Yakuza Character Drink Headcanons
A brief break from the romance posts since I realize I did two in a row. Also thank you for all of the love you’ve shown my posts. Especially love when y’all write in the tags. Reminder that you can send any submissions or requests of any kind my way. Until then, enjoy this shorter post and I’ll see y’all tomorrow!
Kazuma Kiryu
Mostly drinks just water. Dislikes overly sweet drinks. Will totally go on whiskey distillery tours if given the choice. Favorite alcohol is whiskey. Has never been blackout drunk. When drunk, he just gets tired.
Majima Goro
Likes mildly sweetened drinks as well as sour drinks, like lemonade. Boba weirds him out (”Drinks are for sippin’ Not chewin’ on stuff!”) and he’s not a fan of coffee. Likes all alcohol but loves sharing a beer with Saejima most. A loud menace and easily provoked when drunk.
Saejima Taiga
Black coffee at the start of the day. Likes milkshakes. Fascinated by Ramune (”Why’s this drink got a lil’ ball inside?”) but tends to break them when opening them due to his strength. Favorite alcohol is beer, hands down. Gets hiccups when he drinks but rarely gets more than tipsy.
Akiyama Shun
Drinks mostly fruit juice of any kind. Almost never drinks water, he’s practically a camel. He’s a big fan of champagne but knows it’s not practical so usually gets whiskey or shochu. He’s a flirty drunk and giggles a lot.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Chugs soda like there’s no tomorrow when he’s working. Prefers soda over coffee. During sit down meals, he drinks tea, mostly chrysanthemum tea. Fond of boba drinks. Likes to drink shochu but is a total lightweight.
Ryuji Goda
Really into tea. Especially traditional tea ceremonies. Has his own personal tea set and takes it quite seriously. Honestly doesn’t drink much else. For alcohol, he dabbles in whiskey or champagne but knows his limits very well and will never get publicly drunk.
Mine Yoshitaka
Drinks protein shakes when he works out. Otherwise, it’s mostly water or herbal tea. Is surprisingly into cocktails and finds bartending to be rather interesting. Has a personal minibar at home. Never has more than one drink in public so he never gets drunk outside of his home.
Daigo Dojima
Like Ryuji except with coffee. Very interested in brewing his own coffee and will always take time to brew himself a cup in the morning. Hates instant coffee. Likes rum and whiskey. Drinking gives him headaches so he doesn’t do it often.
Nishikiyama Akira
Smoothies and fruit juice all the way. He does genuinely like the taste but also does it because it’s popular with the ladies. Tries to get into whiskey but really prefers vodka. Not great at knowing his limits with alcohol.
Tachibana Tetsu
It’s coffee in the morning and water at night. Detests soda. The carbonation feels uncomfortable to him. Seldom drinks, mostly because he’s a total lightweight and most alcohol makes him totally nauseous. Likes gin and tonic the most.
Haruka Sawamura
Boba tea drinker. Likes to get all kinds of toppings put into her drink. Blends her own juice at home using fruits from the market. Particularly fond of guava or strawberry juice. Has never tasted alcohol but the smell reminds her of cleaning products.

morning witches!!
made lavender lemon cookies from components harvested in my yard and wanted to share the process!!
this is a fun witchy activity. lavender helps promote relaxation, happiness, cleansing, peace, protection,  and purification. lemon helps promote mental clairty, joy, and is also good for cleaning. together, these are very spritely, joyful cookies!
so, heres the box of lavender and rosemary I harvested yesterday.
Tumblr media
then i remembered we have a lemon tree! so i grabbed some of those too and took down a bundle of lavender i had been drying to make cookies :)
Tumblr media
then of course you have to zest the lemons and squeeze a lil lemon juice (for later, its not required for this recipe.)
Tumblr media
next, you get the dried lavender off the stalk, boil a little with sugar and strain to make simple syrup, and set the rest aside for later!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after that you can get down to the making of the dough, you will need:
1. 1/2 cup white or brown sugar
2.1/2 cup butter
3. 2 eggs
4. 2 1/2- 2 3/4 cups of baking flower (i used gluten free, ill talk about the Consequences of that later)
5. 2 tsp double acting baking powder
6. 1 (or more ;0 ) teaspoons of vanilla extract
7. 3 tbsp lavender buds
8. 2 lemons worth of zest
instructions:
1. cream the butter and the sugar. to cream, you can use a pastry cutter, potato masher, stand or hand mixer, or just be really aggressive with a spoon. combine them untill there a fluffy homogenous mass.
2. beat in the eggs, flour, baking soda, lavender, lemon zest, and vanilla.
4. make the dough into a ball and wrap in saran wrap. put it all in the fridge for 3-4 hours to chill.
5. after its chilled, get a clean cutting board, hopefully a larger one without those little rims to catch juice.
6. preheat the oven to 375° Fahrenheit,  or about 190° Celsius
7. flour the surface you are working on, your hands, and your rolling pin lightly. then begin the process of flattening the dough with the pin.
8. once dough is nice and flat, descend upon the dough with FUN SHAPE COOKIE CUTTERS!!! yay!!!
9. keep collecting the little dough bits that dont quite make it into thr cookies, ball them and roll em out more. do this till u have very little dough left, which you can shape into a little circle and add to the baking sheet (or just eat it, hehe.)
10. either add parcment to or grease and flour a cookie baking sheet.  then place the cookies on the sheet and pop em in the oven for 7 - 12 minutes.
unfortunately, i did not get a picture of the dough as i am a goon and a fool :( but i took a pic of the cookie cutters!
Tumblr media
Now, its time to make the icing! I made boiled icing and due to a unfortunately sized saucepan, covered my entire kitchen in sugar. SO PLEASE USE A MID SIZE SAUCE PAN, NOT A TEENY ONE LIKE I DID.
the process goes as follows:
you will need:
1. 2 cups sugar
2. 1 cup water
3. 2 egg whites
4. 1 tbsp lavender simple syrup
5. 1 tsp vanilla extract
6. (a little zest and lavender buds, if desired)
instructions:
1. combine water, sugar, and syrup in the MEDIUM (i cannot stress that enough) saucepan. cover on a medium heat for approx. 3 minutes, till all sugar crystals dissolve.
2. uncover and grab a candy thermometer. bring the sugar to a boil and keep an eye on the temperature, stirring often.  the temp you are looking for is BETWEEN 238-240 DEGREES. the sugar should create long, delicate spindly strings when you take spoon outta the water.
3. turn the heat off. take the egg whites and beat UNTIL FOAMY.
4. this is where you must use an exceeding amount of caution unless you want chunks of cooked eggwhite in your glaze: pour the hot sugar mixture into the egg in a THIN STREAM, STIRRING CONSTANTLY.
5. once thats all mixed, add vanilla, and lemon + lavender if desired.
glaze pic:
Tumblr media
when the cookies are done, put a little glaze on each one of them to create a tasty clear coating. additionally, if you make the cookies with GF flour: PUT ON THE GLAZE BEFORE MOVING COOKIES OFF THE PAN. the GF flour is a little less able to keep its shape and will fall apart on you if you dont put thr glaze on to keep it together. put the glaze on. let it set. theres a reason so few of my cookies are in this picture of the finished product:
Tumblr media
HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY!! hope this helps,
Blessed Be!!!

Unpopular Opinion
Unpopular Opinion: Flat soda is AWESOME. It’s soda in taste, but if you need to sneeze/burp, it won’t feel like hellfire. Also, it’s like juice, if juice snorted sugar.

Congrats @th-ink-first and @starrypawz for same-braining a prompt that also played into the irony of me having a bad day (but I don’t have an Ortega to smooch myself, this is not fair...)
Prompt: “I’ve had a terrible day at work so just kiss me” Word count: 544 Warnings: None! Say this is... a lil before HB when Riley and Ric are way too comfortable in their not-relationship lol.
You eyeball the drinks in the fridge with a frown. All out of the sodas Anathema started keeping on hand for you. Only grapefruit juice left on her shelf. Gross. Would Steel notice if you stole one of his sports drinks? Probably. But would he know it was y—
Strong arms slide around you. Your breath hitches in your throat before your brain catches up, takes in everything else. Scent of sandalwood and o-zone, tingle of static embraces you as you're pulled back into a broad, warm chest. Safe, familiar, you relax back against him.
"Ric?"
Hot breath on your neck and oh, now you can smell it. Alcohol. He's off-duty, then. Getting a jump start on Hoots. Tequila? Liquor is quicker.
"Everything alright?"
He hums, hands sinking to your hips. Pushing, pulling, spinning you in place so you're chest-to-chest. Stares down at you with warm brown eyes. You swallow, try to ignore the heat creeping up your neck.
"What's up?"
"Had a terrible day at work." His forehead gently butts against yours as he puts on an unconvincing pout. "So just kiss me."
Your eyebrow creeps up as you ponder the day's events, which you had also been present for. Forewarned, forearmed, the plan to stop Nyx went off mostly without a hitch. The Rangers thwarted the heist with no major property damage.  That meant less paperwork. No one got injured too badly in the fight.  Even less paperwork, no guilt. The asshole got away tho—
Ah.
Sore loser. He hates it when they get away despite everything else going to plan. Even more than getting the shit kicked out of himself and losing them. At least unconscious, he doesn't have to watch them escape.
You chuckle, push yourself up onto your toes. Press your lips to his as you cradle his face in your hands. Rough with five o'clock shadow. He purrs his contentment, one of his hands sliding up your back, cupping the back of your skull as he deepens the kiss.
Your nose wrinkles at the taste of alcohol on his tongue. Definitely tequila. He's lucky you like him more than you dislike the flavor. Not that you'll ever tell him that.
You settle back on your heels, give him a grin. "You'll get him next time. The Rangers always get their man."
He leans down this time, tilts your head back, mumbles, "Hmmm. Might need another kiss for luck."
"You need whatever luck you can get, old man."
He smirks as he takes your lips again. Static shivers run up and down your spine. Fuck. He's doing that on purpose. You—
"Hey, get a room!"
You both jolt apart, two steps back, turn towards the door. Anathema stands there, arms crossed over her chest, grinning broadly. She saunters over and nudges the forgotten fridge closed after grabbing one of her drinks.
"Nothing to see here." Ortega gives her a sly look, grabs your hand, heads for the door. "We were just leaving."
"Right…"
"You coming to Hoots with us?" you ask as you're pulled along.
"Nah, got some stuff to take care of tonight." She gives you a jaunty wave as her grin turns crooked, watching Ortega drag you out the door. "Enjoy your date!"
"It's not a date!"

Korean Street Food for the Universes!
In this post, I'll teach you to make an obscure food from Steven Universe! Let's go to Korea!
In this blink-and-you-miss-it screenshot, we see that Greg and Steven enjoyed some random food while walking around doing tourist things in Korea during “Steven’s Dream.” With help from others, I eventually came to the conclusion that Steven is eating hotteok (a filled fried bread) and Greg is drinking a fruit milk!
Check out the info below to see how to make your own fruit milk (though I also show commercial fruit milk, which I bought at the Asian food market to compare) and how to make your own hotteok at home!
See more SU food tutorials!
First, the banana milk.
Because of the iconic shape of the container, the beverage Greg is drinking definitely looks like a fruit milk from a popular brand, though there are also other kinds of fruit milks. Banana’s the most popular so I’m making that.
Banana Milk
This is an easy recipe. The measurements I'm giving you here will make ONE serving of banana milk, so gather as many bananas as you have people wanting to try it, and do this for each.
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1-2 drops of vanilla extract
Tumblr media
Cut off the very ends of the banana. Cut it in half, slice the peel down the length, and hold it in your hand while slicing the half into pieces.
Tumblr media
Put the pieces in the blender pitcher and do the other half too. This is a convenient way to prepare bananas to go in drinks without handling the banana itself or getting messy. I learned it when I worked at an ice cream shop.
After the banana is in, you add the water, the milk, the syrup, and the vanilla.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Put the lid on and mix. Use a setting that will create a milky texture; we drink this like milk, so it should be more liquid than smoothie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When done, it's a bit frothy and smells sweet and delicious (if you like banana).
Pour it into a tall glass, add a thick straw, and enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is much sweeter than I expected with just the syrup as sweetener. Very delicious!
Tumblr media
But I wondered how it might compare to its commercial Korean counterpart, so I shopped for some at the Asian market. They had the brand I recognized--Binggrae--but it was a juice box package and not the weird pseudo-cone (it has a picture of that packaging on it though!) and the store only had melon milk--out of banana. I bought that AND a banana milk SODA for fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Verdict? The melon milk was VERY VERY SWEET, like drinking ice cream! Very good, glad it's small. The soda was a fakey banana flavoring with fizz, soda-sweet, not terrible but I wasn't a huge fan either. I liked my banana milk best.
Shall we move on to stuffed pancakes?
Hotteok
Not your traditional Western pancake!
Ingredients:
1 package active dry yeast (2-1/4 teaspoons)
1/4 cup warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sweet rice flour, aka glutinous rice flour or powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
About 1 and 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
9 to 10 tablespoons of any seeds and nuts
Tumblr media
Suggestions for seeds and nuts to use could be sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, most seeds or nuts can work if they are small or can be chopped smaller.
Directions:
First, prepare your yeast. This is standard if you're experienced with yeast dough. Warm your water to between 100° and 110° F / 37° 43° C. (Measure to be sure.) Put the 1 teaspoon of sugar in, then stir in the yeast. Wait about 10 minutes for the yeast to foam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it's ready, combine your dry ingredients (flour, rice powder, sugar, salt) and add the yeast mixture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mix that, add your tablespoon of oil, and then heat the milk to the same temperature you used for the yeast. DON'T add it yet.
Tumblr media
Pour about a cup of the milk in and work it in with your hands.
Tumblr media
Add more milk in tiny splashes until it's solid but a tad sticky. You have to experiment because flour and rice powder are different depending on many factors, so you have to guess at the amount of liquid. Once it is kneaded and holding together and STICKY but still comes off your hands, it's ready.
Tumblr media
Put plastic on it and let it RISE in a warm place for an hour.
Tumblr media
While you wait, you can make filling. Mix the 1/4 cup quantities of sugar together, add cinnamon, and then chop nuts if needed. Get everything combined evenly in a bowl and wait.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry, but before we can cook we have one more rise! After the dough has risen, gently pat it down into a round and let it rise uncovered for another 20 minutes. It's gonna be stringy, sticky. When that's over, you're ready!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pour a couple tablespoons cooking oil into a big skillet and turn to medium heat. Then get a place where you can press your pancakes out into discs.
Tumblr media
Oil your hands and pull off a piece of dough in a 2-inch ball. Press the ball onto your surface and get a little well going for the filling to go in! It's a lil dough cup!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now add filling! Put about 2 tablespoons of filling in the well. Press it down with the back of your spoon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, with your fingers, gently squeeze the rims together into a dumpling shape. The dough is pretty hardy and resistant. If it's tearing on you, you've made your disc too thin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we cook! Press the blob seam-side down into the pan, on the oil. Squish it down a bit with a spatula or flat squishing implement and get started on the next one! Fun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They cook 1 to 2 minutes before they become golden brown. You should flip them carefully when that happens and squish them even flatter. Lift them out and put them on a plate! Paper towels can soak up the extra oil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can make 9 or 10 filled cakes with this dough. I recommend refreshing your cooking oil halfway through. You can even choose different fillings if you want!
Tumblr media
Prepare for eating by folding over, securing with a toothpick, and sliding into a paper cup.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you can't eat all your hotteok at once, they do freeze well. You can pop them in a toaster oven to warm them up.
I hope you enjoyed this how-to for my inauthentic but tasty version of Korean street food! Let's look at the spread!

RDR2 Boys Cooking + Eating Habits
Arthur
Somebody else on here wrote some headcanons about Arthur not being able to cook and just eating microwave food all the time and I just have to say…. That’s canon
Lowkey though he’s trying his best to get better at cooking
Probably the only thing he knows how to make is pasta
He adds a bunch of random frozen veggies to water as the noodles are cooking
And then smothers the whole thing in butter and calls it a meal
Or he puts marinara sauce on it straight from the jar
And yes, that means it’s cold
He’s also getting better at friend rice, too
But he’s really bad at actually making rice
If he doesn’t add too much water… He burns the bottom
Charles makes a mental note to buy him a rice cooker for his birthday
Makes his own popsicles out of random fruit juices and eats them 24/7
Thinks this qualifies him as a chef
Eats pickles and olives straight out of the jar with a fork
And sauerkraut too probably
Just goes over to john’s house on his pizza nights
Puts ketchup on eggs
John
Pizza dad
Probably orders pizza, salad, and a 64oz soda twice a week
Everything else is just Dino chicken nuggets, Eggos, hot dogs, quesadillas, and frozen peas and corn
Food you feed to little kids, basically
Mostly because he does have a little kid
But also because it’s easy and takes minimal effort and he doesn’t mind eating it, too
Abigail would be mad but she has no room to talk
The most you’ll see him actually make is buttered pasta (like Arthur) or sometimes beans and rice
Abigail bought them a rice cooker a while ago so that’s one thing he doesn’t have to worry about
Probably always has some type of dessert laying around
Doesn’t mean it’s good, but it’s there
Abigail buys a bunch of those gross, low calorie ice creams and John ends up having to finishing them
Family lunches consist of a bologna sandwich on wheat bread with American cheese and mayo, a piece of fruit, a bag of chips or crackers, a go-gurt, and some gummies
And yes he makes them for himself and Abigail too
They’re all eating good at the Marston household
(Not really)
Charles
Everything he cooks are things that can’t be made in single batches
Lots of healthy soups, chilis, stew, etc…
Most of the time, he makes too much of whatever it is so he always has leftovers
Everyone is jealous when he brings them for lunch
Probably finds all of his recipes in the newspaper or random magazines he reads while at the grocery store checkout line
Everyone is like, “Charles… Why are you reading Women’s Fitness?”
And he’s like, “Check out this salad recipe, though”
Puts hot sauce on everything
Salad, macaroni and cheese, hamburgers... You name it
And he’s the king of snacking
All of his snacks are healthy, though
Raw veggies and fruit and quinoa chips from Whole Foods or something like that
Nobody likes this
He’s one of those people who brings hard boiled eggs everywhere as a “snack,” too
And yea, he puts hot sauce on those, also
He really likes those weird protein bars that are hard to bite into and taste like chalk
The flavors are either normal stuff like white chocolate macadamia or Protein Power Punch with whey, chia and seaweed
There’s no in between
He’s also a charcuterie board legend
Hosea is jealous of this talent
Micah
Spends all his money on take out
He’s totally one of those weird people who’s entire trash can is just filled with take out boxes and cans of coke or beer
Constantly eating fast food
You ask him what he bought at the supermarket and he’s like “Pub mix and bud light”
SIR
Everything that he does manage to cook only involve one step of preparation
Unseasoned, fried meats and boiled veggies
Sometimes scrambled eggs and bacon
If he’s feeling fancy, he will make plain sandwiches
This is very rare, though
Can and will complain about anyone’s cooking
Even if it’s good and he he likes it
There are certain people he can’t do this to, though, or they won’t let him eat
The only person’s cooking he doesn’t complain about is Dutch’s
Constantly snacking from an entire party sized bag of chips
And yes, he eats straight out of the bag and wipes his fingers on his jeans
His oven is dirty
Hosea
A meal for him is probably a handful of almonds and an applesauce or yogurt cup
He is constantly making a bunch of those Tik Tok recipes where you just put a bunch of random stuff into your crock pot and add ranch seasoning and cream cheese
*insert all of those memes about mom pulling out the crock pot*
If you complain, he says “Well, you’re always welcome to cook, too”
Wears an apron when he cooks
Constantly eating plain toast with butter
And bananas
And cheese sticks
Thinks that this makes him “healthy”
Definitely likes to snack on those cocktail fruit cups and canned mandarin oranges
His entire freezer is just full of ice cream
It’s all weird flavors like Cherry Garcia, chocolate banana, and pistachio though
Everyone hates him for this
Raisins are his late night treat
Has a secret stash of candy no one can find
That’s okay though because it’s mostly Werthers Originals
And Chiclets gum
He picks out all the orange ones, though
Dutch
Tries to re-plate takeout so he can call it his own
Everybody sees through this but they stopped commenting on it like four Thanksgivings ago
Buys a bunch of those meals from Costco that all you need to do is heat up in the oven
He does like fast food but only from the less popular places
Carl’s Jr., Wendy’s, BK, Arby’s, etc.
A&W, too, because he’s old and weird
He can totally cook, he just never does
It’s just normal stuff like spaghetti and meatballs or chicken and rice, though
Tuna fish casserole
He over-seasons everything, though
Mostly because he’s trying to prove that he’s a good cook
Eats dessert twice, every night
Once right after dinner, and then later when he’s feeling like a treat
Will eat in bed
Uses a little bib and tray and everything
Likes pumpkin and sunflower seeds
Would eat hot wings with gloves on
He’s the one who taught Arthur to put ketchup on eggs
Kieran
The second I realized that Kieran would probably be white trash, my life changed
Hamburger Helper meals for LIFE
That one cheeseburger pasta? Kieran probably eats that three times a week
He 100% makes the ketchup-butter sketti from Honey Boo Boo
“It’s been a while since I done had roadkill in my belly”
His favorite dessert is ambrosia salad or that weird yogurt/Cool Whip covered jello that was popular in the 2000s
Probably has a TV dinner every once in a while, too
Instant mashed potatoes and minute rice type of guy
Also gives me big microwave cheddar broccoli vibes
I’ve said this before, but his house is probably stocked with all kinds of on-brand goodies
Probably always has some kind of chip and cookie around
Eats dinner in front of the TV
Dips french fries in mayonnaise
All of this said though, he isn’t a picky eater and will eat whatever is put on his plate
That’s why he’s great to take to restaurants, because he never complains
Honestly it’s just so sweet to think of him making big crockpot meals to share with ppl even if his cooking is a lil.... strange
Javier
Thinks that the hot dog combo from Costco is a suitable dinner
Also gets hot food from the grocery store for dinner a lot
Literally will just heat up a can of something and eat it plain
Beans, chili, soup…
Doesn’t doctor it up or change it at all
He’s happy to share but no one wants any
Chips and dip, 24/7
And it’s just Tostitos Hint of Lime chips and hummus
Probably puts hummus on everything, too
Corn chips, tortilla chips, tortillas, vegetables, sandwiches, etc.
Will put anything in a tortilla and call it a sandwich
Eats leftovers cold
The rest of the gang thinks this is a sin
Makes stir fry with whatever is laying around the house
It’s a little gross because he will try to add leftover beans
Refuses to eat fast food
The only exception he’ll make is for french fries and ice cream
Walks around and eats at the same time
Isn’t above asking the other boys to share with him
Despite the fact that this only happens if what they’re eating is good
Which is almost never
Sean
Sean can’t cook. That’s the end of it
The most he can make is that weird microwave Mac and cheese where the pasta is boiled in the mug??
He never does it tho and just sticks with the normal, frozen Mac and Cheese you can microwave instead
Uses his microwaving ability to make mug cakes
And microwave scrambled eggs
Burns his popcorn every single time
He’s probably set of the smoke detector or fire alarm multiple times
He’s Irish though so of course he’s addicted to potatoes and cabbage
And since he’s from the UK, he likes stuff like beans on toast and marmite
He’s a little nasty too so catch him eating bologna sandwiches on wonder bread
Not even the Marstons are that bad
When he does get takeout, he overspends trying to use a delivery app
He’s like, “And do I need the extra side of special sauce for $5…? Yes.”

This is obscenely long for what was supposed to be a drabble so I'm just going to link @susoftjockau, they’re incredibly wholesome and cute.
Edit: I may have gotten a few things wrong because I posted at 3 am, & this is an unbeta’d work. Also, being that I am not affiliated with the SJ AU, I don’t know if Fiona’s personality at all fits within its standard. If there’s another cheerleader character that her actions would make more sense for, I can totally change it. Its Connverse focused after all.
The first song Steven's riffing on is "It's Only Love" (though you may know it as Michelle) by The Beatles. The second song is "Love Like You," Steven Universe's extended credits theme.
I am continuing this for thursday’s prompt, together, as I orginally wanted them to have a conversation in the morning but at 3 am I had to call this done. I wrote over 4k words in one day that I was off from work and I can’t be doing that again, or staying up later, haha.
Lastly, the idea that Steven only likes sweet alcoholic bevs is hardwired into me, as someone who hates beer and wine, I think he wouldn't like them either. I mean he doesn't like energy drinks for stars sake (he makes a face when drinking one in Kevin Party), what about beer would be appealing when he can have wine coolers and ciders?
Anyway, feedback makes me smile, even if you tell me about typos or that I could be doing something better. Please let me know of I neglected any tags I should mention. Thanks for reading!
Edit 2: Tumblr mobile ate this post so when I got back home and tried to fix i the format didn’t have my readmore, so if you reblog it won’t be as much of a wall of text anymore. Sorry!
A night at a party for College-age Steven and Connie results in one too strong drink, a clumsy walk home, and embracing each other through the tears. Hurt-Comfort in the Soft Jock AU. Established relationship, but no significant physical intimacy. Rated T for drinking and one use of mild language. Some depression talk and self esteem issues too. Teen.
Steven had been sitting at a table, enjoying the music and sipping a soda in a red plastic cup until all that was left was ice. He was waiting for Connie to finish her conversation with Natalie across the room. He bobbed his head lightly to the music playing from the speaker by the doorway. He was smiling at Connie until Fiona came to sit down in front of him. He sat up a bit straighter and looked at her.
“Hey Fiona,” he said.
“You sticking around, Universe? Or you itching to get out of here,” asked Fiona.
“I wouldn’t say I’m itching to get out of here,” he replied. “But Connie and I were looking to leave soon.”
“Do you want another drink before you go?”
“Well, I did already have 2 wine coolers earlier, so I think I’m done for the night.”
“Really,” she asked. “I mean, how long ago was that? Like 10?”
“10:30,” he replied. “But I have to get home soon, anyway.”
“That was almost 2 hours ago.” She said. “You can have another drink. I’ll be right back, wait here. You like soda and orange flavor, right?” She began to stand and he tried to wave her back.
“Don’t trouble yourself for me, Fiona.”
“If you like soda and fruit juices, you’ll like it. You can barely taste the alcohol, the way I make it. Don’t go anywhere, I’ll make one for each of us.”
“Well, ok.”
She disappeared into the kitchen, just past the speakers. He tapped his foot and glanced back to Connie, who had leaned into Natalie as their conversation continued. Natalie had on a wry expression as she finished telling Connie something, and Connie threw her head back and laughed. It was nice to see Connie be more comfortable with herself after a few years in college. To see her laughing at a party and not have himself be the cause of it was a good feeling. Steven can’t help but feel his chest swell with pride. He smiled at her but didn’t try to get her attention yet.
With a clink, a glass was set down in front of him, Fiona sliding in from his peripherals. The drink didn’t look bubbly, a brown-orange tone with a few ice cubes and a lemon wedge hung over its rim. The glass looked like a juice glass, not designed to hold over 10 ounces, and it wasn’t full, so he assumed it was about a 6 to 8 oz drink. Fiona had her glass in her hand as she sat next to Steven with smirk.
“Ready to try something new, Steven?” Fiona asked. “Take a sip without the lemon first, then squirt it if you want it more sour.” She raised her glass, waiting to have him give her a cheers with his.
He lifted the drink and clinked hers, quietly saying “Cheers,” before bringing it to his lips. Sweet and sour was the first flavor he noted, and then mostly orange, with some cola blending in and a minor alcoholic tang. He was pretty sure the base of the liquor was tequila, but there were other flavors he couldn’t identify, since he was pretty new to trying drinks. He nodded and smiled after the first sip. “It’s good.”
“You like?” Fiona replied, voice coy.
“Yeah,” he said, and with two gulps his drink was almost gone. She snorted, seeing how quick he had downed the cocktail. He gasped quietly, the burn in his throat stronger than the flavors had made it out to be.
“Careful there, Universe, or you’ll be on the floor,” Fiona remarked. “You aren’t a lightweight, are you?”
“Its fine,” he replied, downing the last sip. His eyes drifted back to Connie who was quickly approaching from across the room, brows knitted in concern, and Natalie behind her. He moved to stand from the stool and stumbled slightly, not expecting to be feeling the alcohol so quickly. Connie moved her arms to steady him.
“You ok?” she asked, eyeing him over. Steven gave a dopey smile and leaned on her slightly.
“Heeeeeyyyy Connieeee,” his voice turning sultry and mellow. His lowered pitch sent a chill up her spine, but she pushed the feeling that thrilled her down and rounded on Fiona, glaring.
“What did you give him?” Connie barked.
“It looked like a Long Island Iced Tea,” Natalie said from behind Connie.
“I call it…” Fiona replied, pausing for effect and waving her half-finished drink in one hand, “a Strong Island Iced Tea. It’s got more tequila and sours than the standard.”
“A Long Island Iced Tea,” Connie half-shouted, exasperated. “Are you kidding me, Fiona? That has 5 kinds of alcohol in it!”
“Whoa,” Steven remarked quietly but with his lowered tone it made Connie feel warm in the pit of her stomach. “I didn’t know that. You’re so smart, Connie.” Her cheeks burned with blush as he said it with such adoration.
“He’s hammered,” Natalie crooned, half-way hiding a chuckle, before straightening up and gesturing her hand out. “Gimmie his keys. He shouldn’t be driving anywhere tonight.”
“I’m not hammered, jus’ a lil’ tipsy.” He slurred. He swayed slightly as Connie fished through his Jacket pocket. “Gimme an hour and I’ll be fiinnneee.”
“Definitely not,” she replied firmly, but not harshly. She handed Natalie Steven’s car keys. “You can stay with me tonight, ok? Sleepover?” He gasped with excitement.
“Sleepover!” he warbled hazily. “With Connie. You’re so sweet.” Her face felt hotter, as she gripped his hand in hers.
“Thanks for this, Fiona,” Connie said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “See you later.” Fiona grinned and waved.
“Don’t dare take advantage of him,” Natalie called, starting to walk back toward the party-goers. “I’ll find out. And make sure he hydrates.” She took out her phone and sent a group text to Steven and Connie, I have your keys, come get them after you’ve slept it off.
“I got this,” Connie replied, exasperation clear in her tone. She looked back in his face at his reddening eyes and put on a plating smile, trying to speak more kindly. “Let’s go get some rest, ok? You look tired.”
“You’re the best, Connie.” He said, glowing with inebriation. She began to lead him out when he started to serenade her, causing her mild blush to spread to her ears, face beet red. The tune was recognizable, a reworked Beatles cover.
“Connie, my sweet
You have made my heart feel joy complete
My Connie.”
“He doesn’t normally do this in front of others,” she called, voice slightly shaken with embarrassment to the partygoers as she led him through the entryway. “Please ignore us and have a good night.” They passed through the main doorway of the off campus housing as he continued his song.
“Connie, my sweet
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble”
His French pronunciation was faltering. She knew he was at an intermediate Italian level. But in trying to speak French, it sounded like he had tried Duolingo for an hour and was making a fool of himself pretending he had been doing it his whole life. He pitched forward again and she had to nearly dive to keep him upright. She hoisted as much of his broad shoulders and chest over her smaller frame without attempting to carry him outright as he sang sweetly in her ear, legs stumbling behind her.
“I love you, I love you, I love you
That's all I want to say
Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that you'll understand”
She lead him on sidewalks, trying to take the most direct route to her dorm and avoiding uneven surfaces as best she could. Her blush had died down, mainly because other people weren’t watching them. The way his warm frame leaned against her dragging the thrilling feeling out of her again, making her heart pound firmly against her ribs. Still, she tried to keep focus and lead them out of the chill night air as quick as she could.
“Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble
I need to, I need to, I need to
I need to make you see
Oh, what you mean to me
Until I do, I'm hoping you will know what I mean
I love you”
“You’re so sappy,” Connie replied, voice quiet. “I know that you would do his sober, but I just wish this kind of thing was just for the two of us, you know?”
“I want you, I want you, I want you
I think you know by now
I'll get to you somehow
Until I do, I'm telling you so you'll understand”
She leaned against him as she held his hand outside of her dorm, fumbling with her keys as she kept her left hand gripped tight to his right.
“Connie, my sweet
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble
And I will say the only words I know that you'll understand
My Connie.”
He faltered a bit as they came through the doorway, smacking his left arm just above his wrist as she lead him upstairs to her room. Connie winced at the sound. She was grateful her roommate Carly was out of town for the evening. She still probably will hear about it, the rumor mill ran strong on this campus, but at least Connie was spared from more embarrassment this evening.
“You done now?” she asked. She sat him down on the bed and dug through her closet for his spare pair of sweatpants she kept there.
“Uh-huh,” Steven replied, voice thick and alluring. “Thanks for takin’ me back, Strawberry, I know you always lookin’ out for me. I’m lucky I have someone like you. Love you.”
She shivered at the praise, avoiding his eyes as she set the pants down on a clean patch of floor.
“You need to drink some water and take some aspirin before bed.” Connie ordered. “Stay put, I’m going to get both of those things.” She pulled her own pajamas from the corner of the bed and closed the bathroom door behind her. She grabbed the aspirin bottle from the cabinet and set it on the counter. Glancing back to ensure that the door was fully closed, she peeled her outfit off quickly and tugged her PJs on. Grabbing her hairbrush and two pills from the bottle of medicine, she backed outside. Steven still sat on the bed, swaying lazily.
“Hiiii Connnniiieeee.” His voice had drawn back up to its usual tenor as he greeted him. She smiled.
“Hi Steven, stay here for a minute, ok?” She replied. “I’m going to the kitchen, and I want you to wait because I don’t want to risk you falling on the stairs.” She placed the brush on the pants she had set out and kept the pills clutched to her palm by her ring and pinky finger.
“Yooooouuuu got it!” He gave a thumbs up.
She darted out of the room after he confirmed he would stay, and hurried down the stairs. She pulled 2 water bottles from the fridge, both eco-friendly bottles that she and Steven had shared before. After grabbing clean reusable straws from the drying rack to put in the bottles, she marched back upstairs. She left her door open and found Steven had taken his shoes and jacket off in the time she was gone. He laid on his stomach, feet crossed and head propped up on his arms across her bed diagonally.
“You’re cute in your PJs, Connie.” He caught her off guard with that compliment. But she crossed the room anyway and sat next to his head. Despite how lucid he sounded, it was best he got some water in him before going to sleep.
“Thanks, but can you sit up for me? I have some medicine I need to give you and then I’ll brush your hair.”
“Yay! Sleepover activities!” He propped himself up onto his elbows and stuck his tongue out, leaning his head back for the aspirins. She was glad he trusted her this much, but it was a bit worrying that he was so lax. She hoped he would always keep himself safe as he dropped the two pills into his open mouth and pressed the straw of the bottle to his tongue. He leaned on one hand as he took the bottle from her in the other, sipping the water through the straw. If he was always this trusting while drunk, someone could take advantage of him, and that thought scared her. She wanted to think about anything else, so she gently took his curls in her hand and gave them a gentle stroke. A chill went along his back and shoulders and he made a little excited noise.
“I want to brush your hair,” she offered. “Can I take your hair tie out?”
“Mmm-hmm,” his response came around the straw. With a gentle tug the hair tie was out and his curls came loose, framing his maturing face. She stood, watching him as she moved toward the brush on the floor. He finished his sip and let out a contented sigh. “I hope I haven’ been too much trouble, Berry.”
“What?” she asked as she got the brush and came back to sit next to him.
“I’m all loopy, an’ you’ve been takin’ care of me.” His response was quiet but mostly coherent.
“I know you would do the same for me, drunk, sick or whatever, Biscuit,” she replied. “I’m not upset that you need help. It’s ok to ask. Now I’m gonna ask that you sit in front of me so I can brush your hair.”
“Kaaay.” He called, setting the water down on her end table. She gasped as he suddenly rolled off the bed and landed on his left forearm and knees, not reacting quite fast enough to catch himself with his hands. It was still impressive he hadn’t fallen onto his face.
“Steven-“Connie scolded.
“Huh?” he sat up and scooted his back up against her knees.
“Don’t be so careless,” she replied. “You scared me. And drink your water, please.”
“I can do that,” he said. He leaned over to grab the bottle and then rested his head touching her knees. She flipped his hair up onto her thighs, accessing the ends and began brushing. He hummed contentedly. “You’re great, Connie. I’m glad that this all didn’ go badly.” Her brows furrowed with concern as she worked through his tangles. “Was scared, ya know? If you weren’ keeping me calm, I might’ve been the angry drunk type, an’ made a mess of things.”
“I-“ Connie felt her hands shake slightly as she tried to muster a response. “That could happen to anybody, you shouldn’t worry too much…”
“Buh my powers, if ‘m not careful, I could hurt somebody, then I’d get expelled, or arrested, fer sure.” She gripped the brush tightly and accidentally pulled back on a knot. He hissed quietly through his teeth and she dropped the brush. His shoulders trembled slightly and she heard a sniff. She dropped down onto her knees, hugging him from behind.
“No Steven,” she replied, her voice thick with emotion. “I know you wouldn’t intentionally hurt anyone.” He sniffed again, putting his water down and scrubbed at his face.
“Turns out… I’m actually a sad drunk,” he joked, and turned to face her. Her eyes were shining with unshed tears and he gasped. “Oh nooooo… now I’ve made you sad. I’m sorry. ‘m so sorry. So so sorry.” He turned around fully, kneeling and held her tight to his chest. Fat tears dripped down his cheeks. She clutched to his shirt, resting her head on his shoulder and let her own tears fall.
“You don’t- you shouldn’t feel like it’s- it isn’t your fault,” she stuttered.
“I made you cr-cry,” He bawled. “I’m always hurting people, even wh-when I don’t meeean to.” She took a steadying breath, trying to defuse his turbulent emotions.
“You’re allowed to forgive yourself, Steven,” she replied, looking up. Her eyes still shone with wetness, staring into his face as he looked away.
“I- I- embar- rrassed you, I made you cryyyy, and- nd I burdened you with my prob-blems,” he hiccupped. “I shouldn’ be here- I need to-“He moved to stand but Connie held tight.
“No.” she ordered. “You should stay. You’re upset and you’re allowed to be. You can talk to me about anything. Please don’t go. I’ll worry if you leave.”
“B-B-but…”
“Please,” she repeated.
That was convincing enough. He wilted into her touch, resting his head on her shoulder. Any sign of resistance melted away into fatigue. A few trace sobs shook his frame before they quieted. She kept one hand on his shoulder and grabbed Steven’s water with the other. She pulled away long enough to press the drink into his hands. He nodded, sitting down fully and drinking quietly. She sat in front of him and ran one hand through his hair, and gave him gentle strokes on his upper arm with her opposite arm.
“You look like you’re stewing.” She remarked gently. “Having a few drinks doesn’t make you a bad person. Asking for help doesn’t either. I’ll gladly have a few embarrassing stories about me if it means you get to go home safe tomorrow. Letting you leave by yourself and get hurt would have been far worse than anything else that could have gone wrong. You deserve to be safe, ok?” He nodded meekly, finishing the drink with a loud slurp. “You aren’t asking too much to be here. You don’t deserve to feel like a burden, and no one I know would ever say that about you.” He quietly leaned forward, dropping the empty bottle to the space between his thighs and went to press his forehead to hers. She obliged him.
“Thank you,” he half-whispered.
“Now, are you steady enough to stand, or will you need help getting changed?” she leaned over to where the sweatpants she had put out for him earlier sat and pulled herself close to him after grabbing them. He opened his palms to her and let her place them in his hands.
“I think I got it.” His face was tinged with blush at the suggestion. He pressed his right palm to the floor, moving to stand. She pulled herself to her feet first and offered him a hand up. He threw his pants over his shoulder and took his hand. She smiled gently at him. He fondly returned the gesture, steadily making his way to the bathroom door.
“Oh wait, I just want to grab something out of there,” she called, hurriedly stepping in front of him. She snatched the aspirin off the counter and put it away, grabbing makeup wipes and a compact mirror from her medicine cabinet. She stepped out, gesturing behind her. “It’s all yours. Please be careful, maybe sit on the toilet to get changed? I don’t want you to fall.”
With a sigh he nodded. He stepped through the doorway and closed it behind him. She leaned against the wall next to the door and took a make-up wipe out, swiping her mascara streaked eyes before opening the compact. As she worked the wipe across her face she herd Steven’s gentle singing come through the door, just over the sounds of him changing.
“If I could begin to be
Half of what you think of me
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love
When I see the way you act
Wondering when I'm coming back
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you”
She recognized the song as being something he had said the gems had sung for him when he was young. It stung that he might think these kind of thoughts about himself. She swallowed hard.
“Love like you
I always thought I might be bad
Now I'm sure that it's true
'cause I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you”
“Steven, I promise that isn’t true…” She called through the wall. She heard him stand and move toward the door.
“Look at you go
I just adore you
I wish that I knew
What makes you think I'm so special…”
She stood as the door opened and embraced him. He leaned forward into her and sang quietly into her neck. She held him close and rubbed soothing circles into his shoulders. He swayed gently into her touch as he crooned.
“If I could begin to do
Something that does right by you
I would do about anything
I would even learn how to love
When I see the way you look
Shaken by how long it took
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you
Love like you
Love me like you…”
They stood in silence for a moment and just enjoyed being held by each other. After a bit, she lowered her hand and took him by the wrist, leading him to the bed. After he sat, she took her garbage and placed it near the head of the bead and cleared her night stand.
“You’re going to be on the outside of the bed tonight.” She remarked quietly. “I’m the big spoon this time. Just let me know if you start to feel sick. I don’t care if I’m sleeping, I will hold your hair back.” He nodded. “How do you feel right now?”
“Not great, but, better than before,” he muttered.
“Well, I’m going to try and make it better. Lie down, ok?”
“Mmm-hmm.” He obliged without protest. She grabbed the comforter, tucked him in and crossed the room, shutting the light off. She stepped over him and lied down by his left shoulder. She untucked that side of the bed to get herself firmly snuggled into the weighted blanket, and nimbly re-tucked them both in.
“Night, biscuit.” She murmured. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” He replied. “Night.” He turned to face away, pointing his face toward the trash bin in case his stomach lurched in protest while sleeping. She rubbed few more gentle circles into his back and let herself be comforted with his warmth beside him. He heard her breathing even out before long, hoping that sleep would come easier with her beside him. It wasn’t long before the heaviness in his heart was outweighed by heavy eyelids, and drifted into slumber.
------------
Morning came, as it always did, a bit too soon for Connie’s liking. She gave a quiet sigh through her nose and lifted her head to check on Steven, who she could hear was snoring quietly. He had turned in the night to lie on his back, and his calf draped over her lower legs. His expression looked peaceful, but dark circles still showed on the pale skin beneath his eyes. Craning her neck, she could see the bathroom had looked as she had left it, as did the trash bin. It was unlikely seeing these two things in place that he had gotten sick in the night and not woken her.
She laid back down, pressing her face into the soft skin of his upper arm. He smiled contentedly but stayed asleep. It was a Sunday, so no pressing commitments for either of them. She could let him rest and deadlines for Monday be damned. She draped her arm across his torso, and let herself melt into the bed. She told him he deserved to be safe, and she never felt safer than with her next to him. Hopefully, the reverse was true, and she could help him to feel safe and loved. For now, what he needed was sleep, and she wouldn’t deny him that peace. He gave her joy and that was precious to her. So she would help however she could, and that meant staying in bed. She would take it any day.

Japan Log Day 1
I kind of want to create a log of my time in Japan. I think it’d be fun, and from what I’ve heard, I’d be able to remember my trip better! There may be a day delay for me, at least for day one because that was all flying and lemme tell you, after a 13 hour flight, a 3 hour flight felt like NOTHING, haha. I felt like I played on my DS for a half hour and it was over. So, I don’t know when entirely I’ll post these, or if anyone cares, but I don’t. Because it’ll be fun for me to look back on and remember ;)
Day one - The day of insane travel
Our journey began as most other journeys do, of sitting at home, counting away the hours and having panicked thoughts of what you still need to do and what’s been done. My way of coping was to blast music - sorry Tegan - and stare blankly at a wall. Not productive when packing was half done. Luckily, I got everything ready about an hour before my friend came to pick me up. About ten minutes before, I began to stress clean. I guess that’s exciting? Lilia’s parents graciously took us to Vancouver In'tl Airport (YVR)- Canada. The car ride felt short. Shorter than I thought it was to get to the border. Right before we hit, we got to see the tiny little peace arch. Cool! Going in, the border guard is looking over our passports, doing the routine questions.
Then, he leans in and goes “Alauna?” and I sheepishly correct him as he clearly wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce my name. He informs me that I need to sign my passport and I need to do that before I check in at the airport otherwise they may not let me fly. OOPS! Luckily Lil’s dad had a pen that I could use otherwise I’d have to hunt for somewhere to sell a pen at the airport at MIDNIGHT! Getting into the country, I receive a text from my mobile provider. CONGRATS! T-Mobile works in Canada text/data free, call 20c/min. Neat!
After a pretty good wait in line - China Eastern is apparently a very popular company - and chatting with the nice lady in front of us we reach the airline official. Neither of our passports scanned into the computer. Probably because Lilia’s is 9 years old, mine’s 1 month. He was very kind, making sure that we knew our layover was between two different airports in Shanghai (more on that later, ugh) and asked us if we had any illegal items to which we both said no. He smiled and said “I trust you two, you both look very trustworthy”. He then noticed that we were seated at least 10 rows away from each other. With our permission he changed our seats to be together. Once he got our tickets, he pointed out what information we needed to know. Lilia got seat C, he was going to be in seat B, I in A …. wait. There is no seat B! :P With a very heartfelt thank you, we asked where the gates were and said our farewell.
Getting up to security, was a very small line with a long wait. It looked like the officer’s battery had died on his scanner and had to get a new one. Oh well. After that, it took about 2 seconds to make sure our tickets were valid - phew! and go onto phase two with the bag screening. They instructed us to put laptops in a separate tray. Confusedly, I ask the man why. He mentioned because laptops could be bombs. Which, I never thought about and by the look on my face, he must have understood and had a small smile as we thanked him. Lilia got through security fine. The metal detector beeped for me. Contrats, I’m wearing a bra, because that was literally why the detector beeped for me. Past that, we walked through a small mall with a bunch of stores, and very glittery flooring. Our gate was easy to find, and had a subway near us. We just got chips and ginger ale as we both weren’t feeling fantastic.
There’s not much meant to be said for the flight. Although, as it took off, Lilia looked at me and said; “I regret every jet I crashed in GTA 5”
It was nearly 13 hours and insane. Neither of us slept much, which sucked. But, at least it was quiet as pretty much everyone else did sleep. Except for one guy in the row beside us whose entertainment screen wouldn’t turn off and he was trying to sleep so he had his jacket backwards to cover his face LOL. I did kind of feel bad for him since it was legitimately malfunctioning. Their movie selection was pretty bomb. Lilia and I synced up our screens so we watched Furious 7 together. The airline provided us dinner. I accidentally got shrimp noodles, which thank you that my medicine works, and Lilia got some sort of beef patty and rice. There was also some sort of custard that was similar to cheesecake, but not entirely. It was delicious. We both tried to sleep for a while. Gave up. We got breakfast which was two adorable hash-brown patties, an omelette, and a very undercooked, disease sausage link which neither of us touched. At that point, Lilia started up Day After Tomorrow, and I started Secret Life of Pets … which got interrupted a total of a billion times. I managed to finish SLoP right before they cut off entertainment for landing purposes.
The drive after landing and getting to our gate was probably half the time of our flight. We get another text from T-Mobile. Welcome to China! Your phone has free texting, call 20c/min, and 2g unlimited data! AWESOME!
Immigration was easy, whom also informed us that our connecting flight was in a separate airport, security was easy (they have thermal screening, so that was definitely interesting!), and getting our luggage was SUPER easy. Customs, we had nothing to declare so went through that line no prob, and exited the airport into a throng of people all shouting ‘taxi!’. One guy dogged us for a long time and we eventually rolled with him as the bus to take us to Honquaio was in another hour and we only had four before our other flight. Driving in Shanghai is terrifying. Our driver nearly creamed 2 people on mopeds, and almost hit countless other cars. I never want to drive in Shanghai. As nice as the city was, there was no telltale building style, and all the buildings were insane colors. I saw an apartment complex that was hot pink. OK. We arrive at the airport, to where the cabby swindled us out of a little more money than what we agreed on, but both of us were tired and didn’t care at that point. The line in this airport was about two times longer than YVR, but went quickly enough. Again, getting to our gate was super easy, and we had about an hour of downtime before boarding.
Second flight felt way too short, and they provided us with spaghetti and another of those delicious cluster squares! Hell yeah. I think I played my DS for the entire time, but it was hard to tell since the flight felt super short.
Getting into Japan, immigration was NUTS. The line was insanely long, although it went quickly. Got fingerprinted so if I crime in Japan, they’ll know it was me. Shucks. Too bad I wasn’t planning on anything anyways. We both had our first experience with a Japanese western toilet which I’m now convinced they all have bidets since our hotel toilet has one too. FYI, the seats are very warm when you sit on them, and the one in the airport played gentle music to mask the fact that I had the best racehorse pee in the universe. Sorry, TMI? We get ANOTHER text from T-mobile. HOORAY! Your phone works! Free text, 20c/min call, 2g unlimited data! WHAT?! I wasted $40 on SIM cards before we left, and now we don’t need them! Oh well, lol.
Hitting up the international ATM, my card was declined. WHAT!? I had called my bank, so they should know I’m here! I managed to get the attention of an airport lady who graciously tried helping, but it declined for her too. Lilia was able to get out some cash. What the heck?! We asked the airport lady where the Keikyu line was and if Pasmo was over there, and she instructed us what to do. We thanked her for her time and assistance. Meanwhile, there was another American having the same problem as I. I noticed his card had a chip. Lilia’s didn’t. Ding ding, it’s the chip. We got sodas and some Japanese candy and a fruit cup, got Pasmo’s and went to the station towards Kawasaki - after a little help as we didn’t see our stop.
The train wasn’t too terribly crowded. But, went approximately the speed of a fighter jet. My shoulder and back is still sore for hanging on for dear life while making sure my luggage didn’t go anywhere. There was a lady I kept bumping into and I kept apologizing whenever I did though she just smiled and told me it was OK. There was also a nice man there who watched us to make sure we were OK and whenever another train passed us, make a slight thunking noise, probably had a great internal laugh at my face whenever I had a slight panic about it.
Getting off the station and heading down some steps, there are apparently designated sides which you move. We went down halfway the wrong way, realized, and moved over with our luggage. Sorry! Walking here is definitely interesting. There’s people crossing the streets, not even really looking. I think we saw 1 personal car on our walk to the hotel.
Getting into Noanoa was easy. Manager was SUPER nice, got our luggage taken to the room, and let us stay in the spa room while we waited the last hour before the official check-in time. While there, Lilia opened up her fruit cup, which has jello instead of juice, and I had my candies which were DELICIOUS, and apparently limited time, so guess what I’m buying more of once I get cash? Because Japan is a very cash-heavy type of country.
Our hotel room is a little small, but nothing we can’t handle. I’m sure Lilia feels weird actually being on par or taller than most the people we’ve passed walking to the hotel. We spent half the day exploring the tiny room, seeing what was on TV and being very confused over a child’s show before turning it off. We figured out google translate, and have translated pretty much everything in our room. We still need to figure out the unit on the wall, but we at least know lighting, what the controls are on the bidet, and how to work the mechanical nightmare that is the shower. We put on a Youtube show that we both like, and I crashed just before 7PM after roughly 24 hours of travel and not sleeping. Lilia poked me awake and we officially went to bed around 7PM.
We have not eaten since at least noon on the flight, and it’s going on 14 hours. Yeesh.
Our plans today, as I’m finishing this up around 2PM, is to visit an actual bank so I can hopefully withdraw cash, find somewhere to eat, and hit up a couple parks and museums. There’s also the Keihin Fushimi Inari shine that we’ll probably explore. Today is slotted to be a low-key day as we’re both pretty tired even after sleeping for a solid 12+ hours.
