guys, hear me out. so, in this interview, noah basically confirmed the duffers have explicitly been building the idea of will being in love with mike since season 1.

but… it’s actually really odd if you think about it cause will was basically trying to survive the ud the whole season? he was missing. it’s really weird to convey the idea that will loves mike when will’s not really there. but… who wasn’t missing and couldn’t stop thinking, caring and searching for will (apart from his mom/brother)? it was mike. mike was the first one to organize a search party to look for will and the first one to believe he was not dead. unlike the rest of his friends, mike was the only one who biked to his house crying after finding out his best friend was apparently “dead”, he was the only one to have a scene showing him grieving his friend with a queer coded lyrics playing. mike was the only one who felt so personally offended when the bullies were calling will homophobic slurs that he stood out for him. mike was the only who didn’t fall asleep so that he would be the first one to hug his best friend at the hospital…
