A/N: Been having a headache for the whole day so this is all I could write for today. Gonna try to get that Sevika fic tomorrow. The prompt for this one was 'fake/pretend relationship' with Grayson. For more fics from the 5k event you can go to my wholesome list or to the darker list if you want something a bit more spicy.
Tumblr media
When you heard that you would be getting witness protection you expected maybe a few officers outside your place, keeping watch, maybe one two watching offer you from afar while you go to and from work. The usual stuff. Not Grayson asking you to move in with her. Sure you've been friends for years now but this was a little over the top, even for her.
What made it even more bizarre was that Grayson introduced you as her partner.
"Well I wanted to have a little alone time you see. However I couldn't hide this cutie forever." Is what she said as she wrapped her arm around your back and pulled you close, kissing your cheek, setting your face aflame.
You played along, you had to play along, at least until you knew you'd be safe again.
However this didn't mean that you can't get angry.
"The hell was that?" You shrugged off her arm as soon as the two of you were inside her home. You looked at her demanding an explanation.
Grayson sighed, "I was improvising. And honestly, if people believe you're my lover I don't think anyone would dare make a move against you."
You huffed and sat on the couch your hand sliding over warm face, "That's not the point. You could have at least given me some sort of heads up. You really put me on the spot there."
"Well good thing we play off each other really well then." Grayson took a seat next to you and started working on unbuttoning her uniform, "I am sorry though, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable by implying a romantic relationship."
"I wasn't." You snap at her, only realizing that you did so after the words have left your mouth. Your cheeks heat up again, "I mean not about that anyway."
Grayson's eyebrows shot up, "What do you mean?"
You felt your heart beating out of your chest with each passing second, "Nothing. I just mean... being in a relationship with you wasn't the bad part."
You haven't seen Grayson rendered speechless many times, she always had a comeback ready to go. Not this time. She looked at you like you had grown a second head. It made you shift and wiggle on the spot.
After what seemed like an eternity she finally spoke, "Oh. I... I think I understand."
"Oh my god." You groaned and hid your face in your hands.
"Hey, no look at me please. I'm not mad or anything. Just you know surprised that you... felt that way towards me." Grayson rubbed her knuckled awkwardly, the atmosphere suddenly very tense between you two, "Why did you agree to living with me then? I imagine it can't feel comfortable when you... kept those feelings hidden."
You certainly never imagined Grayson to be so shy about this, it almost seemed like she was more shy about this than you.
"I like being around you. And I accepted that you wouldn't return my feelings. Being your friend is more than enough you know? But when you said that, it just, opened up those feelings again, you know. If you want me to leave, I get it. I'll go tomorrow." Just saying those words makes you want to shrink into yourself, your heart breaking, thinking about Grayson not wanting to be around you anymore.
You stand up and start to leave for your room, fully intent on packing up your stuff. "Wait." Grayson's hand wraps around yours, pulling you back, "Don't leave. You don't have to. Honestly I like having you here. It's... it's nice to have someone to come home to. And as for your feelings, could you give me a little while to sort things out?"
Oh. Well then. Maybe things aren't as bad as you thought. Still you wanted to make sure you weren't just imagining stuff, "Sort things out?"
She gives you a small smile and kisses the back of your hand, "I think I might have a pretty good idea already." Your cheeks flame up once more as she looks into your eyes. She kissed your hand again and wished you good night, leaving you with your own thoughts for the night.

Grayson Dolan dating a personal trainer and being absolutely amazed by her. One day she’s boxing with Ethan and she knows he’s holding back so she teaches him a lesson. Grayson is filming on Snapchat absolutely wheezing at what he’s seeing. After that he’s all lovey with her and is praising her it’s just all cute It would make my day is you could extend or elaborate on this concept. ❤️❤️❤️ love you
Thank you so much for this request I love the idea!! I hope I did it justice!!!
“Grayson,” you moaned, “harder. Come on I can take it. Give it to me.” Grayson smirked at you and you knew what he was thinking. Instead of saying anything you threw a quick jab and his head snapped back as your glove made contact with his nose.
“What the fuck y/n!” His glove immediately went to his nose and you let out a laugh.
“We’re training, Gray. Now is not the time for you to be thinking about us fucking.”
“But it’s so much better thinking about that than this.”
You shrugged, “Get in the corner we’re sparring. We still have another thirty minutes in the session.” You had met Grayson and Ethan when they had come into the gym you worked at one day. They hadn’t wanted a personal trainer at the time but a few weeks after they joined the gym they had a sudden change of heart. You had been a personal trainer for a few years and when your boss came to you and told you that two boys specifically requested you you were eager to train somebody. You later found out that they didn’t need a trainer at all. They had obviously been training and working out for the majority of their life and they knew what they were doing. After Grayson had asked you on a date and you guys had been together for a while he admitted that he forces Ethan into using you as a personal trainer. You had caught his eye immediately and he wanted to be around you as much as possible.
“You’re a menace.” Grayson said as he made his way to the corner.
You shrugged, “You’re the one that hired me.”
“Yeah but you’re my girlfriend now, can’t you go easy?”
“I’m your girlfriend all the time except for the two hours we train.” Grayson huffed again. As you were wrapping your session up Ethan came into the ring, ready to spar with you. He didn’t often train with you, instead choosing to do his own workouts while Grayson and you worked out. Sometimes, though, he’d ask for advice or a new routine.
“Ready to spar y/n? Think you can handle this?” Ethan teased as he got in the ring.
“Be careful, E. She can take you down without trying.” Grayson said pulling out his phone.
“Maybe she can take you down. But we all know who the better twin is.” Ethan was bouncing on his feet and warming up with some punches and moves. As the two of you took your place you saw Grayson filming. It was the first time you and Ethan has sparred and you were excited to see his talent.
You stepped forward and that was Ethan’s signal to start. He came towards you and threw a quick punch that you easily dodged and you landed a punch to the right side of his ribs. He looked up at you, shocked. Grayson was taunting him from outside the ring and you laughed before lifting your hands up to block a right hook from Ethan. He was left handed so you had to adjust a little bit but easily got the flow of his style. You two continued to box for a few minutes before Grayson got bored, “Take him out, babe! Finish it!”
“You’re supposed to be supporting me, bro.” Ethan said. His chest was shiny with sweat and he was panting.
“I would if I thought that you had any chance of beating y/n.” Grayson taunted and you smirked. You cracked your neck and watched Ethan’s movements. You faked right and he swung. As he left his side open you landed three jabs to his ribs and chest and he stumbled back into the ropes. You approached him and he lifted his gloves to block his face. You threw a fake punch to his abdomen and he brought his gloves to block you but left his face unprotected. You threw a right hook and then two quick jabs to his nose. His head snapped back and you crouched down and swept his legs out from under him and he hit the mat hard. Grayson was cackling in the back and you looked up to see him still filming.
“I got that all on video!” He yelled and Ethan groaned as he got up from the floor.
“What the fuck.” Ethan was confused as you took your gloves off.
You shrugged, “I could tell that you were holding back. Don’t hold back, I can take it. Had to show you what I was capable of.” you stepped out of the ring and Grayson came right up to you and wrapped you in a big hug.
“You’re amazing holy shit I’m so in love with you. Please marry me.” He said and you laughed as he lifted you up and spun you around. He dropped you back on your feet and tilted your head up and planted a gentle kiss on your lips.
“I love you too, Gray.” you looked to Ethan who was toweling himself off and chugging water, “Should we get pizza?” Ethan looked up at you and grinned happily.
“Always.” As the three of you walked out to Ethan’s car Grayson grabbed your hand.
“I love you so much, y/n. You know that right? And not just because you’re an amazing trainer or whatever, I love every part of you so much.” You tugged on his hand and pulled him to a stop. “What?” Grayson asked, confused. You pressed a gentle kiss to his lips and smiled up at him when the two of you broke apart. You pressed another gentle kiss to his nose and he blushed.
“Come on love birds!” Ethan yelled and you and Grayson hustled to the car, ready for pizza.

The Cove Part 10 Final
When you woke up it was dark out. Grayson’s arms were still around you but they were limp, letting you know that he was still asleep. Even if he wasn’t actively trying to keep you close to him, his arm still weighed a ton and even though you knew you were in pretty good shape from endless swimming his arm was still huge. You huffed, trying to get off the bed without waking him. Just as you were about to give up Ethan walked in the room. Your eye caught his and you gave him a pleading look. He laughed and walked over to the bed.
“He’s fucking huge.” You whispered.
“It’s his ego that keeps him in the gym for hours at a time.”
“Fuck you Eth.” Grayson mumbled and you giggled. Grayson moved a bit and you saw your escape but he pulled you back into his chest quickly.
“Bro, let her breathe.” Ethan tugged on Grayson’s arm half-heartedly and Grayson mumbled a ‘No’ before smothering you again.
“Hafta pee.” You tried to get out, but Grayson’s body was currently covering you and you were having a hard time breathing under him. With a groan Grayson rolled off of you and you took a huge gasp of air. You jumped off the bed and ran down the hall, leaving Ethan and Grayson in the room together, eyes zeroed in on the bathroom a few feet away.
When you came back in Grayson’s room Ethan had gone, “Feeling better?” you asked.
“A little. Sorry I’m boring today, though.”
“Don’t you dare apologize. It’s not your fault and I’m not mad. Can we take a drive?” Grayson looked up at you, eyebrows raised.
“Yeah. I think Ethan is going out soon, though, we’ll have to take my mom’s car though.” You nodded and walked to his closet, “What are you doing?”
“It’s gonna be colder, you’ll need a sweater.” You tossed him a hoodie and grabbed one for yourself. You still had his other hoodie at home and you smiled when you realized that you would probably gain more of his hoodies the more you hung out.
“It’s summer, Y/N… it doesn’t get cold, even at night.”
You shook your head, pulling him towards the stairs, “It gets colder where we’re going.” You were bringing him to the cove and while it didn’t usually get cold, even at night, the cove was always a few degrees colder.
“Where are you going?” Grayson asked after ten minutes of driving, “Are we going to the lake?”
“Kinda…” you kept it vague.
Finally you made it to the lake and parked the car as close to the cove as you could. When the two of you got out of the car you grabbed Grayson’s hand and led him down the familiar path. As you came closer to the cove you could feel Grayson’s hand tense in yours. You smiled a bit.
“Y/N, what--?” Grayson breathed when you made it into the cove.
“It was me, Gray.” You faced him, his eyes blown wide, “I’m Kai. You’re the Brad that I was talking about. And if I’m not mistaken, I was the girl you were talking about?” Grayson nodded, mouth open, eyes still blown wide, “What are the chances?” You laughed and turned around, walking to the edge and looking down at the lake. Grayson grabbed you and spun you towards him, pulling you tight to his chest before leaning down to place a light kiss on your lips, taking it slow. You smiled when he pulled away before pulling him back down you your lips.
When you broke apart you took a seat at the edge and you told him about how you found it, how you hid out and watched the lake from about, making sure you couldn’t be seen. You told time that you would watch him, too scared to talk to him. Your cheeks were pink but then Grayson told you that he would sometimes see you training and watch you run and swim, he told you  that he was mesmerized by the way you moved, how you glided through the water. Your cheeks pinked at that too. As the two of you sat, Grayson’s arms wrapped around you, you looked at all the other secret places that you found through the years. Maybe, eventually, you would show Grayson those places as well. But now? Now you were content to sit, listening to his heartbeat, lulled by his gentle rocking back and forth. With a smile on your face you watched the moon rise over the lake, reflecting off of the water below it, completely happy with everything in your life.

A Much Needed Break
Pairing: Grayson x FemReader
Tags: fluff, established relationship, overworking, shoulder massage, cheek kisses
Word count: 0.4k
Ao3
A/N: I feel like this one is really fitting because I feel like Grayson is one of those married to your work types but she tries not to be. The next Grayson fic that I write will be for my 5k follower event, if you'd like to see my prompt list for the event you can find the wholesome one here and the darker one here.
Tumblr media
Married to her work. Heh. Ridiculous. Grayson may be overworked a lot of the time but there's only one lady in her life that she calls her wife and that's you.
The way you welcome her home after a long day. The way you pull her in and kiss her cheek, her jaw, her neck, her lips. It's the best cure for anything she's angry or worried about from work. Grayson can never get enough of your displays of affection.
Grayson rubbed her temples. Thinking of you always made her feel a bit easier, but it also made her miss you terribly, and it was even worse when she knew she still have a few more hours of work to go.
A knock on the door got her attention. Oh no. What the hell was it now? More papers? A report? Was there something happening on the streets?
With a heavy sigh she straightened up in her chair, she has to be a good example, and spoke in a stern tone, "Come in."
The door opens slowly, like a mystery about to unfold. But instead of a mystery, or one of her officers, she sees you poke your head in, a big and bright smile on your face, "Hey sweetheart. Working late hours today?"
Grayson's eyes widened, "What are you doing here? Everything alright?"
"Everything's fine. I just came here because I missed my wife." You close the door behind you and walk yourself over to Grayson's desk. You take in the mess on it, a small frown forming on your face, "In it deep today huh?"
"Afraid so." Grayson sighs and leans back into her chair, her eyes scanning over the mess of papers and files scattered all over her desk. "I appreciate you coming here, but you don't need to stay you know, this could take hours."
You smile, lean over the desk with your hands for support and kiss her cheek. She lights up almost immediately.
"That's why I'm here. To keep you company. And..." Grayson's eyes follow you as you walk up behind her, a small, but all too familiar gleam in your eye present, "I'll help you relax a little." You whisper into her ear before your hands find firm purchase on her shoulders.
A long groan escapes her as she wills herself to relax under your touch. "How are you so damn good with your hands?"
"I've had a really good partner to practice with." You plant another kiss on her cheek, letting this one linger for a few moments longer. Grayson smiles and leans her head back as she enjoys the massage. She can afford to take a few minutes off. Just a few. Then it's back to work. And after that it's off back home and into your bedroom to show you how good she is with her hands.

The Cove Part 8
When you woke up you were confused. The sheets were different than yours and the walls were the wrong color. You sat up and as sleep left your body you realized you were in Grayson’s room. You didn’t see Grayson, however, which confused you. You threw the blanket off you and swung your legs around to jump off the bed, but stopped when you noticed Grayson on the floor below you. You got down to his level and shook him gently, “Gray.” You spoke softly, not wanting to scare him. He stirred and looked up at you with tired eyes, “Why are you on the floor?”
“You fell asleep during the movie.” He mumbled, his voice deep with sleep.
“That doesn’t explain my question though.”
“We’re taking things slow. I didn’t know if you were comfortable with me sleeping next to you. Even if that’s all we were doing.” Your heart pounded in your chest at the thoughtfulness of his actions. Without thinking you threw yourself at him and hugged him tightly. His strong arms wrapped around you and you briefly thought about the fact that he could crush you if he wanted to. “Thank you, Gray.”
“Y/N.” You pulled back a little. His eyes were downcast and you pulled him towards the bed. When the two of you had settled in he started again, “I’m so sorry I wasn’t there. I couldn’t sleep last night because I felt awful.” He wasn’t looking at you. Placing your palm on his cheek you made him look at you. You didn’t know where the confidence was coming from, especially having spent the past years being too scared to meet his eye, but you enjoyed it.
“It’s not your fault. It’s his. Ethan was there. I’m not upset. I swear, Grayson. Don’t beat yourself up, please. The bruises will heal. And I know you’ll be there if it happens again. It’ll be okay.” He didn’t say anything, “Okay Grayson?” He nodded, “I need you to tell me you won’t keep beating yourself up.”
“I won’t keep beating myself up.” He said. Satisfied, you nodded and dropped your hand. Grayson picked it back up and placed a gentle kiss on it and your heart stuttered. “Can we go get breakfast? Meg and I are hanging out today but I wanna stay with you a little longer.” A smile overtook Grayson’s face and he nodded excitedly. Taking your hand he pulled you down the stairs.
You pulled back when you stepped outside, however, “Gray. It’s freezing.” He looked back at you and walked back into the house. You stayed on the porch, running your hands up and down your arms a few times to try to warm yourself up. Grayson came back out holding one of his hoodies. He handed it to you and you pulled it over your head gratefully. It was big on you but it made you feel safe and it definitely warmed you up. Grayson opened the car door for you and you scrambled in. He took you to the best diner in town. You sighed at the thought of their pancakes. They were fluffy and perfectly cooked. You decided that you were gonna order the chocolate chip pancakes with some hot chocolate.
“So what are you and Meg doing today?” Grayson asked before he took a bit of his toast.
“She said she wanted to go shopping and watch a movie.” You shrugged and took a sip of your hot chocolate. It was still hot and burned your tongue a little bit but you weren’t willing to let it cool down. It was too good. When Grayson didn’t say anything you looked up. He was staring at your wrist. The bruise looked worse than it did last night and you were sure your face looked bad as well, “Gray. You promised.” The bruises still hurt but if you didn’t think about them it you found it easier to ignore the pain.
His eyes snapped towards yours, “I know. It’s still hard.” You reached across the table and grasped his hand, squeezing tightly, “So shopping. What are you gonna get?”
“I don’t really need anything. Maybe a new bathing suit, mine are getting old.”
“Are you free tonight?”
“As far as I know, why? Can’t get enough of me?” You joked.
“I can’t. But I was hoping I could take you somewhere tonight? I wanted to take you yesterday but everybody showed up.”
“Yeah! Yeah I’ll be there.” You were excited at the thought of Grayson taking you somewhere. You wondered if it was a date. You stopped breathing suddenly, “Grayson?”
“Hmm?” He hummed, signaling that he was listening.
“Is this—” you stopped, “is this a date?” Grayson started coughing and you looked up to see him taking a sip of his water, trying to clear his throat of whatever he was choking on, “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean-- I mean I’m not trying to rush you into anything, I was just curious. I shouldn’t have said anything I’m sorry.” You looked down at your pancakes.
“No! No I was just… I was surprised I guess.” He reached for your hand, “I thought it was a date, yeah.” You beamed at him and squeezed his hand.
“Grayson?” You asked again, he looked at you expectantly, “I’m not shy.”
“What--?”
“When I drove you home the other night.. You said you knew why I didn’t talk to you all that much and that it was because Jack told you I was shy. I’m not.”
“Then what--?” He cut himself off again.
“I liked you so much that I couldn’t get any words out around you. I was always scared I’d say something stupid and that you’d laugh at me.” You looked away from him.
“I would never.” He smiled at you, “Well maybe if you said something really stupid like Ethan has bigger biceps than me or that you could beat me in an arm wrestling match.”
You let out a loud laugh, “You’re on.” You lifted your elbow onto the table and waited for Grayson to do the same. His hand wrapped around yours and you were struck, again, at the size difference.
“You ready?” He raised an eyebrow at you and you nodded determinedly. You flexed your arm and he flexed his. For a second you were able to keep him at bay. You weren’t winning but you weren’t losing either and you took that as your own personal win. All of the swimming you did helped. Before long though he pushed your arm down easily and you sighed, “Boom. I win! What’s my reward?”
“Hmm… If we get pizza you can get pineapple on it.”
“Deal!” Grayson stuck his hand out to and you took it and shook it, “Are you done?” He gestured to your mostly empty plate and you nodded, completely full. He scooted his way out of the booth and walked to the cash register, paying the bill before walking back to you, offering his hand for you to take. The two of you walked out of the diner hand in hand, a huge smile on your face.

The Cove Part 7
“Where is everybody?” You questioned when you and Grayson had made your way onto the deserted beach.
“Eth said they’ll be here soon. Laura needed to sober up a little, I guess.” Grayson shrugged and shoved his hands in his pocket. The lake was quiet, ripples in the water reflecting the moonlight. The wind was blowing slightly but it wasn’t cold. You looked to the cove, wanting to check if D had written back, “You okay?” Grayson touched your shoulder lightly. You turned to him and nodded with a smile, “Do you want to swim?” He nodded his head to the water. You didn’t have a suit but you were wearing shorts and your bra would dry if it got wet.
“Yeah, let’s go.” You pulled your top off and walked to the water. It had cooled significantly from the day but wasn’t cold enough to stop you from swimming. As you were about to dive in Grayson ran past you and jumped up, completely submerging himself. You laughed as he resurfaced, his previously styled hair now dripping onto his face and covering his eyes. You brought your hand up to your mouth to stifle the laugh coming out of your mouth. Joining Grayson in the water you submerged yourself until you couldn’t reach the bottom and were treading water. Grayson swam closer to you until he was about an arm’s length away, “Y/N there’s something I want to show you.” He came a bit closer and you nodded, you’d follow Grayson anywhere if he asked. He started to swim towards the shore and you followed. As soon as you got out of the water, however, the rest of the party came onto the beach. Grayson stopped so suddenly that you ran into his strong back for the second time that night. You rubbed your nose again as you stepped away from him. He turned and gave you an apologetic smile, “Maybe later?” You were disappointed but nodded nonetheless. His friends came up to him and they started rough-housing and you looked for Laura or Jack. You found Jack but Laura wasn’t with him.
“Hey, where’s Laura?” You gave Jack a quick hug and he squeezed you quickly.
“She was really tired. I took her home and set her up with some Advil for tomorrow and a few bottles of water.” Jack shrugged and laughed a little, “She gets rowdy when she’s had a few.” You knew all too well what he meant. Laura was a collected person by nature but when she had a few drinks she was like a whole new person.
“Alright, that’s probably for the best that she didn’t come then.” Jack bobbed his head in agreement, “Ethan and Grayson are over there,” you gestured to where they were surrounded by a few people, “I’m gonna go for a walk.” Jack nodded and made his way to his friends and you walked the opposite way towards your cove.
When you reached the cove you opened the notebook excitedly to see that D had written back, “That sounds like a shitty situation, I’m sorry. I think you should tell Brad…” You laughed when you read the name, you had forgotten that you named Grayson “Brad” to hide his-- and your-- true identity, “... about your crush. I know how you feel though, I’m in the same situation. There’s this girl that I’ve had a crush on for years but she and I barely talk. I think she likes my brother which sucks. He knows that I like her and I know that he wouldn’t make a move on her because I like her but it still sucks seeing her with him you know? Anyway, I think honesty is the best policy for you right now. I guess that makes me a hypocrite, huh? I’m telling you to tell Brad about your crush but I’m not going to tell my crush. I’ve never been in love but the feeling I have when I’m with her makes me think I might be falling for her. We should get together for dinner and discuss our hardships. I’m just kidding… kinda. It’d be nice to talk to somebody who knows what I’m going through. Anyway, I’m already late for something so I’d better go. I hope she’s there. I’ll let you know if she is. -D
P.S. What should I call you? I feel weird calling you “wave”... -D”
You smiled at the note. D was right, it felt nice to have somebody that could relate to what you were going thorough. You picked up the pen and started to write back, “I completely agree. It’s nice that somebody knows sorta what I’m going through. I found out that Brad and that girl I thought he was with aren’t actually together and that she has a boyfriend. It makes me feel better but I still can’t carry a very good conversation with him. We had a nice night together and that was the most that I had talked to him since I’ve known him, I think. Maybe I’m getting better at this? Maybe there’s a chance.
P.S. you can call me Kai.”
Kai was the Hawaiian word for sea and you felt like it represented you well. It also hid your identity from D or whoever else might know about your cove. You looked down to the lake and saw a sizeable crowd on the beach and you sighed, knowing that you should probably join or else people might wonder where you were. There were few enough people to where your absence was noticeable but that you could sneak away like you had for a short amount of time. You made your way down the trail and back to where people were mingling. They had brought the alcohol from the party and people were getting a little rowdy. You giggled at some of your friends acting silly with the aid of alcohol in their systems.
“Fancy seeing you here.” You shivered when somebody’s hand snaked around your waist and started travelling to your butt. Whoever it was smelled heavily of alcohol and their breath was fanning over your neck uncomfortably. Turning, you turned saw Dean standing there with a smirk on his face and you grimaced.
“Yeah well, my brother and his best friends put this little party on so I couldn’t really say no.” You started to walk away and kept an eye out for Jack, Ethan, or Grayson. You didn’t want any conflict but being closer to one of them would make you feel much better.
“Yeah? Maybe you should text them, tell them that you’re leaving this party early.” Dean was even more drunk than when you had first come in contact with him at Meg’s sister’s house and he was stumbling after you.
“That’s fine, thanks for the offer, though. I should find my friends.” Dean reached for you and your pulled your hand away.
“Aw, sweetheart, are you saying we aren’t friends? I’m hurt.” You saw him pout out of the corner of your eye and you rolled your eyes at him. You still hadn’t spotted any of the guys and you were running out of options. You thought about going into the water to get away from him but you realized even the colder water wouldn’t dissuade him from following you. Turning to the water you finally caught Ethan’s eye. He was in the middle of the lake surrounded by a few people. When Dean caught your wrist you were forced to break eye contact with Ethan and you tried to tug your arm out of his grasp, “I’m getting you one way or another, fucking prude. You might as well make it easier for yourself.”
“And what are you gonna do? Where you gonna take me? There’s too many people here for you to do anything to me in the open, and judging by your breath there’s no way you drove here yourself. Let me go, asshole.” You tried to look over to Ethan again but Dean grabbed your chin and made you look at him. His breath washed over you and you coughed at the strong smell of tequila.
“You don’t want to test me, bitch.”
“Hey! Let her the fuck go, Dean!” You sagged in relief when you heard Ethan’s voice coming behind you. Dean squeezed your arm and chin tighter when he saw Ethan and you yelped at the pain racing through your body. You struggled with him, wanting to be near Ethan or anybody that wasn’t Dean. “I said,” your body was jostled a little as Ethan shoved Dean, “stay the fuck away from her.” Dean let you go and you stumbled. Somebody grabbed your arm gently and pulled you towards them. Looking up you saw Meg with a kind but sad smile on her face.
“Are you okay?” She touched your jaw lightly and you flinched at the sensitivity, “I’m sorry, come with me.” She guided you towards the coolers and pulled out a can of beer.
“Meg, I don’t really want a drink right now…”
She giggled, “It’s for your face. You need something cold on it.” You nodded and took the can from her.
“What’s happening? Why is Ethan furious?” Jack came up behind you and raised an eyebrow at the can of beer on your cheek.
“Dean was being an asshole. Grabbed Y/N. Ethan got him off her.” Meg explained.
Jack dropped to his knees beside you, “Are you okay? Let me see. Y/N I’m so sorry.”
You removed the can and let him see your face. He surveyed it with furrowed brows. You raised your left arm where Dean had gripped you and he gasped, water gathering in his eyes as he looked at you, “Jack it’s fine, I swear. Meg is helping me and Ethan took care of it. He was bothering me at the party and must have heard that there was a party here too, just bad luck.”
“We’re pressing charges.” Jack stated firmly, “That jackass is going to--”
“Y/N! Are you okay? Let me see. I don’t think he’ll be bothering you again.” Ethan walked over to the table you were sitting at and you noticed his knuckles were a little red. A crowd had gathered around you and Ethan pushed his way through to see you. He crowded in next to Jack, looking at your face and arm.
“I’m okay, thank you for helping me.” You smiled gingerly at him, “You got there just in time.” You picked up Ethan’s hand and frowned at how swollen the knuckles looked. Lowering the beer can from your face you tried to put it on Ethan’s hand but he shook his head and placed in back on your face gently.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there sooner.” Ethan looked away, “He could have-” Ethan cut himself off and held your uninjured hand, squeezing it a bit when he thought of what could have happened.
“It’s not your fault, I’m just glad you were there at all.” You didn’t really want to think what could have happened if Ethan hadn’t seen you when he did.
“What the fuck is happening? Did somebody get hurt?” You heard Grayson’s voice cut through the crowd. Ethan and Jack looked at each other and then over to Grayson who was making his way through the crowd. “Y/N?” you waved weakly, the can of beer still on your face. “What-?”
“Dean.” Ethan gritted through his teeth. Grayson tensed and looked around, “He’s gone, bro. I took care of it. Grayson stop.” Ethan got up to grab Grayson’s arm.
When Grayson turned around to look at Ethan his face was hard and determined, “E…” Grayson trailed off and gestured to you, his eyes softening when he met yours.
“I know, but he’s gone and all we can do now is make sure Y/N is safe and okay.” You felt your cheeks heat up as Ethan and Grayson talked about you as if you weren’t there; in front of the crowd, nonetheless.
Jack squeezed your hand and stood up, “Why don’t we talk about this somewhere else?”
Ethan and Grayson looked at him, “Nah, we’re good. The conversation is over anyway.” Ethan said, sending Grayson a steely glare showing that there was no room for argument, “I think it’s time to go home.” The crowd started to disperse and people started packing up the drinks and pack things away in their cars.
Grayson stayed where he was, watching as you and Meg conversed about what happened. You didn’t really want to relive it but a whole slew of people had seen it and you knew that even if you didn’t talk about it, others would, “You have my number, right?” you nodded at Meg, “Great. Text me tomorrow when you wake up, we’ll go shopping and do a movie. Sound good?” You nodded at her again. The look she gave you didn’t leave much room for objection, but you were glad that she was making these plans. You needed to keep your mind busy and off of what had happened today.
When you looked over to Jack to ask him to take you home he was talking rapidly with Grayson and Ethan, all three of them were gesturing wilding and you grew frustrated. You were right there for crying out loud! “Hey assholes. I’m right here. Don’t talk about me like I’m invisible, or a child. If you have something to fucking say, say it.” You balled your fists but the look of intimidation you were trying to go for was ruined when you flinched when pain shot through your left arm from Dean’s tight grip and made you drop your glare and unclench your fists.
“Grayson is going to take you home, now. I’ll see you in a bit.” Jack said, placing a kiss on the top of your head.
You panicked, thinking that Jack and Ethan were going to go after Dean again, “Jack! Please don’t. It’s fine I’m fine.”
“Shhh, relax. We’re not going to go after Dean. Grayson—“ he cut himself off before continuing, “Gray feels bad that he wasn’t there to help. He wants to apologize.” You glanced over at Grayson who was looking at something on his phone.
“Okay. Promise you won’t do anything stupid?”
“Promise, twin.” Jack gave you a tight hug and another kiss on your head.
You walked over to Grayson and touched his arm gently, “I’m going with you.” He looked up and smiled tightly at you before putting his phone in his back pocket. He rested his hand on your lower back and guided you to the car. He opened the passenger side door and helped you in, “No drinks?” Now that you knew that Grayson and Ethan didn’t drink you tried to make a joke about it ease the tense situation. Grayson gave you a weak smile, shaking his head, “Are you okay? I can go home with Jack if you have something to do. It’d make more sense, actually.”
“No!” The volume of his voice startled you and you jumped, “No. Please let me take you home. I just— I feel so bad that I wasn’t there.” He clenched the wheel tightly. You didn’t know why he was so torn up about what happened and asked him as much. “Y/N. You didn’t deserve that.”
“Nobody does. But I’m fine. Ethan was there. Meg helped me afterwards. Jack will keep him from me if I see him again. It’ll be okay.” You tried to speak softly, reassuring him.
“That’s not it. I know we’ll keep you safe.” Your heart fluttered.
“Then what, Gray?” His eyes snapped towards yours as he rolled to a stop at a stop sign.
“You don’t know? Jack didn’t tell you?” You shook your head, having no idea what he could be talking about, “Y/N I like you. A lot. I have for years.” He broke eye contact and drove forward.
You froze, “Fuck you, Grayson. Let me out. How dare you?” You jiggled the door handle, disregarding the fact that Grayson was currently flying down the road.
“Y/N what— stop! You’re gonna hurt yourself.” Grayson pulled over and parked the car, “What just happened?”
“Who told you? How do you know?”
“Know what, Y/N? I’m lost!”
“I’ve liked you since we were in kindergarten together. And you think just because of what happened tonight you can make fun of me? I may be weak but I’m not pathetic. I know I couldn’t get Dean off of me but I’m not gonna sit around while you try to take advantage of the shitty situation.” Tears were falling on your cheeks.
“I had no idea you liked me, I swear. And I would never take advantage of you. I’m not De—“ he took a deep breath, “I’m not Dean. I would never--.” You looked at Grayson, his eyes were full of sincerity and you were taken aback.
“You didn’t just say that? You meant it?”
“That I like you? Yes. I have for as long as I can remember.”
You huffed, “I’m sorry.”
Grayson started to laugh, “You’re a spitfire, Y/N.” You shrugged, looking away from him, embarrassed. He tilted your chin up with his pointer finger. The gentle contact on your face was a stark contrast to the force that had been used on you just an hour ago. He wiped the tear off your cheek, “I’m so sorry I wasn’t there. And I don’t know if you want to take things slow, or if you even want a relationship, let alone with me, but if you’ll have me I’ll keep you safe, always.” Your breath was caught in your throat but you nodded, “Yes to what, Y/N?”
“I want this. With you. I’ve wanted it since I was 5 and you offered me the Blood Orange crayon because the Red crayon wasn’t ‘pretty enough’ for the sunset.” Grayson giggled at you. When him and Ethan had come in to class on the first day of kindergarten Grayson had immediately come over and told you that the colors you had weren’t good enough for the picture you were drawing. You were hurt initially but when he opened his small palm he had a whole array of colors and offered them to you to use. “But, Gray…” he looked at you expectantly, “can… can we take it slow? I don’t…” you didn’t know what you were trying to say but Grayson understood.
“We can take it as slow as you want.” You smiled gratefully. “Let’s get some ice for you. Wanna go back to mine?” You looked out of the windshield and smiled then nodded at him. He smiled back at you before starting the car and pulling back onto the road. “We can watch a movie if you want. I think Jack is staying over tonight too.” A few minutes passed before Grayson spoke up again, “Can I hold your hand?” The request startled you but you smiled and offered your hand to him. He gripped it tightly and laced his fingers through yours. The size difference was almost comical and you laughed, “What’s up, Giggles?” He squeezed your hand quickly.
“My hand is really little in yours.” Your heart was beating erratically at being so close to Grayson and you were working on keeping your breathing neutral. Grayson looked down and nodded in agreement, a big smile on his face. The rest of the drive was spent in comfortable silence, Grayson’s playlist filling the silence. When Grayson pulled into the driveway you saw Jack’s car on the road. Some of the tension in your body was released when you saw it. Grayson opened the door for you and started to lead you inside but he stopped when the two of you reached the porch, “And for the record, Y/N, you’re not weak. Not in the slightest.” He placed a small kiss on the top of your head and you blushed. When the two of you made your way inside you saw Lisa and Sean waiting on the couch with Ethan and Jack sitting across from them.
“Y/N! Sweetie! Are you okay? Sean can you go get some ice? Ethan and Jack told me everything. I’m so sorry honey. Oh look at you.” Lisa ran a hand down your face gently, “You poor thing. Come here.” She guided you to the couch and Sean handed you some ice in a ziplock bag and you thanked him. “Are you okay? Do you need anything?” You shook your head at Lisa. She nodded and patted your leg, “You all should get some sleep. It’s late.” You thanked her as she walked up the stairs with Sean.
“You guys wanna watch a movie?” Grayson spoke up from beside you. Ethan and Jack nodded and Ethan went into the kitchen to make some popcorn.
“Are you guys…?” Jack looked between the two of you. Grayson nodded and you smiled at your brother, “Finally! I’ve been waiting for you two to figure your shit out for ages!” He punched the air a couple times and whooped.
Ethan came running in, “What happened?”
“Y/N and your brother are together!” Jack and Ethan jumped around dramatically, waving their hands around.
“We’re taking things slow right now, asshats.” Grayson rolled his eyes.
“Still! It’s about time!” Ethan called out, walking back to the kitchen, grabbing the popcorn and putting it into some bowls. Even though you had honestly been looking forward to a movie your eyes closed of their own accord as the title sequence started. You were asleep before the first line of the movie was spoken.

The Cove Part 6
‘I’m coming over in 10.’ You unlocked your phone, reading the text from Laura and sent back a smiley face. You looked in the mirror and surveyed your outfit. You paired a nice tank top with some jean shorts. Even though the party was at night it was still the middle of summer and you knew you’d be needing the shorts and tank top.
“Sis, you ready?” Jack called.
Grabbing your phone you slid it into your shorts and walked towards the stairs, “Yeah, Laura’s almost here. Is E on his way?” Jack nodded, looking at his phone. You went to the kitchen to get a bottle of water. The doorbell rang and you walked over to get it.
“Y/N! You ready?” Ethan smiled down at you.
You smiled back, “Yeah, Laura should be here soon.”
“She’s in the car.” Ethan stepped to the side and you saw Laura in the front seat. When she caught your eye she started to wave but then flipped you off at the last second. You rolled your eyes good-naturedly.
“Where’s Grayson?”
“He had to run an errand. He’s meeting us at the party, though.” You nodded as you walked out to the car, Jack following and Ethan leading the way.
When you arrived at the party music was blasting and people were mingling outside on the grass, “Who’s house is this?” You asked to no one in particular.
“Megan’s older sister. She’s out of town for the week and she told Megan she could have friends over.” Ethan explained. You nodded in understanding as you got out of the backseat. Laura linked arms with you and marched you up to the steps.
As soon as you walked in you were greeted by Megan’s smile, “Laura! Y/N! I’m so glad you guys are here! Want something to drink? There’s alcohol and other drinks in the kitchen.” She hugged you before walking off to greet other guests.
“Let’s get this party started!” Ethan yelled, coming up behind you. You smiled as he went to greet his friends with a handshake and a side-hug.  Laura pulled you to the kitchen and got a beer and handed you a can of lemonade. You smiled appreciatively and surveyed the people hanging around the kitchen and the connected living room. Some people were already drunk, some were getting there, you could tell. Laura had mentioned to you earlier that she wanted to get drunk at the party and you agreed to keep her from doing anything embarrassing.
It’d had been a few hours since you had arrived and Laura was sufficiently drunk. You had stopped her from dancing on a table without a top as well as stopping her from jumping in the pool. You were getting tired of watching her when Ethan came up to you and told you that he’d watch her for a while. You gave him a hug as thanks and wandered off to find some food and water.
“Having fun?” A voice behind you asked. You turned and saw Megan smiling at you.
“Yeah. It’s nice. Great music choice, by the way!” Megan laughed and gave you a warm hug.
“Hey where’s Grayson?” Megan turned to grab a drink from the bar in the kitchen. You had seen her with a drink in her hand all night but she didn’t seem drunk, or even tipsy.
“Um, I’m not sure. E said he had some errands to run. Shouldn’t you know?” You hoped that you weren’t coming off as rude.
Megan raised an eyebrow, “Why would I know?” She took a sip from her cup.
“Well…” you trailed off uncomfortably, “you two are together, aren’t you?” You scratched your arm, avoiding her eyes.
Megan coughed. When you looked at her she was smiling and holding her hand up to her mouth, “Oh my gosh, no! I have a boyfriend. Grayson is so not interested in me!”
“You… a boyfriend?” You stuttered out.
“Yeah! Harrison! He’s great! We’ve been together for three years!” She pulled out her phone and showed you her lock screen that showed a picture of a handsome boy kissing her cheek.
You let go of a breath that you didn’t know you were holding, “Oh.”
“Anyway, I think I heard a door close upstairs and there aren’t any bathrooms up there so that can only mean one thing. Talk later!” With that, Megan walked out and towards the stairs. You watched her until she disappeared upstairs, mind still reeling with what she had said. Grayson was single. It upped your chances with him, if only minutely.
“Hey, how’s the party treating you, babe?” You jumped when a hand snaked its way around your waist. The guy who had sidled up next to you was unfamiliar. You moved to your right, away from him. He followed, “Want something to drink? I made it myself.” You rolled your eyes, knowing that he probably did something to the drink.
“No I’m alright, I have some lemonade, thanks though.”
“Aw come on, cutie, that’s no fun, loosen up a little. I’m Dean, by the way.” He winked at you and you felt an uncomfortable shiver down your spine.
“I’m DD tonight.” You lied. Ethan was actually the DD but you wanted this guy to leave.
“I’m sure your friends will understand.” He kept trying to put his hand on your waist.
“It’s fine, please leave.” You asked, walking towards the living room where there were more people. You breathed a sigh of relief when you didn’t hear Dean, and looked behind to see if he was following you, he was. When you went to turn back you ran into something. You stumbled back into Dean and rubbed your nose. It was stinging from whatever you ran into.
“You falling for me, princess?” Dean smiled down at you. You tried to wiggle out of his grasp but he held on tight.
“Hey! Let go!” You looked up and saw Grayson standing there, a cup in his hand, glaring at Dean. Dean’s grasp slackened and you scrambled away from him and stood next to Grayson. You didn’t necessarily need Grayson’s protection but he made you feel safer.
“Whatever man, maybe you’ll have better luck with the prude.” Dean waved dismissively. You flinched at the insult but you were glad that he was finally leaving. Grayson stepped forward to say something but you grabbed his arm to tug him back. You couldn’t say anything when he looked back at you but he stopped and turned back to you.
“You okay? Did he do anything to you?” He put his hands on your upper arms and rubbed them.
“I- yeah,” you avoided his eyes, “he didn’t do anything, tried to slip me a drugged drink, I think, but I’m fine.” Grayson’s hands tightened when you told him about the drink.
“You didn’t drink it, did you?” He touched your cheek, looking into your eyes to make sure they weren’t glassy or dilated from whatever drug might have been in the drink. You shook your head at him, “Okay, okay. Do you want to leave? We could go get ice cream.” He suggested.
You nodded, “I’ll go get E and Laura.”
“I drove, we can just go right now.” You looked up at him, he was smiling softly at you. You nodded and he grabbed your hand, pulling you to the front door. “I parked down the street.” He pointed and you followed his finger, seeing the teal on his Bronco. He led you to the truck and opened the door for you.
“Grayson,” You said when he got in. He looked at you expectantly, “Haven’t you been drinking?”
“No, E and I don’t drink, it was water in the cup. It’s easier to have something in my hand so that people don’t push drinks on me.” You nodded, it was smart, you had to admit.
Grayson parked his truck in a space outside your favorite ice cream shop. You didn’t know how he knew, or if it was just a coincidence that he chose that particular one. Grayson ran around to your side and opened the door for you.
Once the two of you had ordered you sat at a small table outside and started eating. You so badly wanted to say something but you were frozen. You had talked to Grayson more in the past twenty-four hours than you had in the past four years combined. Quicker than you had anticipated you had become more comfortable around him.
“Did you finish your errands?” You asked into your ice cream.
Grayson looked you “My what?”
You swallowed the bite you had taken, “Eth said you had errands to run and that was why you were late to the party.”
“Oh. Oh yeah! Yeah errands. I finished them.” Grayson smiled at you and you looked away quickly. Grayson’s phone buzzed and you looked down to see a text from Ethan. He picked it up and unlocked it, reading the message, “Some people are going down to the beach right now, wanna go?”
You contemplated going. You didn’t really want to go to another party but you and Grayson were having a really nice time and wanted to continue to spend time with him. You were unsure if you’d still be able to talk to him after the night ended, “Who’s goin’?” Grayson was looking down at his phone, typing something, immersed in his conversation, “Gray?” You asked quietly.
Grayson’s eyes snapped to yours, “You’ve never called me that before.”
You blushed and looked down, “Oh, I’m sorry, it’s probably just a family nickname, isn’t it? I won’t-”
“No! No, I liked it.” he smiled gently at you, “What did you ask? Sorry, Ethan was bugging me about something...”
“Um, I asked who else was going to the beach.”
“Oh!” he looked down at his phone, “Jack, E, Laura, Nate, Alex, and Meg might meet up with us later, whenever the party ends. Do you want to go? If not I can just take you home.”
“Let’s go.” You finished your ice cream and stood up, he stood up with you and started walking to the car. As you reached his car he was standing on the passenger side, holding the door open, waiting for you to get in. You whispered a quiet thank you as he closed the door behind you before walking around to his side and climbing in. He started his car and made his way to the beach.

The Cove part 5
When you woke up you packed a notebook and a few pens in your bag along with a towel and a change of clothes. When you got to the lake the sun was barely peeking over the horizon and it made the sky a pretty orange color. You took in the beauty of the lake before stripping off your shoes and starting your jog along the beach. The water rippled along the shore and you matched your breathing to the pull of the water. There was a slight breeze that cooled your rapidly warming body. When you made your way around the large lake you climbed up the large rock formation that Grayson and Ethan often jumped off of that had been dubbed the Jumping Rock. When you reached the top you sat down to survey the scene in front of you. The sky had mostly cleared of the early morning clouds and the sun was almost fully up. As you let your breathing even out you let the serenity surround you. You laid back and closed your eyes, smiling contentedly.
You woke when a bird chirped particularly loudly. You hadn’t meant to fall asleep but the peacefulness had lulled you into a comfortable slumber. Based on how the sun had risen you guessed you had been asleep for less than an hour. Standing up you took backed up a few steps then took a running leap and flipped off of the rock into the water below. As you resurfaced you took off into your laps, pushing yourself extra hard. When you were tired out you made your way to your cove, making sure you had your notebook with you to carry on the conversation. It reminded you of school when somebody would write something on the desk in the class before you and you would have a mini conversation until somebody cleaned the desks and the conversation would disappear.
Settling into your cove you began writing, ‘I thought I was the only one who had discovered this place, for sure. It’s a wonder that we haven’t crossed paths in here before. Thank you for not taking my book, I need it to help me fall asleep at night. I’ve read it at least 20 times, easily. And don’t worry, I want this cove to remain a secret just as much as you. I come here to think a lot, and it’s completely hidden from anybody in the lake or standing on the beach. I brought this notebook so that we could talk more… if you want. I’ll leave the pen here too. Talk soon, D.” You signed the page with a one-dimensional wave like the one that hung around your neck. When you were much younger your parents had gotten you a ring with a wave bent into it but you grew out of it quickly. It still meant a lot to you so you put it on a chain and let it hang around your neck so it was always with you. You glanced up from the page when you heard shouting from the beach. Grayson and Ethan had arrived with about twenty other friends, one of which was setting up a bluetooth speaker and playing a Kid Cudi song. You swayed along to the music and watched the group mess around, laughing and pushing each other playfully. Your happy mood deflated when you saw Megan jump out of Ethan’s BMW and make her way towards him. He smiled when she put her hand on his shoulder and hugged her tightly. You jumped when your phone chimed. Jack had texted you, ‘come out from your hiding place, there’s tons of people, you’ll have fun.” Sighing you started to pack up your things but stopped when you accidentally kicked the notebook. You didn’t know what made you do it but you started writing, you wrote about Grayson, how amazing he was, how you froze when you talked to him. About his brother that was the sweetest thing in the world how you didn’t understand how you could carry on a conversation with Ethan but not Grayson. You spilled about Megan and how you wanted to hate her but she was too nice, and you even admitted that her and Grayson would be the perfect couple. You told D that your brother was always looking out for you and wanted to make sure you were comfortable around Grayson but you didn’t think that you would ever be. Of course, you changed all the names to keep your identity and everybody else’s a secret. The chances that this person knew who Grayson, Ethan, Megan, or your brother were was too great, you couldn’t risk outing yourself to somebody who knew Grayson. When you looked at what you had written you noticed that you had written more than a page. You added a little note, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t know why I’m telling you all of this, I just needed to get it off my chest I guess.’ You signed a wave again before grabbing your bag and heading down to the beach.
“Y/N! You’re here! How have you been?” Your friend, Laura, greeted you. She had been in Paris for the summer and you hadn’t been in contact. You and her hadn’t been best friends in school, but she was kind and bubbly and her happy demeanor was infectious.
“Laura! How was Paris? Tell me everything.” She grabbed your hands and led you to to a bench.
“So on the plane ride there I met this guy! His name’s Tom, he’s British. He was going to Paris and it turns out we were staying in the same hotel! So we talked to whole way there, well, until I fell asleep on him...” she trailed off, “Anyway! When we landed he asked if he could take me out for some food and gelato and of course I said yes who do you think I am? So we had pasta and pizza and he even got me to try escargot. Not as bad as you’d think. We spent nearly every day together and we’re planning on meeting up again soon. He wants me to come to London!” She pulled out her phone and showed you her lockscreen. It was a picture of Laura and who you assumed was Tom. He was smiling widely, he had light brown hair that had a slight wave to it. His arm was around her and you could tell that she was blushing in the photo.
“You guys are so cute! So are you official? Did he ask you out?” You gushed, handing her phone back to her.
She shrugged, “We agreed to wait until we could be together without the distance. I’m going to London for college in the fall anyway so it’s not that long to wait.” You could tell that Laura was upset about it but you agreed that it was probably better to wait until the distance wasn’t as big of a factor anymore.
“He’s cute, girl! I hope I can meet him soon!” Laura beamed at you and nodded enthusiastically.
Laura gestured to the Jumping Rock, “Wanna jump?” You beamed back at her and pulled her towards the trail that led to the rock. When the two of you had reached the top she winked at you and ran to the edge, flipping off backwards and spinning through the air before gracefully diving into the clear water. People cheered as she resurfaced and then looked to you, waiting for your move. You took a deep breath and backed up a few steps. Moving forward you leaped off and tucked in and twisted sideways, flipping twice you moved into a forward tuck. You untucked right before you were about to hit the water and dove in gracefully. The water surrounded you and opened your eyes beneath the surface. You kicked your legs to move yourself upwards and broke the surface. People were looking at you and Laura swam over you.
“Where the hell did you learn to do that? What the fuck! That was amazing.” More people moved towards you asking you to teach them how to do the trick you had just executed. You blushed when you caught eyes with Ethan who had his mouth open. Jack was clapping wildly next to him. When you looked over to Grayson he was beaming at you but your euphoria at his attention diminished when you saw Megan on his back, Grayson’s hands wrapped around her thighs protectively. You turned back to Laura and smiled widely. She jumped on your shoulders which caused you to go underwater. However, you had taken a breath as she jumped on your shoulders which subsequently made you inhale a mouthful of water. You came up coughing and spluttering, “Oh god, sorry!” Laura laughed, not sounding the least bit sorry. You shrugged it off and laughed with her. “Let’s get food.” She suggested and the two of you swam towards the beach.
“That was amazing, Y/N!” Jack was waving his arms enthusiastically.
“Who taught you to do that?” Ethan grabbed you from behind and twirled you around before putting you back down.
“I come here a lot even when it’s not summer. I guess I’ve just been able to practice a lot. Took a few nasty back and belly flops to really nail it, though.” You laughed. Ethan laughed and bumped your side, “Let’s eat.” Laura and Jack followed him over but as you were about to walk away you felt a hand wrap itself around your upper arm. Turning, you saw Grayson looking concerned.
“Are you okay?” Grayson asked gently, dropping your arm. You nodded, confused. Why wouldn’t you be okay? “I saw you take in some water back there,” he gestured to the water, “just wanted to make sure you were okay after that. I know you have asthma.” You were shocked, you had never told Grayson that you had asthma but you presumed that Jack had mentioned it ages ago; not to mention the fact that he even cared about your asthma and the incident, if it could be called that. You nodded again and tried for a smile though you thought it might’ve come out as more of a grimace. Grayson nodded and placed his hand on your lower back,  walking with you towards the bench where hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, vegetables, and fruit had been laid out, as well as some drinks. Laura had saved you a seat and Grayson squeezed in on your other side, hand still resting lightly on your back.
Jack, who was sitting across from you, looked between the two of you and spoke up, “Where’s Meg, Gray?”
Grayson looked up, “She had to go home. She’ll probably come to the party later. Are you going?” He turned to you and you froze with a mouthful of food. You looked at Jack then to Laura. You weren’t aware that there was a party at all.
Jack spoke up, “We’ll be there.” You nodded at Grayson and he beamed at you and you blushed furiously, ducking your head. Grayson dropped his arm to eat and your back was cold from the lack of his body warmth.
“Do you want to ride over together?” Ethan asked around a mouthful of burger.
“Chew before you speak E!” Laura reprimanded and you giggled. Ethan chewed and swallowed before asking again. Jack and Laura nodded and Ethan made plans to pick everybody up and drive to the party.
As people were getting ready to leave you told Jack you’d meet him at home and tried to slip away unnoticed. Ethan caught you, however, “Where are you running off to?”
“I left something at the other end of the lake earlier. I’ll be back soon.” Ethan eyed you suspiciously but let you go with a smile and a hug nonetheless. You hustled to your cove to see if D had written back. You huffed in disappointment when you found that there was no reply but picked your stuff up and loaded it into your car. As you were about to back out your car door opened and you jumped in surprise. Turning your head you saw Grayson climbing in.
“Mind if I ride with you? Ethan is in a mood and the only person that can stand to be around his is Jack, somehow.” You furrowed your eyebrows, Ethan hadn’t seemed upset when he was talking to you just a minute ago. When Grayson put his seatbelt on you backed out of your spot and started down the road to your house. When you entered yours and Grayson’s neighborhood he spoke up again, “If you just drop me off here I’ll walk the rest of the way to my house.” You looked at him and shook your head. The Dolan house wasn’t far from yours but you’d still feel bad making him walk.
“No, I’ll take you to your house, it’s not a big deal.” Your voice cracked and you kept your eyes focused on the road.
“I think that’s the first time you’ve ever spoken to me.” Grayson joked, “Was scared you didn’t like me.”
You coughed, “No! I mean, I like you, you’re nice, and funny. I’m just…” You trailed off, face red and heart stuttering in your chest.
“Shy.” Grayson finished for you, “I know, Jack told me that was what was going on. But you don’t have a problem talking to Ethan.” You searched your brain for an excuse. You couldn’t tell him why you were incapable of talking to him without telling him that you had had a crush on him for years.
“I’ve had classes with E. He and I were lab partners for three years in science class. I guess I just got more comfortable around him.” You hoped that would pacify Grayson for now.
“Well I hope that you can get that comfortable around me soon.” Grayson smiled and you realized that you had pulled up in front of his house, “Thanks for the ride, Y/N. I’ll see you later?” You nodded, “Promise?” He asked, holding out his pinky finger, waiting for you to link yours with it. You smiled shyly and hooked your small finger around his. He tightened it and winked, stepping out of the car and closing the door behind him. You watched him walk inside. It was ten minutes before you could finally feel your toes enough to drive away from the curb and to your house.

The Cove Part 4
“Jack!” You turned to see Ethan waving as he walked down the beach, Grayson behind him and Cameron behind Grayson. Jack didn’t hear Ethan but you offered him a friendly wave as he approached yours and Jack’s set-up on the beach.
“Hey, E. What’s up?” He brought you in for a quick hug.
“Nothing much, ready for a swim. It’s hot!” As if to prove his point he took his baseball cap off and fanned his face. You nodded in agreement, going silent when Grayson joined you two. You looked around desperately for Jack. Cameron greeted you and you gave a small wave, still unwilling to speak around Grayson. Ethan and Cameron ran towards the water to meet Jack which left you with Grayson. You shuffled from side to side, trying to find the will to speak, but every time you thought of something your mouth couldn’t form the right words.
“Wanna head down to the water?” Grayson asked softly. You nodded and turned to walk to the lake, Grayson taking his shirt off and following you.
“What are you doing guys! Last one in is a rotten egg.” Ethan called out, already chest-deep in the water. You rolled your eyes at his juvenile jab. You heard footsteps behind you and felt two strong arms wrap around you and lift you up and over a shoulder. You were now staring at Grayson’s strong back, being bounced around. A few steps later you were fully submerged in the water and came up spluttering and moving your hair out of your eyes. You smiled at Grayson and giggled lightly at the bright smile that covered his face.
Hours had passed since your brother and the Dolans had arrived and the lake and beach were getting more packed by the minute. You were starting to get tired from treading water for hours on end but you couldn’t bring yourself to get out quite yet. Jack, Ethan, and Cameron had all since gotten out which left you with Grayson as company. Jack kept a watchful eye on you to make sure you weren’t too uncomfortable being alone with Grayson. He didn’t have to worry, however, because Megan had come to the lake less than an hour ago and had captured Grayson’s attention. Megan was everything you thought you weren’t. She was confident, her hair always gleaming in the sun, smile always present. She was also one on the most personable people you knew. She was kind and always open to a conversation, she was so nice and you couldn’t hate her. Her and Grayson had been… something since the beginning of high school. You didn’t know if they were ever an item, if they had hooked up, or just good friends. Not even Jack knew what their relationship was. When Megan had jumped into the water Grayson immediately swam over to her and hadn’t left her side since. You wanted to be upset that he had her attention but you couldn’t blame him. First, Megan was gorgeous, and second, she could actually carry a conversation with your longtime crush.
You sighed as you watch Grayson laugh with Megan. He lifted her up and you watched his arms and back flex, his muscles moving under his skin. You swallowed, looking away quickly. Jack caught your eye and you gave him a look. Luckily he knew what you meant, even with just a quick glance. You began to swim towards a more isolated part of the lake that not many people frequented or even knew about. The rocks began to close in on the lake and at one point they completely blocked the lake. You turned back to the main part of the lake to make sure that nobody had followed you. Taking a deep breath you dove down a few meters and opened your eyes. There was a little opening in the rocks and you wiggled your way through quickly. Jack knew that you had your own places around the lake but never followed you to them, understanding just what they meant to you. When you resurfaced it was like you were at an entirely different lake. The rocks blocked out most of the sounds that were coming from where everybody was; the water was clearer and a bit cooler than the main part of the lake but not unbearably so. As you floated on your back you enjoyed the peacefulness that surrounded you, the birds were chirping and every once in a while a fish would swim up to the surface and make a small splash.
Eventually it was time for you to go home and leave your safe haven. You made a mental note to bring paper and a pen the next day to write back to the person who also knew the location of your secret cove.
