Welcome to Isabel Pascay, an indigenous fifteen-year-old in a rural village in Guatemala. She loves school but has had to miss a couple of weeks in order to take care of her mother, who is ill.

The doll is from the small Guatemalen fair trade company terraexperience.com. They sell dolls, 18" doll clothes, and some other neat stuff like doll bedspreads and hand looms. The sewists and weavers sell their products to help out their families. A human-sized huipil takes a lot of time to make and is also expensive, out of range as a souvenir for a lot of tourists. But a 1:3 scale huipil is a different matter.

I debated for a long time whether to invent a backstory for my doll or make her character be based on a book. In the end, I don't know much about how a modern Mayan person lives...I've interacted casually with Mayan people involved with the tourist industry in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico but don't know enough to write a story. So I'm using the books Among the Volcanoes and Imagining Isabel by Omar S. Costañeda for my doll's story.

Space Traders Pt1

I needed to change this.. I wrote this really late!

If someone close to you dies of cancer you now have emotion towards that cause. We care about things that are close to us. This was shown in the film The Space Traders. They wait for aliens to show up. The president talks to the space traders, and they want everyone who has melanin. The offer is non-negotiable from the aliens. The Black politician Mr. Oreo, points out that his reasoning is different from the rest of the politicians because he was the only black representative. The politicians don’t know fully if they are being tricked by aliens or if they are being truthful. But the white politicians don’t care, they just want security for themselves. This is an example of interest conversion theory, the theory that if you have interests in something you’ll back it up.

Eventually the aliens made the Statue of Liberty into gold, costing trillions of dollars. 100 Black families would be sent to England for protection allegedly… The aliens wanted a complexion close to a brown paper bag. The professor/politician realizes they don’t need his help, because they are capitalist first, caucasian second. Plus Black people had an impact on the economy being workers and consumers in their communities. One person even says white people will be at the bottom instead of black people. “They may not like us but they can’t live without us.” The daughter tells the mom Guatemalens to clean up houses nowadays. Professor/politician Oreo talks about how white people demand better pay, better neighborhoods, but also bite our culture. And then says white people will be jealous that we will go to space, and we will flourish. Essentially Mr. Oreo, essiantially killed 20 million Americans to be sent to space, and everyone voted from their home. Yes or no over the phone. Collection centers were then made the next day. One carry on per person. Professor Oreo betrayed his people to save his capitalist friends and excommunicated his wife. They palmed the wifes face like a basketball in the process, the funniest thing I've seen. But Sickening in the procsess. Black people then unload to the beach off yellow school buses. The black news anchor is now white and professor Oreo on a UFO. Professor Due talks about how she showed this after Trump was elected and how it felt real. We are in 2022 and UFOs are public national security threats and trump is running for reelection. Sickening!

here we have a genre whose origins are so diverse and unknowable - part Taino, part west African, part *ugh* Spanish - and it’s making people dance all over the world

and it’s in my blood. it’s in my VEINS.

Alright not to Project but hear me out: the Addams Family (2019) rings to me as a Jewish story. The Addams have to flee the Old Country to avoid violence, then in their new home, the white blonde lady spreads lies and conspiracies to turn the town against them. One of the major plot points revolves around what is essentially Pugsley's bar mitzvah (called a Mezurka in the film, a coming of age ceremony for Addamses.)

This isn't to say its strictly Jewish, of course any persecuted minority can relate, only that I am Jewish and relate. Also one can easily be Jewish and Guatemalen (I say that because Oscar Issac is Gomez and is Guatemalan) or whatever else at the same time.
