Why do we have to wait until NOVEMBER??? A new book was just announced. Tales of blaster fights and dastardly deeds of our favorite bounty hunters will be told by none other than our favorite space pirate, Hondo Onaka! Idk about you, but I really want to hear more about Aurra Sing! She has, besides Boba Fett, some of the most extensive content with books and comics out of any bounty hunter, but it was all erased by Disney's canon wipe. The Clone Wars had mentioned there was a romance between Onaka and Sing, so please, let there be some juicy black mail there. haha! Also... since it's all narrated by Onaka, does that mean its canon that he's met all of these bounty hunters at some point? Even Din?

Bad Batch season 3 spoilers under the cut
Can I just say I love how S3 is already giving us so much more characterization from Phee?
A lot of what we got in S2 was told to us, rather than shown to us. When we meet her and through the episode where she goes on a treasure hunt with the Batch, she comes off as a careless, reckless pirate. Not a bad person or personality, but a braggert who doesn't have other people as a main concern. Kinda like Hondo Onaka but a little less dramatic.
So for me, her shift in the Pabu episode was a bit jarring. Not too mention the boys trusting her enough to let her take them to unknown coordinates. Sure they all worked together to stop that ancient weapon, but that entire episode showed Hunter as skeptical of her and that never really flipped in the episode. And the boys don't trust easily to begin with so that was a big leap for me to accept without being shown. Same with her relationship with Tech. Whether you think they're an item or they were just close platonically, they clearly were the closest to one another but we never saw that happening, just the effects after it happened off screen. And I get it's a kids show and we're not gonna see everything like that. But I didn't have enough to make the pay offs satisfying.
But S3 is really helping fill that out. Point of No Return showed Phee as determined and bossy but still considerate in her own way. It also showed her as really competent. She knew something was off when the clone assassin was sneaking around and she was ready to fight. She would have caught him, too, if the fuel droid didn't interrupt her.
That now makes her someone I personally can see vibing better with the Batch and particularly Tech. I know more about her so I can fill in what S2 didn't show me.
And this latest episode, where she meets Crosshair and knows exactly who he is because of Tech? She hung out with all the batch. I'm sure they've mentioned Cross to her, especially Omega. But she learned about his personality from Tech. That helps me fill in so many gaps about Phee and Tech's conversations that makes their goodbye in S2 feel more understandable and natural.
I guess I'm saying a lot of stuff in S2 regarding Phee felt like it came out of nowhere. While I liked her well enough and liked how she shook up the boys, I never really felt like I knew her or had a solid grasp of how she would interact with anyone. Now though I've been given so much more and I can really appreciate her as a more developed character and important force pushing the narrative foward.

Rewatching the Clone Wars is a wild ride. In the first season we see, Yoda being a gremlin, Clones constantly being reinforced that they ARE worth it and human, Padmé being an absolute badass, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Dooku having a Linage meet up in prison, Hondo Onaka, Greivous being terrifying and killing another Jedi, Ashoka (she is so cool and her voice is much younger then I remember?? She actually sounds like a kid. Definitely puts perspective on how young she is ), Palepatine giving false information (how did nobody suspect him after sending Padmé into an active battle because of a ‘secret informant’???)
And it’s only been 10 episode in

-This is bad, this is really bad ! - What is it ? - I kissed Maul. - . . . Woooaaah, I own Feral sooo much credits.
haha, the implication that a) feral opress is illicitly running a betting pool b)someone was brave/suicidal enough to go for it...OR c) the kiss was accidental and d) maul was so shocked he bluescreened (but once he recovers his sanity he's out for blood).

For the character asks: Cad Bane and/or Hardcase?
Hi this is @ahsoka-its-all-of-us btw :3
i'm gonna do Bane, since i have another Hardcase request lol
one aspect about them I love - only one? oh man. the confidence. that man knows he is the best at what he does. and that is hella sexy and honestly? admirable.
one aspect i wish more people understood about them - honestly i'm not real sure. maybe that he actually has his own code of honor. its not honorable in the traditional sense, but it still his own personal code.
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character - that he's fully asexual lol. i dont know why, it just fits in my head.
one character i love seeing them interact with - oh gods everyone.
one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more - Hondo Onaka honestly.
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character - i dont honestly have any.

ok i'm not giving you an obvious one lmao.
sooooo how about...
Hondo Onaka
Alright SO now I've finished my fic I can get around to this:
Hondo. Let the record show, I fucking LOVE Hondo. Any time I saw he was present in an episode of TCW or Rebels I was infinitely more invested.
One thing about them I love: its hard to pick. I want to say his vibe? You know like his care free attitude. His distinct lack of fucks given.
One aspect I wished people understood about them: Now this one is hard. As much as I adore Hondo, I think he's a pretty two dimensional character. He's pretty easily understood. But I think he's actually a very caring guy (except Terba I guess) but its reinforced in his interactions with Ezra.
One or more headcannons I have about the character: man is actually a hopeless romantic. He would do anything for his lover and falls in love super easily. Every other week he has a new soul mate.
One character i love seeing them interact with: Ezra. While Ezra usually annoys the shit out of me (sorry Ezra stans) I adore watching him and Hondo interact
One character I wish they would interact with/interact with more: HUNTER LMAO. Imagine Hunter trying to control this absolute unit of a pirate. He would have that look™️ about him. Y'all know the one.
One or more headcannons about the pair: Hondo would adore Omega, and much to Hunters chargrin, Omega would adore Hondo. Hunter would be running around after them trying to keep them out of trouble while nursing a tension headache the whole time.

Little Danica getting (sneaking) onto missions with the Ghost Crew, she’s ever so excited! All decked out in her armor and lacing her boot up to follow behind Ezra.
“Alright so today you are going to a meet a pirate”
That was a mistake as Danica began on a rampage of questions. Not the sea faring type? Oh it can’t be sea faring! Oh is he a smuggler? Oh what heists have been pulled? Does that mean we get to be pirates today? Did you know…
“Bridger, you have a nerve bringing a clone of that red blade Jedi, he cost me men and credits”
It was not hard to forget the crimson Zabrak from nearly 2 decades ago.
“Danica is harmless, unless you give her a blaster! “
Hondo Onaka inspected the small child. Same horns, similar red coloring and marks, however the little one was dressed in beskar.
“Did he raid a Mandalorian compound to get you that? If so where?”
Ezra and Danica laughed, “ You’d die trying.”
——
“I have considered it and agree the addition of the girl will be helpful. You are much too big now to sneak into vents and places, that and her Jedi abilities…”
“Oh that.” Ezra started.
Danica’s smile faded.
“Yes exceptional no doubt, I still remember the terror the men felt when those brothers attacked. Surely the little one has such might.”
Danica shook her head, “ I can’t use the force,”
The pirate didn’t seem to hear, “ Can she talk to creatures like you?”
“Well…like Danica said.” Ezra rubbed the back of neck worried over how Danica curled into herself
“Oh or do you wield a double bladed saber? Like father like daughter!”
“I can’t do what he can. I can’t!”
A bit of silence.
—-
“Ah well that’s disappointing.” Hondo sighs.
Ezra is about to retort back when Danica jumps out of her chair and runs off.
“Seriously HONDO?!” The young Jedi takes after her.
The ah well.
The Oh
A pitiful smile in her direction.
Oh little Danica, not able to use the force.
Why did everyone have to mention it after?
“You we’re too good to be a pirate then, have to keep to being the best Dathomando I guess,” Ezra found her sniffling by the mouth of the base.
“I can’t do that either…”
“No way, your brother and sister always rave about how Danica Oppress is the best Dathomando.”
“I’m sorry I can’t use the force.”
“Hey now no apologies for that, using the force isn’t needed. You can do so much Dani.”
“Everyone expects it…” she mumbled.
“Well everyone expects me to be a fine example of a Jedi to be but that ain’t happening.” He joked gently, “ So we are on the same ship, but you are the real clever one.”
“What good is being clever?”
“Hey now I gotta use the force to figure things out and you know it off the bat, no force needed.” He ruffles her curls. “Now let’s go tell your family so they can also remind Hondo not to be a big silly, minus your dad he might kill him.”
“Buir is going to pulverize him.”
“Yeah but not kill him.”

i’ve noticed while watching the clone wars that many of the antagonists and generally evil characters are arab, muslim, or desi coded. people may not realize it but as a middle easterner myself, i notice how the names are related to similar names from that region, i notice how the music is often stereotyped, i notice how the planet worlds and places look like and i notice how the characters accents, clothes, and mannerisms are middle eastern/southwest asian coded and it’s unsettling. there are many instances where a bad guy is seen with some of these stereotypes, like barris offee or like the character siddiq, or the hondo onaka- and essentially many more characters who are antagonists. i also notice how many of the protagonists are white humans, like the mandalorians or the people of naboo or like many of the senators and jedi. i’m not usually one to push these kinds of things but i think we need to stop making the bad guys culturally coded… seeing myself as a middle easterner in these characters that cause harm isn’t the type of representation that i, nor anyone else, want.

I am just drunk enough that I'm imagining Hondo Onaka singing Master of the House from Les Mis and it's delightful.
Idk who tf would be Madame Thenardie but I'm sure we could make it work.

Will you please infodump some of your favorite knowledge about your space pirate OCs? If you're willing?
I WOULD LOVE TO
Conrad saved Alix from living on the streets and therefore earned the undying loyalty of a nine-year-old boy who now follows him around like a duckling
I like to think of Birbanto as the Crosshair of the group, so ... do with that what you will
oh I also like to think of Conrad as Kanan Jarrus, Hondo Onaka, and Carswell Thorne mixed into one. do with THAT what you will
I think I've already mentioned this but they're all based off of an obscure ballet named Le Corsaire, which is about the pirate captain Conrad and his fiesty girlfriend Medora. And Birbanto is there too. The names were so perfect that I saw them and basically screamed "THIS IS PERFECT FOR SPACE BALLET" to my poor friend who made the mistake of introducing it to me
(also, like, there's a ballet about pirates. and it's a LOVE STORY. ABOUT PIRATES. I wish I could go back in time and personally thank whoever came up with the GENIUS idea for a pirate ballet)
Also in the ballet, Conrad has a slave named Ali. who is a fully grown man. and somehow that translated into "slave boy" in one of the plot summeries I read and I went "omg what if instead of a slave Conrad has a cabin boy named Alix and they have a Kanan-Ezra type dynamic" so that's how Alix was born
all the other male love interests in this universe take forever to admit their feelings - like Space Nutcracker is enemies-to-lovers and there's slowburn friends-to-lovers in a different book - but that is not Conrad. Conrad is the complete opposite. That man SHOWERS Medora in love and affection and would gladly kiss her in front of his pirate crew with absolutely zero prompting
he has, in fact, kissed her in front of his pirate crew with absolutely zero prompting
thank you very much for indulging me in my space pirate OC brainrot, you're the real MVP

Fix Two: The Voidwolf is an Actual Goddamn Privateer
I think the Voidwolf was intended to be a dark mirror to the Smuggler. So let’s actually do that. None of this bizarre “I’m both actual Imperial Military and a Privateer” nonsense. That’s not how anything works!
Style him as a pirate with everything that suggests. He’s an evil Hondo Onaka. He’s wandered in from the Pirates of the Caribbean. He has style and cleverness, knows how to swash a buckle, and he should get a win or near win of some sort that makes it personal for the Smuggler. Maybe in this version Darmas is exactly what he originally pretended to be and gets killed in an attack on Port Nowhere. Or captured. (Which could work even if you still want to keep him as a secret Imperial agent. Until the reveal, the Smuggler would still think their friend had met a bad end due to the Voidwolf.)
As in Fix One, Dodonna’s privateer plan is genuine, and the missions stay logical. Once again, Chapter Two is almost as is, except now there’s a charismatic villain opposing you (and the pirates on Hoth should actually be part of his pirate armada). Also, he’s as Imperial as you are Republic, so you’re both hampered in pointing any kind of official people at one another.
In this, we can keep the raid a treasury ship, because we’re in a pirate story and it matters less if it makes in-universe sense. It fits the kind of story we’re telling. Also with the Voidwolf being an actual pirate, it makes sense for him to screw over the Imperials on the treasury ship. He shows up, just like in game, but robs the ship as well as destroying it. As far as his handler knows, it was all the Smuggler’s doing.
Hell, let him do that kind of thing several times, where he makes off with what the Smuggler was trying to get or otherwise blames them for his own wrongdoing. Do it right and he becomes another love to hate villain like Skavak or Hunter. It might even be possible to write his shenanigans with foe yay explicitly in mind.
(Maybe he takes care of Rogun “for you” which seems like a small Nice Job Fixing it Villain until it turns out that Rogun had started working for the Republic.)
I really want to replace Belsavis, Voss, and maybe even Corellia for this one and make Chapter Three more of a battle of wits/crime between the Smuggler and their evil counterpart. A battle that concludes, as in game, with the Smuggler getting their own pirate fleet. (Given how much people like pirates, there could even be a dark side ending where the Smuggler joins this version of the Voidwolf. With “yay pirate fleet” as neutral and “pirate fleet for the Republic” as light side, as is.)
(This might be the version that would most feel like a smuggler story. Or at least a zippy underworld vs underworld story.)
