DAY 22: SCRATCHY - This is the flower of the Hedgehog Cactus, or Echinocereus. It’s native to the southern United States and Mexico. Once again, the name comes from “echnios”, the Greek word for hedgehog, and the Latin “cereus”, meaning “candle”.
I think I got “spiky” in my head rather than “scratchy” for this, but it still works, right? And I still like it. Especially their hat and shirt.

Hedgehog Cactus in Bloom - April 2023
This circle of Hedgehog Cactus in bloom was in one of the front yards here at Fiesta Grande Resort. I don’t think you would find such a perfect circle undisturbed by wildlife in the wild.

Hedgehog Cactus Blossoms
Hedgehog Cactus (genus Echinocereus) Blossoms — Image by kenne
The hedgehog cactus earned its name because its short, spiny stems resemble hedgehogs. The blossoms last for five days, opening in the morning and closing at night.

A headcannon I thought of when I realized my cactus had finally died:
Tails is definitely a plant dad.
He loves plants, he would die for his plants (and I think it has something to do with cosmo? Idk about their relationship, I only watched sonic x because of the memes)
His favorite flowers are peace lilies, and he also loves succulents (and who doesn’t?)
Sonic literally has to beg him not to buy more plants:
Sonic: Tails.
Tails: Yeah?
Sonic: Why is there a fuzzy succulent on the coffee table?
Tails: That’s my new plant! Kalanchoe tomentosa.
Sonic:
Tails: It’s also referred to as “chocolate soldier” or “panda plant.”
Sonic:
Sonic: I told you to stop buying more plants.
Tails: You cannot stop me.
