a/n; this one’s pretty short since i’m coming back from a very long hiatus and am v v rusty and didn’t really know where i should take this so i stuck as close to the premise as i could and found myself here. let me know ur thoughts!!

“listen to this shit someone tagged me in; ‘isn’t it practically confirmed that [y/l/n] actually got to play for the red rabbits by slutting it up with kageyama?’” amanai kanoka read out loud some tweet on her phone.

the hikari pharmaceutical red rabbits were all gathered in the locker room at five in the morning to prepare for this morning’s training session and you’d just clocked in after a tiny squabble with your boyfriend over breakfast. amanai looked up at your scowling expression as you changed out of your attire and into the team uniform.

“can’t believe you’re still getting hate, hasn’t it been a few months already?” she took a few sips from her water bottle.

“if i knew this would happen, i wouldn’t have talked tobio into going public.” you sighed, clicking your locker closed.

hirugami shoko glanced over amanai’s shoulder to peer at the screen of her phone, frowning. “they clearly don’t know what they’re talking about, [y/n]. don’t listen to them.”

that was easier said than done.

you wanted to say you expected this, that you knew what you were signing up for when you and kageyama mutually agreed to go public after dating for some odd three years. prior to that, you pined after one another in high school, but ultimately thought it best to avoid a steady relationship, keeping in mind that you both wanted to put your careers first.

but you hadn’t anticipated the onslaught of hate and complete carnage when that stupid post took to the internet, not knowing your little instagram story had the biggest snowball effect.

it suddenly felt like you were placed under a microscope and that the public assumed the right to pick you, and your relationship, apart. at first, you couldn’t give two shits about what they were saying online, that it only mattered that you and kageyama were happy and not at the expense of anyone else's happiness. but as the months went by, all those comments were starting to get to you and doubts began to arise.

it didn’t help that kageyama didn’t seem to care, he had never even bothered to bring it up after that first month of announcing your relationship. you have never felt smaller in your life, thinking that he found your relationship insignificant.

“you have to say something!” you pushed, your arms tight around your torso. “you wanted to go public and they’re degrading me, tobio!”

he rubbed the bridge of his nose, putting down his chopsticks as he calmly assessed the dinner you pushed away. “it’ll die down in a few days, you know they always find something else to talk about eventually. don’t take it to heart, [y/n].”

“and you’re not even going to bother defending me?” you scoffed, pushing back your chair as you didn’t have it in you to finish the rest of your meal.

“why should i defend you towards people that don’t matter?” his cold blue eyes flicked up to meet yours as you retreated from the dining area.

you had to avert your eyes. “god, why don’t you get it, tobio?”

“stop being so sensitive, [y/n].”

and just like that, he picked up his chopsticks and resumed his dinner, the conversation over.

these days you couldn’t help but think that your love for one another was dwindling, because even the one you thought would be by your side was also picking apart each and everything you did with a touch of hostility. and so that night as you lay in bed with your back turned towards your lover, you gave in to temptation and opened twitter, beginning to scroll through your feed and mentions.

‘kageyama deserves better than some fame whore’

‘he doesn’t even look happy when they’re together? #freekageyama’

‘this is just another pr stunt! they’ll break up sooner or later after [y/l/n] leeches enough of his money’

apparently, not only was there a hashtag trending due to the public being completely against your relationship, but not even a single tweet was in your favor. before you knew it, tears had welled up in your eyes as insecurity gripped your heart.

you turned to face the love of your life, tracing whatever of his features you could see in the dim lighting of your shared bedroom.

“hey, tobio?” you whispered, not sure if you were really expecting, or wanted, a response. “do you hate me?”

the silence seemed to stretch on forever.

his eyes remained closed shut, an ethereal look on his face as he went on sleeping, not knowing you were falling apart right next to him. you choked on your tears, turning towards the ceiling and willing yourself to rest, allowing your breathing to calm down and labor out, before finally feeling yourself begin to drift away.

but not before kageyama muttered something under his breath that you had no energy to decipher. “...you.”

what am i even doing here? you thought, just before a dreamless sleep held you in a comforting grip.

i was actually compiling a list of who is in which professional teams and who were in municipal teams and i came across this lovely bit of info that hirugami fukuro was in adlers and hirugami shoko was in red rabbits (with amanai). and then somehow hirugami parents' love story just up and appeared in my brain like hello!!! don't u just love backstories and soft baby hirugami children playing volleyball together in the school breaks... please accept my offering of

hirugami family hcs;

i mean, what do the hirugami parents do that their kids that all of them are in volleyball and two of them went on to play in div 1 teams??? and of the three of them, the one with most airtime decided to not continue with volleyball idek what is going on

maybe hirugami parents are also volleyball coaches/ physical education teachers/ athletic trainers. maybe hirugami parents met on a mixed volleyball team in university, and that's where their romance started (〃ω〃) and maybe that's why they taught hirugami no 1. fukuro volleyball. and because hirogami no 1. liked it so much hirogami no 2. sachirou and 3. shoko were sucked into it too because they looked up to their older brother so much. and cos their parents are supportive (i mean, sports has so many mental and physical benefits) so they helped the children with training and techniques and they all developed really good vb sense. and also because the two parents are already in sports related careers they encouraged the children to pursue their dreams and now we have two beautiful hirugami babies in div 1 for men's and women's.

i think fukuro is a really calm older brother. steady, inspiring. and then we have the level headed but also slightly cheeky middle child sachirou. look at how well sachirou manages hoshiumi. shoko is probably fiery and loud, so he just repeats what he does with shoko when hoshiumi acts up. and that's why they became such good friends cos the coach was like oh hirugami u tag along with hoshiumi and keep him out of trouble won't u? and sachirou is like sure, and hoshiumi is like i am not a child (● ˃̶͈̀ロ˂̶͈́)੭ꠥ⁾⁾ but yes start of a beautiful friendship (〃ω〃)

💘First Love: Gao Hakuba

You went to Kamomedai high school, but perhaps more significant you were Sachiro Hirugami’s younger sister. You were only younger by one year, but to him (and your other 2 siblings) you were much younger. Meaning there were a few things off of the table. Dating being one of them. You were the libero for the girls volleyball team, but you hung out more with your brother and his friends. One of the ones you’d hang out with the most being Gao Hakuba. And you may have had a *little* crush on Gao. You really don’t know why your brother was so shocked when he found out, I mean, you were a teenage girl after all…nonetheless he told the other 2 Hirugami siblings. Shoko, your older sister, was overjoyed to hear her baby sister had a crush!! But your older brothers Fukuro and Sachiro…? They were not. Hence why your crush on Gao Hakuba was just that…a crush.

💔First Heartbreak: Tatsuto Sokolov

After high school, you decided to follow in your older brother, Sachiro’s footsteps and not continue volleyball after high school. BUT, you did love the sport and wanted to still be connected to it, that’s why you were now working as an athletic trainer for the Schweiden Adlers. You loved your job for many reasons. 1. You were still connected to volleyball. 2. You worked with your older brother, Fukuro! 3. Tatsuto Sokolov, your boyfriend. After you graduated high school, your siblings brothers, decided enough was enough and you were an adult, therefore allowed to make your own decisions, and date whoever you like. That’s why when you discovered your feelings for the tall friendly man, you pursued them, and ended up with a boyfriend. The relationship was great for awhile! For over a year things were going great…or at least you thought they were. Looking back you probably should have realized that things weren’t what they could have been, and where you were putting your all into the relationship, he wasn’t always putting his. Don’t get me wrong! He was very good to you and he treated you well…but he wasn’t in love with you, at least not like you were with him. It came right out of left field when he decided to end things, and despite how nice and gentle he had been, it still hurt..

💞Final Love: Shugo Meian

After your break up with Sokolov, you decided it was time to do things for you, and to focus on you. So when you received a really, really nice offer to work for the MSBY Black Jackals…you really couldn’t turn it down. Your brother (ignoring the blow to his ego lol) fully supported you, knowing how much you were hurting after your last relationship. Even if you were going to work for the ‘enemy’, you were still his baby sister, and he’d put that above some rivalry any day. So, here you were now, walking into the MSBY stadium. After signing in and getting directions, you made your way to the gym. You took a deep breath and opened the doors only to be met with…chaos…sheer and utter chaos. The first thing you saw was some blond being held in the air by some bulky guy with white and black hair and a much smaller ginger man while he shouted insults towards a guy with black curly hair who seemed to just be walking away…Another very tall and very attractive man yelling at the 2 arguing. The chaos was shortly dissipated by the sound of your laughter ringing through the gym. The scene paused and the blond was dropped to the floor like nothing had happened. “I-I’m sorry! *cackle* I-I’m Y/n…I’m your new *clear throat* your new athletic trainer…it’s,” You paused to smile, “It’s very nice to meet you all.” Smacking the back of the blond and curly haired mans heads the tall attractive man walked towards you, offering you his hand to shake. After introductions, the man who you had learned to be the captain Shugo Meian took you around the stadium, showing you around. The day went smoothly, and you were captivated by the captain. It wasn’t until on your way home that day to eat dinner with your family that you remembered why he had seemed so familiar. Because as soon as your eldest brother Fukuro brought up “how was the ‘captain’ of MSBY?” That you remembered the 10+ year feud your brother had with Meian…oh well~
