hbggg wanna write America and Australia asking old ppl (Scotland and prussia, china maybe) about the first high explosives which ends in them making fulminating gold and silver in scotlands garage, they get out the aqua reigis it's a fucking blast (ba dum tss).
But I don't have the chemistry knowledge
#Rather I do have the chemistry knowledge I just dont know how to convey it without sounding like a paper#pls send help I hate having science brainrot#The heam speaks#For context culminating silver is incredibly reactive. If you touch it with a lighted splint even if its wet it'll just fukin detonate on#Jack would love watching Gilbert and Alisdair argue about how to make fulminating silver and Alfred would be taking notes bc he wants#Imagine your uncle and some other crusty dude yelling at each other about how not to handle high explosives. Then it detonated#Everyone knows mercury fulminate they probably wouldn't go through that#WAIT THOSE 4 WOULD HAVE A SCIENCE CHANNEL#Alfred would go on 2 hour long explanations about astrophysics#And with Gilbert and alisdair they could easily talk for hours on shitty video quality about machines and their mechanisms and their histor#Gilbert and alisdair would have a whole series “What not to do with chemistry” basically making a lot of explosives#And things of questionable legal standing. Like carbon tetra chloride because we know alisdair doesn't throw shit out and probably has some#Organo-phosphates and other highly dangerous chemicals and compounds banned in the 60s to 90s in his shed#Alfred just casually talks about nuclear reactions.#Jack and guest appearances of zee would be examining animal and human biology in a sory of crack head way that people love.#He has a pretty large base of people who watch his videos. Short and quick forward but genuinely educational#While people like me are going to watch Alfred go on for hours about isotopes and allo tropes and isomers fission fusion the whole lot.#Alisdair and Gilbert's velideos constantly toe the line of legality. There is a lot if swearing and questionable health and safety

A heartfelt and grievously expanded-upon update to this—please, please read the whole thing if you can. reblogs much appreciated.
(DISCLAIMER, for all who are saying reasons like abusive parents/legal stuff/toxic ex/triggering memories/page got deleted/job/stalkers/bullying/[[insert any other shitty life thing]], This is not concerning that—personal safety & health ALWAYS comes first, and is worth more than any media ever could be. This is my biggest reason for defending that autonomy. I would be a hypocrite to say I hadn’t deleted triggering posts of mine or ones that got me in trouble with my family.)
it genuinely makes me sad and kinda upset when someone purges all their old art off the internet like. barring harmful content what if someone liked that. What if someone would have. And now nobody will ever know and it's just gone. even people's old invader zim askblogs or whatever getting deleted feels like a micro alexandria to me and that's just something I made up. I wasn't even thinking of a specific one it just stresses me out. Is this the autism I don't get why nobody else seems to freak internally abt it like I do. I see artists whose blogs I've never even looked at go like "man so glad I deleted all my old stuff it's so clean" or saying they throw out art from when they were kids I'm like. how are you not hurling. How is that not distressing that is literally your tree rings why would you do that. I want to see what's out there. people want to see it I promise someone out there likes it
...don't they??? Does everyone get quietly irrationally upset by this as me, or is this just hyperfixation/autism/some amalgam of the two. I'm not a hoarder or obsessive compulsive or anything like that so i wonder..
Anyways. reblog if you had a favorite amateur youtube animator in your childhood whose channel got nuked without a trace one day that you still think about.
I wanted to attach this video because it condenses my point very well. A TLDR of sorts. Please watch the whole thing, it genuinely changed the entire way I think about art as a concept.
(2nd vid is "Subjectivity in Art")
“The moment your art touches an audience, the ownership shifts in an irreversible way. [They're] not having an art experience with you and your intentions. They're having an art experience with the art object.
“You can't just burn your past; it's not even your past to burn anymore. It's other people's history as well. Whether or not you like it, that art is already bonded to somebody's soul, and if you rip the art away, you're ripping a bit of the soul that has adhesive contact to it.”
The digital age makes it very easy to distance or detach yourself from the impact your work has—be it art, fanfic, videos, even memes. Online content is as important to people now as any other media, if not more. But it's also by far the easiest, fastest, and most effective form of it to erase from public access. Media so unbelievably important to people and in general. Yes, you—with the 2010s purple sparkle dog speedpaint. I still think about that speedpaint all the time, because it was the first time i learned that you could draw on a computer, and I thought it was cool as hell. I still do.
I do wish there was a stronger culture of preservation and consideration for this, because every time I see people talk about snuffing their stuff because it doesn't personally resonate with them anymore, I just think ...what about all the people it did?
I've seen lots of people saying "get over it, it doesn't even matter," but it fucking does. It does matter. Even if I didn’t make it, even if I don’t have to deal with being the one who made it, even if I'm naturally inclined to be distressed by it—It still matters. And there’s nothing you could ever say to suddenly make it not matter, because there’s nothing you could ever say to make it not matter to me.
Don't devalue the act of creation. Don't dismiss something you made. It's out there, in people's thoughts and hearts and souls, and that is real. Even if you don't know it. Especially if you don't know it. Especially in a world where physical media is being snuffed out, the internet is constantly dying without any physical remains to recover, social isolation is rampant, and simply because independently produced content online is still media.
Fanfiction can hold equal or greater significance to someone as a book, but you can’t unpublish a book. Authors don’t have a button that can vaporize every copy of their work across all time, but fanfiction authors do. I’m not counting people who download fics either—when you buy a book, that transaction is over. But online, you have the power of unending transaction that can be terminated instantly at your will. The process of publishing fanfic vs. publishing a book may be different, but people’s connection to the art is the same intensity.
So yeah. I do get depressed about the Internet being a constant Alexandria, but the times I get the most depressed is when I click someone's page and see that all their work is gone because they're ‘curating a new aesthetic’ for their page or some shit. Or weeding out all the "ugly" art. Or just went on whatever the hell 'thrill deleting' is, because they just get a kick out of it.
Fuck it—yeah! It upsets me! I’m not wrong to say that. I’m saying it!
Under the cut, because it got long as shit! Also don’t worry the ending is way sappier and more ‘beauty of human nature’ vibe so it’s not all doom and gloom lol
What if that was someone's favorite art of that character. What if someone read that 'cringe oneshot' on the worst day of their life. What if that Warriors meme vid is still burned into a college student’s mind despite being gone for 10 years. What if it's actually not just you and the ones and zeros you rent out to the world—secure in knowing the original will always be on your computer for you to do whatever you want with it.
I really, deeply wish there was more of a general awareness of this, because even though social media can be used like a diary, that’s functionally the opposite of what it is. It’s social media. When you post, it’s no longer in a vacuum, even though you can’t see the real humans that content touches—often deeply.
Media is history. You shouldn’t burn that history just because you personally believe it isn’t worth saving.
Because it’s no longer just your personal opinion. It’s no longer just your personal work. it’s. history. Memory of media is not a suitable replacement for the media itself. If it was, we wouldn’t save anything at all. Nostalgia is an agent of that. The definition of nostalgia is grief for moments of the past that are inaccessible, and the biggest balm for that pain is accessing a physical reminder of those moments. That opinion of yours is no longer personal. It’s weighed against uncountable people across all time that your thing is ALSO personal to. People who would, and will mourn its absence.
How many times have you joined an older fandom only to discover that some of its most popular works are gone? How many times have you routed through random blogs looking for scraps people hopefully reblogged? how many times have you used Wayback machine desperately praying that a fan fiction or a YouTube video will be there? How many times do you look up crunchy old vines or YouTube videos or anime AMV‘s? How many times do you remember old fanfic.net sex that impacted you in middle school, only to shake your head and go ‘probably no point even looking.’
i mourn the absence. No, people can’t and shouldn’t have their agency over what they post revoked, but they should be conscious of that weight. If you’re reading this and getting extremely annoyed, and you’re not in the pink text above,,,, good.
I honestly do hope it gets under your skin. I hope it sits with you. I hope you feel it every time you hit that button, and whether or not you do hit that button—if you hesitate, if you remember this, even spitefully, I’ve done my job. I am howling into the void. And I may not want an answer, but I do want my anguish to be heard and remembered. Because it isn’t me just being melodramatic.
I know I sound that way writing so much, but if my favorite writing YouTuber can drop trow this week and go, "yeah, sorry, all my video essays from less than a year ago that you listen to in the car all the time? I'm "rebranding" my content so i deleted them. besides, my personal views don't really agree align with the analyses i did, or the techniques i taught in them anyway. Sorry if some of the literal tens of thousands of you used them, but I don't want to feel shackled to having youtuber "classics" tied to me”
….then i guess I'm just going to have to sound dramatic! That fucking sucks! Hours of work and knowledge gone! This was a new channel too. It’s very likely there’s no archive of any kind, because who would think someone who worked hard enough to write, record, and edit hour-long videos, would just turn around and nuke it all? I definitely didn’t see it coming, but I did just start a new screenwriting class a few weeks ago, so I’ll tell you at least one person is REALLY missing those fucking videos right now. Because a lot of them were about specifically screenwriting, which I know jack shit about. and that specific person’s pace, editing, and style of breaking down information was the best suited style I found that I could focus on and absorb. There’s no replacement for that. No alternative for his individual perspective. his jokes. his opinions.
No, they may not resonate with him now, but in this decision, he’s put up a big middle finger to everyone who might have. And he has like 100k subscribers! Those are confirmed supporters! Imagine how many silent and untethered observers are feeling this loss right now. Imagine how many will not have it in the future.
If he never posted them at all, we wouldn’t know we had it. It wouldn’t be a loss. But we did. We did have it. Until he decided that no, we didn’t, because he just happens to be the one out of millions of individuals holding the button to burn it in a hundredth of a second.
His personal work, the attachment I had to it, and the ways that it helped me are now just ripped away. I am one person out of millions, literal MILLIONS of people who saw and liked this content before it vanished. The soul has been ripped, the access severed, and by CJ’s (and my) definition, the art is functionally dead. Not for the YouTuber or anyone else lucky enough to save a link or download, but everyone else. From this point until the end of time, even if people even two weeks from now don’t know it. Even if someone who stumbles upon his channel today, doesn’t know it.
We only mourn the concept of Alexandria because we had some kind of scope for what was inside. Yes, maybe you got self-conscious and deleted your 12 year old deviant art account. Do you know who else is doing that?? THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of other twenty somethings who ALSO feel self-conscious about their old socials. Art. Fanfic. One direction fan videos. anything.
Suddenly, an unquantifiable amount of information from your age group—an entire age group in 2012, is. gone. And we will NEVER know what’s been erased from that history. We will NEVER know what could have been significant to us ten years from now. Twenty years from now. A hundred years. A thousand.
You could have deleted a fanfic that would have been someone else’s new go-to panic attack distraction tomorrow. You could have deleted a video someone used to laugh at with their friend who died yesterday. When you delete something, you risk tearing a hole in unknowable personal histories.
The Internet isn’t just a big library of Alexandria. It’s a library containing libraries. And those libraries have their own libraries in those libraries have their own as well. libraries inside libraries, inside libraries, ad infinitum. To conceive the amount of destroyed history on the Internet is crushing.
And I just can’t help but I ask myself how in gods name people can choose to contribute to that, instead of reposting everything to trash heap alts titled “hall of shame” or some shit.
You can offload to alts. Put up disclaimers. Make password locked blogs, or dropboxes, or anonymous imgur dumps. Anonymous reuploads. Orphan fics. Make a playlist or linktree of unlisted videos. Cut off the watermarks. Delete all references to it on your main. Make a dedicated unlisted playlist. make a google drive. Make new portfolio sites. Delete any questions you get about it. Change pen names. Pretend it never existed.
Give a heads up.
Something.
But don’t. kill. the media.
The knowledge that our stuff is going to forever be tied to us is a cross we have to bear, but the responsibility that comes with putting it out there in the first place, can’t be ignored.
Anyway. I'm not trying to start conflict. This is not a bash on anyone, nor a call for witch hunts. Or anon hate, or blocks and unfollows or anything of that nature. I'm not wishing ramifications or hate of any kind on anyone who does wants to do any of this.
I'm also not guilt tripping— I am not saying that you should feel bad. I AM saying why it makes me feel bad. That’s not guilting, it’s a dialogue. One I personally feel is long overdue.
It's me yelling into the void: please consider the real people on the other side of the screen before you hit that button. Realize and know that whatever you're about to erase from history could be the most important thing in the world to someone.
Art is an experience. It's why we revisit it. If art and history simply lived in the matter and code of media, we would only need to look at it once. We wouldn’t put things in museums. We wouldn’t build libraries. We wouldn’t look up vine compilations.
If you're able, consider (and I do mean consider, this is not a call to action) not destroying that. And don’t shrug it off as some pretentious asshole venting on Tumblr. You only need to look in the notes and tags to see that it isn’t just me. it’s never just me, or you, or the pixels.
And even if you do shrug it off, then at least recognize that what you make matters. Whatever you think about it, if it’s out there, that's not your discretion anymore. If a tree falls in the woods and even one person is around to see it, it fucking mattered. Because it happened. Don’t mulch your tree rings if you don’t have to. Because if enough people do it, a whole forest is gone. Media is history, no matter whether you think it’s worth putting in a museum, or only has 30 notes.
Thousands of years ago, a child named onfim doodled on his homework. They’re crude, and everyone has the wrong amount of fingers, and they’re also priceless archaeological artifacts recognizable throughout the world.
the only thing separating Onfim’s doodles and your MS paint Pokémon doodles is time. The only thing separating your old MS paint Pokémon doodles from being a priceless artifacts, thousands of years in the future is time. Your creations are already priceless artifacts. No matter what you do, don't ever, ever deny that. It isn’t blowing up your own ass, it’s artistic and anthropological fact.
The mundane and the supposedly unworthy are often the first things lost to time, and that’s why they’re so precious. That’s why artists who were before their time are scorned first only to be celebrated later. Do you think they knew that was going to happen?? What if they nuked it? Many probably did! But now that’s happening exponentially and instantaneously everywhere, WITHOUT the artist having to destroy their only copy—which makes it way easier and more dismissable.
Sometimes, If you’re revolutionary enough, people will make an effort to preserve your work, but recognized and thoroughly recorded work is rare compared to unrecognized and thoroughly recorded work.
Sometimes something is beloved enough that it would be impossible for it not to go down in history, but even then it isnt a guarantee, and it’s rare. But if van Gogh burned all of his paintings in a fit of despair before his death, we would have no van Gogh. Because he wasn’t respected as an artist in his time, but that wasn’t what defined the worth of his art. The people after him did, because his art was still there for them.
If you rip the art away, you're ripping a bit of the soul that has adhesive contact to it. If you belittle your art, you belittle the very real relationships and emotions and revisitations people have with the media. You defy the inherent worth and weight of a creation. you created. That's effort. It's passion. No matter how flippant or unskilled or worthless you think it is, it matters. Because at the end of the day, you could have chosen to make nothing at all, and you didn't.

Headcons of Slasher Band!au (House of Wax)No One Asked For
By: @arkunder
Lester has a bag of Hot Cheetos by his drums. During the show when Bo is talking, he munches on them.
Jonesy comes out on stage sometimes. She is the official #1 Fan of the fan club. Out of them all, she has the most fanart along with the raccoon (see below out that).
If the stage has a cat-walk, Bo uses it to his advantage to flirt and drive girls crazy. He’ll kneel in front of a group, his hand touching someone else’s, and he’ll take her hand, kiss it, wink, and keep singing. He loves it.
They once bought Girl Scout cookies in the middle of the show.
Lester ordered food in the middle of the show and asked what the other two wanted. During break, they are cheese fries and burgers in front of fans.
Vincent likes looking at fanart. He’ll sign the signs and art if he has the chance. Sometimes, if the art is really good, he’ll buy it if the fan or get information from them (like kofi or something) and commission something.
When Bo is drunk, he starts singing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. They have an unofficial cover of that song.
Lester has little raccoon charm for luck. He also has the raccoon squashmellow sitting in front of the drums. The fans worship the squishmellow raccoon. There’s merch, fanart, tattoos— this raccoon has a grip on the fandom.
Vincent has a base that is clear and made from glass (which he made), and he has one that looks like wax melting.
Bo once stopped the show and had the lights turn on because there was a guy trying to force himself on a girl. It ended with Bo himself dragging that guy out and threw him in front of a moving car.
At the end of certain shows, the brothers go off stage and meet up where there’s no cameras or fans, no eyes or anything, and do a group hug. Lester in the center of the hug, Bo on the right, Vincent on the left, they do one big hug to celebrate their hard work.
Whenever Bo lets Lester sing, Bo lets him sing a sad/slow song. The crowd absolutely loves to hear him sing and will actually go silent to hear his hypnotic voice.
It’s not a kid-friendly show, however, if their is a kid in the front and one of the boys sees them, they’ll give a pick or drum sticks.
Before the show, they play a video/psa going over crowd safety. There’s this part:
Bo: Make sure you look for your nearest exit if there’s an emergency, you dumb fucks.
Lester: And, please, don’t fight people. It’s not nice and is a crime in every state. :D
Bo: Unless you fight me. Then it’s not a crime.
Vincent, signing: It’s still a crime.
✨Bonus✨
All the slasher bands have a week where they play at a venue. It’s called Seven Bloody Nights. During this, the bands raise money for children hospitals, homeless shelters, animal shelters, crisis relief programs, mental health services and community, cancer research— it’s a great event with horror and gore and music!
Going off that, the last night, all the bands play together and make a masterpiece BANGER of a song. They put aside their hatred for each other and drama to play something that Vincent, RZ!Michael, and Brahms wrote. Jonesy even puts help into with her paw print, the Approval Mark. Even the legendary Michael Myers (Grandpa Myers), the one who started this event in memory of his sister dying to cancer, plays with the bands!

The Best News of Last Week
Welcome to Feel Good News! Each week, I scour the web to bring you a collection of uplifting and positive news stories. My goal is to provide you with a dose of inspiration and hope to start your week off on the right foot.
This week, I have stories about individuals who are making a difference in their communities, companies that are doing good in the world, and much more. I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed putting this newsletter together.
Let’s start with:
1. FDA Plans to Allow More Gay, Bisexual Men to Donate Blood
Tumblr media
Gay and bisexual men in monogamous relationships would be allowed to donate blood without abstaining from sex under guidelines being drafted by the Food and Drug Administration, people familiar with the plans said.
The change would be a departure from U.S. policy that for many years barred men who have sex with men from donating blood. The FDA policy originated in the 1980s during the AIDS epidemic, when tests for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, weren’t considered sensitive enough to protect the blood supply.
2. Biden-Harris Administration Makes $50 Million Available to Clean Up Orphaned Oil and Gas Wells on Tribal Lands
Tumblr media
There are several thousand orphaned oil and gas wells on Tribal lands, jeopardizing public health and safety by contaminating groundwater, seeping toxic chemicals, emitting harmful pollutants including methane, and harming wildlife. Some of these wells are underwater, which creates an especially high risk of adverse impacts.
3. Golden bandicoots 'breeding rapidly' in the NSW outback 100 years after becoming locally extinct
Tumblr media
The first golden bandicoots have been born in NSW's far north-west in 100 years, after formerly being extinct in the region.
Golden bandicoots have been breeding rapidly in Sturt National Park since being introduced to as part of the Wild Deserts project. There are initiatives in place as part of the project to protect native fauna from feral animals. More native species are set be reintroduced to the area and will be confirmed next year.
Cue the Crash Bandicoot references :D
4. Toledo Zoo welcomes twin polar bear cubs
Tumblr media
Twin polar bear cubs were born at the Toledo Zoo, the zoo announced Thursday. The parents of the twin cubs are 24-year-old female, Crystal, and 18-year-old male, Nuka.
Crystal’s eighth and ninth cubs’ genders are unknown at this time. They are estimated to make their public exhibit debut in the spring of 2023.
Watch the video of the announcement here:
Feel Good News by Erica @feelgoodnwsToledo Zoo welcomes twin polar bear cubs
5. A Philadelphia woman collects thousands of stuffed animals and brings them to seniors who are in need of a Christmas gift
Tumblr media
Santa Claus isn't the only person who travels around with a vehicle full of toys. Every holiday season, Patricia Gallagher fills her car with stuffed animals and drives around Philadelphia. She doesn't give them to kids, she gives them to seniors.
"Who would think that elderly veterans would want stuffed animals? But they did," Patricia Gallagher said of the project.
6. 150 sea turtles saved from the cold. An aquarium in Boston has been treating "cold-stunned" sea turtles stranded on US beaches.
Tumblr media
An aquarium in Boston has been treating "cold-stunned" sea turtles stranded on US beaches. Experts urge the public not to return stranded animals into the water.
Over 150 sea turtles have received treatment this season for "life-threatening medical conditions" prompted by hypothermia in the New England Aquarium, based in the US city of Boston.
7. 'No K-pop on a dead planet': Meet the K-pop stans taking on the climate crisis
Tumblr media
What does Kpop4planet do?
Nurul a 23 year old fan from Indonesia and her colleagues have channeled most of their energy into six different climate campaigns. Over 33,000 fans from 170 countries have taken part in them.
The most successful of these has been ‘No K-pop on a dead planet’. It called for K-pop albums to go green by selling digital rather than physical albums, minimizing the packaging and encouraging low carbon performances.
The movement has proved popular with the fandom. For Kpop4planet work two full-time employees along with 20 volunteer ambassadors from nine countries. The group is funded by Action Speaks Louder, a charity registered in Australia who lobby to hold big companies accountable for their climate change promises.
. . .
That’s it for this week. If you liked this post you can support this newsletter with a small kofi donation:
Buy me a coffee ❤️
Have a great week ahead :)

Rabbit abuse videos: what to look out for
The internet is just SO rife with rabbit mistreatment and abuse. Rabbit videos rake up millions of views and everyone gushes over the cutesy lil' bunny doing something quirky and I just lose my mind all over again.
Some recurring bits to watch out for:
"Watch this rabbit take a bath!"
Rabbits should never ever be bathed (except as directed by a vet, given a dangerous health situation). Bathing is extremely stressful for rabbits, and damp fur can lead to ear infections (serious) or hypothermia (deadly). Regular bathing also wipes away the natural oils that would normally keep a rabbit's fur clean.
"My rabbit is only calm when I cradle him like a baby!"
When you hold a rabbit in your arms with the rabbit flipped on its back, you're inducing something called tonic immobility, wherein the rabbit is so stressed it resorts to playing dead. That's not a relaxed rabbit, that's a paralyzed rabbit.
"This rabbit once lived in a tiny cage, but now it has full reign of my ranch!"
Free roaming, wherein rabbits are allowed to "free roam" your entire home, is the ideal living situation for a pet rabbit. Rabbits are generally easy to litter box train (there are some exceptions, the same way some cats are fussy about their litter boxes). Cords can be fenced off, and chewable items can be placed on shelves. In a situation where complete free roaming isn't possible, the House Rabbit Society recommends a rabbit pen size of 8 square feet—though I personally would go for something more like 5x8 ft at the smallest! Rabbits should also get 3+ hours of exercise time a day when they're allowed out of their pen to really run and jump around the house.
You'll note my use of the terms "home" and "house." You can keep your pet rabbit outside, but this introduces risk factors like extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, snow, predators, illness, and poison. You'll need a predator-proof, weather-conscious shelter and access to a large, safe area for your rabbit to get those daily 3+ hours of exercise. You'll also need to provide them with adequate weather support (like heat lamps or frozen water bottles/tiles), and be ready to bring them inside when temps become dangerous (anything below like 25°F or above 80°F). You can usually let a rabbit run around your uncovered yard for a while so long as you're there to supervise, but you can't just dump them in the yard with a hutch and a timothy hay bale and call it a day. That rabbit can now be picked off by predators (neighborhood cats or dogs, coyotes, hawks, snakes, etc.), eat pesticides, litter, or poisonous plants (like ivy, daffodils, buttercups, poppies, rhubarb leaves, etc.), fall prey to mites or parasites, catch RHD from a nearby wild rabbit, die of heat stroke or cold, escape the yard and get lost/hit by a car, or even just get into something sharp or heavy in your yard and hurt themselves. Leaving a rabbit to just wander around a giant property is reckless and cruel. The rabbit does not need to free roam your whole yard to be happy; in fact, the rabbit will be less stressed and (statistically) live much longer in a sheltered environment.
"This rabbit gets along with my predator animal!"
Not all these rabbit-dog or rabbit-cat friendships are dangerous (some cats and dogs and rabbits, under the right conditions, can become friends)—but the nature of social media means content creators are often incentivized to capture cute viral moments at the expense of their animals' safety. Just something to consider with channels that produce lots of "prey and predator animal friendships"-style videos.

“phobia safe” tick facts post
*LINKS* CONTAIN TICK PHOTOS, POST ITSELF DOES NOT!
Tumblr media
Ticks are some of my favorite animals, but some species are a public health threat. It’s important to understand dangerous things, but also understand them as a part of nature, so this will be a little like my bug facts post for just ticks specifically. Links are provided as information sources but most will contain photographs of actual ticks, in case that isn’t something you want to see unexpectedly.
-----TICK SAFETY AND MYTH-BUSTING------
Ticks are arachnids. If it has six legs, antennae or wings, it is not a tick. A tick has a rounded body and eight obvious legs, with no other appendages.
Mites are their closest relatives. Many large mites can be mistaken for ticks, but will have differences in body shape and leg arrangement.
Know their shape. Even if just a photograph does make you squeamish, you will want to know what a tick looks like before you might go hiking or camping. Their flattened bodies are seed-like, their mouthparts stick out the front end in roughly a rectangle, and the eight legs are gently “curled” or “curved.” A tick never has sharply jointed legs like a spider or insect!
Ticks can be dangerous in two ways. some tick species actually produce venom that can cause paralysis, while others can be vectors for viruses, bacterial infections or protozoan parasites.
Ticks cannot transmit just any disease. A pathogen has to adapt specifically to take advantage of ticks as vectors, and are thus referred to as tick-borne illnesses. Here’s a list of them. A tick must also pick up a disease somewhere, so for instance, every individual lyme tick does not always harbor lyme disease!
Ticks don’t fly or jump, but wait in ambush. To find its next host, a tick goes “questing” (video) and will typically perch on foliage with its forelegs outstretched, especially grasses and dry shrubbery.
Taller grass doesn’t necessarily worsen tick populations. If there are ticks in your yard, you won’t reduce them by mowing more frequently. However, shorter grass makes it easier to avoid ticks, since taller grass gives them more vertical space to climb.

*Giemurou from Tensou Sentai Goseiger is, of all things, a tick-themed Kappa
Ticks are attracted to CO2. In another post I talked about how “dry ice” is sold in some places for camping coolers, but that it happens to attract ticks like mad. If it’s legal to purchase in your area, a little dry ice can even be used to attract and trap ticks in your own yard.
"Our” ticks attach firmly and must be removed carefully. The ticks that tend to attack humans are “hard ticks,” which feed long-term by embedding their mouthparts in the skin, where they may remain for several days.
DO NOT smother, burn or squeeze an attached tick. This can force the tick to regurgitate directly into the host’s blood stream, increasing the likelihood of infection. See the previous link for a graphic on safer removal.
If you remove an attached tick, take it to a doctor. Keep the tick as intact as possible in a tight container, and call a doctor or hospital as soon as you can. Many places can have a tick tested for infectious agents.
Watch out for their eggs, too. Tick eggs are tiny, sticky and laid in blobby clumps resembling fish roe!
Hard ticks swell after feeding. A flat tick is a tick that hasn’t bitten anyone yet. A round, bloated tick is a tick that has recently finished a blood meal, and sometimes a female that has gone on to mate and fill with eggs.
Ticks are NOT related to fleas. I’ve seen some people use the two interchangably. Fleas are actual insects, and dealing with them is a very different matter.

*What were dubbed as "vampa beetles” from Dragonball Super: Broly are actually giant ticks!
-------TICK BIOLOGY FACTS-------
I think I’ve covered everything you need to know about ticks for your physical well being, but I think it’s equally important to understand and respect dangerous wildlife as a part of nature, so the following is just for educational fun.
It’s not their fault they’re such a problem. As with so many other things, the threat of ticks has been greatly exacerbated by human recklessness. Deforestation and climate change have greatly expanded their range while a loss of natural predators has boosted their populations.
Sloths have special giant ticks. Many ticks find a sloth’s body inhospitable, but one of the largest on Earth feeds on sloths exclusively.
There are two major types of tick, but one just doesn’t bother with us. “Soft ticks” are named for their leathery appearance, and often look “headless” with their mouthparts underneath the body. Some species will bite humans and can transmit disease, but the majority of soft ticks target birds, bats or certain reptiles. These ticks also feed for only a few seconds or minutes at a time, rather than attaching to skin!
Tumblr media
*“Daniel” the tick Yo-kai appeared in Yokai Watch 4! I am now almost out of pop culture ticks that don’t look like the real thing. That was fast :(
At least one known tick practices maternal care; it also “goes vegan” as it matures. Antricola marginatus is a soft tick found in bat caves, and as an adult, it switches from feeding on blood to eating bat droppings on the cave floor. However, since the young still require a blood meal to develop, the mother will regularly carry them all the way up the cave wall to feed on bats, wait for them to climb back onto her dish-shaped body, then return to the cave floor so she can eat more poop. Ticks can be incredibly long lived without food. One researcher kept a small colony of soft ticks for 27 years without feeding them blood ever again. This only ended with his retirement from the lab; we still don’t know how much longer they might have survived. Ticks invented their own unique sensory organs. The “haller’s organs” are a tiny pit in each of a tick’s front legs, which detect not only the CO2 produced by host animals but can measure surrounding temperature and humidity. Ticks also have a “mystery” anatomical feature. In this microscopy photo of a tick’s mouthparts, you’ll see two porous depressions highlighted in pink. These are present only on female ticks, and we don’t know what they do. A tick’s “head” and “body” are one big segment, sometimes with eyes. This is also in my general bug facts post! What people think is the “head” of the tick is just a capsule housing all the mouth parts. A tick is anatomically more like one big walking “head” and some species have a pair of little, well developed eyes on their sides. Immature ticks have six legs. Eight legs aren’t really a requirement to be an arachnid, just the maximum number any true arachnid normally has. A new pair of legs develop with the tick’s first molt, shortly after its first blood meal.
Ticks can be beautifully patterned. Link goes to two rhinoceros ticks with amazing markings!
Ticks are a part of the nutrient cycle. You’ll often hear that a given creature is important as food for other animals, but it does go a bit deeper than that: by feeding on the blood of larger animals, ticks are “taking back” nutrients “locked away” in those animals, making them available again not only when the ticks are eaten by other predators, but even when the surviving ticks pass away and decompose! The total biomass of parasites like ticks is a constant supply of energy returning to the local food web each and every day. Parasites in general guide evolution and shape ecosystems. Everything about a given animal is an adaptation to deal with its environment, and as parasites are present in all environments, they have an influence on every aspect of their host species. Ectoparasites like ticks drive the evolution of such behaviors as social grooming, mud-wallowing, mate selection, migration and even where or when an animal grazes.
The best tick control will always be natural predation. Anything that will eat small arthropods will eat a tick, and anything that will eat a tick-infested mammal is both directly eliminating ticks and regulating their long term blood sources. You may know that opossums eat ticks, but it’s probably not any more than any other omnivore or insectivore, and most important of all may be snakes!

Traintober 2023: Day 8 - Bird
Cranky Blames Henry:
Okay, so there is already an amazing post about how Henry becomes an activist for animal conservation in the modern era (and that is a headcanon I love), but what about Cranky? In the series, he’s explicitly said that he has befriended the seagulls at Brendam Docks. So – what if he ended up becoming a social media activist too? Of course, he would never willingly start a social media account to talk about the birds, and he certainly can’t access a phone that easily. So how did Cranky end up being one of the most outspoken ornithologists on the internet?
He blames Henry.
Tumblr media
See, Henry began his online presence with a blog about the nature spots of Sodor in the 90’s. I’m talking about a really old blog, with maybe a grainy video or two – but definitely a lot of pictures. At this point, Henry had a driver who was really into amateur photography, and the green engine was able to rope him into taking pictures all over Sodor. He made posts about the forest, about the hills near his infamous tunnel, about the Western coast (Duck is still confused as to why Henry came all the way to Haultraugh to stare at Dilly’s great-grand ducklings), and even about Skarloey Lake with the help of Peter Sam. And it was a very popular blog – Henry switched it up when he began to run out of nature spots by the railway and started a Tidmouth sheds community garden so he could talk to his followers about how to care for plants (Bear’s second man started a corner for cooking, using the plants grown in the garden). Fast forward a two decades, and for his twentieth anniversary online, Henry decided to visit a few local spots once more to talk about Sudrian nature and wildlife – and one of those spots was Brendam Docks. By this point, videos were a bit more reliable, so he was vlogging these spots, rather than taking pictures.
Tumblr media
And while Henry was talking about how important sustainable fishing was for the oceans, including several pointed jabs at a fisherman who used a trawling net, Cranky interrupted. Loudly. A dock worker had almost set a crate down on top of a seagull nest, and the crane went ballistic. Really rips into the poor man, telling him all about how important seagulls are, and speaking at length about why they are a key part of the environment.
Tumblr media
Henry leaves the rant in his blog, and overnight Cranky becomes an online sensation. This is just about when Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter and other social media platforms are taking off – so it spreads fast. People around the world are talking about Cranky – and for once it’s not because of his part in the TV series!
Cranky isn’t aware of his sudden internet fame until about six weeks later, when a cruise docked at Brendam and several tourists came over and asked to take pictures with the ‘bird rage crane’. There is a lot of health and safety shenanigans, but by the end Cranky is thoroughly unamused with Henry and needs to make more posts reminding people about dockyard safety and why all birds are important.
A rant or five later, and Cranky has his own vlog. The dock manager began it mostly to get Cranky to stop shouting at him – but it quickly became very positive PR for the docks. Brendam Docks isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, but suddenly people were coming from all over to talk to Cranky about public health and safety – and more notably about wildlife in and around the docks. Cranky talked a lot about maritime creatures (including one notable time when he managed to catch a whale on camera and spent the afternoon gloating to Henry), but mostly about the birds that frequented the harbour and his crane arm.
And yes, that included one vlog where he introduced all his bird friends by name, uncharacteristically softly.
Tumblr media
Slowly, Henry and Cranky began to work together more often. It was an odd partnership, certainly – and more than once Bill and Ben hijacked a vlog by pulling pranks (or on one memorable occasion stealing the camera, and on another they somehow loaded Henry into a fishing barge; no one’s quite sure how) – but they worked together surprisingly well. Cranky drew out a lot of Henry’s old snark from his younger days, while Henry drew out a softer side of Cranky. And the two were relentless in their drive to create a wildlife sanctuary on Sodor – in particular, to get Henry’s Forest declared a national park.
The other engines didn’t exactly understand the two’s passion, but certainly did support them. This led to Henry’s Forest being named a national park in 2016 – something that the two celebrated with a special vlog that involved one dock worker suggesting they dismantle Cranky so he could attend.
Tumblr media
The two have now become international climate, wildlife and nature activists, which is rather remarkable for a coal-fired steam engine and a 1920’s diesel-powered crane. Even today, they are very vocal in their support of ‘green’ reforms (Cranky got solar panels installed at Brendam Docks, and Henry is championing biofuel alternatives to coal) and have even met Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough! But most importantly, the two still talk about their favourite birds.
Henry’s is the peregrine falcon – he likes it for its speed, plumage and its adaptability – Henry actually once managed to convince a peregrine to perch on his buffer beam and got a photo with it, which he has framed in his berth. Cranky’s is the seagull. He loves the birds, in spite of others teasing him about loving the ‘flying rats of the ocean’, and can recite a number of facts about them. He often has several perched on his crane arm, and has had a seagull build a nest on top of his cab roof.
Despite their personal preferences, both Henry and Cranky continue to wish to one day see an Australian Cassowary, partially because the pair aren’t exactly sure if they’re real or if the Australians made them up to scare foreigners.

It's just so discouranging that, with every statement Q makes, it ends up being worded in a way that ends up with the admins and ex-admins taking the blow and blame of everything. As much good intentions any statement has, the lack of aknowledgement for them (that as you said before, it CAN BE worded in a way that does not get him in trouble, the US law force is fucking horrible with inmigrants after all) can lead to these horrible results.
I am genuinely so sorry that anyone in this situation had their information leaked. Everyone deserves their privacy and not be at risk of the actions of dangerous people, it's common internet safety.
Now with that said, I will share an experience, that while I personally did not go through myself, the director of one of the big projects I participate in did, while I also read a lot of testimonies about it. This is to put some perspective for the ex-admins who are, rightfully so, upset for the abuse and mistreatment they went through.
In the animation community, there is a thing called Multi Animator Project, where a host (aka the director) makes a call for multiple animators to join in to animate designated parts of a project. This is non-profit, aka volunteer, work, that animators (specially beginners) take either to have fun work on the side of their actual jobs or to gain experience on the field and with working alongside a team + with deadlines involved. These projects should not go as hard as to exploit people and their time, since it's free labor they are doing for the sake of fun or for experience.
Except that one time it did. There was a big project of multiple of these videos directed by one person, in a way that they were expecting industry standard labor and high quality industry standard results (no, the normativity for Multi Animator Projects it's not this at all).
Several animators claimed not being aknowledged for their efforts at all, how they were kicked out without any warnings if they were not 'active enough' and that 'enough' never was specified, sometimes they were even kicked out of nowhere without any specified reason, and how the absolute short deadlines they received for high quality results + the pressure from the director's expectations greatly affected their stress and overall health. There were higher ups of the project sick of defending this director's actions while knowing full well that these working conditions for free volunteer labor were absolutely terrible and unacceptable, so they were some of the few to finally speak out.
Since then, the director has left the animation community field and everyone involved posted their unfinished work on their socials and went their own ways. Something yet to mention, this director was a young inexperienced person who made these incredibly awful demands and mistakes, and still received the consequences of these actions once the testimonies were out. Not in the form of legal consequences, but in the form of never being trusted by this community again.
Now, you might see why I brought this story up: No matter the field, if you're doing volunteer work or a straight up paid job, the bare minimum to expect is respect, the higher ups being mindful of your time and availability and aknowledgement of your efforts.
Nobody likes to be exploited, be from a big business or not, or be an experienced head of the project or not at all. Nobody likes to risk their mental and physical health, and their time, for a project that it's not supposed to demand much more out of you than it should be. And if you experience any of this kind of mistreatment, of course you will be upset, of course you will be angry and of course you would not trust the higher ups or the head of the project again.
It's a valid and more than fair point of view when you're the victim. When you're the one who have gone through this work abuse.
And both Q, the higher ups and this director can learn the error of their ways and do better in the future, for sure, they're still humans. But nobody expect every single person who worked under their names to trust them again or to be as forgiving as people could ask of them. It just makes sense.
Not gonna add anything to this anon, just publishing it because it’s a great example of how these kinds of wrongdoings can happen within any contexts and to anyone !

being yukio okumura must be a lonely nightmare
OK disclaimer to start: I've only watched the anime, not read the manga, so if this comes up in the manga forgive me for I do not know (also no spoilers please <3 I'm picking it up soon) HOWEVER
Yukio being so young and yet an exorcist must be the most gutwrenchingly lonely experience, like... going through his different positions with his three core social groups;
As an exorcist: He has his coworkers, but they're all adults. He's a 16 year old boy. As much as they include him, respect him, acknowledge his experience and skill, there's always going to be the part of them as grown ass adults that sees him as a 16 year old. That gap will always be there, and it'll probably also manifest itself Yukio being excluded from some general parts of adult life, and probably looked down upon, even subconsciously by those who do respect them. He'll always be the "little brother" friend. It's no wonder Yukio isn't very social. What is he going to do, watch all the adults slowly get drunk at a work party? Whoo. (Sure, Shura would probably give him a beer, and I'm sure the others would be willing to look the other way, but Yukio himself probably wouldn't take it.)
Not only that, but he doesn't have the same liberty as other teenagers his age to be dumb teenagers. If Rin or Shima or whoever else messes up- okay, impulsive, but they have the grace of being in training. Yukio, on the other hand, has to be professional. He has to act older than his age, or it's proof that he's not ready to be where he's at. It must be so frustrating whenever he works with a new exorcist- "Yes, I'm young for my position. No, that won't make me more difficult to work with. No, I don't need you to explain this concept to me, I already understand it, I graduated too-"
As a teacher: He has his students, all the same age as him. Hell, even if they have issues, Rin is his brother. But there's a power dynamic in the fact that he is their teacher and they are his students. There's also a duty Yukio has as the more experienced exorcist and their teacher to look after their safety, especially on field trips and the like. When they're fooling around in class, he has to be the killjoy who brings them back around on topic, and this isn't some math class they'll forget as soon as they graduate; he's teaching them information their lives are going to depend on.
It's also pretty hard to maintain a friendship with the same people you gave detention last week, or that you had to fail on a test.
As a student: Yukio also attends classes at True Cross that aren't at all related to exorcism, but I feel like even there he'd struggle connecting with his peers. Yukio's busy with teaching and exorcisms; that's a lot of time. Then his homework and classes- where exactly is he left to fit in a social life?
The anime suggests he's popular for girls to crush on. but being the crush of someone you barely know in high school isn't a friendship. Yukio seems like he'd be the typical introverted kid who goes mostly unnoticed. Even if he makes friends, what happens when he's had one too many last minute call ins for exorcisms, and has to ditch yet another hangout? How many medical leaves does he have to take in such an injury-prone job, not to mention mental health? It'd be easy to gain a reputation as a flaky and uninterested friend.
Then there's the issue of adjusting to a 'normal' life. How does one do that? How do you sit there and listen to your friends talk about homework and video games and whatever else they did last night, meanwhile what you did last night was risk your life slaying a demon, but if you even tried to tell them, you'd sound insane because most people in this world don't know demons are real at all. Not to mention he couldn't talk about his teaching job, either. Oh, also, "how was your vacation?" "My biological dad who is also Satan killed my adoptive dad who was an exorcist". To a teenager, it must feel impossible to find a way to relate regardless.
I think this has overall been a pretty sad post. I do think as Yukio grows up, he'll find his place. Once Rin and the others graduate, the wall of teacher-student between them will also be removed, though he'll still probably outrank them, at least for a while. As he grows up, too, the age gap between him and his peers will lessen, and he'll gain new coworkers who've only know him as an adult.
It will get better, just takes time.

Saturo Gojo x GN! Reader | Headcanons SFW
Summary: Just general Headcanons! Mostly Fluff!
Warnings: Slight Angst, mentions of mental health and Canon typical violence. Not proofread lol.
Tumblr media
- First thing off the bat I feel like Saturo is guarded, yes he comes off as a goofball but he's terrified to get hurt.
- That being said you would probably have to start off as friends for him to even consider dating you at all.
- He can actually be kind of clingy and needy at times.
- TOUCH STARVED.
- Literally you could just hold his hand and he would almost burst into tears about it, he's never felt that kind of comfort and safety that you provide him.
- Loves to cuddle at night in bed, a movie playing in the background, he'll fall asleep on the couch all the time and then claim he was watching the movie the whole time. We both heard his snores.
- He snores. It's nothing loud or irritating, they're very soft and almost like heavy breathing.
- Loves loves loves kisses!!
- Could spend hours kissing you.
- Does have nightmares sometimes and comes to you for comfort.
- Your his anchor, his lifeline, the person he goes to when he needs to air his grievances and talk about what's plaguing his mind.
- Goes to therapy after seeing how much it's been helping you!
- Late night dinners and midnight snacks when your both restless.
- He's a foodie, he loves food! So please cook dinner together!
- Will hold you for hours while your crying, he's really great at comforting others!
- I could see him not wanting kids initially but after being with you for a while he finds himself craving that family life.
- He's very playful and mischievous so expect lots of pranks and a prank war down the line.
- Always puts others first over himself and does that constantly with his S/O.
- He's the jealous type but not in an overly protective way, he let's it stew underneath his skin and make a home in his brain, he'll probably have a weird attitude with you about it.
- That's his toxic trait
- Playing video games together! Animal Crossing is his favorite to wind down at night with you!
- Let's you play with and give him stupid hairstyles.

Intro Post
🕐if im posting before noon PST its a queue
if you get off to my pics/videos consider thanking me through cashapp $squigglefish 💕
❌no anorexia anything❌
x I don't rp, sorry :C but feel free to use my posts as rp inspo
Hi, welcome to my super secret fet blog. Below the cut I will describe what this is for and who I am.
✅ AI scraping is turned OFF for this blog! Your art is safe.
‼health and safety disclaimer: this is a blog rooted in sexual fantasy. claimed levels of alcohol consumption by OP may at times be greatly exaggerated or otherwise unsafe to imitate. original characters posted on this blog are fictional and can consume lethal amounts of alcohol because they're not real. please do your own research on the real-world dangers of alcohol poisoning and drink responsibly.
Who am I?
You can call me Vee. I'm around 30, transmasc and I use he/it pronouns. I live in the USA on the west coast. I have a main tumblr but I don't feel comfortable attaching this kink to my identity. So it's our little secret.
What's my fetish?
Well, I've known for easily over a decade that I have an intoxication fetish. >////> Specifically, regarding alcohol. Other forms of intoxication don't compare.
What will I be posting?
Hopefully art, at some point. I have several OC's and a fantastical setting that I've been daydreaming about for a while, and I'd like to introduce them to other like-minded people. Other than that, I may post about getting stoned. While weed intoxication doesn't turn me on, I really enjoy it, lol.
More Fetish Details
It's taken me until literally this year to explore the intox fetish tag because literally I'm so humiliated I have this fetish that I can't even let the dust motes in the room see what I'm looking up. Furthermore, I've followed and unfollowed the tag on my main blog because a lot of it misses the mark for me. For example, forced intox makes me a little uncomfortable, and while I'm not opposed to CNC it's really hit or miss for me.
While I enjoy being drunk myself, I'm more turned on by watching/imagining others being drunk. Currently I'm trying to be (California) sober as well, so you likely won't get a lot of posts of me being drunk, but we'll see. I do love an IPA.
Some specific things that turn me on in regards to alcohol fetishism are:
gluttony (for alcohol mainly, but also weed, food, sex)
drinking from the bottle
finishing other peoples' leftover drinks
hiccupping
blushing/red/sweaty face
unfocused/half-closed eyes
swaying, stumbling, falling over, especially while sitting or standing in place
showing tits/sucking dick/etc. in exchange for alcohol
being/getting drunk in an inappropriate place (in church, on break at work, etc.)
accidental drunkenness
daydrinking, the earlier in the day the hotter
waking up extremely drunk
pissing self from being so drunk
pissing while actively taking a drink
losing ability to walk
losing ability to speak
falling over while actively taking a drink
alcohol causing breast expansion (also belly and butt, but primarily breasts)
anime intoxication indicators (slanting blush strokes, wobbly mouth, tears on corners of eyes, bubbles and swirls popping around their head)
CNC on a technicality because having sex with someone that's fucked up is automatically NC
feeding/gaining as long as copious amounts of alcohol are also involved
Squicks
These are things that put me off for whatever reason. While I don't judge people who are into these things, if you post about them, I'm likely not to follow back.
scat
diaper play
MAP/NOMAP (i do judge this one)
gore
cops
real/realistic incest play (fauxcest doesn't trigger the same response)
nonconsent
certain drug use (meth/heroin, permutations thereof, any sort of pill abuse)
forced intoxication (case by case)
While this blog is about my alcohol/ism fetish, there are a few things I'd be willing to engage with on here through asks and post interactions. I smoke weed every day and I'm up to sharing photos and videos related to that, however faceless. Sometimes I do whippits as well and I can post about that here if it turns people on. While I don't have a foot fetish myself, I have very cute feet, to whom it may concern.
Most other drugs I don't do. While I have done coke, acid, and mushrooms (not all at the same time), I don't prefer them. I do like molly (duh who doesn't) but don't have a reliable dealer atm, also it tanks my mental health. I have never done any drugs other than the ones I've mentioned and don't have any desire to partake in them.
If you suspect that you know me, no you don't! I can't impress enough that I really do not want my blogs to be associated with each other. There is a chance that over time some people could recognize me from years past, when I did publicly incorporate this kink into fan art and fanfiction. To those people...hey :) please don't out me.
Um that's all I have to say I guess! Until I decide to update this post.
