But do you think that because of jk's songs like seven, snty and 3D which were like gp friendly jk's popularity in sk might have increased? See i know that the sk industry or gp does challenges that fit the tiktok kinda vibes and even jisoo's flower was done by many many ppl (it actually reached my country too where i didn't just see the kpop fans doing the trend but even some celebs who never does anything related kpop doing the challenge or using the song) and jk's all these three songs were are actually pretty popular in sk. alot of idols has mentioned him as their fav/role model and even has recommended other songs from his album too. isn't it like being popular and having strong fb a different case? So do you think jk is more popular?? I'm just talking about it based on how much ppl i have seen doing his challenge/mention his songs/mention him as their fav etc. If there's other criteria through which this get's calculated then I'm not well aware. I actually saw someone asking this question so i was wondering too.
Seven did well in SK because it did well all over the world. 3d and snty not so much, like crazy did better than both those songs in all major aspects. If a song's acclaim and chart placement lies on how many people joined it's challenges, then I luv it by Kamila cabello would be number 1 on the hot 100 right now. Some people just join these challenges for fun, doesn't mean they're listening to the song. Like we can all see the chart placements of both songs
Also this man has been everywhere since 2022, Hybe made sure of that and you're surprised he's being name dropped by every kpop idol. That's literally how idols move, they name drop songs or artists that are trending at that particular moment. If this year some other soloist that isn't jk gets the same coverage and success that jk got in 2023, they're going to ignore him and talk about that person. You think none of those idols listen to other BTS members especially jimin? Or have y'all deluded yourself into thinking jk's album was the only one these idols listened to and liked? I guarantee you that they're also tons of idols who listen to rapline and love their music.
But they're going to mention the one member that was being shoved down their throat because that's how they also get publicity for themselves. And it's one reason why unlike some pjms I will never hype these random name droppings from idols because I know how it goes. Next year they're going to focus on the next trending idol or group and not even acknowledge your fave. It's like how idols jump on TikTok trends, it's not because they like the song or the singer, it's for visibility.
Let me use le sserafim as an example (no shade to them), during their promotions last year they danced to flowers by Miley because it was popular when they probably don't even listen to it but what they got in return was publicity because Miley posted them on her Instagram. They mentioned Taylor repeatedly during the time when her name was all over the media for the release of her re-recordings, they've name-dropped Beyonce in a song they teased in Coachella which makes sense because she's been the most talked about person on social media this year and has one of the most popular songs of the year so far, now they've also been linked to Sabrina carpenter in Light of her new found chart success. That's how the industry works. Name dropping or joining challenges doesn't necessarily mean they're listening because those idols could drop their 2023 Spotify wrapped, and you probably wouldn't find any Jungkook song.
Jimin has spent a long time at the top of Spotify Korea and like crazy got almost 200k unique listeners on melon, just a 100k+ below seven, you think none of those listens came from idols? But why would they name drop him after all the shit that happened with his debut and also when bang and scooter made sure all jk's achievements stifled his?

biggest fan - pedri
prompt: the famous midfielder hits you up
warnings: grammar issues
credits to owners for all images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“pedri, who’s your top artist on this year’s spotify wrapped?” another day, another time for filming barca content. the content directors really knew the way to fans’ hearts.
laughing at the question. balde and gavi already knew his answer. smiling very suspiciously behind the camera.
“it’s been a tough year. i’ve explored many different genres of music. except, i always see myself going back to y/n’s music. something about her voice and the beats match very well.” gavi wanted to laugh at him so bad. he basically just professed his love right in front of the world. the media would enjoy this.
shutting the camera off, everyone applauded him.
“sometimes i wonder why you’re so scared of her. i mean, who wouldn’t want the pedri gonzalez.” gavi knew that pedri’s crush wasn’t gonna get better as he kept it hidden.
“one message couldn’t hurt. it’s a break or make.” balde joined into the conversation in the locker room.
to pedri, you had an unforgettable voice, face, or any type of charactistic. you were simply just unforgettable. and you knew it too, which explains why your song “unforgettable” was his number one song. he really considered reaching out.
when the video was posted, people were begging for the relationship to happen.
messages after messages were flooding your account. comments going crazy.
but there was a specific message that stood out to you. a message from an account that goes by pedri.
pedri
hey.
a simple text back wouldn’t hurt. would it?
y/n.l/n
hey!
pedri
i just wanna apologize about the interview. didn’t think it would blow up the way it did.
y/n.l/n
it’s perfectly fine! thank you so much for appreciating my work. :)
you should’ve seen his reaction to that text. he threw his phone and immediately started freaking out. the pressure was on.
pedri
i was just wondering, would you like to go out sometime?
y/n.l/n
i would love to
one fancy dinner date ended up being multiple dates. soon, it was official. articles after articles came out, but it didn’t matter.
your song dedicated to pedri went #1 on all platforms. fans noticed how your voice became stronger and the lyrics really felt heartfelt. he really brought the best out of you.
it was adorable how before you performed the song dedicated to him, he would peak his head out in any way or form to make sure it was known that he won your heart.
who knew a simple text could lead to the world’s biggest “it couple”. pedri’s confidence never went unknown. it was definitely a story to tell to your future kids.

Spotify is trying to get out of paying independent artists...
Next year they plan to change their rules to instate a 1000 stream/song/year cutoff under which songs will not make money at all. Worse, if the song doesn't reach 1000 within a month they will not pay EVER for that month even if it makes it to 1000 the next day.
These may not seem like huge amounts per artist but it adds up to millions of dollars and sets the precedent of not paying artists for their work. They will not stop here without a fight.
Shameless hypocrisy from me:
So why did I link a Spotify playlist? Those are my tracks with under 1000 plays this year* 🤣 Maybe you'll find something you like and we can keep the fractional cents flowing 💖💸💰
I have 21 000 streams this year from thousands of awesome people like you - I am not far in this journey but am well into the top 20% on the platform, so you can imagine how many artists are going to get nothing at all.
What you can do
If you want to help artists buying on Bandcamp is the most direct option. For streaming I can vouch for Tidal being a platform with better payout rates, better sound quality, and a smoother interface - not perfect but a lot closer. If you're willing, there's a petition in the above link I think.
If you are a musician and want to stand up, join UMAW. They are a new international union, the first representing artists and music workers in the new digital era. They already have impressive wins including getting Ticket master venues to stop taking merch cuts and improving pay at SXSW, a top US festival. They have sliding scale dues including potential exemptions for artists who can't yet afford 3 dollars a month (a thousand streams in Spotify terms). And we get to be in the same union 😉💖
Going forward I don't know if I will remove my stuff or what. I don't want my music unaccessible to my fans and that is the largest platform by far. I would love to hear what you think. I just know that I am privileged to be able to afford to make music and don't want to see this becoming even more closed off to the vital voices that haven't got funds or support. Between AI and streaming, one wonders if musicians will even exist in the future - let's keep the future full of dancing and merriment instead of this technofeudal nightmare the Daniel Eks of the world want to embrace.
*Noella might seem like a lie since it lists well over 1000 streams on my profile, this is the album version though and that's the single.

Last Book/Fic Finished: omg THE sydcarmy fic "Fundamentals for the Fun and the Mental" by @bioloyg
Last Book/Fic Abandoned: damn idk, maybe the academic books I have to read for my intro to islam class. those thangs are hefty im not reading more than what is assigned
Currently Reading: Islamic Feminism in Iran by Fereshteh Ahmadi. it's research for my final paper in the intro to islam class. very interesting and enlightening tbh
Last Thing Researched for Art/Writing/Hyperfixation: see above. my topic for the paper looks at how iranian muslim women have reconciled with their religion as it was being used against them pre and post-revolution. there's a lotttt of material out there on the topic. despite what we've been led to believe in western culture, my professor stresses that iran is actually the most secular country in the world. and when you look into the history you can clearly see why that is.
Favorite Online Fandom Memory: meeting my friends during the atla renaissance <3
Favorite Old Fandom You Wish Would Drag You Back In/Have A Resurgence: the atla fandom was/is so obnoxious but in its height in 2020 it was fun seeing a really rich meta appear on the dash for every 5 dumb opinions. everybody was making gifsets and art and fics and it was so much fun. now its slowed down a bit and the only parts of fandom still kind of active are the shippers lol
Favorite Thing You Enjoy That Never Had an Active or Big "Fandom" but You Wish It Did: more like a fandom within a fandom- im glad that the "zukaang" ship stayed pretty niche within the atla fandom. like it wasn't so tiny but we stayed in our own spaces (and rlly won the idgaf war when it came to the hate) and it was just full of mature wonderful people writing THE best meta and fics and just genuinely enjoying the show, which was rare in the fandom (ironically enough)
Tempting Project You're Trying to Rein In/Don't Have Time For: so many. i have so many ideas and fics that cross my mind whenever i watch something new but i never have time for them :(. i started a spiderverse miles x miles42 fic and never got to finish it :(((. maybe after finals 🤞

I’ll always share my Spotify wrapped because I think it’s neat as hell to see what everyone listened to this year. I didn’t get L to the OG to the top like I wanted, my commitment to the bit waned unfortunately.
2023 my music listening habits were very different than they normally are, I spent less time keeping up with new releases and wayyy more time exploring artists and genres that I previously hadn’t really listened to.
That being said there were still a few projects from this year that I really loved that I figured I’d take the time to write a little about now.
5. Actual Life 3 Piano EP (January 1-September 9,2022)- Fred again..
Really inspiring EP for me, it’s a quiet reflective audio journal featuring some ambient sounds, some really cool samples, and some pretty piano playing throughout it’s a lot more lowkey than his album last year but I really enjoy that.
Favorite track: Nathan (Varner Road)
4. Quaranta by Danny Brown.
While I really enjoyed Danny’s work with JPEGMafia this year, I ultimately prefer this solo release from him this year. It’s a follow up to his album XXX, on that album Danny was a 30 year old struggling to make it as a rapper, now a decade later he’s obtained the success he once wanted so badly and he finds himself reflecting on where he was and where he is now. While financially Danny is better off than he was a decade ago, mentally he is still hurting and struggling as much as he was then. It’s a raw and vulnerable album with some excellent production throughout and some of the best verses of Danny’s career in my opinion.
Favorite Track: Down Wit It
3. Census Designated by Jane Remover
On Census Designated Jane Remover moves away from the hyperpop and digicore influences of her last album and leans more into rock and shoegaze, although there a certainly still a ton of fun little glitchy and stuttering effects throughout. If you like Ethel Cain I’d highly recommend this album.
Favorite Track: Cage Girl/ Camgirl
2. Wallsocket by underscores
A really wonderful pop rock concept album filled to the brim with infectious hooks, creative sampling and a lot of fun vocal manipulation throughout. There are no skips on this thing, every song is bursting with this really great creative energy. There are only few songs that I fell in love with this year more than You don’t know who I am.
Favorite track: You don’t know who I am.
1. 10,000 gecs by 100 gecs
The second I hit play on this album and I heard the THX logo sound followed by gunshots and the sick main riff on Dumbest Girl Alive, I knew this was going to be my favorite album of the year.
Here the gecs expand on their sound from the first album, refining it and fine tuning it, while still maintaining the playful energy that made the first album so exciting. Every song on the album has at least one or two lines that have permanently burrowed their way into my brain like the best ear worms do.
This album really flexes the duos skills at genre blending as they take from nu-metal, rap, pop, rock and ska and fuse them all into this wild album. It’s an unpredictable and fun listen one second they’ll be singing about struggling to make it in Hollywood, and little later you’ll get a song about having a tooth removed.
There’s a playful rebelliousness to all of their songs that I just can’t get enough of.
Favorite track: Dumbest Girl Alive (duh it’s my most listened to song this year) but I also wanna shoutout Most Wanted Person in The United States, that song fucking rules.
What’d you like this year?

So at the end of every year, I always find it interesting to see how my music taste has changed throughout the year. Which is why I LOVE Spotify Wrapped day and seeing what my top 5 songs of the year were. And this year, I was actually kinda surprised.
Tumblr media
Now, it’s not wrong, I absolutely played these songs a bunch, but I wouldn’t say they were my FAVORITE songs this year. They just came out very early in the year and were able to add up plays before anything else. So that got me thinking, what were my FAVORITE songs this year? Not the ones that I played the most, but what had the most impact, whether it just be an earworm or the meaning of the song. So why not write and list them out! I like analyzing my thoughts too much.
I’ll keep my choices to just one song per artist. It'll be however many songs I wanna add. Details don’t really matter, it’s my list, I add whatever I want. Expect a VERY long posts and a lot of links to songs if you want to check them out. (DO IT. I swear I have good music taste.)
1) First off, I gotta start with DO BETTER by Ab-Soul off of his latest album HERBERT. Ab-Soul has been in my top 5 rappers probably for the past decade and my second favorite of TDE other than Kendrick. HERBERT was his most personal album to date, and nothing shows that better than DO BETTER. A lot of his album is inspired by the events that happened in his life during the pandemic including one of his best friends dying and his own failed suicide attempt and his subsequent trip to rehab. You can easily hear all the pain and survivor's guilt he has, but also the determination to turn around and come out stronger. The instrumentation is both extremely haunting and calming. I always come out of this feeling inspired to deal with my own issues. The line "I gotta do better, I gotta do better, I guided you better. There's nothing they can do that I can't do better. Better yet, there's nothing I can do that I can't do better. Yeah, I'm better," never stops giving me chills.
youtube
2) I've been slowly getting into EDM these past couple years. And one big part of my learning of the genre is Skrillex, who came back and surprise dropped TWO albums in TWO days. And both were really good albums that showed multiple different styles of EDM. Whether you prefer more dark and grungy beats like the songs in Quest For Fire, or if you rather have more bright, poppy sounds in Don't Get Too Close, there will be something for you in these two albums. The song that most stood out to me though was a good mix of the two with the opener for Quest For Fire, Leave Me Like This. The standout part of this song is the earworm of a vocal hook, which gives a wonderful strong melodic element to the song. Combined with the synths creates a strong hypnotic pre-drop section for the song. Of course the drop contains the more grungy parts of the song, especially the growly bass the introduces the drop of the song. But my favorite part of this section tis the repeated, pitched up "left, right, left" chant helps keep the rhythmic center in the song as the drums get more complex in the drop. Even if you don't enjoy EDM music, I'd listen to Skrillex's new releases because you get such a different arrangement of sounds and really see his versatility.
youtube
3) Anyone who knows me knows that I have been horribly addicted to hyperpop these past three years and it is definitely unhealthy to my ear drums. And 100 gecs has absolutely been in my top 3 hyperpop artists since they came out. So when they announced they were releasing an album this year, it was instantly one of my most anticipated albums of this year. And they absolutely delivered with 10000 Gecs. They continue to create inventive music with the same brashness, humor, and insanity that drew me to them in the first place. And I'd say this album is just slightly less abrasive to new fans than their past album. Nothing anywhere near as crazy as Money Machine, but all of the tracks contain the unique brand of energy and mix of hip-hop, rock, and pop, with and added element of ska on some songs like I Got My Tooth Removed and Frog On The Floor. But my favorite has to go to the opener of this album, Dumbest Girl Alive. Right away with the first 15 seconds, you can tell they're back on their bullshit with the opening guitar riff and gunshot impacts. And as soon as the drums come in, you get their wonderful blown out sound where I can't help but turn up my speakers to the max. But the obvious standout of this track is Laura Les's performance of this track. A super catchy melody, an earworm of a recurring phrase, "I'm the dumbest girl alive," and multiple quotable lines create a great verse. Plus the bouncy bass continuing with it creates such a wonderful short track that makes me just want to keep repeating it over and over again.
youtube
4) The more music I listen to, the more I am drawn to the weird, more eclectic styles of music. Especially with hip-hop, with so much getting made, only the really unique stuff sticks out to me now. Luckily that's the exact type of music Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA make and together they made one of the best hip-hop albums of this year with Scaring The Hoes. And this music will, in fact, scare the hoes.
JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown are already well known in the Abstract Hip-hop genre, each being strongly characterized by their unique self-production and unique delivery respectively. Both of them have their own unique strength and coming together, they create a landscape of sounds and tracks that you will not hear on any other hip-hop album this year. As has become pretty evident, I'm a sucker for intros. And this album is no different because the intro, Lean Beef Patty, is easily my favorite from this album and was also in my top 5 songs played this year. Even though this song is just 2 minutes, it contains my favorite things about both artists. A sped up sample almost drowned out by the rest of the production, a signature of JPEGMAFIA production. Brash, bold lyrics from JPEGMAFIA such as "Fuck y'all niggas, I feel like Papa John," and "Fuck Elon Musk, eight dollars too much," which honestly just became the slogan for the year. Finally Danny Brown's energy and delivery give an exciting final verse to this song. And wonderful way to start one of the best albums of the year.
youtube
5) A group that came out of nowhere for me was grouptherapy. grouptherapy. is a music group consisting of Jadagrace, TJOnline, and SWIM. Their new album "i was mature for my age, but i was still a child" popped up randomly in my Spotify and I was surprised by the quality of there sounds, their charisma, and their chemistry. Each artist clearly has their own style that fits well with the other two and they all trade off so well in each of their tracks, which is essential to a good group dynamic.
Their new album has multiple standouts that show all of the groups' talents such as American Psycho and FUNKFEST. But my personal favorite off of this album is "club song :(" where Jadagrace takes the front stage in a mainly acoustic guitar song. Her voice is allowed to take a front seat and it creates a striking and kinda haunting melody. TJOnline joins in the latter half of the song to add some well added harmony to the song. This was the song that I kept coming back to from this project. Check this group out, cause they should have much more buzz than they have now.

6) Every once in a while, you'll be at a concert and you'll see an opening act that completely surprises you. And then afterwards, you slowly see them gaining more and more clout as they slowly grow to superstardom. That happened to me with Jordan Ward. I had the opportunity to see him perform and a JID x Smino concert as the opener and he absolutely impressed with his energy and singing.
I forgot about him until he released the deluxe version of him latest album FORWARD. I remembered his name and decided to listen finally and he has everything to be one of the next RnB stars. Since then, his album is one a bunch of top albums of the year lists and has even had a NPR tiny desk concert.
My favorite of his so far is MUSTARD. The guitar arpeggiating the chords, the slightly pitched up vocals, and live played drums on this track just work in the best way. 6lack also joins and adds a great second verse. Listen to him, he's gonna be up next soon and you'll want to see his rise.
youtube
7) Finally, there's the artist of the year for me, Underscores. I've known of them for a while, but only REALLY got into their music this year. I devoured their last two albums and have been playing them on repeat all year until she announced her new album Wallsocket. It was easily my most anticipated album this year and luckily it exceeded all expectations.
Underscores is a very hard artist to describe because she was one of the hyperpop classic artists but has evolved her sound beyond that. There is still some of that overblown hip-hop, dance pop sound around her music, but there is also more of what I'd say is folk rock in there now with this album. Either way, she still manages to produces some of the most unique soundscapes that I've heard this year.
All three of her singles that she released were in completely different areas. The rock focused "Cops and Robbers", the creepy, slow, and uncomfortable "You don't even know who I am", or the dance EDM focused "Locals (Girls like us)" had be so confused about what the sound of the album would be like. All it did was build up the hype and so I HAD to watch the livestream of the album on release day. And that is easily on of my favorite memories of the year, freaking out with the chat as we uncovered how good of an album this is.
While every song on this project is wonderful, the song the immediately attached itself to my brain was "Uncanny long arms". The song structure here is just hypnotizing to me. The quiet opening of the song going into the first chorus and the first "I can touch my toes" belt is forever into my mind. And the vocal stuttering and breakdown afterwards let me know this song was special immediately but it only gets better.
Jane Remover has a standout second verse on this song and her voice sounds angelic and just floats over the guitar. She had an amazing year in her own career and this song is a standout moment. Her turn on the chorus is even better with added instrumentation and the pure emotion you hear in her voice.
But easily the favorite part of this track to me is the outro, which to long underscores fans will be no surprise. The song being stripped down before jumping right into a bombastic, more rock version of "Kinko's field trip" brought me right back to 2021 and I damn near screamed hearing this on the live stream. Easily my favorite music moment and favorite song of this year. Listen to underscores everyone, you won't regret it.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
I don't have anywhere near as much to say about these songs, but I still want to bring them up because they're fun and were big parts of this year for me.
Stasis - leastfavorite!: Discovered her this year and she is another hyperpop artist that I think deserves more recognition. She released her first EP late last year so listen to it!
nothing2say - Jay Kim: Another artist I discovered this year but released an EP last year. Not really hyperpop, more midwest emo vibes with a little bit of brakence vibes with him. But another album that I'm excited to see grow after listening to them this year.
youtube
Damage Gets Done - Hozier: I shouldn't have to say this on this website, but Hozier is a pretty good artist. I listened to the new album he dropped this year and this duet was a standout to me and just couldn't get out of my head.
youtube
Maybe Man - AJR: As we now know, I'm a sucker for openers, and damn, is AJR good at them. They always make them fit the themes and sounds of the albums so well. "Maybe Man" is no exception. Probably would've made it onto the favorites list is it came out sooner.
youtube
Alright that's it. This post is long enough. Please listen to them! I swear they're good! And I promised not to always talk about music this long! (It's still gonna happen sometimes though. I'm sorry, I can't stop myself.) Also please share your favorite songs! I love seeing people's music tastes and what really connects with them!

hullo!
Ive just listened to the latest ep of the pod, it was wonderful!! Halla's point on how parasocialiaty is defined by what it lacks, to be very insightful , ive always had a slight issue with how parasocial relationships r discussed in scholarship and the rapidly changing nature of media does not help.
when u guys were talking about how different artists develop different styles of parasocial relationships with their fans, like how the nature of a harries relationship with harry styles is in a way different from the parasocial relationship we have with matty or the relationships swifties have with taylor. And how artist actively foster these relationships so in a way they are a two-way street (please lmk if I'm misunderstanding ur points, cause I'm listening to the pod at work so I may miss some key info),
Anyway, this reminded me of a convo I had with a prof of mine, we were talking about the narrative and meta-narratives that artists (specifically singer-songwriters) present to the public (cause all famous people r presenting a narrative that's y they're famous)
I think this narrative/ meta-narrative really affects the establishment and nature of the artist/ audience parasocial relationship. I think that for an artist to be "stan-able" they must present a meta-narrative, so there is,, something MORE for the fans to know about them. For example, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay have huge fanbases and can play arenas but don't really have stans because they only present a narrative (i.e. the music/ album). Whereas artists like Harry styles and most kpop groups actively foster a parasocial relationship by presenting a narrative (i.e. the music/ album) then a meta-narrative, for harry this would be his vague allusions to queerness, for kpop groups this would be the slow reveal of their real personalities (cause a lot of kpop groups r given explicit "roles" by their management like "the cool one" "the childish one" "the leader" etc). This meta-narrative allows for dedicated fans to "know" the artist better than fan who "just" listen to the songs. Personally, i think matty presents a third kind of "post-meta- narrative" so his narrative is the album then his meta-narrative is the onstage/in-interview performance art then his post-meta-narrative is his reflection on the performance art. I think the main difference between artists who have a meta-narrative and artists who have a post-meta-narrative is that we don't know what harry styles the person thinks about "harry styles" the performance, whereas id argue that we know what matty the person thinks about "matty healy" the performance.
I dont have a super cohesive point to end on but I do think that matty presenting a post-meta-narrative gets lost in translation when the 1975 gets exposed to wider audiences (like the swiftes) who take the red-pilled, toxic masculinity, meta-narrative Matty presents, as the end all be all.
anyways, i LOVE the pod, i hope yall keep it up and have fun doing it!!!
first off OMG HI IM JUST SEEING THIS SORRY IF YOU SENT IT A WHILE BACK! It’s Halla btw lmao. seconddddd, okay that’s a very good point you’re making about Stan-able celebrities, so to speak. Because, as we were talking, in the back of my head, I was thinking about my second favorite artist, Father John Misty, whose music is lowkey similar to the 1975 in a lot of ways. And it’s definitely shaped me as a person a lot. He’s been my top artist on Spotify wrapped stats for years. HOWEVERRR, I don’t have the same relationship to him/ his art as Matty and the 1975. I think it’s precisely because of the meta-narrative that you’re pointing to!
perhaps that’s part of what Matty has in mind when he says “feeling personally addressed.” Even little things like referencing their own earlier discography or tongue-in-cheek jokes about lyrics. “You can’t figure out a heart you were lyin’” “it’s just like I’ve lost my head.” Not to mention Notes tracks that have samples of ABIIOR in the back/ signaling the end of Music For Cars era etc. all of those things feel like building a narrative that the fan can participate in, and is likely to make you more immersed in the music and the artist. So yeah 100% I think this is a really great thought and if you don’t mind us referencing it on the next ep (it’s gonna be a part 2 of this conversation but more centered around consumerism in fan culture) I’d love to bring it up with Zoe!

woah they made spotify wrapped but for twitch
they gave me streamer stats so here's what they said
i was in the top 10% of signalis streamers which was pretty cool!!! :D i really enjoyed that game so i'm glad :D
Tumblr media
the people love petting bruno, having a little dance and my despair.
also shout out to all these people who are so wonderful and lovely thank you thank you for being there :) <3 it feels a bit odd to apply the term fan because lets be honest, this is just a list of people i'm friends with online lmao 😭 hope you're all doing well!! sorry that twitch has automatically enrolled you in my fan club
Tumblr media
also they gave me a viewer version which is fun!!
i was in the top 10% of ultrakill watchers lmao i like having twitch on as background noise and lurking in chat to boost people's numbers so the numbers are maybe a little bit inflated compared to how much i actually watched 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look!!! it's a bunch of my friends!!! (and also jerma) i'm really proud of them all and you should go watch them so that they can be in your top 5 next year :) they're all funny and wonderful i promise you'll enjoy their streams :D
go watch smaller streamers on twitch!! there's a bunch of really talented people on that site and i promise if you check out a handful of people with less than 20 viewers you're guaranteed to find some lovely, welcoming communities full of really amazing people :) including mine you should all follow me and then follow my friends and then commission all the artists in our circles :) give them money :)
also next stream soon!!! hopefully tomorrow (tuesday), the plan is to either play Tacoma or Red Tape, but also i have a cold atm so the plan is up in the air atm 😷 whatever and whenever it ends up happening, i'll be streaming on twitch.tv/fakeshibe at some point :)

Hello and yes, yes, we know the drill El WooWoo but ALSO happy Spotify Wrapped. Glee is my top artist. 8 songs of my top 10 are from the Heartstopper soundtrack. This makes sense. Anyway, thank you @martsonmars and @facewithoutheart for the tags. And a happy Spotify Wrapped to you.
I am having a blast with my COC fic There’s nothing ironic about show choir, especially since I just established that yes, there is a rivalry between choirs, but no, no one takes it as seriously as Simon and Baz and I am just obsessed with them not realising it since they’re too caught up in being obsessed with each other.
“What are you doing?”
I look up from my notebook.
Simon’s standing in the doorway.
“I live here, remember?” I deadpan.
“Yes, but you’re usually not… here.”
It’s true. We’ve been living here for over seven years, but we both avoid this place like the plague. It’s very hard to miss that we share the room, though. My wall is filled with violet banners, flags, crests and pennants with the Vitis logo. Simon’s wall is filled with the scarlet Rutaceae variants.
(Agatha hates it and wonders why we also have to take the rivalry outside of choir.) (Does she not see that there is no ‘outside of choir’?)
Ha, ha, ha, scarlet and violet where did I get that from?
It’s also Advent time TOMORROW 🤯🤯🤯. Time caught up with me cause I have nothing prepared yet apart from the two snippets that I’ve shared before. But I will be fine. I am prioritising my Klaine Secret Santa fic over the Advent one anyway, but I do want to start tomorrow. (I still need a goddamn title!)
I also have some... sentimental musings. I shall put them under the cut with the tags. It’s not a snippet, just some thots.
Basically I was going through my archive on this blog to find the other WIP Wednesday Hospital posts since I wanted to link them in last week’s post (please clap) and I saw that I first started doing these SSS/WW tags in October 2021, when Marta first tagged me. I remember being so nervous about it, and now it has become a nice habit that I look out for on a two-weekly basis.
And I just... I was just overwhelmed by it in a way? I did so much in 2021/2022 that I am proud of. There were also fics I didn’t like as much, but where the two-weekly support was so great. And that’s just what I like about fandom, be it Glee or CO. Joining spaces like the Lima Bean or the CO Discord or the Second Breakfast club was great. Having platforms like those above and the Advent and COC and what not come up with great challenges is wonderful. I’m glad that both my current main fandoms at the moment (get rekt Check, Please!) (actually no, I do want to write more Zimbits) are so active, especially Glee since that show ended 7 slutty, slutty years ago.
This is also why I am so eager to jump in on every challenge, because I want to show my appreciation for the people who take the time to organise Klaine fic challenges, even though it has led to what we now call my girlboss situation and I did tell myself yesterday that I am probably not going to do the Second Wave of the Klaine 3-2-1 Reverse Bang because it is getting too much otherwise.
And maybe I will not be able to keep up. It’s a miracle I haven’t skipped a single post ever since that first Sunday tag (I count the “nothing to show ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” ones as a post) and maybe I will fall into a dip but even then people come and go with these challenges and it is nice to know there is always a potentional audience. I know from my experience that I have also been super stoked when someone posts a new SSS/WW after a break.
But yeah those are just some of my thoughts. TL;DR: I love fandom. And now, the weather, and by the weather I mean tags: @quizasvivamos @crissmastrees-and-candyklaines @coffeegleek @esperantoauthor @otherworldsivelivedin @caramelcoffeeaddict @sillyunicorn @bazzybelle @dragoneggos @raenestee @tectonicduck @nightimedreamersworld @urban-sith @thnxforknowingme @captain-aralias @you-remind-me-of-the-babe @takitalks @justgleekout @cerriddwenluna @wellbelesbian @tea-brigade @cutestkilla @ivelovedhimthroughworse @moodandmist @artsyunderstudy @whogaveyoupermission @bookish-bogwitch @confused-bi-queer @aroace-genderfluid-sheep @ionlydrinkhotwater @1908jmd @special-bc-ur-part-of-it @larkral

Dancing in the Dark
Written By: Bruce Springsteen
Artist: Bruce Springsteen
Released: 1984
The first single off of Springsteen’s seminal album Born In The U.S.A., this track was written two years after most of the other songs on the album. Producer Jon Landau thought the new album lacked a guaranteed hit and pushed Springsteen to draft one more song. The two men got into a brief altercation, after which Bruce wrote “Dancing in the Dark” about his ‘difficulty writing a hit single and his frustration trying to write songs that will please people’. Its music video contains an early appearance by actress Courtney Cox. It also helped introduce Springsteen to a younger audience, setting the stage for a seven-single run of top 10 hits from the album. “Dancing In The Dark” became Springsteen’s highest charting single the Boss has ever had, spending four weeks in the #2 position of the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1984, held from the top spot by Duran Duran “The Reflex” and Prince “When Doves Cry”. It also spent six weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart. This single is also Springsteen’s only to be certified platinum.
[Verse 1] I get up in the evening And I ain't got nothing to say I come home in the morning I go to bed feeling the same way I ain't nothing but tired Man, I'm just tired and bored with myself Hey there, baby I could use just a little help [Chorus] You can't start a fire You can't start a fire without a spark This gun's for hire Even if we're just dancing in the dark [Verse 2] Messages keep getting clearer Radio's on, and I'm moving 'round my place I check my look in the mirror I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face Man, I ain't getting nowhere I'm just living in a dump like this There's something happening somewhere Baby, I just know that there is [Chorus] You can't start a fire You can't start a fire without a spark This gun's for hire Even if we're just dancing in the dark [Bridge] You sit around getting older There's a joke here somewhere, and it's on me I'll shake this world off my shoulders Come on, baby, the laugh's on me [Verse 3] Stay on the streets of this town And they'll be carving you up all right They say, "You gotta stay hungry" Hey, baby, I'm just about starving tonight I'm dying for some action I'm sick of sitting around here trying to write this book I need a love reaction Come on now, baby, give me just one look [Chorus] You can't start a fire Sitting 'round crying over a broken heart This gun's for hire Even if we're just dancing in the dark You can't start a fire Worrying about your little world falling apart This gun's for hire Even if we're just dancing in the dark [Outro] Even if we're just dancing in the dark Even if we're just dancing in the dark Even if we're just dancing in the dark Hey, baby [Outro Saxophone Solo]

Too late, I answered it 😜 1. Song of the year. If you had asked me a week ago, probably a McFly song but I'm now inclined to say Sweet Tooth from Wonka, just for the Matness of it all.
2. Album of the year. Power to Play, McFly - I do usually love every McFly album so I'm a bit biased but I really loved this one, they went back to their rockier routes and it felt like an album they really enjoyed making for a change. Also we got Silence is a Scary Sound officially recorded for it and that's been one of my favourite songs of theirs for yearssss!
3. Favourite musical artist/group you started listening to this year. I think the only artist that I started listening to this year and really enjoyed was Ian McConnell. The song Ep. 4 - Important especially resonated with me and honestly, my Discover Weekly on Spotify is always on point because I discovered him on there. But yeah, Ep. 4 - Important got me through some shit this year, sang it to myself whenever I was feel very anxious about something insignificant.
22. Favourite place you've visited this year. I was fortunate to visit a lot of places this year, both new and old - it's been a year of just going places if I want to. But top of my list has to be Prague, it was a wonderful city, full of so much history and the food was just exactly to my taste (carbs and meat 🤤). All topped off by getting to meet @the-illuminated-one and getting to see the wonders of the city with someone who truly knows it. I will be back in 2024 with @sunrisebirds and no-one can stop me.
23. If you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be? For whatever reason, every year we endure seems to feel harder than the last and for so many reasons, this one ends up meeting that expectation and more. But towards the end of the year, things will become clear, life will suddenly make a lot more sense and you'll get the rest you deserve without feeling guilty about it.
Thanks for the asks, Nat! 💖
End of year asks.

hiiii! i really appreciate everything you do for the j/s fandom and i LOVE reading all your meta! i was wondering if you have an Ultimate Favourite j/s fic? or like a top Five Ultimate Favourite Forever Fics? thanks so much again for everything u do for us j/s obsessed people! <3
hello! thank you so much for your kind words, you are definitely giving me too much credit but i can absolutely give you my most beloved j/s recs <3
three immediately came to mind and they all have in common an incredible trajectory from friendship to romance imo, like the platonic foundations are laid and developed gorgeously. they also have in common a messy james and an intense friendship that is also jagged and spiky in places and i love the unconditionality of the messiness. i kept putting off trying to choose another two, and i will keep doing that for infinity, so here are three for now that i love.
i also made a reclist in 2016 which needs updating because i've read some gorgeous works just this year alone but all of the ones i've marked as formative still stand. apologies for any dead links and also just the weird way i spoke online when i was 20(!)
pioneers by inveracities
I feel like this fic needs no introduction but that's because I've revisited it so much over the years that I just assume most j/s people have also read it. at the time i was very anti reading in-progress fics because of my own impatience but this was soooo worth it. the characterisation just instantly gripped me - it takes a great deep dive into james' psyche, i think that the narration is super clever here, the gap between what james knows and doesn't know, what is said and unsaid. his voice is really strong in this and it really gets the complexity of how the journey from friends to lovers isn't a seamless transition, even though everything is there, but when it matters there's no question of loyalty or love. somehow toxic and also lowkey fluffy at the same time? chef's kiss.
rainbirds by inaspic
this was only published this year but contender for my favourite ever j/s fic??? it just scratches so many of my niche itches and it accomplishes so much in like 10k words. it's kitchen sink, it's got messy james which is underwritten imo (but in all of these fics, go figure), i love james as someone who fucks up and makes mistakes but who tries to be better. i love sirius as james' stability. i LOVE the way that music is an intrinsic part of this fic and the way james and sirius bond, the way james processes alife that he feels out of step with. usually i find it hard to relate to music as a written experience because it feels almost too intimate to replicate but it adds so much hereand it helps that it is music that i LOVE. three of the artists in this fic are in my spotify wrapped top 5 sooo was it written just for me? maybe. i left a comment on this fic so read that for all the things i love about this. also we need more 90s james/sirius
just know by tabbycat
another one that looks at the thin, blurred lines between love and friendship and how they're navigated. i love a james love confession, he's a romantic and i feel like his position of stability for his friends sometimes means that his passion (good and bad) maybe gets overlooked or underwritten. the pacing of this is incredible, sirius' reticence and resolve are written so well and the way that things pass unsaid, or awkwardly said but perfectly understood, between james and sirius signals that strong, underlying bond despite friction on the surface.
hope you enjoy! if you've read them already, they hold up so good on a reread <3
