Acts of intimacy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eyes shot open as you woke up from your slumber. It took you a minute to realize where you were. This was not your room, not your bed, not the scent of your home but everything fell into place as memories of last night clouded your vision.
Jackson and you ended up at his place, getting to know each other on a whole new level. Greedy kisses, lustful touches and heavy moans filled his walls for hours, until the two of you were too exhausted and had to take a break.
From the moment you met him you assumed he was a passionate lover but he outdid all the expectations you had of him. He did his hair style justice as he showed you his two prominent sides: the dark, dominating, hard one and the light, romantic, intimate one. Jackson was far from ordinary, but so were you.
And now he was laying behind you, still sound asleep. You felt his naked body on yours. Memories of you kissing every ab of his followed by sucking him off made you blush.
Suddenly, Jackson shifted and hugged you, pulling you closer to him. His big hands held you tightly, just like they did last night. You swore you could still feel his grip on your hips, the skin would definitely be bruised. He caught you by surprise as he murmured in his sleep. You couldn’t understand a word, you were too preoccupied with the deep tone of his voice anyway. You adored his voice, especially when he used it to demean you.
„You like being fucked like that? What a bad whore you are.“
Just thinking about it made you wet. Jackson must have sensed it as he slowly woke up, too. His voice was even raspier than before.
„Baby, are you up?“
You nodded.
Jackson felt you up and stopped at your tits, kneading them thoroughly. „I can’t believe what we did last night“, he chuckled amused. You felt his cock grow hard again, pressing into you. „Fuck, I want to go again but I’m so tired. Are you?“
His voice was soft and deep from exhaustion. You placed your hand on his and guided him down to your pussy, making him feel your wetness. Jackson sucked in his breath, less exhausted now.
„Baby, you’re insatiable“, he whispered into your ear as he played with your pussy. Circling, sliding, stretching - he was finger fucking you, making you melt within seconds. You grabbed his wrist for stability as you buckled your hips, loud moans escaped your pretty lips once more.
„Fuck, you’re so good for me. My sweet little whore.“
And with that you came all over him, again. Jackson smiled into your neck, leaving small kisses on your damp skin.
„I really like making you feel good like that, y/n. Can you make me feel good, too?“
You would have done anything for him. Quickly, you wanted to turn around but felt him blocking you moving.
„Stay that way. I want to slide into you from behind and… sleep within you. Is that ok?“
You giggled at the idea. „Your dick wants to sleep in my pussy. Is that it?“
Jackson nodded. „Please. Keep it warm in your pretty tight hole for me.“
You pressed your ass against his hips, signaling him to do it. Jackson let out a deep grunt as he pushed himself in you easily, your pussy was welcoming him dearly with your warmth and wetness. „God, you have no idea how good that feels“, he praised you once more.
For him, this wasn’t a kind of cockwarming, no to him this was an act of intimacy - something he craved dearly and finally found in you. You moved your hips, unsure if he had found the best position yet.
Jackson’s hands landed on your hips immediately, holding you in place firmly. „If you keep moving like that we won’t be sleeping anytime soon, Princess. Give me some time to refuel, okay? I promise I’ll make you scream my name before breakfast.“

Caught Making Out - all members
~ mark ~ The both of you were sitting on beanbags in front of the tv, playing games. You'd initially started playing with some of the other members, but when you and Mark played together, all that existed was each other and it was a never ending competition. Eventually everyone'd just given up and left you two to it.
Neither of you minded, though, because you loved being in each other's company. The words win and lose flashed onto the screen in red and blue respectively, and you dropped your controller, smiling at your boyfriend. "Ha! You owe me an ice cream," you told him.
He shook his head sadly and looked at you, pouting. You giggled, giving him a quick kiss. "Cutie,"
He pulled you back towards him, kissing you deeper. It only lasted for a few moments, though, because you were interrupted. "Hey, do you guys-" BamBam stopped abruptly, noticing what was happening. "EeEeeeEewwWW," he said, before turning around and leaving, trying to erase the image from his mind. You both laughed.
~ jaebeom ~ It was already nearly 12am and your boyfriend still hadn't finished in his studio. You decided to pay him a visit. Walking past the doors of the other members before reaching his, you entered. "Hey,"
"Mm, hi," he barely replied, glancing at you before returning to his work. Feeling somewhat ignored, you sat on the small couch behind him, boredly staring at the back of his head. "Will you be long?"
"Sorry, I..." he hesitated for a few moments, looking back at you before getting up. "I'll take a break, then,". You smiled, scooting over a bit as he sat next to you. "Couldn't sleep?"
You shook your head. "I missed you," you replied, earning a smile from him. "I'm sorry for being busy,"
"You can make it up to me..." you said quietly, leaning closer to him. There was silence for a few moments as you both just gazed into each other's eyes, before the distance closed and his lips met yours.
Forgetting that door was slightly ajar, all that existed was the both of you, before you were interrupted by Jinyoung entering the room. "Jaeb-"
You both parted, eyes darting to Jinyoung as he closed his eyes briefly and let out a sigh. "Close the door next time," he advised, before exiting and doing so.
~ jackson ~ All 8 you were sitting in the living room, watching the second movie of the night. You sat next to Jackson, snuggled up to him at the far end of the couch, his arm around you and the both of you sharing a blanket. The way you were sitting was really comfortable, and you felt your eyes beginning to droop.
"Are you feeling sleepy?" your boyfriend asked, his voice low. You nodded your head, sitting up straighter and focusing on the movie. "I want to see how this ends first, though. Keep me awake,"
He moved closer to you as you focused on the tv screen, replying softly: "Sure,". For some reason you felt like there was something else he was implying, but you continued watching. Until he planted a kiss on your neck. Blushing and slightly surprised, you scolded him quietly. "Jackson...!"
"You told me to keep you awake," he replied, with a playful smile before doing it again. You giggled. "I didn't mean- Jackson... stop it tickles,"
Of course he didn't, and as you continued to embarrassedly fight his kisses, you hoped none of the other members would notice the both of you.
"Jackson," you begged, tiredly. "I want to watch,"
He smiled again. "At least you're awake now,"
You gave a sigh, though there was a smile on your face, and continued to watch the movie. Around 10 minutes later, you noticed he was looking at you. Flustered, your eyes met his. "Yes?"
He sat up and leaned closer, like he was going to say something serious. "You're pretty,". Face turning red, your eyes didn't leave his as you searched for something to say. Seeing you speechless, he brought his lips to yours, and all thoughts of the movie left you.
The other members definitely noticed. Yugyeom whispered to Jinyoung. “Are they-” “Yes,”. By now they were already used to you and Jackson's antics, so they tried to watch their movie in peace.
~ jinyoung ~ You'd slipped earlier that day, on some spilled water you hadn't noticed in the kitchen, hurting your ankle. Now you sat on your boyfriend's bed in his room in GOT7's dorm, listening to all the commotion outside as they arranged to take you to the hospital.
Your leg lay on top of a few pillows, cared for as much as possible by Jinyoung even after you insisted (half-heartedly) that it didn't hurt that bad. The door opened and your boyfriend entered the room, a cup of water in his hand. He sat next to you, obvious concern on his face. "Does it still hurt?"
"Not when I move," you replied, giving him a reassuring smile.
He nodded. "We'll take you to the hospital in a few minutes," he told you, handing you the cup of water.
Taking it from him, you brought it to your lips, drinking it as he held your hand thoughtfully.
Putting the cup on the nightstand, you sat up, squeezing his hand and causing him to look at you. "I'm lucky to have you, you know?"
He smiled. "I'm lucky to have you too,"
You placed a small kiss on his lips, causing him to blush slightly. "You looked cute," you explained. He reached out, tucking a few loose hairs behind your ear affectionately. "I love you,"
"I love you too," you replied, noticing the way his eyes darted to your lips. Smiling, you pulled him towards you and kissed him. Not wanting you to pull away, he deepened it, and your arms snaked around his neck.
Then Yugyeom appeared in the doorway. "Hyung, the-". The both of you pulled away from each other, but he'd already seen what was happening. He blushed. "HyyUUnggg oh my god," he turned around, embarrassed, and began to leave. "We're ready to go if you're... done," he said, refusing to look at the both of you, before closing the door.
~ youngjae ~ You and Youngjae weren't really the PDA type of couple. Majority of your affection was shown in private, and you mostly just held hands when you were outside, or cuddled a bit when you were with the other members. You now sat on his lap as he sat cross-legged on the floor of the dance practice room, your head resting on his shoulder as he drank water.
He'd been doing some extra practicing by himself before you convinced him to take a break. "You're overworking yourself,"
"I need to get it right,"
"You got it perfect the last 20 times!"
He chuckled and gave you a peck on your cheek. "Thank you,"
Sitting up, you turned around so you were facing him, both your legs at his sides. You smiled. "I love you,"
"I love you too,"
Not really knowing why you wanted to, you met his lips momentarily, earning a somewhat shy smile from him. "What was that for?". You shrugged, smiling back. "I just felt like it,"
He pulled you closer to him than you already were, his hands on your waist before kissing you again. This time it lasted longer, and soon the both of you had almost completely forgotten where you were. It felt like you suddenly had millions more nerve endings, his fingers leaving trails of fire on your skin, jumbling your thoughts.
You almost didn't notice when Jackson entered the room. Getting off your boyfriend's lap slightly breathlessly, Jackson realised what was happening.
He smiled. "Sorry to interrupt, don't mind me, I'm just getting my water bottle," he walked across the room, picking up the bottle in question, giving the both of you a small wave before leaving.
Silence ensued before Youngjae leaned towards you, his low voice sending a shiver down your spine. "Let's go to my room,"
~ bambam ~ The wind rustled leaves and played with strands of your hair as you walked in the park with your boyfriend and his friends. They'd been practicing a lot the past few days, and you decided you should all go and get some fresh air.
Bambam held your hand as you walked in silence a little way in front of the others, before suddenly pulling you with him off the path.
"Bam...! Where-,"
"Somewhere," he replied, bringing you around some trees and into an area of the park you hadn't been to before. It was really pretty, with flowers on the bushes surrounding and on some trees above.
"Wow," you said, quietly, looking around.
"I found it a week ago and knew I wanted to bring you here," he explained, smiling, removing his hand from yours and slipping his arm around your waist.
"Thanks. It's beautiful,"
"Like someone I know,"
"Really?" you asked, pretending to be confused. "Is there someone I should know about?"
He laughed softly, turning you to face him and pulling you closer. "Yes. She's standing in front of me right now,"
Smiling and blushing, you gave him a quick kiss before he returned it, and it was like the both of you were in your own personal bubble, before it popped.
The other members found your hiding spot, resulting in them stumbling upon the both of you standing in the middle of it.
"Oh my god," "Get a rOOm,"
~ yugyeom ~ He tried to keep his eyes off you as you intently watched the movie on the television. You had stolen his sweatshirt earlier that day, and Yugyeom tried not to be affected too much by the way it looked on you, but his efforts did nothing to calm him down.
*** Yugyeom carried you in his arms and back towards his bedroom because you'd begun to fall asleep. Your protests didn't stop him, though, because he didn't want you to be tired the next morning.
You both sat next to each other in the dark room. "I'm not even that sleepy," you told him.
"We're getting up early tomorrow, remember?"
"I'm not a kid," you replied, looking away from him. You heard him sigh and there were a few moments of silence. "Are you mad at me?"
You reluctantly shook your head and turned back to him. "Not really. I'm glad to have such a caring boyfriend,". He smiled and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you onto his lap and resting his chin on your shoulder. "You... you look really cute in my shirt,"
You giggled and he could feel the sound through your back. It made him blush. "That's why you couldn't stop looking at meeee?"
"Mhmm," he replied. Suddenly feeling like teasing him, you had a cheeky smile on your face as you spoke. "Do you want to take it off?"
You felt him stiffen behind you before gripping your sides and pulling you back onto the bed, leaning towards you. "Only if you want me to," he replied, half-jokingly, to tease you back.
Now you both had no idea who was serious and were both just staring at each other in the dark. Frustrated, you reached out, pulling him towards you, before your lips found his.
Your boyfriend was nearly hovering over you, and you were halfway lying on your back when you were both loudly interrupted by Bambam. “Gyeom where the heck is my-” he stopped in his tracks as Yugyeom let go of you and sat up.
“What the-... everyone here needs holy water,” he ended, before stepping backwards and leaving the both of you to it.

Again - Chapter 3 (Teaser)
Pairing: Jaebeom x Reader
Rating: 18+ (this chapter only)
Story Index:
Prologue    Chapter 1   Chapter 2
It started with a trace of fingers up the legs.  Or maybe it was a whisper behind your ears.  But here you are, pinned down by his strong frame on top of you, writhing as JB simultaneously nibbled away at your neck and kneaded your breasts.  The air was thick and damp inside the cave.  Even with the small fire crackling red hot just six feet away, goosebumps still ran up and down your spine.  Your cheeks, however, were flushed.  You think his fingers would probably incinerate if he touched your face right now.  Time became hazy inside this little seaside cavern and you don’t quite know how long it’s been since you ducked in to hide from the relentless storm outside.  Cuddling for body heat had quickly escalated to lips smashed together and hands wandering to explore each other.  As fingers sought to capture and memorize every single curve and turn of your bodies, it felt as though you had been here, in this hideaway, kissing since the beginning of time.
His lips now broke away from your neck and started moving lower across your chest, your stomach, leaving behind a trail that electrified your skin.  They were heading towards the part of your body that had tensed and contorted itself into a bundle of nerves. The epicenter of desires.  Just as you prepared yourself for the next wave of pleasure though, everything stopped.
Confused, you tried to crane your neck and find his eyes.  But you were surprised by gentle taps on your thighs as his hands then led them to open up wide in front of his face.  His lips reattached to your body at your knees and the journey now moved north along the longitude of your thighs.  It was slow, and agonizing as he administered every lick and tickle, clearly intending to subjugate you to his whims utterly and completely.
When his mouth finally made contact with your soaked panties, he pulled away again.  And the next thing you felt was a draft of cool air up the insides of your thighs towards your core.
“Oh.” was all you could stutter and swallow.

Phoenix Aurora Chapter 4 (Got7 Jinyoung X OC)
The rest of the trip to Yuan went rather uneventfully. Up until the last day of traveling, Jang Soyoung’s warning went unexplained, and for the time being, Jinyoung decided he didn’t need to know more. In time, he would find a chance to observe them for himself once he settled in at Yuan. For now, he would make do with learning what he could from the materials Soyoung had given him.
And besides...there were other things he had to wonder about before he could even think about court officials.
For example, his upcoming wedding to the woman sitting across from him who he had just met.
Jinyoung shook his head as he imagined the wedding that he knew he couldn’t avoid, barely able to suppress the sigh rising in his chest. He directed his attention instead to the scenery outside the carriage they were sitting in, and noticed they were arriving at the city gates. His heart skipped a beat as he realized they were arriving at his new home. Seeming to realize the same thing, Jang Soyoung put down the documents she was reading and pulled back the flap covering the front of the carriage.
“Hyojun.” She called. Im Hyojun turned from his place at the front of the procession, and without another word held out the reins to the riderless horse that was walking alongside him. In one fluid motion, the empress leapt from the carriage and landed neatly on the horse, slipping the reins into her hands as she did so. Jinyoung stared at her in shock as the entire procession continued towards the city gates.
How…?
Somehow, she had managed to do all of that in one fluid motion, without even calling the procession to a stop! Jinyoung sighed and shook his head, deciding it was better not to ask. It seemed there were still plenty of tricks his fiance had in store.
“Should I take a horse too?” Jinyoung called, pulling open the carriage flap.
“No need.” Jang Soyoung replied, turning her head ever so slightly to look back at him, “You only need to open the window slightly so the people can see you.” Slightly confused, Jinyoung nodded.
“Okay.” He replied. As the procession passed the gate checkpoint and entered the main street, Jinyoung heard the sound of delighted cries rising on the street.
“The Empress has returned!”
“Your Majesty!”
Jinyoung peeked out of the window curiously, wondering what was happening. His eyes widened as he saw people lined up and down the street, waving in delight at Soyoung as she rode by. Soyoung kept a soft warm smile on her face as she waved back, and for a moment Jiyoung found himself mesmerized by the young ruler. There, in the warm sunlight, she looked every inch the ruler that she was, tall and elegant, her long hair blowing in the wind, the receiver of adoration from her people. She may be just a woman, but Jinyoung could already tell that she had held the throne better than many other men before her. It was rare to receive such open adoration; it was clear the empire had been thriving under her rule.
Some of the people looked curiously at Jinyoung as they passed by, and he hesitated for a moment before offering a tiny smile to the people looking at him, half hidden behind the curtain covering the window. The people would be curious about him for sure; what kind of man had the adored female ruler chosen for her prince consort? Was he a warrior, just like she was? Would he be helpful to her in court, or a useless stone that would drag her down? Was he worthy to take her hand in marriage? Those questions, and more were certainly running through everyone’s mind at the moment.
In this new, foreign place, Jinyoung would have to prove his worth. He wasn’t sure how he would have to do it, but he had a feeling trials would come and find him without him even trying.
When they arrived at the palace gates, the carriage came to a stop, and Soyoung pulled open the flap covering the carriage.
“Come on.” She said, holding a hand out to Jinyoung, “We’re going to walk in.” Jinyoung peeked his head out curiously at the gates in front of him. The gates were made of plain red stone, dotted by straight black lines perfectly spaced out from each other. It was a bland door at best, but Jinyoung had a sinking feeling that it was deceptively simple. There was no guessing what lay beyond those doors, in both splendor and the messy net of relationships that surely were waiting for him as soon as he stepped inside. He sighed softly.
Grin and bear it, Park Jinyoung.
He looked over at Soyoung’s hand, hesitating as he wondered if he should take it or not. He didn’t want to look weaker than necessary in front of everyone; Jang Soyoung’s dominance was clear enough as it was. But the carriages they used in Yuan were different from the ones used in Goryeo; the ones in Yuan were lifted much higher than the ones he was used to, because they were pulled by horses rather than by people. It made things easier for the servants of course, but that also meant the distance from the carriage to the ground was much bigger than Jinyoung was used to. Jinyoung sighed, then took Soyoung’s hand before jumping to the ground below. Soyoung waved a hand at the doors, and soldiers quickly rushed to open up the brick red gates. Jinyoung’s eyes widened as he followed Soyoung into the lavish Yuan palace. The royal palace had to be at least double the size of the Goryeo palace, with structures spreading on his left and right as far as the eye could see. At the far end of the grand courtyard they had walked into, Jinyoung saw a long flight of stairs leading up to a glittering golden building. Above the long set of doors leading into the building, Jinyoung spotted three Chinese characters etched into a polished wooden plaque.
Harmony Hall.
It was the place where the emperor usually held audiences with his ministers in the morning. And before long, that was where Jinyoung would be sitting at Soyoung’s side every morning. Soyoung paused and let Jinyoung take in the sight of the Yuan palace.
“From now on, this will be your home.” She said, “I will have servants take you to your rooms.”
“My rooms?” Jinyoung asked, “But where are you going? Where exactly are my rooms?” Jang Soyoung paused midstep from where she had been walking away, and then turned to smile teasingly at him.
“Don’t worry.” She replied, “They are only temporary quarters. You will move into my quarters after our wedding, naturally.” Jinyoung felt his cheeks grow hot at the statement.
“That’s not what I was asking about!” He protested. Jang Soyoung took one look at the expression on his face and then laughed. Shaking her head, she turned back and continued on her way.
Jinyoung sighed, and turned to the small army of servants that had appeared by his side.
“Lead the way.” He said, and followed them off.
________________________________________________________________
The rooms that had been prepared for Jinyoung were large and elaborately decorated, far larger than what he had ever lived in at Goryeo.
“The Empress’s rooms are just across the courtyard in that direction.” A maid said helpfully, pointing out the door. Jinyoung sighed. At the moment, he could care less where her rooms were, but he appreciated the sentiment.
“Very well.” He said, “You are dismissed.”
The servants left him alone, and Jinyoung took to exploring his temporary rooms. It was so fascinating; all of a sudden, all the things that he had only ever seen in books were all in front of him. The soft and elaborate curtains that hung from the archways leading into each new part of the chambers, the tall four post bed that sat perfectly made on the far end of the room, the elegant porcelain cups that sat waiting for use on the small table by the bed. Jinyoung marveled at each of them in turn. He wasn’t sure how long he wandered around marveling at this new world he was to be living in, but he was drawn back to the present as he heard someone clear his throat. Turning sharply, Jinyoung felt his cheeks flush at being caught exploring the room like a child. His gaze fell on a young man standing behind him, gazing at Jinyoung curiously. The newcomer was a willowy youth dressed in long white robes that were belted at the waist, his clothes decorated with light silver thread that had been clearly hand-stitched to form a complicated array of patterns.  Although it was warm outside, Jinyoung spotted the edges of a fur lined collar at the top of his clothes that perfectly covered the young man’s neck. It was a deceptively simple outfit, but Jinyoung knew better than to think this was a regular person. The young man gave off an aura of grace and elegance, signaling his high status in the palace. Still, unlike many other nobles Jinyoung had met in his life, the young man had a warm welcoming smile on his face.
“You must be Park Jinyoung, the Fifth Prince of Goryeo.” The young man said, “My future brother-in-law.” Jinyoung paused for a moment as he tried to place who the young man was.
Ah.
Jang Eun-seong.
Jinyoung had long heard that the Empress had a younger twin brother that she doted on deeply. He had been born with a weak body, and so had been kept from practicing martial arts like his siblings during childhood. When the fight for the throne had broken out between the elder brothers, Royal Consort Hua had taken the twins and fled the palace out of fear for their safety. When the fighting had ended, Eun-seong was the only son left, and Soyoung was the eldest unmarried daughter. Because of Eun-seong’s weak body, Soyoung had instead been placed on the throne, thus resulting in the near impossible result that was a female ruler on the Mongol throne. Eun-seong, who had been taught medicinal arts since childhood, had instead become a royal physician, and the Empress’s unofficial personal physician.
“You are...Grand Prince Eun-seong?” He asked hesitantly. The young man’s face lit up, and he grinned as he bowed politely.
“Yes, I am Eun-seong.” He said cheerfully, “It is a pleasure to meet you, Brother-In-Law!” Jinyoung chuckled softly. The boy was Soyoung’s brother, but he was completely different from his sister. Although he looked every inch the prince he was, Eun-seong was less hardened from the daily political battles that his sister had been facing for years. He still had a slight boyish air to him behind the dignified princely look, and bright curious eyes that told Jinyoung he didn’t have to keep his guard up around him.
“You can call me Jinyoung.” He replied, patting a gentle hand on the boy’s shoulder. Eun-seong looked up, his eyes wide.
“No, I cannot do that.” He said, “That would be far too rude! Instead...may I call you ge?” Jinyoung hesitated as he turned over the unfamiliar word in his mind, then smiled as he realized what Eun-seong was asking about. The Mongols had long adopted the Chinese language; in their language, ge was the same as hyung in Goryeo.
“Of course.” He replied, “You can call me whatever you like.” Eun-seong beamed at Jinyoung’s response.
“I can see why my royal sister chose you!” He declared, “You’re so kind and observant. I’ve heard you are quite the scholar as well.” Jinyoung laughed and bowed politely at the comment.
“You are too kind, Your Highness.” He said, “I have just been a lover of books since childhood.” Eun-seong grinned and shook his head.
“Please call me Eun-seong.” He said, “We will soon be family after all.” Jinyoung could barely suppress a grimace at the words. The other young man was right; before long they would be one family, although Jinyoung still didn’t know how he was going to handle it.
“You are so different from your sister.” He said, steering the topic lightly away from marriage, “It is hard to believe you are siblings.” Eun-seong laughed softly at his comment.
“I have heard that many times in the past before.” He said, “My sister has been likened to a goddess of war, a strong ruler and strict ruler who punishes and rewards fairly. She is the complete opposite of the gentle and demure woman that most people expect to see, even in Mongolia.” A light cheeky grin lit up Eun-seong’s face as he looked around carefully and leaned closer to Jinyoung.
“But in reality, my sister has a gentle side to her too!” He whispered, “Not demure, but there’s times when she’s kind and warm too. She’s just really good at suppressing it around people. But as her brother, I see it all the time!” Jinyoung raised an eyebrow.
“Really?” He said, looking at the other young man skeptically. As far as he had seen, Jang Soyoung was anything but kind and warm. Eun-seong laughed at the expression on Jinyoung’s face.
“You’ll see in good time, ge.” He said, clapping a hand on Jinyoung’s shoulder, “There will be plenty of time for you to see that the strict ruler side of my sister is not all that lies in her.” Jinyoung laughed dryly.
“Yes, I do hope you’re right.” He replied.
________________________________________________________________
While Jinyoung was meeting his future brother-in-law, Soyoung was sitting in her library facing her ministers. The elder men were standing in four rows in front of her, with an aisle left in the middle for anyone who wished to step forward and address the empress. She had just announced her choice for prince consort to the gathered ministers, and from the looks on their faces, Soyoung could tell that they were less than thrilled.
“Your Majesty…” Finally, Minister Sou stepped forward, keeping his body half bowed respectfully, “If I may be frank?” Soyoung motioned for him to continue, although she already had an idea what he was going to say next. Minister Sou hesitated for a moment before continuing.
“Your Majesty...while we have all heard of the Fifth Prince’s intellect, I am worried whether he is a good match for you.” He said, “Fifth Prince Jinyoung is nothing like our Mongol men. He is more suited to be indoors, reading and writing as he wishes. Your Majesty’s husband should be a powerful player in the Goryeo court, and someone who can lead warriors at your side, should he not?” Soyoung saw many of the other court officials nodding in approval, and bit back a sigh.
Superficial fools. They only ever know to look at the things on the surface.
“Park Jinyoung is the second son of the former Queen of Goryeo.” She stated firmly, “He is by far one of the most favored princes in the entire court. With his position as my husband, there will certainly be the peace and support of both countries that we want. And besides, what I need is someone with his intellect to help me deal with the daily affairs of running the court. What is wrong with that? I do not need a warrior for a husband who only knows how to fight and do little else.” The ministers looked at each other briefly before Minister Han stepped forward.
“Your Majesty, you may approve of his intellect, but the Fifth Prince has spent his life either hidden behind books or writing works of poetry. He has little to no experience in court.” He stated, “If he comes to court and makes a fool of himself-”
“He will not.” Soyoung replied firmly, directly cutting the older man off, “It is precisely because he is a learned scholar that he would think of things differently from everyone else. I will not ask him to attend court every day, but when I do, I am certain he will do well. Whatever he does not understand, he will learn ahead of time.”
And it is precisely because he has spent so much time among the common people that he knows what they want best.
“But Your Majesty…” Minister Han said hesitantly, “What about your future heirs?” Soyoung gazed at the older man coldly for a long moment as she pondered over how to respond. It was clear what he was referring to; the descendants of Yuan were expected to be warriors, particularly the men. If Soyoung and Jinyoung had children, they would surely be expected to be strong fighters capable of leading the country to victory on the battlefield. Perhaps for a daughter it would be alright if she didn’t have a natural aptitude for martial arts, but for a boy, the expectations would be high.
“Your worry is that our children will all be scholarly and gentle rather than fierce warriors, and then there would be no heir who is suitable to hold tightly onto the Yuan throne.” She stated, raising an eyebrow. Minister Han gulped before bowing.
“Your Majesty, I simply wish for the best for our future rulers and descendants.” He replied. Soyoung crossed her arms and leveled a cold gaze on the older man, making him squirmy.
“The ability to fight will come from the child’s mother, and the intellect will come from the child’s father.” She stated, “It would be the perfect balance.”
“But Your Majesty-” Minister Han began again, then cut off as Soyoung slammed her hand against her desk.
“That’s enough!” She growled, “Or are you trying to tell me that you all, the revered ministers of the Yuan court, have the power to control which man is worthy to stand by my side and put a child in my womb?” The ministers’ soft murmurs fell silent, and they quickly fell to their knees.
“We do not dare to, Your Majesty!” They chorused together. Soyoung glared down at the elder men as she let her anger stew over them for a long moment. That was exactly what they wanted to control, of course. They wanted to put a man they thought worthy by her side, not one of her own choosing, and if one thing was to be sure, Soyoung knew it was the prince they chose would not be to her liking. They wanted a man that was strong, that could turn around and indirectly control her. But when she blatantly put it that way, no one would dare to say it out loud.
If you would like to make things difficult, then I will play this game with you all until the end.
Soyoung tapped a finger against her desk for a long moment before speaking.
“I chose the Fifth Prince after careful consideration and in front of the entire Goryeo court.” She stated firmly, “I will not send him back for reasons as ridiculous as the quality of children he would give me. That would be a slap to Goryeo’s face that you all know very well I will not give. And in any event, I am not choosing a man to marry simply for producing heirs.” Soyoung fixed her gaze slowly on each minister, challenging them to say more.
“I trust that I will not hear anymore of such talk.” She stated firmly.
“Your Majesty, we will listen to your wishes.” Soyoung was startled at the first voice to speak in affirmation of her decision, although she kept her face calm as she turned her gaze over to where her Uncle stood. Up until now, he had said nothing, either for or against her marriage to Park Jinyoung. And now, he was suddenly voicing his implicit affirmation for the Fifth Prince. One who didn’t know better might have thought the Grand Preceptor was on his niece’s side.
But Soyoung knew better than to come to that conclusion.
Jang Jaewon was a crafty and careful man, one who only acted after taking into account all the factors and weighing which would be to his greatest personal benefit. Instead of voicing his opposition against Jinyoung outright, it was clear he would be watching the future prince consort’s every move, calculating until the timing was just perfect to make his move. If Jinyoung proved to be a great asset to Soyoung, then he would get rid of him within a short period of time. If Jinyoung turned out to be as weak as the court ministers feared, then he would let the young prince live. After all, any shame would be on Soyoung and the reputation her reign left behind.
For now, Soyoung would play along.
She pressed a thin smile to her lips as she looked at her uncle.
“I thank you, Grand Preceptor, for your support.” Soyoung said. Her uncle smiled and bowed to her.
“I will always support Your Majesty.” He replied. Both niece and uncle smiled at each other, but Soyoung knew better than to believe him entirely. When her father was young, Royal Uncle Jaewon had been his greatest competitor for the throne. If Mongol law hadn’t allowed for a daughter to take the throne, Soyoung knew he would’ve snatched it for himself long before she had been found and returned to the palace. Ever since she had taken the throne, Soyoung knew that more than one of many incidents that had occurred had been instigated by her uncle. But in the end, he always had a perfect scapegoat to escape taking the blame for the matter, and her attention had always been pulled to solidifying her grip on the throne and stabilizing the Yuan borders, leaving little time to push the matters further. In the days after her wedding, Soyoung knew she had to keep a close eye on her uncle, just like how he would be keeping a close eye on Jinyoung.
The other ministers, seeing that the de facto second most powerful person in the country had seemingly acquiesced to the marriage, dipped their heads and said nothing more. Sensing that the conversation had temporarily come to a close, Soyoung rose to her feet.
“You are all dismissed.” She said firmly. Then, without waiting for another word more from her ministers, Soyoung strode out from the royal library and into the bright welcoming sunlight.
________________________________________________________________
In the days following Jinyoung’s arrival in Yuan, he rarely got the chance to see Soyoung, save for the few times she came to check on him and see what he was doing. She was always busy catching up on the work she had set aside while visiting Yuan or meeting with her ministers. Not that he minded; he had no idea what to make of his future wife, and it was easier for him to acclimate to being in Yuan without having her around him at all times. He spent most of his time in the massive Yuan library, spending hours pouring over whatever books he could find to learn as much as he could about the country he was about to marry into. For the rest of the time, he divided the time among the many court officials that had begun inviting him to their homes for a visit. Jinyoung had originally been against the idea; he preferred to do as he wanted, rather than smile and put on an act before different court ministers like what Crown Prince Jaebeom had to do on a daily basis. In the end, it was Eun-seong who talked him into accepting the invitations. Perhaps he wouldn’t like it, the Yuan prince had said, but there would be plenty more of such situations in the future. It was better to get used to it early on rather than push it off until later. And besides, it was part of Jinyoung’s duty as Soyoung’s future husband to impress as many court officials as possible, so as to keep their complaining mouths silent.
And so, Jinyoung went and visited each minister that invited him.
It was difficult at first, for sure. Jinyoug found the whole matter rather awkward; the ministers were overly polite to him, but at the same time he could tell that his every move was being judged. Over time though, Jinyoung began learning how to charm them with his knowledge and stories of Goryeo, and his opinions about the old classics. Before long, news was spreading throughout the capital that the Empress had picked a prince consort that was both kind and well-taught, a person that you could hold hours of conversation with without even noticing.
Then, two weeks before the auspicious date picked for the wedding, Soyoung gave orders to Jinyoung’s servants to dress him in casual clothes and meet her at the palace’s front gates. When he arrived, Jinyoung was surprised to find the Empress dressed in casual clothing men’s clothing. A small smile turned up the corner of her lips as she saw him approach.
“Not bad.” Soyoung commented, “The clothes I chose fit you well.” Jinyoung squirmed slightly as he tugged at the sleeves of the Yuan attire he had been dressed in. Soyoung had chosen an outfit made of deep purple fabric trimmed with simple gold designs. The inner shirt was made of deep blue fabric, creating an overall image of elegance but short of royal extravagance. Unlike the broad sweeping sleeves of casual Goryeo attire, the sleeves clasped loosely around Jinyoung’s wrists, causing him to tug at them uncomfortably. Soyoung reached out and lightly pulled his right hand away from where it was tugging at the left cuff.
“You are not used to it.” She noted. Jinyoung sighed softly.
“It is my first time wearing Yuan clothing. Would you be used to Goryeo clothing, if you were suddenly ordered to switch?” He replied. Soyoung gazed at him for a long moment, and Jinyoung wondered if he had said too much. Then, she smiled faintly and nodded in agreement.
“Fair point.” She replied, “Come on, let’s go.” Jinyoung looked at her curiously as she turned to go.
“Where are we going?” He asked. Jang Soyoung turned and beckoned to him.
“We’re going to the marketplace.” She replied.
__________________________________________________________________________
The marketplace was as teeming with people as the day Jinyoung had arrived in Yuan, the loud sounds of sellers calling out their wares mingling in the air with the scents of fresh food being cooked. Jinyoung’s gaze roamed around the busy streets excitedly, taking in the lively sights. He had often passed by the marketplace on the way to visit various ministers, but had been unable to properly take in the sights from the carriage he traveled in. Soyoung strode calmly along the streets as if she had been there a million times, stopping here and there to buy a snack or chat with the stallkeepers. Jinyoung watched as she leaned in to speak with a waiter at a little tea shop, chuckling softly before she handed the  man a couple coins.
“What are you talking to them about?” He asked curiously, “You’ve been doing that all day.” Soyoung smiled mysteriously as she sipped on a cup of tea.
“Obtaining news.” She replied simply, “The Second Young Master of the Lin family has been frequenting the brothels again.” Jinyoung frowned in confusion.
“Why does that matter to you?” He replied. Soyoung laughed softly and shook her head.
“The Lin family is one of the most powerful families in the nation.” She replied, “Their second son is a known womanizer, unlike the far more stable eldest son. He is always creating trouble around the city, throwing out his family’s status as a shield if anything goes wrong. But if something does go wrong, it would be a shame on the family and create trouble in court.” Jinyoung thought for a long moment as he caught onto what the Empress was saying.
“Then...before something goes terribly wrong, you receive news of it and step in before it becomes public knowledge and matters spiral out of control?” He guessed. Soyoung smiled and nodded.
“Or prevent something bad from happening in the first place.” She added, “As expected, you caught on quickly, Park Jinyoung.” Jinyoung’s heart skipped a beat at her praise.
“Then...surely the antics of a rich second young master are certainly not all you keep an eye on.” He said. Soyoung shook her head.
“Of course not.” She replied, “Whichever minister or his family has been acting unusually lately, which merchant has been doing business in matters he usually never touches, even small things like which nobleman has been mistreating his wife...those matters are what reaches the common people first. And in the end, I hear of it.” Jinyoung stared at her in amazement.
“How many eyes and ears do you have in the city?” He asked. Soyoung smiled wryly.
“I set up an information network soon after I took the throne.” She replied, “It was the only way to suppress any rebels and solidify my hold on the throne. In the end, I made use of it to maintain peace in the nation. If the people have done nothing against their conscience, there is nothing to worry about. But if they have, they will receive the proper treatment they deserve.”
“Why are you telling me all of this?” Jinyoung asked curiously. Soyoung smiled slightly.
“You are the man who will be my husband.” She responded, “I hope you can make good use of this information network as well. Once every two months, I come outside and see what information I can gather, and make sure the capital is doing well. You would be surprised what things the court officials will try to hide from me.” Jinyoung raised an eyebrow.
Incredible.
That was all he could think of to describe the woman sitting next to him. She was just a woman, but at the same time, she was no ordinary woman. Her hold on the throne, and the tactics she had successfully used, had worked far better than many other men who had tried the same thing. It was no wonder the country was doing so well. The waiter reappeared and placed a dish on the table in front of them.
“Please enjoy.” He said before disappearing again. Jinyoung peered curiously at the dish in front of him. The shape resembled the pancake sweets that he had eaten in Goryeo, but this was slightly flatter and covered on the top with a brown colored sauce with something else sprinkled on top.
“What’s this?” He asked, looking at Soyoung curiously. She smiled and pushed the dish towards him.
“This is called gambir.” She replied, “It is a pancake sweet made with butter and sugar and covered with a sweet sauce. I thought you’d like it.” Jinyoung poked at the stack of pancakes in front of him cautiously before picking one up and biting into it. His eyes widened as the sweet coated the inside of his mouth, the soft crunch of nuts adding to the pancake’s chewy texture.
Delicious!
Soyoung laughed softly at the look on his face.
“I knew you’d like it.” She said, “This is your reward for learning well during these past few weeks. I heard all about your visits with the court ministers.” Jinyoung pouted slightly at the comment.
“I am not a puppy.” He grumbled, but continued nibbling on the sweet anyway. Soyoung laughed again in amusement, but her smile faded away quickly as she saw someone approach Hyojun, who had been following them closely during the course of their trip. The newcomer whispered something to Hyojun, and Jinyoung frowned as he saw Hyojun’s expression darken.
“What is it?” Soyoung asked as the man left. Hyojun hesitated for a moment before responding.
“We must return to the palace immediately.” He said, “Minister Han has been killed.” Soyoung’s eyes widened.
“What did you just say?” She demanded. Hyojun nodded solemnly.
“That’s not all.” He said, “Prince Jinyoung has been named the primary suspect.”

Hello hello!!!! Mark+pasta hehe
inspired by me waiting in line for my favorite london pasta place... minus the fight and minus mark :(
Cracking your knuckles, you looked at the time on your phone.
How had only 15 minutes passed since the last time you checked?
Maybe it had been a foolish idea to wait in line during your lunch break to attempt to get a table for one of the most popular pasta places in town, but now it was too late and you had committed.
Luckily you had the opportunity to take a rather longer lunch break today, so you weren’t too concerned about time. However, you were concerned with the loud noises coming from your stomach.
“I know dude, it was ridiculous!”
The only other thing you were concerned with was the loud guy behind you. When you were hungry, you became a lot more irritable and the man’s phone call which seemed to have lasted 15 minutes was getting on your last nerve.
“I’m not sure... But I’m sure you can make it before I get my table.”
At this, you find yourself even more annoyed and turn around quickly to be met with gaze for the first time.
He was surprisingly... not annoying looking.
“You know there’s other people behind you, right? Who have been waiting for a long time... Your friend can’t just come and cut the line.”
The man looks at you confused, his phone still pressed to his ear, “hey man I think I’m gonna have to call you back...” the person on the other side of the phone says something and the man sighs, “yeah I’ll explain later... I think I’m about to get into a fight in this pasta line... for some reason?”
With a final goodbye, he hangs up the phone and looks at you dumbfounded, “uh what’s the issue?”
“Well...” you paused waiting for him to say his name.
“Mark.”
“Well Mark, you see I overheard your little conversation - actually scratch that, it wasn’t little at all, considering the fact that it’s lasted over 15 minutes - and you can’t just let your friend cut in line when we’ve all been waiting here.”
Mark massaged his temples and shut his eyes tightly, truly trying to understand what the problem is. The last thing he thought would happen today was getting into an argument with an attractive woman over a queue for an Italian restaurant. He hadn’t even worn his nice oversized t-shirt.
“Why does that matter to you? You’re in front of me. It’s not like if he did cut, it would change your place in line.”
“This has nothing to do with me, it has to do with the overall injustice when it comes to line etiquette. I’m a lawyer you know.”
His eyes widen, “so what? You’re going to sue me over the hypothetical of my friend cutting in line?”
You shrugged your shoulders in nonchalance, “no, but I’m just saying I know injustice when I see it.”
Mark felt like he was in a fever dream, what were you talking about? “Listen...” he began, but he paused clearing his throat based on the way you were looking at him. You wore an expression that said “do not try to mansplain anything to me” and he shifted his tone accordingly, “I wasn’t even talking to my friend about cutting in line. He wanted to drop off something I left at his house.”
You feel your cheeks heat up in embarrassment, “oh...”
Just as Mark’s about to say something else, the hostess comes out the door of the restaurant to the front of the line.
“I have a table open for a pair. Any pairs?”
The group of four in front of you looks back at you and Mark, the hostess following suit, “Two?”
You’re about to shake your head and tell the hostess you’re just a table for one at the counter, but you’re surprised to feel Mark grab your wrist from behind you.
“Yeah we’re a pair.”
The hostess nods her head and waves her hand for the two of you to follow her inside, “this way please.”
You looked at Mark with wide eyes and he smiled, “after accusing me of injustice, I think you owe me a lunch.”

mr. perfect (drabble)
pairing: markjin (mark x jinyoung)
genre: fluff
summary: mornings are the sweetest time of the day
a/n:  my first piece of writing since 2016 lmao pls i’m trying to get back into it T__T
jackson was their number one fan, reacting with the laughing emojis whenever jinyoung sends a picture of mark, clueless and shirtless with tons of eggplant and drip emojis around him.
all around flower boy, park jinyoung. mr. reliable and perfect. here he was, soft snores coming from the younger, limbs entangled over mark’s small frame. jinyoung slept over after a full day’s worth of schedules and mark couldn’t be any happier. it’s been a while since he was able to spend any private time alone with him. jinyoung’s been busy with juggling his new drama and promotions that mark felt like he was about to be left behind. if it weren’t for milo at his side, he would have gone crazy. He still wonders how someone as perfect as park jinyoung can be with a quiet simple guy like mark tuan.
what does jinyoung see in me? why didn’t he accept jackson’s advances? he really didn’t know what it was. jackson and jinyoung were almost inseparable on screen, but away from all the lights and cameras, he belonged to mark. The other members were fully aware of their relationship too. even youngjae teased them from time to time. it was pretty new, but nothing out of the ordinary. in between takes or makeup touches, the flirting was quite subtle. From the small pecks on the cheek to the hugs around the waist. the staff probably thought it was just fanservice to be caught on camera, but the others knew it was something more than that whenever they send couple selcas to the groupchat. jackson was their number one fan, reacting with the laughing emojis whenever jinyoung sends a picture of mark, clueless and shirtless with tons of eggplant and drip emojis around him.
mark decided to send one of jinyoung sleeping, his plump lips parted slightly and a sliver of dried drool peering from the side of his cheek. surely, yugyeom would reply with an ew gross hyung it’s too early in the morning for that or a i was wondering why you guys didn’t join us last night ;) from bambam. even though the relationship seemed pretty new, it still felt like it’s been months that they were cuddling each other, holding hands nonchalantly, and whispering sweet compliments to each other’s ears. mark doesn’t think they’re in the honeymoon phase anymore, but he can’t help but feel warm and radiant with the boy in his embrace.
“good morning sunshine” jinyoung cooed. His eyes still slightly closed, adjusting to the bright morning light. a shy smile grew on mark’s face as he placed a soft kiss on jinyoung’s forehead.
“you got a little something on your face, handsome.” mark licked his finger and wiped away the dried drool of jinyoung’s cheek. a couple of buzzes went off and jinyoung lazily searched for his phone. mark continued caressing strands of his hair when jinyoung’s eyes shot up at him.
“yah! whenever I send pictures of you, at least you look good!”
all Mark could do was let out a high-pitched chuckle. he was spot on with bambam’s comment with an added ugh you guys are too cute brb throwing up from jackson. jinyoung pinched his cheeks in retaliation. this is what mark enjoyed the most. seeing the perfect jinyoung looking flustered, upper lip and chin full of stubble, with pieces of dried drool still stuck to his face.

You're sick
Tumblr media
The number you have dialed is not in service. Please call again later.
What the actual fuck? Jackson took another puff of his cigarette before reaching for his drink again. She blocked me? She fucking blocked me?! He took another sip of the brown liquor, not even feeling the burn in this throat anymore. The only thing he felt was anger. His eyes were glued to the screen, still unable to process what has happened. How could you block me? I’m Jackson Wang from China for fuck’s sake. He took another long sip sadly accepting the fact that even his fame couldn’t guarantee him a shot at love.
You’re sick. Those were your final words to him. He replayed you saying that hundreds of times. You had that painful look in your reddened eyes, tears straining your flushed cheeks, breath stuck in your throat as you let go of him. Jackson spit out the nastiest things as his ego was taking a blow right there. He watched you pack your stuff and leave his apartment, leaving him for good.
At least you didn’t cheat on him. He smirked devilishly thinking that this was some kind of progress since the girl before you fooled him for weeks on end. But if he was honest with himself it didn’t feel like progress at all. It felt like heartbreak, like suffering, like a never-ending loneliness that has crept into his bones. At this point in his life those feelings felt like a part of him. You were right, he thought to himself, I am sick.
Jackson poured himself another glass as he was remembering the first few weeks he shared with you. He liked the excitement of becoming yours - being glued to his phone eagerly anticipating your texts became normal, having someone to share the highs and lows of his days with felt so natural and you giving him all of your attention made him feel so important.
He adored the passion you elicited in him – staying up most nights to explore your body thrilled him, being the one fucking you brainless turned him on endlessly and cuddling you to sleep while stealing sweet kisses made him domestic.
He loved forming a true connection with you - opening up about his struggles was easy since you’ve always been so empathetic, holding you in his arms under the stars while planning the future seemed logical and falling in love was inevitable, especially for someone as love-addicted as Jackson.
This sweet feeling of love took over his whole being which made him noticeably happier. Jackson finally felt like he was appreciated for who he was as a man and not for being an artist. He didn’t even care that he had to slow down his career, so that he could spend more time with you. He didn’t care about music sales, brand deals or future career options – all he cared about was you.
Until he didn’t.
His mind got pestered with doubts, anxiety clouding his every thought. What if this was too good to be true? What if you left him in the end? What if relationships weren’t just his thing? Could he really neglect his career for you? After all, his career would never wake up and abandon him one day…
Jackson felt himself slipping into old patterns. This was no longer the confident man that you fell for but a coward that shied away from love and gave into fear. Unable to stop his inner demons, he gave into them, turning into a self-sabotaging monster once again. Better hurting you than getting hurt himself, right?
He gulped down the remains of the liquor and let out a desperate sigh. Why did I do this? Why am I so stupid? He ran his hand through his blonde hair, tugging on it as if self-harm would ease his self-inflected pain. He thought about the downfall of your relationship: Joyful calls turned into silence, sweet acts of love turned into egocentric ignorance and soulful connection turned into manipulation. This was no longer a blooming relationship; this was him having his way with you. He controlled you by giving you love if he needed it and tossed you aside if you came too close to him. Jackson often wondered how long you’d play this game with him, how much it took to break you. Turns out that fucking his dancer in front of you did the trick. Crying and arguing got replaced with your silence – this was you being done with him. This was him being left with his sickness – once again.

A Wolf For Christmas
Jinyoung wolf AU
Jinyoung is used to funny smells. As a werewolf, it's common for him to pick up on strong scents throughout the day. But this—this is overpowering. It surrounds him, leaving him no room to breathe anything else. He has to leave his spot in the back aisle and see just what is producing this harassing smell. He frowns, realizing it's a little girl. The child is squatting in the kid's area of his section of the store, reading the Little Red Riding Hood all by herself.
"Are you supposed to be alone?" he questions, trying to be firm but not scare her.
The little girl looks guilty as she stares up at him. "No," she sighs in defeat. "Please don't call my mom!" she shouts at him, pouting extra hard to help her case.
Jinyoung smiles to himself. Any other day and he would have caved. This was the book section of the store and he was definitely adamant about children needing to read more, but that scent was driving him crazy. It's not coming from her, just lingering around her, so he has to meet the parents of whoever this kid is.
"Sorry," he tells her, extending his hand out to help her to her feet. "You can't just wander around alone."
She takes his hand, but sends him a glare. He admired how adorably fierce she was. "Don't look so gloomy," he counters. "if your mom allows it, you can stay here." Her face lights up at his words and she practically drags him in the correct direction.
**
Jinyoung should have expected to be brought to women's clothing. At least once every few hours someone loses their child from not paying attention. While the department store wasn't known for much, they did have a large selection of trendy clothes they were known for carrying.
Upon entering the section, he hears his shift manager scolding someone in the distance. "Mom!" the little girl shouts as she drops Jinyoung's hand. His eyes widen when he realizes it's her mom who's being scolded. Jaebum, looks annoyed, but leaves without saying another word.
The smell stops him in his tracks. It's sweet, but not sickly so. It's soft and teasing, even at full force. He's drawn back to reality when the little girl is pointing at him, dragging her mother his way.
"I'm so sorry," the mother immediately apologizes. "I only had my back to her for a second!"
He shakes his head—both to clear his mind and dismiss her apology. "It's fine," he gets out, voice shaking. "I know how sneaky little ones sometimes get."
She snorts. "Sometimes?"
Jinyoung lets out a nervous laugh, not sure how to follow. His eyes instead take in her form, it's then he notices she's dressed in the required uniform. "You work here?"
She nods, "Women's wear."
It all makes sense then. While working, of course she would easily lose her kid. He wants to question further, but if Jaebum had no problem with her bringing her kid to work, he wouldn't question it.
For now, his mind is telling him to get away. He still had to finish his shift, it wouldn't go well if he continued to linger around in this scent. Distracted didn't quite cover how he felt. He gives her a little nod before turning on his heel.
"Wait!"
Startled by her sudden shout, he whips around.
"You forgot this book," she tells him, pulling the book out her daughter's hand, despite the fight she put up. Just from that action alone he knew the little girl would not be visiting him again.
He puts up a hand to stop her. "She can keep it," he tells her.
The mother shakes her head, and bits her lip, hesitating. "I can't afford it."
Jinyoung solemnly nods. "It's on me."
** "Go on break," Jaebum barks at him as he's passing through. Jinyoung sighs, Jaebum's ever the cold leader, but he doesn't need to be told twice.
Grabbing his lunch from the staff lounge, he heads outside to find a quiet spot to eat. He doesn't get very far when he catches that scent again. He hates how his eyes snap to the direction of the mother and daughter from earlier with such ease. Figuring he can't escape, he might as well join them.
"Hello again," he greets them as he plops down on the bench opposite them.
"Hi!" the daughter easily greets him, but the mom, rightfully so, looks at him suspiciously. After, he assumed, she'd determined he was okay, she says hello back.
He sees they are eating as well, though the daughter still seems absorbed in the book. "Enjoying your book?" he questions.
The mother blushes and can't quite look him in the eye. "Thank you for that," she admits. "and yes, she's obsessed with this story."
"Nothing wrong with that." The wolf in him even feels proud.
She stopped mid-motion to give him a look that says 'what’s wrong with you'. "It's too morbid for her age."
Jinyoung shoots her a skeptical look back. "Morbid? Little Red Riding Hood gets saved in the end."
The mother just shakes her head like it's a lost cause trying to further talk to him. "But it talks about the wolf eating everyone."
Jinyoung rolls his eyes now. It's s child's book, not like they go into detail. "Should I have given her The Three Little Pigs instead?" he sarcastically replies.
Despite having just taken a bite the mom says, "Yes!" and nods ever vigorously.
Finally it's the daughter's turn to voice her opinion. "Mom, you're so boring."
** As he's waiting for the start of his shift, Jinyoung brightens at the sight of Hyunjin and Hyemi walking in (the mother and daughter, he totally asked for their names at lunch yesterday). Hyemi is talking a mile a minute and he's proud to hear she's still on the subject of wolves. Hyunjin just rolls her eyes and puts a finger to her lip. Hyemi pouts and closes her mouth, but once she spots him, she instantly waves in his direction. Just as he's returning the gesture, Hyunjin sees him as well and nods.
Jaebum walks in a few minutes before the start of the hour and clears his throat, catching every employee's attention. "As you all know," he starts, pointing to a giant tree in the back of the room. "This time of year we host our annual Staff Secret Santa. I've randomly placed everyone's name on the tree, please pick one and only one. If you get yourself, just put it back and grab another." He explains as a low buzz erupts around the room. "I trust that I don't have to babysit you on this, right? Grab one and let's go to work." He finishes as he exits the staff break room.
Jinyoung groans, he hears the feeling is mutual as he glances over to Hyunjin. Hyemi is jumping up and down, excited at the word Santa, but clearly Hyunjin is not. "Mom, what's a Secret Santa?" she eagerly questions.
"Shh, I'll explain later," Hyunjin replies as she slips in line to grab her pick.
Jinyoung slips in behind her and Hyemi grins back at him.
"Excited?" he teases, clearly Hyemi seems like she'll burst any minute from excitement.
"Please don't encourage her," Hyunjin scolds.
Jinyoung can't help himself. "Your daughter's right, you are boring."
Hyunjin's jaw drops open. Before she can retaliate, Jinyoung points ahead. "Your turn." She huffs as Hyemi giggles and grabs a name before she can.
"Who's—" Hyunjin is quick to cover her mouth. "It's a secret," she grits out.
Jinyoung ignores them and picks one as well. His eyes light up and he can't believe his luck. He got Hyunjin. He secretly grins to himself, about to pocket his pick when Hyunjin steals it out of his hand.
"Oh thank god you got me," she tells him, crumbling up the little piece of paper with her name on it. He's about to question her when she continues. "Please do not buy me anything. We don't celebrate Christmas." Having said what she needed to, she turns on her heel and heads off in the direction of her department.
** Jinyoung can feel his wolf flaring up at his anger. Since Hyunjin had snapped at him, he'd been uncontrollably angry. Jaebum even sensed it and told him to take a five minute break to cool off. Of course, the break didn't help.
Honestly, he's not sure why he's so mad. Was it because she ordered him not to? That seemed a little silly, but he didn't want to let it go. Hyunjin and her daughter were very interesting to him, he was certain it would be fun shopping for them. He decides right then and there to ignore her request.
Just as he's pondering what would be a good gift, he picks up Hyunjin's scent heading his way. He feels a little bummed when he sees it's just Hyemi. She looks guilty as she makes her way to him.
"Hello," Jinyoung puts on his best smile and greets her anyway.
Hyemi mumbles a hello back and awkwardly stands with him. For someone who's always so bubbly, Jinyoung knows something is wrong with her.
"You OK?" he questions, squatting down to her eye level.
Hyemi doesn't say anything, just throws herself at him for a hug. Jinyoung is surprised by the action but slowly returns it. Hyemi beams up at him as she pulls away.
"Mom's mad at me. She said I should leave you alone."
Ah, the weird behavior makes sense. Hyunjin must have scolded her. He feels a sting of hurt at the fact that she'd ordered her daughter to do such a thing. Jinyoung had never done anything to warrant such a reaction. "I'm sure she's not mad at you, she's just trying to protect you," he reasons.
She glares at the bookcase in front of them and he can't help the laugh that escapes him. "It's not funny!" she huffs at him.
He puts up his hands in surrender. "Sorry." He gets serious as he tells her, "Tell your mom, I said you and her are not a bother, OK?"
Hyemi smiles at his words and runs off back to tell her mom the good news.
** Hyemi took his word seriously and immediately came back after telling her mom. Jinyoung smiled and told her to read whatever she liked. Of course she went straight for The Little Red Riding Hood again.
"Do you like wolves?" she questioned as she turned a page.
Jinyoung had to fight back the grin. He cleared his throat to answer seriously. "Yes, I do."
Hyemi's head snapped up at his words and she shut the book in front of her. "They're so pretty. And fast. And scary. And I want one!"
He smiled fondly at her words. Scary, but still wanted one as a pet? She was certainly braver than most people.
"I wish there were more wolf books," she commented, looking gloomily down at the book in her lap.
Jinyoung understood that. Their selection wasn't the best, just filled with the classics or what was currently popular. Even their children's section was lacking. An idea hits him then. "Would you like to hear a story?"
Her whole being lights up at his suggestion. "Yes!"
"OK," he tells her as he takes a seat down on the floor beside her. "There once was a beautiful little girl, just like you," he taps her nose and she giggles, already enthralled by his story. "She lived in the countryside with her mother and sister. The little girl's health was very bad and she was sick. One day she discovers a wild wolf boy living in the woods surrounding her home."
Suddenly Hyemi frowns. "Hey, I've seen that movie!"
He gets flustered at being caught. Of course she would have seen a movie like that. He stares at her little angry face, trying to think of something else.
"So you like werewolves too?" he questioned.
"Any wolf!" she eagerly replied.
"OK, I know just the story."
** "There was a little werewolf boy—" he caught himself before blurting out his own name. "Nyeongie. Nyeongie lived in the forest with his mother and father. Every day he would run around and play with all the other animals in the woods. They were his only friends since he didn't know anyone else.
One day it was time for him to return home for dinner, but he got lost. Despite being very good at smelling, he couldn't pick up the scent of his home. Instead he stumbled upon some humans. Scared, he tried to run from them and hurt his leg."
"Poor baby," Hyemi interrupted, which made him smile.
"It was OK though, these humans didn't hurt him. It turned out they were werewolves just like him. And they had two sons. The younger one was Bummie. And the other one, Lark."
"Lark?" Hyemi questioned.
"They wanted to give him a unique name."
"Ah! OK! Finish!"
"They took him in for a few days as his leg healed. Werewolves heal very quick, you know?" She nodded at his question. "Once he was all better, they helped him return home. What waited for him was not what he expected. Both his parents had been murdered. Lark and Bummie's parents helped him properly bury his family, but he was devastated. Now he had no one."
He abruptly stopped his story when Hyemi burst into tears.
"I didn't mean to make you cry." He tried consoling her. It wasn't working so he pulled her into his lap to rub her back. This worked and she quickly stopped sobbing. "All better?" he asked. "I have to finish my story, it's not all sad," he teased.
"OK," Hyemi said as she wiped one last tear away.
"He thought he had no one," Jinyoung clarified this time. "But in reality he had made really good friends with Lark and Bummie. Without any hesitation, Lark and Bummie's parents took him in and accepted him as their own son."
Hyemi comments a mile a minute, but he doesn't hear it. Instead his brain locks in on the scent heading his way. He makes eye contact with Hyunjin once she's in sight and, boy, does she look unhappy.
"Hello?" Hyemi waves a tiny hand in his face to catch his attention.
"Huh?" he questions, focusing back on her. He'd completely missed everything she'd said.
"I said—"
"Wait," he cuts her off. "Your mother doesn't look too happy."
Hyemi freezes at his words and guiltily waves at Hyunjin. "Gotta go," she tells him as she runs off.
He shakes his head, but a smile appears on his face and he gets off the floor. Never was there a dull moment with those two.
"Should you be telling her your own story?"
Jinyoung almost jumped out of his skin. He didn't know how Jaebum managed to sneak up on him like that. He glares at the manager as he calms his heart.
"It's fine. She'll never know that it's real."
** "Mom's mad at me again."
Jinyoung grins. He has a feeling it's because she keeps sneaking off to him, begging to hear more about Nyeongie. It's actually quite therapeutic telling her his life story. He didn't realize how lonely he felt only talking with Jaebum and Mark.
"She's not mad at you, she just worries a lot about you. You gotta be a good girl and listen to everything she says, OK?"
Hyemi nods, "OK!" she pauses, quietly thinking to herself. "I wish dad would help mommy. I hate him!"
Jinyoung is intrigued by this new piece of information. He didn't realize she had a dad. Of course she had one, but this was the first time he was hearing about him. "You don't mean that," he defends.
"I do!" she doesn't budge.
"He's doing his best."
Hyemi gives him the coldest look he's ever seen a little kid give. "Mom says something happened and he can't be with us but I just think he doesn't love us." With her last words, she stands up and runs off.
Jinyoung feels bad, he hit a sore spot without meaning to.
Jaebum's legs come into view and he stops staring after Hyemi to look up at him.
"You're get weirder and weirder by the day," Jaebum tells him.
He rolls his eyes, "You just have bad timing."
"Sure, lover boy," Jaebum teases and pats him on the head. "Go on break," he orders and leaves him still sitting there.
** At break, despite seeing Hyunjin is still visibly upset at him, he plops down at the table again. "Hey," he greets and gets out his lunch.
Hyunjin is eating her lunch as well, but Hyemi is adorably crawling around on all fours, howling at the sky. She barks at Jinyoung in what he assumes is a greeting. He waves before turning back to Hyunjin, there's a faint trace of pink lining her cheeks and he can't help but think it's cute that she's letting Hyemi be.
Hyunjin grabs his attention when she lets out a sigh. "Look," she starts, finally meeting his eyes. "I'm sorry about snapping at you earlier," she admits. "I do mean what I said though."
Jinyoung nods at her explanation, trying to play it cool. "Rules are rules though."
Her eyes narrow at him now. "We can just pretend, yeah?"
"No. At least let me get her a gift instead?"
Hyunjin looks conflicted at this, but she stays firm. "No," she answers. "I know it seems absurd, but money's tight right now and I just don't want her expecting gifts from now on."
The guilty look on his face crushes his heart. "Then you should let me, I'll give her something every year."
Hyunjin gives him a look that says he can't be serious. He hopes the look he's giving back says he is. Because he would.
With a shake of her head, she finally breaks eye contact and crosses her arms to rest her head on. Tiredly, she silently continues to watch Hyemi run around. Jinyoung gets the hint and drops the subject.
He's just taken his last bite, when Hyunjin turns to him. "I hope you don't think I'm a bad mother for not wanting to celebrate Christmas."
He's surprised she's addressing him and is not quite sure how to respond. "No, of course not." he finally gets out. "Just confused is all."
"I want to, you know?" she turns back to looking at Hyemi. "She deserves it, she's the world's sweetest girl."
That he would agree with, she was all smiles and sunshine all the time. "I don't mean to intrude, but she mentioned her dad," he stops cold when he sees Hyunjin's shocked reaction.
Her eyes suddenly get teary, but Hyunjin blinks them away before they can form. "He's not in the picture. I was waiting for her to get older to explain to her. I think she's still too young to understand."
Jinyoung nods.
"Someone at school told her that her father abandoned her the other day." Her eyes got teary again as she looked over at Hyemi. "Why do people have to be so cruel?"
Jinyoung doesn't get the chance to reply as Hyemi runs over. She's out of breath, but even he knows she's ready to eat. Hyunjin is quick to get out food for her and Hyemi silently eats beside Jinyoung, only looking back and forth between them. Deciding it's OK to speak, Hyemi starts telling them what she was doing.
Jinyoung got so engrossed in listening and replying to Hyemi that when he glanced over at Hyunjin, he realized she fell asleep. He grins to himself, thinking how cute she looked when Hyemi also noticed. She looked shocked and opened her mouth to wake her but Jinyoung put his index finger up to his lips. "Your mom's really tired, we should let her rest for a few minutes, OK?" Hyemi eagerly nods at this and smiles at him as she continues eating.
Jinyoung takes this moment to unapologetically observe Hyunjin. Without a scowl on her face, he notices she's actually quite pretty. Some of her hair had fallen across her face, and he stops himself, arm already stretched out to move it out of the way. Hyemi is giving him a weird look as well and he flushes. Way to look like a creeper, he scolds himself. Awkwardly, he coughs and glances at his watch. Realizing it's time to go, he lets out a sigh and reaches out to wake Hyunjin.
"Hey sleeping beauty, time to go back to work."
** As he's clocking in the next day, Hyemi comes bounding over, a blushing Hyunjin following loosely behind. Hyemi instantly gives him a single cookie in a ziplock bag.
"We made cookies!" she tells him, proudly displaying her work for him to see. "This is for you."
"Cookies?" he questions, taking the bag in his hand. "But this is only one?"
Hyunjin gives Hyemi a look but explains, "I told her to bring you more, but she wanted to eat most of them. Sorry."
He grins, feeling weirdly special even with only one cookie. "Thank you," he tells the both of them. "Even if it's only one, I'll still enjoy it."
The first person he notices is Mark. Mark's standing off to the side of the room, grinning at him. He rolls his eyes in return, positive that he was going to hear a teasing from the other male once work was over, but he didn't care. Now when he notices all the weird looks from the rest of the staff, that's when he gets a bit shy.
He tucks the cookie safely away in his pocket, deciding to eat it once he got to his section.
** After giving him the cookie, he's sure Hyemi will pop by like she normally does. So when she doesn't, he gets a little concerned. He figures Hyunjin made her stay put, as already this morning might have been too much. What he doesn't expect is to see Mark stalking after Hyemi and her running right at him. She clamps onto his right leg as she hides behind him.
"Save me!" she shouts at him, ducking behind him as Mark comes to a stop.
Mark scowls at him as he points at Hyemi. "Tell your girlfriend's kid to give that back! You know Jaebum is gonna kill me if he sees her with it."
He's shocked, only registering the word 'girlfriend'. "What?"
"Mark, what are you doing over here?" Jaebum scares the both of them in his usual fashion, appearing without notice. Honestly, it doesn't surprise him why Jaebum had instantly been promoted to manager when all three of them were hired at the same time. As the leader of the pack, he was too good at everything.
"Going back to work," Mark says, turning on his heel.
Jaebum just shakes his head, ignores Hyemi's odd position and keeps going. Seeing the coast is clear, Hyemi runs off as well.
It makes sense when she returns a few minutes later. Hyunjin is holding Hyemi's hand and she has the biggest pout on her face. In her other arm is a little grey wolf, he'd missed the first time she was over here. Hyunjin must be mistaken, thinking he was the one to give it to her.
"But mom—" Hyemi starts to object, only to receive a warning look from Hyunjin. "OK," she deflates as she hands the wolf over to Jinyoung.
He accepts, now understanding what Mark was talking about. Great with kids, he was put in charge of the toy section.
"Boy, I'm popular today," he tells the little wolf as he heads over to return the guy to his rightful place.
**
Jinyoung has just put the last book in its spot when he stands, finding Jaebum hovering by the checkout desk. In his hand is a little pink backpack and he can't help but give a questioning look.
"Hyunjin left this behind earlier, I figured you'd be the most appropriate person to give it to."
Jinyoung takes it, but opens his mouth to decline. No matter what they thought, he didn't even know where the two lived, what was he supposed to do with it? Jaebum beats him to the question and materializes a post-it note, address scribbled on it. "You can return it," he orders.
"OK," he gives in and slings the little pink bag over his shoulder. He gives his section one last look over before heading off on his mission.
The apartment on the post-it note isn't that far from the store. There's a broken security gate that he goes right through and his inner wolf begins to flare up as it appears extremely unsafe for two women to be living there alone. He tells himself to relax, he was sure Hyunjin wouldn't like him trying to exert any dominance over her. Despite the run down appearance of the place, majority of the windows have a string of Christmas lights hanging in the front window or some kind of other decoration, it gives him hope that it's not so bad after all. He knows he's reached her place when everything is plain as if it were not holiday season.
He rings the bell and hopes Hyunjin is glad to see him.
"Hyemi!" he hears Hyunjin shout from somewhere in the apartment. He understands why, when Hyemi pops the door open. A breathless Hyunjin pulls her out of the way a second later. "Oh," she comments when she sees it's just Jinyoung standing at the door. "Thank god it's just you."
"Here," he quickly hands over the bag. "Jaebum sent me to return it."
Hyunjin looks even more relieved at his offering. "Oh my god, thank you! You're a lifesaver, I was going to have to go get it in a few minutes."
"Well invite the boy in if you're so thankful," Jinyoung flushes at the response, he's sure it's not meant in the way he's thinking, but his inner wolf isn't thinking very nicely.
"Mom," Hyunjin groans. "He probably has to go, we shouldn't bother him."
"Actually," he tries to fight the grin at the pleading look Hyunjin starts to give him. "I was just going to go home and eat dinner all alone."
"It's a crime for someone to eat alone!" her mother declares. "Come on in," she tells him as she appears at the door and ushers Hyunjin out of the way.
"Thank you," he tells her mother, noticing that one of her arms was in a sling.
Jinyoung feels a bit guilty at the embarrassed look that Hyunjin begins to spot, but it's not like he planned to do this for the rest of his life. He was curious and one night would satisfy that curiosity.
Hyemi on the other hand is super excited to see him. She runs right up and hugs him.
"Jinyoung, right?" Hyunjin's mother asks as she leads him into their kitchen. Hyunjin just silently set off to prepare a plate for him.
"Yes," he politely responds, pleasantly surprised that she knew his name.
"It's nice to finally meet the young man that my girls won't stop talking about."
**
Jinyoung had been in a great mood all day. It was finally his day off, which he felt a bit sad over at first. He hadn't realized how much he looked forward to work, he was sure a certain woman and her daughter were the cause of this, but he wasn't completely bummed.
Tonight was the annual staff holiday party. Last year he'd spent majority of the party idly wandering with Mark and Jaebum, but this year he was hoping for a change. He knew not to get his hopes up, he could feel it in his soul that Hyunjin was more than likely going to skip given her situation.
Jinyoung was thankful for Hyunjin's mom. Getting answers from Hyunjin was like pulling teeth, but her mother was the opposite. For such a closed off person, he wondered how Hyunjin had gotten that way. Her mother had no problems opening their life up to him. Her mother explained that she'd tore her shoulder at work and was fired from her own job, putting a huge weight on Hyunjin to deal with everything alone.
Suddenly the world went silent to him and he caught onto that lovely scent. Being surrounded by her and her scent last night muffled his brain because she'd been the only thing on his mind all day. He knew this was not normal, but he just went with it.
Hyunjin instantly spotted him and made her way over. He couldn't help but notice the fact that Hyunjin was in a dress, a very tight dress that did nothing to hide her figure. "Oh thank god you're here," she broke his attention. She blushed when she belatedly noticed Mark and Jaebum standing with him. "H-hello," she shyly greets him.
"You know Jaebum and Mark, right?" he sends them a look, hoping they'd disappear.
"Yes!" Hyunjin nervously brushed away a strand of hair that fell out of place. "I'm sorry Hyemi was bothering you the other day," she tells Mark.
Mark just shrugs it off. "It's OK, she's not that bad to be around." He yelps, startled when Jaebum grabbed him by the elbow. "Excuse us," Jaebum tells Hyunjin and steers a complaining Mark away.
Hyunjin finally turns back to Jinyoung, guilty look on her face. "I made your friends leave, sorry."
Jinyoung snorts, "No worries, they're boring anyway."
Hyunjin looks annoyed now. "That's only because you now know all my secrets!"
A grin spreads across his face at her words. They were true, Hyunjin's mom had definitely overshared. He didn't mind though, he shared just as much, only leaving out his one obvious secret.
"Honestly, I hate Christmas," she sighs, looking around at all the decoration hung around their tiny break room.
Jinyoung's shocked at her confession. "No one hates Christmas," he states.
"Well I do."
Suddenly, Jinyoung wants to make it his mission to change her opinion.
** Instead of lazying around watching whatever random movie he could find online, Jinyoung received a frantic call earlier in the day. Hyunjin was at her first job—he didn't even realize she had another job, no wonder she was falling asleep at random—and couldn't get off in time to pick up Hyemi. Jinyoung knew to trust his wolf instinct when it told him to force his number on her, telling her to call if she ever needed anything.
He stands out in the sea of moms in their leggings and t-shirts. He's got on a button up top and some dress slacks, which looking back, he knows is a silly choice to wear. Why am I dressing up for a kid? he scolds himself. But it's too late now, Hyemi's class gets out in two minutes and he would never make it to his apartment and back before then.
He also notices he's the only male and much younger than most. Even Hyunjin seems younger than most. He guessed she was a few years older than him, but it only leaves him wondering how old she really was. To think she already had a kid and was taking care of it on her own made him feel so useless. Most days it was a struggle for him just to get to work on time.
As soon as kids start pouring out of the room, he immediately looks for Hyemi. She's one of the last few and she frantically searches for her mom. When her eyes land on him, she lights up and runs right at him. "Jinyoung!" she yells as she throws herself at him. The impact almost knocks him over, but he quickly rights himself.
"Hello to you too," he laughs as she crushes him in a hug.
"Where's mom?" she questions as she looks behind him, like she'd missed Hyunjin.
"She's at work, she asked me to come get you. Is that OK?" he asks when he sees her get sad. It's brief before she's smiling again. "OK!" she answers.
By now, the two have caught the attention of the rest of the class. Jinyoung scans the class wondering which one told her she was abandoned by her dad, scowling at them all for good measure. "Do you want to say goodbye to your friends before we go?"
Hyemi doesn't spare anyone a second glance and starts tugging on his hand. "Nope."
He's relieved when she waves at a couple of girls in another class a few doors down.
** Jinyoung tightly holds her hand anytime they come to a crosswalk and makes sure he's the closest to the street as they walk. It's all so stressful to him and it's only been a few minutes.
"Can we get ice cream?" Hyemi breaks his concentration.
He glances up at where she's pointing and sees a man selling ice cream cones at the park across the street from them.
"Sure."
The man is scooping out their ice cream when Jinyoung's phone rings and he's surprised to see it's Hyunjin.
"Hello?" he answers as he watches Hyemi delicately take her cone.
"Where are you?" Hyunjin immediately questions. "It's already fifteen after and it only takes about five minutes to walk—"
"Stop. Take a deep breath," Jinyoung interrupts. When she complies, he continues. "We stopped at the park for ice cream."
"Ice cream? Jinyoung I told you I don't like spoiling her."
Jinyoung gasps, "since when is ice cream spoiling her?"
"Jinyoung," Hyunjin warns.
"OK, I promise no more after this. I'll take her straight home now."
"Can we play in the park after this?" Hyemi's little voice asks from beside him.
"Tell her I said no," Hyunjin answers through the phone.
Jinyoung stares down at her hopeful face and he hates to be the bearer of bad news.
"Only a few minutes wouldn't hurt, would it?" he asks instead. "Besides, your mom's shoulder is pretty bad. Maybe you should have someone else watch Hyemi while it's hurt."
Hyunjin lets out a sigh at this. "You know I know no one else."
"See, a break for one day won't kill anything will it?"
Hyunjin takes a deep breath, he can tell she's trying not to snap at him. "Fine. But you let her get hurt and I'll hurt you, got it?"
"Yes ma'am."
"OK, I'll check up on you again."
"Got it!" he tells her, hanging up before she can change her mind. He gives Hyemi the OK and she takes off.
"Wolves live here!" she yells, ice cream dripping all over as she runs off into the trees.
Jinyoung laughs, watching her eat and search around as he eats his own cone.
** After Hyemi tired herself out, Jinyoung proceeded to carry her home. When he showed up at his apartment he cursed himself, he'd forgotten to take her home. It felt so natural bringing her to his own place that he didn't even think twice about it.
Mark and Jaebum sat on the couch as he entered the living room. He raised a finger to his lips to quiet them. In return they gave him questioning looks, seeing Hyemi passed out on his shoulder. He gently laid her down on the empty couch so not to wake her and motioned for them to follow him into the kitchen.
"Is there something you need to tell us," Mark starts. "Like when did you suddenly become a dad?"
Jinyoung shoots him a glare. "Hyunjin needed someone to watch her."
"So you brought her here." Jaebum answers for him.
"I forgot to take her back home, OK?" he puts his hands up in defeat. "Hyunjin's mother normally watches her but her arm's in a sling."
Mark and Jaebum share looks of concern.
"You're not going to be having her over all the time are you?" Jaebum questions, looking horrified at the thought.
"Of course not," Mark answers for him. "He'll have to move out because we don't have enough room for a family here."
Jinyoung sends Mark a nasty glare. The thought didn't seem that bad, but it wasn't like that with Hyunjin. He wasn't sure what they were yet honestly.
Suddenly he remembers an advertisement at the park. It had been awhile since the three did anything and they were having a light show at the park later in the night. Since Christmas was right around the corner, the show was Christmas themed and Jinyoung thought it would be a fun idea to see it.
"Hey, you guys doing anything later?" he asks to change the subject.
"I'm going to the movies with Jackson," Mark looks sheepish.
"Youngjae wants me to look over one of his assignments," Jaebum also turns him down.
Jinyoung huffs, crossing his arms in disappointment. "You two never have time for me anymore."
Jaebum waves over to the couch. "Take them."
Jinyoung knows he's already in trouble, he doubts Hyunjin would be up for it. He stands there and ponders the thought for a moment. It wouldn't hurt to try since he had his heart so set on seeing the silly little light show.
"I'll see," he tells them and rushes off to his bedroom.
Phone already in his hand, he calls up Hyunjin, nervous for some reason. When she answers he almost loses all nerve.
"Before you yell at me, Hyemi's OK."
"I wasn't going to yell at you." Hyunjin sighs into the phone. "I trust you. Plus I thought it over and you're right. Maybe a little treat now and then isn't so bad."
He grins, feeling like a puppy that just got rewarded for doing a good job.
He lets out a nervous laugh. "Speaking of that, there's this little light show in the park, would you be interested in seeing it? I figured me and Hyemi could meet up with you and the three of us could see it."
The line goes silent. "Hello?" he asks, thinking the call dropped.
"Sounds good, I gotta go!" she hurriedly replies before hanging up on him.
Relief courses through him.
** The light show isn't as silly as he thought it would be. It was actually well thought out and fun. Clearly Hyemi enjoyed herself but Hyunjin was different. She remained blank faced throughout the show, he knew because he kept glancing over, trying to gauge her reaction to everything.
"That was fun," she finally breaks the silence after the last song played. "We haven't done anything like this since she was a little kid."
"Really?"
"Yeah, since—" she glances down at Hyemi and gives Jinyoung a knowing look. Since Hyemi's father left, Jinyoung fills in the gap.
"Glad I could bring some fun back into your life then," Jinyoung teases, hoping to lift the mood.
"Mom, that was awesome," Hyemi interjects, continuing on about the show and all her favorite parts.
"Don't tell me," Hyunjin stops her and pats Jinyoung on the back. "Tell him."
"OK!" Hyemi yells out before turning to crush Jinyoung's leg in a hug.
Hyunjin laughs at the gesture, shaking her head in a fond sort of way.
"Thanks Jinyoung," Hyemi whispers out. "Oh, there's our house," she shouts out, noticing the little apartment complex just down the street.
"Yep," Hyunjin replies. "You have to get ready for bed as soon as we're there."
Hyemi lets out a groan, but doesn't say more. Jinyoung finds it odd that she's actually quiet. Only as they're walking through the complex to the apartment does she decide to speak up.
"Mom?" she questions, turning to look up at Hyunjin. "Why can't Jinyoung be my dad?"
The question stops Hyunjin in her tracks. "Go inside now," she orders once she opens the door for Hyemi. As Hyemi disappears through the door, Hyunjin slams it shut behind the girl and turns to Jinyoung.
Jinyoung suddenly feels awkward. Hyunjin's reaction isn't a good one, he can already tell he won't like what she's about to say.
"I'm sorry for that," Hyunjin instantly blurts out.
"It's fine, I don't mind." Jinyoung shrugs. It was just a curious question, he understood that.
"No, it's not." Hyunjin crosses her arms in defense. "I knew her hanging around you so much was a bad idea."
"What?" Jinyoung scoffs, feeling offended. He'd been nothing but nice to that little girl.
"You're a good guy, I know," she pauses thinking over the right words. "But it's not right. She's too young to understand relationships so I want to end this before she gets anymore attached to you."
Jinyoung is so floored, he's lost all words.
"Thank you for tonight. For everything, really. I'll make sure she doesn't bother you anymore."
** If Jaebum or Mark passed by to check up on him one more time—Jinyoung was sure he was going to lose it. After Hyunjin told him off, he had went straight home and hadn't left his room for anything. Since then, they'd been tiptoeing around him, probably well aware of how pissed he was.
He understood what Hyunjin had meant. Hyemi has already lost one father figure, Hyunjin was just trying to protect her child from another heartbreak. What really got to him was the fact that Hyunjin assumed he was just the same. Had he not proved he wasn't even remotely like that?
Just as another pang of hurt coursed through him, Mark came into view. He hoped he was sending Mark the deadliest look he could muster. It must have worked, seeing the look on Jinyoung's face, Mark immediately spun on his heel and headed back to his own section.
Jaebum, too, also came into view, but he didn't run off like Mark. "Stop looking like you're about to kill everyone," Jaebum scolded as he leaned up against the register. "You're scaring off customers."
Jinyoung scoffed, there hadn't been a single person through. There was no one to scare off.
"Are you mute, suddenly?" Jaebum asks seriously this time.
Jinyoung shakes his head in answer which Jaebum rolls his eyes to.
"Just don't bite anyone's head off, OK?" He leaves without hearing Jinyoung's answer.
He can't make any promises, especially when he can now hear Hyemi's voice off in the distance. Mark's talking to her and he suddenly feels his wolf flaring up again. Break seems like a good idea now.
And it works, being out in the cool air calms him down. He picked a spot where he normally doesn't rest at so he knows he's safe.
Safe until he catches wind of Hyunjin's scent, she pops out of the doors right beside him, Hyemi in toe, chattering about some wolf thing like normal. His wolf, bruised but not beaten, begs for him to go confront the woman. He can't though, it would only result in him spitting out something he didn't mean.
"Jinyoung!" Hyemi announces once she spots him. Like usual, he softens and returns her wave.
"Come on," Hyunjin grabs Hyemi's hand in her own and drags her away.
"But mom, why can't we sit with him?" he hears the child ask.
"I told you, you can't bother him anymore."
"But mom," Hyemi whines again.
Jinyoung's not sure what yet, but he wants to do something just to spite Hyunjin.
** Jinyoung knows just what to do when he spots Hyemi talking to Mark again. She was excited, rapidly talking about wolves as usual. The only difference is the little wolf doll clutched in her arms. She's hugging it to herself and he knows he has to get it. Before closing time, he sneaks over to Mark's section and picks up the little doll.
"What are you doing?" Jaebum questions when he sees Jinyoung in line.
"Purchasing an item," Jinyoung snarkily replies.
Jaebum glares at him. "What are you doing with that?"
Jiyoung doesn't reply. It's obvious who he's buying it for.
"Considering Hyunjin has been telling Hyemi to stop bothering you for the last two days, I don't think that's appropriate right now."
He continues to ignore Jaebum as it's finally his turn in line. The girl behind the register is clearly nervous at the fact that the store manager is watching her like a hawk.
"Are you going to let me pay or should I move to another isle?" He snaps at the girl. When she looks frightened, he feels bad. But doesn't she know, the customer is always right.
She finally comes to her senses and rings up the doll. He hands her the money and snatches the bag from her hand, still ignoring Jaebum the whole time.
It's only when he's outside that Jaebum stops him. "Will you please just talk to me?"
His hurt wolf tells him not to say a word but it's Jaebum. No matter how angry he is, Jaebum has always been a good brother to him. Never guiding him wrong. He's shaking, just thinking of what happened, but he tells him anyway.
"She told me that she didn't want me to hurt Hyemi just like her ex."
Jaebum hums out in understanding. "To hurt her."
Jinyoung hadn't even thought of it that way. His wolf suddenly feels relieved. She must have felt something to be scared.
Before his wolf starts running around in circles of joy, Jaebum manages to kill his mood again.
"Maybe you should give her some space, I don't think pressing the point is a good idea right now."
He knows he's right, but Jinyoung sneers at him.
"I'm just saying, I'm sure she'll come around."
Jinyoung sighs, Hyunjin's really stubborn. "I don't think so."
** Despite feeling like there's no hope to fix their relationship, Jinyoung wraps the little wolf doll. It proves to be more difficult than he thought, but he manages to make it turn out pretty decent. It doesn't look professional, but it's not horrible either.
He's nervous as he goes into work that night. His stomach does a flip when he doesn't see Hyunjin before his shift. He dejectedly carries it with him back to his section. Knowing Hyemi, he's sure he'll hear her pestering Mark and give it to her then. When he doesn't hear her, he gets a little panicked.
He throws open the door to Jaebum's office after his shift is over. Worry written all over his face, he doesn't have time to feel sorry for bursting in.
"You better have a damn good reason for that," Jaebum barks at him as he gets up to pick up the pieces of paper Jinyoung scattered all over the floor.
"I do," he at least has the decency to help pick up the papers as well. "Did Hyunjin not come into work?"
Jaebum rolls his eyes and makes a noise of disapproval.
"She called out for the day, didn't say why."
Jinyoung sighs in disappointment, he was hoping to give it to her before he lost all courage.
"I told you to give her some space," Jaebum scolds.
Jinyoung doesn't want to listen to his advice, but he agrees. He knew she'd be back tomorrow and he'd just try again then.
Until she doesn't show up the next day. This alarms Jinyoung. Jaebum has no answer, only says she sounded distressed so he couldn't deny her. He asked for a reason why, knowing Jinyoung would want to know, but she wouldn't explain. Jinyoung's heart drops to the pit of his stomach, knowing how much responsibility weighed on her shoulders, he knew it had to be something major.
It's probably not the best idea, but he decides to drop by and see if everything is OK anyway.
It's not, Hyunjin answers the door in tears, a look of hope on her face. When she sees it's just him, she burst into tears. Too grief stricken to reply, she almost shuts the door in his face. Her mom stops her, once she realizes it's him at the door.
"Honey, go sit down," she orders.
"Is everything OK?" he tries to calmly ask. He feels dumb as hell for showing up now. Not to mention, his wolf is going crazy wanting to comfort her. It breaks his heart seeing Hyunjin so broken.
Hyunjin's mom takes a deep breath and shakes her head, she finally tears up as well. "Hyemi's missing," her voice shakes.
If he didn't know any better, he'd thought the word had stopped around him. He doesn't say anymore, just turns and runs out of the complex.
** Jinyoung barely made it to an alley to strip off his clothes before the transformation took over. He knew this was bad, it was rare that he couldn't control his wolf. The sight of Hyunjin broken, and the thought of Hyemi lost and all alone, put him over the edge.
As a wolf, he had to take several deep breaths to calm himself. The last thing he needed to do was to go on a murderous rampage and get himself in trouble. Instead, he hoped to use his heightened senses to his advantage.
He scoops his clothes in his mouth before peeking out at the street around him. It's empty, much to his fortune. He takes off up the street to try and figure out where Hyemi might have gone.
Starting at the apartment proves to be a good idea. He catches her scent out on the sidewalk in front. It's faint, but it's just enough. He follows it to the park where the three of them watched the light show. Still following the scent, it leads him right to the small patch of trees in the middle of the park.
In the line of trees, Jinyoung easily spots Hyemi curled up into a ball on the floor. She appears to be asleep, but her head perks up at the sight of him. "Wolf," she squeals and starts to stand.
He knew now was not the time to be thinking like this, but he had to admit, she had more balls than adults three times her age.
Before she runs over to him, he disappears back out of her sight. Maybe one day in the future he would let her pet him, but now was not the time. Hyunjin was worried sick over her, his only thoughts were to bring Hyemi home. He circled around to the opposite end of the trees and shifted back to his human form to get dressed.
Fully dressed, he peeked out around the tree he stood behind. Hyemi was still standing in place, looking after the way he ran off. She's clearly dejected. He steps out of the trees now. "Hyemi?" he sternly calls out.
The sudden calling of her name startles her. She whips around, eyes wide as saucers and greets him. "Jinyoung!" she yells out as she runs over to him.
He lifts her up into his arms, glad that she’s safe. She's freezing though, with only her mandatory school uniform to keep her warm.
"Have you been here the whole time?" he questions, frowning at her.
"I'm sorry," she says instead and buries her head in his shoulder.
He softens at the action and starts back to her home.
Hyunjin lets out a gasping sob when she opens the door. Her mom runs over and also bursts into tears. The two of them stand there, crushing both Hyemi and Jinyoung in a hug as they cry. When they calm down, Hyunjin's mom takes Hyemi from him and leaves the two to speak in private.
Hyunjin immediately grabs him into another hug, Jinyoung knows it's to say thanks as she can hardly speak. But she lets him go and clears her throat. "Thank you," she gets out as she wipes away her tears. "I don't know how you found her, but thank you."
He opens his mouth to reply, but is stunned to silence when instead she stands on her tiptoes to kiss him right on the cheek.
"Even though I don't want you to, you're always coming to my rescue."
** Jinyoung knew he should feel happy—Hyunjin kissed him! Only on the cheek, but it was still better than nothing. He didn't understand why he felt like shit. Maybe because despite such an amazing moment, that still didn't change anything. Hyunjin returned to work like nothing had happened, keeping Hyemi at bay as well. For now, it seemed his days were doomed to being miserable at work and then locking himself up in his room once he got home.
Leaning on the cash register, he knew it wasn't good to keep staring at the spot Hyemi used to sit and read, it would only make him more depressed, but he couldn't get himself to stop.
Someone clearing his throat, brought him back to reality. He opened his mouth to greet the customer, but he quickly realized it was Jaebum. "Oh, what do you want?" he snipped, returning to his previous position.
Jaebum sighed. "Why don't you just tell her she's your mate and get it over with. This—"
Jinyoung's whole world spun at the word mate. "What?" he interrupted.
"What do you mean 'what', you know what a mate is."
"No—I mean—" he couldn't think straight, so he took a deep breath. "How do you know Hyunjin's my mate?"
Jaebum gave him a look that read 'are you stupid?'.
"I'm being serious," he responded.
Jaebum sighed. "Enticing smell, only thing you can focus on, life suddenly revolves around her?"
"Oh," Jinyoung dumbly answered.
"How could you not know, we used to talk all the time about mates as a kid."
Jinyoung frowned. "Yeah, but I gave up that hope for us a long time ago."
Jaebum chuckled at this. "It never happens when you want it to. Besides, do you know how long ago I would have fired her if not for you?"
"What?" Jinyoung glares at him over those words.
"Since you obviously don't know, she can't keep bringing her kid to work. If one of the region managers catches her, we're both done."
Jinyoung calms down at this. "Thank you."
"No need, just tell her and get it over with," Jaebum orders and pats him on the shoulder as he leaves.
The fact that Hyunjin is his mate is all he can think of for the rest of his shift.
And when he sees her, struggling to carry a sleepy Hyemi out of the store after work, he goes to her rescue without thinking twice.
** Jinyoung's stomach flips the next day when he runs into her before work. She's all alone for once, Hyemi nowhere in sight. He decides to gather all his courage and speak to her.
"Hey," he greets.
"Hello," Hyunjin shyly greets back, not quite able to meet his eyes. Suddenly something dawns on her and she grabs his shoulder. "Oh, can I get your opinion on something?"
"Sure," he doesn't hesitate.
"OK," Hyunjin nods and tightens her hold on him as she drags him to the store's jewelry department. His brows furrow in worry, wondering why she would be taking him there, but he silently follows.
Hyunjin stops at a glass counter and peers down, pointing at a little gold necklace with a wolf pendant.
"What do you think?"
He looks down, confused why she's asking his opinion about it.
"It's cute?" he offers.
"I thought so too," she nods, taking his answer seriously.
When she notices the confused look on his face, she answers, "It's for Hyemi. I'm getting her a Christmas present after all."
The look of shock on his face must say it all.
"I know," Hyunjin puts her hands up in defeat. "It's a miracle, right?" He laughs, but doesn't answer. "Actually, it's because of you."
"Me?"
"Yeah, you spoil her without any hesitation and I want to do that as well." she looks at him softly, a hint of adoration in her eyes. "I guess you can say you influenced me."
He feels warm all over and figures, just maybe, there was still hope for them.
** The department store is closed for Christmas day. In usual tradition, Jinyoung, along with Jaebum and Mark get up bright and early to go back to Jaebum's parent's house. They spend most of the day catching his mom up, she's always so happy to see the three of them and be filled in on their lives.
"What has my little Jinyoung so distracted?" he hears Jaebum's mom ask.
"Hm?" he questions, finally zoning in on the conversation. It's after dinner and they are just sitting around the table, casually talking about life, but he wasn't listening. He was thinking about Hyunjin and Hyemi, of course, and missed what they were talking about completely.
"Jinyoung found his mate," Mark blurts out.
Jinyoung glares at Mark. He was hoping to get by without having to actually talk about her. Although not completely over, it was disappointing.
"Tell me all about her," of course his mom demands.
"Well... there's not much to say," he nervously answers. It was true, Hyunjin and him hadn't gone anywhere in their relationship.
Jaebum's mom reaches across the table and swats him on the arm. "You should have invited her over."
From the look of concern that washes over her features, Jinyoung's sure he must look miserable.
"You haven't told her, have you?" she immediately catches on.
He swallows the lump in his throat, not sure why he suddenly wants to cry. "Not yet."
Jaebum's mom gets to her feet and comes around the table to hug him. She lets out a defeated sigh, but makes him stand. "What?" he questions before she silences him.
"Go get her, you're basically not here anyway!"
He makes a noise of objection, but everyone is giving him looks that says to go.
"Don't worry, we've already had dinner. It's fine," his mom encourages.
He feels guilty, but grabs his coat anyway. He doesn't need to be told twice. If anything he would just dump all his feelings on Hyunjin and leave it up to her to decide.
** Before heading straight to Hyunjin's, Jinyoung made sure to drop by and grab his gift for Hyemi. He feels a little silly for not getting Hyunjin something, but he's certain she'd probably chew his head off if he did actually get her a gift. The thought makes him feel better as he heads to her apartment.
At her apartment, Hyemi answers the door. There's no Hyunjin to scold, just Hyunjin's mom. Hyunjin's mom is surprised to see him, but ushers him in quickly.
"What are you doing here?" she asks, showing him into their living room.
"What's that?" Hyemi busters out, only concerned with the gift in his hand.
Jinyoung grins down at the little girl and hands it to her. "Actually, it's for you."
Hyemi takes the gift and instantly starts to rip it.
"Wait!" both him and Hyunjin's mom stop her.
"Why?" she angrily shouts back.
Hyunjin's mom beats him to answering. "Wait for your mom to get home before you open it, silly. Don't you think she's want to see?"
"Right!" Hyemi caves, disappointment all over her face.
Hyunjin's mom turns to him now. She gives him a confused look. "She said she was heading to your place, had something to talk with you about."
His heart wants to burst out of his chest, she wanted to talk to him by her own choice?
"I was just there, I didn't see her," he answers instead.
"Must have just missed her."
Jinyoung nods at this and points at the door. "I'm going to go see if I can catch her."
Hyunjin's mom nods and waves him off, more concerned with Hyemi, who's taken their distraction as a chance to try and 'accidentally' open her gift.
"Put that under the tree and don't touch it," is the last thing he hears before he's off running out the door.
He makes it to his apartment in a few minutes, panting and probably looking a mess. He takes a second to fix himself, he'd hate to look awful when he finally confessed his feelings to Hyunjin. Once he was confident in himself, he heads to his apartment.
The smell of Hyunjin hits him as he gets to his hallway. She's leaned up against his apartment door, looking bored out of her mind.
"Hey," he greets, breaking her concentration.
"Hey," she squeaks, looking nervous now that they're face to face.
"What are you doing here?" he asks.
"Um," Hyunjin stumbled, suddenly wide eyed like she had no idea either. "This!" she exclaimed, pulling out a gold watch.
He gives her a confused look.
"You dropped it at my place the night you found Hyemi," she softened. "I noticed it was broken and had it repaired for you."
He carefully takes the watch in his hand, expecting it and seeing that it looked perfectly as he remembered. He hadn't even noticed it was missing. Running his hand over the face of it, he instantly puts it back on, feeling completely touched that she went out of her way to get it fixed for him.
"Thank you," he tells her.
"No, thank you," she tells him back. "I can't say it enough."
He smiles, shaking off her gratitude. "No need, I'd do anything for you."
He's not sure if she says anything else, he's only able to hear his wolf going crazy. Kiss her, you fool, it chants. So he does. He leans right in and kisses her.
He hears a squeal of excitement and quickly breaks off the kiss. Scowling, he sees it's Mark and Jaebum. They're standing at the other end of the hall, gawking at him like they've just witnessed a miracle. "Hey, how about we go..." Jaebum trails off feeling the awkward tension. "Let's just go anywhere else, OK?" he orders Mark, taking the older boy by the arm.
"Wait," Hyunjin stops them. "I was just leaving actually."
She gives Jinyoung a shy look before rushing past him.
Jinyoung lets out the biggest sigh. Now how is he supposed to calm down his wolf?
** Jinyoung was feeling very satisfied the next day. He went into work confident, after having finally made a move. It felt even better when him and Hyunjin began texting throughout the day. He was just replying back to her latest text when the scent of her hit him. Looking up from his phone, she shyly waved at him as she walked over.
"Hey," she greeted, as she casually leaned on his register. "I'm on break," she offered.
"Oh?" he feigns surprise, making sure to tease her. "Glad I'm your first thought."
She rolls her eyes, but the smile doesn't fall off her face. "I wanted to tell you something face to face."
Sensing she wasn't in the joking mood, Jinyoung gets serious as well. "OK."
Hyunjin takes a deep breath and avoids his eyes, instead choosing to focus on his hands which she takes one in her own. "This morning, I got a raise."
"That's great, isn't it?"
"Yeah, you know I can definitely use the pay raise."
"But?" he questions.
"Well, now I can afford to quit this job."
His heart sinks hearing this. He looked forward to seeing her everyday and now she was going to leave?
"My mom got the OK to stop wearing her sling and she starts therapy, so she can't really watch Hyemi anymore. It's all really working out for the better, you know?" She doesn't say it, but he can read it in her eyes. It's all working out, except for him.
"So when do you quit?"
"Today."
Disappointment hits him like a wall and he can't hold back the frown that crosses his face.
"I mean it's not like we won't see each other again, right?" she looks hopefully at him.
In his usual perfect timing, Jaebum pops up. "You, breaks over," he tells Hyunjin and practically barks at him, "Jinyoung, go on break."
Jinyoung lets out a sigh as Hyunjin nods a goodbye to him and leaves back to her station. With Jaebum nowhere in sight, Jinyoung decides to run after Hyunjin. He wasn't quite finished with their conversation.
"You're right, there's no reason we shouldn't see each other again."
Hyunjin brightens up at his words and shyly smiles at him. "Right."
"How about tomorrow? After I get off work? Do you think your mom can watch Hyemi for just a little bit?"
She doesn't even hesitate. "Yeah, of course!"
"Great. It's a date."
"A date," Hyunjin agrees.
They've reached her section and Jinyoung knows he should probably go. No use getting her in trouble on her last day, but his feet won't move. They stay planted, letting him stare into her eyes.
And just as he leans over to kiss Hyunjin, Jaebum walks by. He doesn't stop, just leaves them with his words.
"Employees aren't allowed to kiss during work hours."
** Jinyoung wished that when he got to retell the story of his first date with his mate that it would be amazing. Something for people to envy. Something that was not a disaster. It's like his brain wouldn't calm down and think, it refused to let him act like a normal human. He knocked his drink over onto, not just him, but Hyunjin as well. Then when he tried to help clean it up, he knocked over hers as well. The embarrassment didn't stop there, of course. He stood to go to the men's room and ran right into a waiter, creating an even bigger scene.
After all the commotion, luckily Hyunjin was OK with leaving. He was so upset with himself, he couldn't bring himself to talk with her on the walk home. It was awkward and silent, only Hyunjin glancing at him in concern. When her apartment came into view, he was never more happy to see it.
Hyunjin stopped at her door and turned to him. "Don't be so hard on yourself, OK?" she told him, trying to look him in the eye.
"You don't have to sugar coat it, I know I ruined it." He finally answered, looking sadly down at her.
Hyunjin laughed. "Honestly it was cute. You're always so perfect, it was nice seeing you normal for once."
Her confession made his face heat up. "What?"
"Oh, come on," she rolled her eyes at him. "You walk around dressed very neatly, and you're perfect at everything. You're unreal sometimes."
He scoffed at this. "No, I'm very normal."
"It's part of your charm, don't take it as an insult. I don't care what you say, I still enjoyed myself."
Jinyoung clucked his tongue at this. "There's no way you could."
Hyunjin let out a sigh and said no more, just pulled him in for a hug.
"I'll make it up to you," he promised, finally hugging her back.
But he doesn't get the chance, he spends the next month over at Hyunjin's house helping out in any way he can. It's fun, never a dull moment in their household, but he would kill for some alone time with her. He mopes around at work and if he has to hear Jaebum complain about him one more time—he might just flip out.
Luckily none of that is necessary. Hyunjin suggests they do something one night, and he feels like his prayers have been answered.
** Hyunjin suggested they stay in for their next date, which he couldn't agree with more. He invited her over, making sure to throw out both Mark and Jaebum. Last thing he needed was those two hovering around, making him more nervous than he already was. The beauty about having a movie night was there was for sure no way for him to screw it up. All they had to do was watch a movie, talk, eat. Simple things.
Hyunjin sat curled up on the couch as he went in the kitchen to get them drinks. "Do you know Hyemi is still talking about wolves?" Hyunjin brings up. When he returns from the kitchen, he sees why. The TV is muted, but there is a rerun of A Werewolf Boy playing on screen. He thinks fondly back on how he tried to tell her the plot of it and got caught.
"Maybe she's destined to be a wolf's mate," he casually responded. His eyes widened when he realized he'd slipped up. Luckily, Hyunjin didn't take it seriously, instead smiled at the idea.
"That would be so cute and romantic. Having a soulmate seems nice."
He cocks a brow at this, surprised she'd actually said that.
"Not that I want to be someone's soulmate, you know?" she clarifies, suddenly speaking very fast. "I have you, I don't need a soulmate." Now she looks scared. "Not that we aren't soulmates, I think we match very well."
He puts his hand on her thigh to calm her down. "I didn't realize you believed in werewolves," he skirts around the topic of soulmates, already knowing the truth.
"I'm not saying they're real, but you never know. The world is too much a mystery for me to rule anything out."
His heart fluttered at her answer. Fate sure did have a funny way of working. How amazing was it that his mate not only thought his kind was a possibility, she was open for such an idea too. His wolf stirred, telling him to just tell her everything. No delay. Now or never.
But her phone rang, Hyemi's face appeared on the screen and he wanted to cry. So much for his perfect opportunity.
** Jinyoung really had to thank Hyunjin's mom. She'd nagged Hyunjin to take a break so much, they'd actually had a few more dates. All like their second date. Nights in, where he couldn't mess up. And he had to hand it to himself, he was getting less and less nervous around her.
Especially tonight where more than anything he wanted to pounce on her. His wolf was going crazy. He had Hyunjin tucked warmly by his side, the two opting for snuggling rather than a movie like usual. When he showed up at her door to walk with her to his place, he realized she was just too tired for anything else. Happy just to have her alone, he would have agreed to anything really.
She threw her leg over his and tried to snuggle even further into his side, like that was possible. "You're really warm," she commented as she let out a sigh of relaxation.
"Oh?" he feigned ignorance. He was on fire. Every part of him wanted to just push her back and take her right then. But he couldn't. He'd promised himself he wouldn't make a move until he told her the truth. He hated himself for agreeing to such a condition, but he knew it was right. It was better to get it out before progressing any further.
"Yeah, I like it," she commented. "You remind me of a dog."
He broke out into a laugh. "What?" he questioned, sitting up to look at her. That comment was out of left field.
"I'm so sorry," she nervously covered her mouth. "I didn't mean that. It's just that as a kid, I had a pet dog and he was always like a little heater."
He dropped the smile off his face, this was the moment he was waiting for!
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to compare you to a dog!" Hyunjin blurted out, taking his serious look for offense.
"It's fine, I don't care," he told her, taking her hands into his own. "I have to tell you something."
A nervous look crossed Hyunjin's face. "Is everything OK?" she questioned.
"Yeah, of course," he smiled at her. She smiled back, friendly, encouraging him to continue then.
"Remember how I said maybe Hyemi was a wolf's mate?"
"Yeah," she let out a laugh.
"Well, it's not Hyemi. It's you."
Hyunjin cocked her head in confusion. "What?"
"It's you. You're the wolf mate. You're my mate."
He let the words hang in the air, waiting for them to register with Hyunjin. For her to laugh it off or call him crazy.
"So you mean you're a werewolf?"
"Yes," he quietly answered.
Hyunjin nodded. "That explains a lot."
"Um," he looked thoroughly confused now. "What?"
"Well, it's winter and you never wear a jacket. Somehow you miraculously found Hyemi when she went missing," she answered seriously. "I said you were unreal and I meant it."
"Oh," he was stunned that she caught onto so much.
"Plus Hyemi told me that little story you told her about Nyeongie. That's you, isn't it?"
He felt his face heat up. Honestly he should have known better. With how obsessed Hyemi was over wolves, he should have expected her to share the story with Hyunjin.
"It doesn't change how I feel for you."
The words surprise him and before he can reply, Hyunjin leans in and kisses him. It's more aggressive than he's used to, like she wants to show him just how much she feels. He falls back onto the bed, not breaking the kiss and accepts it all eagerly. When her hands travel farther down his body then she's ever allowed, he knows it's a sign.
Jinyoung breaks the kiss, taking a moment to stare into her face. She's beautiful, more beautiful than anyone he's ever known. She was strong and independent and probably everything he could ask for in a mate. He wondered how he'd gotten so lucky.
"Can I make love to you?" he's nervous, not quite sure if he'll be good enough, but he wants to try. The fire in him has been burning for so long, he's ready to put it out now. And when she answers a quiet of course, he loses it.
He flips their position so he's hovering over her, hands going to her waist to remove her shirt, but she sits up and, much to his dismay, helps him remove it herself. He wanted to put in all the work, but she's in a hurry. Once shed of her own, he's quick to strip off his clothes, her hands greedily helping him in the progress.
Free of no barrier, she wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him in to another kiss. Jinyoung can't help the laugh that bubbles out. "Slow down, hm?" he questions. "There's no need to rush."
Hyunjin lets out a sigh. "I know," her voice comes out low, strained. "I just want you so badly."
Her anticipation gives him courage. He drops his face into the crook of her neck, her smell even more enticing than usual. He's too embarrassed to tell her he can't hurry, his brain too fuzzy with her to quickly process his next moves. Even his wolf is disappointed in him. It's chanting for him to get it on already, but Hyunjin's worth more than that to him.
He grabs her by the hips and she wraps her legs around him as he lowers them both back down to the bed. He kisses her, this time slow and gentle, like their kisses usually go. While normally he can barely move his hands, too much in fear of going too far, this time he explores. He starts at her neck and travels down the line of her body, only stopping at her hips when she lets out a whimper.
"Feel good?" he grins.
"Yes," she sighs out. She moans when he slips his hand in between her legs. "Better," she breathes out when he starts to slowly circle her clit. "Much better."
He chuckles, but doesn't stop. Just takes in the image of her face flushed, eyes closed, enjoying his lazy hand movements. By now his dick is hard and dying to be in her, but he tries to remain calm. Her before himself, he reminds. When she moans, he quickens the pace, ready to get her to her peak. She rolls her hips in sync with him and lets out a cry when she finally reaches her orgasm.
"Ready for me?" he asks, still wanting to be sure.
"I've been ready," she replies and he loses it.
He presses into her, hissing as he glides in with ease. She was right, she was beyond wet and ready. He goes in deeper. He imagined she'd felt good, but not this much. He can't think of anything, just the need to fill her up as he thrusts in and out. He lets out a groan when he finally cums as well.
Hyunjin pulls him in for a kiss before he collapses on top of her. "I love you," he blurts out without thinking, still breathless and panting on top of her.
He tenses, wondering if she heard him or maybe fallen asleep because she doesn't answer right away like he expects. Much to his own relief, he feels her smile.
"Good because I love you too."

MASTERPIECE
character: park jinyoung x reader
word count:1.6k
summary: you coax park jinyoung into being your nude model for finals requirement
a/n: oh my god i feel so dirty while writing this. this is my first ever smut fanfic ever written and it took all the mental energy i have saved for this weekend to write this. i hope you guys like it.
warning: unprotected sex, please only do it with your trusted s/o!
part 2 of 2
The moment you saw Jinyoung enter the party place you are in, you swore he won’t be able to say no this time. Midterms have just started and it means you have to start working on your piece as soon as possible.
After drowning the remaining liquid in your glass, you grabbed another two on your way to Jinyoung’s direction. You smiled sweetly at him and handed him a drink. He’s looking so much hotter with his hair neatly brushed up and his dress shirt slightly folded up in sleeves.
Jinyoung eyed you interestingly, a smirk briefly tugging at one corner of his lips before he took a sip from the glass “The answer is still no.” You have been really persistent and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy your constant bugging.
You faked a hurt expression, your shoulders dramatically slumping and leaning against the bar to emphasize your disappointment. Lately, you’ve been considering a proposal to Jinyoung—which you were not completely sure you can do let alone speak to him with your own tongue. You wanted this, though. So you have to at least ask him.
You swayed your hand holding the glass of liquor, circling the contents inside to hide your trembling. You looked over at Jinyoung who is now eyeing the dancefloor. His eyes gleam at every flicker of the party lights. You scooped closer to him and placed your lips near his ear. “How about we both go naked while I paint you?” you whispered to him using all of the remaining confidence that you have. You just wish you seemed as sultry as you hope you’d be when you did it.
Jinyoung’s eyes widened in surprise but it was constantly replaced with a dark and hazy expression. He turned to you, slightly tilting his head to one side, and grabbed you by the waist. “Baby girl, you could have saved yourself all the troubles if you made that proposal from the very start,” he said as he moved his hand dangerously lower on your back. “When do you need to see me naked?”
You’ve been so worried about merely telling him about your idea that you didn’t think he’d actually agree to it. You blushed and chewed on your lower lip to suppress a wide grin, you’re supposed to keep your seductive aura in front of him to not make him regret the position he’s gotten himself into. “Are you free tomorrow then?” you asked, feigning innocence as you traced a finger along his torso. He stared straight into your eyes for a moment and followed the patterns you draw against the material of his shirt. God, you’re liking the expression on his face.
It was his time to whisper in your ear now, earning a hitch in your breath because of your closeness. “How about we start being naked tonight and you can paint me nude tomorrow?”
“Well that’s the most sensible thing you ever said to me since we met.” you chuckled and grabbed his hand. “Let’s get out of here.”
The drive to your apartment was swift. All the while, Jinyoung was keeping a hand on your thighs, caressing it. You can’t believe you finally coaxed Jinyoung into being your nude model. All those weeks of pestering him were worth it, and now you even get to be laid by the gorgeous man on the driver’s seat. Is this what they call hitting two birds with one stone?
Jinyoung’s lips came crashing down yours as soon as you closed the door of your apartment behind you. He kissed you eagerly, one hand holding your cheek and the other hiking up the hem of your dress. He caressed the back of your thighs up and down repeatedly and he lingered a little too long at the place where your rear connected to your core. “Jinyoung~” you moaned against his mouth. You were reminded of the hot makeout session you both had in one of the college parties you attended. Why you hesitated to let this man take you before, you have no idea because right now all he makes you is wet and wanting for more.
You gasped for air when he momentarily left your mouth and shifted his attention to your neck, nipping and sucking as hard as he pleased. He pulled down the thin strap of your dress as soon as he reached your collarbone and you placed your arms around his neck as his hand continued to caress one of your thighs that is now leveraged around his waist. “Up,” he commanded and you let him scoop up your remaining leg that was still planted on the floor. You could feel his hardness poking at your core as you circle your legs around his waist being constrained in the material of his khakis. “Which door has the bed?” he asked as he pulled away from your skin.
You brushed your hair to one side of your shoulder as he walked across your place. “First door.” you murmured against his lips before unbuttoning his shirt and starting to kiss him again. You just can’t get enough of the taste of his luscious lips on yours, you can’t imagine how great it would feel if they are inside you. Just the thought of him in between your thighs sets your core ablaze.
As soon as you entered the bedroom, Jinyoung reached to your side, unzipping your flimsy party dress. He briefly set you down, letting your dress pool around your feet on the floor. You had to hold him by the shoulder because his ministrations have been sucking all your strength.
Jinyoung stared at your body, admiring how your breasts stood firm in front of him making his mouth water. “God, you’re beautiful, Y/N”. You flushed when you realized you were only wearing your panties while he’s still fully clothed in front of you.
“But this is unfair,” you muttered as you reached out to him to remove his dress shirt and you fumbled as you reached his belt because of the attention he’s now giving your two peaks. He kneads one with his hand and he takes another in his gorgeous mouth, sucking and circling and occasionally grazing his tongue around your nipples. “Fuck, Jinyoung.” you helplessly moaned loudly. This seemed to please Jinyoung even more as he started sucking your breasts a little harder while removing the last piece of clothing that was left of your body. You couldn’t take it anymore,
He set you on the bed and started giving sloppy kisses to your breasts as he fucks your core with his fingers. Looking down on him, you briefly realized that his previously neatly styled hair is now a mess because of all your pulling. Nonetheless, he looked nothing less than a sex god himself.
He then pulled on both of your legs and positioned his face in front of your throbbing core. You were dripping juices and Jinyoung looked at your sex hungrily. He stared directly into your eyes as he slightly blew hot air to your core. The sensation sent you over the moon. Jinyoung didn’t waste any time devouring your pussy, he started licking your folds making you throw your head back and hard against the pillows. You cannot help but buck your hips up to bring your core closer to his face. His tongue did wonderful to your sex and he’s hitting all the right places with his fingers inside you with an additional tingling from the tip of his nose that pokes your clit every once and a while.
Just when you’re about to get your release, he stops pumping his fingers into you, leaving you groaning in frustration. You didn’t realize when he got rid of his pants and undergarments until he grabbed a hold of his shaft and traced it between your folds, lubricating himself with your essence. You were a moaning mess, urging him to stop with the teasing and to take you already but he suddenly stopped moving.
You opened your eyes and saw his face so close to yours, his eyes searching for something in yours. Approval? You uncurled your fists and reached for either side of his face, about to kiss him to erase his doubts.
“Are you sure about this?” he asks you, slight hesitation evident in his eyes. How could he be such a gentleman when he could just fuck you senselessly right there and then and you wouldn’t even beg for him to stop.
“Yes. Take me, Jinyoung.” you breathed and he crashed his lips into yours. You smiled into his kiss, appreciating his gentleness until you feel him sheath himself inside of you. He let you adjust for him for a few seconds until you started to move your body, signaling him to join you in a rhythm only you could make out of your bodies.
His gentle thrusts soon got deeper and harder. Your toes curl with the sensation Jinyoung is able to give you and you fist your hand in the sheets and on the hair on his nape alternately. You were a moaning mess under him. With every thrust, he groaned into your neck and chanted your name like a prayer. He continued to bury himself into you until you finally clenched around him.
“Jinyoung, I- I’m c- close.” you stuttered.
He grunted and thrust deeper. “Cum for me, Y/N.”
You let go of your release and Jinyoung followed you shortly after. He continued moving inside you, both riding your highs.
Jinyoung collapsed on top of you without withdrawing himself. You are both panting and in a daze of what just happened. You felt Jinyoung kiss your shoulder and his dick twitched inside of you causing a short squeal from your hypersensitiveness.
“Oh my god, Park Jinyoung.” you stared at his face wide-eyed. You can’t believe he’s getting aroused again.
He chuckled and massaged your butt with his hands. “I guess you’ll be starting your requirement later than planned.”

THIRD PERSON POV
The afternoon continued with Y/N and Jinyoung discussing life and getting to know one another whilst Y/N replied to her emails.
“It’s mind b-boggling how you and J-Jackson may have crossed paths back in 2012…” Y/N had just mentioned how she was training for the London 2012 Olympics to compete for swimming.
“Similar to Jackson, I switched career paths and decided to study architecture. Dad wasn’t the biggest fan until he saw the passion and success I had gained in the industry. He soon came to terms with everything.”
“Wow… do you r-regret it at all?” The clock marked 10:30 pm. You guys had been talking for the past 90 mins, getting to know each other.
“I think I regretted not swimming after deciding to study architecture. I didn’t choose to not compete in the Olympics because I no longer liked swimming so I do regret not continuing although I must say, studying architecture might be the most time consuming degree out there. That’s why later on I decided to apply to become a licensed swimming teacher to undergo lessons. I’d be teaching people how to swim whilst fulfilling my love for swimming.”
“Best of both w-worlds, r-right?”
“Exactly.” Y/N had now placed all her work to aside with her back against the wall, legs crossed enveloped into the conversation.
Some seconds went by and Y/N wanted to know about Jinyoung’s initial dreams.
“What about you? Did you always want to be a singer?”
“Always. I took up d-dance lessons when I was around 15. Then went to a-audition and got in to JYPE. That was when I met J-Jaebeom. We actually d-debuted together as a d-duo group called JJProject to later on d-debut with the r-rest of the g-guys as GOT7. Since t-then they’ve been my f-family rather than just my m-members. I think it’s g-getting to the p-point where I might have spent m-more years of my l-life with them then I did without. Time flies…”
“I could definitely sense the brotherly love you guys all have for each other. So how did becoming an actor happen?”
“I r-requested from the c-company to find roles I could take part in a couple years b-back. First it was small roles in small d-dramas and then being c-casted by more known d-directors to p-play bigger roles. All of that has l-led me to play s-second male lead for ‘When My Love Blooms’.”
“When do the episodes start airing?” Y/N had grown eager about Jinyoung’s talents.
“Hold your h-horses… we haven’t e-even started f-filming yet and won’t be until I r-recover… The original airing d-dates will probably be p-pushed f-further.” Jinyoung’s words drifted into a sudden realisation for his career.
“If only-“ Y/N was about to blame herself again.
“We’ve been through this m-multiple times Y/N. None of this is your f-fault so s-stop blaming yourself for t-things you have no c-control over.”
Y/N had her mouth open ready to retaliate but if she had to be honest… she couldn’t be bothered to fight back considering it was now coming up to 11:00 pm.
“Fine.” Y/N yawned and covered her mouth. Work had been extremely busy today especially with all the news floating around now.
“S-someone’s tired.” Jinyoung eyed Y/N’s tired state and decided to call it a night.
“I still have so much to do. I can’t fall asleep now.”
“C-could you n-not spare an e-early n-night just for t-today?” Y/N recollected her thoughts weighing up if she could possibly sleep early tonight and get all the work done tomorrow.
“I could…”
“Problem s-solved then. Clear up your b-bed and get your pjs on. I d-don’t want to f-face a t-tired Y/N tomorrow m-morning.” Y/N eyed your mean comment and huffed to your orders.
“Yes, sir.”
2 WEEKS LATER
Y/N’s POV
“Miss, Jinyoung has been recovering quicker than expected. He should be perfectly fine to attend the event. If anything unsettling happens you can give me a direct phone call.”
“Thank you so much Doc.” You gave the doctor a large smile and she reciprocated a reassuring smile.
You entered Jinyoung’s room with your outfit for the architecture awards festival along with you.
“Am I allowed to come?” Jinyoung asked as soon as you entered the room. You gave him a nod.
Jinyoung’s voice was more or less back to 100% and his eye had completed healed by the end of last week. There wasn’t much left until being fully recovered. Possibly parting from the hospital quicker than the original 2 months the doctor had estimated.
“I knew I’d get the green light. I even prepared my outfit because I was so sure I’d be able to come.” You hadn’t seen someone so ecstatic for an awards festival.
“As expected… I’m not even surprised. Will you be able to get dressed? Need any of my help?” Jinyoung was still a little instable since he’s been lying in bed for the past 2 weeks. His legs tend to give out for the first 30 mins.
“I think I can manage. I’ll get dressed quickly and then the bathroom is all yours.” You chuckled at his assumption that you’ll take really long in the bathroom for the event.
Jinyoung heads towards the bathroom and you are left there practising a speech you’ve written for all the awards you and your company have been nominated. This isn’t because you knew you were going to win any of them but… the unprofessional scenes if you guys were to win an award and to not have a speech ready daunted you. There was nothing wrong with being prepared.
15 MINUTES LATER
You must say… I don’t think you had ever laid eyes on someone so handsome in your life before. You could swear that this man was carved by God himself.
“How much deeper are you going to fall into my looks?” You hadn’t realised but you had been staring Jinyoung up and down for the past 30 seconds of him leaving the bathroom. Hair all styled. The suit was literally made for him. His cute bow tie was a little wonky leading you to let out a chuckle.
“What?” Jinyoung’s face turned serious thinking something was wrong with how he looked.
“Your bowtie is wonky.” You stood up from your seat and reached out to fix his bowtie. Your eyes were fixated in straightening the bowtie and all Jinyoung could do was analyse your face and how focussed you were.
“There you go. Looks better now.” You lightly let go off the tie and looked up at Jinyoung who was already staring right back at you. Those bambi eyes were going to be the death of you.
“Thank you. Now go and get yourself ready.” He pinched your nose and then you entered the bathroom with your dress, makeup bag and accessories.
20 MINUTES LATER
“Jinyoung~~” You called out for Jinyoung. You were done with everything but couldn’t reach the zipper on the back of your dress. You had been procrastinating on what to do and just gave up. There’s no way you could zip the dress up alone.
“Yes, Y/N. Is everything alright?” You could hear his footsteps come closer to the bathroom door.
“In a bit of sticky situation… could I ask you to do a favour?”
“Sure, what is it?” You went ahead and unlocked the door for him. He took a step back and couldn’t contain the sight in front of him. You were in a red bandeau strapless dress which had a structured skirt that was shorter at the front and longer at the back with. A very slight trail. Unsurprisingly your makeup was the bare minimum and you had left your natural hair out. His mouth was agape as you stepped out of the bathroom.
“How much longer are you going to stare for Mr Park?” He had been in the same awe you was when he had stepped out of the bathroom earlier on.
“Yes…right… the favour?” His soul re-entered his body trying to compose himself. You could only smile on the effect you had on the prince himself.
“I can’t reach my zipper, could you zip up the back of my dress for me?” You saw his cheeks blush a light pink below the thin layer of bb cream he had on. Without the zip done neither of you were going anywhere so he had to do it.
He wasn’t able to give a verbal response and just nodded. You turned around to have your back facing Jinyoung. He moved your hair to aside exposing half of your back to him. He was blushing so hard right now and was happy to have you facing away from him even though in a matter of seconds you’d be facing him seeing the shades of red planted on his cheeks. Jinyoung gently placed one hand on the zipper and the other hand on your back holding the fabric of your dress still. His fingers grazed your skin and they were a little cold leading you to jolt a little by the surprising cool touch. He notices.
“Did I hurt you?” His voice was a little worried. The slightest worrying reaction you make, and he’s so concerned. He’s too sweet.
“Nope, your hands are just a little cold that’s all.” You say whilst you chuckle.
He apologises with his soothing voice and zips up the dress, letting out a quiet done when finished.
You turn back round and thank him for his kind gesture. You also noticed the flush of his cheeks. He’s so cute, you thought. You quickly put your heels on and left Jinyoung’s patient room and entered the hall of the hospital. Expectedly, you guys received some stares and some whistles by the old women sitting outside their patient rooms. The event manager had organised a limousine to pick up each nominee for the awards hence why there was a lovely jet black limousine parked at the entrance of the hospital. The driver spotted you two and guided you the way and kept the door open for you two to enter the fancy vehicle. He ran back to the wheel and started driving towards the venue.
“Anything I need to know beforehand? Who should I present myself as?” Jinyoung had started with the questions during the car drive.
“Who’d you like to present yourself as Jinyoung?” You wanted to fish out his intentions from him.
“Preferably your boyfriend in order to stop those punks from hitting on you but I’d never want to force you into a relationship with me…” He side eyed you as he kept looking out the window. You so wanted him to be your boyfriend.
“Logical. Agreed. If anyone asks, you’re my boyfriend.”
“What an honour.” You slap his thigh due to his sarcastic tone.
“Whatttt? I’m serious. I’m going to be the boyfriend of an amazingly talented architect who’s bound to receive an award tonight. It’s a genuine privilege.” You could only look at him in awe as he described the so called ‘privilege’ he was taking part of.
“If you say so…”
The humming noise from the motor of the limousine was really calming but Jinyoung broke the silence once again.
“Are you nervous?” His tone was much deeper and serious compared to how he was a second ago.
“A little. These awards happen once a year and we’ve progressed so much as a company but so has everyone else in the industry. It’s hard to tell if we’ll be receiving the major validation from the institute. With or without the award tonight I’m so pleased with my company, but it would be nice to get a recognisable achievement for all our hard work.” Jinyoung listened to you as you let out your insecurities for the upcoming night.
“In the little amount of time I’ve met you, I think you’re the only person who deserves all the awards you’ve been nominated for this year. No one can change my thoughts and it’s going to be a pleasure to witness your achievement first hand. I can’t wait.” He rubbed his thumb over your knuckles trying to calm your nerves down. It was going to be a long night.
30 MINUTES LATER
Your limousine had rocked up to the red carpet laid out on the floor outside of the venue of the awards. You took a deep breath as the driver ran around to Jinyoung’s side of the limousine to let him out. Jinyoung agreed to open your door for you so he exited the vehicle first. Like he had planned, he went around to your side and opened the door for you to step out. The cameras started capturing every single moment as you wrapped your arm around Jinyoungs, and he gave you a reassuring nod. You gave him a smile and the two of you walked towards the entrance of the building slowly as you waved to the cameras and press greeting the two of you. The cameras were close to blinding, but you pulled through until reaching the entrance where the bodyguard escorted the two of you to your spaces in the main hall.
The building was full of white and gold decorations. You could definitely tell that the theme was highly influenced by Greek culture. The budget of the awards keep growing as the number of sponsors increase. The bodyguard escorted you to the table that Beck was already sat at with his fiancé. Beck realised your presence as well as Jinyoung. He stood up to give you a hug and shook Jinyoung’s hand. Beck’s fiancé shook both of your hands too and took your seats.
“The famous Mr Park. It’s nice to meet you in person. I’m Beck, the other shareholder.” Beck gave Jinyoung a warm smile.
“It’s nice to meet you to Beck. It seems like you already know of my name, but I’ll reiterate for the norm. My name is Park Jinyoung, you can call me just Jinyoung.” You let out a scoff because of how formal Jinyoung was being with Beck.
“He’s younger than you so you can ignore the formalities.” You said to Jinyoung and then Beck and him opened the conversation about age and their Chinese zodiac signs.
The evening began at 7:30 pm with the award winners due to be announced at 9:00 pm. Until then there was butterflies in your stomach ready to be set free any minute now.
Jinyoung came closer to your ear and whispered, “Loosen up a little. There’s no need to be this tense. Here hold my hand.”
Jinyoung offered his hand and you took it immediately as he gestured his open palm. Your hands were tiny compared to his manly hands. They encompassed all your digits giving you’re a sigh of relief because of the security they exerted. You let out a large sigh and continued with the discussions on your table with the new clients that were interested in your company. Having Jinyoung at the event really helped scare away the useless men who would only be interested in your physique and nothing more. His presence filtered out all the nonsense that would usually be taking place at the table.
The clock finally struck 9:00 pm and everyone went back to their designated seats in order for the awards to be presented. The event holder went through all the minor rookie awards to then move onto the company categories.
“Here are the nominees for Best Project of the Year.” The event holder signalled to the larger screen behind him as the nominees including your company are mentioned in no specific order.
“I was personally really fond of this project myself too. The meaning behind the design and the immense detail put into the façade really makes me excited for the future of this company. I’ll stop blabbing on and open the envelope.” You looked at Beck and then back at Jinyoung who was really eager to know the result.
“The award for Best Project of the Year goes to…” The event holder lifts the flap of the envelope and takes out the white sheet of paper inside. You hold your breath waiting for the result to be spoken.
“The Chamberlain project, designed and constructed by Chevrel Architects.” The whole community around your table started roaring and cheering for you and Beck to claim the award. That was one award written down in the books for Chevrel Architects, a company you and Beck had started years back. You and Beck had decided that if this award was given to you guys then he’d give the speech for it. Beck was the reason for the Chamberlain project happening and hands down you could state it was because of him the project turned out well. You, Jinyoung and everyone else in the hall stood up clapping as Beck walked up to the stage and shook hands with the event holder along with receiving the award. He then walked up to the mic and started his speech.
“I’d like to first start off with a large thank you to everyone at Chevrel Architects. The amount of hard work that was put into the Chamberlain project is indescribable, without everyone’s help it wouldn’t have been possible to achieve such a great outcome. I’d like to also thank Y/N for coming on this journey with me and trusting in me when I said that this company will create its own legacy. This is only the beginning…” Beck continued to thank more or less everyone he knew and came to an end with another roaring applause by everyone.
He jogged back to your table and you admired the award he placed on the table. You felt Jinyoung squeeze your hand in encouragement for you to realise how much you guys are capable of although he still knew you were a little iffy because the individual architect awards hadn’t been announced yet. You couldn’t help but smile at the gleaming object right before your eyes. Having received this award you doubted that another award would be given to someone of the same company.
Minutes went by and the event holder had reached the most awaited award of the night. Architect of the Year. You were surprised that you hadn’t left to use the restroom to throw up all this anxiety already. You were so ready to go home and relax. You wanted your normal heart rate back. You looked at Jinyoung and he gave you a look that melted your heart in seconds. He started massaging your knuckles with his thumb again and you could feel your body ease into his touch. The event holder for the last time of the night directs our attention to the screen for the listing of the nominees. Beck unfortunately wasn’t nominated so he was rooting for you to win the award.
“I know for many of you this is probably the most important part of the night. I’d like to first mention that to be able to be nominated for this award is ana achievement in itself so, you architects should all be proud of yourselves. It was a very hard decision that the committee made but we were able to make a decision. The award for Architect of the Year goes to…”

Phoenix Aurora Chapter 3 (Got7 Jinyoung X OC)
For a long moment, the entire main hall was completely silent. Court officials stared at each other, as did the other princes besides Jinyoung and Jaebeom.
Had they just heard her right?
The Empress had chosen not one the princes that were known for their swordsmanship or their archery abilities, nor had she chosen any of the princes that had already made a name for themselves in court.
Instead, she had chosen the gentle, scholarly Fifth Prince?
Jinyoung stared at the Empress, shocked to the core. He was the last person he had ever expected her to choose. Surely, she had made a mistake. Too much alcohol perhaps? And yet, here she was, standing right in front of him with a small smile on her face that made it clear there would be no questioning her choice. For once, even the king was flabbergasted.
“Your Majesty...what did you just say?” He asked. Jang Soyoung turned and looked at him, an unperturbed smile on her face.
“I said,” She replied, “I would like to marry the fifth prince, Park Jinyoung.” Her dark, steady gaze narrowed, sending a shiver down Jinyoung’s back.
“I do not wish to repeat myself a second time.” She added firmly. The king slowly composed himself and then hesitated before speaking.
“But Your Majesty…” He said carefully, “Jinyoung is...simply a scholarly boy. He is intelligent, that is true, but he is neither an experienced politician nor a brilliant fighter. Why do you want to marry him?” Jang Soyoung thought for a moment before smirking.
“That is true.” She said, “He is none of the things that someone would expect to see in a person I choose to be prince consort. However…” She reached up and tapped her head.
“I do not need a warrior as a husband.” She stated, “If that was the case, I would have married someone from Yuan and arranged for a union between our countries a different way. What I need is someone with his intelligence, who can stand by my side with unwavering loyalty. Park Jinyoung has exactly what I need.” Jinyoung shot a pleading look at Jaebeom, and then his father, but he could tell that both were at a loss. It was clear the Empress had already made up her mind. There was nothing that could be done.
“King of Goryeo.” Jang Soyoung raised an eyebrow, “I recognize he is one of your two precious sons born of the late queen. However, you cannot coddle him within the Goryeo boundaries forever.” The king swallowed hard and slowly nodded.
“I understand.” He said, “If it is Jinyoung that Your Majesty wishes to marry, then it will happen. I am sure he will live a good life in Yuan.” Jang Soyoung smiled and bowed politely.
“Of course.” She replied, “I thank you, King of Goryeo, for allowing me to marry your precious son.” Jinyoung fell back into his chair, his legs going weak.
It was the most impossible of results, and yet, here it was.
He was going to marry the Empress of Yuan.
____________________________________________________________________________
The rest of the banquet passed by without any issues, but Jinyoung barely noticed time going by. Although bewildered by the whole mess, the court officials came to congratulate him on the upcoming marriage. Jaebeom, thankfully, moved quickly to intercede the cups of wine offered from the court officials, allowing Jinyoung to think through the matters with a clear mind.
The more Jinyoung thought about it, the more the whole matter didn’t make sense to him. What had the Empress seen in him? What had he done that had caught her attention by the time half the banquet was over, that had made her so certain she wanted to marry him? No, it couldn’t possibly be based on the banquet alone. The way the empress looked at him, the certain smile on her face...it all made Jinyoung think back to the girl at the teahouse earlier that day. And so, as the banquet came to a close and the guests retired to their rooms, Park Jinyoung made up his mind.
Sitting here wondering isn’t going to get me any answers.
After asking around for a short while, Jinyoung made his way directly to the Empress’s guest chambers. Unfortunately, he was promptly blocked at the door by two guards, who refused to move even when he made his identity clear.
“What’s going on?” Her voice, the clear authoritative tone, rose from inside the closed doors. Glaring at the guards, Jinyoung called out loudly in response.
“The Fifth Prince Park Jinyoung requests an audience with Her Majesty!” He called out. There was a long silence, then a soft laugh came from inside.
“Let him in.”
The guards promptly moved aside, and Jinyoung swiftly made his way inside the guest chambers. He didn’t think of himself as a rash person; growing up in the palace had taught him to think three times before he did anything. But this time, he needed answers, and he wasn’t going to stop until he got them when his future was on the line.
He could see the Empress sitting on her bed behind a delicate paper screen as he entered, and he promptly stopped in his tracks to maintain propriety.
“My apologies, Your Majesty.” Jinyoung said quickly, “I did not realize you were preparing for bed.” Her soft laugh, like windchimes blowing in the night breeze, fluttered from behind the screen.
“Not to worry, Fifth Prince.” She replied, “I was simply preparing for a night walk through the palace. However, it seems like you have an urgent matter you need to discuss with me.” Jinyoung hesitated for a brief moment, then charged forward with his question.
“My apologies if I am being too frank.” He said, “But why does Your Majesty want to marry me?” There was a brief moment of silence, and then the empress laughed again. Slowly, she rose from her seat and stepped out from behind the thin paper screen. Jinyoung stared for a brief moment, a hot flush rising to his cheeks. In the short time since the banquet had ended, the empress had changed into a thinner lilac and white gown, one far simpler than the elaborate dress she had worn for the banquet. The silky fabric fell smoothly down her body, hugging her waist and showing off her well toned figure. The elaborate headdress had be replaced instead with soft purple flowers and two intricate hairpieces that matched her dress. It was far from a nightgown, and she had pulled a cloak on over the dress, but Jinyoung had never been this close with a woman dressed in anything short of full formal attire.
“Is that all this is about?” Empress Soyoung asked, drawing Jinyoung out of his daze, “You rushed all the way into an unmarried woman’s room late at night to ask something I already answered?” Jinyoung cleared his throat loudly in an attempt to clear his mind.
“That is...I need more answers than that.” He said, “Your Majesty, as my father said, I am neither a warrior nor a politician. I cannot help you in your conquests nor can I help you in court. What is it that you like about me?” The Empress tilted her head slightly and looked at him for a long moment before smiling ever so slightly.
“Indeed, you are not a warrior.” She replied, “But I am. A warrior doesn’t need a warrior by her side. To put two strong warriors together only calls for disaster. And if you want to learn, I can still teach you in the future.”
“But I am not well versed in Yuan politics, nor do I know anything about Yuan that would be helpful as prince consort!” Jinyoung protested. The Empress laughed and stepped closer to him, and on instinct, Jinyoung took another step back.
“You will learn quickly.” She replied, “You are an intelligent man, are you not?”
“I’m only a scholar!” Jinyoung countered, “Simply a scholar! I’d rather spend my entire day sitting and reading in the library!” Empress Soyoung chuckled and shook her head.
“Fifth Prince, do not underestimate yourself so much.” She said, “You are not simply a scholar. You are observant, careful, astute, and think quickly on your feet. Those are the qualities that I need in a husband.” Something cold bumped up against Jinyoung’s back, and with a start he realized that at some point, he had backed directly into the cold stone wall that lined the guest chambers. He spluttered for something to say as Jang Soyoung gazed intently at him.
“Is there anything else you would like to ask, Fifth Prince?” She asked coolly, seemingly unperturbed by the fact that they were merely inches apart. Jinyoung swallowed hard, his throat going dry.
“I barely said a word all night.” He said, “How did Your Majesty see all those qualities in me?” The Empress raised an eyebrow, then laughed at the question. Jinyoung gulped as she stretched out her hand next to him and pressed it against the wall behind him, bringing her even closer to the young prince’s face.
“Whoever said this was the first time we met?” She replied, “Little poet.” Jinyoung’s eyes widened as he took in what she was saying.
So I wasn’t imagining that deja vu!
“Your Majesty...you...you were at the teahouse?” He spluttered, “What were you doing there?” The corner of Jang Soyoung’s lips turned up in a small smirk, and suddenly Jinyoung felt once again like he was watching a little wildcat.
And once again, the cat’s target was him.
“Did Your Highness not say that I would only choose the best to be my other half?” She responded instead, “Then trust that you are the best, and stop asking so many questions.” His heart hammering in his chest at their proximity, Jinyoung could only nod.
“Y-yes. I understand.” He spluttered, at a loss for words. On his way here, he had thought of a hundred different arguments to convince the empress not to marry him. But no matter what he said, she had an immediate counterargument to stop him in his tracks.
The message was clear: Jang Soyoung was not taking no for an answer.
Sensing there was nothing more he could say, Jang Soyoung pulled away at last.
“If Your Highness is finished, I will be taking my walk now.” She declared, and walked out of the guest chambers as if nothing had ever happened. Jinyoung watched her go, his jaw dropping as he slowly took in all that had just happened.
Just what is this woman?
____________________________________________________________________________
“Just who is this woman?” Jinyoung’s angry voice echoed across the room as he paced across the Crown Prince’s chambers, his hands clasped tightly behind his back.
“Just what sort of woman is she?” He said to no one in particular, “I couldn’t get in a single word with her! I’ve never seen a woman this stubborn, this intent on one thing before! What am I, her prey? What sort of woman just declares someone is going to be her husband and expects him to accept it!” Jaebeom chuckled and rose to his feet, his gentle hands pulling Jinyoung to a stop.
“Brother, brother, calm down.” He said, “You are going to wear a hole in the floor at this rate.” Jinyoung huffed angrily.
“Hyung-nim!” He protested, “I don’t want to marry her!”
“I know, I know.” Jaebeom said soothingly, “But if she is the girl from the tea house, didn’t you find her intriguing?” Jinyoung huffed again.
“That was then, and this is now!” He stated, “I found her straightforwardness interesting, and at that point she did pose a fun challenge to me. But this is completely different! Just because I found that one experience interesting doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind marrying her!” Jaebeom patted Jinyoung on the shoulder gently.
“I know, I know.” He said again, “You like to take things slowly when it comes to women. To have someone just walk up and declare you will marry her is completely opposite to what you wanted.”
“Exactly!” Jinyoung replied with a little angry stomp on the floor.
“But think about it this way,” Jaebeom said, “Perhaps she is precisely the type of woman you need. She is the complete opposite of you, but sometimes that is the best pairing someone can ask for.”
“No!” Jinyoung insisted with a growl, “I know she isn’t the right match for me! And now I’m going to have to spend the rest of my life in a different country with a woman I couldn’t possibly love!” Jaebeom clapped a hand over Jinyoung’s mouth, his gentle gaze narrowing in a second.
“Quiet.” He scolded, “Don’t let anyone hear you say that. Everyone of course acknowledges you and the empress don’t love each other, but who knows what trouble will be created if you say it that loudly?” Of course Jinyoung understood what his brother was talking about. There was no way he and the empress felt anything for each other, but if he made it too obvious, it would become a weakness for others to exploit for their ulterior motives. Who knew what rumors would start spreading if he was too vocal about the matter? It was safest to keep his head down and follow the prearranged path.
Like it or not, he would have to go to Yuan.
“Look at things this way, Brother.” Jaebeom suggested, ‘It could be much worse. At the very  least, you must admit she is beautiful.” Jinyoung thought for a moment about the comment, and had to admit the Crown Prince was right. Slowly, he found his mind wandering back to the way he had seen Jang Soyoung last, dressed in a soft lilac dress with flowers in her hair. If he hadn’t known better, he would have thought she was a nobleman’s daughter who had befriended one of his sisters. Somehow, his mind also wandered back to the way she had leaned close to him, her face inches from him as she spoke, the soft scent of floral perfume floating off her long flowing hair as her pink lips turned up slightly in the faintest of smiles…
“Jinyoung?” Jaebeom’s voice drew him back to the present, and he blinked in confusion as he saw his brother staring at him.
“What?” He asked, realizing he had frozen in place.
“You’re blushing.” Jaebeom replied, poking at Jinyoung’s cheeks, “Are you thinking of the empress?” Jinyoung cleared his throat and turned away in embarrassment, flapping a hand at his cheeks at a futile attempt to calm himself.
Where is my mind going?
“So what if she’s beautiful?” He replied, trying to pull the conversation back on track, “It doesn’t mean I’ll have to like her.” Jaebeom chuckled knowingly.
“So you were thinking of the empress.” He affirmed, playfully giving him a shove on the shoulder. Jinyoung huffed, feeling his cheeks grow hot again.
“That’s enough for tonight!” He declared, “I’m tired! I’m going to bed!” With that, Jinyoung rushed out of the Crown Prince’s quarters before Jaebeom could say anything, and hurried off into the night.

Elsewhere, Jang Soyoung stood in the royal garden, her hands trailing lightly over a large pink flower that glimmered in the moonlight.
“My Lady.” Hyojun said quietly from her side, but didn’t say anything else. Jang Soyoung smiled faintly.
“Go ahead and ask.” She said, “You also want to know why I chose the Fifth Prince, don’t you?”
“Indeed, My Lady.” Hyojun replied, “He is the most unassuming prince, the one few people think of as being a powerful player in court. Don’t you need someone strong and powerful to stay by your side?” Soyoung smiled and tsked softly.
“Hyojun, I thought you, out of all people, would understand my choice.” She said. Hyojun dipped his head.
“I’m sorry, My Lady.” He said quietly. Soyoung laughed softly and shook her head.
“It is because he is unassuming, it is because he is the least likely choice that I chose him.” She replied, “All the court officials were constantly wondering who I would pick as prince consort, wondering which powerful player I would bring into the fight to hold onto my throne. You know they were all preparing to fight against the strongest possible player I could have chosen. And yet, Park Jinyoung is someone they are not prepared to face. His strengths lie not in his backing, or his physical strength, but in his intellect. And that is something nobody but himself can control. That is the type of man I need by my side.” A smile turned up the corner of her lips as she continued walking.
“And besides...he is the first person to have held my attention for so long.” Soyoung mused softly, “The way he speaks, the way he recites his poems, the way he smiles...I’ve never been so attracted to one man before.”
“My Lady holds affection for the Fifth Prince already?” Hyojun asked, sounding skeptical. Soyoung laughed and poked her guard lightly on the forehead.
“Look at you, speaking as if you have so much experience with love.” She teased, then shook her head.
“It is too soon to say if there is affection.” She said, “Rather, right now I’d say if I need someone from Goryeo to stand by my side for the rest of my life, I wouldn’t mind it being him.” Hyojun didn’t respond, and Soyoung turned to see her guard looking perplexed. Shaking her head, knowing that he hadn’t quite followed, she turned back and continued on her way through the royal garden. Her mind wandered back to the Fifth Prince’s wide eyed gaze as she leaned closer to him in her chambers, her eyes narrowed and making it clear she was not going to be accepting any of his protests. His cheeks had been flushed, giving off an impression of an innocent puppy. Holding back a soft laugh, Soyoung smiled as she continued on her walk.
How cute.

The days between the Empress’s announcement and the day Jinyoung would depart for Yuan with her went by in the blink of an eye, and before he knew it, he was standing outside the palace as the servants loaded the last of their luggage into one of the caravans. Jinyoung gazed up at the palace he had spent his entire life living in. He had never imagined one day that he would be married out of the palace, much less marrying off to a country far away. All of a sudden, he understood how foreign princesses felt in the moments before they left their home to be married to princes and emperors in other countries. Swallowing hard, he turned and looked at his father and brothers, who had come to send him off along with Yugyeom and Youngjae.
“Father, please take care of yourself.” He said, “I will write home often.” The king nodded and squeezed Jinyoung on the shoulder.
“Take care of yourself in Yuan.” He said, “Remember that you are a foreigner in their country. You must acclimate yourself to their rules and way of life as quickly as possible.” Jinyoung nodded.
“I will do my best to maintain peace between our countries.” He assured.
“Write to me if you need anything.” Jaebeom said, “I will try my best to answer you quickly.” Jinyoung nodded.
“Please take care of yourself, hyung-nim.” He said, “I leave Father in your care.” Jinyoung took a few steps back, then dipped into a formal bow, his hands trembling slightly as they touched the warm stone ground in front of him.
“I will not disappoint you, Father, Brother.” He promised. Jinyoung rose to his feet, turned, and entered the carriage that was waiting for him. Normally, he would have chosen to ride on a horse, but the journey to the center of Yuan territory was too time consuming and arduous to complete on horseback. Empress Soyoung was already waiting for him inside the carriage, having said her goodbyes to the king before Jinyoung. Dressed in a light aqua green dress, she was the epitome of calm and poise, her slender fingers holding a book calmly in front of her. Jinyoung knew, however, that she hadn’t truly been reading while he said his goodbyes.
“Were you eavesdropping?” He asked.
“And if I was?” She replied coolly, “Even if I tried, I couldn’t have avoided hearing things.”
“Are you always this calm with everything?” Jinyoung asked, unable to hold back his curiosity, “You are currently sitting in a carriage with a man you’ve barely known for more than a week.” Jang Soyoung’s gaze rose lightly above the top edge of her book, her dark gaze sending a slight shiver down Jinyoung’s back. The look in her eyes made it clear she would tolerate no nonsense.
“As opposed to what?” She replied, “Gushing like a child over your goodbyes with your family? Squealing over how excited I am about the upcoming wedding? Park Jinyoung, I am not your average woman.”
“That’s not what I meant-” Jinyoug began, but cut off as he heard Im Hyojun, the empress’s personal guard that he had seen at the teahouse and the banquet, call out from his place at the front of the group of travelers.
“Set off!” He called, and the carriage jolted slightly as the horses began moving. Jinyoung quickly pulled back the curtain covering the window in the side of the carriage, and waved to his friends and family as the carriage pulled away. Jang Soyoung sighed as the carriage turned the corner and the castle disappeared into the distance.
“It’s not like you won’t see them again.” She said, “You’re acting like it’s the end of the world.” Jinyoung glanced over at her, but bit his tongue to keep himself from lashing out at the empress.
It’s easy for her to say! She’s not the one who’s marrying into a foreign nation!
“You can come back to Goryeo once a year to visit if you’d like.” The empress stated suddenly, startling Jinyoung from his thoughts. He frowned and peered suspiciously at the empress.
“Really?” He asked. Jang Soyoung scoffed softly, closing the book in her hands with a soft thwack.
“I am not a tyrant, Park Jinyoung.” She said firmly, “You are going to be my husband, not an exotic pet I have to keep locked up. I have no reason to keep you separated from your family forever.” Jinyoung hesitated for a moment, then nodded slightly.
“Thank you.” He said begrudgingly, “Truly.”
“Mm.” Jang Soyoung replied. The engaged couple sat for a few moments in awkward silence before the empress reached for a stack of papers that had been sitting next to her and handing them to Jinyoung.
“Here. Read these on our way to the capital.” She said. Jinyoung looked at the papers skeptically.
“What are they?” He asked.
“Some basic information about our court, the names and pictures of the highest ranking court officials and information about them, the most important members of the royal family, and things like that.” Jang Soyoung replied, “It’s all information that will be useful in the future.” Jinyoung raised an eyebrow.
“You want me to have all of this down by the time we get to Yuan?” He asked, “Do you realize that this is information you spent your life learning?” Jang Soyoung smiled, fixing her unwavering gaze on him.
“You are the most intelligent man in Goryeo.” She said, “Surely you can learn it all, right?” Jinyoung swallowed hard, then bit back the protests that were rising in his chest. In the blink of an eye, the empress had managed to put his reputation and intelligence on the line, all based on a stack of flimsy paper! If he didn’t manage to even memorize such basic information, both he and Goryeo would surely lose face.
“Fine.” He said, “Very well.” The couple sat in silence as they traveled, the only sound in the carriage the sound of pages flipping as Jinyoung read through the materials the empress had given him. His fingers stilled as he reached the middle of the stack, his gaze pausing on the person drawn on the paper. The person was an austere looking man with cold serious eyes, his lips pressed together in a thin line that gave off the impression of being cold and ruthless. Jinyoung’s gaze traveled over to the name written on the side of the paper.
Temur Qayisan...Korean name Jang Jaewon.
Jang Soyoung looked over as she noticed Jinyoung’s fingers still, and scoffed softly.
“I see you’ve found my Uncle, the Grand Preceptor.” She stated. Jinyoung raised an eyebrow as he looked at her.
“Your Uncle?” He repeated.
“Mm.” The empress replied, “Do me a favor and try to stay away from him.” Jinyoung frowned in confusion.
“But why?” He asked, “I’ve long heard that he is a powerful player in court.” Jang Soyoung looked thoughtful for a moment before smiling mysteriously and simply shaking her head.
“Just...avoid him if you can.” She repeated. Jinyoung looked back down at the drawing in his hand, confused as ever about what the empress was talking about.
Jang Jaewon...just who are you?

Khanbaliq, Yuan Territory
The sound of birds chirping could be heard in the royal garden of the Mongol palace. The soft sounds of the rushing man made stream bubbled in the air, the soft spots of color that were butterflies dancing across the carefully tended flowers. In a pavilion near the middle of the royal garden, a tall man in mahogany red robes stood watching over the scene, his hands clasped behind his back. As he stood  there, a figure dashed up to him and bowed.
“News has just arrived.” The newcomer said, “The empress is on her way back from Goryeo, and she is bringing one of the princes with her.” The man in the pavilion chuckled softly.
“So one of the Goryeo boys did catch her eye after all.” He said, “Find out which prince she is going to marry. I need complete information on the future prince consort.”
“Yes Sir!” The soldier said, and dashed off into the distance. As the man left, Jang Jaewon smiled ever so slightly.
Little niece...I wonder which prince managed to catch your eye.

I will always worried about you, Idiot.
Tumblr media
"Hey baby girl," His husky voice came up from your phone. "Have you eaten yet?" You immediately asked him, didn't bother to greet him back.
You heard him chuckling over the phone, "Woah, straight to the point, huh?"
"You didn't answer my question." You said back at him but you pouted a little, realizing your mistake. "Come on, I need to know. Have you eaten yet?"
"Yes, I have. And the food is delicious." He answered with a sassy tone on his voice. It was silent at first but then you spoke with a disappointed tone, "You're lying."
Mark sighed. Lying to his girlfriend and hoping to get away with it.
Since you found out that he had lost weight, you always remind him to eat.
Him being an idol is not easy at all. He has to sacrifice a lot to become one. Being an idol also means that he has to look flawless as a man. When he receives so many comments about him being fat, he feels that he need to lose some weight. But of course, you think differently.
Mark already does sport and dances, he already looked fit. Losing weight will make him look skinny and lifeless. Not to mention, you worry about his health.
You want to smack every person who said Mark was fat. Because... come on? Him? Fat? It doesn't make any sense. These people really need to check their eyes.
"I'm sorry but I promise to do it later," Mark tried to console you but you ask him back immediately, "When is later?"
"After practice?" Mark hesitantly said which made you grumble. "I don't know, but I promise I will!"
You gritted your teeth, "You better. Don't make me come over there and force you to swallow every food I could find from there."
Instead of receiving an agreement from him, you hear his beautiful laugh. "I'm serious, Mark." You said to him while trying not to smile.
"Of course you do, baby," Mark said still chuckling. "Is this the reason why you called me? Just checking me if I already ate or not?"
You frowned in disappointment, "Well, no. I, I have bad news."
Usually, when GOT7 has a schedule to perform, you would always be there to watch and support them, especially Mark. But this time, you can't. Due to many works that needed to be done, you forgot to order the ticket before it sold out.
"What is it?"
"I can't watch you perform this time," You sighed while running your fingers through your hair. "Well, I can watch it on TV but I can't come over to the concert. You know what I mean."
Hearing him sigh over the phone, you quickly explain your situation. "It slipped off my mind! I-I got really focused on finishing my work and when I remember about the concert, the ticket was already sold! I am so sorry, Mark. I really do--"
Mark soothing voice came up, "Y/N, It's totally fine. You don't have to come every time I perform on stage. I know you have works to do. Besides, maybe you are already bored with the repeated song."
"I will never get bored if you're the one who performs." You admitted sweetly, "I could listen to your repeated voice every day and never get bored of it."
Your boyfriend chuckles and you could imagine his smile over the phone, "You are so cute."
"I agree." You sassily answered which made him laugh. "I'm really sorry though."
Over the phone, Mark bit his lip to hide his smile. His girlfriend is really a caring and supportive person. That is something that will always amaze him. "It's okay."
The conversation between you continues on. Sharing laughs and jokes over the phone makes you want to go to the concert and see him directly. You haven't seen him for three days but you know the wait will be worth it.
Before the conversation ended, you quickly remind him. "Don't forget to eat and don't forget to bring your jacket and your heat packs. I don't want a freezing boyfriend, okay? You will be uncomfortable to cuddle. I also don't want you to pass out, it will be too much to handle."
You could sense him rolling his eyes playfully, "Yeah, yeah. You worry too much."
"I will always worry about you, idiot."
Two days later, after finishing some work at your office, you hurriedly pack your things. The show will start for an hour and you don't want to miss GOT7 performance. Some of your things fell from your desk, which made you curse loudly.
You immediately went down under the desk to pick them before one of your coworkers enters your office. "Hey Y/N, some of us want to grab something to eat. Wanna come?"
Accidentally hitting your head with the desk, the coworker giggled. "Why such a hurry?"
"Sorry, I can't come. Mark is performing tonight and I am late." You said while tidying your desk once more.
"But I thought you didn't get the ticket?"
You smiled mischievously, "I could watch it on TV, couldn't I?" The coworker smiled knowingly, nodding understandably before leaving you alone.
When you are home, the Mnet show is in a few minutes. You literally dumped everything on the floor and turn on the TV before sitting down comfortably on your couch. You sighed in relief when you realized you are not late, the show has just started.
The song 'Lullaby' started and you snickered when Jaebum smirked at the camera. You smiled widely when Mark's part came but the smile vanishes as you noticed his condition. He's wearing makeup of course but you know him. You could tell that the makeup covered his eye bags. And... Does he look paler?
Your eye twitches in irritation. Mark is not keeping his promises, not yet maybe. Your eyes quickly noticed everything that is wrong with Mark. His response is a little bit slow and his movements are not as energic as usual. His balance was also a little bit off.
Your irritation turns into concern. He looks like he's going to pass out.
"Oh Mark, please be careful." You mumbled to no one as you continue to watch over him performs.
The complicated dance that Mark always complains of came and it made you sit on the edge of your couch. You intently watch over Mark although the screen keeps turns to record each member.
When the music ends, you sighed in relief. Mark has done the performance smoothly although you tried to ignore the view when Mark fully leaned on Jaebum at the end of the performance.
"Please be alright, please be alright." You grabbed your phone and decided to call him. Waiting for a few minutes, you then dialed him.
The answering machine tells you that Mark is not picking up his phone. You decided to call him once again, the result is still the same.
You tried to call the other members and sighed in relief when Jinyoung answered. "Jinyoung? Hi, uh, I just want to know if Mark's okay?"
When Jinyoung didn't answer your question right away, you knew something's wrong with Mark. "What happened?"
"He passed out in the backstage." Your face immediately went pale and your blood runs cold, He.. hasn't woke up." Jinyoung replied calmly although you knew he was worried sick about his hyung.
"Have you called 911?" You started to rush here and there, gathering your stuff and get ready to got wherever Mark is.
"The medic is here. They're checking him in the other room right now, that's all I could tell you." Jinyoung sighed worriedly, "Are you coming?"
"Of course I am," You accidentally snapped but immediately apologize, "Sorry, I'm just--"
Jinyoung, who has known you since you're dating Mark, understands your attitude and automatically forgives you, "I know. Get here quick and be careful."
"Ma'am, you can't go there." A bodyguard pushed you back when you tried to enter the backstage.
You smacked his hands away from your body before setting a glare on him, "My boyfriend is in there, you have to let me in!"
"Yeah, everybody says that." The man said, looking bored, "Now, please go away."
"Are you serious?" You snapped at him and stayed on your ground, "I'm not some crazy fan that trying to enter and jumped on some artists! My boyfriend, Mark, is sick inside! He needs me!"
The bodyguard looked annoyed by now and started to push you back again, "You won't fool me. Now, before I dragged your ass from here, you should leave. Now."
"My ass won't go anywhere but inside," You spat the words back to the man. You tried to go past him but failed to do so as he grabbed your shoulders and started to drag you out from the place.
"Stop!" A familiar voice made the bodyguard stop and looked back to that voice owner.
"Let her go," Jackson said to the bodyguard. When the latter didn't move, Jackson repeat rather harshly, "I said, let her go."
When the bodyguard obeyed, you can't help but say, "Asshole."
Before the man could say anything, you went inside with Jackson on your side.
"How is he?" you asked Jackson while your eyes look every inch of the place, trying to locate your boyfriend.
"Still unconscious," Jackson sighed worriedly, "The medic said that his blood pressure is too low. It made him passed out."
You nodded understandably as Jackson started to lead you to a room where Mark is in.
"Oh, Mark," You sighed when you see his figure on a medical bed and rushed to him.
Mark is still sleeping peacefully. His hair is a little damp and he's sweating. Placing your hand on his forehead, it was rather cold. You pushed his bangs away from his face before settling by playing his hair.
"What an idiot." You whispered to no one but the other members heard you. They chuckled silently, didn't want to interrupt your silent moment with sleeping-Mark.
"Don't say it."
You sat up straighter while raising your eyebrow, "Don't say what?"
Mark groaned as he tried to sit up, "Don't say 'I've told you so'."
After helping him to sit up, you took a glass of water. When Mark tried to grab the glass, you smack his hand away before motioning him to drink with you holding the glass.
He pouts and opened his mouth to protest but your glare shuts him up.
"Slowly." You command him as he drank. After you put the glass away, silence fell between you.
You decided to cut off the silence, "Do you want to me rant or...?"
Mark sighed, "I know I messed up."
"Yes, you did."
"I'm an idiot."
"That you are."
"I know I was supposed to listen to you."
"That is true."
"I'm a terrible boyfriend."
"Debatable."
Your boyfriend frowned at you, "What? Why?"
You raised your eyebrow, "You didn't listen to me."
Mark bowed his head in regret which made you giggle, "No, I was kidding."
You decided to sit next to him on the bed before you hug him tightly. Mark returned your hug before mumbling an apology. You nodded your head before pulling away.
Grabbing his face, you kissed his forehead then his nose and finally peck his lips softly. Pressing your forehead against his, you breathe out slowly as you closed your eyes.
"Never again. Do you hear me? No more forcing yourself. Your body is a tressure, Mark. You have to keep it well. If something happens to you, God, help me, I will castrate you."
Mark laughed but when he didn't hear you laugh with him, his smile fell. "Wait, are you serious?"
You can't hold it anymore and laugh, "Of course not, you idiot!"
He sighed in relief, "Oh thank God, that would be horrible."
You flicked his forehead and giggled when he pouts. "Don't force yourself again, okay? You have to eat and rest a lot more now. Take care of your health."
"I will, I promise."
"You better hold this promise for good, Tuan. Last time you promised, you messed up." You crossed your arms with a playful glare.
"I won't, I really won't." Mark pulled your arms and hugged your waist, "You worry too much."
You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him close, "I will always worry about you, idiot."
