally as a way to... get back at disney? hurt them?? you guys realize that as long as they’re making money they don’t care, right? like yeah maybe they’ll see that putting a little more effort in lgbt rep can be profitable too but. that’s exactly it they won’t start seeing gay people as people but just as another demographic that they can market themselves to (which they already do, kind of, currently it’s just a constant experimentation of how much they can give them without pushing away conservatives). they don’t have morals in any direction the main goal is always profit and all you’ll be doing by going to see it at the cinema or on disney+ or whatever is give them exactly what they want. i’m not saying you should boycott it either just. media consumption isn’t activism. if you really think you can do some good by watching movies or whatever go support small creators but the idea that you could harm one of the biggest media conglomerates in the world by turning a product they didn’t advertise into a profit is ridiculous

That cook does not give a fuck about anything
Tambry just leaves her phone at the restaurant???? Bro???
A couple of Sev’ral Timez members are still alive at the Woodstick festival!!
I think that Love God and the groupies were doing some very not S&P approved things in that van
“Hippie Tea” THAT TEA HAS WEED IN IT
Alexander Hamilton has entered the building y’all!
“Oh I sure hope someone didn’t die!” Okay yeah Robbie’s parents are weird
Okay Robbie and Tambry are kinda cute together ngl
Is Grunkle Stan ordained?
Northwest Mansion Mystery
Okay this is where the Pacifica sympathy really kicks in
Okay that diversity joke at the beginning is golden
Holy fuck I hate those parents I hate that bell they treat her like a goddamn animal fuck them eat the rich
Okay we’re speed running the intro that’s cool
“The used to be about history channel” OH MY GOD
Damn Dipper is savage dude

Dipper Pines and class solidarity
“Your kind” OH FUCK THEM TO HELL
Oh yeah Pacifica’s cunt mom was like “it’s sea foam green not lake foam green change your dress” and then Pacifica wears fucking purple and she doesn’t say a word
Okay but why would they have paintings of all the awful shit the Northwest family has done it they want to seem so good?
The Northwest parents would rather let everyone else be wood forever, INCLUDING THEIR RICH BUDDIES, than have the “commoners” see them in a bad way. FUCK. THEM. EAT. THE. RICH.
“Is this bell broken?” YOU SHOUDL NOT BE USING A BELL TO CONTROL YOUR DAUGHTER LIKE A COW YOU BASTARD
I love how Grenda’s confidence won in the end
Ohhh boy apocalypse/Ford foreshadowing I’m on the edge of my seat yall
This episode was great but yeah I guess it kinda struck a nerve with me
I want a 2-hour video essay about this episode and how it correlates to Capitalism and the growing American class divide

🏳️‍🌈 - Give your thoughts on the Dream SMP's portrayal of queer/LGBT+ identity.
What a fun question, because beforehand, I hadn't really had much to say about the queer stuff in the DSMP. But that's a good thing, because I think that stems from how normal it is on the server.
Like, let's think about it: Most romantic relationships on the server are queer: the fiancés, Niki and Puffy, Sam and Ponk, and depending on how you view them, Tntduo and Beeduo--this isn't even including the brief flings other characters have had with one another. Heteros are basically in the minority. There is a conglomerate of characters who go by different pronouns and/or genders (Aimsey, Eret, Ponk, Punz, et cetra). The queerness is so integrated into this world. In every narrative perspective, at that!
While not every single person who has a queer character has the same sexuality/gender/pronouns as their character, I heartily accept these streamers playing into a spectrum they don’t fall into. Not only to explore different, spicy dynamics, but also for the sake of, as I said, creating a world that makes it so normal. Because even in modern day, we're not quite there yet.
But with this total normalization, there comes a caveat, but what I find to be a good caveat. It’s that the queer relationships are ones that are flawed and broken. That these people are people who do bad things, even to each other. That their relationship might not end up with a fairy tale ending. Literally every single one is/has been severely damaged at some point. Now, of course, so many friend-/familial relationships are complicated in the server, as well. But that's what makes it so good: they're not afraid to make queer couples shitty.
A good amount of queer rep in other media, specifically for younger audiences--because a big portion of the Dream SMP's viewship is teenagers (though some more adult media can be like this, too)-- prefers to give gays characters happy endings. Mostly in modern day, they’ll give gay characters flaws but still make them good guys (look at all those queer coded Disney villains in the olden days i.e. the Renaissance Era. Though they were THE BEST!!). Bury Your Gays is our beloathed. You won't see a lot of family media have queer relationships that break off permanently or be abusive/toxic or anything too negative, especially so when it's at the forefront of the story. This all gives you an idea of how we anticipate queer media to be presented in the modern era.
But the Dream SMP flips that whole idea upside down. The Fiancés had a good relationship that fell apart due to strained dynamics between one another, especially with Quackity obsessing with revenge and power. Sam literally ripped off Ponk’s arm. Tntduo... whatever the fuck’s going on there. Even the one canon wlw relationship in the server is strained due to their different stances on L’manberg, et cetra (I don’t think they ever reconciled? I don’t recall). We are watching them fall apart before our very eyes, because with these moments, they are the main characters! And none of these couples are happy. They’re all pretty fucked up.
And I fucking love that. It highlights that even queer rep can have couples that aren’t just complicated, but damaged to an irreparable degree. It makes them feel even more normalized, by recognizing that any couple can be miserable or fucked up. Having young people witness that dating your fellow gay won't be all rainbows and sunshine, and in fact it can even be heartbreaking or even toxic, is something I think young people need to see more.

Finished watching Baymax!
It basically confirmed what I thought it was going to be: a series about what Baymax gets up to during the day while Hiro's at school. Obviously it's not a very high-stakes show but it's still really good for what it is. I loved all the diversity and LGBT+ rep (I legit want San Fransokyo to be a real place), and how maturely it talked about periods. I also thought the episode on how allergies can emerge later in life was really important.
If I had any major disappointments, it would be that the rest of the gang doesn't show up, and that Hiro and Baymax don't get to hug (their hugs give me LIFE). But it still left me stoked for more, and I'd love to see more of San Fransokyo (and a sequel).
If you have Disney+ please give it a watch and let Disney know we still love Big Hero 6 and want more.

[In case anyone gives a shit, I'm ace/bi. I love queer romance etc and when I say explicit I don't mean sex. I mean being bold and upfront is it queer or not.]
man in the past I would rip into 'queer' stories on how they're not good enough, especially since it's 2022 and when love, simon came out I feel as if we're going backwards going back to subtext.
And when I point it out others call me queerphobic and yet there the ones who want to keep the status quo.
you have cartoons that have girls kissing, yet men can't even express they love each other almost leads back to sexism and only lesbians are approved for the male gaze. And the only LGBT rep we get are tv series that no one watches compared to love simon we havn't had any movies with lgbt as the main protagonist.
And as an ace I want ALL romanctic/queer stories written with subtext and good chemistry.
So when you see het having sex and lesbians kissing and barely any other type of stories of lgbt that aren't in high school going to prom.
I'm so sorry that I'm bitter and not sucking disney's dick for doing the bare minimum for doing they're 'first' gay characters that they can easily censor for 'international releases' and sorry I'm not nodding along like everyone happy with the 'scrap' that the western media is giving because I'm looking at all of these chinese releases such as White snake/Untamed that was released in a country that is so anti- lgbt make blatant queer content.
Meanwhile ours barely blurs between friendship and subtly romance and when pointed out we have two others argue it's not/is queer in a area that is SUPPOSED to be open and accepting of LGBT I can't help but compare the two and think,
Like companies that paint their logo a rainbow in june meanwhile actively funding anti-gay bills behind the scnes. Like the media we have thats actually trying to subtly shove true lgbt in the closest and make it straight washed comes across like a lie.
And when you have 'ally's tell the queer communtiy that expresses their sexuality that they're fetishishing the lgbt community when it's like, I'm supposed to find women attractive that's the point?
Either way I can't help but I don't feel very prideful instead I just feel disgusted that in the past I could complain that the community has issues and are silencing queer voices because it doesn't align with their family friendly ideals or influencer friendly.
Like June is slowly turning into a holiday to sell LGBT like merchendice like it's a brand and yet fail to use that money to fund LGBT communties- it's just a cash grab and I'm so fucking tired that no one is talking about it.
That lgbt is being exploited that we're not getting explicit movies about the whole community explaining what trans is or intersex etc a movie about a protag exploring their sexuality, a queer couple as adults who are not kids going to prom.
Worse is when people say "It's not subtext it's queer-code!" We don't need codes anymore. It's either queer or it's not. Queer code was fine in the 90's 20's. It's 2022. We should have MORE stories more quantity so excuse me for wanting better written stories that explores sexuality.
Excuse me for wanting a lot of stories that explore peoples relationship without using sex/kissing etc.
So yeah as an asexual I can't help but feel disgusted that people are using my sexuality as an EXCUSE to keep the lgbt stories as queer-code/subtle combared to the BLATANT hetero stories, and when I express my disgust they immedeitly become vulgur and say that if you want LGBT stories in that way you sexualising it.
As if to say that LGBT is deviant, and sexualised is digusting a platonic relationship/domestic relationship can still be conveyed WITHOUT being fucking gross about it.
Also, the fact that with current media saying something is 'LGBT' even though it's like grasping at straws and reading between the lines for a bare miniumum of a SLIVER of being queer. Is like a slap to the face.
Compared to 2015-18 we had a slew of LGBT media but now sure we have something in a tv series but I was expecting MORE like i don't know.
A love actually type story of multiple queer relationships. Thats completely platonic i don't know maybe I just want rent.
I also hate when I convey that compared to the 90's that had blatant representation current rep just feels watered down I get ally's calling me homoephobic and it pisses me off. ugh

It's not "refusal" to use explicit language for queer rep when they literally were not able too. I'm happy that we have more direct queer rep but we have to remember that it's only possible because of the long fight beforehand. People fighting oppression and being forced to do less than what they want to are not cowards. At any point this could all be taken away from us again so let's appreciate what we have.
Uses Q Slur
Advocates for just accepting less than the bare minimum and being happy with what we've got
Yeah you sound like someone who definitely doesn't hate themselves and definitely hasn't been browbeaten into accepting being treated like a second class citizen.
How the fuck do you think we get equality in the first place? Because it sure as hell isn't the complacency you're advocating you thick prick.
I've already laid out what I consider to be "Good Enough." AKA: The Bare Minimum. AKA a C Grade. And explicit language is part of that. If you can say Bi, you can say Ace. And there's no excuse for it.
I stop believing "They wouldn't let us" the moment a creator starts using Livestreams and Twitter to give character info. Especially for The Owl House, where Dana repeatedly said she received no pushback from Disney on the LGBT characters.

anyway, I am losing my mind over the gay pirates show because I am also one of those people who had to suffer through queerbaiting and subtext for years, and Our Flag Means Death really said "we'll have none of that" and made it all TEXT and sidestepped all the lazy harmful tropes and plot beats and gave us a hodgepodge of "stede/ed romantic dramedy", "the Revenge is a workplace comedy", "Jim was trained by nuns to kill the people who slaughtered their family, complete with serious Spanish guitars" and "Izzy is the human actor in a Muppets movie".
every little goddamn thing this show did, every little goddamn decision they made has been such a relief. Jim uses they/them and isn't a bearded mute? Crew gets over it in half an episode. Izzy tries to weaponize Lucius's flirty personality against him and Black Pete? Totally failed. Calico Jack tried to get on Stede's nerves about his and Ed's past relationship? Stede says that's Ed's past and business and that's that. Mary? oh my god, the entire thing with Mary, I love how that was handled, I really do. this show is so bonkers mad, they even added a fucking montage when she and stede talked about what it means to be in love I mean what in the fuck??????
the moonlight scene, the beach scene, the "Choose your next words wisely, dog" / "Unhand me or bleed" parallels, and "Ed. His name is Ed." fucking end me already.
Season 1 did not end on a happy note but I am so happy and fulfilled and hopeful as long as HBO fucking confirms that Season 2 is fucking happening.
also, Halo has a show now? I was so surprised to hear hangul being thrown back and forth by these Madrigal (the fucking whiplash bc I just saw Encanto last week) rebels, like????? what is happening???????? I already saw a critical review of this show but Idgaf, Kwan is a korean teen girl who's playing the Grogu to Master Chief's Din Djarin in a show that is giving me strong Mass Effect vibes, I'm on this ride until the show dies.
also I know next to nothing about Halo, which is such a relief. sometimes it's nice to know fuck all about a Thing. no pressure, just a Fun Time.
also, Cortana? as in that annoying voice in my computer? was that originally a Halo thing or a Microsoft thing what the fuckkkkkkk
#our flag means death#halo the tv show#ofmd spoilers#by this point I'd just fucking accepted that I'll just have to write/draw the things I want#because the stuff I'm interested in? nah they're not gonna give me anything compelling and worthwhile and Good#i mean ffs DIsney is fucking getting its shit rocked bc upper management is so gross about fucking everything on top#of already being fucking gross about fucking everything#and like. I stopped watching Supernatural after Season 5 but you never truly leave that show do you? and to see how it all ended... LOL#I was in the Teen Wolf fandom briefly. on the periphery. I did stupid things and I also witnessed stupid things#that show did so much to show me just how fucking fucked up everything is. it made me such a cynical bastard about everything#like. every time Disney trots out their First Gay Character Ever. every time the MCU queerbaits#that fucking 2 second shot of the women kissing in the background at the end of TROS#(also the whole live slug reaction meme)#every time i hear people chatter about their shows and movies and comic books#the fears of queerbaiting and pandering. killing your gays. making every conflict about the gay experience and the phobes#we need more stories where queer characters get to have the same conflicts and plots that cisgender people do#wouldn't that be so damn fucking nice?? look what this gay pirates show did#hell. now i'm interested in black sails because of the chatter i saw comparing OFMD to it#it is just so goddamn overwhelming to see a show that doesn't fuck around the lgbt+ community to appease the straights#okay but seriously? halo has korean rep? what the fuck???? so much happened tonight i can't compute this#how the fuck am i supposed to go to sleep now|?????

What’s his name, Marvel?
Tumblr media
Image description: actor Haaz Sleiman, slated to appear in movie Eternals.
(NB: For the record, any of my criticism on this post is directed to Marvel Studios and Disney, not to the actor Haaz Sleiman (pictured above) nor Eternals co-star Brian Tyree Henry, whom I wish nothing but the best for.)
Now, I have some marketing moans about Eternals from Marvel studios.
It is August, 2021.
There's been a buzz about the MCU's "first openly gay character" recently (how dare y'all disrespect Gay Joe Russo like that), and that the character, Phastos (played by Brian Tyree Henry), will be shown in the movie to be married to another man (played by Haaz Sleiman).
The MCU's first gay couple, as Marvel studios themselves keep touting.
Anyway, I wondered to myself: what's the husband's name?
So I set to Google.
I Googled the cast list for Eternals, and this a screenshot from today of the lower end of the results:
Tumblr media
Image description: Eternals cast list from Google, where actor Haaz Sleiman is listed as “Phastos’ husband”.
Ah, no name.
The text under the actor's name simply says "Phastos' husband".
Okay, so I went next to IMDB, to search the 'full cast and crew' section, of which there is only 19 listed as of today (and I'd expect that list to grow after the movie releases).
IMDB screenshot:
Tumblr media
Image description: IMDB listing for Eternals, actor Haaz Sleiman has no character name listed.
These are the bottom four results on the IMDB listing, and Sleiman's "Husband" doesn't even have the word husband listed.
Below him is a named character, Karun, and two 'uncredited' characters such as 'Girl' and 'Passerby'.
Um... Right.
Now, I'm not trying to be difficult. I just want to know what this guy's name is. I also want to know: why isn't his name listed? Why isn't it easy to find?
I've browsed Google for articles on this nameless husband for the past half an hour, and the only sparse information I can find is seemingly one interview/quote that the actor (Haaz Sleiman) has given, stating that his character and Phastos share an onscreen kiss.
That's great, but what's his name?
I'm getting the impression that Husband (we'll have to just call him that for now) isn't going to have a prominent role in this movie, considering he's nameless and so far down on cast listings.
Just one up from 'uncredited', basically.
News outlets refer to his character as "Phastos' husband" only. Withholding a character's name makes no sense, unless that name/character themselves is a spoiler.
Yet... I'm not really getting that vibe from Husband, I'm getting more of a walk-on role vibe from him/this character. And if that's the case, his name won't be a spoiler, so why isn't is more widely available?
Leaving him nameless while also watching Disney/MCU pat themselves on the back for this gay rep onscreen feels disrespectful to his character.
Is he a well rounded character, or a nameless walk-on with one line?
All we know is from Sleiman's direct quote: "I'm his husband, I'm an architect, we have a child."
That's great, but did Disney give you a name?
Sigh.
I'm really trying to reserve my judgement until the movie is out (we may have to wait until 2022 if it gets delayed), and I'd love to be pleasantly surprised...
But then I remind myself this is DISNEY and Disney's track record with LGBT+ rep has often been hyped up only to fall flat and ring hollow when actually seen onscreen.
See the afore mentioned Gay Joe Russo in Avengers Endgame (2019), and LeFou's "exclusively gay moment" which was more like a vaguely gay nanosecond in Beauty and the Beast (2017). Hardly great rep.
And another barely there moment (two seconds, was it?) in Rise of Skywalker (2019) when two women share a kiss (Commander Larma D'Acy kisses her pilot wife Wrobie Tyce) in celebration at the end.
I rather fear we're going to get another two seconds, blink and you'll miss it, kiss between the two married men in Eternals.
Disney is putting so much emphasis on any visibly gay couple being MARRIED in order to kiss (while Hetero characters kiss and more without being married), attempting to package their gay characters as homely, 'respectable', and more palatable to a Het audience, but if one of these characters doesn't even have a name then how is it any better or more meaningful than the nanosecond that 2017's Beauty and the Beast served up?
How is a character going to matter when he doesn't even have a name? You're trying to tell me he'll be important to the story, to audiences? Doesn't seem like it from here.
Now, I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.
I'd love to see this character in Eternals get a name other than "Phastos' Husband" (I'll be keeping an eye on listings for a name, too.) I'd love to see him have lines, I'd love to see him onscreen generally.
I want to see him matter.
As always, Disney wants us to 'wait and see', a line they often feed us when it comes to MCU characters.
Disney knows queer fans are here, they prove that enough by leaning into queerbaiting with their marketing (Bucky Barnes, and more recently Loki have suffered from this) but Disney rarely delivers anything satisfactory.
Writer Russell T. Davies, of fan favorite show Torchwood, recently said that Disney's attempts to show Loki as bi were "a feeble gesture". (He's right and he should say it.)
I'm not exactly holding my breath with Disney here, but I'll wait until I see Phastos and Husband for myself before I decide if it's any good or not.
Or if this poor dude ever gets a name.
In the meantime, all I want to see is Disney treating this supposedly ground breaking new character with the same respect as the other cast: list his name.
List his name with the rest of the main cast.
It shouldn't be this difficult to find out a character's name in a major movie, and especially not if the studio is making a big deal about the character being there, giving themselves points for rep.
If that name is out there somewhere (I gave up looking, it shouldn't take longer than thirty minutes to locate a name for God's sake), then it needs to be made more prominent so fans can find it.
Google and IMDB would be ideal places to have the character name listed.
If IMDB can list 'Girl' and 'Passerby' onto the uncredited roles, then we should also have a simple NAME for this Husband so we can start using it.
What's his name, Marvel?
~*~
Do YOU know what Husband's name is? Tell me!
#PhastosHusband

the only reason i think lokius has like a 1% chance of becoming canon is because the director (screenwriter? I forgot who lol) is bisexual herself and that gives it a higher chance of becoming canon rather than if Loki were written by a straight person. other than that if marvel writing would tell me anything it would be that sylki is 100% coming true :/
I honestly don't know what to think about it anymore either. Ever since the "Sylvie will betray Loki" theory I'm no longer convinced that Sylkie will be a thing, cos Sylvie is just very suspicious to me right now. But again, Loki and Mobius would be VERY bold and this is Disney after all. They're not known to be bold about LGBT rep.. like at all. My only hope is season 2 tbh. If they see how beloved this pairing is, maybeeee it has a slim chance. The fact that we got a proper hug with these two and not just a bro-slap on the back like Marvel loves to do it gives me a teeny tiny piece of hope. They're just really good together and the writers gotta see that too. They have the chance to FINALLY give us a gay couple in the MCU and I just hope they take it. Can't believe it's 2021 and we still have yet to see a same-sex kiss...makes me sad.

SIGNAL BOOST: CREATORS DON’T GO TO DISNEY
Listen, usually I wouldn’t tell future creators were to go if they want to get their work shown as a movie or series, but I gotta say this. I grew up with Disney and the movies/series are a BIG part of my childhood but while I am forever appreciative of the workers behind the actual content I am now VERY displeased with executives:
1. Overpay actors and underpay the people behind the grunt work.
2. How they have a habit of trying to go back on their deals - from Sony to Scarlet Johannsen
3. Tying into the above, they’ll always make it seem like the other party’s fauly despite them being in the wrong. And now that they lost the lawsuit by ScarJo, their all like best buds but didn’t even apologize for their earlier comments
4. The cancellation of The Owl House. Why? Creator Dana Terrace said it was because it “didn’t fit their brand”. Bullshit. They greenlit the series so they KNEW what kind of show it was going to be. It’s like with Infinity Train. These DUMBASS executives cancel a show because they don’t like it or it doesn’t fit them but don’t seem to understand that a critically acclaimed show that got awards is something you WANT to keep. Honestly, it felt like Disney was looking for ANY excuse to cancel TOH. Also, who gives a FUCK about the executives’ feelings as long as the show is meeting the standard.
5. The minute you sign with Disney, they OWN your story and characters. And believe me they WILL disrespect your creations at some point in some way.
6. They are fake empowerment. Whether it be racial, LGBT, or female. I bet you’re thinking: “But what about Disney Princesses? And their recent POC heroes?” One of the Encanto artists said she and other crew had to practically fight to make Luisa muscular, they demanded Nefcy give Marco from SVTFOE guy friends because they people wouldn’t relate to a guy have a lot of female friends, how they shrank Finn from Star Wars down/covered up T’challa’s face in the posters for China, Coogler mentioned how he had to fight to put in the dance scene in Black Panther, and do I even have to mention how they are complete chickenshit when it comes to LGBT rep but during Pride month they were all like “everyone’s welcome under the rainbow”. Yeah, they’ll brag about it about them now because of their success but don’t be fooled: They are NOT allies.
7. How they shut down Blue Sky Studios for no reason and now using their IP in the most distasteful manner.
8. If you have original work, believe me they will try to sanitize it to make it more “family friendly”. Look, I’m not saying everything has to be dark but some need a little edge to them.
9. From a creative standpoint: All they care about now are rebooting old projects, live action remakes, putting out Marvel movies, and putting out Star Wars content. This isn’t a bad thing (except the live action remakes) but you need variety in your work. Making originals. If you just create the same kind of stuff, it gets boring.
10. How they attempted to trademark important cultural events in the past (i.e. the Day of the Dead)
Look, for the love of God, for any famous creator and future famous creator, do NOT go to Disney. At this point, Netflix is even a good choice (though they still have issues). Or go to, Paramount, Apple, or make your own company. Heck, there’s this new studio opening up whose goal it is to make original content and diverse storytelling: Spire Animation Studios. It may take longer but believe me I think it’s better in the long run.
PLEASE RE-BLOG THIS.
