mitsuki's role in weekend lesson is so interesting, because... there's no challenge for him? why doesn't the mean casting director in neji want to challenge him?

(disclaimer that I'm on suzu's route and have only done kisa's route before this)

like, okay, so neji finds out that amber isn't participating in univeil's summer performance. his strategy would be something like a mix of fall and winter: aim to win, but also use the opportunity to train your new actors. since there isn't a chui to beat in this scenario, he and fumi can relax and risk a bit of the performance to train the new guys. alright, makes sense, cool cool.

so neji writes the characters and assigns the roles, right. the third years have some inner conflicts to overcome, and the first years have some growing to do. we have fumi playing the talented genius who quit competitive dancing, and kai who plays as someone that limits himself or is otherwise unambitious for the sake of supporting others. okay, same conflicts, let's see if the character development transfers from role to actor.

we have suzu playing louis who has pages and pages of monologue specifically, because suzu is bad at memorizing lines unless it's built around a conversation with another person (opposite of sou, who can memorize lines on his own). and also he has to do it while dancing, which he also needs to improve on. sou plays a jeanne who is cheerful, sociable, literally acts as the glue that binds everyone together through instigating the competition -- a departure from sou's own personality (plus sou, at this point I think, still wanted to play jack roles, though idk if neji knew this, or if it mattered to him). kisa plays a jack role for the first time, while also dancing and singing, and had to deal with neji sending her off to spy/steal ideas from other classes for her own improvement (in the guise of letting other classes try to poach her from quartz). neji always pushes a little harder on kisa, because he's always amazed that kisa will just do any of his own unreasonable demands (he says something to this effect if you let kisa choose neji to help her during one of the rehearsals).

so, okay, we've got a training plan down for everyone... except mitsuki. mitsuki doesn't get a challenge. shiroma is a side character, a prize to be won, very flat compared to even mukai (who has more depth to his personality even without the last minute improv). neji even throws in the random jazz lounge singer just so mitsuki can sing, which ends up looking more like a favor to mitsuki (since he only likes singing) and a "might as well use your talents somewhere" scenario.

(lmao shut up mitsuki, you got an easy role. sou has to dance both the great galleon and the random social dance kanna does in the background in andou's studio, and the dance she does with louis. the only characters who don't dance as much are mukai and employees A and B).

neji seems to place mitsuki in the same category as otori and himself: reliable in the roles they're good at, with no need to push for improvement compared to the others. but that's so interesting to me because like... why wouldn't he push mitsuki more? why wait until late into the year during the winter performance? and even then, initially, he wanted mitsuki as al jeanne more so to train kisa and fumi, rather than mitsuki himself. like, this is the scriptwriter who has no problems using other people's own inner conflicts as inspiration for his writing. neji can be a mean casting director when he wants to be. there's no reason why mitsuki is an exception.

I guess shiroma being a prize to be won and nothing more does mimic how mitsuki is valued for being a tresor and nothing more. but there is no space in the play for shiroma or mitsuki to do anything about that, unlike fumi and kai whose characters (andou and hasekura) both change throughout the play. mitsuki himself realizes very late into rehearsals (like, around a week before the performance) how he can connect with shiroma

and I mean, sure, that sounds compelling, but I don't think that's what neji intended nor do I think mitsuki is just talking about shiroma at this point, but hey this is the "theater is a metaphor" game sooooooo

anyway. I just think it's so odd that neji doesn't push mitsuki that much... but then I think about otori. I'd bet if otori wasn't so hilariously antagonistic to suzukisasou, he would also get the mean director neji treatment. not because of otori himself but more like. neji writes around actor chemistry and otori's rapport with the other actors is just less inspiring for drama and more inspiring for comedy LMAO (sorry otori). chui himself had a missing takihime bc he didn't really vibe with anyone on the stage.

and maybe that's it? mitsuki is also a person who distances himself from other people, and doesn't really put in the effort until later in the game. and before he even makes the effort for quartz (that neji sees), he really only made an effort for kisa. (I still maintain that mitsuki cares a lot about quartz even from the beginning, but whatever, I guess early game mitsuki that wasn't compelling enough for neji)

and I think it makes more sense why neji couldn't write anything for mitsuki. early game mitsuki doesn't have interesting relationships that neji could see. neji could write fumi and kai together and let their own internal conflicts be reflected in their relationship onstage. hasekura lets andou shine. mary jane wanted an equal (some form of it, a "friend" in the play) and that's why she created jacob. neji sees suzu and sou fighting in the hallway and in the next play writes jire and fugio fighting over chicchi. neji sees otori... being otori, and either writes him as funny side character A or a small-time antagonist to kisa.

which makes it extra hilarious why neji didn't understand oh rama havenna. neji wanted to experiment with fumi as a jack and kisa as a lead role. and mitsuki finally, coincidentally slots in as someone who could fill in the gaps left by fumi not being the al jeanne, and as someone who has a good relationship with kisa. and yet. mitsuki excels above and beyond during oh rama havenna, precisely because he makes rukiora his own character (as opposed to how neji initially wrote rukiora based on a younger version of himself; hence rukiora's relationship with domina) and rukiora's chemistry with chicchi reflects mitsuki's own relationship with kisa.

idk, I think all of this is just neat. kinda wish neji pushed mitsuki a little bit earlier, but also I think it's cute that he kept giving mitsuki easy roles for a while. he can push and prod the other actors, but he's making sure the princess doesn't have too much to complain about.

The man, the myth, the legend, who inspired some of my takes for Tobias' rapid rise to opulence:

"During the early stages of World War II, Pujol decided that he must make a contribution "for the good of humanity" by helping Britain, which was at the time Germany's only adversary. He approached the British Embassy in Madrid three different times, but they showed no interest in employing him as a spy. Therefore, he resolved to establish himself as a German agent before approaching the British again to offer his services as a double-agent.

Pujol created an identity as a fanatically pro-Nazi Spanish government official who could travel to London on official business; he also obtained a fake Spanish diplomatic passport by fooling a printer into thinking Pujol worked for the Spanish embassy in Lisbon. His instructions were to move to Britain and recruit a network of British agents. He moved instead to Lisbon; – using a tourist's guide to Britain, reference books and magazines from the Lisbon Public Library, and newsreel reports he saw in cinemas – created seemingly credible reports that appeared to come from London. He claimed to be travelling around Britain and submitted his travel expenses based on fares listed in a British railway guide.

During this time he created an extensive network of fictitious sub-agents living in different parts of Britain. Pujol wrote 315 letters, averaging 2,000 words, addressed to a post-office box in Lisbon supplied by the Germans. His fictitious spy network was so efficient and verbose that his German handlers were overwhelmed and made no further attempts to recruit any additional spies in the UK. The information supplied to German intelligence was a mixture of complete fiction, genuine information of little military value, and valuable military intelligence artificially delayed.

For radio communication, he needed the strongest hand encryption the Germans had. The Germans provided him with this system, which was in turn supplied to the codebreakers at Bletchley Park. His encrypted messages were to be received in Madrid, manually decrypted, and re-encrypted with an Enigma machine for retransmission to Berlin. Having both the original text and the Enigma-encoded intercept of it, the codebreakers had the best possible source material.

On occasion, he had to invent reasons why his agents had failed to report easily available information that the Germans would eventually know about. For example, he reported that his (fabricated) Liverpool agent had fallen ill just before a major fleet movement from that port, and so was unable to report the event. To support this story, the agent eventually "died" and an obituary was placed in the local newspaper as further evidence to convince the Germans. The Germans were also persuaded to pay a pension to the agent's (also fabricated) widow. The Germans paid Pujol US$340,000 over the course of the war to support his network of agents, which at one point totaled 27 fabricated characters."

She’s an ancient goddess of chaos, so she stays below in Tartarus and drinks, rolling her eyes at how her dumb family is still sore over Monotheists gaining monopoly on the season. She doesn’t care either way, thinks everyone is lame, and that her family should “get over it already, it’s been over 2000 years SNORE.”

Proteus was born waaaaay before these Holidays, so he just celebrates like any ancient Greek during the Winter Solstice would. He’s not into the sacrifice stuff, though. :/

Pickles spends the whole freakin’ season BLITZED out and drunk as fuck. He is one angry, depressed drummer. Holidays...trigger him.

Skwisgaar does what he always does, he doesn’t acknowledge any holiday unless he’s thrust into celebrating. IE: his mom visits or Toki pulls the whole band into it. Abigail goes home to Detroit and visits her huge fam and does the whole “This Christmas” scene. There’s always drama, but she endures and loves them all. She also gets to eat and cook and hang out and NOT WORK for once. 

Seth’s probably in jail.

Negaduck TRIES to stay out of jail, for Nega!Gos’s sake. But he’s spent a few Christmases in the klink. Actually? He enjoys it because the guards break the rules and give them aTON of booze, and he gets to stay in his cell, unbothered. Nega!Gosalyn LOVES Christmas so she goes full out with all the traditions, and makes her dad endure them all. Lovingly so.

Morgana does her own gothy-spin on the Holidays; but for a dramatic, moody witch, she does enjoy festivities so she goes all out...in her own Morgana way. Mistletoe...everywhere.

Gladstone’s busy with parties until New Years’ so he’s booked solid. Another big drinker, but for festive reasons. ALTHOUGH he does down more when he sees how happy Daisy and Donald are. Sometimes he gets the hell out of town and does the Vegas thing.

Gabby doesn’t acknowledge the Holidays, as she’s not really...a celebrator of any holiday. Given her background and upbringing, she just quietly goes to the same underground club/pub every year, gets sushi someplace, and then goes back to her safehouse. She probably goes home with someone so she’s not alone. Buuuuut sometimes she’s good to be alone. Ship-verse wise, she’s obviously with her S.O.

René avoids his cold, snotty family like the plague and cites: “I must train in X country, my regards.” But really? He just goes to the countryside on the other side of France and spends a quiet, indulgent time in his second home in the village. 

Francine LOSES HER FREAKIN’ MIND and decorates the house beyond normal levels, has the music cranked up, and is baking nonstop. She is SO excited because she gets Chinese New Year AND Christmas, so she has 2 1/2 solid months of holiday craziness. She is also busy with the church choir--not singing but volunteering. She air-horns her family up for events if they’re going on, and is a TOTAL misplaced Who-ville resident, lbr.

Holtzmann has a Jewish AND Christian background, so she regards celebrating both holidays as normal, and celebrates them both casually. She’s not really religious, so it’s all about the aesthetic and fun of it. 

Kim’s family does midnight Mass, then onto the celebrating. They do everything in a big way, so a family full of geniuses ( and genetically altered lab brats ) means that it always starts off normal and cozy--movies, food, and games...but it always ends in arguments and competition and endless “contests” in the backyard.

Nanami tries to do the whole “traditional perfect holiday” thing, but she and Touga loathe going home to the manor and dealing with....those people. So they both end up staying at Ohtori, and having their own gift exchange and perfect dinner. She IS a mondo shopper, so she buys everyone in the Student Council ( the Rose Seal ) and her little trio of sycophants expensive gifts. Not to be kind, but to show off.

Fujiko goes to Monte Carlo every Christmas. She has a lot of stolen goods to spend and enjoy at her own pace. She tries to kick back and relax, caper free? But if one pops up, she doesn’t care, she’ll skip the lavish Christmas dinner and symphony for a diamond heist any day.

Angela’s HEARD of Christmas/winter Holidays, but they have a whole different spin on all of Earth’s traditions on Mars. So everything we do on Earth, ( even if the residents of Mars are all human in origin ) is like...how modern man looks at the ancients. They do some of the traditions not knowing how they were REALLY done, and do it watered down and weirdly translated. She does do the Black Friday thing though, lbr.

Ponyhead, Darlene, Lily Asami, and Toph come from places/verses where our winter Holidays don’t exist. They may have other holiday things they do, but related to their worlds alone, and not quite like ours. Hard to explain. }

Love HC (sentiments, views, behaviors, etc)

Love as a concept.

Is fleeting.

To him love is, should be fickle. To him, there is no such thing as soulmates, love at first sight. Realistically speaking, love should take time, should come with obstacles, misunderstandings. To Michihiko, no love truly lasts, it should not have to.

What he does believe from it however, is that it can be mended, it can be re-discovered with someone else if the first times did not work out.

All of this line of thinking, coming from somebody like him, might come off as surprising but it certainly will not boost his ego. He knows that he's not wrong and thats all there is to it.

Years spent living among humans in the past, has taught him alot, alot more than one can anticipate, alot more than Ei could ever have taught.

Just because he behaves certain ways, does not make Michihiko clueless, having lived for so long, having endured so much in the beginning, to have faced the screpulous side of what Teyvat has to offer.

Then vs Now.

From the starting point of his existence, he was akin to a child; curious, gentler, slowly learning. And though this happiness became ruins, changed him over the years, he has never forgotten what the people of Tatarasuna's ever taught him, even the very concept of Love.

He loved these same people, as friends, as family...

But thought all of this has been robbed from him, it did not truly hinder Michihiko from seeking another chance, in spite of what he has done. Yet before love, all he was truly searching for, was a new home & now it has been found.

Now he can slowly re-experience that loss and underneath the surface, make the people of his past; proud.

He can finally mend that other loss of his; his so called 'heart'.

Expressing such sentiment/concept.

Wheter in the past or at current, as knowledgeable as he is, its how much he has changed in attitude, that tends to keep Michihiko from forming any relevant and lasting bonds. Of course, given what he throught, its only normal that he would act petty, keep people at arms lenght.

To him, behaving so distant, so disinterested, is a shield from the world, for both him or others. He would rather they don't associate with his intentions, his vendetta towards a certain Harbinger who does not even remember Michihiko at this point in time.

The way he expresses love, wheter in the lines of familial, platonic or romantic, is not alike of what one would call a Tsundere.

However, if he happens to not like you nor deem you tolerable, he will want nothing to do with you, plain simple.

If you're in the opposite, he will pay more attention to you, be a little more willing to engage in socializing and do his own things here & there, like giving your muse(s) something they, themselves, likes or overall, that would be of use to them.

Demeanor (towards expressing oneself/being reciprocated)

Beneath the surface of his bratty, aloof attitude, he just doesn't want to go throught everything again, even at the knowing cost that he will inevitably outlive far too many.

He's a bag of riddles for a reason and he finds it acting petty easier than being all lovey dovey.

In the concern of romantic relationships, while he might have never developed any, it does not equal to Michihiko being clueless on how to proceed, he just has his own ways to show it.
