every day i get more upset that “i think i found the ultimate lifeform / i think it may be you” line (and sonic’s subsequent pondering about it) gets IGNORED they DROPPED THAT SHIT like a HOT POTATO & i understand why because the sonic heroes tone pivot and the amnesia plot but u dont understand im so mentally ill over the concept of shadow completely shedding this massive huge important part of his identity onto sonic before dying and sonic having to grapple with that. what does he do with that. he doesnt want that kind of title or responsibility or idea of himself, hes just a guy who likes adventure. but shadow gave it to him happily. & when shadow comes back and is basically affirmed in his previous assumption that whatever he would do with it, sonic is already doing. only to be met with sonic giving it back to him like “hey buddy thanks for letting me borrow it but i dont want it ;^-^”. what do you mean you don’t want to be the ultimate lifeform? ITS TOO GODDAMN HOT IN THIS GODDAMN HOUSE i need to kill something. U UNDERSTAND RIGHT. U UNDERSTAND.

Can we PLEASE talk about how Gerard CHOSE TO GIVE HIS NAME, HIS STORY, HIS DESTINY, AND GIVE IT TO ELODY even AFTER Rapunzel straight up told him Elody did not fall in love with him because of him but because it was the right thing to do.

Regardless of whether or not this is the truth, the fact that Gerard CHOSE to give what he gave shows that Gerard, despite all his faults, really did love Elody beyond himself.

He's gone on record saying he would have fell in love with her even if she had a spider for a face and now this?

Maybe Elody fell in love with Gerard because he was a frog that needed saving. Maybe she didnt.

Maybe Gerard fell in love with Elody because she could make him human. Maybe he didnt.

We don't really know how their love began but what we do know now for certain is that Gerard truly loves Elody, loves her enough to essentially LET GO of her. Unshackle her from the responsibility of keeping him human.

Listen. Of course they are. Shadowheart has been tasked by her goddess to retrieve the Astral Prism, a Githyanki artifact that Lae’zel is sworn to protect. They try to kill each other at one point.

But that’s not All There Is To It, you feel me? Like that’s not the sole appeal. It’s not even the main appeal.

It’s about them having parallel character arcs. It’s about them being so very different but so fundamentally the same; having their lives stolen from them and molded into the design of an uncaring Goddess. Being a true believer, devout, ready to die for their cause. Only to realize the deception, to feel lost, aimless, without purpose. And having no choice to make their way forward.

It’s about the fact that they’re not *really* enemies, they never were. Rivals, perhaps. At odds at times, certainly. But at the end of it? The conflict between them was built on lies.

It’s about them finding solace in the only other person who knows their struggle; each other. It’s about them learning how to let down their guard and be vulnerable. It’s about them raising Xan together because they’re both free now.
