I just… cannot understand how anyone could see the improvised unfolding of these stories and conclude that Taliesin could possibly have been slighted in either circumstance.

Boiling Dorian’s character down to how he can support someone else (read: particularly a white male cast member and a character who is for all intents and purposes perceived in campaign as a white man) is ridiculous all on its own and it should be called out when people in the minority are turned reductive by fandom discourse.

no more trevor/jamie contract anons please. everybody needs to chill out. just a couple of general points to bear in mind:

the sky is not falling because they're not at camp. this is not the thing that is going to drive trevor out of anaheim. tk missed the start of camp in 2019 and then he signed for six years. quinn hughes missed camp and most of the preseason waiting on his contract two years ago and now he's the captain. william nylander held out until december when he signed his last contract in 2018, and now he's in negotiations again and giving quotes about how he wants to be a leaf.

this is not just about "the ducks have cap space and they should spend it on trevor and jamie." the ducks have a ton of young stars coming and they have to plan for the long term. how these two contracts shake out affects mason mctavish and leo carlsson and olen zellweger etc. etc., both in terms of cap space and as precedent.

pat brisson knows what he's doing. sit back and watch him work.

I just wrote in reply to a post and thought it might be useful elsewhere: Having written the essay that, 15 years ago prompted that anonymous soul to coin the word, I've thought a lot about mansplaining (and some of the other unwarranted & overbearing explaining that happens). I do think one thing that happens regularly is people lack the skills to say, gracefully, "Perhaps you're already aware of it , but I find this point/fact/detail/study extremely interesting/relevant/illuminating." To bring information to the conversation in a way that does not assume they are bestowing knowledge upon the ignorant. And I'm a person who gets extremely excited about obscure facts and interesting details myself, and I know how someone can be carried away by fascination rather than domination--but skillful tending to the dynamics of the conversation and respecting the people you're speaking with is always a good thing.

On the other hand, mansplaining does happen, and regularly.

I remember a curator who told me her husband was the lone holdout on a case where the police beat up some young Black men, so claimed the young men had attacked first, and that one man was why the victims didn't go to jail. Maybe this is a case where a woman killed her abusive husband in self-defense. It's also from a time when women weren't allowed to serve on juries in some states--imagine how far from "a trial of your peers" you'd be in a rape case with an all-male jury, plus male judges and lawyers.
