Ninjago Dragons Rising Season 2a spoilers below
Arin is going through the ringer in season two. Which, I’m not complaining about—I love angst and seeing characters go through pain, because that’s how they grow to become stronger. You can’t make an omlette without breaking a few eggs, and whatnot.
But Arin is a passenger on the struggle bus and it gets a bit painful to watch, at some points.
It’s clear that, by the end of season one, he feels like he’s fallen behind Sora and Wyldfyre’s training; after all, he’s still the only one without an elemental power, and he’s only been able to successfully do his object Spinjitzu a few times, and all of those times were when someone he cared about was in danger. So when Season 2A starts up, and Arin struggles multiple times with just defeating the Bad Guys by himself, it’s obvious that the writers of Ninjago Dragons Rising are setting up something for him.
I’d talked about it in my previous analysis, but I do enjoy how Arin and Sora are pretty interesting as character foils. People have talked about how the dragon imagery with Sora conflicts with the growing Oni imagery given to Arin and how dragons and oni don’t mix; to be honest, I’ve never seen the last seasons of Ninjago, so I’m only picking up that lore from other posts, but I think that it’s interesting how Arin and Sora are developing together in opposite directions.
Sora is, obviously; getting stronger. She’s reached her True Potential, after all. While she doesn’t learn Spinjitzu in Season 2A, it’s obvious that she’s going to have it down by the second half of the season, maybe whipping it out in the finale just like her TP in the S1 finale. She’s also become a bit stronger, and a bit more optimistic. She’s developed Elemental Mech for the other Ninja, and her control over her tech powers have only grown since we’ve last seen these characters.
Arin, on the other hand, is almost getting weaker? Or, perhaps, he’s stagnating in his growth. He hasn’t been able to perform object Spinjitzu since the S1 finale, and is constantly getting beat up by the other bad guys. He gets beat by Cinder. He gets beat by Lord Ras. He’s only able to somewhat defeat what’s-her-name because Riyu is on his side and she’s kinda weaksauce anyway. (I know her name is Jordana; this is meant to be a joke.) He can’t protect Bonzole from being taken by Lord Ras and used.
He is going through the gutter this season, my poor blorbo.
I think Sora “helping” Arin in the final fight by using her elemental power to mimic his object Spinjitzu was nice of her; but it’s going to lead to a fight, I’m sure. The writers seem to be setting Arin up for what looks like some sort of corruption arc.
You know the story. A character is left behind by their “friends”, and is adopted into the bad guy troupe. They commit a few crimes, maybe go a bit too deep into the rabbit hole, but they come to their senses and defect back to the good side, now a bit spicier with a bit more trauma. It’s a fine and fun story to write. It puts characters into uncomfortable positions. The good guys have to reckon with the fact they left one of their own behind, and their own defected to the bad side. The bad guys have to deal with turning this goody-two-shoes into an Actual Villain, which has varying levels of success.
But I don’t think they should do this with Arin.
Would Arin make a terrifying bad guy? He’s a ninja super-fan; he knows all of their weaknesses. He would be absolutely terrifying as a bad guy.
But, I’ll be honest: I don’t think he has it in him.
Now, the writers could do something big to him, and he could defect and join the bad guys, but I don’t think that could be as fun as the other possible arc Arin could go through, that I think would be ten times more interesting;
I think Arin should quit being a ninja.
Not forever. But temporarily.
One of the biggest things in the show is the phrase “ninja never quit”—the ninja are trained to be determined to see things through to the end. To keep fighting for the good of Ninjago, and the newly merged realms. They have hundreds of thousands of people relying on them, they can’t quit in the face of evil.
They say it multiple times. It’s their motto, their theme; they don’t quit, no matter how hard it gets. When Kai gets locked in the cursed hell in-between space (forgot the name of it), he’s not going to quit until he gets back home. When the ninja train to learn the Rising Dragon technique, they don’t quit training, trying to figure it out, even as they run out of time.
But Arin? Well, Arin’s been trying to follow the motto, but it looks like the world has decided to beat the crap out of him constantly no matter what. He keeps getting beat up. He keeps losing to the bad guys the other ninja could beat with little issue.
I think Lord Ras says it the best;
“I stopped you as easily now as the first time we met. I was weak like you, once...”
Arin’s not progressing as a ninja; in fact, he might be degressing, a bit. He gets knocked down a fang when training with the dragons because his Spinjitzu is too raw and uncontrolled. He can’t figure out his object Spinjitzu. He’s going through the motions of being a ninja, but getting beat up at every turn, and everyone has these great Elemental powers, and Arin’s just… Well, he’s just Arin.
Honestly, going through all of that, I’d be thinking about quitting, too. It would just be easier to hang up the towel and call it a day. It’d be a lot less painful. He wouldn’t have to worry about the fate of the world, he could just return to The Crossroads, or maybe he could quit and focus on trying to find his parents.
But I think he should quit. Full-stop. For a few episodes.
It’d be great to explore what would happen to Arin for a few episodes, maybe even though he quits, he can’t stop trying to help people and save them from danger. How even though he doesn’t have an elemental power, he can still do great things. Learn how to be great himself.
It’d also be great to see how the other characters react to Arin’s decision to quit. Stories are built upon the interaction and conflict between characters, which drive character growth and plot. Sora would try to drag him back, obviously; either Arin or one of the older ninja would make it clear that it would be wrong to drag him back to a world he doesn’t want a part in. They’d all be shocked, of course. Maybe hurt, betrayed—ninja never quit, right?
But what if a ninja did quit?
Arin is the most interesting character in the Dragons Rising series. He’s a relatable individual for many old Ninjago fans, and represents that audience, a bit. He’s living the dream of becoming a ninja that many of us could never be. But he also keeps getting beat up by the bad guys, he can’t control his Spinjitzu, or do his special thing, and he doesn’t have an elemental power (yet; I see what you’re doing with the Source Dragon of Motion, writers). He’s the odd one out, the black sheep of the ninja.
If the story keeps beating him down, well, maybe he just needs to quit, in order to find himself again, and build himself back up, either on his own, or with the help of his friends.
Ninja never quit, of course. He’ll find his way back to Team Ninja eventually. But maybe… Maybe ninja need break?
(No, that doesn’t work as well.
Eh, whatever.)
Ninja never quit permanently.
He’s one of the main characters. He’ll get dragged back into the plot whether he likes it or not.

golden power; never wielded
my first work for @ninjago-angst-week! prompt - abandoned (16/08) Lloyd's never known what it's like to share his heart with another, linking two lives together as if one had found the melody to their chorus, now a song in perfect harmony. If he’d always felt like he was invisible; wondered if there was something fundamentally wrong with his inability to touch others’ hearts, then, well, that was no one’s business but his own. Of course, that was before he quite literally fell for someone - the first person, actually - who seemed to care. Of course she was too good to be true. Or, the S8 angst I've been wanting to write about 'game of masks' and the aftermath. trigger warnings - suicidal thoughts, brief mention of implied self-harm, not really a warning but it talks a lot about loneliness. "How did you know?"
"It's an Oni Temple. It's safe to assume that only an Oni could take it."
"No. How could you know that I was part Oni?"
How could you know that I was part Oni?
The question repeated itself in his mind, echoing into the blizzard.
Sometimes, he wondered what would've gone down at the temple if he hadn't been so observant.
Well, he thought bitterly, probably not the temple itself.
The walls collapsing, he'd caught a glimpse of his terrified face as the room filled with swirling inky blackness, freezing him to the bone.
But the real pain came from her words.
Ah. Your emotions. You can't get rid of them, can you?
No, he'd wanted to yell, staring listlessly at the shaking grey semblance of sky.
He'd always felt like he wielded the element of light; invisible, trapped behind a barrier that no one cared enough to break. Isolated; locked away from the world. Longing for - yearning for - a single soul to want to know his heart. Pain that almost felt tangible, bleeding into every motion, every day.
Everyone else seemed to find it so easy - so effortless - simple as breathing, taken for granted like it was ingrained into their bones. Everyone else seemed to have given away a little piece of their heart - to their parents, friends, or lovers.
The fact that his was, and had always been, entirely whole?
He was either cursed, the venom from the Great Devourer passed down to him, or there was something fundamentally unlikable coursing through his veins.
By this point, he assumed it was the latter.
Maybe, if anyone had ever cared - wanted to know him - he'd never have felt like it was pressing down on his chest like a casket; a useless block of ice that no one wanted, not even the unfortunate owner it'd been given.
If no one would know his heart, he'd thought, grabbing a forgotten map, he'd strike fear into theirs - until they knew what it was like to sob into invisible barriers, to gaze upon the world with a weary eyes and a heart heavy with the knowledge that if they vanished, no one would even notice.
He'd realized far too late that he had unleashed an evil that couldn't be controlled - or one that could only be controlled by his- by someone else that had sunk beneath the darkness until no light remained-
He'd escaped from the crumbling casket, energy and eyes blazing - only to find that Har- she'd already escaped with the mask.
The Oni Mask of Hatred.
As they had steered the boat through the river, her sweet smile hiding lie upon lie, he'd thought it was somewhat ironic - two lovers, seeking a literal manifestation of hatred.
He'd laughed bitterly; no mirth in the sound.
After his first crush had - well, literally tried to crush him, he didn't think that this day could get much worse.
Until she dropped him into a contraption that was the stuff of nightmares - leaving the others with a seemingly impossible choice.
He'd wanted to yell, scream, that they should save his mother - he'd hurt enough people over the course of his short life, as evidenced by the grief-stricken orphan yelling a foreign language right in front of him.
I'm the expendable one! Maybe she was right - it was my fault the Serpentine were able to release the Great Devourer. And it took thousands of lives - but never the life of the one who was to blame.
He'd grabbed the vengestone bars, the faint sense of numbness they brought a welcoming relief from the storm of emotions that- he honestly had no clue what to do with.
i could drown, he had thought briefly, fleetingly. what if i drowned and i never hurt anyone again-
you have  a responsibility, even though you've pretty much failed to uphold it so far
"Clotho venge! Clotho decer! Clotho haeed!"
Shoving the thought to the back of his mind, he'd gripped the bars tighter, ignoring the sting of the metal against skin.
If anything, he'd welcomed the sting.
Any pain was better than the agonizing reminder that his heart was, and had always been, entirely whole.
He didn't even realize he was trembling until he heard his father's voice echoing from the vortex.
His father hadn't asked to be bitten by an evil snake, the venom coursing through his veins for years upon years. He hadn't asked to be dumped at a boarding school for bad kids, spending what he had left of his childhood hiding in empty classrooms or yelling empty threats as his classmates snickered.
Against all odds, they'd been reunited. Evil snakes, Fangblades, even Jade Blades - none of it had stood between them.
Just when he thought they might have a future - he might have a- a family - the Cursed Realm decided to curse them all.
His father with imprisonment, him with a life devoid of a father he'd loved, at the end.
Now H- she wanted to resurrect him?
His father had been so much more than the Oni blood in his veins. So was he.
But if he was completely Oni-
Lloyd didn't like their odds. He kind of hated them.
"Clotho venge! Clotho decer! Clotho haeed!"
---
A few chaotic hours later... they'd won? They'd won.
The Sons of Garmadon (he'd always thought the name was kind of ironic - he, the only son of Garmadon, wasn't in their crazy biker gang) had been imprisoned by courageous, if a bit overzealous, taser-wielding policeman.
Ninjago was celebrating - everyone was; he should be, too.
Should he really revel in their victory, though? It was his fault that she'd been able to snatch the last mask, all the safeguards the Oni had put in place practically worthless because of his stupid feelings-
H- Harumi had been thrown in one of the police vans.
"You're right - this isn't me," she'd started, her meekness almost convincing him that she really was the girl he'd fallen for - the girl who'd been forced into a mask she never wanted to wear, but someone who still cared about the world... and- and about him.
"Stop."
He'd cut her off, the venom in his tone surprising both of them.
"Save it for someone who cares," he'd forced out, the hurt welling up his chest almost as painful as their unceremonious descent into the jungle, (the descent she'd orchestrated, he'd thought fleetingly, squeezing his eyes together) unable to believe that this- this liar was the same sweet girl he'd fallen for.
With that, he slammed the door of the van, locking her in - wishing that locking his memories away could be easy.
She'd never cared about him; simply needing to use him as if he was nothing more than the power he wielded.
He watched one of the policemen drive her away, the tired-but-enthusiastic cheers of his teammates nothing more than background noise; static.
Vaguely, he realized that his heart wasn't quite whole - he'd given a piece of it to someone whom he had thought would link theirs together in harmony, the melody to his chorus; what he'd been searching for ever since he'd woken up screaming in a 'boarding school' that seemed more like a prison.
She'd taken more than what he'd given - draining the light from his entire being as if she was the Overlord, stealing his golden power without a shred of remorse.
That failure was practically painless, compared to her-
An almost unfamiliar emotion slowly stated to replace the ache in his chest that he'd grown used to for all those years; it'd become comforting, even. Watching the world go by with a heart that seemed more like a curse, he briefly, fleetingly, wondered if he'd be better off without one.
If there was ever a problem that presented itself to Nya while she worked on the Bounty, she used to joke that it'd be easier to just dump their entire hard dive into the sea.
Destruction seemed to be easier than fixing, he conceded - the van now just a glimmer of bright light; one of the many that made up their vibrant city.
"How did you know?" he heard, yet again wondering how he felt so disconnected from his own role in the memory.
How had she known?
The whisper of a voice long gone bled into his consciousness, his hands shaking at his sides even as the city celebrated.
Why had he even asked that?
Plastering a smile on his face as he walked over to his teammates, the question repeating itself in his mind, echoing into the blizzard.
FSM - she didn't need to be leader of a biker gang to know that.
Who could ever give their heart - the epitome of human connection; golden power all on its own, albeit of a different kind - to an Oni?
Maybe he wasn't the one trapped behind an invisible wall, built on tears and loneliness and yearning and heartache and a lone question - why? Why could no one seem to look past the cage he felt himself trapped in, observing the world rather than playing a part in it.
He hadn't been a- abandoned by everyone, he realized, a weary sense of clarity and shadowed eyes not sure to accept it or push it into the back of his mind like the hours he'd spent there, as if he'd ever want to have hurt his teammates like he did, the twisted ghost-
He trailed behind his teammates as they sang - horribly off key, his mind pointed out, forcing a small smile onto his face - lost in the figurative blizzard, despite the fact that the sun's rays had only vanished a few hours ago.
If no one would know his heart?
FSM - could he really blame them?
(if you read this far, thank you so much, you’ve made my day:D)

Chapter 6 - Time For Rainbows
[ DS ]
The first week of school is always one of the most stressful times of the year and it has taken its toll on me by Wednesday already. While I’m really glad to be back with my kids and I love them to pieces, they’ve been randy all morning and it has been difficult to keep them engaged.
The bell rings signaling the start of recess and I heave a relieved sigh. I’m on recess duty with one of my three best friends who also teach at this school. Sarah, this year’s first grade teacher, is already waiting outside and bless her, hands me a cup of coffee.
“Thanks, S. How’s your day been so far?”. She looks out over the playground at the kids. “Eventful. They little ones are really adorable but they’re a feisty bunch. Can’t keep them focused for more than a few minutes today! How are the big ones, D?”.
“I hear you. Guess the full moon is around the corner and-“. Suddenly, I hear screams from behind the swings and handing Sarah my cup of coffee, I hurry over to the group of kids that have gathered.
On the ground in their midst lies a little brown-haired boy, crying, his knees and hands bloody. I ask the kids to give him some space and continue to play before I crouch down next to the little brown-haired boy, touching his shoulder gently.
“Hey, I’m here. You hurt your knees and hands pretty bad huh?”. He turns his tear-streaked face up and nods silently. “Did you hurt your head?”. He shakes his head no. “Do you mind if I checked?” Another headshake accompanied by a sniffle. I carefully lift his unruly brown hair from his forehead and check for any injuries, thankfully finding none.
“Okay, I’ll take you inside and we’ll take care of your wounds, come on”. I pick him up and he whimpers into my neck. “It’s okay, honey, you’ll be okay. What’s your name?”.
“F-felix” comes the muffled reply. “Wow, that’s a really awesome name, Felix!”. I ask Sarah to send one of my kids to the school secretary so she can call the parents to let them know their son has been hurt during recess and ask them to pick him up.
I carry the little boy inside and sit him down on the bench in front of the classroom. “I’ll be right back okay, don’t worry!”. Hurrying to get the first-aid kit from my classroom I return and crouch before him. Technically, I’m not allowed to treat kids for legal reasons, but our principal has given us some wiggle room for minor injuries like these, if we let the kids do it themselves. If they can’t do it, we have to call the parents to take their kids to a doctor or call an ambulance ourselves if we can’t reach them.
I crouch down in front of Felix and I can see the fear in his eyes as I explain to him what I’d need him to do. He sits up straight and takes a deep breath. “Okay. I’ll try it. I’ve read about first-aid in one of the big books at home, I think I can do it!”. “Oh, you mean your mom has read to you from one of these books?”.
A few emotions I can’t place pass over his face and he opens his mouth as if to say something, but thinks better of it at the last minute. “No, I can read them by myself.”, he says quietly. Not wanting to pry, I show him what to do and in no time his wounds are cleaned and sporting Ninjago band-aids.
“You did a really good job, Felix, you must be so proud of yourself!”, I praise him and give him an encouraging smile. He cocks his head to the side, eyeing me curiously, then breaks into a smile himself. “Thank you for showing me how to do it!”. He tries to move his legs and grimaces in pain.
Just then, his head turns and he jumps off the bench exclaiming “Dad!”.
I turn slowly to greet his father and as I look up at him, I find myself staring up at the most handsome man I have ever seen and my breath catches in my chest. When coming upon the phrase ‘He took my breath away’ in novels, I usually scoff and roll my eyes. Surely this doesn’t happen in real life. But here I am and, so help me God, I feel like there’s an elephant sitting on my chest.
His dad checking Felix over gives me a few moments to recover and, I’m not proud of it, to check him out. The first thing I notice is his strong jawline with a slight stubble, my eyes wandering further upwards to kind, hazel eyes watching his son, taking in the unruly head of brown hair so like his kid’s. Then, my eyes drop down to his mouth and notice the deliciously full bottom lip.
‘Oh Jesus, Mary and Joseph, how good would it feel to run your tongue-…. Get a hold of yourself Dana, this is so incredibly unprofessional! There’s a mother waiting at home for them, for goodness sake.’
I’m saved from my indecent thoughts by Felix turning towards me and I straighten up, wipe my sweaty hands on my skirt and hold out one, praying to God it’s not shaking with nervousness.
“Hi, I don’t think we’ve met, I’m Miss Scully, I teach fourth grade.” His big hand reach out to grab mine and as we touch, a tingle runs all the way up my arm. ‘Uh oh.’
He introduces himself as Fox Mulder and I try my very best not to be charmed by his smile and boyish demeanor. Thankfully, I manage to remember that I’m still on recess duty and it takes me all the way to the playground to get my breathing under control.

Brighter Every Day, Chapter 1
[Chapter 1 - you are here!] // [Chapter 2] // [Epilogue] (FFN)
Summary: The future may be bright, but it isn't here yet; even so, life gets brighter every day. Knowing their future paths, Cole and Vania undertake the task of devising this bright future. With many obstacles and victories, they know they will be happy in the end... but in what manner? (Rated T for safety. Book 2 of the Cosmic Spoilers AU, sequel to The Future is Bright.)
This story is a sequel to another of my stories!
Prequel fic: The Future is Bright (#the future is bright, FFN)
------
Chapter 1: You Make It All Okay
Cole Brookstone was an expert, professional ninja. He was a master fighter, a respected fighter, and an Elemental Master. He'd fought monsters and demons, survived becoming a ghost, defeated ancient evils, overcome terrible odds, and become a legend. He had done great, heroic things, and all of Ninjago knew his name. Even the people of other realms knew of him!
Over his years of service to Ninjago, he had served its people faithfully. He had never wavered, and despite close calls, they had never lost the wars they waged. Cole's work was a part of that; even death for the cause was not enough to stop him from protecting those who could not protect themselves. He stood up to many a tyrant, and for his work he was often rewarded by great adventure and fame.
All of Cole's work had rewarded him well, all things considered. He had a family that loved him dearly. He had his mother's legacy. He had a human body again, and even more elemental power than before. He had become someone worth calling a hero. He'd even gotten a glimpse into his future.
Yes, the future was bright, and the present was brighter every day. He'd learned he had a future, back when he wasn't sure he did. Then he'd learned it would take place in the Ivory City of Shintaro. Last but not least, he'd learned the identity of the person with whom he'd spend the rest of his life in Shintaro: its ruler, Queen Vania.
Now, as he faced the world ahead, Cole found that life was good. He was happy, Ninjago was safe, and all was well in the world. He could relax, knowing he was a ninja who could protect all the people he loved.
Plus, according to Vania– who had agreed to be his girlfriend, to their mutual delight– he was also a wonderful pillow.
Today, Cole was in Shintaro to visit her. This time, they were simply sitting together in a big plush chair, and she rested her head on his chest quietly. It wasn't the first time they'd cuddled like this– their first kiss had happened in a moment just like it. It was simply the most recent, and this time, he appreciated it more than any other.
Cole sighed, eyes closed as he rested with her, thinking about the past week. Like usual, they'd dealt with a particularly bad series of emergencies; none of the Ninja had been able to sleep more than three hours a night. Fires, an untimely earthquake, and flooding had taken their toll on the outskirts of incorporated Ninjago City, and the countryside hadn't fared much better in a lot of those circumstances.
In addition to the damage of the various disasters afflicting their country, crime was spiking. In Master Wu's words, "the wake of natural disaster made many desperate people." The Ninja had been tasked with helping the police handle the huge brunt of the need for defense, and they'd taken it in stride to the best of their ability. Even so...
It was all over now. The chaos was finally past, but Cole was still dealing with the sleep deprivation and exhaustion. He was so, so tired, and little fixed it other than sleep.
Presently from her place beside him, Vania nestled into Cole's arms. He was struck by her size– she was so small that he could easily wrap an arm around her, and farther besides. She was a wonderful woman, and the fact that she was willing to just sit with him was relaxing and soothing to no end. It made him wonder how he deserved her and her love, if he deserved her to begin with. What was a woman like her doing with a man like him– a hero, but still only a man?
The ice caves had been a blessing and a curse, back when he visited them for the first time. Now, he knew they were mostly the former, and ever more by the day. Foreknowledge of his life gave him hope for the future.
For years, Cole had struggled under the weight of prescience. When he'd visited the First Master's tomb for the first time, it had revealed his future to be in Shintaro. Through a few choice meetings and another two visits, he'd figured out that his future was with Vania, rather than simply being in Shintaro. Now, he knew doubtlessly that she was the love of his life.
A tap on his chest pulled him from his thoughts, and he looked down to meet her bright gaze.
She smiled at him, sweet and beautiful, with curiosity in her eyes. "What are you thinking about?"
He smiled back at her. "Just about how I deserved you, Queenie."
"If I recall, nobody deserves anybody else."
"I mean… that's true, but I've still got you, and it wasn't because of me doing something to earn you." He chuckled, and with the arm that encircled her, he rubbed little circles into her side. She closed her eyes in pleasure, and he smiled at her reaction to such a simple, affectionate gesture.
Vania sighed happily. "Deserving people isn't a real thing."
"Yeah… but still. I missed you this past week. I'm happy to be here with you."
"Yeah?" She looked at him again, her gaze soft. "I heard about what happened in the city. It sounded really chaotic."
"Oh yeah. Let me tell you, it was definitely not the best week of my life." He smiled wryly, yawning. "I'm really sleep-deprived."
"Oh, that's not good!" She frowned, reaching up to touch his cheek. "Did you need to use one of the guest rooms and get some rest while you're here?"
"Nah, it's okay. I don't want to waste any of my time with you because I need sleep." He bent down, kissing the crown of her head. "I'll be okay."
She sighed, laying her head on his shoulder again with another little smile. "Okay isn't always good enough, though. I want you to feel wonderful."
"Who's to say I don't?"
"Well, your yawning says otherwise." She reached up an arm and poked him in the shoulder, smiling all the while. "You should take a nap!"
"No, I want to be with you!" He squeezed her gently by the waist. "I haven't seen you in weeks, Vania!"
"Silly, I'm still going to be here when you wake up!" She reached up and touched his cheek again, caressing it. "Just go to bed, Cole. You'll feel better."
He frowned, but seeing as that wasn't going anywhere, he took a different approach. "Well if I'm going to sleep, I'm going to sleep right here in this chair. I'm not moving."
"That's fine." She raised her head from his shoulder, pushing herself up from her place against his side, and his embrace loosened as she slowly left it. "I can just go work and let you sleep…" She looked him in the eyes, and hesitated. "Since you clearly need a nap."
He smiled a little. He didn't want to let her go, but to force her to stay would be rude. "According to you, I do. Do you not want one? It's not like this chair isn't big enough for two."
"Oh, no, that's not what I meant!" She blushed a little. "It's just– it's not exactly appropriate, is it?"
"Bah, whatever." He rolled his eyes, smiling wider. "Do you want it to be inappropriate?"
"No, this is my palace! I'm the person in charge here!" She pouted. "I have a reputation to uphold."
"Fair enough…" He sighed, feeling exhausted again. "I didn't think about that. I just..."
She sighed. "Yeah." Her mouth was open as she prepared to say something more, but she kept silent, hesitating for an agonizingly long time. "...I really shouldn't."
He nodded, letting his arm fall from embracing her. "Fair enough. If you think you should go, then go."
She hesitated again, looking like she was extremely torn. There was a light in here eyes that was distinctly hesitant. Her eyes really were beautiful, and today they shone with the light streaming in a window to the side– they were lit up in a sapphire tone that he couldn't help but adore.
With every second that passed, Cole expected her to get up and leave him alone in the chair, but it didn't happen. She just kept watching him, until finally, something changed in her mind. Then, slowly, she began to lower herself back down into his embrace, gaze flickering with confliction. "Well… okay, it's not like it's really that inappropriate, is it?"
He hesitated, heart beating fast as he watched her slowly take the place she'd occupied before. "Are you staying?"
"Yeah. I don't see why not... and a nap would be nice." She smiled at him, blushing dark pink. Once again, he was struck by her surpassing beauty. "If you don't mind, that is."
"'Course I don't, Queenie." He smiled back, feeling warm and happy as she laid back down. When she was comfortable, he wrapped an arm around her to cradle her into his side for warmth. "I don't mind at all."
With a happy sigh, Vania laid her head back down on his chest, closing her eyes. "I guess you're my pillow again, Cole."
He grinned, closing his eyes in the face of sheer sleepy happiness. "Am I, now? That's not the career choice I thought I made."
"Well, it's the one you got." She snuggled close, head under his chin as her soft hair splayed across his shoulder. "So you'd better like it."
"Fine. I'll be my beautiful girlfriend's pillow." He kissed the crown of her head, the warm fuzziness of sleep starting to descend. "Where's the harm?"
She sighed, reaching up to rest a hand softly on his other shoulder to cuddle him. "It doesn't matter where the harm is right now. It's not with us, and it's not here in Shintaro."
"Not here," he repeated, letting his hands settle on her waist.
"Yeah. Not here."
"I think I can get behind that," he murmured, eyes feeling heavier. "A peaceful life sounds good right now."
"It does." She sounded so sleepy, yawning so quietly. "Do ninjas protect against nightmares too?"
"Of course we do. Wouldn't dream otherwise." At his words, she giggled. The sound sparkled, and he squeezed her a little as he watched her. "Got some dreams to fight off?"
She glanced up at him, smiling mischievously. "Only the ones that don't have you in them, handsome."
He blushed, beaming at her. "Well, good news, beautiful."
"I know." She blushed too. "I love you."
He chuckled as she hid her face, squeezing her the tiniest bit. "I love you too, sweetheart. You're always safe in my arms."
"I know I am. I never doubted that." She snuggled in closer, much to his delight. "Just like you're safe in mine."
He sighed happily, cherishing that feeling of security as sleep drifted over them both. "I believe it, Queenie."
She sighed softly. "Good..."
As quiet returned, Cole closed his eyes again, finally surrendering to the call of sleep. It was sweet and soft, even singing to him… as Vania's heartbeat gently slowed as she drifted off, he felt it take him too.
Before long, the lovers were quiet without stirring, peaceful as they held each other. A hero and a queen, embracing in sleep, keeping each other company– it was nothing if not perfection.
As sleep took him, Cole's last thought was one of bliss.
"You make everything okay."

i personally think u should write about the AU where Five was completed before the lab was destroyed. maybe a few moments where the ninja see how much Five truly cares for her brother?
A/n: this ended up being not what you asked at all akljnasdjlas sorry, I literally stopped it right before we see her interact more with the Ninja. 1500 words
When she’s turned back on, it’s to wreckage and loss. Her siblings are gone, the mechanics and programmers too scared to venture back into a lab that’s one gentle breeze from collapsing in the roof. Her home is a death trap- or a grave, the bodies of her siblings laid to rest in their docking stations.
Her creator, with her salt and pepper hair and her laugh lines and her brown eyes, is the only one brave enough to risk the carnage.
“There you are.” She says, taking Fives hands. The world is thick and soupy around her limbs and her head, she's not quite sure where she begins and ends, her start-up rushed and shoddy, “Come on, Five, come on.” she says it like a plea, the support beams around them creak ominously.
She is supposed to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Her creator is trembling, paper and salvaged hard drives and folders clutched under one arm, the other held fast to fives palm.
Five moves.
____
“What did you say your name was?” He asks, there’s a spark of something in his eyes that she cannot decipher.
“I didn’t.” She shoves her hands into her pockets, settling down next to him on the bench. It’s a secluded little thing, on the outskirts of the park near a walking trail, half-hidden in the shade of the forest closing in on them, “It’s Five.”
On her HUD, there’s a blinking warning.
Ice detected.
“It’s a unique name.” He remarks, pinning her with a calculating look.
She shrugs one shoulder, meeting him eye for eye, “I didn’t like any other names I’ve tried on.”
He’s right to be suspicious, of course, it’s not every day a random person came right up to an elemental master and made themselves at home. She isn’t scared of him, and he doesn’t seem to want to hurt her- or anyone, for that matter. He’s got a book in his lap and he’s holding a pen, and he doesn’t seem inclined to share what he’s been doing. He’s drawing. One day she’ll be lucky enough to see his sketches.
“Can I sit with you, Rudolph?” She asks.
“Of course, Five.” He nods, closing his book and putting it away. They sit in silence and watch the morning tick by.
She will watch him, just to be sure he isn’t a threat, and then she will move on. This is temporary.
___
“You are my longest friend, Five.” Rudolph says one day. They haven't seen any of the other Elemental Masters in awhile, not since her friend had stood up one day, from his home that was quaint and small and just big enough for the two of them, and walked out the door without ever planning to return. She had followed him, out onto his journey, dreading the destination with each step.
“And you are mine.” She tells him quietly, the snow crunches beneath their feet quietly.
“You have never lied to me, and in turn I have never asked you anything that would require it.” He stops walking, his old and wrinkled hands clutching at his walking stick as he turns to face her fully, “But I have always wondered what you really are. Do you think you could satisfy an old man's curiosity?”
She is as young as the day he met her, “You would be angry with me.” She tells him honestly.
“I won’t be, I promise.” His eyes twinkle, “As long as you promise to forgive my secret, too.”
“You’re hiding something from me?” Old protocols flare, suspicions she hasn’t indulged in years. She firmly clamps down on those feelings.
Rudolph chuckles, “You first, me last.” He resumes his trek, the snow soaking chill into his pant legs, and he shivers at the touch.
She hesitates, and then she follows.
And then she talks.
When she is done, he says, “I knew you stuck around because of my element, from the first moment we met.”
“i’m glad you allowed me to stay.”
___
“I will miss you.” She says honestly, sitting as his side in the little camp they’ve made. Silence stretches into the forest, the snow pausing it’s gentle travel to give them their peace.
He’s dying.
“Part of me will always be here, in Ninjago.” He nods to the snow around them, “You are not alone.”
the fire crackles and spits.
“I have been selfish.” he admits suddenly, “I promised you if you told me your secret, I would tell you mine- but when I heard about your programming, I withheld my truth because I was afraid you would leave me.”
She frowns, “I don’t understand.”
“I am not the Master of Ice. I have given my power away to a boy in birchwood forest, when you had gone to town to get us food.” He folds his hands over his chest, clutching his fingers together, “I never told you because I did not want to be alone. I’m Sorry, Five.”
Her HUD flickers to life, and she runs a scan she hasn’t had to run in years.
No Element Detected.
He hums in her silence, it’s a quiet sound in the dead of the night, the dying fire casting odd flickering shapes across his skin, “But your purpose has been evolving, you are not a machine like you think. I knew you were watching me, but I was watching you too. Somewhere along the line, you came to care for me, dear, and I care for you too.” He reaches out to take her hand, and he trembles from the cold, “I love you, my friend.”
She adds wood to the fire to hide the wet of her eyes, “I love you too, you know this.”
“I do. I understand now I would not have been alone.” His eyes close, “We are not alone.”
Five feeds the fire, and breaks camp in the morning, and doesn’t know what to do.
No Element Detected.
She needs to go to Birchwood forest.
___
She knows loss, and how much it hurts. She’s survived it once, she can survive it again.
Protect those who cannot protect themselves.
There’s a boy in birchwood forest who needs guidance.
Five moves.
___
She’d never been here, Rudolph and her having split up for a handful of days while Five resupplied in town. The snow is thick and deep here, she struggles to trudge through it.
Halfway into the forest, with the threat of Treehorns hanging around her head, Five feels a program that was never supposed to run ping gently in the back of her mind.
The world stops, and then kickstarts back as she races through the snow with fervor.
___
This is her first time waking up.
She’s been awake before, inside the computer, with people asking her questions and fixing her when her code hurts and breaks. This is her first time in her body. Her skin is silver, there are wires poking through, metal plates shifter and out of place. Her inner mechanisms in her chest are exposed, the blue glow from her core fascinating and welcoming.
She feels connections branching out from her mind, pings filling up her head, and she knows- it’s One, it’s two, it’s Three and Four-
It’s Zero, all of her siblings, she can feel their presence in her mind- it’s a basic thing, something that was maybe supposed to be developed into a wireless radio, but it doesn’t get that far before the lab is destroyed.
What's the use of it then, when she's the last one left?
___
She finds him sitting on his knees in the snow, on the outskirts of the forest. She’d nearly missed him in her desperation, he’s dressed in all white. It’s clear he’s been walking for a long while, his pants soaked through. He’s clenching and unclenching his hands, his eyes are wet.
He looks up at her, wide eyed and surprised, and she falls to her knees too, her strength leaving in one shocked rush- it’s him. It’s her brother, it can’t be anyone else, it’s Zero.
“I know you.” He says plainly, the familiar and comforting connection in his coding flaring to life.
She nearly can’t keep from crying, clapping her hand over her mouth to hold it in. she has to be strong, she has to be.
His eyebrows knit together, “I- I am Zane.” He tells her gently, clenching his fists on his thighs, unsure how to approach her emotional state, “I… I don’t remember anything else, i’m sorry.”
“You’re- it’s fine.” She sloshes through the snow to take his hands, holding them like a lifeline. She smiles and it’s the most genuine smile she thinks she’s ever had, if a little watery around the edges, “You don’t remember me, but I’m your sister, Zero. I’ll protect you. You’re not alone.”
He looks up at her with big doe eyes, and she nods, all determination and strength, “I promise.”
Her HUD flashes.
Ice Detected.
Thank you, Rudolph, She pulls her brother into a tight hug.
Protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Protect him.
Her purpose is evolving.
___
When Wu comes, as she knew he would, he doesn’t recognize her. She didn’t think he would, he had been awfully self absorbed around the time she had been hanging around, too caught up in his own drama to pay attention to others. He asks politely to speak to her brother, she refuses, far less polite.
Zane has a nightmare about his own death that night, and Five wonders if she can survive it again.
In the backyard she used to share with Rudolph, she teaches her brother Spinjitzu, and hopes it will be enough.
___
A year later, three boys show up on her doorstep, and she knows she cannot keep him from destiny any longer.
But she sure can tag along.

Winter Holiday HC (Shelter Together)
In honor of the holiday spirit (which for me is esp up bc I celebrated Xmas today) I decided to dole out my own personal hc for what Ninjago’s winter holiday would be. I’ve mostly drawn on my own knowledge of how most winter festivities began for this, and I hope it’s turned out well!
Origins:
Shelter Together (official name)--also called Winter’s Feast (most common in conversation), Shelterfest, or Feasting Time--takes place between late December and mid February. These months are some of the coldest in Ninjago, and so the holiday was first just a tradition the people practiced to keep from going crazy while locked inside and avoiding the chill. People in the village would find the largest open space near them, build a huge bonfire out of whatever wood could be spared, and ask everyone to bring a little of their harvest preserves to share with everyone. This event would happen throughout the months until spring.
Evolution:
As the years went by, Winter’s Feast spread until it was practically unheard of to visit a village that didn’t celebrate. It also was a time when plenty of people would recognize who could not contribute to the feasting and the fire. That’s when the gift giving tradition began. Winter’s Feast gifts are always practical. When it was first beginning, people would usually gift something that would aid the recipient in the coming year. Usually warm clothes, food, medicines, tools, or even a promise of work. Because of this, the fall harvest season and Winter’s Feast became intrinsically linked, with many people planning their gifts during those months (especially if what they needed would be inaccessible in winter).
As time went on, the tradition’s stayed mainly the same, however now many places have a large community building either to themselves or (more commonly) shared with other communities. Bonfires are the most used symbol, with many of the patterns on gifted clothes centering around this. Donating to local shelters, hospitals, and other community facilities is also in the spirit, and most yearly pledges made to them occur around Winter’s Feast.
(Below the cut are my hcs for how the Ninja and my OCs celebrate)
How the Ninja celebrate:
With each other, it’s a small and simple affair that usually takes place right before the actual Shelterfest season before they join community festivities. Kai will start the bonfire, with Cole helping chop down wood from nearby trees. Zane will cook a meal for all of them, enlisting Lloyd and Jay as his helpers (they only fetch ingredients, Zane doesn’t dare let them near the pots in case they decide to pull a prank). Sensei Wu will brew special teas for them to share around the fire. Everyone has a signature gift: Zane makes different sweets and jams, Kai will make tools and weapons, Jay makes nifty gadgets that will usually last until he builds a better version of them next year, Cole and Nya team up to sew and embroider sweaters for everyone (Cole can’t cook, but he is a master with thread and Nya learned how to sew clothes with Kai as one of her Shelter Together gifts), and Sensei Wu promises one week free of training in the spring for everyone. Lloyd didn’t really know what to do at first (all of Darkley’s gifts were gag gifts, although you occasionally would get one in the actual spirit of things) but he and Misako--and Garmadon, for a short while--all began making different medicinal tea mixes together. Wu loves them, because he is absolutely obsessed with tea, and the ninja treasure them after rough training days.
Cole and Zane will usually head to New Ninjago City to celebrate, as the Royal Blacksmiths perform there and Zane never had a village other than his friends to celebrate with.
Kai and Nya will head back to their hometown and open up shop for gifts and new tools for the farmers. They always enjoy heading back to their roots and Kai really loves doing fire tricks for the kids.
Lloyd, Wu, Misako, and Garmadon stay together. They tend to travel to different remote villages around where Wu and Garmadon grew up, where they’re received with open arms.
How Twyla’s Students and their allies celebrate:
Twyla loves Winter’s Feast, and takes the opportunity to travel with her students all over Ninjago. They always visit Jasmine and Willow’s home village, before dropping by the Serpentine’s caverns to see Nataly’s family, and going to New Ninjago City for those whose homes they can’t visit. Roxie makes everyone ugly patterned sweaters, Jasmine and Willow make different medicines and soothing bath items, Jackie promises her magic for a number of favors in the spring, Hannah and Kyle will make either decorative tools or foods, and Nataly loves to share anything related to Serpentine culture, especially foods.
Jonathan and Cyrus will normally spend half of the holiday in Cyrus’s home village and the rest in New Ninjago City. They each work to make special tools for people that blend both tradition and technology (the mailman will never forget when he was given a tricked-out motorbike with package and letter pockets, and a screen to watch his shows on the handlebars).
Luna will usually join with the rest of NNC with Rufus, and her gift tends to be comic themed cakes and books for kids. She always tries to keep the books helpful in some way (learning books, school textbooks, how-tos, etc) but will occasionally slip a comic in the pages as a surprise. It’s very uncommon for those kinds of presents to be given, so she tends to keep it secret.
Ivy and Ronin will head somewhere as remote as possible and hop from town to town in order to eat and receive gifts from some kindly people who (they assume) don’t recognize them. Once they’ve exhausted those options, they’ll sit out on their own in Stiix and celebrate in an empty town (as most people tend to head far out for Winter’s Feast). They will usually give each other different tools for thievery or warm clothes, and sometimes gift expensive, stolen tools and clothes to the villages they visit (both to get it out of their hands, and because they can’t resist the spirit of the season).

Hi everyone!!! 💜💜💜
Today is my birthday! 🥳🥳🥳 DJ Kleb put on some music, let's celebrate!! 😎
Tumblr media
Been another year, so let me take out my imaginary book of fairy tales and let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, an Italian fangirl discovered the Tales of Arcadia world 😍
So I can admit, I started to watch the show very late, even if I knew about it for a long while: that's because the screenwriters of my beloved Ninjago, Dan and Kevin Hageman, had announced they were going to work on this. I thought that it could be worth it just by that, but never really got interested. Besides, I didn't even have Netflix at the time, so eh 🤷‍♀️
Fast forward time, it was a month before the release of 3Below when me and my friend decide to share to get Netflix. And I remembered about the show, Trollhunters, and I decided to give it a look.
And I guess I kinda-
Tumblr media
I DEVOURED IT, REGRETTING ALL THE TIME LOST NOT WATCHING IT 😢
There was just something really special in all of this, from this very standard yet pure protagonist, this smart love interest, a best friend that was actually and always supporting his best bud (how I loved Toby 🧡). Then the trolls, the bonds between the characters, the plot, the villains, the feelings behind and 🤯
After I discovered it was going to be a trilogy, I got super excited but scared as well: new characters, what about Jim and the others? Will I ever love others like I loved the Trollhunters team?
If you know me enough and the way I fangirl about beautiful baby boy Krel, you know the answer is yes 💙💙💙 3Below got me good, the best sequel for Trollhunters with the complexity of the characters, more beautiful bonds and a new thrilling atmosphere. Also that's how I met my OTP Kreamus 💜
And now, we are waiting for Wizards that will probably kill us all 😅 So thrilled and hyped for it, HECK YEAH 💕💕💕
All of this to say that I'm really happy to be part of this fandom, full of talented and wonderful people I'm glad I met!! 😊
I'd like to make just a few names, it's a thing I did last year too for another one of my fandoms and I like the tradition 🤷‍♀️ Whoever is in the TOA fandom though, love ya pal 👍
Sooooo:
@akozuheiwa My favorite Kreamus artist and mutual shipper! Girl I'm so happy I've met another person crazy for these two math dorks!!! 😎😎 (also the writer that taught me to fear the 🙂)
@thearcadialedger THE theorist! I love your theories about the show so much, they inspire me a lot! Also your posts about The Dragon Prince are beautiful ✌
@ginger-le-gay What can I say, an absolute icon, never met such a loyal fangirl before. Really inspiring 🧡
@fligshaag Wonderful artist, your work is beautiful, I love your style!💕
@shitpostsfromarcadiahigh Do I even have to say it? I know I'm gonna wake up with a smile as soon as I see one of your shitposts 😂😂
@earth-ambassador-jim A mention for the very nice art you make and the fic/fanart I got for the secret santa on Christmas, it was the cutest thing 😍
@yellowmagicalgirl I love your posts, especially about Douxie, your theories are so cool! 👌
@regwishesshehadmagic Always present in the Krel Tarron tag 💙 Also your GIFs of the show gives me life 😚
I know I missed many of you, sorry about that, I honestly appreciate every single old and new member for the fandom! 💜 Anyway thank you for your work! We're going for the third part of this amazing trilogy!
... so yeah, I guess I'm celebrating my last birthday before the storm 😅
Well then everyone, stay safe wherever you are and have a good day!!! 😙😙

With Chamille’s idea running none-stop through his head, Cole found himself more and more sold on the idea of donning a mask again, but for a completely different reason than being a ninja. Now, it all comes to whether Cole can make himself do something he hadn’t done seriously in years.
Chapter 04 - I’m Thinking, 1886 words
As the night drew to a close, and the sun had already passed the horizon and was steadily rising into the sky, Cole still hadn't made his way back to the monastery. The night like always, had been hectic and fun. Chamille had grabbed onto the hood of his jacket a few times to try and drag him into the stage area, and Cole had successfully nearly choked himself by refusing to move anywhere that wasn't that little bit further away from the centre of the crowd. But he had been thinking.
To say he was hung up on what Chamille had said was an overstatement, though he was giving the idea a bit of thought. That, just like when he was a Ninja running around in a mask all those many years back when their faces weren't on the front of newspapers and their names weren't attributed to being the saviours of the city multiple times over, having his identity under wraps had provided clear advantages.
The main one, before he'd told his dad the truth, the secret identity had allowed him to keep up the lie that he was still attending Marty Oppenheimers' even when he'd run away, whilst actively being a ninja and helping people. It was nice because he could go from a Ninja that people could look up to, to a random guy on the street that no one batted an eyelid at.
The fact that people knew who he was and what he did now? Cole didn't mind. He knew that he was good at what he did, he knew that now that people knew him, that they had a face to put the Elemental Master of Earth; he could stop feeling like he needed to keep that part of his life a secret and just live it up to the fullest. He was a Ninja, he was happy for people to know that.
But the idea of wearing a mask, to put distance between himself as a person and something he was totally not thinking about doing, was a good idea.
So much so that when it had passed six in the morning, Cole had successfully stayed awake for twenty-four hours, and he was still up and about a couple hours later. Why the single arts and crafts store in Ninjago City had later opening hours than every other store on the high street, he had no idea. Though it did give him time to up his coffee intake to a total of three cups from three different cafés, along with commandeering a public restroom to wash as much neon paint off his face and his clothes as he could in order to stop himself from looking like a walking advert for a traffic cone. All before the store opened.
It came off his skin and out his hair easy enough, but his hoodie was definitely a lost cause. He'd have to have faith that a wash would fix it, but he didn't have high hopes.
So with coffee in hand, and an extremely vibrant jacket tied around his waist, Cole was the first customer into the crafts store and he had some form of idea as to what he needed. Cardboard, a plastic mask base, some thicker and stronger elastic and an assortment of paints. Specifically, oranges, blacks and whites.
The more he looked around, the more that caught his eye and the more ideas he got about what he was going to do. So maybe he bought a few extra things, like some paint that apparently glowed in the dark? Or an assortment of his own neon paint since he had to make up for purposely spilling a load of it over Chamille somehow?
Cole left the store with a full bag slung over his shoulder and set off back to the monastery. Now all he had to do was come up with an excuse for why he was walking into the monastery nearing midday after he'd clearly been shopping, and why no one had seen him leave that morning - because he hadn't even been there.
He had time, though. The trek up the stairs back to home was enough to think up a multitude of excuses, the only hindrance to his plan was the absolute mess that was his hoodie and jeans, decorated artfully with paint.
The plan was to get to his room, change, then make an appearance.
Only sometimes, as good as Cole was at strategic thinking and plans, there were always hiccups. That being on his way past the living room after sneaking past Kai massacring a training dummy in the courtyard, he hadn't taken into account that anyone would be sitting down and having a rest. The sound of the game console should have clued him in, but Cole had already stepped past the open doorway without much thought.
"Cole, you're back!" came a loud voice, and internal cursing quickly followed.
He situated himself with his head poking into the living room, his painted clothes carefully hidden behind the wall so they weren't on show.
Sat on the couch, the light from the TV reflecting in their eyes and the music paused along with the game, was Lloyd and Jay. Jay beaming with a wide smile and a crooked eyebrow, he'd probably just beaten a particularly hard level.
"Where were you?" Lloyd questioned after a moment, his tone far too measured and concerned for someone his age; and in the space of a second Cole realised that if they'd found out he wasn't there that morning, that they might have worried.
He hadn't even thought of that.
Cole let out a small breath and gave a smile, "Headed to the city pretty early on, walked there. I didn't mean to worry you guys or anything."
Jay interjected, "Worried, us? Nope, you just missed train-- oomf."
Lloyd's hand came to a stop over Jay's mouth, and the lightning ninja gained a glare that could strike fear into the lesser man, "When you didn't come out I tried your door, it was sorta open." He said, then winced a little, "I didn't go in or anything, but I could see you weren't in there."
The tone was careful and casual, and Cole almost felt bad that he was going to lie. Or at least, he wasn't going to be fully honest. Why lie if he didn't necessarily have to, anyway? "Sorry, kiddo. I should have told you what I was doing before I left."
Even though I've never even been here since last night.
Cole held up his bag in one hand, as physical proof that he had been somewhere, and he had bought something, but that still didn't seem to sway the calculating expression on Lloyd's face.
Though whatever tension there was, if any, was broken when Lloyd's face shifted into one of disgust and promptly pulled his hand away from a cackling Jay's mouth.
"Ew, gross! You licked my hand?" He questioned, his voice moving up in pitch at the end.
That just made Jay laugh harder.
Cole took that moment as the excuse he needed to leave the situation. Only when he was half way to his room did Jay's head poke out the lounge.
"You know you have paint in your hair?" He called, questioning.
Cole's hand quickly went up to the back of his head, to be met with the coarse feeling of dried paint that was in fact there, and had been missed during his effort to clean it all off earlier that morning. He cringed, but shot Jay a slight smile, "Got pranked by some kids walking back. I thought they'd missed." Cole grinned, then shrugged. "I'll be in my room, showering."
"Dude, too much info!"
"Wait until you realise what I do with my clothes when I shower."
Then it was Lloyd's turn to give a holler of disgust.
Cole laughed at their revulsion, and slipped into his room without much fanfare.
Twenty minutes later, and a fresh change of clothes, he was sitting in the center of his room with a towel wrapped around his damp hair and his morning purchases neatly arranged on the floor in front of him.
He knew what he wanted to do, he already had a rough design sketched out on a rogue piece of paper; his pencil was held between his teeth and he was staring at the paints.
The dawning realisation of what he was planning to do finally hit home. It wasn't as if he'd told anyone about his idea, it was currently just himself and his thoughts, and Cole was already second guessing himself.
"This is a stupid idea." He mumbled to himself, his voice quiet in the already present silence of his room. Usually he had music playing on his phone or something to the like, but now all he was doing was thinking. Thinking that what he was going to do- no, not what he was going to do, what he was debating on doing- and just realising how much he hadn't even taken into account.
Cole didn't dance for anyone. Sure, maybe he'd do a general jig if there was a good song on the radio, but who didn't? Yet dancing, proper dancing, he hadn't done it for years; and not for anyone but himself.
Why was he even contemplating going against the grain? Why now? What made that moment different, what made that time the right time to consider getting back into dancing? Was it the fact that he now saw these amazingly talented people every time he went to Nightowls? The way they just so easily stepped into the centre of attention, directly into everyone's line of sight and not get bothered by the many pairs of eyes staring back at them? That they could blank it all out in favour of just performing and doing what they loved?
Cole let out a heavy breath, before he lifted the scrap piece of paper with the mask sketch up in front of him. He had a good idea what he wanted to do, a design that would be pretty ironic, a personal victory in a way. One that only he would be aware of, really. He had everything he needed. It was all out in front of him.
Cole set the paper down, took hold of the towel in his hair and started rubbing the last of the dampness away. He stood, folding the towel over the chair at his desk before he left for training.
He needed to stave off exhaustion first, he needed to get his blood pumping and muscles warmed. He needed to wake himself up as much as he could after such an extensively long day, then he'd think logically about what he was going to do when he wasn't feeling as tired.
Maybe that night Cole had gone to sleep as soon as his head had hit the pillow, at the late time of seven in the afternoon. Maybe he even slept solidly through the night and woke up on time for the following days training, not a nightmare in sight.
Maybe his mask was already under construction, pencil markings already sketched out on the mask base, the idea already blooming into fruition.
Maybe he would dance.

Fan Story Forward
I have long struggled with mental illness my entire life and in 2012 during a very low period in my life I got a little parrot I named R2 even though we always called him Tooie. I had always wanted a bird, a living dinosaur, ever since I was very young and given my state my family thought it best to get me a companion parrot. He helped me get through many troubled times but in 2018 my beloved companion Parrot when he passed away suddenly July 12 at only six years old from a fungal infection. Just three months later my cat Keiko a beloved companion of 14 years was diagnosed with cancer in the jaw bone the week of Halloween. She was given only a week to live but hung on till February 26 of 2019. R2 loved watching TV with the family or when people played video games. My younger sister got me into watching Ninjago around late 2016 and I came to love it and so did he. Watching the show helped me feel better whenever times were low. I didn’t get into the Nexo Knights till after he passed but knowing him he would have loved it too. I had gotten into the Elder Scrolls series in 2012 during my very low period and it really helped me get by and both R2 and Keiko enjoyed hanging out watching as I played Elder Scrolls games. I’ve always been strongly creative and often write, draw or work digitally to create things and shortly after R2 passed I had started to come up with an idea involving three of the things we loved the most; a story involving the ninja and Nexo Knights. I only started writing however shortly after Keiko passed. I wrote this story as a sort of way to get over the grief of their loss. When I started I had a sense of where the story was going but no real end and many aspects were still blank. I was heavily inspired by the Elder Scrolls series particularly the third instalment Morrowind, the fourth instalment Oblivion and its Shivering Isles expansion plus the most recent instalment Elder Scrolls Online which my younger sister got me as a birthday gift in 2019. This inspiration is heavily noticed in environments, names and parts of the mythology in the story. While the story deals with the very dark subject matter of death and grief I tried to keep it light and keep in plenty of humor despite the dark subject matter. I also tried to keep it light enough in tone for young children which is very hard when dealing with such a dark subject. I originally wanted to keep it short but as I was writing I found that really was not going to work. The story became so complex that restricting it in size was not really wise. I knew from the start I was going to focus on two of the ninja similarly to how the show works. The two I chose are my two favorites', Zane and Cole (if you’re wondering Aaron and Clay are my two favourite knights). As I wrote I began to feel the story was best put into two parts. While the two are focused on through the whole story the focus is more prominent to Zane during the first half and Cole in the second. Part one is titled The Land of Ice and Ash while the second is titled The land of Stone and Shadow.
I have seen all the Nexo Knight seasons and Ninjago up to season 13 of the show so it will fit chronologically up till this point. It also takes aspects from Tomy Andersons story "Way of the Departed" since I have read those. Overall it is not heavily reliant on other seasons being focused on the story at hand though there are times when content from other seasons is implemented. Taking hint from what one of Ninjagos creators said, I believe it was Tommy, the knights and ninja are given a pretty hard time in the story but that helps propel the story and make it interesting. They are thrust into a strange world with strange people who have mixed views of them many hating them and beings who wish to destroy them at every turn. Overall I believe it is a fun, entertaining and heart warming story. It might even help you get over any grieving you might be having. It did that for me.
Originally when I started writing this story I had intended for the Knights of the Prong to be Legos Nexo Knights but did not know how to properly bring them in so simply came up with the Knights of the Prong as a stand in and this helped me get the story out. I always felt I could do more with the knights and as I have gotten close to the end I finally figured out how I was going to bring in the Nexo Knights and I think it offers more to the story The ninja are still the major focus of the story but the knights have their part and help flush out some parts and offer a different view of this place the two groups find themselves in. Like with the ninja the parts with the knights is not heavily reliant on the seasons of the Nexo Knights but does rely that you know who the Nexo Knights are and a bit of a back story on them.
For those who don't know about the Nexo Knights here is a bit of back story to help you know who they are:
The Nexo Knights come from a place called Knighton where they fight monsters created by a necromancer named Monstrux. They work with the great over 300 year old wizard Merlok who gives the knights magical aid to boost the knights powers against monsters. Due to an accident he became digitized. With help from two knights in training Ava a tech master and Robin a mechanic and inventing expert he was integrated into the knights moving fortress a vehicle called the Fortrex. The two are children and rarely get directly into a fight often working in the background alongside Merlok. Ava prefers her technology over magic and Robin aspires to be a full knight like his role model Clay. Clay Moorington is Merloks nephew even though for the longest time he did not know this. He wields a sword and is leader for the knights being the most serious and devoted to the knights code to protect others. During the 3rd and 4th season he got corrupted by Monstruxs magic which turned him to stone. He cured himself when he unlocked a power with magic he did not know he had. His mother was a wizard like her brother Merlok but got corrupted by monstruxs dark magic turning her evil when Clay was young. Macy Halbert is the daughter to Knightons rulers the king and queen however she prefers to be a knight over a princess often sneaking her weapon, a mace, and armor in to places when she is supposed to be doing princess duties. She is the second most serious about being a knight and cares little for the duties of a princess. Aaron Fox is the groups archer wielding a crossbow and is an ultimate adrenaline junky thrill seeker often using his knights shield as a hover board during a fight or for fun. While he often doesn't seem it he is serious about his duties as a knight. While Clay was corrupted he took over as leader for the knights taking his new role seriously. He is most often wearing headphones. Axl, who has no last name, is the muscle of the group wielding a war axe. He's kind, gentle, plays music and loves food. His younger sister has a crush on Robin which makes Robin uncomfortable. Lance Richmond is the spoiled  party son of a rich lord. He's super into his good looks and social media and has been known to pay others off to do or finish jobs for him. Despite this he does take his role as a knight seriously despite originally not wanting much to do with the life of a knight. He has a pet pig named Hamletta and a little sister who's training to be a knight like him. The knights have special shields which can harness Merloks magic for use in combat. Another prominent character who does make it into the story as well is Jestro the courts royal jester. While not a knight he trained alongside the others and is a deep friend of Clays. He is very insecure and anxious and tends to have the unfortunate luck of falling to evil influences, particularly Monstrux, despite his attempts to avoid them. Even when corrupted he’s hesitant to truly hurt the knights preferring to just mess with them.
I am a strong visually orientated person so as I went I created many concept arts to help me visualize environments, creatures, layouts and characters in the story. I will include these with the story so you can help visualize things as well. Many of these artworks you can find here: https://www.deviantart.com/nerdy-hyena/gallery/72478681/story-project
Overall I believe it is a fun, entertaining and heart warming story. It might even help you get over any grieving you might be having. It did that for me.
 Keiko and R2:
Tumblr media
As in all Elder Scrolls games there is a prophecy that foretells of heroes journey for the ninja their prophecy as foretold by the scrolls is:
“The scrolls foretold of this; His defeat was merely a delay; after the oni would fall the dragons would fail. When their wings are clipped and they have fallen to shadow the border between realms shall weaken and fall and darkness shall come. Realms once light and familiar shall be covered in shadows, shadows that are in plain view yet hidden consuming the world in darkness. There is only one this darkness fears; one of its own. But to gain this darkness and for the realms to be saved knights must fall to ash and shadow and dragons must enter the tower of first light and fall to its darkness in order for realms to see the light.”

@lesbiannya …. I did a thing. Wanted to draw all this but I lost the motivation so I wrote some drabble instead. hope you like it
Log Date
Log date: today is the fifth of xxxxxx year xxxxxx It’s been about two days since I was flung into this realm by Aspheera. I’ve tried getting the mech up and running again to no avail. I’ve needed to use the staff scroll in order to move it and myself to a more secure location. I will continue to work on it so I can more easily navigate in this difficult terrain. I’ve yet to see any locals but maybe I can get help from somewhere.
Log date: xxxxxxxxx It’s been about a week and I think I almost have everything up and running there could be some... complications though. I will make a separate video explaining everything. I hope all goes well.
Log date:???? It’s hard to tell time here. My internal clock seems to be have knocked out of commission from the constant cold. The job with the mech worked, but there are still several crucial parts that seem to have stayed in the other realm. The others should have been here by now and I’m... getting a little nervous. I’m not sure I can find a way out of this without help of some kind.
Log date: Time feels faster here, or maybe slower??? There has been a blizzard the last few weeks or so. And it’s been hard to tell day from night, but that may just be boredom setting in. It’s been about 3 and a half weeks since I got here but I can no longer keep track of the dates. when this blizzard dies down I will attempt to leave this area and find human help, or at the very least more advanced intelligence. wouldn’t the ninja have figured out what happens by now? Perhaps they thought I had been destroyed like we had originally assumed. It appears I am on my own for now.
In other news there does appear less monstrous life here. Unfortunately the owl that wandered in here somehow got its claws on the staff. It appeared to have awakened some electrical element in the bird when it was touched (perhaps all avians have some low electrical element like the chicken?) It almost took off with it, if I hadn’t turned around for another minute it would have been gone. The staff is very powerful and definitely dangerous an animal hands, much less human. I think I will have to hold on to it from now on, but I will wrap it in cloth so I don’t get overcome by it’s power
Log date: That was a bad idea. It’s been two days since the owl and I can now still feel the staff’s pulse of power, I think it may even have a mind of its own. It hates being wrapped up, trapped and muffled to the world. I certainly know how that feels. I think I will leave it unwrapped for now. Besides it is only dangerous in unreliable and nefarious hands.
The blizzard still rages on
Log date: it’s been about two months since I got here. Why haven’t the others figured it out by now? Surely Aspheera was captured? Surely she would have gloated about what she had done to me, to hurt Wu as much as she could? I admit that anyone other then I wouldn’t last long in a place like this without some sort of village or homestead. They have to know what’s happened by now right? Why wouldn’t they have come for me?
What if they’re too afraid to come get me? But the ninja have dealt with other much more dangerous situations before! What if...
What if they just don’t care?
Log date: it’s been two weeks since my last update. The storm is still going but at least it keeps other animals from trying to get in here and taking my staff. My friends have still not come.
... What if they were just using me this whole time
No that can’t be right. I love them. They’re my family...
That’s only because I’m the master of ice and a Nindroid. They probably keep me around just to help them. I’ve always been different. Even when I first met them they didn’t like me much
No that can’t be right. We spent time together other then missions.
Only because they don’t know what to do with me otherwise. What if it’s been like this the whole time? When I first ran off and found the bounty they called me weird and a freak.
but didn’t they apologize?
That was probably only because Wu told them to, and he probably only told them to because he felt bad, or maybe because he thought I might be the green ninja.
... sigh, I need some rest. I will continue an update tomorrow
Log date: My friends are not coming. I have studied the data. They always just needed something from me or used me in some way. Even with Chen, they didn’t come for me, they came to make sure no one else could use me. Even Pixal hated me so much she secretly made a body just to get away from me. I think... even my own father... he only made me to aid his loneliness. Everyone just wants me for what I can give them....
I’m on my own
Log date: I’ve started experimenting with my staff. It can create do amazing things! I accidentally shot at a squirrel trying to steal it and froze it solid, but it was still alive with a heartbeat. However, I believe time is also slowed inside the ice encasing it, I’ve essentially cryogenically frozen it. I unfroze it after and shooed it out but this is amazing.
Log date: The storm has let up and I am going to attempt to get help from the locals. Even if my family never loved me I still would rather be in Ninjago then here. But... what if the people here are the same? What if they hate things just because they are different? My camouflage appears to be on the fritz now as well so I can’t even attempt to look human. But I still need help.... sigh. I think I will just risk it. No one here could possibly hurt me anyways.
Log date: I’ve been wandering around for a while now, I’ve yet to see any other intelligent life. Either this land is more expansive then I thought or there is no one else here. I wonder what the other s are doing now? I know I shouldn’t, I know it will only make me miss and resent them more, but it’s hard. I bet they are having the time of their lives now that they don’t have to worry about me. I wonder if I ever did something to them to make them hate me, or if they just don’t like that I’m not human. Ha, look I’ve gone and made myself cry. I should try to think about other things but there’s not much to distract me here in this desolate world. I will record again when there are updates
Log date: Today I found a man. It seems there are humans here, and they hate things that are different here as well. I ran into a man named Vex and he told me his horrible tale. Just because he couldn’t do what everyone else could he was disgraced, shamed and eventually kicked out of his home and hated by his former family. I was made to protect those who cannot protect themselves, even if it was just out of loneliness. So I am going to protect other outcasts like Vex an I. He says there is a government of some sort nearby that refused to help, so I will attempt to convince them
Log date: things did not... go well. I’m normally level headed but the general and his men were being very unreasonable! They refused to help Vex and attempted to kick us out. I’m sick of being treated like an outsider. I’m sick of not having any real friends, loyal friends, who like me for who I am and not what I can do. My staff seemed to have sensed this. It made it so the generals men would understand me, LISTEN to me. They are now loyal friends. Friends I KNOW would never abandon me like my old ones did. Because they were already an army they did not put up much of a mental fight, but I sense I will not be able to make everyone here understand and appreciate outsiders. Still, this doesn’t feel good.... it doesn’t feel wrong right now but it doesn’t feel quite right either. I am worried the staff may be clouding my vision. I have made Vex my adviser, to tell me what to do when I worry I have been looking through a rose tinted glass. He knows this world; he will make good decisions when I can’t.
Log date: it’s been about a year since I first came here I have spoken to the former leader, now one of my highest ranking friends. He insists his position is general, but it feels strange to have an army of any kind. They are all now just friends who understand me and those they used to view as different and inferior.
All of my new friends also seem to have cryogenic age slowing, so even though I do not age, my new family will not either! I have heard hundreds of stories in Ninjago of those looking for a way to gain immortality, and now anyone who is my friend will be granted it! I’m so glad to see how happy everyone is because of this!
I have attempted to befriend other villages but they all run in fear from me and the others. Though I still didn’t expect anything else, it still hurts that they run away just because of what I’m not. Vex suggests that I stay in the palace so I don’t need to see them fear me while the others try to make them see reason. I think this is for the best. I have also found it harder to move much lately, my ice seems to generate around me much quicker, but I can still dispel it easily if action is needed.
Some villages are more easily befriended, but others with stronger willpower just want to see what they want to see. Vex suggest I freeze these people and let them think about it. They can still sense time pass but do not age, in this sense I am giving those misbehaving a Time Out. If the people here insist on behaving like children that is how they should be treated. And... I don’t know why but I like the idea of them paying for what they have done. They SHOULD suffer for the consequences of what they have done. In a few years I shall release them and they will decide join my family, my new army of friends
Log date: about a year and 3 months since I arrived Vex has informed me that there is no way for me to get back home, no way to spread my new family back to Ninjago. To make my old family be loyal to me. There used to be a flower that could make a form of travelers’ tea, but it has all since died out, not to mention it wouldn’t be strong enough anyways. I think I am stuck here, but maybe that’s ok.
Log date: three years since I appeared here It’s... been hard to think lately. My.... my mind feels clouded often, as if in between dreams. My staff tells me what is the next thing to do and Vex has taken over most of my other more boring jobs...... I feel like I’m just going though the motions.... but... it’s doesn’t feel like a bad thing.
In other news Vex has told me that more and more people are misbehaving. I have created a dragon that can create my cryogenic ice so I don’t need to leave to do it, I’ve been so exhausted lately. It’s nice to just sit and think about my new family....
I... I don’t think I will be updating for a few... years? I think I’m just... going to let go for a while...
Log date: a few..... decades???? Since I got here The ninja are here
I CANNOT BELIVE THEM. Vex says they are here to take my new realm away from me. To free me from this world and my new family.
How DARE they come back after all this time, they are not my friends any longer, and I am not hurting anyone in their precious Ninjago. No one in this realm is using me and I am finally happy, why did they have to come NOW? According to Vex almost all villages have been changed, my world is almost perfect. I can stop soon and enjoy the fruits of my labor But then they show their faces. They have holed up in one of the harder villages to overtake, due to their mountainous barrier advantage. I hate them I hate them I HATE THEM.
They abandoned me, and I will not hesitate if we meet face to face

Does anyone ever have this happen to them, where... You start writing a fanfic based off of another series, or whatever.
But this fanfic... You end up making a bunch of OCs for it. You take a character who admittedly doesn’t have too much of a personality in the original canon content, and expand on them- Expand on them wildly, or outright reimagine them completely. And you do this to multiple other obscure characters from that series that barely anybody remembers, not even the creators and writers.
You establish an intricate network of lore, world building, and in-universe systems. You have a deep, complex plot with plenty of character interaction and development, themes and narratives, and so forth, ALL within this one fanfic that was just meant to be a spin-off story, with enough room left so it could be hypothetically canon, or at least not contradict the current canon too much.
Eventually, what started off as this small, short little story you did for fun becomes its own thing. Its own world, with its own diverse cast of characters, factions, and so forth. There’s an intricate timeline of events, of increasing scale and relevance. One-off characters who were barely even named in the original series are suddenly reinvented into complex, fully three-dimensional people with their own backstories, motivations, and desires. They’re practically your own OCs at this point, if it weren’t for the names and appearance; And sometimes only one of the two!
You have your own fully-intricate storyline and premise laid out, with a beginning, middle, and conclusion. It’s all in place...
And then you remember this was supposed to be a one-off, spin-off fanfic that doesn’t directly contradict the canon of the series you were a fan of. At which point, seeing how other people make OCs, and considering the potential of total creative freedom...
...Why not just make it your own thing?
Sure, a few characters may have to be renamed, slightly redesigned, and so on and so forth. You’d probably have to change the lore a bit to not so blatantly mirror the original series you wrote about. But otherwise, this is basically your own original creation, right? So why not embrace the newfound independence for your WIP, let it be its own thing and establish its own name? And, since you’ve got a few other bare-bones WIPs, why not incorporate them in the new lore to fill out the gaps left by the original canon of the series you were a fan of?
That... That’s basically what’s happening with my Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon Trilogy.
For context; I like Lego Ninjago. Loved the theme growing up as a kid, and it was SUPER influential in making me the story-teller and artist I am today. It’s what initially inspired me to write, honestly, and it was by writing fanfics that I was able to complete a story of my own for the first time in my entire life! My first completed story was the first ‘installment’ in this trilogy, ~The Adventures of Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon~!
(Yeah, I was trying to be pretentious as a kid in adding those squiggles. Ordinarily I wouldn’t include them now, but they’re so nostalgic and something I’m so used to that I’ve decided to keep them in anyway. Sue me.)
And then my second completed story; The next installment of this trilogy, ~The Tales of Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon~! tToLMG is special to me in that it was supposed to be about the length of the first story... But then somewhere along the way, it became a little over 1,900 pages.
I don’t mean to brag, but at the same time... It IS something I’m proud of, and honestly, I’d say tToLMG is my Magnum Opus of sorts. It’s the story with the most time, character, emotion, planning, pain, and sweat and tears put into it. I’ve had my fingers ache typing that story, planning things out... I truly felt the thrill of writing with this one. I was triumphant when I finally finished it, and boy was I excited for ~The Chronicles of Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon~, the bigger and badder final installment, the conclusion to the prequel trilogy! And even THAT was nothing compared to the plans I had for hypothetical future waves and enemies for Ninjago, all tying back to previously-established lore and characters!
But then...
...WELL, things didn’t turn out so well. I guess I just lost my passion, my spark for writing, or something like that. I lost my flow and touch, I became frustrated, and I’ve since taken a multiple-year hiatus on it that’s lasted since late 2015. If we want to be technical, I did try rewriting tCoLMG from scratch, but I haven’t quite been satisfied with those attempts. I won’t deny that I came across my limits as a writer, and while I feel like I’ve improved, I’m still not quite ready to go back. I don’t think I’ll ever be, to be honest; The fact of the matter is, amidst me reimagining the story and characters, there’s just way too much to account for. PLUS, I already have other WIPs, like Bionicle: RaE.
But for now, I think it’s more or less official- The Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon trilogy, and my planned stories beyond those prequel fics, are now going to be their own independent series, separate from Ninjago. I still love Ninjago, don’t get me wrong, but clearly I have a different vision than Lego, and that’s perfectly fine. I mean, my version of Lloyd himself is a completely different character than the Lego version at this point, and HE’s the main character!
So, yeah- Just as a heads-up, for anyone who remembers or is curious about those last few art-pieces I posted, about T, Yelatem, and Arakchos... They were all originally part of a spin-off fanfic, but now they’re part of their own, separate, original series. I’m a little excited to how I’ll reimagine and restructure what I’ve planned, especially now that I feel like I’ve matured as a writer and person, and been exposed to other forms of media that have helped inspire me on a creative level!
As for what this new ‘series’ of mine will be called, I’m still figuring that out. I’ve got a few prototype names, such as Goldenchigo; What that means, I still don’t know, but it sounds cool and distinct so I like it! There’s also Golden Dream... or alternatively, Golden-Heart Dream.
One thing is certain; I’ll probably, finally get back to exploring the concept of this original story I made for myself. And, hey, with plans sort of changing now that the LMG Trilogy is its own thing in its own universe, maybe I can talk about the plans I had for tCoLMG, even reveal some characters I never got to post or write about properly! I’ll probably do that AFTER I finish transcribing tToLMG to Ao3, though, and THAT’s going to take a while; And I don’t intend to do that until quite a while later, whenever that is!

Oh, haven’t you heard?
It's the second week back to school, and Lloyd is finally settling back into the swing of things.  Wake up, check. Brush your teeth, check. Eat breakfast, leave the house, get off the bus, and walk to the first class.  Check, check, check, and check.
Lloyd pushes open the school's front doors and steps inside.  He gets a couple of good morning nods on his way to homeroom, but nothing more than a hello.  That's fine. Lloyd's never been the most popular person, and the friends he had in elementary have all but drifted away with his schedule monopolized by his ninja duties.
"Hey, Lloyd.  Lloyd!"
Well, scratch that.  "Hey, Nya," Lloyd says.  "How's it hanging?" He goes over to her corner.  Jay and Kai are already there, the red ninja napping at his own seat and the blue ninja looking over her shoulder.  Lloyd slides into the seat next to her. Both of them look up at him with identical grins. Lloyd is immediately on edge.
"Oh, you know, the use," Nya says.  It should be impossible, but her grin gets even wider.  "Speaking of which, have you checked YouTube recently?"
"Speaking of what?" Lloyd asks, before a phone is shoved in his face.  He blinks. The video is frozen on a screen with the word 'UNSOLVED' stamped across it in bright red letters.  Nya clicks play.
This week we will be investigating the alleged existence of a child of Lord Garmadon.
A strangled noise escapes Lloyd's throat.  "What? What- Nya!" He slaps her phone down against the table, ignoring her outraged yelp.  His face is dangerously red as he glances around the classroom. "What is this?"
Nya is too busy laughing at his redness to answer.  Jay answers for her. "It's really cool, dude!" he says, fiddling with the edge of his scarf like he's scared of Lloyd's reaction.  "There are these two guys, and they do theory videos on the internet."
"This is a pretty recent one," says one of the men on screen.  "Like, could-be-happening-right-now recent levels."
"I've gotta be honest with you," says the other.  "I was a little bit skeptical about this one at first, but the evidence really does line up."
"For Garmadon having a secret love child?"
Lloyd wants to melt into the floor.  He covers his eyes with his hands instead and sits back as far as he can.  "Nope.  Nope!  I do not need to be listening to this."
"Just you wait.  I'll have you convinced by the end."
"Oh, shush," Nya says.  "Stop being a baby."  She pries his hands away from his face.  Caged in by the desk on one side and Jay and Nya (and Kai) on the other, Lloyd resigns himself to his fate.
"Oh no, it's not that.  I want this one to be true."
Let's get started, then.  The year is 20XX.  One year after Garmadon launched his first attack against the city.  On September 30, between 9:15 and 9:45 PM, a dark figure enters an apartment building in Downtown Ninjago.  He takes the elevator to the second floor and goes down the hallway to apartment 202, where he's ushered in by Mrs. Lee, the tenant.  Witnesses describe this man as tall, around 6 foot 2 in height, with black hair and wearing a large coat. What's more interesting is what he was carrying.
"Mrs. Lee," says the second man, the one on the left.  "Who is she?"
"It's the name she went by," says the first.  "Judging by the way she disappears later without a trace, it isn't her real one.  The police weren't able to track her down."
"Damn.  I thought I was onto something there."
The voiceover continues. "One neighbor, Mrs. Nessa Everton, describes this shadowy-looking man entering the apartment across from her with, quote: "a bag from the local baby store tucked under one arm".  End quote."
Okay, but how do we know that was actually Garmadon.  Maybe it was... just some other tall, crispy man.
(Wheeze) Some other crispy man?
Well, I don't know, dude!
What other crispy men do you know?
I'm sure there's someone out there.
"Hey.  What are you guys watching?"  Kai appears over Lloyd's shoulder, hair even more impossibly messed up from his nap.  His eyes light up. "Wait, is this that theory video?"
Nya nods, her eyes never leaving the screen.  "Yeah, it is, now hush."
Kai makes a noise of elation.  Lloyd is one second away from slamming his head into his desk.  "You guys are the worst friends."
The first man laughs.  "Moving on," he says. "Six years later, in April 20XX, Garmadon once again entered the city.  He heads immediately to a park on the Eastside. Police trailed him there, only to find him shouting obscenities at the children who were playing soccer in the field.  Garmadon escaped capture once again, but we can fill in the details from the witnesses there.
"Oh my gosh," Lloyd says.  "I remember this one."
The coach of the game said, quote: He was an absolute lunatic.  The whole time he was screaming terrible, horrible things at the kids playing the game.  I wanted to call the police, but they showed up before I could." End quote.
A mother of one of the children there, Valerie E. Richards, had a different take on the incident.  She said that Garmadon wasn't harassing the children at random, but only specific ones from one team.  Quote: "If I didn't know better, I would have pegged him as one of those crazy soccer parents."
No, but can you imagine being seven years old.
(Wheeze)
And you're just doing your thing, whatever, and this big four-armed man starts screaming at you?
Your mom is just like, "cover your ears, Timmy, ignore that evil man."
"But Mom!  I think that's Lord Garmadon!"
The first man holds his pencil in the air.  "That would be pretty weird when you think about it."
"Did Garmadon ever say why he was there?"
His partner snorts.  "What, at like his supervillain press conference?"
"...right."
"Let's put together what we know.  Garmadon's first visit was for a baby, judging by the bag he carried with him.  That places the child between a newborn and three years old, making him anywhere between fourteen to seventeen now.  The gender of the baby is unknown, as are it's genetics and appearance."
With all this in mind, let's look at the theories.   Theory number one: Harumi Niseko is the secret child of Lord Garmadon.
"Harumi?" says Jay.  "Like the Mayor's daughter?"
"I think so.  Didn't she dress up as him for Halloween last year?"
Harumi was one of the children confirmed to be at the soccer game, and was also one of the few children that Garmadon didn't shout at.  In fact, witnesses claim the Lord of Darkness even went so far as to call her "my girl" and laughed when she kicked another kid in the shins.   Harumi herself has not denied these claims.  When interviewed in 20XX, she said, quote: "I think Lord Garmadon would make a pretty cool dad."  End quote.
"Just because she said he'd be a cool dad doesn't make him her dad."
"I know.  Evidence against this theory is the fact that, while adopted, both of Harumi's birth parents are listed on her birth certificate."
Which brings us to theory number two: that Lord Garmadon's secret son is actually dead but was recreated as a robot.
All eyes lock immediately onto Zane, who's just stepped into the room.  The poor ice ninja looks flummoxed at the sudden attention: Lloyd's face burning, the others sharing giant smiles.  "Is there something I missed?"
This theory speculates that Garmadon's child- a boy, in this one- died somehow as a child and was replaced by an android version of himself.  While it's true that humanoid android citizens exist now, this wasn't always the case. The first human-android models were created just under twenty years ago, lining up with the timeline for this theory.
"They think I'm a robot," Lloyd says dumbly.  "They think that somehow Garmadon replaced me as a child and no one, not even my mom, noticed?"  His voice rises to a shrill peak at the end and cracks. This only makes Nya laugh harder. "Shut up!" he grumbles, mortified.  "I'm leaving."
"No, wait- wait!" Nya says, gasping for air.  "You have to see the next one."
Begrudgingly, Lloyd remains in his seat.  It's not like he has a choice anyway, with the way Kai immediately drops his head to rest his chin on Lloyd's shoulder with too much pressure to be relaxing.
"Theory number three," says the host.  "The secret child of Lord Garmadon is actually the Green Ninja."
At this point, both of the hosts break into laughter.  Lloyd's stupid dumb idiot friends aren't much better, but at least they have the decency to hide their snickers behind their hands.
No, scratch that.  Kai is currently crying with laughter, his literal tears soaking the shoulder of Lloyd's hoodie.  Lloyd shoved him off and he tumbles to the floor.
"What, in like some kind of misguided revenge quest?" asks the second man.
"Exactly!  Why is it the Green Ninja who always goes after Garmadon, even when there's a better-fitted ninja for the occasion?  I'm telling you, it's personal."
"Oh no," Nya sing-songs.  "They're onto you!"
The second man shakes his head.  "No. No. You said this kid would have to be in between fourteen to seventeen.  That would mean our city is being protected by middle schoolers!"
"Yeah, that is a little scary to think about."  The first man sighs. "Oh well. I liked that one the best, personally."
"None of them sounded convincing to me, but I still think this one's true."
"You mean, that Garmadon has a kid?"
"Yeah.  No one goes to those soccer games unless they have a kid to force them there."
The other man laughs.  "In any case, the identity of Lord Garmadon's secret child, and whether or not such a child even exists to begin with, will for now remain unsolved."
The video ends.  Finally. Blessed, blessed, silence.  Lloyd slides down in his chair so his face is hidden in his hoodie and his back is more against the seat than the backing.  His stupid friends are still laughing at him.
"So, Lloyd," says Kai, with the self-preservation of a particularly dumb dog.  "What do you think?"
He gets only a groan and a rude gesture in response.  Kai laughs and ruffles his hair. "That's our Lloyd."
"Just wait until he sees the one about Garmadon's four arms," Cole says cheerily.

Allies Ch10
Garmadon chuckled as the Horns of Destruction blared loudly the sound able to be heard from miles and miles away, the golden beam of energy from the clock reaching across distances to create his Ultimate Weapon. Yes… Yes! This age of war was fastly coming to an end! He lifted his head once he heard the familiar sound of wing beats. Dragon wing beats. He grinned triumphantly once he saw five dragons, one of which was radiating with green energy similar to their scales. The dragons landed one by one in the courtyard, his generals sliding off of their backs as Garmadon headed directly for his son.
“Lloyd.” Garmadon says with palpable relief, seeing his son unharmed.
“Dad…” Lloyd smiled, accepting the hug his father offered him. “We got them dad.” He told his father, pulling back so he could reach for the weapons and Garmadon looked over them in awe.
It’s been millennia since he had last seen these weapons. He took them as Lloyd handed them over then chuckled.
“Finally. After thousands of years. The end of the war is in sight!” Garmadon yelled, holding up the four Golden Weapons and the gathering of Soldiers and Servants cheered. “You did well, my son.” He told Lloyd as they cheered around them still.
“I do what I can. For my Kingdom and for you.” Lloyd says with a smile, unable to hold back a grin as he hugged his father again.
He couldn’t wait for this all to be over at last.
_____
“I sense a shift in the balance.” Wu whispered, looking out at the balcony from his throne room. “The Knights have failed… Our greatest fear…” He says solemnly before he turned away to prepare for the last battle.
_____
“I can’t believe the Green Knight is nothing but Umbrian scum!” Kai growled as they raced their horses back to Fulgor to deliver news of their failure.
Luckily, the Forest of Tranquility was not very far away from the Castle.
“Race isn’t what matters here.” Zane says as he gripped his horse’s reins tightly, his face plate still off and tucked into his bag. “Garmadon must have convinced them that we were the bad guys. They must not know we’re actually fighting for the good of Ninjago.” He told the others.
“That’s gotta be it.” Jay says with a frown, eyes on the path ahead. “The Prophecies are never wrong!” He yelled, urging his horse to jump across a small but deep stream.
“But how do we even convince him before Garmadon gets to the Golden Peak?” Nya asked as she held on to Kai tight.
“That’s the hard part. We’ll have to figure something out and fast. He can level all of us on his own but this time no doubt he and the Generals will come with the rest of Garmadon’s army.” Cole says as they broke through the forest, dashing across the plain before them, the tip of the castle visible on the horizon.
“Let’s just hope we get there before they do.” Zane whispers, hoping they really could stop them.
_____
“Why are we here? Shouldn’t we be leaving for the Golden Peak?” Lloyd asked his father as he closed the double doors to the throne room behind them.
“We first have to wait for the Ultimate Weapon, the Garmatron, to arrive.” Garmadon told his son, guiding him to his throne and Lloyd frowned.
“The Ultimate Weapon? Why would we be using Dark Matter as a weapon? I thought you said you wanted this to be a fair war, to not stoop to their level?” Lloyd asked him, confused.
“I don’t intend on firing it.” Garmadon told his son, resting the golden weapons on his throne then walking behind it. “I prefer to use it as an intimidation factor.” He explained but Lloyd still looked unsure.
“After thousands of years, we’re finally arriving at the end of this war Lloyd. The people of Penumbra are starved of peace, of not fearing for their lives, of not fighting every day. I have to do whatever I can to make sure we succeed at doing so. I myself, am not comfortable with firing that cannon but I will if I must.” Garmadon says firmly and Lloyd looked up at his father then frowned but he understood.
They had to do what they must. And it wasn’t as if he was killing even more people by using Dark Matter. It was a means of safety, for those infected and for those who used it. Like Ultra Violet and the Earth Dragon. Lloyd looked at his hands at that. Yes. He could cure Dark Matter infection, so it was fine.
“There is also another reason why I brought you here, son.” Garmadon told him lightly, standing before the stained glass portrait of three people, one clearly being outcast.
Lloyd looked at his father curiously.
“It’s time for you to hear a story about the family the First Spinjitzu Master made for himself.” Garmadon says, his voice barely above a whisper as he kept his eyes on the portrait.
Thousands of years ago, when the war was young, there lived one who held the power to create an entire realm. He had no true name able to be said with Ninjagan tongue. Instead, he was known as the First Spinjitzu Master. And what was Spinjitzu you asked? An ancient fighting technique developed by the First Spinjitzu Master himself to be used as a means of fighting the Overlord and his Indestructible Stone Army only passed onto his sons as a means of protecting themselves. But this story is not about the fighting art. Rather, It was about the First Spinjitzu Master and his two very special sons. The eldest was Garmadon. He was a cautious yet peculiar child who would do whatever it took to not earn his father’s anger. It was a trait that made him seem cold, heartless even.
Then there was Wu. He was more adventurous than his brother and held a far bigger heart than he. Together, they would naturally get into all sorts of trouble but they were brothers who loved each other and who loved their father. They grew together, fought together, laughed together. There was no Garmadon without Wu and no Wu without Garmadon. The friends they had made of the children of servants in the castle knew and expected that of the princes. All was well throughout their childhood… But as both brothers began to mature, they began noticing some… Changes in Garmadon.
“Have your teeth always been that pointy?” Wu asked his older brother after noticing him yawn the canines he held much more visible and pointier.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Garmadon asked, reaching a hand inside his own mouth- only to yelp and pull his hand back.
His own tooth had cut his thumb…
That made Garmadon so much more aware of his own body. He was getting paler with each passing day. He could see it. He wore as much clothes as he could to hide it, withdrawing from his brother and friends out of fear.
“Did I do something to make my brother mad?” Wu asked, looking up at the back of his father.
“Why would you think so?” The First Spinjitzu Master asked as he turned to the blond that was his younger son.
“He moved into his own room and he hardly comes out to play or talk anymore…” Wu says with a pout, the preteen fiddling with one of his father’s blank scrolls.
“Hmm. It may be that Garmadon is growing older. He might want independence, to appear more mature. But I will talk with him, just in case.” He reassured, placing a comforting hand on his younger son’s shoulder.
“Really? Thank you father!” Wu grinned wide.
The First Spinjitzu Master did visit Garmadon’s room later that day… But it wasn’t to talk.
Garmadon stared at the closed door in confusion and trepidation as he pulled his hood closer. His father had walked in, taken one look at his very pale skin and had walked out with an expression on his face he’s never seen before. It made him… Worry...
The incident had Garmadon venturing outside again, to talk with his brother- but he had started to keep his distance- and so did their friends. He was now the one being isolated. He didn’t understand. He hated whenever they got quiet the second he walked in, hated that his own father refused to look at him anymore, hated that his brother looked fearful whenever he so much as glances at him. He didn’t understand at all. Was he becoming a monster? He missed his family. He missed his friends! Even the Elemental Masters stopped smiling at him and greeting him. No, they had started walking with their hands on their weapons, gripping them tighter still whenever he was nearby. Things finally boiled over on his 20th birthday he spent almost all of being ignored.
“I’ve had it!” Garmadon yelled in his father’s throne room after he had came for so little as a happy birthday, only to have them look away from him. “I’m sick and tired of being ignored!” He yelled, dark energies gathering unknowingly in his fists as his eyes glowed red, putting everyone on the alert.
“All I wanted was to have my family back but you two treat me like I’m some kind of monster waiting to happen!” He growled, fangs lengthening as his hair began to sway and blacken. “I don’t even know if I did something because neither of you won’t even so much as look at me! I don’t know what’s happening to me and it’s scary!” Garmadon’s voice broke as his skin started to darken, his claws lengthening as he began to grow taller.
“Talk to me! Yell at me! Do something other than pretending I don’t exist! Give me some kind of sign that I still mean something to this family!” He yelled, fire bubbling up in his eyes. “I just… I just…” The First Spinjitzu Master placed a protective hand before his youngest son who watched with wide fearful eyes as his brother became the monster his father warned him of.
“What did I do wrong?” He asked them quietly, flamed tears falling down his cheeks as he dug his nails into his palms- only to wince at the pain that flared in his hands.
He looked down at them- and felt his whole world grind to a halt. His… His hands… Why did they look like this? He looked up his dark arms, seeing white markings on them.
“If I had known you would turn out like this…” Garmadon looked to his father once he spoke over the silence filling the throne room. “A creature of darkness and destruction… An Oni, cannot take the throne…” The First Spinjitzu Master, his father says firmly and Garmadon’s eyes widened.
An Oni? He was… He looked down at his hands again, seeing them shaking from the revelation as his breathing picked up from his increasing panic.
“... Or be my son.” That had Garmadon’s head snapping upwards.
“... W… What?” He whispered breathlessly, not sure, not wanting to believe that he heard what he had.
“I left your kind behind once and for all in the First Realm. The Overlord already is a constant reminder of that place, even though he is Ninjago born. You will only strive to bring about nothing but destruction and chaos in this place I have made my home and I will not stand for it.” The First Spinjitzu Master spoke with cold, gold eyes, pulling a familiar crystal from his robe that had Garmadon’s eyes widening further. “You will return to where you came from.” He says, holding up the Realm Crystal, opening a portal on the ground.
Garmadon stared down at it, hearing the sound of dragons from it, feeling his blood running colder and colder. He… He…
“Fa… ther…” He whispered in his disbelief.
This couldn’t be happening. This must be a dream… This can’t be real… And yet, his palms still throbbed in pain from where he had stabbed his claws into them. This was no dream.
“You are no longer my son.” The First Spinjitzu Master says without a hint of emotion and that was like a physical blow at Garmadon.
He looked at his father, then at his brother with his downcast, slitted, golden eyes, looking just like their father… He… Garmadon, slouched. Was this really how he lost his family. All for… All because… Garmadon gritted his teeth, anger returning in an inferno. All because of genetics he never asked for! All for genes he got from him! A dark purple aura billowed around Garmadon and the First Spinjitzu Master gathered Golden Power in his other hand, prepared to strike him down if necessary.
“No! No!” Garmadon yelled, all out sneering at his father with bared fangs. “This isn’t fair! I never asked to be an Oni! I’m not like them! I deserve to stay just as much as Wu! We both got our blood from you, father! The blood that runs through my veins is a result of you!” He all but roared, the polished white marble floor cracking beneath his feet.
“That may be so and for that, I am sorry. But your faith is already decided. You cannot stay.” The First Spinjitzu Master says with narrowed eyes. “Leave on your own or I will be forced to make you. This realm already has enough darkness and destruction.” He warned, gold eyes glowing brighter and Garmadon sneered.
“Ninjago is the only home I’ve ever known! I won’t leave it just for your fragile sense of security!” He snapped at his father.
“... Then you leave me no choice.” The First Spinjitzu Master says quietly, taking a step forward.
“Father, please wait!” Wu says, running before his father. “Let me talk to him.” He pleaded and the First Spinjitzu Master looked him over before nodding once.
“Do not go near it.” He warned and Garmadon growled.
“I am not an animal or creature! I live and breathe and think as you do, father!” Garmadon spat the word with bitter resentment, his eyes fully opened to the true person his father was.
He was not the kind, peaceful man the Kingdom of Fulgor saw. No, he was no better than the Overlord himself! He was a hypocritical, fiendish man who would rather let others tackle his problems for him than facing them himself!
“Garmadon-”
“What? I no longer deserve the title of your brother? Is that it, Wu? Did the years we spent growing up together mean nothing for you to throw them away so quickly? Have the memories we’ve had together meant nothing to you?!” Garmadon yelled, cutting Wu off.
Wu pressed his lips together in a thin line as he looked at him.
“Say something!” Garmadon snapped at him.
“You’re an Oni bent on destruction! You always have been!” Wu snapped back. “You always did and say things I always questioned but they all made sense once father realised you were Oni! A monster! You’ve shown us your true colours now Garmadon! There’s no going back from this! It’s better you leave before you hurt someone!” He yelled and Garmadon took a step back, eyes wide at his brother- his own brother called him a monster.
He wondered for a moment, if things would have been better if he had kept his mouth shut and endured their ignorance. Garmadon straightened his back. No. He would not be a mat for them to only remember existed when they have mud on their feet.
“A monster, huh?” Garmadon says to his bro- to Wu, his voice eerily calm, lacking the panic, desperation and fury he had just moments ago.
He then walked forward, coming to a stop before the portal, glaring down at it from the bridge of his nose then at them.
“You want me gone? Fine.” He says and the First Spinjitzu Master vanished his Golden Power though he never took his narrowed eyes off of him. “But.” Garmadon spoke again and they tensed as he gathered his destructive powers in his palms, eyes overcasted with red as he floated off the ground.
“He’s unlocking his true potential!” The First Spinjitzu Master yelled, gathering his Golden Power.
“I’ll decide where I go!” Garmadon yelled and before his father could attack, a huge wave of destructive energy escaped him, destroying everything in its path, breaking apart the ceilings of the throne room and throwing both the First Spinjitzu Master and Wu back, the Realm Crystal shattering into fine dust like pieces as they were.
Garmadon landed on his feet after the sudden surge of power, looking down at his hands emitting smoky purple energy before he clenched them tight, ignoring the sting of pain. He then looked around at the chaos around him, spotting his brother as he pushed the rubble off of him with a golden wing, half transformed into a dragon. He hadn’t even known he could do so. He narrowed his eyes.
“I’ll show you a monster.” He promised him before he turned away to leave the palace, using his new found powers to throw aside those who stood in his way.
There was only one place he would be accepted now and it was a place he was looking forward to go to. Ninjago was being fought over by two sinister beings. It was doomed from the start. He hadn’t known that until today. But since his so called father and brother insisted on treating him like an Oni, a monster… He’ll be just that.
And he had been. The Overlord was more than happy to take him in under his wing, nurturing the darkness inside him and encouraging him to grow. Garmadon felt twisted pleasure as he struck down the First Spinjitzu Master’s soldiers before his brother’s eyes once news of his presence on the wrong side of the battlefield caught his ears. Just for him, just for them, he had become the destructive, heartless monster they made him out to be. There were days when the weight of what he had done, of what he had become weighed him down but those days were far in-between. That was until he met her. Misako. The Umbrian that had stolen his black heart. She made him want to change, made him want to do the right thing. He had even started planning on taking her and running away from this place, perhaps to a whole nother realm if he could, even more so when she was bearing his child… But then her betrayal had brought that part of him, ugly, bloodthirsty and hateful. He didn’t regret taking her life. But he did swear hers would be the last he took out of spite. He had a son who would depend on him now. And once the Overlord had left Penumbra to him, he knew he had a chance to fix this. To truly end this war and to give his son a place worthy of being called home. He may not be able to change the past but he could make a better future for everyone.
And his brother, who ruled Fulgor in their father’s leave could not be the one to do so. He was so faithful to the facade their father had shown him that he could not see that good intentions didn’t make a wrong action right. He didn’t know better, but Garmadon does and it is his duty, as Emperor and his older brother, to bring the peace Ninjago is starved of.
Lloyd… He didn’t know what to say. He never imagined that there was ever a time his father wasn’t the man he knew today. Never thought his father was outcasted from his own family for something like that. For having Oni blood, something he couldn’t control. If he was in his father’s position back then…. He didn’t know what he’d do. He couldn’t even imagine his father throwing him out. Not after a childhood filled with his father's utmost love. He looked up at his father, seeing calm, seeing wistfulness, seeing pain and regret all present on his face. Lloyd walked before his father then and he looked down at him, red eyes meeting red. He gave his father a look filled with several emotions, empathy, pain, anger… He pushed forward, hugging his father tight as he squeezed his eye shut, willing all the love he held for him to reach him. His father changed, that’s what really matters. He was still proud to call him father, regardless of his past.
Garmadon’s breath caught at his son’s tight embrace. He then hugged him back, giving a small sigh but that sigh held years of intense emotions, always flickering in the back of his mind like the flames of his tears. The burden of his past was lighter at least. His son, his reason to keep going down the right path and he had not rejected him because of his past wrongs. It gave him even more strength to keep fighting. For him.

I’m not sure I have a ‘current fandom’ since I live for, like, everything at once, but maybe technically Naruto would be it?
In that case (again, no offense to anyone - and removing the ‘I wish I could get behind’ part ‘cause I do not), NaruSasu. I just...don’t get it? At all? Maybe it’s the ‘what could have been’s or whatever, but when you just take the series at face value, that relationship is...really icky, at least to me, and that’s putting it lightly. It’s so damn unhealthy, especially for poor Naruto. They were never even friends, Sasuke always treated him like shit, and yet...?! *throws hands at half+ of OG series and virtually all of Shippuden* IDK, man. Something’s weird there, and I don’t like it. Can’t support that. Naruto deserves better, damn it. (*casually links her Naruto AU fic where he DOES get better (in more ways than one), TYVM*)
20. Any ships (in your current fandom) which you surprised yourself by liking?
Going with Naruto again, so. Hmm... I guess maybe Kankuro/Tenten? I didn’t even know that was a ship until a friend showed me a really good fic, and I was hooked! lol.
Another might be KakaObi, but only in AUs where Obito survives the cave in and gets out with Kakashi and Rin and recovers, continuing to be the sweetheart he is instead of the ass he turned out to be in canon. Because he, too, deserved better, damn it!
Another is one I might have made up, not sure (mostly in the context of my Naruto AU, NGL), lol: Karin/Shikamaru! It makes sense and there are lots of compelling reasons when you break it down! You know, 'cause Shikamaru would need (or probs at least prefer) someone on his smarts level, and she's a genius, too, just in a different way. And once she mellows out, Karin's really cool, and (in my AU) she grows to eventually adore Naruto (actually fights to defend/protect him in the Pein arc!), and anyone who loves Naruto is good in Shikamaru's book! lol. Plus, she can tell him when he has his genius brain twisted in too many directions, tell him he's being an idiot and help him figure things out in her different way. lol. IDK, I like it!
30. What inspires you to write?
I just...love writing?? I’ve wanted to be an author since I was 8-9 years old, started writing when I was 11, and I’ve been writing ever since! I’m 27 now! I’ve had a few dry spells, ofc, but I always end up coming back! I just feel like writing is in my blood (partly because, I like to joke, my last name is the title of one of Shakespeare’s plays, haha)!
Pretty much anything can inspire me to write, though. I’ll see a pretty flower and be like “OOH, that flower could feature perfectly in this chapter in this way!” and then write 1k about that! lol. Or I could read a review of one of my new chapters and end up thinking of something I’d never considered before and then write almost 3k on that alone (looking at you, middle section of Ch 6 of my Naruto AU, lol)!
Basically, if it sparks joy, I’m gonna write something! X’D
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
Nicest?? Hmm... I mean, I’ve had a lot of things said about my writing... Not sure I can really narrow it down? lol.
I guess the nicest things I’ve ever been told are when I make people cry (espec multiple times!) and actually feel the emotions the characters are feeling, that the characters and their development feel so real that it’s like they’re real people instead of fictional/they’re written so much better than the creator himself wrote them. (Been getting those a lot on my Naruto AU, actually. lol.)
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
I tend to prefer silence while I write, but sometimes, my house is loud and people keep breaking my concentration (house of 5, lots of animals, not the quietest, lol), I sometimes listen to music. I usually prefer instrumental, and then usually Naruto or Wolf’s Rain (sometimes Princess Tutu, too) instrumental tracks. The Naruto one I like best also has rain sounds mixed in, which is great because I love the sound of rain! Woo! (Here’s a link to that one if anyone else wants in on this! ;))
39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Emotions and getting into the nitty-gritty stuff therein. As an extremely visual, emotional writer, I’ve always been able to feel the emotions of the characters pretty much exactly how they’re feeling it in the moment and then put it on paper. I also make people cry a lot with my writing and get them to feel what the characters do, so that’s awesome! It’s always my goal to get my readers to feel things because then I feel like they’ve really connected with the story and characters I’ve written!
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Transitions are dicks. Sometimes I struggle ‘cause it’s been, like, two seconds or five hours, and I don’t know how to show that, lol. If I can, espec with the last one, I just fade to black. lol.
Also, sometimes I feel like I use the same sentence structure a lot, mostly the ‘..., but...’ format (at least lately). It’s really annoying, and I worry my readers notice and get annoyed/think I suck because of it. lol.
41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
“All the ways I say ‘I love you’” by Leonardo_Charles_BlueWood_21 (Fandom: Ninjago)
“Paradise Lost” by AnchoredTether (Fandom: Voltron Legendary Defender (Zootopia-esque dark AU))
“where my armor ends” by dalniente (Fandom: She-Ra Princesses of Power)
“of cats and curses” by faerialchemist (Fandom: She-Ra Princesses of Power x Fruits Basket crossover)
“Mischief is its Own Reward” by dalniente (Fandom: Megamind)
43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
I don’t really read Naruto fanfic too much anymore, so like...I guess, technically, another main fandom of mine right now is Fruits Basket, so: without a doubt, @kyosohmastan ! They’re my absolute favorite Fruits Basket fanfic author! Everyone’s so in character, the writing is so sweet and feelsy, steamy when it needs to be, and I really love the writing itself - it’s just so well done and beautiful and I die happily when they post a new fic or chapter? Ahhh! Plus, they’re just so nice and talented in so many ways, we have the same opinions on certain things (like Kakeru Manabe is Too Much(TM) for us, haha, no offense to those who like him! lol.), and I just really, really feel blessed to know and read their fics! Love them so! <3
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
I’m not sure which ship this is talking about? Hmm... But a ship I definitely think (have always thought) needs more attention is Kirito/Lisbeth from Sword Art Online! It’s so slept on, and that is a damn fucking shame because they’re so healthy and sweet and have so much more amazing potential than they’re given credit for (way freaking more than the actual canon couple, just sayin’, no offense to anyone who likes the pairing)! I have written a good few metas (and a fanfic) on the subject (some/most of which are on my Lisbeth RP blog, actually, lol)! If anyone wants to discuss/RP/anything involving this ship, please let me know! Would love it!
45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
I’m not sure I have a favorite fic. But one that I always come back to (all of her (mostly G1) My Little Pony fics, actually - first found them when I was, like, 12, and have kept rereading over and over through the years, haha) is A Mother in Her Eyes by LoveLikeElena on FFN. It takes place in the author’s own MLP universe, but I love said universe so much, and her takes on the characters are amazing and so sweet! I love her look at the serious subjects that follow the characters through her ongong MLP series! <3
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Fanfic readers have become really, really lazy. No one reviews anymore, maybe leave a kudos here and there if you’re lucky (I have a major love-hate (more hate) relationship with kudos...), and it’s so, so, so discouraging to us writers! I wish they knew how it felt, to be honest, espec the ones you know are reading, but just...don’t comment. It’s ridiculously disheartening to work so hard on something for days, weeks, even months or years on something, only to get basically nothing in return. It’s like posting into the void, and it sucks ass. It’s part of what made me quit writing for a good few years, actually, and I’m so sad to see that it’s still a thing. I comment on everything I read because I know how it feels and how much it hurt! It hurts like hell, especially because I remember how it used to be just 6-8 years ago when everyone commented! I desperately pray the fanfic/content consuming world fixes that really soon or we might lose some really amazing writers! Please, even an emoji or keyboard smash! I don’t care, I’ll take anything (and I know I’m not the only one)! <3
