I just ended the first 'hunger games' books, (it's my first actually interacting with this saga), and i ADORE the take on the concept of love in this book. hear me out:
Love, as a concept, it's both one of the most revolutionary action ever seen, AND a way of reproducing the system. the love Katniss feels for Prim and Rue it's everything the capitol is against, it's uncomfortable to them, and it's bcs of her love to them that she starts to hate them.
In the other side we can see the way romantic love keeps her alive, how she do things that aren't natural to Katniss to keep her and Peeta alive. we see how she can recognize the way having kids, or a marriage are ways to just see them suffer her same faith, how they won't be safe. the system has no appreciation of human life, but loves a good show and two lovers gives them that, love gives them that.
I'm not saying romantic love is less than other forms of love, but it's a duality, how can be two things that are opposites at the same time. Some kinds of love are more comfortable than other.
Katniss does a thing very beautiful, she loved Prim, her father, her mother, Gale, Peeta, Rue in the worst possible scenario, that's what makes her hate the capitol, and her heart hurts bcs of everyone that died in there.
That's an action of revolution in a world that wanted them to hate each other.
