as someone who loves to reread books, i feel like the hunger games has some of the best rereadability
i’ve read each of the trilogy each least 5 times each, and tbosas twice, and every time i pick up something new, sometimes about panem as a whole, sometimes it’s character insights, sometimes it’s connections to the real world.
ive said it before, but suzanne such a brilliant author, and she manages to give every character such depth that makes them ALL such compelling characters
i just think it’s incredible how she can write books that fall perfectly into a ya dystopian genre and also provides such profound commentary on society and government

something about bg3 i find fascinating is just How Many characters are good and compelling. Usually with most media, be it games or tv shows or movies you have one or 2 characters you get attached to, but with baldur's gate i love almost every single character in their own way.
Astarion is instantly charming and witty, he's the sassy vampire who most people find themselves drawn to, but he's not the only compelling character by far. Gale takes some time to grow on you, but after you actually see how his story unfolds and maybe even romance him, you start understanding that he's just as hurt and sad as any of the other characters, groomed from a young age and misunderstood because of it. Astarion sees himself as just a body to be used, but Gale also thinks he's worthless deep down, especially after losing the bulk of his magic. He's passively suicidal and thinks his abuser is worth sacrificing everything for, and needs the whole camp to yell at him for being stupid to realise he might deserve to live and even, get this, find happiness.
Shadowheart's story and ending isn't talked about a lot, but it is HEARTBREAKING, and both endings for her are the only ones that actually brought tears to my eyes. In a similar way to other characters, her bad ending gives away a lot about her character, almost more than her good ending, and without spoiling it, i'll just say: it's impossible to make her character evil. she will always be governed by a sense of good and justice, and the only thing that goes wrong for her is being misguided and unable to turn back. Whatever she does, she does it because she thinks it's good and just.
I can't go in depth about every character, although they are all incredible, but honourable mentions for me are literally all the villains. Gortash is instantly compelling, and how could he not be with a voice actor like That. Him and Orin are also incredibly visually interesting, as well as their personalities being so magnetic. Ketheric is deeply tragic in his own way, act 2 is practically dedicated to his shattered family and it's so fascinating to see the shards of a broken man scattered across a broken, cursed land.
Raphael has the best theme song by far, he's overflowing with charisma, he speaks in riddles and verse, he's the perfect devil. He draws you in, you almost start to like him, and then you arrive at the House of Hope and the illusion both shatters and builds even further, because his lair is by far the best map in the entire game. You find out he only ever wants to sleep with himself, but that he's terrible in bed according to his succubus. You see people's lost souls pop in and out of existence, and you can only watch them beg for reprieve, but cannot interact. You see debtors crawling around rabidly on all fours, or worshipping his toilet, or sitting in front of his budoir, endlessly bound to watch him and his succubus through the peep hole but never allowed to join. And then there's the final fight, with its incredible song that everyone should experience for the first time in game.
So many compelling characters and i could write an essay about each one. i've barely scratched the surface, and i haven't even mentioned all the origin characters. it's just insane to me how detailed every story is, how they all have their own individual arcs and motivations and they're all fully fleshed out, and feel so god damn REAL. Yeah, bg3 should get GOTY, but honestly that's not even enough. The voice actors need oscars, the composer needs a grammy, and so on and so forth. what a game.

Katniss Everdeen and her complex links to cats
Never thought I’d write an entire essay on Katniss and cats, but here we are.
Tumblr media
I got this idea from the fact that the male lead of my other favorite series His Dark Materials, Will Parry, has a cat Daemon. (It basically means his soul takes on the form of a cat and I think it might be the same case with Katniss.) He was compared to and linked to cats throughout the story. The same goes for Katniss and she has such a cat-like personality when you think about it.
Tumblr media
I also got inspired by a stray cat who suddenly scratched me lightly when I was playing with it. It was getting along with me so well, but scratched me with absolutely no warning and got back to being friendly and purring in an instant. That reminded me of Katniss.
We all know how Katniss hates cats and cat-like creatures, specifically Buttercup and the lynx who was following her around the woods. They both had complex relationships with her as well. Buttercup had a reason to distrust her, yet they were the only ones who could really feel the loss of Prim the same way, so Katniss found comfort in Buttercup at the end of Mockingjay. The lynx was trusting Katniss for no reason and she was conflicted about it because she’s protective in nature and she hated she had to hurt it, but she did it for survival anyway.
Tumblr media
This is true of Katniss’ relationship with herself in a way. She tries not to argue for herself ever and lists all her imperfections constantly.
Of course, her relationships with cat-like creatures is not the only thing linking her to cats. She has a very cat-like personality, especially when she interacts with Peeta.
People familiar with cats would tell you that with most cats, even when they act like they don’t give a shit about you and even avoid you, they actually take notice of the humans around them and when you’re kind to them, they’re drawn to you by default. They may try to act indifferent, but it shows.
It’s exactly how Katniss is in her relationship with Peeta. She tries so hard to convince herself that she isn’t drawn to him and doesn’t need him. But when she’s at her most vulnerable, she trusts him and wants him around.
Tumblr media
For instance, when she hurts her ankle in Catching Fire, she trusts Peeta to understand what happened and leans on him for support. He in turn delivers a brilliant performance for the peacekeeper and understands that Katniss was hurt while the others are oblivious, even her family. When she’s under the influence of sleep syrup and at her most vulnerable, she’s finally willing to admit she wants Peeta to stay and hold her, even when moments earlier, she was like, I choose the rebellion and Gale. And when they’re on the train to the Quarter Quell, she finally lets herself get loose and initiates an intimate hug. She doesn’t want to let go and is annoyed when they’re interrupted. She’s practically purring when touched by Peeta because she feels safe with him. That’s so cat-like.
These are so cat behaviour to me. It also makes sense that I see a lot writers giving Katniss lines like “I’m not good with words, I work better with actions.” Yes, she’s like that and that’s very cat-like. And with cat-like people, when they get attached to someone, they don’t let go. This is also part of why Will reminded me of Katniss. He literally goes through a bunch of worlds in search of Lyra after losing her. Katniss is like that with Peeta. When she loses him, she’s inconsolable. She’d do anything to get him back.
Last but not the least, Katniss’ name is also very similar to “cat”. I’ve seen quite a few people’s head canons with other character nicknaming her “Kat”. Once you make the connection, you can’t unsee it.

Rant about fandom culture incoming. Please feel free to scroll by ❤️
As someone who has never been in a fandom before and only recently got into "nerd culture," I find the idea of getting upset about shipping and headcannons very jejune. Especially in an RP game that lets you explore different relationships and routes.
Fanfiction is not about what is real or canon. It's about exploring the characters, imagining them in different settings, or alternate universes.
Shipping is the act of creating a romantic pairing between two people or characters who are not otherwise romantically linked. People ship two characters together for a variety of reasons. Usually, they like the dynamic or the chemistry and want to explore it further.
BG3 is a role-playing based off of a role-playing game that also lets you role play as one of the main [origin] characters. The game let's you explore many paths depending on how you want to play.
Every ship is a valid role-playing variant.
But it's not just about shipping, I have also seen people judge others for how they choose to play the game or chastise others for ignoring "canon" whilst ignoring canon themselves.
People write essays or create blogs dedicated to hating specific characters and judging the people who like them (why bother?). The characters are complex and change depending on how you choose to play the game.
From what I have observed, there is usually some kind of bias behind strong opinions, and there will always be something in the game you can use to defend or disprove a view. The curtains are not always just blue, but sometimes they are.
Just accept that people are going to like characters you don't, ship characters you don't, and choose different in-game choices. Your headcanon, your opinions, and your preferences are not everyone else's. This is a role-playing game where you get to make your own choices, and fanfiction is about exploring scenarios outside the source material. There is a lot in the game that we don't know or that is down to interpretation.
Surely, there are better things we could be doing than writing lengthy posts about why we don't like something and discouraging others (me included as I write this post).
Focus on reblogging what you like or creating the content you want to see. I'm tired of people telling others they're doing fandom wrong and acting like their opinion is the only correct one that is free from any bias. No one is free from bias.
All of this, just to say, I wish people would let others enjoy the game how they want to. Most people do, but there are always a few.
You're not a clown for sympathising with Astarion, shipping Astarion with Gale, imagining Gale with kids post game, or exploring darker character paths.
People project onto all of the characters just as much as they identify with them. And I am sure that there is not a single ship out there that does not have some fanfictions that are a little ooc or where people explore the dynamic different to how it would be in the game. Even with oc x origin ships sometimes. So that is not a valid reason to discredit something you don't like. Especially if you're okay with it when it is not something you personally dislike.
Neither is the fact that you can do what you want in an origin run because they gave us the option to play as them and control their story. If origin runs don't count, then that means no ship is valid except the one between an origin character and Tav. Not just the one you don't like. People often see what they want to see and take any evidence that supports their view, whilst disregarding or finding ways to discredit the ones that don't.
Also, I love it when people claim not to care who people ship but then proceed to create a lengthy post about why they shouldn't be shipped. Including calling the people who ship them clowns or another derogatory term. People who are actually indifferent don't bother to go to such lengths to discredit it. Even if it is just on your own private blog with the names censored, why take the time, especially when you supposedly don't care?
When you're chronically online, you start to notice some patterns. That's all I'm saying.

this is a post about my brainrot over bkdk and everlark(katniss and peeta from hunger games) having parallels based on the same colours they represent🐢
colours that they represent:
peeta: orange bakugo: orange
katniss: green deku: green
even though peeta and bakugo represent orange, there is a contrast. bakugo and katniss are a better pair. let me explain by individually going through each of them.
Tumblr media
starting with deku, full name izuku midoriya, midori in his name means green and midoriya means greenvelly
Tumblr media
i am taking this as reference
Tumblr media
coming to katniss everdeen, she represents forest green. forest is her home, she feels the safest in there, forest keeps her hidden from everything. she and gale have this idea of running away from everything and living in the woods forever so they dont have to face snow, the hunger games and the after effects of it. meaning of deku's name also fits her perfectly.
Tumblr media
coming to the orange boys, katsuki bakugo, his colour is orange because of his last name and his quirk that are both 'explosions'. The left part of his kanji stands for fire. his name goes well with his personality and character.
Tumblr media
my sweet bread boy, peeta mellark, says his favourite colour is orange, the sunset orange, the soft orange. it contrasts from bakugo's orange that is explosive but is similar in a way because both indirectly and directly mean fire. peeta's name comes from pita, a type of bread, going well with his character too. peeta's name, even though very literally meaning bread, has so much significance i could write an essay but i WONT(i swear, this post is going to be long djdhjd sorry), i will only write things that are important. so
1) panem, the country peeta and katniss reside in, gets its name from a phrase 'panem et circenses' that means "bread and circus". i think many people would be able to relate it to mha just from this if you know what the phrase means. this describes how if you give people bread(food and clothes- a life of ease) and circus(entertainment), they would not really care about anything else or anyone else who is suffering, they would enjoy their life in atmost ignorance. now peeta, who means bread, gives panem just that, entertainment. he entertains the people of the capitol who live in luxury by his 'star crossed lovers' story.
Tumblr media
2) bread is made by heating up a soft dough, symbolises all the struggles he went through to get where he is now. this connects him to bakugo, bakugo's character is literally "win yourself"-the second meaning of katsuki. how bakugo, a brat, grows up and struggles to be the self he is right now. a soft, tender and delicate dough shaped into a sweet bread.
ok so now that i have laid out the meaning of all four and why they represent the colour they do, i wanna point out how katniss and bakugo/ deku- peeta fit together.
Tumblr media
1) the personalities- bakugo and katniss are fierce, not afraid to say or do anything they want, talented and strong. they also are rather...insecure, they dont want to appear "weak". this is highlighted in katniss' case when she shoves and hurts peeta in book1 when he lies about them being lovers. she says "he made me look weak" when all peeta did was help her
who else thought the other's help was an act of pity and made them look weak? :D our sweet boy bakugo, who pushed deku's hand away that was there to HELP him but he thought it was an act of pity, that deku thought bakugo was below him and thats why deku thought of helping him. but both deku and peeta had no intentions like that.
katniss and bakugo, no matter how talented and strong, are not 'appealing' to the public eye. bakugo curses and shouts at people and katniss kinda does the same too jdjd not cursing but her personality pushes people away(not my opinion cuz i love her but thats how its in the books). bakugo shouts "die" and katniss actually k/lls people dkdjjd love them cutie patooties.
apart from the scene i just mentioned above, peeta also helps a starving katniss when they were kids and katniss questions his motives till they meet again(at the age of 16). very bkdk river scene coded too where bakugo falls into the shallow river and all his friends are laughing but deku rushes to help bakugo up and asks if he is ok but bakugo smacks his hand away thinking deku is looking down at him and now bakugo regrets not taking his hand. also this scene stays rent free in katniss' head like how the river scene stays rent free in bakugo's 😭 peeta remembers it but it doesn't plague his head like it does to katniss.
majority of book1 katniss questions peeta's intentions, thinks about how peeta is lying to her and what manipulative tactics he is going to use to win the games. much like bakugo who accuses deku of lying to him about not having a quirk and deceiving him. bakugo also doesn't trust deku in the initial chapters, questions his motives behind the things he does.
katniss and bakugo solidarity, the tsunderes.
now that i think about it, katniss and bakugo are very barbie coded djhdjd as in "she is barbie and he is just ken".
katniss and baku are individual people with goals and ideals and their own motives, they dont think about love and friendship that much, they are focused on what they want and they strive to achieve it.
now coming to the Ken's🥸 peeta in the series exists to support katniss. peeta in both games had one motive and it was to save katniss. deku too desperately wants to save bakugo, time and time again he wants to save bakugo but cant. katniss and deku are similar in a way that they both fail to protect the one that means the most to them. this made me remember, like in book1 katniss questions peeta, takes him for granted, kinda(?) uses him to survive and win but in the second games she is dead set to save peeta, doesn't matter if she dies, peeta is #1 priority. she knows peeta will sacrifice himself any chance he gets so she is there to look over him. very similar to bakugo in the 1st war arc. deku is there, doing hero things and ready to sacrifice himself and bakugo is there looking over him, seeing how he is destroying himself and saved deku with his own life(he doesn't die there).
reminds of a scene in book2 where peeta's heart stops and katniss cries and screams to finnick to save him. and deku screaming after bakugo gets kidnapped
Tumblr media
peeta fell in love with katniss when they were children, he admired her since then. he looked at her in the corridors of the school, my man is a simp. deku is also a simp(this is a joke, i am trying to keep this post neutral and not including any headcanons, if i did, i am sorry), bro admired bakugo since they were kids, bakugo was his image of victory.
Tumblr media
now coming to the point of "bread and circus". even though the hero society in mha is not entirely distopian like hunger games, this sentences fits here too, very perfectly. how the hero society was set up, the civilians were pushed to became the audience, no one without a hero license is not allowed to fight or hurt anyone, not even students in hero training who dont have a license. this made the civilians entitled and ignorant. entitled cause they started thinking that heroes exist for them, they are supposed to fight for them(much like how people in real life treat soldiers or doctors, they take them for granted) and ignorant to all the struggles heroes go through. not just heroes may i correct myself but also people around them, if anybody has a quirk that doesn't fit the societal standards(like toga's, she has to drink blood to become someone else for some time), they are treated differently, deku who was quirkless was bullied, by bakugo and literally so many others, even adults, he was treated differently than everybody else. examples can go on but you get the point, people of japan in mha get bread(a life of ease) and circus(entertainment as heroes fight with their life on line and people watch in awe as if its some action film). the people of the capitol(panem, hunger games) are like that, they watch teenagers killing each other on screens as entertainment, they bet who would win etc.
peeta and deku fit right in. i explained how peeta fits, now ill talk about how deku fits. deku, a "true hero" like his predecessor all might, who wants to save people with smile but as the series goes on, he himself cant smile bcoz the burden on him. people want their bread and circus from him and want to stay ignorant to his struggles. they wabt him to protect them and give them the life of ease back to them, they want him to fight the villains while they sit comfortably but when he needed protection, when he needed rest, they straight up said no. like the people of capitol or even some people in the district who hated katniss when she became the mockingjay(face of the revolt) but loved when she was serving as a cute little girl in love and giving people the entertainment they needed.
ok so this got a lot longer than expected, i am sorry sjsjjsjs and i still must have missed a lot so feel free to reply with more things if you can think of any.
god the way i love everlark. its the writing that is sooo good, you can keep reading into it and making connections and keep analysing the text. same reason why i love bkdk so much cuz they have material that you can keep analysing.
i thought of all this when i recently watched hunger games movies again and went "wait....green and orange...sounds familiar🥸" sjdhjd. then i kept thinking and found so many parallels between them. take this as an disclaimer that i am not saying that bkdk are based on them or ANYTHING, its just my brain mixing up two things that i am obsessed with<3

Astarion took a lap around the building to cool off before returning to his office- The last thing he needed was Gale asking him how he was doing after that little shit-show. Korrilla had also given him something of a runaround after he left Raphael’s office. She accidentally printed his requested forms on legal-size paper (because she forgot that she didn’t restock the printer before break) and then wasn’t sure if being in the wrong formatting would invalidate the paperwork, so Astarion had to wait for her to go get a fresh package of printer paper from the supply closet in the basement, which made him feel like a dick because she had to climb four flights of stairs to do that.
The problem with Korrilla was that Astarion never knew if she was in on Raphael’s torment or if she was just making a series of human mistakes because he made her nervous- though neither answer made the interaction any less annoying.
When Astarion got back to his office, Gale was still there. He was flipping through a heavily marked-up handbook on technical writing for business communications, staring at the pages as if he were either heavily engrossed by the reading -unlikely- or trying to light the damn thing on fire. It only made sense once he stepped into the room and saw Xenia posted up in the corner on her phone.
“Ah, Miss Bellona. Exactly who I was hoping to run into.” Astarion said, snapping the tension in the room like a loose thread. Gale nearly jumped out of his skin. “You look terrible.”
Xenia looked up at him with narrowed eyes, chewing one of her nails on her good hand. “I’ve had a rough few months.” She replied in that flat, desperately-trying-not-to-care tone that made her so fun to tease.
“I’ve heard. What do you need help with?” He slapped down his stack of paperwork on his desk and sat at his computer. Astarion saw Gale watching him wide-eyed, and he wondered how much Gale had pried while he was gone.
“I wanted to get the assignment sheets for my missing work from Survey of Gothic Literature,” Xenia said. Gale casually turned in his chair and pretended to rearrange the books on his shelf, giving them the courtesy of at least pretending to check-out of their conversation. “I thought I should get started on finishing that before the rest of my classes start…”
“Of course, you dropped off around Project… 4, was it? I think I kept a folder with your missing assignments somewhere.” With a few keystrokes, Astarion’s computer lurched back to life, fan buzzing as the machine recalibrated after being shut off for a month straight.
“I think the last thing I turned in was the 2nd character study…” Xenia replied. “…or maybe I just finished it- do you recall reading a paper from me about Miss Jessel?”
“I don’t, but I’ve read nearly a thousand bad-to-mediocre composition papers since then, so it’s likely I just forgot.” Astarion clicked through the expired Canvas shell to skim the grade book and determine which assignments he needed to pull.
“Oh, so my writing's mediocre?”
“I’m sorry, your 1200-word sophomore-level essay demonstrated a pure mastery of your craft. How foolish of me to forget when the beauty of your words brought me to tears.”  Astarion scoffed. He found the file folder he was looking for and printed it off. “Gale, I know you’re terribly busy, but could you grab those papers from the 2nd floor breakroom?”
“Absolutely!” Gale was on his feet and heading for before the request had fully left Astarion’s mouth. He gave Xenia a friendly smile. “Back in a flash!”
“Take your time.” The comment came out a lot more passive-aggressive than Astarion meant it. He watched Gale leave the room and listened for the stairwell door to open and close. Astarion turned back to Xenia. “What did you say to him?”
Xenia shrugged. “He asked about my dad, and I told him that I stabbed him to death.”
“Did you happen to… elaborate on that?”
“No, he didn’t ask.”
Astarion sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “You know, if you want people to stop treating you like a freak, you’ll have to stop acting like one.”
Xenia crossed her good arm in front of herself and pouted. “It’s not like someone wouldn’t have told him anyways.”
“Probably, but even a complete stranger would make you seem at least a little saner,” Astarion replied.
Xenia went quiet for a moment, her lips twisting into a disgruntled snarl. Her eyes drifted to the water-stained ceiling tiles. Astarion sort of understood her twisted logic. There were a lot of people on campus who treated her like a ticking time bomb, regardless of whether they knew her exact circumstances or not. If people would be convinced that she was a monster regardless, perhaps it was better if she was the one doing the convincing- at least then she was in control. It hurts less to meet someone's rotten expectations than to try your hardest and fail to prove them wrong.
“I suppose you want to know what happened last semester?” she muttered.
“Tell me or don’t.” Astarion shrugged. “I could not care less.”
Xenia rolled her eyes. “You’re such a dick.”
“What I am is a mandatory reporter, so think carefully about what you want to tell me- unless you like filling out copious amounts of paperwork,” Astarion said. “Do you need the reading materials? I could just lend you my anthology since you’re the only one left in the class.”
“I’ve still got my book from last year…” Xenia replied, mind still very clearly elsewhere. “…Do you have siblings?”
Astarion paused. “Yes. 6 of them. Why?”
“How do you refer to them… like in your mind? Do you call them your siblings?”
“I don’t think of the much anymore, honestly. But I suppose when I do, I think of them as their first names.” Astarion sighed. “Is there something you actually wanted to talk to me about?”
“I’m having trouble figuring out how to think of my sister,” Xenia admitted. “I guess she was never really my sister, and she was never really to blame, but…”
“You’re allowed to be angry at her,” Astarion replied. “I think you should be, frankly.”
Xenia mulled over his words for a moment, and Astarion could see her run her tongue along the inside of her cheek, absent-mindedly tracing the contours of her scar. She opened her mouth to say something, but the door in the stairwell creaked open, and she clamed up, wary of being overheard.
***
Gale felt horribly selfish for wanting to bolt out of the office as badly as he did. He wanted Xenia to feel comfortable and safe around him -the poor thing seemed like she’d been through enough- but he’d locked up. It wasn’t difficult for Gale to surmise that she probably didn’t commit patricide for the fun of it- those kinds of actions are usually born out of extreme desperation. However, whenever he thought about trying to relate to her or lift the mood, the impulse was killed by some strange insistence that he was being too personal, too forthcoming, too intimate.
He envied the ease with which Astarion had struck up a rapport with her- it seemed that despite his posturing, Astarion did, in fact, have a few soft spots. Gale told himself that it was because Astarion had leagues more experience in these departments than he did, but still, he worried. This was the first time he’d been on a college campus purely as a professional, and it felt a lot more daunting than he’d ever imagined.
It took Gale a hot minute of wandering around on the wrong floor to figure out Astarion meant “second floor” in the standard British English sense of the phrase, and the break room was actually located on the third floor. He collected the small stack of orphaned papers from the tray next to the copier and returned to Astarion’s -his- office.
Xenia was still there, Idle chatting about the books she’d read while in involuntary hold. “Do you teach V.C. Andrews? She’d gothic lit, isn’t she?”
“I’m not much of an Americanist,” Astarion replied. “If I’m forced to teach Southern Gothic authors, I tend to gravitate towards Falkner.”
“Not Poe?”
Astarion gave her a derisive look, but Gale handed the stack of papers before he could respond. He flipped through to ensure everything was in order and handed them over to Xenia. “You’ve got two more plot summaries, a thematic analysis, and a comparative essay for the final. Work on them at your leisure.”
Xenia took the papers and tossed them in the tattered messenger bag she’d brought without a second glance. “Thanks!” She said. “Is there anything else I need?”
Astarion put a hand on the paperwork he’d brought in with him, thumbing over the corner before he shot a scrutinizing look over at Gale. “Yes… but we’ll talk about it later.” He said.
“Alight, see you around then.” Xenia shrugged and slung her bag over her good shoulder but didn’t quite get it, and the strap slid down her arm, catching hard in the crook of her elbow. She let out a frustrated groan.
“Here, allow me.” Gale stepped forward and looped the strap comfortably over her shoulder.
Xenia cocked her head and gave Gale a thoughtful look, her dark eyes piercing right through him. “Thank you…” she muttered before she turned and hurried out of the office.
“She seems…” Gale trailed off. He wasn’t sure what Xenia seemed like; he’d never met a murderer before- at least not to his knowledge.
“Shorter than you’d thought she’d be?” Astarion asked flippantly, reclining in his chair. That was fair; Gale had a hard time imagining how someone as little and frail as Xenia could overpower a full-grown man, boxcutter or no.
“Did she really-”
“Self-defense,” Astarion answered several questions ahead. “I don’t suggest asking her anything else about it. She didn’t have a particularly pleasant home life.”
“I’d imagine not,” Gale replied, sitting back down at his desk. He tried his credentials again- still nothing. “-do you know how long it should take for me to be put in the university’s system?”
“Surely you should be in by now…” Astarion replied. He moved to look over Gale’s shoulder. He was so close Gale could feel his breath tickling the back of his neck- he had to suppress a shiver.
Astarion said something, pointing at the computer screen. He had such striking eyes, such a warm brown that they were almost red.
Gale completely missed what. “Sorry?”
“Try logging in without the server address,” Astarion repeated a slight edge in his voice. “Everything after the ‘at’ symbol.”
“Right.” Gale deleted the back half of his username and tried again. The computer loaded and loaded and loaded.
“That’s typically a good sign. Computers on campus take forever to log you on the first time.” Astarion said. He picked up the picture of Yenna and examined it dispassionately. “Cute kid, is she yours?”
“Ah, no… that’s my niece.” Gale felt suddenly and incredibly self-conscious. “I’ve always wanted my own, but it wasn’t in the cards, I’m afraid.”
The admission shocked him slightly, but he supposed it was true. Mystra had never wanted kids, and Gale wanted to keep her pleased, so he went along with that. But Gale had always loved kids. He’d been so excited when Yenna was born that he could hardly put her down. Still, when people asked him and Mystra if they were planning on having kids, he’d just nod dutifully while she explained that he was too focused on his career to think about kids.
“Shame,” Astarion said, setting the picture frame back down.
Gale’s computer screen went black, and then an empty Windows desktop appeared. Success!
“Just in time to log out for the all-hands meeting!” Astarion exclaimed looking at his watch.
“Naturally…” Gale sighed.

Baldur's Gate 3 Tav Ask Game
Following this post by @spacebarbarianweird
The list of questions is from @tolkien-fantasy.
My Tav's OC lore under the cut. This is the lady in all my fics.
Tumblr media
Here she is being pleased with herself for being a little shit. She was not, indeed, better than those juvenile antics.
Why did you pick the race you did for your Tav?
Half-elf, for I am a basic bitch (and one who likes the idea of their character having a longer-than-human lifespan)
Why did you pick the class you did for your Tav?
Bardlock. Heavily leaning bard in HC. A bard is a lot of fun to write, but I prefer to play magic types.
What is your character’s moral alignment?
Chaotic neutral.
How did you choose your Tav’s name, if you gave them a unique one?
She doesn't use her real name. Her patron insists that she calls herself Asmodea, in honour of Asmodeus. It's meant to be ironically pompous, because frankly she's a pretty shit warlock.
What are your character’s strongest and weakest stats (strength, charisma, etc)?
Maxed out charisma, but needs to resort to asking Str 8 Astarion to open jars for her. Wisdom is clearly not up there either, given some of the choices she's made.
What is your Tav’s origin story?
I started typing out an essay, but will try to condense as much as I can:
Unwanted child between elf (mother) and human (father), raised by father. Doesn't know elven side of family. Was sent off for schooling as a young adolescent. Father dies, any and all traces of family fortune gone, only debts that she would now have to take over. Unable to continue studies, gets kicked out. Can't go back home. What do? Hooks up with guy, guy turns out to be bandit. Joins and runs with bandits for years. Picks up bard skills along the way. Banditry gets progressively worse, more violent and dangerous, and she eventually says "fuck this" and sneaks off with whatever loot she can carry. Keeps changing names and appearance and lives as a traveling bard for the next decade or so.
Enters pact with an otherworldly being shortly before events of BG3. Not her brightest moment, but one that kept her out of jail, at least.
Then nautiloid happens.
What was the most significant moment in your Tav’s origin story?
I would say suddenly finding yourself penniless and roofless and having to learn how to survive was a pretty big deal.
What deity, if any, does your character worship?
None.
What is your Tav’s biggest priority or goal?
Part of the terms of the patron's contract is keeping them entertained, so she is, indeed, forced to live in 'interesting times', or create them personally.
If your Tav didn’t become an adventurer, what else would they be doing?
She didn't really have particular plans for her future before everything went haywire.
What is your Tav’s most used weapon or spell?
Eldritch blast. Pew pew.
What is your Tav’s favorite school of magic/weapon type?
Realistically, anything ranged.
How does your Tav fight in a combat situation?
Poorly. Tries to stay away from hand to hand combat as much as possible. Stays close to Astarion.
Does your Tav know any other languages besides Common?
Note: OP doesn't know enough DND lore to really say. Let's go with whatever human language is appropriate for the Sword Coast area + bits and pieces from numerous other languages that she's picked up in her travels.
If your Tav could/does multiclass, what other class would they choose?
Is a bardlock.
Which of the companions does your Tav trust most?
Astarion because bae. Karlach because friend. Lae'zel because predictable.
Which of the companions does your Tav distrust most?
Shadowheart. She always seemed like she had an ulterior agenda that she might foresake everyone else for.
She's not too fond of Gale's bomb and all the surrounding circumstances either.
Who is your Tav’s biggest rival?
She doesn't really think of her companions in those terms. Wyll's clearly a better warlock, but she simply accepts that.
Who is your Tav romancing, if anyone?
Astarion. Of course it's Astarion.
If you’re romancing anyone, why did your Tav fall for them? And why did that character fall for your Tav?
They connected through a shared sense of humour, impulsivity, dramatics, and desire to make the world burn just to see what happens.
If you’re romancing anyone, who fell first and who fell harder?
They arguably started falling more or less at the same time. Astarion fell harder.
How does your Tav act around their crush?
They started off by putting on a show of a massive love affair as a running gag to amuse themselves and annoy their other companions, until at some point it wasn't acting anymore. Related fic.
What is your Tav’s favorite moment they’ve had with their lover?
She rather enjoyed seeing him tear out a bandit's throat with his fangs to protect her.
What is your Tav attracted to? What are their turn-ons and turn-offs?
Attracted to humour, independence and self-sufficiency. Likes it when people are straightforward and can keep up with her.
Incompetence, neediness or just plain being boring are major turn-offs.
Does your Tav have any biases against other classes or races?
Not any more than the average person. She's met plenty of different people on her journeys. Goblins, half-orcs and drow are, in her experience, even worse than their stereotypes. The tieflings she's met have mostly been lovely though, she doesn't understand the hate for them.
What is the most prominent color in your Tav’s color scheme?
Doesn't really stick to any particular colours as doesn't want to be too easily recognised.
What is their sense of humor like?
Inappropriate. Also finds great joy in just being immature at times.
What is your Tav’s guilty pleasure?
Horrendously bad erotica novels. A hobby she shares with Astarion, actually. They keep a running tally of each instance of "velvet-wrapped steel" they come across, and occasionally perform dramatic in-character readings at camp for everyone's benefit, when the writing is sufficiently atrocious.
How easily offended are they? How do they act when offended?
Not easily at all, or rather doesn't let it get to her. She will remember, however, and is not above enacting petty, spiteful revenge.
How does your Tav react when someone insults their friend/partner?
Usually by saying something like "no, it's not worth it, let's just go, oh no, how will they ever walk again, that sure is a broken kneecap, shame about the face, welp, there go the teeth" and not actually intervening. Astarion can take care of himself.
How does your Tav dress for different occasions, like very fancy situations?
She hasn't had a chance to dress for a fancy occasion since she was a teenager. I think she would go all out given the opportunity. A combination of practicality and allure in everyday life - her vocation does require that she presents well. And that she is able to get away quickly should shit hit the fan.
How did your Tav get their scars, if they have any?
No major scars.
What is your Tav’s relationship with their family?
Doesn't know mother's elven side, and father's dead. She's got extended family, somewhere, but they've never been close.
What is your Tav’s opinion on nobility and authority?
Fuck the police. Eat the rich. She's technically still on the run from the law, not that 'the law' is competent enough or cares enough to find her.
How does your Tav react to wearing the Wavemother’s robe? How do they react to their partner wearing it?
They think it's hilarious and argue about who looks better in it. Neither will admit, but they both think Gale wore it best.
What is your Tav’s favorite type of environment? Like in a tavern, a library, out in the wilderness, underground, etc.
Honestly, she is sick and tired of taverns and the wilderness. She craves being someplace comfortable and more refined.
What would your Tav’s Zodiac sign be?
Sigh, OP is not into this, but going by the stereotypes - Aries might suit.
What is their favorite season?
Summer. Because fuck snow, fuck rain, fuck mud, fuck cold.
Where in the world does your Tav want to visit the most?
She's never had a chance to sail and is curious about that.
What is the biggest mistake your Tav ever made?
The banditry definitely wasn't a great choice.
What animal best represents your Tav?
Some form of talking parrot that might shit on you as they fly overhead
What flower/tree/plant best represents your Tav?
Four leaf clover
What does your Tav smell like?
Honestly, not that great at the moment, but hopefully she'll find a bath soon
What song best represents your Tav?
Oh boy. Gogol Bordello - Not a Crime came to mind. It's got the energy of something she might play. And the lyrics are suitable.
What would be your Tav’s favorite music genre?
I think she would have an eclectic taste, leaning towards the more lively end of the spectrum.
What role would your Tav play in a highschool AU? (nerd, jock, bully, goth, etc)
Theater kid that's always skipping class
What is the most important item your Tav has?
It's for practicality rather than sentimental value, but she does need her instruments. She's also got numerous notebooks where she jots down notes for her stories.
Where does your Tav feel most at home?
She may be tired of them, but she is most at ease and in her element in a busy tavern.
What is your Tav’s philosophy on life?
Trust your gut. Don't ask for permission. Better to regret doing than regret not doing.
Does your Tav think more with their heart or their brain?
She flips a coin when conflicted.
What does your Tav want in their future? (domestic bliss, more adventure, a family, etc)
Some kind of stability, at least for a while. Doesn't see herself as a mother or housewife though.
What is your Tav’s worst fear?
Helplessness and loss of freedom
Is your Tav easily tricked or deceived?
No, she's very distrustful given the amount of tricking and deceiving that she's had to do herself.
If your Tav was granted a single wish, what would it be?
Immortality. Like I said, she isn't particularly wise.
How does your Tav feel about keeping secrets, both their own and others?
She'll respect other people's secrets if they respect hers.
How would your Tav react to a love confession?
Oh I have a whole fic about that.
What are your Tav’s biggest insecurities?
Struggles with impostor syndrome generally. Can't believe she hasn't gotten everyone killed yet. Why are they following her?
What is your Tav’s favorite food?
Anything with a bit of a kick to it. Dislikes bland food as much as she dislikes bland people.
How generous is your Tav, especially to those they don’t know?
Generally, she's not. Rather, she can be generous with information, not so much with money, items or time - unless it doesn't really hinder her or she stands to benefit in the long run. No point helping those who can't help themselves. She might make an exception for children or other women - she knows how rough it can be.
If an evil character told your Tav that they wanted to change and help them, would they believe it?
This would have to be an actions speaking louder than words situation. She'll believe it when she sees it.
What does your Tav want to be remembered by?
She's documenting the current journeys, but hasn't decided yet whether to keep her name in it. Or if so, which name.
What Tarot Card best represents your Tav?
Really not my forte. Perhaps Page of Wands.
What would be your Tav’s major in college?
Literature
Does your Tav consider themselves a hero, villain, victim or something else?
A reluctant participant and chronicler.
How good is your Tav at giving advice? How good are they at following it themselves?
“She generally gave herself very good advice, (though she very seldom followed it).”
How does your Tav get along with each party member?
Karlach is her best friend in the group. She wishes she could have had Karlach with her as a travelling companion over the past 10 years, watching her back and stirring shit up with her.
Gale annoys the shit out of her with the unrequited crush he's got for her.
She finds Lae'zel to be a breath of fresh air with how she says exactly what she thinks, and actually feels like she can relax around her.
Shadowheart unnerves her somewhat. She doesn't really trust any religious fanatics.
She would ordinarily be annoyed with someone like Wyll for the excessive altruism, but he is genuinely such a kind and openhearted person that she can't help but like him. She is NOT allowing him to co-write their adventures though.
Is somewhat intimidated by Halsin's sheer life experience.
And then there's Astarion, but you know about that.
What are your Tav’s other hobbies?
She drinks. She cheats at cards. And she writes. Whether it's chronicling their journey or original stories that come to mind. Thank goodness for that bag of holding, she's been lugging her notebooks around for years, not having anywhere to store them.

Lyrical analysis you say? 👀👀
I happen to be a bit of a musician myself (I was in my middle school choir and am lying to myself)
Would love to hear your thoughts on anything Hozier has written, but particularly Talk bc I also have thoughts on that one
okay this is nothing to do with bg3 so anyone who isn't interested feel free to skip over this. that being said i do think this song fits very well with gale when he was trying to get mystra to forgive him while he's in the tower.
if u are interested it's below the cut :)
this song is a fukin masterpiece first of all, i LOVE hozier. his lyricism is fucking incredible and never fails to sweep me completely off my feet.
this song is lyrically one of his more straight forward songs, if you know the context behind what he's referencing.
essentially, the story of orpheus and eurydice is a greek myth. orpheus finds his beloved wife eurydice dead, and sings a song so sad and beautiful that the gods take pity on him. he visits hades and hades agrees to let eurydice live again, so long as orpheus doesn't look behind him as he leaves. orpheus is nearly at the exit, only a few paces away, but he loses his faith and turns to check she's still with him. she's a few steps behind him, right where hades said she would be, but as soon as their eyes meet she's dragged back into the underworld.
now, when hozier is referencing this story he's specifically comparing himself to all of the best qualities of the characters in the myth. orpheus' devotion to his wife, the hopeful feeling he had that he could save her, the overwhelming need he felt to see her that overpowered his ability to follow hades' instruction, and eurydice in her final moments forgiving orpheus anyway because she loves him so much. this verse is hozier promising the person he's singing to endless devotion.
however, his next verse says that he's imagining all of the (presumably) indecent things they could do together. he admits that he's sweet talking them so that they dont see through to how badly he desires them.
the second verse goes back to him talking about how devoted and loving he can be. he calls true love a "lost myth" but insists that he will be the exception. he's different to others, he truly loves them. through the next few lines he's essentially selling himself as the solution to all of their issues surrounding love, he'll be the release that he believes they won't truly find in anyone except for god at the end of the world. he's bigging himself up again, he's essentially trying to sell himself to this woman.
you can view this song in a couple of ways, in my opinion. this song can be a demonstration of true devotion and love, hozier offering himself up to worship this person and telling them all of the ways he will cherish them. but i think it can also be seen as manipulative. he's sweet talking them even though all he's really thinking about is bedding them; think like a guy at a bar who knows all the stuff to say but is gone by the time you wake up in the morning. i think it can also be a mix of both, he truly loves them but feels unworthy. he thinks if they knew all the ways he thought of them they wouldn't be interested, so he peacocks and promises and parades around in the hopes of impressing them.
the songs in d minor key. by placing it in this key he's purposely evoking certain emotions/creating a specific atmosphere. d minor lends itself especially well to creating a melancholy or anxious atmosphere. a lot of songs about grief and sadness are in d minor. christian schubert, in an essay he wrote in 1784, uses the term "melancholy womanliness" to describe the key. i think that perfectly describes the atmosphere hozier creates in this song. a lot of people say that hozier is "for the lesbians" (based as hell btw) because a lot of the songs he writes are about true love and devotion to women. he's reverential in the way he talks about passion and romance, and it fits really well into the female gaze. you could view this song as him acknowledging this ("imagine being loved by me" could be him talking to the listener).
the song is 77bpm, which classifies it as 'andante' (moderately slow). it gives it a slow relaxed feeling, which really sells the whole vibe of him trying to woo someone. combined with the prominent baseline and the choral backing vocals, the song feels like worship. it feels like laying your soul bare.
it's no doubt his sexiest song. the song reeks of sex and sensuality. down to every detail this song is about seducing someone. it's romantic, sensual, and overall an absolutely beautiful piece that perfectly demonstrates hozier's prowess with lyricism. one of his main strengths is his ability to paint a vivid picture with his words.
this is quite a simple and surface level analysis of the song as i've whacked it together but in conclusion: beautiful sexy song and i am in fact imagining being loved by him.

Paladins and Oaths in BG3
SO I've been writing a fic about a Paladin who is the chosen of an unnamed god and WEEPING at how the god I did choose for them fits so beautifully with Gale's whole character arc of rebirth and coming back to life after isolation by falling in love (either platonically or romantically he always allows himself to be completely changed by the player character).
More babble about some headcannons for the inner workings of how Oaths work and Paladins within Gale's romance arc in BG3 under the cut
SO the God that I have chosen for my Paladin to worship is OSIRIS who exists in the broader DnD pantheon (specifically eastern Faerun). He is the God of Death, God of Nature, and God of Life and ALL of those happen to fall under the Oath of the Ancients route in BG3. To a scary degree, even though he is not mentioned anywhere in the game as far as I have seen (my sources are not that wide, I've only played through the story 100% one time on my PS5 and I'm playing through again with a Paladin to see how the fighting mechanics work as metaphors for being inspired divinely and trying to understand what the Oathbreaker is supposed to do in canon and not having purchased the art book so I have not seen if that was something they chose to focus on). It's sent me on a whole spiral into his lore and how he would absolutely canonically choose a Sun Elf to act as his sword in the world while he rests up and tries to take over the role as God of Death after the Dead Three are defeated. I've been on fire drawing all of the fun visual themes and secrets alluding to a godly presence in a comic about this.
My personal headcannon for Oaths in BG3 are that they act as intermediaries to place Initiate paladins into a Church. There is a period of intense isolation and study once you have sworn one of the available oaths, (Order of the Ancients, Order of Vengance, etc.) and after you have submitted an essay to an elder counsel you are allowed to act as an Initiate to the Order. No paladin is expected to stay in service to the Order forever, they're only supposed to be there while they find a Church that is right for them in theory.
Order of the Ancients, however, just has a thing for keeping some of their Paladins in service to the order. One could argue that the Oathbreaker needs to be stricter to Initates to make sure they don't embarrass the Order while they are interviewing different Churches, and that is why the cost of reconnecting someone to their healing magic goes up every time the Oath is broken, regardless of the offense until you reach a Church, then the punishment's cost is determined by the Church the Paladin serves. One could also argue that it would be against an Order's best interest to keep a certain number of initiates in their service so they don't lose out on a very steady stream of income.
How this ties in to the Tav of this world:
Luana Tanar'ri is a 186 year old sun elf, and she has been in service to the order for her entire waking memory as an adult (Elves rename themselves when they turn 100, and she does not remember renaming herself but she does remember entering Isolation and telling people how old she is). She mirrors the story Astarion tells us about the Gods in Baldur's Gate refusing to come to the aide of mortals. She tries so hard to keep herself in line when she is tadpoled so she doesn't make the entire camp pay the Oathbreaker to keep her useful as a healer. She goes out of her way to help other people to keep the Gods favor, even though she is pretty sure she must have done something really horrible to deserve to be in this whole mess in the first place.
As a healer, she has always been put as close to the battlefield as possible. She can't see someone hurt without offering them a healing hand. Her healing takes on a vision of what anchors the recipient to their lives, a way for Osiris to judge if this soul is worthy of being in his service when he regains power but the Order of the Ancients do not know that when Luana has been abducted and thrust into the Tav role in this story. They just need to use her for the pretty face she brings to their Order, a PR stunt doll and an income stream. After all this time, she has exhausted every possible option for a newer more senior position Luana could take in the Order to try to move out of the Initiate role. Her story starts the day she quits her job, which happens to be 48 hours before the nautiloid will come cruising through Baldur's Gate. She is almost 100% positive that if she stops doing good deeds for a single moment the Oathbreaker will catch up to her. She needs to make herself loved and adored by her companions, so they don't kick her to the curb once they get the bill for her latest crimes against the Order.
Of all the companions that she finds in camp, Gale offers the nicest distraction for her: a constant stream of information about the world they are exploring around them. She was always the one asked to clear out a temple and compile the loot to ship off to academics to study and categorized and she had never had the opportunity to be able to hear one of them work. It was too dangerous for their minds to be used for something as silly as battle strategy, but since he's clearly not fought anyone or anything before this adventure she tries to help him out as best as she can. She relies on her paladin tank combat training to try to clear paths for him, but she is confused when he is not relieved that someone else took care of it for him but seems to be incredibly distraught over the idea of her throwing herself into the fray and getting hurt. Even more confused when she finds herself spending extra time making sure the things she brings back to camp are up to Gale's standards as the de-facto Chef in camp and she is disappointed when he is not the one running the kitchen that night.

Hi amazing Mars! What are some of your unpopular opinions on Scream? You already know a few of mine---including the fact that overall I love these recent three films even more than the original trilogy. (Don't hate me---obviously I love the first three too, I just have a weird attachment to 4, 6 and even the underrated 5!)
ohh this is a good question and one i feel like i can easily answer but fair warning because obviously these will be semi-unpopular opinions lmao 😅
1.) Tara is my LEAST fav of the core 4 and i think she’s one of the most boring new age characters. I’m a huge Jenna Ortega fan but if they killed Tara off I literally don’t think I’d be mad and I’d majorly prefer that to losing one of the twins in Scream 7.
2.) Gale > Sidney. I absolutely ADORE Sidney as a character and a final girl but I find Gale to be more fascinating from a meta / narrative perspective.
3.) ^ And on this note… Sam > Sidney 🤷 Once again I find Sam to be a more complex final girl and I enjoy the way she bucks against the tropes of the genre. I could write a whole essay on this topic but Sam exhibits a lot of flaws that usually only male characters in media are afforded and I find that to be really interesting/forward thinking.
4.) I’m going to go off of one of your points there but 4, 5, & 6 were the best movies since the OG and definitely the best sequels in the franchise.
5.) I think Stu Macher is overrated. And the fact that people STILL think he could be alive or come back even though Scream 6 clearly made fun of that theory by having Ethan literally get killed by the SAME FUCKING TV is actually insane to me.
6.) People who complained about the amount of survivors in Scream 6 clearly weren’t listening to the meta themes of the movie, lol. Every (good) Scream film has a meta commentary and then a societal one. Scream 6’s meta commentary was on subverted expectations, and the movie does that by subverting the audiences expectation that expectations will be subverted. You think that one of the twins is going to die because they survived in 5 and this movie is “obviously” going to try and subvert you by killing a survivor! NOPE! Plot twist, they all live and even one of the newbies does.
(Mindy literally laid this out in her monologue btw, they name dropped subverted expectations and the last jedi for a reason and THIS was why…)
7.) I think the Scream fandom is too obsessed with ghostface kill counts and etc 😅 I judge the killers based on vibes and how interesting their narrative was… not based on how many people they offed.
8.) I really loved the Bailey-Kirsches motivation as ghostface and even if most of the fandom didn’t like their reveals I thought they had one of the best unmaskings/third acts in the franchise 🤷
9.) Also… last controversial take Chad > Dewey!

Genuinely the academia fic makes me want to read every poem you cited!! Oh my god. Obviously I looked up Staying Quiet and I had a moment of stunned silence and wonder that you specifically knew the poem and exactly where it would be at home. Insane. Also reminded me of other great academia AUs in that now I almost want to write my english lit end of semester essays, thank you for the motivation. Anyway I'm here and not in the AO3 comment section because in the author's note at the start you mentioned having planned out what the characters would be doing and since you were on point with what you showed I am so so curious what else you've got for this setting 👀 in any case thank you so much <3
up top, thank you so much!! amongst my friends, i am a known poetry heaux. i go to poetry readings and feel my feelings; my partner got me a necklace that's engraved with a buddy wakefield quote. i have one of his collections signed to me. i fucking Love poetry.
hieu minh nguyen is one of my personal favorites and something was pinging around in my skull being like "hey! listen! there's a poem from them that perfectly fits astarion!" it fell Perfectly into place, shout out to my adhd background thoughts that were So Sure that hieu minh nguyen's poem should be there.
i'm going to put the rest below the cut, because. i have A Lot of thoughts and feelings
let's start with what i directly used in all my visions converted to blurs:
wyll is a low-rung english professor at a state school when he Could be at an ivy league bc of his dad’s nepotism. but wyll doesn't want a position his dad gets him, obvi. i want wyll to want to be out of his father's shadow, damn it.
(ulder is dean of a business school at an ivy league in my mind. it just fits. as a person with an english/linguistics degree: ulder ravengard has hella business major energy.)
astarion has taken a year or four off from school at this point. i hinted at substance abuse being the main reason that it's taken him so long to graduate from the law program? when he was the same age as his classmates, i think he partied A Lot and ended up having to retake some classes during his undergrad. i think i landed on coke being his chosen vice? idk it's vague for a reason. he's trying to get his life back on track
wyll and gale share an office space.
now here's what i left on the cutting room floor:
astarion is Still older than wyll, but not by more than six years
mizora is head of the english department. wyll has to play nice bc he's waiting to defend his dissertation and she'll be on the panel. she uses this to push her work or responsibilities onto wyll
lae'zel is doing her doctorate in anthropology/paleoanthropology. she's researching ancient war strategies and how social norms impacted them.
minthara is lae'zel's advisor because they'd have a Great dynamic. she specializes in biological anthropology. she can ball park which century any given human skull comes from.
shadowheart is working on her doctorate of psychology and specifically writing her dissertation profiling the susceptibility of cult victims mixed with religious studies to compile information about modern worship
1000000000% there are rumors about shadowheart's personal experience with cults. people say she goes by shadowheart so the cult she escaped from can't find her. she's heard every joke in the book about midsommar. there's some frat boy in the greek row that swears up and down that she bit his buddy hard enough to draw blood when they hooked up.
halsin and jaheira do ecology and agriculture, respectively. environmental sciences people. they both have tenure. halsin runs an internship for wetland management in the summer. jaheira is like a leading expert in soil science.
jaheira told mizora she was a bitch during a whole university department head meeting once and that's why halsin's the department head now.
minsc is literally just a coach. he does not teach Any classes and hangs out with the university's mascot Constantly. he coaches rugby and crew in the summer, basketball in the winter.
gale is a double discipline professor for history and cultural anthropology. So Close to getting tenure. his rate my professor score is mid as hell bc students either love or hate him because boy does this man drone onnnnnnnnnn
he's been on like four different digs in egypt and will talk about them at length but does that thing of "my second time in cairo. wait.... no. it was my Third time in cairo."
i posted this on twitter, but here's the couch lore: the couch in their office is a hand me down from gale's apartment because tara scratched it to hell on the corner of the armrests + the reason why the couch doesn't have any throw pillows is because gale didn't want to be tempted to nap and he already has a terrible time maintaining a work life balance
karlach is in sports medicine. she coaches the track team and works with weightlifters that have olympic aspirations. she was good enough to go to the last summer games for weightlifting, but an accident with a treadmill that she doesn't like to talk about prevented her from going.
she still has beef with gortash because he was on the shortlist for open spot availability.
she's Convinced that he's on steroids

Just wanted to remind everyone that I am still working on my Trolls 2 Rascim Alagory essay. At this point, I think I'm gonna make a video because there is too much to just write. So I gotta freshen up on my drawing skills. But here is a list of films I'm gonna talk about that also handle rascim for kids. In the order of how well they handled the topic. Worst to best.
5. Z.O.M.B.I.Es by Disney. They are Zombies who killed humans. Then, one zombie disguises himself to look human, and the werewolves rely on Addi, a human, to give them back their land that the humans took. When the monsters, who have killed humans and go crazy, are supposed to represent the none whites, yeah. I don't like the thought of being represented as a monster who relys on humans to give them back what they took in the first place. The film is a guilty pleasure film of mine, though.
4. Zootopia by Disney. None whites are supposed to be predators who were savage and killed prey. Prey is supposed to be the suppressors. Again, I don't like the idea of me being seen as naturally savage and my people killing the suppressors because it's in our instincts. Also, the predators were the suppressors in some moments, which makes it confusing as to who are the suppressed and who are the suppressors. But I still adore this film to bits and it's one of my favorite films. Just not the best rascim alagory.
3. Elemental by Pixar. This is one of the best rascim alagory films for kids I've seen. Did everything perfect and beautiful! Love how they managed to make a story about interracial couples in a grand and accurate way. *Chefs kiss* BUT! I have an issue with the other elements having a good reason to fear fire. Fire just naturally kills other elements on accident. The tree that didn't get near Emebers parents? He had dry leaves and didn't want to die. Good reason. Sure, you can say that's the whole "we touched" moments are supposed to represent. That fire can be around other elements without being a danger. And fire being a danger was just a false stereotype. It could work if Emeber hadn't accidentally killed her boyfriend. Giving a good reason for other elements to fear fire. But that's just a nip pick, really. What REALLY bugs me, the term "fireball". Gale calls Emeber a fire ball to which Emeber takes a massive offense to. So I'm gonna assume she called her a slur. And then they never revisit that moment. Instead, they laugh it off. Gale said that she could get worked up during a good game, to which Ember agrees. I would not let that slide. If someone who's none Latino called me a slur simply because they were in the moment of a good game, I would be fuming mad. And then Gale calls her fireball again like a nickname. That's my only issue, though. Elemental is absolutely beautiful and a MUST SEE!!!
2. Cats Don't Dance by Warner Brothers. Beautiful, perfect, gorgeous, good music, stunning, loved it. Showed how hard none whites had it in Hollywood. Just no words. Watch this film. It's underrated as hell. My only nip pick, none whites are represented as animals, but it's literally JUST a tiny nip pick that you can't even see it. And I fully understand why they chose animals. It's for kids and kids love animals. You can easily humanize these characters, and nothing will change.
1. Of course! Trolls 2 by Dreamworks. Best racism alagory I've seen for children. Absolutely beautiful message, gorgeous animation, give whoever was in charge of casting a massive raise and a kiss and a hug and my soul to them. They did a fantastic job. As did everyone else involved in the film. Talked about colonizing, erasing history for their own benefits, differences do matter, so don't be color blind, and cultural differences and appropriation. Respecting and listening to others' opinions. Especially if it involves their culture. The only complaint is that the film is too short and should've been given more time. Also, a big one. They didn't make none whites a different species as the suppressors. They are Trolls no matter what with different cultures.
But yeah, back to writing that *checks* f$@%#!!!! 20 thousand word essay!!! Gotta delete some stuff, dam it.

Hi, I'm back with another essay 😂
I've had a busy week at work and I thank the heavens it is Friday because I need to just sit and stare at a wall for a while and decompress 😂 Also, my week's been fully thrown off since Monday as I did not sleep at all that night so I've been all over the place. HOWEVER, it's been a fairly alright week!
I thought I'd send in an ask to mainly talk video games because Dragon Age, ME AND Baldur's Gate? Especially ME?! I don't get to talk about ME enough!
Okay, so I have to admit that for most of the game, my party was Shadowheart, Karlach and the gith chick, Lae'zel, that you don't like 😂 And I have to admit that at first I was on the fence about her, but she quickly grew on me and even more so as the story progressed. Larian Studios gave each of their characters a great background and amazing personalities. And majority of them have great character progression as the game progresses, imo! (there's some things that happen in that game that I cannot comment about yet, but honestly, Larian Studios are creative geniuses lol)
In regards to Lae'zel, I will definitely want to hear more of your thoughts as you progress through the game!
Also, I cackled at the fact you restarted the game because you found out you missed Gale! 😂 I have to admit though - I would absolutely do the same! Let me know what you decide on him, because I went through the whole game and my opinion about him didn't change 😂
How are you finding the game so far? What do you think of the story and the characters you encountered? Both, the characters you can have in your party and NPC's? Have you tried to speak with any animals yet? 😂
Coming up to Dragon Age and Mass Effect… It's been years since I touched a Dragon Age game, but I remember the first and second games fondly. But Mass Effect… Oh boy, haha. I played the games… I don't even know how many times. ME2 still to this day holds a special part in my heart so when they announced an ME Legendary Edition with all three games reworked, all shiny and pretty?? You bet I got them and played through all three games :D And it felt like playing them for the first time again. Also, Garrus? Yes, please!
Have to admit, I was disappointed at the ending on ME3, both because of the ending they gave Commander Shepard and also because the ending that they originally came out with was… a flop and unsatisfying, though they gave longer endings after a patch because of fan disappointment. And I will forever think that the "secret ending" of Commander Shepard's N7 logo in those ruins actually means they aren't dead (there should also be a new ME game???! And they showed Liara in the trailer??!).
The universe that ME has, with the story and characters is just absolutely mind blowing and those games are beautiful ❤ And personally, I look for games that have a rich and deep story so the fact that we are talking about DA, ME and Baldur's Gate right now? My heart is singing and I am just all warm and happy haha
Another one of my favourites is Witcher 3. AND it was a fave before Henry Cavill became a live action Geralt 😂 I spent a lot of hours on that game... One could even say too many, but if anyone does - they're wrong 😂
But of course, I have to take a moment and scream about "Violent Delights", because excuse me? Where has Enishi Yukishiro been and why have I not seen him?? 👀 I know what I'm watching over the weekend lol I need to find time to go through your whole master list because your writing is like nourishment and it does unexplainable things to me!
And that sneak peek for chapter 7..? Oh fuck. These two petty fools will be the end of me 😂
On a personal note, thank you for your kind words in your reply. I appreciate you for taking the time to reply and share your lovely words with me because they mean a lot ❤
I hope your week has been great, Jenn! And I hope you will have a lovely, restful weekend! Sending you lots of virtual hugs! ❤
Okay so I KNOW you just sent me a brand new ask but I need to answer this one first! I am so sorry it took me so long to reply 😩
How have your weeks been going? It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with one another! I sincerely hope that no technology has been acting up and that your days have been peaceful and content 🖤
DID YOU BY CHANCE WATCH RUROUNI KENSHIN: THE FINAL WITH ENISHI YUKISHIRO?!!??? I legit wrote that thinking it would get him out of my system but it actually did not lol and I’m already just planning on continuing it but it’s just going to be filth. Pure smutty filth and I refuse to apologize 🤣🤣
Right now Karlach is still currently my fav! Her character is just so FUN. She has such a good attitude, and she is definitely the type of person I would want in a real-life crew. I’m torn on the love interest part of it because like…so far I like none of them lol. Astarion is in the lead, but barely, just because he’s a vampire and I’m a whore for love bites 😈 lol but I have noticed that he does have these soft moments through the indifference he conveys. He’s just different from who I usually pick in games. Although, in Cyberpunk I picked Judy but if I could’ve picked Johnny (absolutely LOVE Keanu) I would’ve lol. I love broody men.
I agree with you on ME3!! I’m so glad they went back and added more to it. I think it allowed a lot of us to get the closer we needed when it came to our Commander Shepherds. And yeah, if you chose the destroy option, they hinted that he/she was still alive, but I could never choose that one. I’m such a paragon lol I wanted everyone to get along and if my character had to sacrifice herself to do it, I did it every time (I can’t do that to Eve) 😩😩 except the one time to see if the destroy ending was worth it. I won’t hold my breath about the new DA and ME trailers they showcased a couple years ago, because Andromeda was not a fav lol. I think trying to bring in a new character to take over for shepherd is going to be incredibly hard, but I am interested to see if the continue with the storyline of inquisition for DA!
Baldur’s Gate 3 is just such a breathe of fresh air because I’m such a whore for a good storyline. I LOVE them. It makes it so much more immersive and makes you care about the outcomes of those in your party and your character. Witcher 3 was sooooo good at that too!
I’m still waiting to replay Cyberpunk 2077 from the beginning because of the Sons of Liberty DLC. I’ve heard amazing things about it, and I’m hyped but I got 2 weeks left of Uni work and then I graduate and I’m DONE! I’m so ready lol 🤣🤣
Thank you for always being such an absolute joy to talk to and for the essays lol. For being one of the sweetest humans alive. I hope your weekend is treating you well 🖤🖤 much love

scream 6 thought dump:
so... mixed to negative feelings on it.
spoilers below.
good slasher, with great chases and kills, but not a good scream movie, because it doesn't have the balls to kill off any of their now-bloated list of legacies (sidney, gale, kirby, tara, sam, mindy, chad... come on. take out sam and one of the twins at the Minimum.) and it has nothing to say about the state of horror.
the requel sequel speech was flat as hell and reachy. off the top of my head: 'requels that recast the usually white straight male legacies with women, poc and queer chars', and then incite rage from bigoted corners of the fandom; true crime fetishization of real murderers by hybristophiles who keep harassing the actual victims; elevated horror trying to force campy fun lowbrow franchises to ~level up and be about Social Issues~. any of these could have worked. instead we got ~subvert expectations~
which the movie doesn't even do. surprise surprise, there are multiple killers who are people we already know in disguise working together, violence getting amped up with every installments is the standard, and all the main characters live. ~i'M dIfFeReNt~' these ghostfaces keep saying but they aren't.
i like that there are finally three killers, but they just regurgitate scream 2's motive of 'getting revenge for family member who was a killer in the prev movie.'
you wanna subvert expectations?
-kill the designated final girl, sam, right away. i'm glad they actually tried to give her character better material, and that they're acknowledging her negative reception with the meta 'internet hates me' moments.... but kill her off. please.
-have the characters immediately anticipate there being several killers.
-have the killer survive the film, and be arrested at the end.
-take the good ideas from the opening: revealing a killer's identity immediately, and there being competing ghostfaces, and go with it: we know one killer's identity from the jump and the suspense lies in waiting for the others to catch on,
-and having two unrelated killers try to make competing 'movies' with different motivations and profiles.
anyway. we got. that.
also: it's dumb as hell that sam didn't recognize her own boyfriend's family, or that gale, who has regressed to her scream 2 characterization and wrote a book about the requel killings, doesn't recognize the family of the killer she profiled. all the more reason to Not Do That.
also: kill kirby OR mindy. we only need one movie nerd and too many people are surviving.
and i know i've said this already i think it's very sexy of scream 4 to predict both influencer culture, the final-girl-as-killer trend, and that the scream franchise would eventually swap out sidney with a younger woman who's edgier than her. big sigh.
and that the writer-directors absolutely are the fanservice-obsessed hacks that they're trying to satirize. they can't write scream movies bc they can't critique the tendency of requels to suck off the originals while failing to do anything truly new... because they're too busy sucking off the original.
at this point sidney's exit being that she's married to kincaid with 2-3 daughters isn't even reassuring. who wants to bet money that in 5-10 years, when those daughters are teenagers, scream 16-or-whateverthefuck will have sidney being murdered in front of her girls to make them the new trio. which will retroactively make sidney's whole story about how her mom was raped and killed when she was sixteen, she was hunted by people who would never let her forget it, and she literally never escaped it and the trauma repeated itself on her own children.
because i'm me, of course i'll be throwing a revision bulletpoint essay down here. being that i am Nobody On The Internet, of course this isn't gonna be great, but hey, you're reading this.
first, i'm gonna chalk 2-4 up as a done deal. in a perfect world hallie mcdaniel would be the third killer in scream 2 as originally planned, and that dumb 'gays can't die' rule wouldn't be around in scream 4, which ideally would've come out around now instead of in 2011 so jill's influencer monologue would make more sense and kirby would be the final girl of this new trio with sidney as a mentor figure, but we'll go with what we have.
and because so many of the problems started with scream 5.... well,
5:
first of all: spoofing requels is the right move, ergo two killers, obsession with ~the original trio/town/characters~, and absolutely dead-on with the motive being toxic fans trying to create real source material for their movies to draw from.
i love the opening girl lives subversion. if anything tara should've been the final girl of these movies, because 1) the whole conceit of sam being the convenient secret daughter of billy loomis who happens to have magical deepfake deaged hallucinations of him urging her to be a serial killer is so fucking dumb, and derivative of scream 3's secret family twist, 2) i Hate that at this point the movies are more about billy loomis than sidney prescott, and 3) jenna ortega acts circles around melissa barrera, who does nothing to elevate the bad role she already has.
plus the killers' plan to frame sam/all the original red herrings about her being the killer.... nah. we already HAD a final-girl-is-the-killer twist in scream 4. sam is not jill roberts.
anyway sam is just the older sister of tara in this version. no secret parentage. maybe she has a troubled history, or mental illness, but she isn't ~billy's secret daughter~. maybe she's tara's guardian, maybe she's still estranged.
the requel rules are solid. but they need one addition: "there are going to be two killers." because Come On. that's the biggest takeaway of the killer profile of the original.
it seems like in an earlier draft the characters all being related to the first kills was a bigger factor, what with liv being a mackenzie and vince being a macher. personally i think that needed to stay. the new crew have no chemistry as a friend group. if they're acquaintances who aren't that close them hurling accusations of murder at each other actually makes sense.
as for how they all get together: let dewey do it. he's the only og still in woodsboro, he was a cop, he should be able to put it together. give him a bit of development from dope cop to the guy who figures it out.
as such: let's make the kills related to the original.
tara's still targeted, because she lives in casey beckers' boyfriends' family's house, and her big sister is the Designated Final Girl.
let's have liv, the mckenzie/casey stand-in, get stalked, but survive, while creepy ex vince, stu's nephew, get killed. and before vince dies, build him up as the black sheep sam originally was: the blood relative of one of the original two killers, who everyone walks on eggshells around... only for him to die unceremoniously. and to cast suspicion on liv. (this would probably be what gets dewey to gather the requel gang to explain the rules and alert gale and sidney.)
wes and judy, to trigger the For Wes Party and because the og hates anyone who isn't an Original Survivor. this would be the principal analog.
dewey. we need to clear up room for the new cast, his arc's already at a firm close, and him going out protecting tara isn't a bad way to go. especially if the killer's logic is trying to finish tara off for completion's sake, and they're trying not to touch dewey (because the Originals Are Sacred), but are forced to kill him.
i like the chad death fakeout. let's keep it. he's the new dopey but sweet guy. we'll retroactively recontextualize his attack as like, the killers expecting to kill liv as a tatum-analog, but chad walking in instead.
and kill liv at some point after the killers are revealed, but not the headshot. her being a red herring is the only good thing that was done with her character.
do something new by building sam up as the obvious final girl, and then kill her unceremoniously at the start of the third act. that gunshot to the head liv gets? give it to sam. there was never a plan for sam to be the Real Final Girl; she's just a placeholder to lure sidney back to force her to relive this again. requels always bait the audience with more diverse casts only to treat them as disposable in favor of the (white straight) original characters. the second sidney and gale came back, sam outlived her usefulness.
tara's the final girl, and her being unexpected is what makes her interesting. she's not sidney, she's not a slasher fan, she has nothing to do with the originals, (she's not white,) she spends most of the movie in a wheelchair.
richie and amber as the killers is good. i like that they're a gross couple, that richie ingratiates himself as sam's boyfriend, and that amber lives in stu's house and that's how she has access to it/became obsessed with the woodsboro murders (she's the stu connection). keep all of it.
and probably add some meaningful lines about how their plan kept going awry because as it turns out, expecting people to be the carbon copies of the characters you're forcing them to be for the sake of your requel accuracy isn't gonna work in reality. tara isn't going out like casey and neither was liv, who also wasn't tatum. mindy and chad aren't randy. sam isn't sidney. and richie and amber aren't billy and stu, as much as they want to be.
so anyway: tara, mindy and chad should've been the final trio.
also sid and gale should have burned stu’s house down.
6:
the big city location is a great idea.
so's the alternate ghostface/early reveal opening scene, with laura being murdered by jason. as said before, i think competing killers/at least one having their identity known to us right away, could have been great and we should've done it.
but let jason live. it'd be more interesting to learn one killer's identity right away, and watch him ingratiate himself with tara, mindy and chad at uni.
mixed feelings about sidney's absence. on the one hand her taking her family into hiding works, on the other i can't see her sitting out an obvious threat to them. or stomach that sidney's absence is because they wouldn't pay neve what she's worth. maybe i'll think of something later and edit it in here. for now, let's imagine she's getting her family somewhere safe and then showing up for the climax.
since sam is dead, let's just totally ignore the sam-was-framed stuff, and reposition the harassment as mindy and chad, and tara in particular, getting hate for not being the ideal victims or the survivors anyone wanted (read: not being white/straight, like the originals, and not being related at all to the originals in tara's case). take the glimpses of ghostface worship and build that out too.
give kirby more to do. and kill either her or mindy. we don't need two film nerds
(... or two meeks-martins for that matter. if mindy lives, chad should die, vice versa).
since kirby's an fbi agent, and the new characters are meant to be on one about avoiding threats, let's keep them actively hunting for ghostface... but you know, have them expect to be dealing with several killers.
keep the tense chase scenes. the ladder, subway and bodega sequences were great.
don't make gale regress as a character. if anything, given that 4 was about sidney confronting the idea that being older makes her expendable in the face of a younger woman being positioned as her replacement, and 5 was about dewey technically becoming a competent protector, 6 should've been about gale.
specifically, since gale used to be a muckraker, make the killer's motive tied in to the true crime/serial killer fetishization craze a la true crime podcasters and that dahmer netflix series.
if gale hadn't written the woodsboro murders, the stab movies would've either not been made at all, or been very different. things to think about that the franchise hasn't really touched on.
but mindy's big monologue about this movie's satire shouldn't be about that. it should be about bigoted internet outrage culture, where 'fans' of a certain demographic get viciously hateful over a reboot casting diversely.
which brings us back to the competing killers:
killer 1, jason, is one of those dudes. he's angry that the new survivors are queer/poc and wants to get rid of them to Make Room For Sidney To Return. he was literally introduced as a student stalking and killing a female film professor. feels like you coulda done something with that.
and killers 2 and 3: quinn? i guess, and another girl. we've never had two female killers before. let's do it. they're a great fit for that true crime/serial killer fetishist/hybristophile theme. they think billy, stu, richie, mickey and roman were all ~misunderstood~ and should be avenged.
furthermore i think it would be hilarious if the girl ghostfaces kill the guy immediately because they're grossed out by his motive or don't find him hot enough to excuse it, given how hybristophiles love to create excuses for often-white male mass murderers at the expense of their often-female/poc/queer victims. or them insisting billy and stu were together and that’s why they snapped, as they intentionally target mindy. take a jab at fake righteous female fandom.
and the characters are caught off guard because they don't expect more than two killers, let alone that they aren't all working together. they were so busy figuring one motive out that they didn't consider the other, or that half the time the murders didn't fit the rules they deduced.
anyway. give gale the big hero moment. something to wrap her arc up in a bow, from ambitious vicious girlboss muckraker reporter who can't wait to profit off the deaths of a bunch of teens to someone who intimately cares about the victims of these crimes and understands and takes responsibility for how her irresponsible reporting made this situation worse. fwiw i do think sidney needs to be present for this culmination, being the only person to see this transformation from start to close.

PART TWO LETS GO !!! Okay these are in the list (technically) So I know what you did last summer was pretty cliche and too famous in pop culture so I already knew some of the deaths ;-; BUT I didn’t find the cast as annoying as I expected to (except for barry, he sucked even before the murder stress) enjoyed it but wouldn’t rewatch a lot or watch the sequel immediately after it, i also suuuper curious you know
NOW omfg Nightmare on Elm Street HOLY FUCK what a franchise, the ending of the first one was so like unexpected and vague i HAD to watch the sequels immediately (rip to the ppl who had to wait like a whole year to know what happened, sucks to suck)
Jokes on me Freddy’s revenge had nOTHING TO DO WITH THE MAIN PLOT (and i had to go to bed by the time it was over) but it was still really good tho !! Like the idea of F possessing someone irl ???? Brilliant !! THE ALIEN/BIRTH/EXPLOSION THING ???? WHAT ?! I also liked it carried on the universe’s story without explaining the ending of the first one (idk if it was on purpose or they didn’t know what to do with Nancy yet so they stalled but i liked it !!)
And then it was three, holy fucking shit holy fuck Dream Warriors the one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life (a proper rival to Scream ngl) AAAAHHH I could write a 12 page essay about this movie, the cAST ???? Angels! The dream powers ??? AMAZING! The dude psychiatrist actually listening and trusting Nancy instead of acting like shes crazy ??? PERFECTION !!!! also the fucking dream warriors song holy fuck what a banger, I’ve been listening to it non stop
ALSO (major spoilers ig sorry sksksks) WTF THEY CANT JUST KILL OFF THE FINAL GIRL ???? THATS SO RUDE WHAT THE HECK ?!?!?! I really liked her ;-; she was a really good final girl, like smart and resilient and a fucking Survivor you know (feeling absolutely gutted)
OMG YOU WATCHED THEM!!!!!
It's been a hot minute but I remember the SHOCK of 3. Why do yall think Stu and Billy and Randy keep mentioning in a trilogy anything goes and YN could be a Nancy? (Lowkey wish I would have left it ambiguous that I was writing for 4 and 5 to up the anti here) Like how many franchises kill the final girl and keep going???? In a good way bc yeah I was super upset Nancy died but also it made it more interesting bc if SHE can die; anyone can. (And I think Wes intended 3 to be the last so damn what a power move on his part) Can you imagine if Sidney died in Scream 3??? I feel like I'd never watch it again but also if it was done very well and the new final girl was good (Or we follow Gale trying to figure out who killed Sidney like they never caught Roman OR how Jill was supposed to kill Sid and be the new final girl until someone found out her dirty secret) I would still watch it and be on edge bc the only thing I feel 5 REALLY had going for it was killing off a main character that hasn't happened since Scream 2 and we were livid and shocked and enthralled...But we still couldn't stop watching! Bc who else?!?!
I'm so glad you liked the series I may not write for it but it is a great slasher series
