Me in 2016: You know, saying things like "trans rights are human rights" doesn't necessarily mean that person is safe around trans people. In fact, sometimes people still have unchecked bias against trans people, and that can be clouded by them saying that trans rights are human rights. It can prevent them from fully looking into their own preconceptions about cissexism and trans people.
Me in 2023: Oh, thank gd this person said "trans rights are human rights," I was worried they also abhorred trans people

While I'm on the subject of plotting and Doctor Who, you know who was great at plot? Steven Moffat. The man is the master of the well-constructed plot, the shorter the story, the better. A multi-series show can go off the rails as he trails off in a million different directions. A full series of a show can have its rough patches and wind up unbalanced. But an individual episode? A masterpiece you could use to teach writing courses. A 4-8 minute minisode? One of the most beautifully constructed gems you've ever seen in your life. His plots are full of intricate internal logic and drawn from character and can highlight some of the loveliest themes because they're built on such a strong framework.
I think a big reason he's so good at plot is that he's a comedy writer. Comedy is nothing but set-up and payoff. Set up a situation. Pay it off in a surprising way. And the link between those two is character. If you set up that Character A has a certain personality trait, then when they encounter a new situation, you have them act according to that personality trait, and all sorts of funny things can result. The payoff makes sense because it was set up. That's also the gift of the running gag. If you mention something in the early part of the story, you can pass over it as useless information. Or as a minor joke that's over now. But at the end of the story, that seemingly minor piece can come back and resolve the whole thing, and it works because it was set up.
A great example of joke-turned-plot is "The Girl in the Fireplace." Plot: A spaceship is linked via a portal in time to 1700s France. The Doctor wanders back and forth between the past and the future. Later on, we see that a horse from the past has also wandered through the portal, and is now on the spaceship. Haha, silly gag, horse on a spaceship, good joke. But later, the portal closes, and the Doctor's trapped on the spaceship while people in the past are going to die. If only he had something large enough to break through. Surprise! He bursts through the barrier on a horse! The same horse from the gag! The joke was the setup for a plot payoff! And there's tons of that kind of thing in his work, plot hidden in jokes and jokes secretly building plot, and lots of plots that aren't about the jokes but always follow that rule of set-up and payoff.
There's just something so satisfying about a puzzle whose pieces all fit together. About a story that's well balanced. Character's great--and he's great at them--but there's something extra special about seeing them in a masterfully constructed plot. And it's been a long time since I've come across a plot that was as satisfying as his could be.

in the light of the recent situation or whatever you want to call it with mingi and that anime, i'm pausing my writing for him for at least a little bit. i understand a lot of people think his name has been "cleared" on this topic, but after doing my own research and trying to understand the fancall myself, i'm deciding to air on the side of caution. unless you have helpful and creditable information or want to have a civil/productive convo about it, let's not talk about it because i don't have the emotional space for anything that's not civil and willing to come to an understanding of my point of view (as i want to be civil and am willing to understand other people's points of view). some more detail in the tags :)

Aro culture is getting pissed off at the fact that the person you want to be with in a queerplatonic way cannot reciprocate properly and prioritizes their romantic relationship with some girl instead
honestly had to debate if i wanted to post this.
it is never the fault of another for not reciprocating feelings. additionally, "some girl" is... hm. i do not like blaming someone for someone else being attracted to them.
if you are upset, angry, grieving what could have been - please name those feelings and own them. "I feel upset that a person I am attracted to is not mutually attracted to me. This is not their fault. Additionally, it is no one's fault for my qp interest having a romantic interest in someone else. I cannot control what others feel, nor what I feel, but I can chose how I respond to these emotions. I can respect that this person is not attracted to me, the same way I would like someone to respond to me if they were romantically attracted to me and I did not reciprocate this. I will find ways to cope with my upset, such as ripping paper, writing down my feelings, and doing things I enjoy."
i understand that this probably sucked, but i strongly suggest not working through negative emotions by sending an angry submission to a public blog. there's a difference between venting that a situation feels like it's stacked against you and blaming others for how they feel. this crosses that line.

Is this a sideblog by chance?
Indeed it is. It used to be used as a primary blog, and I did intend to use it with at least some purpose even after I shifted my attention, but now it's just kinda mindless spam/things I find cool but don't have the spoons or words to give more attention to.

seeing some controversy over Lando and him racing this weekend. Lando is an adult, he knows when he can and can't race and if he feels up to it then that's his decision. Yes it's Monaco that requires a lot of focus and concentration but he's probably already thought about that. If McLaren think it's too risky for him to race, they won't let him and they will not force him to even if he is still not right and risk his health (andreas literally said this last week).
if Lando chooses to race this weekend which seems likely, don't start screaming and shouting at McLaren because they have probably taken every step necessary to make sure he is okay to race and Lando himself wouldn't risk putting himself or anyone else in danger by racing when he isn't fit enough, especially in monaco. Him potentially not doing media duties (we'll have to see tomorrow what happens there) gives him more time to rest and be ready for the sessions and is probably precautionary to make sure he can take part.
when it comes to the reserve driver scenario, Oscar will not be their first option. Alpine offered him to McLaren but McLaren kindly said thank you and never mentioned it again. they have their own agreement with Mercedes which would be the safest bet but i don't see this being the route this weekend goes.
as a whole, don't think you know more than the doctors that have been keeping an eye on him and most likely cleared him to race. if there was a risk to him taking part this weekend, he wouldn't be allowed in the car ... simple as that.

Any thoughts on Rio's neighbor and her bebeanied gf???
Ooh! So I don't have a huge amount of thoughts about rio's neighbour (other than decent decor) who we (assumedly? 👀) never meet, but I'm obsessed with the gf!
The way riostopher in 3b is such an afterthought of a prospect for Beth to her is v amusing 😂 I choose to believe she thinks him EXTREMELY dull. Consider that she's a person hanging out inside wearing a beanie, and he's the patron idiot of hat choices, and yet he's still barely registered to her!! Outstanding writing/costuming choice 👌
PLUS the way that she's like 🤷🏼‍♀️😇 oh I don't even know if the building has a super, this is my gf's place, I'm just hanging out here by myself modelling my hats, BUT I can name everyone in the building yes and I CAN advise you on how best to break in to bits of it 😈 ddfghjjj like WHAT!
Obsessed with the level of chaos she's bringing, and how unfazed she is by Beth's story, and now in fact I'm wondering if SHE was also on a break in mission for her own random stalking side quest which Beth interrupted?! 👀 Maybe the gf was actually idk Diane or gale or ooh maybe that place is Judith's pied-à-terre?! 👀👀👀👀👀👀

Will Emilio have a redemption arc? Or it already happened in the latest chapter?
Sort of?
Anyway, the only thing I can say for now is that Emilio's arc hasn't finished yet and you'll see more of his "bad side" again quite soon. And I already mentioned that Emilio's arc finishes by the moment when Valerio's past is revealed, so I just want to say that both Emilio and Valerio will learn a good lesson then.
