Hi I hope you don’t mind, but I was wondering if there are any tips you would have for someone who’s practicing how to draw anatomy? I’m getting back into drawing again and it’s a struggle understanding anatomy from how arms are to legs and such, it’s a bit funny that I don’t struggle much with hands but the rest of the body is a struggle. Anyways I hope this isn’t annoying and I hope you have a good day!
Okay so I'm late to reply but I do have some thoughts
People say practice everyday but that's not 100% true. You just need to be able to Observe and Deconstruct.
By Observe I mean look at Real anatomy. Look at how people around you sit, or how a model stands.
(using SenshiStock as example)
Look at how the weight sits. Are they leaning more weight on one leg, or are they standing up straight? Its important to understand how real bodies work and move, so you can translate it to art.
Now by Deconstruct, the most important thing is that everything is made of shapes. You'll notice in a lot of anatomy posts they show the body broken up by lines for proportions.
(Example image of Clip Studio Paint 3d models)
Of course this example doesn't show exactly How to break up the body. So here's one I did myself using the stock image from the top
Something that helped my anatomy A Lot was just getting a bunch of stock images and 3d models and tracing over and breaking down the shapes of the body, then moving the trace sketch to the side and doing it on my own.
Even if you don't want your style to look like mine, understanding how anatomy works is important with any type of art. You can break the rules if you don't know how they work!
(Example: some art thats slightly more 'cartoony')
The most important thing I can tell you though is that it's okay to be messy and make mistakes. I myself am still learning! So don't be discouraged if it gets frustrating. Sometimes you have to step back and take a break, and that's okay.
Like here's an quick sketch example I did
You can see it doesn't entirely follow that initial rough messy sketch
Essentially TLDR anatomy is hard but you don't have to grind at it, just learn how to break things down and build them up again. Practicing it good and I suggest trying out some loose gesture drawing as warm ups before you work on anything big.
I hope this was at least somewhat helpful to you, Anon, and I wish you luck on anatomy!

Start a fic with a very simple premise. Promise yourself: "This will be a short one." Write. Realize you haven't planned enough, and the fic is growing much longer than anticipated. Panic (optional but recommended) Keep writing, sobbing because why is this so long? Finish the fic (!!) Celebrate (mandatory). Start a fic with a very simple premise.. Promise yourself: "This will be a short one." Write. Realize that something feels familiar. Panic.
