Alright enough reading other people’s Dndads rants; time to put some skin in the game just to get this word vomit out of my head and into the internet void:

Despite my attitude going into season 2 telling me I needed to see each and every beloved NPC from season 1 come back, I regret to say I was super disappointed with Scam Likely’s comeback.

Now, I am willing to acknowledge I’m biased seeing as Scam’s Girl From Ipanema cover is quite literally my ringtone; HOWEVER, it took all the wind out of my sails to see that this season’s Scam was nothing more than to give Hermie some development. Hermie apparently needed another father to hate and more reasons to be sad, which I don’t even think is true. Hermie is nowhere near Paeden status as far as NPCs goes, but he had a shit ton of potential to be a scene stealer if everyone would remember he existed long enough to give him interesting moments or god forbid give Will the gay romance he’s been deprived of for 2 seasons (@literalgaypersonanthonyburch🪦)

The choice to make Scam and Jodie Hermie’s parents as a random ass pull from Anthony was a delicious stroke of genius fuckery in my personal opinion. It started as a one-off insane reveal and I almost cried laughing when I found out. THIS is the absolute baffoonery that Scam deserved to expand upon if he had to come back for season 2. How the hell did Scam scam the king of hell into a relationship and out of a kid? We’ll never know cause it was for the goofs and gaffs. But wouldn’t the ultimate goof and or gaff be to let Jodie be hung up on Scam AND Morgan and not completely brush off one of the funniest between season lord drops? Or at least give us a time to catch up with BOTH characters outside of being Hermie’s dad? Scam never needed to be a good dad or change his chaotic scamming ways for the sake of plot, but if he’s gonna show up do the icon some jus👏tice👏

Anyways plot twist Grant is my favorite charcater and I have even more overly unfair and nit-picky feelings on his arc too ok that’s my time goodnight🫡

and sparrow's son loves the world so much and loves everyone around him and how can sparrow tell him that the world is cruel? how can he tell him that love will be punished and that cruelty is the only way to survive? normal's love scares him, he loves his son so much but that love scares him. he would do and has done anything for his son but he knows that it has led to his own ruin. and he loves his son but too much love has only ever harmed him and maybe he can take a model from his own dad and multitask.

maybe he can love his son but he hates him too, hates that normal can love and hates that normal can be loved and hates that normal can be so oblivious to the cruelty around him in a way that he himself lost when the world ended. he wants his son to have everything but loathes that fact that normal'll never try. that he just accepts life as it is. the way his dad did, when sparrow saluted henry and went along with the world's end and turned a blind eye to his wife's infidelity.

he sees himself in normal, maybe. maybe he hates that. because he lost himself, that day he lost his father's care and his mother's respect, and he can't bear to see himself lost again. normal needs to be cruel because otherwise he will be crushed and sparrow can't do that again. can't let himself be crushed again.

Now though? Best character. I love him more than any previous character. He commits, he's not some coward who goes halfway and retreats. He goes all the way and he doesn't stop until he fucking wins.

Strangers to friends to will they won't they partners to ENEMIES to lovers(?), Much much better than before. Before it was just, you met a guy and you like him. The Drama, the intrigue, the Romance! It's beautiful.

Do you think Sparrow is going to find a way to blame Normal for Rebecca's death? Because trying to get help for the Doodler was a big deal for Normal. And if Sparrow forever condemned his son for what Normal did as a toddler (literally just opening a door) it wouldn't be a stretch.

I mean i dont think so, Sparrow can be kinda shitty but i feel like he knows it isnt Normals fault and his hate for Willy overshadows any resentment he could have felt for Normal.

Also from a doylist perspective i dont think that's a plot point we will indulge in seeing as the season is ending and they already have wayyy too many plot threads to tie up. But i do think that is an intresting thing to write about if you are really craving angst.

I think honestly Sparrows problem with Normal is just him projecting his own guilt and issues onto Norm and i really hope he can overcome that someday, it wont be perfect but maybe their relashonship can finally be O-A-K after they are done with all this much too big for their shoulders nonsense with gods and dimensions and can get to some healing.
