Rex Racer on the Final Turn by GrayJay - X-Men (Comics) - A epistolary fic based on 616 canon, focusing on the Summers brothers. It's very long and detailed and fits neatly into canon while updating to modern tech. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this one.

You're the Comeback Kid by ryoukootonashi - DCU (Comics) - Roxy Leech + Kon, about Roxy reacting to Kon's death. A nice focus into a relationship DC has neglected for years.

Sure on this shining night by mediant - DCU (Comics) - Lots of good stuff from the Superfam Secret Santa, but this one sticks out for digging into Kryptonian customs. I just adore it.

a window opens up (someone calls your name) by sheikahs - DCU (Comics) - A post-Mercury Falling Thad redemption. For those of you who know, I don't think I need to say more. But I just loved the premise, and it was so, so good.

The Irredeemable Beast by OhMyStarsAndGarters - X-Men (Comics) - A fic which reconciles Hank McCoy's previous characterization with all the stuff that's happened in recent years. If you liked Hank McCoy and want a good story following modern comics, this is for you. It's still a WIP, but I've been loving it.

how big, how blue, how beautiful by merils - DCU (Comics) - Friend fic <3 but also listen to Rimi, Ph.D. in Kon about his trauma and enjoy the Clark + Kon dynamic. No one gets Clark + Kon like Rimi.

Family Ties by SolidCoffee - TMNT - Another friend fic, but Raph as a dad with family drama. It's so much fun and complex, and I love Jamie's attention to detail.

Right to Remain Silent - DCU (Comics) - Focuses on an outsider POV of what happens after Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van send their son away.

For the Sexy Days of Summers Event happening right now we've invited Scott Summers (Cyclops) fans to take part in spreading more love for him out there on the internet by creating fanfiction, fanart, fan works, etc. to celebrate our favorite X-Men leader and the possibility of what if. For the duration of this challenge so far we've received some really incredible submissions with super rare pairings that are new to us. For the month of September we'd like to share some of those and also share some various fandom creations along the way in terms of content. Some might be an old favorite pairing while others might be something in terms of shipping you've never considered before.

Below under the cut we take a different approach as instead of focusing on romantic pairings we are showcasing Scott's 'adoptive' parental figure relationship with Charles. The stories featured below showcase some moments with Scott and his son!

Warriors OC #1: Puddleduck

Puddleduck is a tomcat warrior and my first Warriors OC, though he doesn't really do anything to be perfectly honest. He is a large, well fed brown and white tabby with green eyes. He has a very calm and cheerful personality which means that he is good friends with many of his Clan members. He is a good listener. He is mates with Whitetail, a warrior she-cat, and the friend of Whitetail's sister Cottonmouth along with many other of his acquaintances. He is in a mostly one-sided rivalry with Grayjay, a SwanClan warrior who acts as somewhat of a character foil to him--Grayjay being mean-spirited, manipulative, self centered, and liking to stir up drama while Puddleduck is kind, supportive, calm, and generally more pleasant. Grayjay likes to be mean to Puddleduck, disliking him a seemingly unnecessary amount, and Puddleduck doesn't really care that much and doesn't take it personally.

Youtube's insane war with Adblock

Anti Adblock has been the bane of any casual website viewing experience and any website I visits that had those banners is typically written off entirely, and now Youtube is one of them but they take it to a whole nother level. Apparently on the Ublock reddit. They have to routinely change up how they block the banner every couple of days and by extension, you will have to update your ublock every couple of days for it to work and may have to only use Ublock because it can conflict with other blockers.

How did we get here? Oh right, every multi million dollar corporation keeping the lights on with advertisements. Advertisements so bad the our governments actually consider it a good idea to have ad block on because advertisements are a hotbed for malware to speak nothing of deepfakes or outright scam ads that the FTC considers too small a problem to get rid of.

I mean ever since Ross from the game dungeon released his video where he said that Games as a Service are Scams I've been workshopping basically the same sentiment for advertisements.

Companies sell ad space with no expectation that customers will click on the ads, only that for all intents and purposes, they presented the ads to you and are thus owed money for providing that service.

Advertisers dump tens of thousands of dollars just so the advertisement can be clicked on with the possible chance of making a sale as that's the only way to actually get a return on the investment of the advertisement in the first place.

After all a really great product doesn't even need an advertising budget per se. Word of mouth is so powerful, hell, a 7-10 review of a product from a random youtuber generates more attention and sales than a million dollar super bowl advertisement. As long as you get the right Youtuber it's way more cost effective to not have traditional ad spaces.

Not that sponsors are free from guilt. Sponsors are often scams as well. There's been more than a couple sponsored products that were scams but unlike Youtube/Google which can sell ad space to con artists and never suffer an issue, one video from Scott Schafer can convince the youtube community to effectively deplatform a bad product or service.

I mean Raid Shadow Legends still falls through the cracks but it's better than nothing.

But I've been preparing for this, actually a few people have. Louis Rossman has been working on some Manhattan project called Grayjay that will bring multi platform streaming all under one app.

There are of course other streaming platforms with different, more affordable hosting methods as well as ways to monetize content that hopes to not make the same mistakes Youtube makes with budgeting.

There's my method which is downloading every video you think you'll ever want to watch more than once, putting it on a single hard drive and then using some server hosting service like Plex and you just stream your own content to yourself (which by the way is really affordable to do as long as you are okay with 1080p to 360p as higher resolutions on very long videos like streams will soak up a lot of space for what is just one video).

A third method is installing Linux on a machine and gain access to some linux exclusive apps like Freetube which removes the bad aspects of Youtube and only has the videos as well as sponsorblock with no ads to boot (you won't be able to block content though and there's no algorithm so you better know what you want to find because you are on your own for real).

The last method is Vanced. It was supposed to be dead but like a building that's closed 11 months in a year, it sprung to life one day and now lives although you will have to have a android device and learn the side loading method to get it really working.

I've been saying this about Youtube and Twitter X for awhile now but you really should consider a future where Youtube doesn't exist, companies are tightening their budgets across the board, once the advertising firm gets slashed basically everything dependent on it will evaporate. Not enough people will ever use Youtube Red to keep the lights on for Youtube as Youtube's budget is constantly scaling and impossible to price in.

The lost media Youtube will create when it shudders is beyond your comprehension.

Taking a moment to rec one of my comfort rereads.

Gonna assume that anyone with strong (friendly) feelings about Scott Summers has read it already, but omg this series. Especially the last story (Speed on the Inside Line). Really deftly handled and beautiful exploration of complex sibling dynamics amid massive trauma.

“This is what you wouldn’t tell me about. Before.” “Yeah,” says Scott. He still won’t look at Alex. “At first, it was pretty simple, but after a little while, the plans started to involve taking out guards. And I told him--what he’d said at the beginning, how I wasn’t going to hurt anyone, and he, um--” Scott breaks off, furrows his brow. “Anyway. It didn’t go well, and after that, we both pretty much stopped pretending it was anything other than--what it was.” Jesus, thinks Alex, even when you’re telling the truth, you can’t bring yourself to actually tell the fucking truth, can you? Starts to say it, but then he sees the set of Scott’s jaw, the way his shoulders are hunched, and decides to keep his mouth shut.

omg your tags on the post about emma's age...that's such an interesting way to think about it! i really agree with how emma comes off in the dps and i do think there's something there in them being somewhat unconventional!! i think this is something used to contrast them with jean and scott in a way that is often reductive and simplistic, but the dynamic itself does still exist and is, like you said, a really important and interesting facet of their relationship. i also just think emma is a character who HAS to feel like she has a long history, because that's part of what gives her past actions and affiliations weight.

100% !! I think one of the most interesting things about Scott & Emma is how much of their relationship boils down to how unconventional it appears.

(This is all to say though, that I think Scott and Emma are actually very similar people. That line in the trans!Scott grayjay fic that’s like “That she knows what it means to tear down and rebuild a self from the ground up.” is genuinely the quintessential understanding of Scemma)

And I think you’re absolutely right— they frequently get boiled down into being “unconventional” for the sake of comparison to Jean and Scott’s “conventional.” I think that’s really common both in universe and in fandom, which is too bad!! It’s super reductive to both relationships and all the characters but I digress.

Emma’s character really does lend itself to somebody who has an incredibly long history! I think a lot her actions hold so much weight because of what can be assumed through her history and I think that’s a super important part of her character. The way she never expects forgiveness from the x-men and the way she consistently views herself as a villain regardless of her own actions all really speak to her having spent a significant amount of time as a different version of herself, and I think she constantly readjusting her sense of self to what it now means for her to be seen as hero.

howd shalestar lose that leg?

He lost it in rock slide. The Stoneclan south camp is located at the base of a mountain next to the town, and cats living there coordinate missions to scale the mountain to hunt mountain goats, which offer a decent source of prey especially in lean times, and especially since Stoneclan is the biggest clan. These slopes are gravelly and volatile though, and are prone to sudden landslides. This happened to Shalestar, his leg got caught in the slide and he suffered a severe crush injury. Most cats wouldn't have survived this, but Stoneclan is unique in that they are not above turning to human medical help. Shalestar spent several months healing in the local animal shelter before returning to the clan, and the south camp’s deputy Grayjay took up leadership duties in his absence. Stoneclan has two deputies, one for each camp, which can be helpful if situations like these arrive.

He’s adapted to the change well, but doesn’t partake in mountain hunting parties any more, and doesn’t visit the North camp as often as Stoneclan leaders usually do. He also occasionally experiences phantom pains, as well as lasting emotional repercussions/survivor’s guilt from the traumatic incident.

He’s prone to ignoring his own needs sometimes, and Grayjay often provides support for him and reminds him to properly care for himself. The two are very close and frequently spend time together.
