Just finished watching Gravity Falls for the first time yesterday. Yes the finale made me cry. And I needed nearly 20 minutes to emotionally recover. Currently put Journal #3 on hold at my local library.

OP's Kid Watching Gravity Falls (UPDATE)
While he is not sure WHAT Stan is going to do, he loved Gideon Rises and was very excited that Stan has all 3 books and "opened them up to the puzzle pages". He still isn't sure who wrote the books. He IS sure that Gideon is evil. We will watch Season 2 asap.

I love this photo because it invokes primal reactions in people. They are the couple everyone wishes they were in high school. They represent the summun of popularity and success. Those who fall short this ideal cannot help but feel the sting of envy. A mirror into your soul.

The opinions "Ford Pines is a human who made mistakes and can grow from them, but at the end of the day he's a good guy who does care for his twin" and "Ford was way too quick to close off Stan and was the one who betrayed him the most" should not be unable to coexist

Happy Wednesday, how about some Stan pines angst!
"People really love Ford.
This is a given. Anyone who isn't a snotty little teen that likes to sling slurs at people loves the dude. It's almost hilarious how much differently everyone treats him here. Everyone loves him!
He feels like he's gonna throw up. "

⚠️gravity falls spolier⚠️
Season 1 Episode 17
A little past halg way through the episode, where Robbie hypnotized wendy and dipper like tells her and stuff. Grunkle Stan says to Robbie something about the apocolypse and "burying your gold" and then ask "youve been buying gold right?" To Robbie.
Season 1 Episode 19
And when Gideon shakes hands with bill cipher, Bill says "Remeber! Reality's an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold! Byeeee!"
And i just thought that was cool, like, that its hinted that Grunkle Stan knows stuff.

If I've had a nickel for every times I've really liked a character from a cartoon who've been stuck somewhere for many, many years, gets super pissed when they're saved, has been in a very problematic relationship, is definitely traumatized, and is friend with a short nerd, then I would have two nickels.
You'd think there would be a funny punchline, but the fact it happened twice is funny enough on its own.

rewatching Gravity Falls and muchly enjoying but i’ve decided Stanford should have been Grunkle Stan’s long lost twin sister instead. to more directly parallel Dipper and Mabel, but also as an inversion cause in this twin pair the sister is the curious studious nerdy one and the brother is the goofy troublemaker with a big heart. her name could have been Stanislava. Grauntie Slava

Jail Break— where Garnet being a fusion is revealed— aired three days AFTER Not What He Seems— where Stanford Pines is revealed to be the author of the journals?! Why has it always felt like the former happened years before the latter lol

I keep finding myself thinking about one scene in Gravity Falls that hit so hard back when I was watching the original tv run and had to wait sometimes weeks between episodes.
In "Not What He Seems" after Grunkle Stan gets arrested, the kids are snooping around in his stuff looking for a way to prove his innocence, and find a bunch of fake IDs and a newspaper article about Stan Pines dying in a car crash.
youtube
In a story full of fantasy horror (the Shapeshifter, demonic possession, zombies) we the audience, as well as Dipper and Mabel, are confronted with a real-life horror story: their sketchy but beloved family member is living under a stolen identity and their real great-uncle (whom they have never actually met) has quite probably been dead the whole time. And then we find out it's all mostly true. The kids had never met the real Stanford Pines, only the man living in his house and using his name.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, it all gets cleared up: Stanford and Stanley are twin brothers, a lot of the sketchy stuff came from Grunkle Stan trying to rescue his brother from his own invention, and most importantly of all Grunkle Stan does love and care about the kids.
Tumblr media
BUT STILL!
Tumblr media
I love this show, I love the characters, and I love the dark places the story is willing to go.
