RE8 Lords (+dimi sisters) Opinion on crocs!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mother Miranda
Tumblr media
The bird mommy herself. A true lady. Gothic aesthetic and all.
I think she would be an avid croc hater
I mean, she works in a lab, closed toe shoes. They’re not very practical for experimentation or any thing else
Plus her other outfit is goddess apparel or old hag.
I just can’t see her enjoying them whatsoever. They clash with her whole vibe.
If offered, Miri would most surely wrinkle her nose and scoff at the very notion.
“Ugh. Begone, mortal. The day you goad me into those atrocities of footwear is the day I surrender my subconscious to the megamycete,” Mother Miranda waves you off with a flick of a taloned hand.
Mia left a pair in the lab once and she tried them on. They remind her.
Salvatore Moreau
Tumblr media
Fish man!
Moreau would be a huge fan.
Seriously, he lives in constant sogginess. A pair of shoes that can fit his deformed and damp feet would be welcome.
He pads around the reservoir in crocs all the fricking time
Over time, the sound of the rubber squelch becomes associated with his approach.
He would be gifted his first pair, but soon amass a bit of a collection- his favorites are the blue pair and the black one, but he’s also got green.
(In the church) *squish squish squish squosh squish* “hi, mother!” Moreau garbles. “Like ‘em?” He asks, gesturing to the tye dye crocs currently adorning the lower half of his slimy body.
He doesn’t wear them in public after Mother Miranda glared at them though
Heisenberg
Tumblr media
Metal bending dilf
My guy isn’t the biggest fan of crocs, they just don’t work for him
The factory is difficult enough to manage in steel toed boots. Rubber slippers are not ideal.
I think he wears them solely to meetings to piss off Mirander (it works every time)
He was approached by his nieces with a pair of solid black crocs, and they were too insistent for him to deny them entirely.
Heisenberg thinks they’re fine, simply not his cup of tea though.
“Fuck!” The lord curses, his voice echoing against the metal walls of the factory for the fiftieth time. “Damn pieces of junk.” Heisenberg mutters after dropping a piece of scrap onto his croc bearing toes once more.
Alcina Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
No.
Just no.
Absolutely not.
Lady Dimitrescu , the countess, the favorite of Mother Miranda, mother of three, would not be caught dead in such apparel.
It’s less that she has an issue with their design, and much more that she’s disgusted with the thought of looking so undignified.
She wouldn’t be threatening anyone when she whips her crocs into sports mode before unsheathing her mighty claws.
Alcina doesn’t mind them on others, but not her. She’s a noble lady and far above such peasantry.
Also they don’t make them in her shoe size.
“What…” she drawls, looking scornfully down at the maiden presenting her with such blatantly hideous shoes, “are those?”
Donna Beneviento
Tumblr media
The dollmaker and illusionist ~
Donna is chill, I’d imagine she wouldn’t have too strong an opinion on crocs
She owns a pair in black and likes to wear them around her workshop
They’re quite comfy, and since she’s not always on her feet, they serve as very nice house slippers
She likes to pair them with fluffy socks to really get the full coziness effect
Besides, her skirt is long enough where they’re not really noticeable
A quiet melody sways within the air of Lady Beneviento’s workspace. Humming to herself as she worked and Angie looked over her shoulder. Dexterous hands wield pliers to work the last bit of wire into the joints of her newest creation. And as a finishing touch, a mini croc is slid onto this doll. A small smile quirks her lips beneath the veil.
“I want some!” Angie shrieks once she sets eyes on the crocs.
Bela Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
The eldest of the flies, and the blondest
Bela follows in her mother’s footsteps on this one, she despises crocs.
She simply doesn’t see the appeal.
They’re rubber, they’re not particularly fashionable, and they clash with the lace of her dress.
Eyeing her sister up and down, Bela just scoffs judgmentally before walking away.
Daniela Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
Our delulu queen <3
She is the biggest crocs person ever.
She absolutely loves them, much to her sister and Mother’s dismay.
Dani just thinks they’re the coolest thing ever
You don’t have to lace them, there’s different modes, and you can decorate them??? What more could you ask for!
She had a whole wardrobe. I think she had every color. Depending on the occasion, she mixes and matches.
Dani is also big on jibbitz.
“Look!” The ginger squeals excitedly as she swarms into a maid’s face. “It’s a fly!” Dani says with a delirious giggle, shoving the new charm into the frightened woman’s vision.
Cassandra Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
The ravenette of the trio
Cassie likes crocs a normal amount
She doesn’t own her own pair of course, the only reason she ever wears them is to snatch them from Dani and make her mad
She also delights in how Bela and her mom glare down at her whenever she wears them
All in all, Cass doesn’t wear them as a fashion choice, she wears them for the drama
“Hehehe, you’re coming with me,” Cassandra whispers to herself as she steals Daniela’s prized flamingo print crocs from her room.
Remember when in the game Ethan goes to the part of the castle where the library is before acquiring the key? Because the first time he walks through the main door downstairs Lady D is seen coming down the stairs and I lose it every time this happens.
Mama is so worried she went up to the library to check on Daniela and to make sure her baby is safe and okay. Like, imagine Lady D walking into the library seeing Daniela there with her head buried in a book not really knowing what’s happening outside. She’s been told to stay put by her mama and sisters and she’s doing just that.
Now Alcina walks in and sees her daughter there. She sighs in relief, sits down next to her for a few minutes before leaving. She locks the iron gate and hides the key in the secret compartment, because mama is not playing any games when it comes to protecting her baby and she sees Ethan in the building where Daniela is—
She uses her claws to chase him away and keep him as far from Daniela is she can. She follows him around because he is not going to lay a finger on her baby.
William Rex Affannato: Painfully ~ Normal Story
 。⋆。˚🦋˚。⋆。
Kate: "William....!"
I followed William to his room.
Kate: "Are you really thinking of leaving this place on your own....?"
William: "Mmhm. There's no point in staying in the castle in this situation."
William answered as lightly as he could as if deciding what he would have for breakfast, while checking a letter he had just received.
Kate: "Then where are you going to go, under such circumstances?"
Tumblr media
William: "There are several safe houses where Ethan and his team are based, so it could be any one of them."
Kate: "Wouldn't it be safer to stay here in the castle? The police can't get into her Majesty's private..."
William: "Not really."
William: "There must be police officers who have the spirit and sense of justice, who would negotiate directly with Her Majesty to judge evil."
William: "If Her Majesty refuses to do so, the royal family will bear the brunt of the criticism."
William: "Besides, it seems that the upper echelons of the police force and the Privy Council have been colluding for quite some time now."
William: "Anyways, I've got arrangements to make."
(That's....)
Kate: "How about finding out who in the Privy Council had that article written and have it corrected?"
Kate: "If you use your abilities, you can find out..."
Tumblr media
William: "I can. But even poisons have a time when they should be effective."
William: "I don't think the Privy Council or Brian are oppressing anyone."
William: "They're just taking one bad guy's evil and putting it on another bad guy, which is me."
William: "There are not enough charges to convict."
(Ngh....)
I sensed that I was arrogant when William explained bluntly.
(To those who have tarnished his resolve by framing him for crimes that William has been judging....)
(Even though he knows)
(The people who wronged William are not evil to him)
I didn't understand it at all, but it made a lot of sense now.
Because that's the William Rex I've seen so far.
At the same time, a terrifying imagination is running through my mind.
Kate: ".....At this rate, even if you were to bear the burden of being a 'butterfly' and be judged by 'justice'..."
Kate: "Is this the worst possible end you were hoping for....?"
I am afraid to even ask that question and the back of my throat trembles.
William: "I don't know. As much as I'd like to see the most brutal destruction possible. I'm a little underwhelmed by the current situation."
William: "If they're going to drag me out and make me die the best death ever, I might as well live up to their expectations."
Next to William, who was smiling happily as if he was planning a trip.
Somehow I try to swallow his words.
William: "Don't look so worried. I won't let them come into this castle. We will not let them destroy the Crown."
Kate: "That's not what I'm worried about...."
William: "If the promised month has passed in my absence, Victor will let you go."
William: "You should have your report ready by then. I'm sure you can do a better job than Brian."
Kate: "I'm not worried about myself....!"
William finished checking the letter and had no other business in this room.
He walked slowly and soothingly toward me standing in the doorway.
Kate: "Not the Crown, not myself. I'm talking about you...."
Kate: "....I'm worried about you."
(I can't wait here thinking that you might meet a sad end somewhere)
Tumblr media
Kate: "If William insists on leaving the castle all by himself...."
Kate: "....I'll follow you too."
William: "I don't think you're smart enough to know what it means to follow me here and now."
(If I follow him, I will be chased by the police too. Same as William)
It meant that I could no longer return to my daily life.
Instead of playing around with love 'like we do now', it meant that we would be offering our lives for the future.
Kate: "....I know."
William: "Hmm? You said you weren't sure whether to stay in the castle or go back to your daily routine, didn't you?"
Kate: "I was. But...."
I looked straight into William's red eyes to shake off my hesitation.
Kate: "If I forsake you here and now. I will surely regret it, I know that much for sure."
William: ".....You've really become beautiful."
William smiled like gentle, spring rain----
William: "But I can't take you with me."
(......Eh?)
He coldly shushed me with a wry smile.
Kate: "But why...?"
This is the first time he has explicitly rejected my will.
I feel as if I suddenly don't know who William is anymore and my head is in turmoil.
Kate: "Why can't you.....just tell me that I'm free to do whatever I like like you did when we went on our mission....?"
William: "Of course, I'd like to say that, you can do whatever you like...."
William: "But I can't let you cross this line."
Kate: "Why....!?"
Tumblr media
William: "Because things will happen that I don't want."
(Things that he doesn't want to happen....)
-----FLASHBACK-----
William: "Of course, I have wishes, that I can't fulfill alone."
William: "If make my wishes come true, then one day something will happen that I don't want."
William: "So I'm choosing not to make it happen."
----FLASHBACK ENDS-----
(I don't know. My head is all messed up like it's all been turned upside down)
Kate: "I give up....if you wanted to see me in trouble, you've seen more than enough of that already.....?"
Kate: "What is is that you don't want? Tell me...."
William: "It will make you unhappy."
Kate: ".....Eh.....?"
The answer was so simple that it rolled into my hand.
Wiiliam: "You may want to be with me, but you won't want a tragic end. Unless you have a strong desire to do so."
Tumblr media
William: "If you stay with me, you must accept my destiny and that will trouble, sadden, and distress you...as you work on your heart."
William: "Helplessness and guilt kill desire. It is a fetter that robs us of our freedom....You know this all too well."
(I do remember......the feeling of helplessness and inability to do anything in the face of a reality that is out of control)
William freed my heart, which had been crushed by these things.
William is someone who wants freedom above all else.
(But)
The more I wish to help him, the more I wish to be there for him....
-----FLASHBACK-----
(It's too painful to have to accept the tragic end of someone you love....)
I was almost caught again in the encumbrance of having to 'accept' my tragic end.
(That's why....?)
...........
Girl's voice: "Also! .....If I recognize your voice on the street, may I give you a flower?...........just one.........if you don't mind?"
William: ".....These words alone are more than enough for me."
............
Victor: "He doesn't ask anything in return. Even if you offer him your love, he won't take it."
-----FLASHBACK ENDS-----
(That's why....no matter how much love you give, you receive nothing in return?)
For William, to allow a 'special' person to love him is a very difficult thing.
Because it will also lead them to take the path of destruction and hence take away their freedom.
(So then, what is William's 'wish' that he is keeping it from being fulfilled?)
An unexpected answer is derived, and my mind goes blank. It is-----
To receive love from someone.
And to live with that special someone until the end.
Kate: ".....Wait....!"
Kate: "Indeed, it may not be possible right now...to accept your destiny without grieving."
Tumblr media
Kate: "But one day....I might be able to live, with you, without being trapped by unacceptable guilt or the helplessness of not being able to change my fate."
Kate: "Won't you take a chance on that possibility.....?"
(Don't you ever think of wanting to live with me too?)
William: "Even if my doom happens to be tomorrow, then?"
Kate: ".......Nn."
William: "You're kind. Kind but stupid......Imagine this. You're standing on a cliff right now."
William: "If you take one step forward, you will be rolling down and hitting the ground."
William: "That's where you are right now."
William: "You now have the option to step back and indulge your desires on the edge of the cliff."
William: "But if you fall down, there is no going back up."
Kate: "Then...why....!"
(If you don't want to be loved, then why)
Kate: "Why did you expose my heart....?"
Kate: "You're the one who made me realize I was attracted to you...."
William: "I want you to be your own master, so that you may listen to your own heart."
William: "As a result, it didn't matter to me whether you love me or leave me."
William: "What you want is your business. I wanted to give you what you wanted as much as I could."
Kate: ".....The 'contradictions' are not always clear."
Kate: "If I am free to do what I want, even the wish to follow you, even to accept being unhappy.....!"
Kate: "It's all my free will....!"
William: "Kate."
William: "It is also my free will to not allow you to be trapped in another cripple. ....Isn't that right?"
Kate: ".....!!"
(....Why are you so selfish)
(Why are you so kind....)
Tumblr media
William: "Kate. I don't want to use my power on you."
William's warm aura, finally vanished.
He was always in a good mood and smiling, but now he has a cold expression on his face, as if he is being forced to do something terribly unpleasant.
In order not to take away my freedom in the future, you take away my freedom now. The expression on his face, as if he is struggling with this contradiction, is the most beautiful expression I have ever seen------
It made me feel like we are the same people.
William: "So will you be quiet and back off?"
(I know what you're thinking. However....)
Kate: "....I don't want to."
(I won't back off)
(Because I love you)
Kate: "Has anyone ever said this before? Other people....besides me."
William: "....In the first place, there is no way for anyone other than the Crown to know my destiny."
William: "My sins, my destiny, I wouldn't let them know."
William: "But knowingly stepping in this far..."
William: "You're the first one."
William looked at me and smiled.
(.... No, I don't want to....!)
I closed my eyes to escape from the blood-red eyes.
I clung to his body to keep him from disappearing as I closed my eyes.
William: ".......Open your eyes, Kate."
Kate: "No...."
Tumblr media
(Because if I open my eyes....)
(You'll go away)
William: ".....Kate."
Kate: "Ah....!?"
As if my body was floating, I felt a soft touch on my back.
I realized that he had pushed me down on the bed and when I struggled to get up, he held me tight.
Kate: "William....No...I....!"
William: ".........."
Kate: ".....William....?"
Suddenly, the silence that had come brought a crushing anxiety.
William: "Kate."
William: "You must never open your eyes."
(Eh....?)
The hand that had been stitched to his back was shaken off, and William's presence was far away.
The strength of the arms that held me, the warmth of the palms of my hands, all disappeared like an illusion and I-----
Kate: "....William!"
I opened my eyes.
William: "....You're a bad girl. I told you 'no'."
The look in his eyes, the one he always had, as he squints lovingly, burns strongly in my eyes.
Tumblr media
William: " 'Don't move until that door opens for the 2nd time' "
The cruel command sounded warm and gentle.
Kate: "Wait..."
(I can't....move my body...!)
As if I was crucified, I couldn't move a single finger.
William: "So long, poor robin."
William: "I wish you all the happiness in the world ahead of you."
At the edge of my vision, I saw him leaving.
Kate: "I don't want that wish. Wait...William, don't go....!!"
I heard the sound of footsteps moving away, and the door opening and closing.
The only thing that still lingered in the room, was the smell of roses.
It gently enveloped me like a nightmare I could not wake up from.
THATS WHAT IM SAYING and totally agree on the plot armor thing. How are you gonna have this mold man come in with is little hand gun and fuck shit up. Like Miranda was supposed to be so strong that all 4 lords together couldn’t take her out. Heisenberg literally created an army to fight her AND THAT STILL PROBABLY WOULDN’T HAVE WORKED. Like she’s strong as hell. And Ethan just repeatedly shoots her?? Because with that logic Ethan should have been dead ten times over, him being mold and all. I’m pretty sure Mother Miranda is a high percentage of pure mold as well (hence her being around for like ever). The farthest he could have possibly gotten would have been Alcina’s boss fight, but even I think that’s generous. (He shouldn’t have walked out of the castle is what I’m saying)
Now if they did something like Nemesis in Resi 3, where he appears repeatedly throughout the game and you have a mini boss fight each time, it would have been better. Like we weaken Miranda each fight to the point where she has no choice but to mutate at the very end in the final fight. Instead we get her mutating as soon as Ethan shows up. That was so lame, it didn’t show just how powerful she really is. There are phases in a boss fight, especially the big bad fight at the end, and there was none.
I WILL FOREVER BE ANGRY THAT CAPCOM WAS SUPER LAZY WITH VILLAGE >:( you build up these super powerful characters, four of which that have literally been HUNTING HUMANS FOR DECADES, and you're gonna tell me they wouldn't know their own weaknesses??? they would just let this mold man come in with a little pew pew and be dead just like that???
i don't care if it would've been harder. i fully believe Ethan should have just tried to escape from the castle through a fucking window or something when he learned Rose wasn't there. like, imagine a scene where all three daughters are chasing him???? and he has to just find a way to throw them off and get out of dodge??? like maybe he can't kill them but he can break open a window to get them away for a bit idk SOMETHING BETTER THAN WHAT WE GOT BECAUSE THEY'RE LITERAL NEARLY INVINCIBLE SERIAL KILLERS
and imagine how creepy it would've been to have Miranda actually show up in her form and stalk him???? to have less and less villagers appear each time he comes back, be it from lycans or Miranda just straight up killing them???? TO BATTLE HER AFTER EACH LORD OR WHATEVER AND SEE JUST HOW POWERFUL SHE REALLY IS ??????
anyways i could go on about this FOREVER. it annoys me so much and i'm still mad about it. i love the game, but come ON. Ethan shouldn't have survived with the way things went and i fully believe he would've found another way out of those situations that wasn't just "pew pew now you're dead hehe" URGH
Ethan Winters! 1, 5, 7, 9 (or anyone else from Res8 if you have no feelings about him)
Let's GO moldman squad! (Also bringing in other people as necessary)
My first impression of them
I...didn't care about Ethan, which I know is very common in the fandom. I was absolutely here for Lady D. If RE8 DIDN'T sell itself on its gothic aesthetic and hot vampire MILF villain, I'd have never been invested. Honestly, I was more interested in the Maiden as a protagonist before...well. RIP.
I will say that I was always...willing to defend Ethan back in the early days (like, the literal day the game launched), when people were really PISSED that he killed Alcina, and that's been an ongoing process where I'm here like "Lads....he's trying to get his daughter back." (I do have a lot of Opinions on how he's written and how the game doesn't always seem to be...aware of what it's doing with its own writing, but, on a broad level, I still agree with that, which is always interesting as an admitted and confessed Wintersberg shipper because I'll get people commenting on my fic talking about how MEAN Ethan's being to Heisenberg and I'm here like "Given that he's trying to get his daughter back and was just IMPALED by this man...and not in a fun, sexy way...I think he's allowed to deck him at least once.") I watched the ending first, just to see how things went, and was absolutely devastated, and since then, I've definitely developed a lot of affection for him on his own.
My favorite ship of them
As mentioned above, Wintersberg.
A quote of them that you remember
"That is not groovy!"
Your least favorite outfit of them
I think that Ethan's outfits look...fine? For the function they do, even though I'd have loved it if they'd made him customizable like Leon and Ashley in the RE4 remake. They're...there, but I'd have loved Ethan running around in gothic finery or as an emo.
One potentially unpopular opinion is that I've never been fond of Lady D's gown, namely because I think that...it's iconic, it works, as a WLW I'm not immune to it, and I think that it was kind of designed to deliberately subvert a lot of stereotypes around vampires and what we think of when we think of a classic Gothic vampire, but also....I've always felt like the in-game timeline doesn't make sense. We're supposed to believe that Miranda took control about a century or so ago, sometime after the Spanish Flu, that Alcina came later, possibly after Moreau, seemingly being the first experiment to be successful by Miranda's standards...presumably around the 30s from the styling, and then the rest came later? When we have portraits of Alcina in Victorian dress in the mansion?
When I was imagining what they were going to do with Alcina when all we had were little clips, I was absolutely imagining her to be at least 16th-17th century, especially since they were clearly going with the pop culture idea of Erzsébet Báthory, with her having a long tenure at the castle, and instead it turns out that she's just...hanging there because Miranda gave it to her? And her vampirism is less than a century old? (The Doylist argument for the portraits is probably "they didn't care"; my Watsonian explanation is "Alcina likes to cosplay in old clothing and pay terrified village artists to paint her so that she can pretend to be older than she is.") But, either way -- her canon costuming is great, and I can see her updating her style over time, but I wish we could have seen her chasing Ethan around in older finery, and I wish, when we saw her wardrobe, we could have seen some other dresses besides identical copies of the same white dress.
In RE 8, imagine all the stress and mental breakdowns teen reader has and her hair just turns… white. I heard that stress can turn one’s hair white and I randomly had that thought
Poor reader, imagine the many of times she was almost shot by the Hound Wolf squad cuz her hair be blending in with the snow and Chris nearly has a heart attack everytime he hears her yelp or whenever Handsome protects reader by taking a bullet or 2
Soldier 1: *is looking through the scope and sees something white and moving from the distance, assumes it’s a Lycan or a rabbit* firing *a loud shot rings out*
(Y/N): *almost gets hit if the bullet didn’t hit a tree next to her and just about at her breaking point* I JUST WANNA FIND MY DAD AND SISTER AND GO HOOOOOME!!! *Handsome gets in the way as he takes a bullet to the shoulder while patting reader’s head*
Chris: CEASE FIRE- (Y/N)?! That you?
(Y/N): *THIS 👌🏽 close to breaking down and got better jokes then Ethan* No, it’s your daughter! 🥲
And Chris probably does know sarcasm but chooses to ignore it and scoops reader in his arms while wrapping his jacket around her cuz it looks warm enough
Oh you mean that when squad looks through their binoculars, they see this person climbing up into Dimitrescu's castle:
Tumblr media
Poor reader is getting shot at by the squad, chased down by monsters, Heisenberg's being a dick, Rose has apparently been chopped up into pieces and Duke was all out of twinkies😭😭😭
And as much as reader tries to put on a brave face, hell she's quaking in her boots. Drowning in anxiety, ready to breakdown any moment, forced to take a shit in the snow while Handsome stood guard because she can't even catch a break from dying then either.
"Handsome, look away." You said, squatting down in the bushes, ready to take a piss after you felt like your bladder was gonna burst. It was already hard peeing in the snow, but with someone standing there- yeah, not an easy job. You're about to relieve yourself when a bullet fires right past your ear. You don't even have time to react before Handsome tackles you down, covering your body with his as bullets are fired.
That's when you finally begin screaming.
Your scream is what makes Chris tell his guys to cease fire. He's wondering if it's you when suddenly you appear out of the bushes, Handsome carrying you over his shoulder while you scream profanities at whoever shot at you.
"Whoever fucking fired at me, while i was going, YOUR MOM'S A HOE AND YOU BETTER FUCKING PRAY TO GOD THAT I DONT FIND YOU OR I WILL BREAK YOUR KNEECAPS!" And Handsome just pats your head to calm you down.
Handsome probably takes her to a nearby abandoned house, and while reader is busy in the bathroom, our cyborg takes care of all the monsters and soldats outside🥰🥰🥰
The Killing Cure (Part 12)
It’s been a hot minute but I’m back from my vacation. I mentioned on my other fic that I just got a new job so updates will still probably be slow as I now have a job on top of art fight, a zine, two other fics, and an original story. So a big thanks to everyone who sticks with this one and for all of the patience.
Out of all of the beings that roam this godforsaken Earth, humans, monsters, mutants...it is Winters. Winters who has been on her mind since she kissed him. She wishes that she could call it an impulse but is it really an impulse if she had been thinking--however loosely--about it for several days before?
She wishes that he would do something to make her irreparably mad. But he doesn’t, he only ever seems to make her feel a sense of comfort. Even now when she is cringing at the sight of herself in a pair of pants, the man stands behind her with a collection of compliments. “You look great.” He promises. “It’s going to take some getting used to, you being dressed down, but it’s nice.”
Nice. He thinks that she looks nice. It is such a simple word, so plain, ordinary. But it means everything to her. Everything when she has felt anything but nice or attractive… “I’ve looked better.” She waves the compliment off. But, by God, it has taken at least some of the edge off of her mild sense of self loathing.
Ethan shrugs. “You just have to get used to streetwear.”
She chances another look in the mirror; she supposes that it isn’t quite so horrible. The shirt is loose and breathable though the linen fabric isn’t as kind on her skin as many of her gowns are. The pants are less comfy, more restrictive than her dresses but are easier to maneuver in without tripping. And she supposes that they don’t look too unflattering on her.
She jerks when Ethan suddenly thumps her hat onto her head. He laughs at her little jolt. “Do not test me, Winters! We have a long journey ahead of us.”
“Just trying to help.” He replies. “I didn’t want you to forget your favorite hat.”
He favorite hate is actually several sizes too big for her and sits draped over a chair. But with an exact replica of it, she decides that the technicalities aren’t worth mentioning. “Are my girls ready?”
“They’re your daughters, you check on them.”
.oOo.
He watches Alcina make her way out of the room. Words and hissed out promises aside, the woman has become increasingly less hostile since she’d kissed him. He smiles to himself, at least he isn’t the most awkward of the two of them anymore. At least, he isn’t alone in his conflicted, affectionate feelings.
She comes back with her daughters in tow; Bela has a grip on her left hand and Cassandra holds the left. Daniela, untethered, zips about, occasionally cutting in front of the other three before falling behind once more. The three of them are bundled up heavily, almost absurdly so. Alcina comes to a stop at the center of the room and Daniela takes the opportunity to lift her off of the ground.
“Daniela…” she grumbles through clenched teeth, “we talked about this…”
The woman cackles and puts her mother back down before bursting into a cloud of flies and rebuilding herself several feet away. Ethan has never seen anyone look less amused than Alcina in that moment. “We’re ready, Ethan.”
A jolt of adrenaline pulses through him, it is once again real. His mission is once again in sight and the dangers are once again going to be pressing. He wonders if Alcina is nervous now that illness has taken the place of a powerful mutation. She is just an ordinary woman with very basic gun skills. She gives no indication of nervousness, regardless of how she feels within.
Having grown used to the warmth of Castle Dimitrescu the cold stikes Ethan’s face as tough tendrils of the aurora borealis have reached down and coiled around his face. His is overcome by shivers, he can only imagine how the fly beasts are handling it. He doesn’t have to imagine it, one look behind him and he knows that they are recoiling. He thinks that he can hear faint crackles.
His speculation becomes knowledge when he sees the panic on Alcina’s face. Without a word of warning, she grabs all three of her daughters and, with more strength than he realized small Alcina has, ushers them back into the warmth of the castle.
Ethan follows her back inside. Her face is twisted in distress and concern, her breathing hastened. “Oh, my poor dears.” She mumbles more to herself than any of the three. “My poor little darlings…” She sandwiches Daniela’s hands between hers. “Winters, you get them some blankets,  now.”
Stress pinches her tone and he elects to ignore the snappiness of her request. She holds Daniela to her chest, letting the woman drink in her body heat.
.oOo.
Were she herself she would be more efficient. She would mostly envelop Daniela until the frost retracts from her skin. Having skipped the test steps and thrown herself headfirst into the frosty outside world, the woman had taken the worst of its merciless frigidness--she is too bold for her own safety.
Alcina holds her so close--feeling the woman’s shivers and shakes--and brushes her hand over her hair.  For once she finds herself thankful for her softness, it gives her an added warmth which she extends to Daniela. She has the urge to squeeze the woman but she must handle her with care, she is so terribly fragile right now.
Ethan comes back with three blankets which he wraps around Bela and Cassandra and then over Daniela’s. “Thank you, Ethan.” She murmurs as she continues to stroke Daniela’s hair. “We will have to see if the Duke will be a gentleman enough to look after my daughters while I’m gone.”
Ethan nods.
“Mother, it’s so cold.” Bela whimpers.
“It hurts.” Cassandra adds.
“I know dears, it’s going to be alright.”
“I think that I’m dying, mother.”
Alcina shakes her head, “no, Daniela. You’re going to be just fine, dear. We’ll get you nice and warm again.” She kisses the top of her head.
“I saw a deer pretty close by, I can get them some warm deer blood.” Ethan offers.
“Yes, Ethan, that would be ideal.”
With only a nod, he makes his way outside again. There is a new fluttering in her belly alongside the anxious tickles. She isn’t sure what to make of these flutters. But she knows where they come from. She watches Ethan through the window, watches him chase the deer down, likely cussing and shouting. She observes and she can’t help but let her mind wander. She barely knows him beyond the very basics. She has mostly tormented the man, mocked him. And yet he is good to her. He is kind to her girls. They aren’t even his own and yet he is fetching meals and warmth for them.
.oOo.
Ethan is completely drained by the time he gets back from his deer hunt. Physically and mentally--he can’t hold it against them, it isn’t the fault of the daughters that they can’t endure the cold. But it is still a setback. Still one more day away from finding Rose. One more day that leads her closer to a heinous sort of death.
He leaves the deer on the table, decidedly the girls can eat it raw and he can fix himself and Alcina a meal. Or perhaps she’d be willing to do the cooking this time. He opens his mouth to call for the daughters but the flies are already gathering. Three identical swarms that take shape.
“Where’s your mother?” He asks at the shaping of Cassandra.
The girl shrugs, “either the kitchen, having a bath, or the bedroom.”
“I’ll check the kitchen.” He knows that she is there before he reaches it. He isn’t exactly sure what she is cooking but she has added what smells like an overabundance of spice.
“What are we cooking?”
“I am cooking soup.” Alcina sets a bowl on the table. “Just a little recipe that Donna showed me.”
“She really loves her spices.”
Alcina shakes her head, “I like spices. Donna cooks her food quite bland. Donna favors simplicity.”
“Your daughters seem like they are recovering well.”
She sighs, “they should be in bed resting.” She clicks her tongue. “I can never get them to rest well. Daniela wakes up and then all three of them are awake.”
Ethan laughs, “sounds about right, kids are just like that no matter how old they get.” He pauses, “do you need rest?”
Alcina thinks for a moment, “I will be fine for now. The medications are working quite sufficiently.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“You sound unhappy.”
“I was hoping to be well on our way to find Rose.” He sees the vexation flash across her face but before she can rave at him he adds, “it’s...fine, it isn’t their fault. Just frustrating circumstances.” This answer seems to placate the woman. She silently continues eating her soup. He has to admit that it isn’t bad at all. Perhaps a little strong for his tastes but he is just thankful that he didn’t have to cook this time. “You don’t seem all too happy either.” He comments after pushing his bowl aside.
Alcina stares into her empty soup bowl. “I’m afraid of losing my girls. Today was a reminder of just how easily it can happen. They’ve been in more danger lately than they have been in, in years…” She stands and beckons for him to follow. Once upon a time, perhaps only a week or so ago, he would have hesitated. This time he trails closely behind her.
“I have a feeling that everyone will be too preoccupied trying to kill us to go after them.” He shrugs. He supposes that that isn’t all too reassuring. He is surprised to see her smile slightly and nod in agreement. There is something comforting about her willingness to die in place of her daughters, to put herself in danger to keep it far away from them. Humanity, he realizes. And he realizes too, that she would have done the same prior to his arrival. Humanity in a woman who, at that point, hadn’t been human in so long.
He watches her climb onto her bed. She gives a rather dramatic sigh and mutters, “I should make sure that my girls are…”
“I can get them into bed.” He doesn’t allow for protest. Rather, he slips out of the room and herds the three of them into their room.
“Do we get another bedtime story, Winters?” Bela asks.
“I wasn’t planning--”
“We need a story to sleep.” Daniela insists. “Mother always reads to us.”
And thus he finds himself suckered into reading them to sleep a second time. Alcina, he finds, has nodded off in his absence and jolts awake at his sudden reappearance. She grumbles something, that he can’t quite catch, about knocking first. “Sorry.” He mouths. Truth  be told, he isn’t sure why he has come back to her room instead of going to the guest bedroom. “They’re all tucked in and read to.”
The smile she gives him this time is much softer than usual, sleepier too. It is pleasant, inviting. He finds himself wondering, again, who she had been before the mutation. What she had been like prior to Mother Miranda. She pats a spot on the bed next to her.
“Thank you for caring for my girls. They can be...difficult to manage when it is just me.”
“You’re…” he feels her weight shift onto him. “You’re welcome.” He chances holding her with his right arm. When she doesn’t jerk away or protest, he strokes her hair, trying to ease her stress away.  He thinks that it is working.
It must be... She said it wouldn’t happen again, he knew that she was lying, he just didn’t expect her to stray from her promise so soon; she kisses his neck. And when she closes her eyes and rests her head against him, her curls tickle his neck. He holds his hand against her cheek--he supposes that he will be spending another night in her company. A night with her in his arms.
The fact that when the sisters are chasing Ethan around, of you also happen to cross paths with Alcina, whichever sister is chasing you makes an excited comment about seeing her go after you as well makes me think about the sisters chasing you playfully.
The castle is large and they like to chase you around and see if you're clever enough to out smart them, and they always try to get Alcina to join in the fun of they pass her.
I just like imagining that when things are okay, when things between the lords and Mother Miranda arent tense and Ethan "I have the worst comebacks in all of resident evil" isnt there, the castle is fun to be in for the girls.
Whether you're involved with them or Alcina they absolutely adore you, and since everyone knows you're in no danger with any of the Dimitrescu's, they have so much fun when you engage with the more demented side of things which is why you all play a high stakes version of hide and seek essentially.
They arent going to hurt you and they know you know that, but chasing you is fun, and they also to see if they can catch you before their mother.
thank you for sending this to me, because i thought i was the only one who thought about playing hide and seek in the castle, i was even writing a fic for that!!
that is so funny, i just imagine like, them swarming you or running after you if they've spotted you. And then Alcina steps out from a close by door and snatches you up, laughing while the daughters wail in anger because THEY ALMOST HAD YOU!!!
Hi! Feel free not to answer if you're busy or don't want to, but I would love to hear your every thought, fact, and/or speculation about the 9ft tall vampire MILF for the new Resident Evil game. From the gif sets, I thought she was the protagonist, but the trailer makes it seem like she's the one trapping the everyman hero in definitely-not-Dracula's-castle Dracula's Castle?
@badass-at-cuddling Oh boy, can you imagine playing the game as a badass 9ft vampire MILF, that would be hella awesome! But even with her being a bad guy I have never felt so bummed that I don’t have a better PC to be able to play Resident Evil: Village, cause Lady Dimitrescu is one heck of a beautiful woman! Honestly, they really animated her so well, even her grin as my girlfriend had pointed out to me is very charming, and those claws she can grow are quite scary and sexy! Well I assume she is the bad guy since she and her daughters are chasing around now veteran everyman hero Ethan Winters and in one of the previews, Lady Dimitrescu had an old sip of blood from his wrist, not exactly good guy stuff! XD
But oh man, before this latest trailer and the internet’s reaction, I wasn’t quite feeling the weird bloodborne vibe of this latest Resident Evil, as it felt a little out of place from what we had before but hey the Resident Evil series has always had some interesting changes that ended up working for them and now it's got me very interested in game now.
Now the question is what clan would Lady Dimitrescu belong to in Vampire the Masquerade? Hmmm... that is the question. She is rather stylish but in a vintage way, and she is a Lady of importance and has a ton of charisma and menace from her grin alone, so she could be either a Toreador or a Ventrue that knows Protan (for the claws) or perhaps a very classy Gangrel or for some extra fun a Tzimisce! (wherever she is a normal Tzimisce or Old Clan Tzimisce depends on what else she can do in the game! :D)
What do you guys think, I’m interested in your thoughts. :)
And Oh man, I’ve had this thought of a Resident Evil/Vampire the Masquerade crossover in my head for over a year now and maybe I should explore it more since I think the two series could go together rather well! XD
Either way I’m very excited for the game to come out and see how it all turns out.
So I beat RE:8
And overall I SUPER enjoyed this game. I loved how it was an homage to the series to date. Castle Dimitrescu made me feel like I was back in the OG Resident Evil stealth-crawling my way through dungeons and puzzles and hoping not to get caught by the enemies. Lady Dimitrescu stalking you as you scramble to gather pieces of a puzzle to escape harkened back to the Tyrant in RE:2 chasing you around RPD HQ. Her daughters’ blow fly entrances were sincerely spine-tingling, and I was on the edge of my seat with each new door opened wondering if they’d found me yet. This level was truly a standout of the game.
The Beneviento House may actually have been my favorite, seeing as it was such a departure from the rest of the game without the use of weapons and having to rely on running and hiding to survive. I was at my most terrified and unsettled in that level dissecting doll!Mia and running from the baby creature in a way I didn’t feel throughout the rest of the game. It was so creepy and so tense, and the juxtaposition with the rest of the game really made it shine imo.
The Reservoir was probably my least favorite part. It felt too much like the action-y RE:6 against the boss, lots of cheap one-hit kill events that relied on timing, etc. It was the part where I died the most, whereas throughout the rest of the game I died maybe twice or three times.
Heisenberg’s factory was pretty scary and adrenaline-inducing fighting those awful chainsaw guys. Hot take: RE:5 was a great game and a lot of this level reminded me of the better parts of that game wrt the enemies and mowing them down. The layout was super cool, the fan guy was hilariously scary stalking you, and Heisenberg was as grandiose (and verbose) as Wesker once was back in the old days. I loved the molding puzzles, how the enemies would tear down walls to open new areas to explore, and the backtracking to explore it all once you had certain items in your possession.
Lastly, the Duke was an awesome character. Thanks for that fun call-back to RE:4′s shopkeeper, and most importantly for being an actual character whose presence was plot-relevant and even integral at times. He was charming and a thoughtful addition to the experience. All the voice acting was incredible, but I think the Duke and Lady Dimitrescu and Mia were standouts.
What I didn’t like... This game has a woman problem like whoa. When all your women exist either as damseled plot devices with no agency whatsoever, vehicles for manpain/revenge, and their main “nuance” is related to motherhood or seeking a mother-daughter relationship (because, you know, women be mothering), then you have a problem. A second hot take: Mia should have been the protagonist. She had training way before Ethan ever did, was in the know more than him, and wasn’t dead the whole time (sidebar: what the literal fuck is this plot contrivance). This game has shown us two kinds of women: either they are good mothers/daughters who eschew all else in favor of that relationship and stay in their lane (Mia and Rose, an agency-less baby and McGuffin), or they are corruptions of that role (i.e., Miranda selfishly killing everyone to get Eve back or Donna selfishly killing everyone to get a new mother a-la RE:7′s Eveline). Even the Dimitrescu ladies were almost entirely defined by their mother/daughter status, in Lady Dimitrescu’s case both. Is there truly no other motivation or nuance available to women in this universe??? 🙃🙃🙃
Mentioned before but worth repeating: Ethan was dead the whole time?! What a shitty contrivance. I mean, fine, but I didn’t like it at all. Another nit-picky thing that broke my suspension of disbelief: Alcina cuts his hand off and the magic herb chemicals that act as health in the game can reattach it... But they can’t regrow his fucking fingers??? What is consistency. 🙃
Heisenberg’s boss fight was dumb. There was no terror, very low stakes, and it felt like the worst of RE:6 action. It even had a gimmicky cinematic final shot that reminded me of those awful quick-time events. He was laughably easy to kill and held none of the dread of, say, Lady Dimitrescu’s daughers or the entirety of the Beneviento House. I don’t knock it as much because the rest of the Factory level was fabulous. The boss fight with the Fan Man was superb, scary, and tough, as well as “good” gimmicky. Unfortunately, Heisenberg’s final boss fight was the beginning of the end.
Chris finally tells us the truth through some truly excruciating exposition scenes, and like the NPCs who question his choices, I too was questioning him. Because his logic was super dumb. Why not tell Ethan to begin with? More on this below.
Mother Miranda was incredibly underwhelming as a boss. Chris’s part in the story was more over the top action, which is cool and fun if you like that (not really my thing, personally, but I can see why it could work for others). But Mother Miranda herself was a disappointment. I think the main reason was because we had almost no relationship with her. She was just a name who maybe is responsible for our McGuffin daughter being taken, but it never felt personal. Yeah, she can shape shift and we met her as the hag, but since we didn’t know that, the relationship aspect was never there/built upon. She felt like a random final boss with little skin in the game compared to, say, Heisenberg, who we actually did get to know more as we went along and maybe felt more complicated feelings toward in killing him.
This game could have been better if a few changes had been made.
1. Mia should have been the protagonist/deuteragonist. If we are truly supposed to be convinced by Chris’ stupid logic that Ethan cannot handle the truth, then why not make Mia the protagonist or even a secondary protagonist? Ethan and Mia could have both been working toward their goals with different information, similar to the situation in RE:7 toward the end of that game. Chris wouldn’t know Mia is alive, but she could be working against Mother Miranda directly while being experimented on/held captive. Ethan could do the main story that we got, while Mia sees a different side of the world digging deeper into Mother Miranda’s backstory and motivations, which would serve to flesh out her character (beyond the lazy corrupted motherhood narrative), touch on the relationship to Spencer and Umbrella Corp, etc. Ethan facing Miranda at the end, thus, would have felt super personal and significant having that emotional development through Mia. And Mia herself could be fleshed out more as a character beyond her role as wife and mother.
2. Bela, Daniela, and Cassandra deserved more, and Castle Dimitrescu should have been a longer arc. The daughters were killed pretty fast. I couldn’t name a single differentiating characteristic between them, which is a problem. And I wanted to know more! We got a little info about the experiments they endured. I wanted to feel like killing at least one of them was very personal and meant something (if we only got one of them really fleshed out, I mean. That would still be one more than we got.). This section could have been longer and benefited from it. Exploring that castle was so fun and I wanted more time there. Also, I’m gonna say it: the Reservoir could have been cut entirely and that time given to Castle Dimitrescu for three sub-bosses before Mother Miranda. Problem solved.
3. Chis could have had a more story-related role. Why not more cutscenes with Chris investigating/chasing Miranda to give us a buildup of breadcrumbs and foreshadowing to the final reveal in the end? Rather than an exposition dump?? This would be related to my point #1 in making Miranda feel more connected to the story as the big bad. We wouldn’t even have to play as Chris if we just got some cutscenes showing his team’s progress hunting Miranda, learning more about her, etc. Imagine if we got secondary protagonist Mia’s story with Chris in there alongside her, unknowing that she’s alive and yet affecting her progress or vice versa as they both hunt Miranda? So much potential there. Where is the fanfiction???
4. Sheva??? I know it’s just me but I mean... The BSAA coming in to help/fuck everything up could have been a great opportunity for a cameo from Sheva to reunite very briefly with Chris (and set up the next one??? When though.). Yeah, I’m RE:5 trash, okay. But she was a great character and I wish we could see her at ALL in any other games even as a cameo.
My final takeaway here is that I enjoyed this game immensely as a total experience. I’m already doing a New Game Plus on the Village of Shadows difficulty, so pray for me. I love the exploration and puzzling aspect, the combat is intense but not overwhelmingly action-y like RE:6 was, and I love the atmosphere of this game. I recommend it to anyone who likes survival horror. It’s not without its faults, and I really wish the RE team would hire some women for their writers’ room, but I’m still very happy with the end result overall.
Since you did Bela, can you do the the two remaining sisters for your prompt ?
Give me a character and I will answer:
Why I like them:
Daniela is the baby of the family and it shows because she's such a brat who doesn't listen to anything or anyone she has no problems arguing with Bela right in front of their mother because she knows that Alcina is not going to say anything about it. She's also different from her sisters and I think this is really what gives her that distinctive personality and you can't just not love that, you know? Like, the girls are vicious hunters and Daniela especially has little impulse control (slashing that maid's face with a knife just because) but she's actually more tame and the weakest hunter out of the three. She has her own hobbies, she'd much rather be reading or looking after her flowers (she takes that very seriously) than go out and hunt. It made her weaker, which is why Alcina locked her up in the library to protect her because while she dotes on her youngest, she knows when things are about to get serious and that's when mama gets all protective. Cassandra- I love how fucking dramatic she is???? Waving that handkerchief is what did it for me I just knew this one is different and I was right. She's a brat, but unlike Daniela she doesn't keep to herself. Bela is appalled by the mess Cassandra caused in the cellars because this is just her brand. Chasing Ethan around going all "rawr" and literally just messing with him? Pure gold. I also live how her dramatic ass makes her flies scream when her mother is nearby just so that Alcina can make an entrance. You can easily tell she's a handful and the fact that their mother chose her to team up with tells you a lot. Alcina literally just lets her play and have fun, but she gets all serious and scolds her when it's needed. Idk but honestly Cassandra is the one who's closest to Alcina and she lives for the drama.
Why I don’t:
Doesn't apply. They're adorable cinnamon rolls who did nothing wrong their whole lives.
Favorite episode (scene if movie):
I loved Daniela arguing with Bela the most because yes this is obviously the baby and she's not afraid to run her mouth.
My favorite is how excited Cassandra gets when her mother is around like girlie is just beaming and literally just bouncing in excitement???? So precious.
Favorite season/movie:
Long live Castle Dimitrescu.
Favorite line:
Daniela: "Ugh! Ow, so mean!" Cassandra: "Look forward to what mother has in store for you."
Favorite outfit:
I think Daniela would rock any crop top. Cassandra in any type of skinny jeans is just too hot for us mortals to handle.
Head Canon
Daniela:
1- She loves her sisters!! She argues with them a lot, and she always feels like they don't take her seriously but she cannot imagine living without them. 2- Despite her personality, she actually doesn't like anything related to horror and gets scared easily. 3- She has an innocent mindset. She doesn't always assume the worst about people, often taking their word at face value which can end her in bad situations because she does fall for these things (its also because she's eager to help) 4- She admires her mother greatly, hoping that one day she can grow up and be just as pretty. 5- She loves pranks and practical jokes! She pulls them on anybody, doesn't matter if its a family member or a staff member. Bored Daniela is going to have her fun one way or another.
Cassandra:
1- She loves souvenirs! Like whether in game or any AU, she's the one who just loves to have a reminder. In the game she literally says that, and she often keeps hair and nails of her victims because hey why not, you know? I think she'd be the same in modern AU like any place they visit Cass is the one raiding these souvenir shops buying heaps of things she doesn't really need. 2- Cassandra is sensitive! And ironically, she's the one who is more guarded (esp with her feelings) so it's not easy to tell. But those who really know her know exactly her fragile her emotions are. 3- She is possessive. What's hers is hers and girlie doesn't like to share anything. 4- She gives off left-handed energy so I will confidently say that she's left handed. 5- She is a big introvert!! She prefers keeping to herself and recharging her social battery at home as opposed to being out all the time. Despite her wild chaotic energy, Cassandra needs her quiet time to find her balance again.
Unpopular opinion:
Daniela actually has more self preservation instincts than her sisters. She's the only sister who runs into hiding when the window is open because she knows she can't fight like that. So she does the right thing (unlike her sisters who just charge in not caring that they're freezing to death) So I really think she's the more sensible one who actually thinks before acting. Cassandra: She-- How do I say this, she enjoys being part of a family? With her especially, she's never alone. Alcina is literally with her, and she talks about calling Bela and she even call out to her sisters. I think this goes back to her being more sensitive which means she's more emotional than the others and really holds her family dear. She's always talking about them and being with them. She literally was never alone during the castle section like Alcina knows which daughter constantly needs her presence and we can all see that. It's just that Cassandra is actually a huge family person but she's good at hiding so only her mom and sisters know about it.
A wish:
;w; can we pls get a dlc with their lives in the castle before Ethan happened.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen:
Nope, been there done that. They still live in my heart though. Canon? I don't know her.
5 words to best describe them:
Daniela: funny - smart - resourceful - spoiled - quick to anger Cassandra: drama queen - sentimental - hunter - sassy - mama's girl
My nickname for them:
Daniela: Dani- baby Cassandra: Cass - Cassie
hellooo~! i was wondering if i could have some EugenexMC fluff, but they are pArenTs! idk, get creative. maybe Eugene is telling their kiddo(s) about the appocalypse, or maybe them having to learn how to correct their child when they mess up. Honestly do whatever you want. TYYY!
i hope you enjoy this, anon! so many ideas popped up in my mind when i read this request, i almost squealed! Eugene might be a bit out of character, but would he actually act the same around his own children? i don’t imagine so
okay this is cliche as fUCK BUT IT’S ADORABLE SO I DONT CARE
“Alright. Dylan, what was the first rule?” Eugene asked the blonde child, giving him an expectant stare. The boy beamed at him, his missing front tooth showing.
“Relax!”
“Good. Charlotte, what’s rule two?”
The girl stopped braiding the strands of your hair in her hands as she put one finger up to her chin. “Um… oh! Be aware of your surroundings!”
Eugene gave her a nod as she smiled, resuming the process of braiding your hair. You watched fondly as Eugene went over the list of rules he created to survive the zombie apocalypse. He had made the list years ago when the both of you were teenagers staying at the high school. After Lawrence had let the zombies in the school, it was only the two of you left. You had tried to make it to the safe zone, but your efforts were in vain. When you and Eugene had finally found it, it had been overrun by the creatures that had ruined your life.
You both travelled around together until you found a safe enough place to stay. It was a cozy home to say the least, but it did unsettle you a bit knowing the fact that a, now dead, family used to live there. After settling in, you both reinforced the home and stayed there. The reinforcements stood strong, and about a year later, you found out that you were pregnant. Eugene was surprised, but happy in the end.
It was a huge shock to both of you when you gave birth to twins. The trouble of dealing with a baby was now doubled, plus you were living in the apocalypse. Eugene was helpful when it came to raising the kids. It almost shocked you how good at parenting he was. It was hard providing for a family of four in the apocalypse, but because of Eugene, you managed.
“Mommy?” You were snapped out of your thoughts as your daughter’s voice went through your ears. She had climbed up onto your lap, staring up into your eyes with her own E/C ones.
“What is it, sweetie?”
“Daddy says it’s time for bed, could you tell me a story?”
“Oh, oh! Me too! Tell me the story, Mommy!” Dylan shouted as he ran over and hugged your arm. You smiled at the children, shaking your son off of you and lifting Charlotte off of your lap.
“How could I say no to that smile? Let’s go get you guys in bed.”
Eugene gave you a heartwarming smile as you made eye contact with him. The two eight-year-olds gripped your hands as you led them to their bedroom. Opening the door, the two let go of your hands and leaped into the queen sized bed that they shared. The twins pulled the covers over themselves as they stared in anticipation. You took a seat at the edge of the bed, Eugene opening the door and leaning against the door frame.
“What story do you guys want me to tell you?” You tilted your head, leaning it against your hand while you gave the children a grin.
“Tell the one with the princess!” Charlotte energetically shouted, her eyes shut tight as she smiled.
“Oh, yeah! The knight is so cool!” Dylan smirked as he thought of the story.
You looked over at Eugene. He was in the same position as before, staring at the three of you with a loving smile. Turning back to face the kids, you began to speak.
“Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess. She had a lovely personality, as all royal maidens often do. Her personality was accompanied by her gorgeous H/C locks and enchanting E/C eyes. She did everything she could for the citizens in her kingdom. All were happy. But, there was something troubling her. Her father had told her that she would have to wed a prince from a neighboring kingdom. She was not in love with this prince, but in order to keep peace between the two kingdoms, she had to marry him. He was a handsome boy, but he had a terrible personality. He didn’t care about his kingdoms people, nor the peace between the two kingdoms and he only wanted to marry the girl for her looks.”
“Unbelievable! He’s so rude…”
“Charlotte, shh…!” Dylan shushed his sister, turning his attention back to his mother.
She continued. “The girl’s father had sent her to the prince’s kingdom six months before the wedding so the two could get to know each other. When the girl arrived, she was not greeted by the prince like she had expected, but was greeted with the prince’s knight. He was very kind to the girl, but was very mysterious and quiet. He led the girl to her room and bid her farewell before leaving her alone in the bedroom. She ran out of the room to chase down the knight, but he was nowhere to be seen.
“As she decided to explore the castle so she could know her way around for the next six months, she had accidentally run into a servant. He quickly apologized to her and began to clean up the mess, but she hurriedly bent down to help him. She asked to know his name, and he introduced himself as Harry. He was shocked at her kindness, and the two quickly became friends. She asked him to introduce her to some of the others around the castle. He agreed, and there she met Zion the joker, Ethan the cook, Judy the maid, Lawrence the butler,  and the mysterious knight from earlier. He would not tell her his name, but he had the most stunning smile she had ever seen. From that day, she told herself that she would learn his name no matter what.”
“He sounds so cool!” Charlotte squealed as she put her hands on her cheeks.
“Of course he is, he’s a knight after all,” Dylan huffed out.
“She spent two months trying to get to know the knight. After a long two months, she had learned that his name was Eugene. She had also learned that he loved music. As the two began to spend time together, the princess soon found herself falling in love with the knight. His personality was as charming as his smile, and he treated her like she deserved to be treated.”
“I wish I had a knight like that!”
“Charlotte, let Mommy finish!”
“After her third month at the castle, the knight had told her that he had fallen in love with her. She told him that she felt the same, but there was a problem. The prince she was supposed to marry was a very jealous man, and he didn’t like his knight falling in love with his soon-to-be wife. He had ordered for the knight to be arrested.”
“That’s totally uncool,” Dylan muttered.
“Yeah, totally,” Charlotte agreed.
“After the knight was thrown into the dungeon, the princess was very sad. She couldn’t live without her knight, so she formed a plan to get him out of the dungeon. She went to go ask her friends for help, and they agreed. As they were about to go help the knight, something terrible happened. The prince had found out about their plan, and he was determined to stop them. The prince drew out his sword, but before he could strike the princess, his father had grabbed onto him wrist. The prince was thrown into the dungeon, and the knight was set free. The king had decided that the marriage was no longer needed to obtain peace in between the two kingdoms, and let the princess go home. Before she left, she asked the charming knight to come with her. He had agreed, and the two went back to her home kingdom. As the princess slept, the knight went to go talk to her father to ask for her hand in marriage. The king agreed, and the next day, the knight proposed to the girl. She was ever-so happy, and graciously accepted. The two had gotten married and became successors to the throne, leading the kingdom and maintaining peace and happiness. Years later, the princess birthed two beautiful children. One boy, and one girl. The knight and princess became wonderful leaders, and lived happily ever after.”
“Gah, he’s so cool! Hey, maybe one day I can charm a girl like he can!” Dylan got up and began to jump on the bed.
“The princess is so kind! I wanna be like her,” Charlotte exclaimed, standing up and joining her brother.
“Hey, you two. Settle down. You need to go to bed now,” you lightly scolded. The twins stopped jumping, slowly getting back under the covers.
“Sorry, mommy,” they chorused.
You let out a light laugh, bending down and giving them each a kiss on the forehead.
“I’ll see you two tomorrow, have a good night.”
Eugene turned off the light as the both of you exited, turning to you and pulling you closer to him.
“I could never ask for anybody else to be the mother of my children, my lovely princess.”
You gave him a quick peck, wrapping your arms around his torso and sighing in content. “And I could never ask for anybody else to be the father of my children, my charming knight.”
We’ve gotten used to the Christmas holiday season beginning around Halloween, but how often has Halloween thriller season begun the week after Labor Day? As the studios and moviemakers have learned, there’s a huge audience for horror. If you are skeptical, look at the grosses for new latest in Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise. Major record-breaking!
For the longest time, producers/studios would grind out assembly-line horror, capitalizing on mindless or copycat sequels of original hits that would make you groan, “Been there, seen it.” But even the usual suspects have come around; and there seems to be a newbie at the game: Blumhouse Productions, which this season could be crowned Prince of Horror.
You might say that horror season began way before Halloween — even in February. That’s when Get Out! (Blumhouse Productions/Universal), featuring Bradley Whitford, Catherine Keener, Allison Williams (TV’s Girls) and young Brit Daniel Kaluuya (TV’s Babylon; upcoming Watership Down mini-series based on Richard Adams novel) hit cineplexes. It wasn’t a cookie-cutter, standard-issue thriller, but smart and well made – and had a sense of humor. It also offered a thoughtful look at the race issues making headlines.
Young Anglo woman (Williams) invites Afro-American young man (Kaluuya) for a meet-the-parents getaway, where he finds the family overly accommodating — an effort to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship. As the weekend progresses, disturbing discoveries come to a head and lead him to a truth he never could have imagined. Something different, yes? And, going even further, it was R-rated. That usually can be the death knell to a film pitched for teens, the catalyst for a film’s opening weekend. They came, whether accompanied by an adult or with fake I.D.s. A film budgeted at a minuscule $5 million has raked in over $175.5 million.
Jeepers Creepers III (Infinity/Screen Media) quickly followed. Set between the first and second film, it was quickly obvious it was in the lesser category. Sergeant Tubbs (Brandon Smith) went about attempting to learn the secrets and identify of Creeper (Jonathan Breck), the monster terrorizes a local farming community. Lovely Trisha (Gina Phillips) was sort of pushed aside for the introduction of Gaylen Brandon (Meg Foster (TVs Pretty Little Liars and Ravenswood), stealing the film, as someone with a history with the Creeper. It didn’t help. Initial audiences were bored, word-of-mouth was a downer. Made for $18 million, it grossed a paltry $2.3 million (JC1 exploded at the box office with sales of $35.7 million). Maybe the gross will rise – a bit – with the DVDs’ December release.
Oscar nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne (Boo!: A Madea Halloween; TV’s Famous in Love, Big Love), Thomas Mann (Kong: Skull Island), and Kurtwood Smith (TV’s That 70s Show) weren’t enough to turn the lack of horror in Amityville: The Awakening (Blumhouse Productions/Dimension/TWC) into a silk purse. After a two-year shelf life, it was comatose (like Belle‘s twin brother) on arrival.
Then Came September
“When you are a kid you think the world revolves around you, that you’ll always be protected, care for. Then, one day: a friend goes missing.” The opening words of It (New Line/Warner Bros./RatPac-Dune Entertainment), the cinema adaptation of the 1990 three-hour mini-series based on Stephen King’s terrifying best-seller, leads audiences on a thrill ride as satisfying as any on a mega coaster. The plot line involves kids of a small town, rumored to be cursed, disappearing in bloody spades. A gang of seven, led by Richie (Finn Wolfhard, Mikie on Stranger Things), united by their horrifying and strange encounters with the evil Pennywise the Clown (Bill Skarsgård), mount their bikes determined to kill “It.” Been there, seen it? But, even with parallels to Stand By Me, The Goonies, and TV’s Stranger Things, it rises to the occasion. Here, though much condensed, it’s all about bonding and the paranormal, but the paranormal’s never been quite like this: Atmosphere (that haunted house; and especially the horrific finale, which even tops David Lean’s in The Third Man), piercing score by Benjamin Wallfisch (Blade Runner 2049, Annabelle: Creation, Hidden Figures), jump-scare sound effects, and, best of all, the brotherly-love kiss to bring back the living dead. Argentine Andy Muschietti (2013 horror thriller Mama) is set to helm the 2019 sequel.
Oddly, with a cast of youngsters, the film’s R-rated for violence and, something you don’t hear often, F words cascading out of the mouths of babes. That hasn’t stopped it from blockbuster status – grossing $179 million in less than two months, ($189.5 million worldwide) on a budget of $35 million.  Reminder: whether pouring cats and dogs or not, on Jackson Street or any other, never look deep into those corner drains!
Happy Death Day (Blumhouse Productions/Universal Pictures) is a dark comedy mystery horror thriller borrowing lavishly from the classic Groundhog Day. On her birthday, teenager Tree (excellent Jessica Rothe) concludes that it will be her last one. That is, IF she can figure out who her killer is. To do that, she relives the day over and over – dying in a different way on each one. No way you’ll snooze, as you get sucked in even before the film begins [You’ll see]. Keep a keen eye on Tree. Christopher Landon (Disturbia, Paranormal Activity) knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. Shooting in New Orleans’ Garden District, home to the streetcar and fabled mansions, adds tons of atmosphere.
In Boo 2: A Madea Halloween (Tyler Perry Company/Lionsgate) Madea, Bam, and Hattie venture to a haunted campground where they end up running for their lives from a boogeyman, goblins, and monsters, goblins, and the boogeyman are unleashed. Perry has an audience for his sometimes amateurish movies that  segue between embarrassing and somewhat funny. He comes up with great ideas and one has to be envious of his multi-talents and following. In his films, he  plays a lot of characters – some, such as Madea, much better than others. Maybe the mistake is in doing it all: writing, directing, and co-producing.  Boo! 2. But the film shot out of the gate October 20 and astonished the industry selling performances out. Budgeted at $25 milion, it has already grossed $35.5 million. Boo! 2 became an instant hit. Budgeted at $25 million, it’s close to exceeding that in just over a week.
Jigsaw (Serendipity Productions/Lionsgate) is the eighth title in the Saw franchise, which became a popular slasher series with face-cringing, spine tingling twists to the serial killer saga and a look at the day’s social mores. Then it ended, until this past weekend when it’s been reborn in hopes of bringing in more moola. As bodies drop everywhere – each with gruesome demise that fit Jigsaw’s style, police find themselves chasing the ghost of a man presumed dead for over a decade (Tobin Bell), and become embroiled in a new cat and mouse game. Is Jiggy/John Kramer back? Is this a copy cat? Or  are they falling into a trap set by another monster? The story is told in such a fast pace that there’s little time for character development. However, it gets props for the show-stopping, head-rolling finale. The film got a knife in its back from critics and moviegoers. One reviewer’s assessment: “Watching Jigsaw is a dumb, ugly waste of energy.”
There Was Another Horror at the Weekend Box Office
Suburbicon (Paramount/Dark Castle/Black Bear Pictures) – It had the cache of George Clooney as director when it premiered at the Venice Film Festival, but was received with a few boos. Conceived by Joel and Ethan Coen (remember their 2016 misfire Hail, Caesar!, about a tough Hollywood studio “fixer”), Clooney (a Hail, Caesar! co-star), and Grant Heslov (co-writer, Matt Damon’s Best Picture Argo), is a racially-charged farce that “draws parallels between the U.S.’ ugly past and the situation today.” Damon, Julianne Moore, and Oscar Isaac, Summer of 1959, are in an Eden to raise a family: an idyllic community with affordable homes and manicured lawns. However, tranquility changes to disturbing reality in the town’s s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence [including flaming Confederate flags]. Come critics went “Huh?” and “Huh!” The often kind Rotten Tomatoes wrote: “It’s A Raisin in the Sun Meets The Donna Reed Show. Only occasionally does an image strike a lyrical blow and yield the creepy effect Clooney is aiming for.” Worse, audiences weren’t camping overnight to be the first at box offices. Maybe it will develop a cult following.
At Home 24/7 Horror and Halloween Fright Fest
Is this not the best time of year to revisit famous Halloween spook with everything from zombies and slashers to séances and lots of screams? There’s so much horror to enjoy spread on the couch with a beer or soda and chips and dip. Can anything top the original Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, Hitch’s Psycho, Kubrick’s The Shining [Where’s Jack? Bring him back!]? Maybe a bit of Poltergeist; or some Stephen King? How about Halloween, The Fog, Christine or anything by John Carpenter, because he knows how to scare your pants off? There’s Wes Craven’s bad ole Freddy in  Nightmare on Elm Street; or the original Saw; contemporary grand guignol of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?; and any season of American Horror Story – because Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck know how to creep you out. Then, there’s family-friendly “horror” in Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein/Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde/The Invisible Man.
3-D is having a much-longer shelf life than expected. For a great at-home theatrical experience, check out the Blu-ray 3-D edition of the edge-of-your-cushioned-seat 1953 blockbuster House of Wax [Warner Home Entertainment, SRP $40]. Vincent Price, so fantastic playing madmen, is perfect casting for demented Professor Henry Jarrod. The Technicolor, pre-digital 3-D two-projector image realignment, and sound track have been meticulously remastered with a 4K scan. Don’t spill your popcorn as you experience one of the most incredible horror flick finales. Beware: You can’t escape the flames!
If your dream is a near lifetime of at-home horror, get 50 Horror  Classics (Mill Creek Entertainment; 3,743 minutes/12 discs; $15.65 on Amazon). The massive set contains some classics – keep in mind the majority are from the 30s and 40s and most, if not all, fall into Public Domain, so they haven’t been remastered: The Ape (Boris Karloff), Bluebeard (John Carradine), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (John Barrymore, Silent), Allan Dwan’s comic romp The Gorilla (Ritz Brothers, Bela Lugosi), William Castle’s The House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price),
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Lon Chaney, Silent), Roger Corman’s  Little Shop of Horrors (Jack Nicholson),  Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, Murnau’s Nosferatu (Max Schreck, Silent), The Phantom of the Opera (Lon Chaney, Silent), and, among numerous others, White Zombie (Lugosi).
Universal Studios’ horror period produced first-rate thrillers. Six have been remastered for Blu-ray for Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection (Universal Home Entertainment; eight discs/710 minutes; $45 on Amazon): James Whale’s  Bride of Frankenstein (Elsa Lancaster, Karloff, Colin Clive) – many feel this sequel surpasses its predecessor, Tod Browning’s Dracula (Lugosi) – note how the mood is set with a lack of score, Whale’s Frankenstein (Karloff, Clive, Mae Clark), The Invisible Man (Claude Rains) – with humor to offset the horror, The Mummy (Karloff), and The Wolfman (Lon Chaney Jr.). There’s bonus material galore, including an alternate Dracula score by Philip Glass, performed by the Kronos Quartet.
(I just thought of this and thought it was funny-)
Lady Dimitrescu: “STUPID MAN THING” *chasing Ethan around the mansion*
You: *tiredly walking out of your room bc of all the yelling * M-mom what’s going on?”
Lady Dimitrescu: *goes full stop* oh my little dragă!! I’m so sorry did I wake you! I’m very sorry!, how about you go to one of your sisters rooms and stay with them for a little while okay? Momma has a little problem she needs to fix!
You: o-oh okay......goodnight mom
Lady Dimitrescu: Goodnight!! *starts going Ethan again*
Lolol yesss, but let me give you this:
Lady Dimitrescu kidnaps you or whatever and takes a liking to this young girl, who is so small (no, vampire mommy, you are very tall) and in dire need of protection, especially since you have no motherly figure in your life, all judging by your appearance (wearing these dirty, baggy boyish clothes). Initially, she wanted to kill you, but there's just something about you, so innocent, naive and polite little thing, not looking her in the eye because you don't want to be rude (but you're actually just scared). It doesn't help that she and her daughters can practically smell your sweet, pure blood, how untainted you are. And when you tell her that you won't tell anyone about her or the daughters if she just let you go, something cracks in her heart. You... leaving? Yeah, that's not going to happen.
You're scared half to death when tall vampire lady suddenly picks you up by your armpits, pulling you up until you were at eye level with her. She calmly tells you that you won't be leaving the castle, and that she will be looking after you now.
Welcome to the family, Y/n.
But wait, there's more!
Imagine that you're Ethan's daughter (and Rose doesn't exist), and it would make sense why he's so hell bent upon finding you if he's a platonic yandere too, right? And Ethan's like going on a murder spree to save you, shooting up humans, monsters or whatever is standing in his path.
So now, it's a constant fight between Vampire Mommy + daughters VS batshit crazy dad who will stop at nothing to get his princess back!
*sigh* if only I could actually travel and live my thoughts...
So, what do you guys think?
