Daniel 1 - 3

Welcome to the Daily Audio bible Chronological, I'm China. Today is the 14th day of September, welcome. Great to be here with you today. I hope you had a great time yesterday where we left off just to spend some time with the Lord. I don't know if you listened to yesterday's podcast. I would encourage you to really felt the Lord was speaking kind of corporately and also individually. But yes, I really hope that that was a good time. You are a journaler, that you journaled, and if you're someone who is a verbal processor like I am, that you were able to verbally process that with the Lord. But anyways, I am excited about today. Just another day in the word of the Lord and excited to be here with you today. But today we are in the book of Daniel we're in chapters one through three, continuing on with the New International Version for this week.

Commentary

This story is crazy in a way that I have not even fully ever really understood. So if we go all the way back to the beginning of the story so we're reading about Daniel, Daniel's training in Babylon. So there is a choosing of some men, and they are going to be trained for three years, and then they're going to enter the king's service. And so some of these people who are going to be some of these men who were chosen from Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah, which is kind of like, oh, they're all together, they're buddies. Let's follow them. Let's follow them around and see what story comes to be. And this is the part of scripture where I'm like, this is incredible. I mean, all of it is truly incredible. So Daniel, he's not going to defile himself with this royal food and royal wine. He asked the chief official from permission to not defile himself, basically saying, can I have permission to not eat this. And the official is like, Listen, my lord, the king who's assigned your food and drink, I'm afraid of him. Why should he see you looking worse than any other young men your age? He would have my head because of you. Basically saying, dude, I'm afraid of this guy. Please don't look worse than these other people. Just do it, please, so that the king doesn't kill me. That's kind of like what's happening here. And then Daniel speaks to the guard whom the chief official appointed over Daniel and Hananiah and Mishael and Azariah. He's like, please test us. Give us nothing but vegetables and water to drink. So this is kind of what we call now modern day the Daniel fast. And so they have this test that they ask for. And then at the end of the time of the test, they appeared to be better looking than all the other men that were in training with, which I'm like, okay, interesting, weird flex, Daniel, but okay. And so then at the end of this time the king brings them into his service. Chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar, the king talked with them and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. So I'm not sure how many men there were but apparently these four are shining bright every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom. And Daniel remained there until his first year of King Cyrus. So then in the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar is having these dreams which feels very much like a foreshadowing to Pharaoh when Joseph is having these dreams in totally different stories but that feels somewhat similar, right where he's expected to or someone else will have these dreams and they don't get interpreted the right way. And then there's like death involved. It's like this threatening with death if you don't get what I dreamed correctly and interpret it, you're going to die. And then there's a man of God who steps in and says this is what it means, here you go. And then they're promoted. That's exactly what happened to Daniel. And then so really, this shows that Daniel has favor with the king and also God gets the glory through Daniel's life like he is saying I'll interpret your dream. Sure, here's what it means. And so he gets promoted, he goes away. So this is the part of the story that feels interesting to me. I'm not sure how much time passes, I don't know, I can make a guess but I feel like it would not even be close to what is real. We end chapter two with moreover at request, at Daniel's request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon while Daniel himself remained at the royal court. So then it enters into chapter three and immediately King Nebuchadnezzar is setting up an image of gold ye-high ye-wide and he's setting it in the province of Babylon. He's saying whenever you hear music you are going to bow down to this thing. Like right after he has this moment of the Lord's glory being revealed to him and Daniel gets promoted and then it's like boom, Nebuchadnezzar is like I'm going to make this image of gold and everybody should worship it. And these three men who he already had favor like they already were, he never said he was impressed by them because they were ten times more wise than any other bozos. The worst looking ones that were eating royal food and drink, they have this favorite, they already have this twinkle in the kings eye and then they don't bow down and then there is a threaten and there's a following up with what he said. You're going into the blazing fire, into the blazing furnace and what's so crazy to me is the whole thing is wild, right? There's people dying just because they're throwing them into the fire yet these men are not even being touched. Like, no hair is being singed. There's no smell of smoke, which is wild. That is a miracle. But the part that really gets me every single time is I thought we put three men down there. Yeah, we did. Okay, well, there's a fourth one down there, and he looks like a son of the gods. Okay, so are we seeing Jesus in this fire right now? So this is the part that really I'm sure there's so much debate and theological standpoints on that I won't get into, but this story is just incredible and amazing. And if anything, it's like faith, elevating, and also just like the great length that the Lord will go to to get his name revealed. And I'm just so thankful for these men who lived honest lives and who were committed to the point of death for the Lord and his will.

Prayer

Lord, I thank you for the sweet truth that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. And I thank you for these men's stories, their lives that they committed before you and just all the signs and the wonders that you performed before them and that you ultimately received the glory. And God, I just thank you for that. And I pray that that just gives us the encouragement that regardless of any situation, any leadership position or training position, I thank You, God, that we can invite you into it and we can serve you faithfully and that we do not have to fear man. And Lord, I just thank you for that, and it's in Your name we pray, amen.

Heavenly Father, we just come to you right now and we just ask oh, my God, that you will help her husband find the right job. Lord, she's worried about him and rightfully so. And, you know, and you can help him. And God, we're just praying and believing that you have something big and better for him and father with her son who has autism. I have a son who's 27. And I just want to encourage you, Amanda, because my son was diagnosed with Asperger's way long time ago, very young, at a very young age, and I ended up having to take the option of putting him on medication. And I don't know that I did the right thing, but he went through regular school, he went through college, he learned to drive, and now he's working for the state. So I don't know if that was the option you were talking about, but I hope that you will not feel bad by taking a medicine that could help these kids to do better in school. I sometimes wonder if I did the right thing or not. I may never know. But I know that my son is definitely better on the medication than he is without it. I'm really hit by your story, and I'm just uplifting you and I pray for you and your husband. And I just want to say to Carla, who called in for the first time, who just listens. Guys I know this is desperate and pathetic but I seriously need help here… I feel so lost and confused and just I don’t know what to do….my mental health has been at a all time high with my illness getting worse. I went on a leave of absences after my job told me I’d be covered for it. Only for them to “forget” I was a part time and they wouldn’t be able to pay me unless I have “Covid?” Pulling the rug underneath me. Now I can’t afford my medication I have bills piling up and I Jaír feel so fucking lost. If you can please help me spread the word that mental illness should be treated like a disability. I suffer from schizophrenia and my father did as well. He was kept in mental facility almost all his life and ended up dying in there. Struggling all his life im at the age were everything is hitting me harder. And I can’t seem to catch a break.

What do you see when you look at my breakfast? Nice and fancy right? Breakfast like breakfast? Let me tell you the story behind it. 2 weeks ago I came back from work and burst out with tears, I felt so desperately lonely. Haven’t seen my family for over 1,5 years, living by myself, stressful work, holiday season and I was all alone. I needed a hug. So, for the first time in my life I posted on Instagram stories about how I felt and I got so much love and support from you guys! One of the messages I got was from a restaurant. Umbrella Family @umbrella_rest ☂️☂️☂️ offered me free breakfast for 2 people and told me to be happy. This is kindness that we need to share especially during these times. And this is why after receiving so much love and support I made a resolution for 2021 to start being kinder to other people. Maybe one kind word or action will not change the world, it surely will change the world for one person. So the first person I thought about was Teodora. Her father died last year, and she couldn’t travel to meet her family since corona thing started. We were having our breakfast and then boom - the waiters are bringing us birthday cake and 2 cakes for me!!! It was such a big surprise, because Teodora’s birthday was 1 day ago. It was totally unexpected, we were so happy and excited! I felt I’m not alone anymore. This love and support means a lot when you’re living and working in a foreign country and people treat you like you’re their family ❤️ We were almost crying and felt so much gratitude 🙏🏻 I know you will ask me - now what all restaurants are offering free breakfast when you’re sad? New IT AU

So I can’t stop thinking about if in the future they decide to remake IT again (and let’s face it, it feels like the only thing that happens with movies is remakes it’s entirely possible. If we can have 6 millions spider-man movies, we can have more IT).

But what if 1) it was mainly female losers because that’s really the story we deserve 2) its updated/changed so like the reason they’re “losers” and ostracized by their classmates makes more sense for when it would be set (like imagine the beginning being set around this time). 

Richie (Rachel/Rach): I mean, we all know a loud mouth kid that makes inappropriate comments like Richie. But it’s always a guy. When girls make comments like that they’re judge way harsher and told to be more ladylike. Plus, ADHD is often missed in young girls so I’d love to see a female character with ADHD. Plus a relationship between female Richie and female Eddie deserves to be told at some point. Also female Richie would 100% say suck my dick all the time while making vine references even though she never had a vine account.

Bev (Brently/Brent): What if Bev was a trans man? Bev’s dad being a transphobic dick making comments about ‘his little girl’. 

Bill (Isabela/Izzy/Iz): Bill being a first generation kid who maybe didn't know all lot of English when she started school. Instead of a stutter, she struggles with the language barrier. And even though she learns English quick enough she’s still bullied/harrassed because of the political climate.

Stan (Samara/Sam): (edited based on ask) Literally just Stan as a woman, because @bichie‘s right, we need Jewish leads! And I feel like we need more woman Jewish characters, but that may just be me. 

Mike (Mishael): (added based on ask) Islamic Mike. Give us more main characters who wear hijabs tbh. 

Ben (Bethany/Beth): (added later) was overweight throughout high school and bullying lead to an eating disorder in college She overcame (there may be better word, but I can’t remember it right now) her disorder only for feelings to resurface when she returns to Derry. 

I don’t know about the other three because I just thought of this today. I just love the idea of an alternate story because we’ve heard the original story told three different times now. So making changes/updates to the characters would be so interesting. 

I would also love if it were a televison series that allowed them to go more in depth about their traits and why Pennywise manifested the way he did or said the things he did based on their characterization.

But also since they were older in the newest movies what if they were like 16 in this one so there was content of them being kids but then we get to see the losers as friends in high school. And instead of Silver, Bill drives a shitty old car they all call rusty.

I don’t know, I could come up with a million different stories based on this, what do you y’all think?

Rachel stretched her legs out on the dash of Isabel’s (Bill) car. She’d hit her growth spurt early and no one really caught up. Five years later and she was still a gangly mess. 

“Iz, your car is a piece of shit.” 

“At least I have a car, Rach.” 

“Well I’m gay, so jot that down.” 

“Yeah, and you turned left on a red light during your test.”

“The guy said to turn, Izzy. Was I not supposed to?” Isabel gave Rachel an exasperated look. “Fine, where did you get a gun? Do you even know how to shoot a gun?”

“It’s my dad’s, yes I can shoot it, and before you ask I brought it because I am not going into that creepy ass house with a demon chasing us if I don’t have a gun.”

Beth (Ben) was fiddling with her phone. The headphones were cutting out, but she was just trying to make it home. The last day of the school year and she escape the bullies for the summer. She turned the corner, running into Brent Marsh. 

“Woah, watch where you’re going new kid,” he laughed. Beth blushed, looking away. “What are you listening to?” Beth didn’t answer and Brent looked at her phone. “One direction. They broke up right?” Beth nodded. “Well, it’s the End of the Day new kid. You might want to head home.” 

Brent turned to walk away and Beth struggled to think of something clever. “I want to know Everything About You!” She called, but Brent didn’t hear. “That’s another One Direction song.”

Pratt, a religious Christian beloved for his starring turns on “Parks And Recreation” and in “Guardians Of The Galaxy” shared via his Instagram story that he has been following the diet. “Hi, Chris Pratt here. Day three of the Daniel Fast, check it out, it’s 21 days of prayer and fasting,” he said, adding, “It’s going to coincide also, coincidentally, with the ‘Lego Movie 2’ junket, so by the time you see me I’ll probably be hallucinating.”

...But the list of the things you can eat on the “Daniel Fast” includes, besides vegetables and many other things, pasta, rice, tofu, popcorn, and peanut butter. You could have a lot of Mexican food on this diet. This isn’t a fast! A fast is when you can’t eat and you lay down on the ground until an gray-haired shammas stabs you with your cane and says “Remember you’re in shul young lady!”

The “Daniel Fast” is, at best, a fast-and-loose approach to Sephardi Passover.

...And where does the 21 days thing come from? In the text they do it for ten days, and then keep it up for just under three years.

...And why do they call it a “Daniel Fast” when it is not a fast and “Daniel Diet” was right there!?

And why has this issue brought up for this vegetarian Jew such deep-seated resentment and aggression towards what is no doubt a perfectly lovely spiritual tradition? Why do I find questions bubbling up like — why is it okay for a religion to appropriate another’s entire religious text and then make up quasi-spiritual weight loss programs from them?

This is not a fast. This...this is just veganism. You’re not going to hallucinate, you absolute knobhead. Try observing Ramadan during the summer! Try observing Yom Kippur in Arizona! Ridiculous.

And they don’t seem to even understand the passage/story from which the “fast” comes. It has nothing to with getting closer to God. After the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar had captured Jerusalem, he ordered his guard to capture a few Jews who would then basically be imprisoned for three years while they were educated before they were to “enter the king’s service.” You know, slavery. King Nebuchadnezzar ordered that Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah be given food and wine directly from his food and wine. Daniel refused because alternatively there was a worry the food would not be kosher or because the wine was used for libations to idols. My personal reading is that it’s because he didn’t want to eat and drink food from the guy who had occupied his people, home, and (again) STOLEN AND ENSLAVED HIM AND THREE OTHER JEWISH PEOPLE. I wouldn’t want to eat his food either.

Who’s Pratt refusing food from? Who captured his home, his person, and is forcing him to learn a new language and culture for three years before entering into forced servitude?

Where do these people get this shit?

Day 9

Proverbs 9. Hey guys, today is day nine in our series called "The Book of Wisdom." Today I really want to talk about what it means to fear the Lord. This whole book talks about two things. The first thing that the Book talks about is wisdom. Specifically between the Lord and the world. In the past eight days, we have already seen that the wisdom of the world is nothing compared to the wisdom of the Lord. The reason this is is that the Lord knows everything. The second thing that the book talks about is having "Fear of the Lord." What it means to fear in the Lord is not necessarily being scared of the Lord. What fearing the Lord means is not wanting to disappoint or sin against the Lord. It says in Proverbs chapter 9:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." It tells us that if we Fear in the Lord, will be wise not because of ourselves but because the Lord will lead the way. In verse eleven it states "For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life." It tells us that if we have wisdom in the Lord, our life will be rich. Now, this does not mean that we will be rich or even live long lives. It also does not mean that you will not face trials in your life. I like to argue that the deeper that your relationship gets with Christ, the more the enemies are going to attack. It just means that your life will be prosperous. What I mean by this is that the Lord is going to be with you just like he was with the disciples. Just like he was with Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah or more commonly known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Just like he was with these people, God is going to be with you. He will never leave you nor will he forsake you.

Back to Panamindorah art. I did these to take a break from both the commission and my Prophet project (for which more wips will be forthcoming). I wanted to draw a mixture of characters from Prophet, Cowry Catchers, and the Refugees books so, well, I did.

This is casual stuff. These aren't to scale I should say - the weird size differences are not how I interpret the character's sizes or anything. There's a bit of awkwardness, hopefully forgivable for something that was just for fun.

Aside from the topmost image, the rest follow the theme of dysfunctional, biological families. These aren't the whole families, just some of the key members. This is not found families. The pictures would likely be bigger and happier... though biological members of these families would certainly feature. Some reconciliations were made. Others were not. Some might yet be made (mostly looking at Chance and Istra there).

Minor spoilers from Jager, but both Mishael and Glossy's stories were so good. So much of Jager was good but I loved those parts.

I could ramble on but I'm trying to avoid doing that. These are just my current interpretations of the characters' appearances, save for those who've already been illustrated by Sarah Cloutier (I try and keep them reasonably in line with her versions... though it helps that her illustrations influence the imagine whilst reading, rather than after doing so.

I have a lot of emotions for most of these families. But as said, no rambling. Better go back to my project.

I was considering doing a, uh, special themed picture for May the 17th but I probably won't get it done or have the time. It's my birthday and the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia, etc (I can believe I was born then. Luck was on my side). So you guys almost got stuck with a rainbows + a handful of Panamindorah's LGBT characters. Maybe it could be belated? Very belated.

There you go though. A glimpse into the silly self-indulgent things I consider doing.  And I did ramble about something even less related.

Guys you are going to have to be so patient with me. It's been a really rough week with more panic attacks than I would like, and many breakdowns. On a unrelated note, today is going to be so tough for me. Today marks 9 years since Michael Jackson died, and it may sound really stupid to you, but just think of it like this- (it feels as bad as loosing Taylor or a father figure-) Mishael has taught me so much and the reality is that there is no possible way to meet him or even contact him. I don't really have much of a father figure at home considering my dad hates me, so I really try to find advice in Michael's music, and right now Mike and Taylor are the only ones keeping me running. 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards: The Complete Winners List

The 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards are here!

Entertainment Tonight took home the award for Outstanding Entertainment News Program for the fourth time, after winning in 2014, 2015 and 2017, joining a score of other big winners that included daytime staples, from soaps to talk shows and more. The nominees were announced last month on The Talk, which is itself nominated for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show.

Sheryl Underwood and Mario Lopez returned for their second year in a row to host Sunday's event, held on Sunday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, to honor the best in daytime television.
