As far as tips go, I unfortunately can't help much in the writer's/artist's block since I don't really get it.😬 If anything I just get bursts of laziness where I don't wanna pick up my laptop cause that's too much effort and so end up curled up in my nest scrolling through tiktok all day. But to remedy that, I just force myself to pick up my laptop or @lovesick-ritz will kindly hand it to me so I can get things done.

So here's the tips that I could think of:

Set a designated area or method for writing (ex. I only write on my laptop bc I've assigned it mentally as my preferred place to write)

Make it as easy as possible for you to write (ie. leave the writing tabs open. I personally never have word closed there's always at least my notes tab open but I usually have at least 3 word tabs don't ask me why I'm addicted to keeping tabs open)

Try to get rid of as many distractions as you can like unneeded social media (having a tumblr tab open is always my down fall cause I get distracted by asks)

Since I have adhd and autism complete silence honestly distracts me more than anything so I like to play this 10 hour thunder storm video on YouTube (this also helps with my tinnitus in case anyone else got that)

Another thing I've been told that help is just start writing little notes or just anything at all and maybe that'll spur you into what you want to be writing

Also some random tips if found useful when it comes to writing/drawing:

If you hyperfixate on writing and drawing for long periods of time like I do (like I'm talking about 8 hour sit down don't move sessions) get water and a couple snacks before you start and be sure to stretch at least once an hour

Remember to specifically do full hand stretches to avoid carpal tunnel and writer's/artist's arthritis

Try to get up and walk around as much as possible (if you can as someone with walking issues I know that isn't always easy or even possible)

One thing I like to do to rest my eyes and brain is after a few hours I'll go to Spotify and play a few songs (or in my case one song on repeat I've been particularly obsessed with the Epic sagas since they've come out and have been constant listening to Survive in the Cyclops saga) with your eyes closed. Staring at a screen all day can be harmful to your eyes and brain.

And for drawing with adhd, if you're working on a long piece it can get frustrating to work on one part for long periods of time so keep in mind that if you're start to feel bored or tired with the part that you're working on it's ok to move to a different part. (ie. you've been working on the hair for a while and start to feel understimulated to move to the face or even a completely different area so get that stimulation) It's not like a story where you gotta remember plot points and continuity the whole thing is right there so just work on whatever part catches your fancy. Or hell if you get bored just draw lil scribbles for a second in a corner somewhere until you feel up to going back to the piece.

Please keep in mind while reading these that I by no means have healthy habits. As I stated I hyperfixate on projects and will often neglect my human needs for extremely long periods on accident; however, I am lucky enough to have a very attentive partner that reminds me and encourages me to take care of myself and helps me when I can't. (Love you Ritz. Literally couldn't live without you~ mwah💜)

HOWEVER! Because of this I am extremely used to living with unhealthy habits and have an OBSENE amount of tips for dealing/living with them so if anyone wants some autism/adhd/depression/anxiety (all of which I have kinda extreme forms of) life tips lemme know and I'll write a whole essay for you. Tho again I will say these tips are not cures. These conditions are permanent so these tips would just be ways to make living with them a little easier. (Honestly I might just make that post even if no one asks for it on the off chance that helps even one person)

Ok I’ll bite, I’m curious:

Mephisto/Amaimon - why ship it? (All 3 q’s)

Rin/Shiemi — why don’t you ship it? (I hope I’m asking this right)

I think we will probably have similar reasons but it never hurts to ask!

Mefiama, why ship it:

1. Ok! So for the first, really my og aoex ship was amairin bc I'm a battle couple shipper first and foremost but mefiama was a close second and it's bc I'm a demon lover after everything lololol

Specifically, I've loved characters like mephisto and amaimon as long as I can remember, starting from my og fav yyh Yoko Kurama and Hiei (which in my head is a different ship than Hiei/Kurama). But, like that ship, I actually never really liked/like the ways fandom portrays them. Characters like Hiei and Amaimon both end up woobified and turned into stereotypical uke characters with the big sexy dom/seme mephisto/Kurama to seduce/play with them.

And to me that always pissed me off bc of how ooc it made them all out to be. I love Hiei and Amaimon bc they're little feral shitheads who have a massive independent streak to them and act/are totally inhuman. They both poke at each other and cause each other headaches and I live for it lololol

They're spicy as hell too and I love that in a ship. The second I saw Mephisto keeping Amaimon strung up on spears in the cuckoo prison that was it for me 😩👌🔥

2. The draw for these characters and the ship is that they're both inhuman creatures that only pretend at humanity, or in amaimons case, is forced to play nice by mephisto if he wants to be stomping around his territory.

What I really love about them, though, is that while Mephisto has the upper hand in the dynamic, Amaimon also knows his character and can see past his clown mask bullshit. He knows the demon Mephisto really is under all the sparkles and show boating. He's an observer and even when Mephisto is focusing on his goals and plots and shows, Amaimon is there on the sidelines keeping tabs and picking everything apart. I think Amaimon thinks Mephisto is interesting or has potentially interesting ideas. The thing about demons is they're constantly looking for something to keep them interested through their eternal existences and with Mephisto, Amaimon has a source of enrichment lol

I also like the fucked up premise of how Amaimon has an inherent trust in Mephisto that gets abused in canon. We saw him getting incredibly hurt by the shiemi reveal, as if Mephisto keeping that info from him meant Mephisto was treating him like one of his human pawns and not with respect as another demon king.

3. I'm not sure if there's an unpopular opinion I have for them, except that I tend to find most fandom treats them incredibly ooc and it makes it difficult for me to enjoy content of them from others. Mephisto as the over simplified seductive seme, doing typical melodramatic evil villain stuff and Amaimon being reduced to a uwu baby idiot who has never had sex despite being a who knows how old demon king. I've got a ton of bitching I've done over the years about it (and it's the same treatment Hiei always got back in the day so I'm used to the frustration) 😂

Rinshi, Don't Ship:

1. Man I feel really bad to say this but this is one of the most vanilla/boring ships in the fandom outside of bonrin. It's just so typical hot headed anime boy protag/girl next door love interest, even as much as they're both incredibly well developed characters, and as much as I love Rin.

It really just comes down to Rin being a, like, base ingredient for me as a ship. Like him being involved in a ship isn't on its own enough to make me enjoy/ship something. (Amaimon, on the other hand, immediately spices any ship up and I've even got a few rinamaishi fic aus out there lol). But I've never been interested in the sweet, hard-working character archetype. I can't help it, I'm into edgy bastard gremlin characters, the antagonists and anti heroes lololol (The exception to this in aoex is Yuri and that's bc she's got that little mischievous bad girl zing to her I love lololol). Shiemi just doesn't have that spice I need to really invest in a character.

2. What would have made me like it is just if Shiemi was a different character lololol like, she's just too sweet for me, like a marshmallow. Her in her string Independent woman era isn't really doing it for me either bc it feels like all her character development got cut out in that training arc she was just in. We missed a good opportunity to see her reconcile things with her grandma and her growth just to watch her toss an Amaimon copy and it feels like we got cheated out of her character arc.

If she just had that little spark that Yuri had it might work for me but I haven't seen it and until then it feels like every other typical anime main character/love interest ship, and it's just never been a dynamic I've never been into.

3. Positive things I have to say are that I think Kato has always done a phenomenal job making her characters feel realistic and not the usual anime shallow stereotypes. So when ppl tell me they enjoy the ship I'm like yeah, if ur into those kinds of characters and that ship dynamic, you've come to the right series to get a really well developed couple who feel fleshed out and who have had a developing relationship throughout the series. Totally understandable, just not for me.

The thing with Ryou Bakura

I am honestly weirded out how lighthearted some people play Ryou Bakura and then I read their "canon" tag. I mean AU Ryous are superb and fine and Ryou Bakura is s very handsome character, but in my head, he hasn't ever earned the tags cutesy, weak or boring.

Lets delve into a mind of one Ryou Bakura, who is still under the influence of the ring.

He has gotten the Millennium Ring during his childhood and bonded with it. We're not talking about his family circumstances or his life from before, whenever he lost his parents snd sister isn't really important to this.

The important thing is that Ryou Bakura has started out as a child, probably already losing time. First it's harmless minutes. Like maybe he was just taking a nap or he was not concentrating well. The less people are there to keep tabs on him, the more time he loses. He finds things that don't belong to him while other things completely go missing. He loses more time and sometimes, he doesn't remember how he got to where he is.

Most importantly, he is losing friends. He has most likely been bullied a lot and the little friends he has are falling into comas during gaming sessions. He uproots and travels on MULTIPLE TIMES so he can avoid getting lynched, because parents can be fucking vicious.

Nobody knows how long this has happened and then he comes to Domino. He has learnt to keep impeccable track of time and date, maybe he even has a diary for how much time he loses, just to keep an eye on it. So far, everything could be a row of weird coincidences. And then he finds out he is responsible for all of it. Or rather the thing in the Ring he wears is.

And that is the moment, where he stops being weirded out by it all and truly and directly emotionally charges himself. He breaks down and only gets up again to help his new friends not to be killed by whatever latched onto him.

Ryou, even after that, realizes he sometimes loses time, but he is relatively calm, since nothing bad has happened so far. The moment Duelist Kingdom starts no one knows how often Ryou is in control and how often Bakura is. He loses more and more time, sometimes IN THE MIDDLE OF A TALK and he knows it means trouble.

Second murder attempt and now he isn't just concerned, he is really afraid. Now he knows that the spirit cannot be banished and is sticking to him. Bakura keeps his cards close, maybe influences Ryou to not even realize that much what is going on... it's probably all a blur to him.

Then of course BC arc, where Ryou is CONSTANTLY close to dying. He doesn't know where he is, where are his injuries coming from, he transports from one location to the other without knowing how, his thoughts are constantly muddled, because Marik has his hands to the ellbows in there and Bakura shoves him to the back so he can control everything just like he wants to.

I personally think he doesn't remember the rest of BC at all thrown in and out of consciousness until he gets out of his head again, snatches the Ring and fucking books it...

We're at the point of the worst moments now, so get prepared. Ryou has been kept hostage in his own head for years, he has lost people to this, he has been taken over consciously and unconsciously, he has lost more time than he can even count anymore, his everything hurts, he is afraid that his brain doesn't even function anymore. The only reason because he is keeping it together is so he can keep his friends safe and show just a bit of bravado to the spirit, who knows how terrible he screws up this boy, but probably doesn't even care all too much, on the contrary.

I can very much see him pay 'his rent' to Ryou in unspeakable ways.

Imagine you leave the house in the morning to go to school. The next thing you know is that it is nighttime, you are in an area you barely know, you are soaked through, you wear completely different, DIRTY clothes, your pokets include items you have never seem before. Area's of your body are hurting. What day is it? What time? When have you eaten last? Have you hurt or killed anybody?!

I can see Bakura do this to him simply out of spite and Ryou never wanting to sleep again because he doesn't know where he will wake up. In what situations will he end up? There is no constant in Ryou's life anymore. He can't sleep well, ANYTHING could happen. He can't eat well, because he is in constant duress. He obsesses over things to forget his problems.

He is literally a constantly sleep deprived bundle of anxiety, who pretends to be socially capable, because if he gives in to the spirit, it's game over.

He keeps distance from his friends so he doesn't hurt them anymore and his friends don't seem to care sbout this a bit.

I want to really ask you, if you can see a sparkle of weakness or cuteness in a person, who is going through this EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

And the most mindbreaking thing for me is, how he even got through this alive. I wouldn't have, I can tell you that.

so i was watching some of my dashcam footage that i deliberately saved bc of Calgary Driver Shenanigans taking place in proximity to me and i straight up hate people who brake-check so much

pulling that shit is so dangerous, even at "low" speeds. and even if someone is riding your asshole hard, you don't brake-check them. as soon as you do a brake-check, you have now made yourself the more reckless driver in that equation.

you should never, ever do something to deliberately cause a collision when operating heavy machinery.

like, i cannot even fathom the kind of self-absorbed loser you have to be to play chicken like that in a way that could get someone fucking killed.

just... like... i keep thinking back to this accident that happened here one or two years ago, where a pick-up truck brake-checked a minivan on the highway in less than ideal driving conditions and the van spun out, and then rolled multiple times into the ditch, and one of the children in the van was ejected. the pick-up truck didn't even stop and as far as i'm aware was never even found. like that driver fucking killed a kid.... and for what? the driver of the van maybe pissed them off? was driving a bit too close? like please, if you are someone who brake-checks because you assume you'll be just fine if you get hit bc "lol i'm insured" you should always assume that the worse possible outcome could happen. when operating heavy machinery going more than 20mph around other people also operating heavy machinery going the same or higher speeds, you should always be thinking about the worst case scenario of pulling a dumbass move that affects multiple ppl.

like when you brake-check someone, you think this is a tussle that's just between you and that person, yeah? and you feel justified because maybe this person is driving too close, or they seem distracted, or maybe they pissed you off earlier, right? Oh, but I bet you looked all around, considered all of the variables, and determined that should an accident occur, it's only the two of you that's gonna have your day ruined, right? I'm sure you're cocky enough to think that. Like I'm positive (sarcastic) you've thought about all of these things before brake-checking:

the other vehicles in the road other than you and the person behind you

is there a big truck behind the person behind you that is going to have a fucking heart attack trying to stop?

the road conditions in general

what if the driver behind you doesn't have new tires? what if one of their tires blows out trying to brake and they spin out?

are their pedestrians you might be endangering if your stupid move causes an accident?

what if the other driver has kids in the car? passengers in general? your beef is with the driver, but causing an accident would be punishing their innocent passengers too

what if the accident you cause totals your car? are you able to be without a car?

what if the accident totals the other person's car? what if their livelihood depends on them having a car?

what if the other person doesn't have insurance? yeah, that's illegal, but it does you no good. if you think your insurance is going to pick up the tab in that case with no fight at all, you're naive as fuck. like unless you have complete car insurance and not just liability insurance, your insurance company will fucking fight any claim you make. even with complete car insurance, they fight claims. remember, car insurance companies are in the business of hoarding the money you pay them. they do not actually want to pay out.

what if the other driver has a dashcam and can definitively prove that you braked for no reason other than to endanger literally everyone else on the road?

like that's just some of the things to fucking consider re: brake-checking. and when the list of risks is that long while incomplete, what do you even gain by brake-checking?

brake-checking is petty, stupid, and fucking reckless. it can seriously injure people that aren't even involved in your beef, and it can even kill people. brake-checking is some of the most self-absorbed behaviour to have behind the wheel, and people who do it are fucking losers.

even if the other driver is following too close, or driving aggressively. you don't make an already dangerous situation even more dangerous oh my fucking god like why isn't that common fucking sense.

#the situation that prompted this rant was on friday i approached a light as it turned green so i didn't brake #i just kinda coasted up to the vehicle that had been stopped at the light and they were very slow to actually GO #anyway eventually they got... i guess close to the speed #but we were going down a steep hill that increased in speed by 20 clicks at the bottom #i was just kind of coasting behind this person who was going 10 UNDER and there were vehicles in the lane next to me so i couldn't go aroun #the guy does kind of a hard brake at the top of the hill #shortly after the light #and i easily slow to match him even though it was kinda annoying #like he was already going 50 in a 60 zone #why was he braking?????? #then he did another HARD brake close to the bottom #but next to a an exit and the person in front of them exited there #so i thought maybe that was the culprit for the brake-checking #but then past the exit the dude brakes SUPER HARD where there is no reason to brake at all because we should be doing the new speed limit #just.. I know some of the raw videos of jannik/tennis in general may or may not have good video resolution. But your end-result of your gifs are usually sharpened but not that grainy either. How do you usually adjust your gifs' adjustments when it comes to low quality videos? Bcs your gifset tends to be in 540px wide, so it makes me wonder as well how you retain/enhance the quality of the gifs. I hope I delivered my question well 😂

i remember u omg hiiii! now i may have gone a little overboard on details here under the cut but i suppose you’ll appreciate it anyway haha

disclaimer, for a lot of these settings, i can’t remember where i first found them but i had seen them used in gif tutorials when i was just learning how to make them. i’ve basically stuck with these ever since!

so join me as i go through the process of making this jannik gif (exclusive content, never before seen on my blog, etc etc):

okay so first of all, ofc as much as possible i try to get the best quality version even if the video itself is bad. like, if it’s on streaming i would screen record but otherwise i try to download the original file. it makes the end result much better imo

i generally go for 540px width bc i read somewhere that that’s the ideal size for tumblr gifs. if the cropped video is smaller than that or needs to be portrait oriented, i would usually just put two gifs side by side (like in this gifset) bc it’s better than trying to resize it bigger

but when a source video is around 720p, i can generally work with it! so here’s a sample that i trimmed from a fairly low quality jannik video from youtube. he's presumably on webcam here, which explains the bluriness

i loaded it in using video frames as layers. this pic shows it already cropped on my photoshop, with a frame delay set to 0.08 (my personal default, which i realized after everything was saved was still too fast for my liking but oh well i’m not redoing it):

as you can see on the bottom left corner, it still has a width slightly over 540px. so then i can proceed with the next step: resizing. what i do is go to the image tab and select image resizing, which brings up this window:

i change only the width to what i want (in this case 540px) and i use bicubic (smooth gradients) resampling

when that’s done, i convert to video timeline on the timeline window. then i select all the layers on the layers window and convert into smart object

now we can move on to sharpening! under the filter tab, i select sharpen and then smart sharpen. that gets this window to open up:

my presets have the amount at 500%, reduce noise at 0%, and remove gaussian blur. as for the radius, that depends on the video. by default i have it set to 0.5px, but i change it as needed. in this case, since it’s a close-up of jannik’s face, i feel comfortable using 0.8px (my highest setting). usually, if the video is shot from afar, i use something lower like 0.3px or 0.4px. i tend to find that oversharpening some really blurry videos makes them look worse, so i prefer to keep it looking a bit blurry if i really have to. thankfully, in our case right now jannik looks fine with high sharpening!

then i adjust the color and lighting as i wish. i would say that creating more contrast between the black and white levels of the gif helps it to appear sharper! though personally, i just like having more vibrant and contrast-y gifs so yeah

the final important thing happens when i save it. here are my settings in the save for web window:

i set max colors to 256, color reduction to selective, and dither to pattern. the last bit there is what i think is most important for keeping my gifs looking non-grainy! i looooove pattern dither, and i find that the other settings do make my gifs look more grainy so i never use them

and that’s it!! this is the process i use for all my gifs tbh, the main thing i play with for low quality ones is cropping and resizing + the smart sharpening radius

looking back on when wf was updating feels a bit like a fever dream for me bc 1) I wrote most of it during the winter quarter of my senior year of college. we'd gone back to in person for fall quarter after a full year of online bc covid, but then winter had a surge of covid cases again so almost all my classes went BACK online but I had one optional in person class once a week. so I had a lot of free time to write and would spend entire days in a campus coffee shop writing wf 2) sirentwt happened while I was writing wf. that was certainly a Time

Hmmm maybe borrowers sjnce they're also unkown, being a type of myth kinda, have like a unique taste or smell, and thats why Wilbur doesn't immediately kill Tommy, since he's something different?

Hmmmmmm if you wanna include noms maaayybbbbeee🙃 they can 'feed' from borrowers in their stomach/storage/whatever word ya wanna use, since their Teeth would literally impale them😂😬

clean water, at least. i'm trying to follow along some common vampire mythis and according to european folklore it's said that because water can typically be so clean and unlikely or carry disease or anything along the lines of that, it is considered "holy" and therefore vampires cannot cross paths with it. so the water in their house as purposefully been made muggy and even then it's rarely used. but of course, also like the food, once the vamps get more comfortable with tommy they'll buy it for him.

yess tommy has absolutely no idea why these idiot humans have a disturbingly low stock of food, disgusting water and a strangely high tolerance for pain! he doesn't learn what they are until much later, and for one reason i've been bugging to talk about: misinterpretation. tommy saw their fangs early on and gets very antsy around them and he always brings it up when he's riled up and scared, which leads them to believe that tommy is afraid of them turning him, while tommy is actually very much just afraid of them killing and eating him.

(update, picking this up out of my drafts bc i randomly remembered it existed! sorry for the wait :'D)

ohh i haven't thought of it that way before! my initial idea for the dynamic between tommy & wilbur was to have wil want to visit tommy just once to see what his deal is and hopefully find a way to get him out, because although he's the pretty much the nicest of the bunch (from an outside perspective), he's a vampire and has his territories just as the others do.

anyways what turns into a one-time-only thing develops slowly into a friendship type thing, where wilbur will show up and just let tommy talk to him, and he listens. anyways i like the odd scent/being idea so for the hell of it, another thing that drew wil to investigate tommy was the fact that he was far different than anything he'd ever seen before. essentially just a small human, which he'd frankly never heard of.

hmm i think i'm gonna see how long i can go without adding noms. going down my au list, i think at least every one has noms in them at somepoint. so let's have a nom-free au for now :]

Sparkling's bar always cleared out around this time of night, when he gave the last call for drinks. Cookies were tired, inebriated or full of food, happy to stumble their ways home in the early hours of morning. Maybe a few would stay in the bar for a few moments longer, straggling and pushing the time and finishing their drinks until Sparkling officially closed the building.

Vampire was frequently one of these stragglers, and quite often did he stay in the bar until closing, making conversation with Sparkling. Whatever mood he happened to be in, Sparkling was subject to, and whether the day had treated him kindly or not, Sparkling didn't mind hearing about it. Vampire always treated the bartender fairly, tipping generously and immediately paying off whatever tab he might have accumulated between the nights he was too drunk out of his mind to remember to pay.

Tonight, Vampire hadn't made much conversation, content to stare after Sparkling as he worked. The staring wasn't unusual for Vampire to do, but what was odd was his silence. Sparkling did not typically initiate conversation with customers unless they were silent, and he thought they needed a little push to get whatever thoughts were in their heads sorted out. Vampire was not this customer. Rather, Vampire was loud, opinionated, and Sparkling had become so adept at deciphering the increasingly slurred words of his friend that they could carry a conversation right up until closing. Sparkling never needed to initiate conversation with Vampire, because Vampire would do it for him.

Tonight was different.

Sparkling could feel Vampire's eyes on him throughout the evening, the heat of the other's gaze almost burning his hands as he mixed drinks for customers and cleaned glasses and took payment the same way he did every night. The bartender didn't think he'd ever seen Vampire so quiet before, and other than opening his mouth to give Sparkling his order, Vampire was silent.

It was odd. Vampire's gaze lingered on his hands, those lidded eyes trailing up to rest on his face, and yet he didn't say a word. Sparkling kept waiting for the other to speak, but as the night dragged on, nothing was said.

Last call for drinks came and went, and Sparkling lost himself in the usual last minute bustle of other cookies for long enough to forget the odd way Vampire had been acting. It was only after most of the crowd had cleared out that he recalled the weird behavior of his friend, and wondered.

He turned to Vampire again, his brow furrowed and arms crossed. The other man was laying on the surface of the bar now, his cheek squished against the black fabric of his sleeves. Those wine dark, violet eyes were still fixed on him, half lidded with either exhaustion or alcohol. Sparkling could never really tell.

"Alright," Sparkling finally said, initiating the conversation for the first time since Vampire had first waltzed his way through the doors of the bar. Vampire had always spoken first, but tonight, Sparkling would. "You've been silent all night. Something wrong?"

Vampire's eyes slid up to his, something Sparkling couldn't quite see flickering in the depths of wine dark purple. The other man didn't move for a moment, simply gazing at him, and Sparkling furrowed his brow deeper.

"Ugh, I can't do this," Vampire groaned, turning his face down into his arms and breaking his gaze. Sparkling paused, raising a brow, but the other man, as he usually was, wasn't done speaking. "Please put me out of my misery already and kiss me."

The world in all its peaceful existence ground to a halt, and Sparkling did too.

"I didn't give you that much to drink tonight, did I?" Sparkling found himself asking, though he knew that either way, Vampire's words were sincere. Sparkling had never met another cookie who could hold their alcohol the way Vampire could.

"I've been trying to figure out how to say something all night," Vampire continued to whine, the words muffled into the wood of the bar and the silk of his sleeves. Sparkling could barely breathe. "Never found a good opening, couldn't figure out how to say it, and I think I'm pretty smooth when I wanna be, but you're... something else, Sparkling. You make a man forget how to speak."

Sparkling stared, Vampire's words washing over him in waves of disbelief and warmth. That his friend had been silent all night, choking on the right words to say to him, it stole his breath away. He had his doubts, but something told him that Vampire was genuine. Something told him that these words weren't just the product of a lonely man having had too much to drink and wanting company for the night.

Vampire lifted his head a little, just enough to peek up at Sparkling with one dark purple eye that was far too vulnerable to be anything but sincere. It was enough for him.

Sparkling stepped closer, unfolding his arms from where they had been crossed across his chest. Vampire lifted his head, sitting up, and Sparkling reached over the bar to cup his cheeks. Gently, careful of the empty glasses nearby, he leaned over the bar as well, and pressed a soft kiss to Vampire's forehead.

"It's late," Sparkling said carefully, pulling back and meeting Vampire's hopeful gaze. "You're drunk, and I have to shut down the bar. But find me tomorrow before I open, when you're not drunk, and I'll kiss you properly. Okay?"

Looking positively starstruck, Vampire nodded once. Sparkling smiled, enjoying the soft feeling of Vampire's skin against his hands before they slipped away. Vampire gave a little sigh, a small, dopey smile on his face, and melted into the bar, watching Sparkling finish up for the night.

Tomorrow couldn't come soon enough.

okay firstly the idea that someone would not only read one of my little stories but read it more than once?? crazy actually!! insane!! so glad that it could be a part of ur morning n i would love to talk abt it!! hang on opening it in a new tab rn let me remember what it was i actually wrote huh lol

firstly with the flashback scenes in otiofad in general they had to serve two different purposes. they obviously needed to show the intense love and intimacy between the boys prior to The Incident, in order to juxtapose the post-prank scenes and serve as a marker for measuring the size of the rift in their relationship that its caused (which is why theres lots of kissing and cuddling and cloying monologues in the flashback scenes), but at the same time they had to demonstrate the little parts of their relationship which are a little bit fucked! a little bit unhealthy and obsessive. and they had to portray sirius as a person who has the capacity to do what he ends up doing. i didnt want to accidentally work against myself by over-idealizing their relationship to the point where it became difficult to believe sirius could be so thoughtless as to do what he does. like if ive just made you read fifteen hundred words of him being the Best Boyfriend Ever and then switch to him begging forgiveness for an attempted murder, his character becomes a little disjointed, and i really wanted it to feel like you're consistently reading the same people, just in very different circumstances. so the flashbacks very much needed to stress their intensity rather than their health as a couple.

im definitely roaming beyond the parameters of your question (but i promise it all circles back xx) but some of the sort of. i dont want to say red flag as much as cause for concern moments that i tried to include especially in the flashbacks include for instance: [Sirius says that sort of thing often, and with a confidence that Remus cannot ever fathom. Good god, how he would like to ask Sirius, them or me, that or me, and never fear the answer.] in the first scene, because i think remus' low self-esteem and his insecurity definitely affects their relationship + how he perceives it, which isn't anyone's fault as much as it is just them being young and imperfect like. theyre like sixteen here nobody had it together when they were sixteen right :-/ you have sirius utterly utterly obsessed with being in love with remus declaring that he doesnt want anything else from life and he's. sixteen years old. he's got no idea. like its that sort of rashness and impulsivity when he's speaking and acting which ends up fucking him over :-/

TO GET BACK to the bit you actually asked about (im so sorry for how long this is <3) the part where he closes the book on the spider. i mean honestly ur interpretation in the ask is pretty spot on!! its another one of the little stitches in the flashback scenes that sort of...slightly changes/sobers/brings the tone back down the reality a little, after theyve spent most of the scene cuddling and kissing etc. i'd already sort of tried (and i want to emphasise try at every point in this answer sfdghsh because i am not necessarily claiming that any of this was necessarily successful lol) to show sirius' capacity for being rash and obsessive, and the spider moment was just this tiny act of unnecessary, arguably cruel? violence that was meant to be jarring against the very over-sweet and gentle affection he's just shown remus. and although theyre acts of violence on such different scales, he gives just as much thought to sending snape to the willow as he does to squashing the spider. one of the things about sirius that i love soooo much is his relationship with violence and the way his anger translates into violence and cruelty (which remus mentions in the final scene when he says “You’ve got to stop being the kind of person who hurts people when they’re angry.”). its why hes SO fun to write angry because his anger is so distinctive lol. so the spider moment is just meant to serve as a little reminder of this random, mindless aggression that sirius carries around with him and that exists in tandem with all the affection we've seen him show remus, who starts in surprise when sirius slams the book shut. (i'll let u in on a super little fun (or not) fact that in my head when i was writing it i always drew a little parallel between the twitching insect leg thats left on the page and the similarly uncomfortable sensation of the eyelash that remus feels scratching his own eye immediately afterwards. thats not necessarily meant to come across n i expect it doesnt because i didnt develope the idea...at all...but in my head they were always a little linked teehee like even sirius' smallest acts of violence still have an effect on remus somehow xx)

but yeah!! apologies i didnt think this would be such a long explanation for a simple question fbhsdfhs im very embarrassed by this but like!! in short the spider was another little jarring moment designed to tether the version of sirius you get in the flashback to the version you get in the post-prank scenes, because ultimately he's the same guy with the same flaws both before and after the prank!! there was no reason for him to kill the spider like that and thats why hes so fucked. it was just his instinctive response to seeing it there.

i’ve always been of the idea it was genuinely a dawson’s creek situation. tim accidentally recreated his favorite show in a way lmao. i do think rini was probably suppose to be endgame at first and rina was suppose to be plot device but when they filmed rinas scenes he realized he has to write towards this (like he said). so he wrote it in a way in s1 where they never truly end their book. even before the flashback the last 2 episodes didn’t close their book at all ricky honestly just seemed more confused about his feelings towards her more than anything. and the flashback (that was confirmed not closure 🫂🫂) makes that even more obvious they didn’t want to close the book.

but anyways i think rini was prob endgame at first and then in the s2 writing room or after reading s1 opinions they realized they accidentally in s1 wrote a relationship that is destined to fail and went with it. the same thing happened with dawsey. they realized the better option was jacey and went with it. and i love when writers realize maybe the relationships or storylines they planned at first aren’t working so they change it (not doing that is how we get horrible endgame relationships especially in disney shows)

i think i remember tim saying he wanted them broken up before any of that irl drama even went down but even if some of it was bc of the drama then ok? it probably gave them the courage to full out end rini and go with rina.

i think that's a fairly valid opinion to hold if not also like. totally wrong. while it may have contributed to how certain scenes were written (lots of video calls between rini etc) the main outcome (rini breakup) i believe has always remained the same. the seeds have been laid since s1 !! (going to explain this dw)

okay but now: RINI ANALYSIS (BUT ESP NINI)

so. i said before that rini were never meant to be endgame past s1, and that this was set up in the pilot.

(cheryl blossom voice) let's unpack that, shall we?

in the pilot we encounter a nini who we are told (and shown!) is remarkably different from before. she's stepping out of her comfort zone and auditioning for the lead. now, why is this important?

in 101 nini tells ricky "the old me got her heart broken. and then she went away and she found herself" (or something along those lines lmao i'm too lazy to look it up). this is pretty pivotal bc this is when nini also found her voice. she steps out of her shell (ej says something similar). kourtney makes several remarks of the same nature!! we get the impression that while nini is clearly NOT over ricky, she's much better off without him (while he's spiralling without her).

so now we can follow that thread to 105. nini blows off the homecoming dance and goes to the karaoke bar with kourtney. kourtney signs her up to sing. nini is very adamant that she doesn't want to...and what happens next? they have a heart to heart, where kourtney says something VERY impactful (and i looked this one up bc it is IMPORTANT) - "what happened to the 7th grade nini who used to belt this song out in the back seat of my mum's minivan?" - "she grew up" - "nuh-uh. she met ricky." "what?" "ever since you discovered boys you've spent way too much time trying to see yourself through their eyes."

AND BOOM. THERE IT IS. THERE IT IS

now. WHY am i making such a big deal out of this ONE scene? it's a good kourtney/nini bonding moment, sure, but how does it let us know that rini was written to fail???

let us jump ahead to season 2. specifically, season 2, episode 6.

what happens in 206 that doesn't have anything to do with rina, you ask?

well, dear reader, in 206, nini writes a song. what's that song called?

it's called the rose song. and within the rose song there are a few choice lyrics:

"i am more than what i am to you" - directly inspired by what kourtney says to howie beforehand at slices (there's a lot of focus on nini's reaction to this here btw)

and

AND

"all my life i've seen myself through your eyes"

which okay. WOW. DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR ANYONE??????

it's a DIRECT callback to s1. it's a direct callback to all of the problems in the rini relationship that have ALWAYS BEEN THERE.

these seeds were always planted. all the signs were there!!! you just had to look for them <3

to get even deeper into it...rini are endgame in s1 bc they both regress back to the "safe" option. despite moving on from nini (during the period of time gina is actively in his life) ricky confesses his love for her (this is due to lots of things..gina leaving, his parents' divorce etc). nini is safe. he knows her!! ricky's arc in s1 is abt being vulnerable emotionally!! it's abt saying ily!! this had to happen with nini BC he'd known her as long as he'd known her and also bc she'd said it first!! he already knew how she felt !!

whereas nini tried to have it all. she wasn't over ricky but she couldn't be WITH ricky and also chase her dreams. they needed different things from one another, and while it seems like everything is tied up in a neat little bow at the end of s1, it's really just the tip of the iceberg for them.

to make a veryyyy long story short, i think the line "i never outgrew you" says it best. in the end, that's exactly what happened. nini had grown too much as a person to stay "trapped" in her relationship, and ricky had discovered that change wasn't as bad as he thought and learnt to stop relying so heavily on nini (mostly thanks to gina).

in s1, we see rini outgrow each other, even if they don't. in s2, they realise it for themselves. and that's how we know they were ALWAYS written to fail.

anyway, i digress. also i hope this was coherent lmao.

oof, yes. so many. but most i can’t remember. see, i’m a huge, huge dreamer. like i love sleeping and i can go for hooooooours at a time (my record is like,,,20 at a stretch. i’m v proud) and i always end up dreaming, even if it’s a quick power nap in class or a car lol

i think one i get very often is like,,,free falling? idk why but it always leaves me w a fun adrenaline rush & a weird leg spasm that always creeps others out lol. i also tend to lucid dream quite a bit (or atleast something resembling it?) so it’s a very choose-your-own-adventure sort of a thing.

also this isn’t…reacquiring exactly but i get very regular dreams about anything i’m currently obsessed with at the moment. and considering i get into (and out of) things v easily, it means i’m dreaming about weird shit like subway surfers or table tennis or a new cigarette quite often lol
