The Subcategories of Fantasy
Tumblr media
As an author who loves Fantasy, I wanted to help my fellow writers understand all of the different elements that fantasy can fall under, ranging from the well-known to the specific. I figured that doing so could help other writers like myself understand exactly what sort of story they’re writing, and how these stories differ from one another. I’ll also be giving examples of these types of stories, as well as my own thoughts on the different genres at the end.
Tumblr media
What is Fantasy?
Fantasy in its simplest term, is any form of media that diverges from the mundane reality of our ordinary everyday world in one facet or another. A story does not need to have magic, or dragons, or princesses to be called a fantasy story. While those are common motifs, in truth, all it takes to be considered fantasy is to not adhere to the real world in one form or another. Good Omens is a fantasy story, despite having no dragons or princesses anywhere. A Song of Ice and Fire has dragons and princesses, but magic is scarce and seldom ever seen. The Song of the Sea has a lot of magic, but a lot fewer dragons.
Tumblr media
MEDIEVAL FANTASY
The story takes place in a fantastical world of the author’s design with a medieval or renaissance inspired setting, world view, and/or political structure. Renaissance Fantasy doesn’t really tend to exist on its own, so any setting with Renaissance aspects tends to just get lumped in with Medieval Fantasy. I don’t even really need to explain this one to you. It’s the most common subgenre of fantasy. A medieval fantasy does not have to be set in the real medieval period of Earth’s history, but rather, a medieval fantasy is any story set in a fantastical world that makes use of a medieval-based society as its setting.
Tumblr media
HISTORICAL FANTASY
This is a story in which fantastical elements are included in real world historical settings. This is any historical setting where there’s a King of England but also a dragon or trolls to deal with. There’s almost this sort of unspoken rule that any story set in Ancient Greece will inevitably be Historical Fantasy. Arthurian Fantasy, Mythology Fantasy, and Fable Fantasy could all be considered subcategories of Historical Fantasy, since most instances of these genres would be classified as Historical Fantasy, though there are exceptions. As an example, Once Upon a Time and the Fables comics series are both Fable Fantasies, but are not Historical Fantasy. Likewise, Rick Riordian’s Percy Jackson-verse is clearly Mythology Fantasy, but is not Historical Fantasy. Classic examples of Historical Fantasy would include tales like Beowulf, The Journey to the West, and Robin Hood. It’s worth mentioning that technically, a story is not Historical Fantasy if it’s set in the era it was written in. However, the Illiad was set in Mycenaean Greece, Robin Hood’s rivalry with Prince John was a later addition to the folklore, and most Arthurian mythos was penned long after the supposed real world figure might have lived and died. But, any story set in a contemporary modernity, such as Percy Jackson, will eventually become Historical Fiction as time moves forward, though it clearly was not written to be that way.
Tumblr media
MYTHOLOGY FANTASY
Angels, Demons, Gods, the Underworld, mythological heroes, this is a supercategory that encompasses everything from The Chronicles of Narnia to Supernatural, as well as Good Omens, American Gods, Sandman, Rise of the Guardians, Percy Jackson, Paradise Lost, Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, Smite: Battleground of the Gods, Teen Titans, Dante’s Inferno, and Lore Olympus. Some people get squeemish about lumping Judeo-Christian ideologies in with Mythology (even though it is a mythology) such that the Christian sub-category sometimes gets called Religious Fantasy or Bible Fantasy. But regardless, this is the category for any sort of fantastical work in which supernatural forces are at work. Some divide this section differently. For instance, some will say that since faeries are part of Irish mythology that faeries count as part of mythology fantasy, while others will argue that this is more for the religious aspect of fantasy, with things like vampires and faeries relegated to a subcategory of more generic fantasy creatures.
Tumblr media
ARTHURIAN FANTASY
The story revolves around Arthurian mythos. Whether it’s set in the real world of Britain, a fantasy counterpart to Britain, or in some author-created setting, King Arthur is still King Arthur. Sometimes, though very rarely, Arthurian stories have little to no magic, fusing this subgenre with Historical Fiction and not Historical Fantasy. While Arthurian mythos has evolved over the years, the big players are practically household names. Most people are unfamiliar with Sir Galehaut and Sir Dinadin, but almost everyone recognizes Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Merlin, and all the other big players in Arthurian folklore. However, Arthurian myth effectively spans the entire breadth of the Medieval Period, first being mentioned in the Annaels Cambriae which places Arthur in 6th Century Britain, and his stories continued to be written until Le Mort d’Arthur in 1485. Keep in mind, the Medieval Period is from 476 - 1500, and Arthurian mythos spans about 800-900 of those 1,024 years. Due to his story spanning so much time, many elements of Arthur’s story have been forgotten or quietly put aside over time. Try to tell someone that Arthur put every newborn born in the month of may on a boat and sank it to prevent the prophecy of Mordred from coming true, and you’ll probably get a bunch of horrified looks from people who swear up and down that the Good King Arthur would never do anything so cruel. Even other elements shifted around. Ask who mordred’s parents are, and you could argue Arthur, Morgan le Fey, Morgause, Anna, King Lot, and more. Depending on how deep down the rabbit hole you’re willing to go, you can read stories of King Arthur fighting his nephew Oberon for control of Fairyland. Arthurian mythos, like mythology fantasy, tends to get the curbside drive-by approach. People repeat the elements they’ve heard a million times, while never dusting off any of the lesser known elements that would give the story a breath of fresh air.
Tumblr media
FABLE FANTASY
Technically, all Arthurian Fantasy falls under this umbrella. Fable Fantasy is the genre term for fantasy based on fables, folk tales, and folkloric figures. Robin Hood, Reynard the Fox, Fairy Tales, Mother Goose, Baba Yaga, if it has persisted through generations of storytelling, and has had a lasting impact on the cultures that know the story, it can be considered a Fable Fantasy. Any story that pulls from these elements can likewise be considered Fable Fantasy because they are pulling from these fabled origins. So, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast is a Fable Fantasy... unless the storytelling has twisted the story so much that it’s no longer in the Fantasy genre. For more variations of this genre, well-known pop culture characters, much like Robin Hood and Fairytale characters, can be considered Fable Fantasy. So, Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, Santa Claus, the Grim Reaper, Peter Pan, the Phantom of the Opera, the Wizard of Oz, and other commonly retold folk characters can be thought of as more contemporary Fable fantasies. As such, both Wicked and The Phantom of the Opera can be considered Fable Fantasy musicals, as well as the more obvious Into the Woods. Once Upon a Time and the Fable comic series are both modern Fable Fantasy stories. Not all Fable Fantasy narratives are retellings of classic folktales. Peter Rabbit, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and The Wizard of Oz have all become widely considered folkloric staples, despite being written in the 19th and 20th centuries. Over the Garden Wall, a Cartoon Network miniseries from 2014, is considered to be a modern fairy tale, despite not being an adaptation of any other story, but instead using the tropes and ideas common to traditional old-school fairy tales. When they enter the public domain, I suspect that Dr. Seuss’ characters will likewise be effectively Fable Fantasy, well-known characters that see use and reuse over and over again in other media. Shrek and Disenchantment take a satirical approach to Fable Fantasy, poking fun of Disney and other fairytale narratives and tropes.
Tumblr media
HISTORICAL ROMANTICISM
This setting often goes hand-in-hand with Arthurian Fantasy and Fairy Tales. This is any story that romanticizes and glorifies life in a historical setting. Popular variants include Medieval Romanticism, stories which romanticize medieval settings, Victorian Romanticism or Edwardian Romanticism, for stories that romanticize the time period between 1837-1913, and Period Romanticism, which is more of a blanket term that glorifies the eras popular with Period movies, namely, the 19th century, but sometimes earlier as well. Full of handsome princes, fair damsels, large palace-like castles, and knightly codes of honor, historically inaccurrate period gowns, debutante balls, and steamy Jane Austen-style love affairs, this story paints the past with the most optimistic and flattering image possible. Everything is flowery, poetic, and awe-inspiring. This is the type of setting Sansa Stark thought she was in at the start of A Game of Thrones before G.R.R Martin pulled the rug out from under her and revealed Westeros to be a Cynical Low Fantasy. By the very virtue of the company’s child-friendly marketing, Most Disney movies, and by extension, most movies set in the past aimed at children can likewise be categorized as Historical Romanticism, as they brush the darker side of history under the rug. The Princess Bride, Bridgerton, Don Bluth’s Anastasia, and most versions of Robin Hood and Arthurian mythos fall into this category. For contrast, Downton Abbey is not Edwardian Romanticism even though it tries to make life in the 1910s look glamorous, it’s also not afraid to blatantly point out the economic and socio-political issues that were going in in the world at the time. Downton Abbey does not sugar coat the darker side of history, and can therefore not be considered Historical Romanticism.
Tumblr media
HISTORICAL CYNICISM
The exact opposite, Historical Cynicism is the name I give to settings that use the trope “The Dung Ages”. Like Historical Romanticism, the most popular variant of this category is Medieval Cynicism. These settings seek to make life in historical time periods look as miserable and depressing as possible. They are designed to make life seem bleak, undesirable, and disgusting. Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Disenchantment take a comedic approach to this, while A Song of Ice and Fire gives a more Epic Fantasy take. Sweeney Todd makes life in Victorian London look positively putrid, and that’s without the cannibalism subplot. The Witcher games seem to merge Medieval Cynicism with Dark Fantasy and Horror Fantasy. This subgenre hinges on Dark Fantasy, but the two are distinct from one another. Expect plenty of plagues, muted color pallets, a cruel aristocracy that enjoys crushing the lower classes under its heel, and mud or dung on everything.
Tumblr media
HIGH FANTASY
Magic and fantastical elements are abound in this setting. Expect wizards, dragons, fantastical races, and more. Very frequently overlaps with Epic Fantasy, though they are different. The Lord of the Rings is classic High Fantasy. Most Dungeons & Dragons settings are also High Fantasy, as is The Legend of Zelda. Avatar: the Last Airbender is a High Fantasy Wuxia show, though Legend of Korra veers more toward Historical Fantasy, Steampunk, and Magitech Fantasy with its 1920s Shanghai meets New York City hub location of Republic City. The Elder Scrolls is also a High Fantasy, with plenty of elven races, the Beast Races, and star signs that actually impact those born under them. Each province has its own sort of vibe or subgenre, with High Rock being more Medieval Romanticism while Skyrim is more Dark Fantasy or Medieval Cynicism, but as a whole, Tamriel falls under the High Fantasy umbrella.
Tumblr media
LOW FANTASY
A medieval setting where magic and fantastical elements are rare, if not nonexistent. A Song of Ice and Fire is an excellent example. Magic is real and does exist, but it only rarely comes into play. Magic is extremely scarce, and most people one might meet are humans. Even the sight of someone casting the simplest spell is so rare in Westeros that it’s practically unheard of, and the few supernatural elements that do exist in the setting live far out into the wilderness, rarely being seen by people. It’s quite rare to find completely fictional fantasy settings with no magic whatsoever, but they do exist.
Tumblr media
EPIC FANTASY
This is any fantasy story on an epic scale. I’m talking well over 50+ named characters. A Song of Ice and Fire, The Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, all of these are Epic Fantasy. Yes, these stories usually end up with long book series and a lot of words behind them, but I am defining a genre, not a reading level. Epic Fantasy is about scope, not page length. Common sights in Epic Fantasy are grand battles, multiple POVs, world-spanning events, extremely high stakes, very powerful players in the narrative, and The Final Battle Between Good and Evil.
Tumblr media
QUEST FANTASY
Any fantasy work which is primarily driven by The Epic Quest. Often overlaps with Chosen One narratives. Lord of the Rings, Eragon, The Legend of Zelda, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and the Percy Jackson books are all examples of Quest Fantasy. The bulk of the narrative is centered on The Journey and the trouble the heroes run into along the way, or are otherwise all about The Adventure, not the destination. Our band of heroes have a goal given to them and the story is focused on following the heroes on their journey. However, this is not strictly a Chosen One category. The Legend of Korra is a Chosen One Fantasy, but is not a Quest Fantasy because Korra’s main objective changes every season. Percy Jackson toes the line due to the Oracle’s prophecies, but I wouldn’t call him a Chosen One because his birth wasn’t written in the stars or anything. He just happens to be a child of Poseidon and at the center of the story. If you switched him out for Nico di Angelo or Jason Grace, the story is still functional. In Lord of the Rings, Aragorn is the True King, but Frodo is the protagonist, so I wouldn’t call Lord of the Rings a Chosen One Fantasy either. This can also tip into other genres. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a Quest Fantasy. The entire premise of the movie is Arthur and his knights questing for the Holy Grail. Likewise, The Princess Bride is all about Wesley’s quest to rescue Princess Buttercup from Prince Humperdink. Treasure Planet is a steampunk quest fantasy telling the story of Jim’s search for Flint’s treasure, where the journey there is the bulk of the story. Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas is a quest fantasy with elements of Historical Fantasy and Mythology Fantasy all about Sinbad’s perilous voyage to the edge of the world to save his friend’s life.
Tumblr media
DARK FANTASY
It’s like normal Fantasy, but bleaker and darker. The Witcher and Skyrim are good examples of Dark Fantasy, where monsters roam the wilderness, and people live in fear of the unknown beyond the safety of their villages. The general tone is more cynical, desolate, or hopeless. Some Dark Fantasy is more about just being gloomy or creepy. The movies Labyrinth and Dark Crystal are two good examples of a Dark Fantasy that’s less bleak as they are weird, yet still dark. The Black Cauldron is a perfect example of a Dark Fantasy with a dreary and macabre aesthetic paired with a genuinely horrifying necromancer villain. Pan’s Labyrinth is another good example of a Dark Fantasy. Over the Garden Wall and A Tale so Dark and Grimm are both Dark Fantasy stories as well as Fable Fantasies, reveling in the darker aspects of Grimm fairy tales.
Tumblr media
HORROR FANTASY
It’s like Dark Fantasy, but scarier. Expect there to be horrifying monsters unlike any seen on earth. Your protagonist is probably either hunting or being hunted by something horrible. Either a monster is trying to kill them, the world is trying to kill them, the gods or demons are trying to kill them, or magic is trying to kill them. Again, The Witcher is a great example of Horror Fantasy. Geralt is a hunter of monsters, and often fights things like Werewolves, ghouls, wraiths, and lesheys. Red Riding Hood (2011) is a great example of a vaguely medieval Horror Fantasy. Depending on where you stop the line at what’s horror, what’s fantasy, and what’s Horror Fantasy, you could justify just about anything as Horror Fantasy. From The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with its undead Draugr and vampire clans, to Resident Evil VII with its vampires, or even certain Scooby-Doo! media (though Scooby-Doo! is certainly on the mild end of horror.)
Tumblr media
PARANORMAL FANTASY
Unlike Dark Fantasy or Horror Fantasy, Paranormal Fantasy takes horror elements and spins them to be more romantic. This is where you’d slot in romantic or atmospheric ghost stories. Tales of witches and vampires in a macabre setting where they’re not the villains. The Addams Family fits the Paranormal Fantasy, as does Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow, The Phantom of the Opera, Hotel Transylvania, most Scooby-Doo! media, Beetlejuice, the Halloweentown movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or Hocus Pocus. Basically, if it could be a child-friendly Halloween story, or was made by Tim Burton, it’s probably Gothic Fantasy. I guess you could also call this Monster Fantasy, Gothic Fantasy, or Spooky Fantasy.
Tumblr media
CONTMPORARY FANTASY
The setting is medieval with castles and princesses, but there’ll also be modern conveniences or nods to pop culture in the land and setting. Dave the Barbarian is a good example of this. The royal family are all barbarians (which basically just means vague warriors that wear fur loincloths), but then they also have malls, and Dave made a megaphone out of a squirrel, some string, and a megaphone. Shrek does this too, especially in Far Far Away with nods to Starbucks and Burger King, among other modern franchises. Disenchantment also uses this as a basis for comedy. Typically, Contemporary Fantasy only uses modern conveniences in a medieval setting as more or less sight gags, punchlines, or to poke fun of corporations and consumerism. These are also the fantasy stories most likely to reexamine tropes and shine a critical light on the genre, whether by showing the farm-boy turned king being royally inept, the mental issues caused by locking the princess in a tower for years of her life, or how quickly princesses married the first man that came along without so much as a conversation beforehand.
Tumblr media
URBAN FANTASY
The wizard has a smartphone, the prince has a Grindr, and the city watch patrol the streets on motorcycles. A standard fantasy world has come to the modern age, with skyscrapers, internet, cars, and cellphones. The familiar world gives the audience a firmer foot to ground themselves in this sort of story, compared to something set in the past, but it has its own hurdles. Namely, a modern world still needs a rich history. You also need a story that can’t be solved with a gun and an internet connection. Urban Fantasy is a very broad genre, from Hidden World Fantasy like Percy Jackson or Harry Potter, to Merged World Fantasy like RWBY. There’s also some head scratchers like the Warriors Cats books. It’s definitely Urban Fantasy. A cat society living in the forest is a fantasy, and the story is set in our modern contemporary world. But labeling the series beyond Urban Fantasy is where it gets tricky. Isekai borders on Urban Fantasy, as the magical overlaps with the modern world. The Magic Treehouse and the Arthur Spiderwick Chronicles are two great examples of Urban Fantasy in children’s literature. Goosebumps is Urban Horror Fantasy.
Tumblr media
ISEKAI FANTASY
These are stories in which an ordinary human (or group of humans) are transported to another world in order to learn a lesson, grow, and come back home wiser, stronger, and ready to face the problems they ran away from. The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan and Wendy, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, as well as movies like Stardust, Coraline, and Spirited Away, or TV shows like Over the Garden Wall, The Owl House, and Amphibia are all prime examples of this type of story. The Chronicles of Narnia is an excellent example because as the series goes on, the older Pevensee children stop needing to go back to Narnia. By Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Peter and Susan have learned all they need to from the other world, and don’t go back, leaving only Edmund and Lucy to go with their cousin instead. Because their arcs are over, they have no reason to return.
Tumblr media
ROMANCE FANTASY
It’s a romance novel with supernatural elements. Usually, it’s a human falling in love with something inhuman, which we often call Paranormal Romance. However, this can also include stories of a fairy falling in love with a dwarf, so there’s a wider net here. This isn’t just a story with a romantic subplot, this is your Romeo and Juliet type love stories. Your Beauty and the Beast retellings. The romance is the main plot, and the supernatural elements simply make the romance more exciting or the problems of the couple more entangled in cultural baggage. Obviously, Twilight is a popular example, as is The Cruel Prince, The Captive Prince, and Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay.
Tumblr media
MAGITECH FANTASY
This is when a fantasy setting has magic-powered  technology. The guardians and Divine Beasts from Breath of the Wild are a fantastic example of Magitech in a medieval fantasy setting, as are the steam-powered automatons of the Dwemmer in The Elder Scrolls. The Legend of Korra sort of fits here. The world of Avatar has advanced to include airplanes, cars, and radios, none of which are powered directly by bending, but benders do work in power plants, performing lightning bending to generate electricity. It’s certainly a middle ground between steampunk and magitech fantasy. However, the world doesn’t have to necessarily include technology, any setting where magic is a power source for anything can work. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is a great example of Magitech Fantasy. Eco is a natural magical resource that give magical powers and effects. So, having doors that open when exposed to the electrical energy of blue eco makes sense. And while it’s never stated, Jak II has many automatic doors in Haven City that may very well run on an electric power grid fueled by blue eco veins. But eco largely gets dropped in the sequel games in favor of guns, though the guns themselves may actually be powered by eco as well. So it’s hard to say. RWBY surprisingly fits into Magitech Fantasy. Like Eco, Dust is a magical natural resource that can be used to create magical effects. The world is full of airships, shape-changing weapons, bullets and other weapons being infused with dust to give them magical effects, and Penny, a definitely real girl.
Tumblr media
GASLAMP FANTASY
This is what happens when Steampunk has just enough fantasy elements to land in the Fantasy section. Gaslamp Fantasy is any fantasy story set in the era of gaslamps, while still incorporating fantastical elements. Dracula, Springheel Jack, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Sherlock Holmes vs Dracula, basically, as long as it’s set in a Victorian setting and has supernatural elements, it counts as Gaslamp Fantasy. However, it’s definitely one of the less popular subgeneres, and I couldn’t really name any others.
Tumblr media
WUXIA
A fantasy setting that focuses more on East Asian history, folklore, and mythology to craft its setting. Wuxia is a broad term, including everything from Spirited Away to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Dragonball. However, often times in fantasy, European-inspired regions are complicated and diverse, while Asian-inspired regions are homogenizing, if not orientalist. We can differentiate Irish, Scottish, and Welsh folklore from English, but somehow, not treating all Asian cultures like they’re the same is too taxing for some writers. So, if you’re going to tackle writing Wuxia Fantasy, do your homework, try to make the cultures thorough and intricate, and don’t profess yourself an expert on another person’s culture if you’re not Asian yourself.

Build A Lesbian: Name Suggestions/Lore
We've done it! Our lesbian Salamander is done! Here she is in formal wear and a sketch of her work clothes. She's a copper smith (brownsmith) working with copper, tin, brass, and sometimes pewter. While iron was the undisputed king of "base" metals, most middle and upper class people's items for everyday use would have been made of brass and later pewter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All she needs now are a name and a partner. Feel free to suggest names for her in the comments!
Potential names: Brigid, Roxane, Barbara, Leoma, Glanis
Known Salamander names (alchemy, religion, influential literature) Male: Oromasis, Apollyon, Helios, Mars, Vulcan, Proteus, Moroni, Djin, Porphyr, Phosphorus, Pyrhum, Aphtiph, Orudu, Itumo, Coroman, Tapheth, Oriman, Amtophul Female: Amethysta, Fiammetta, Vesta, Serpentina, Aurora
The salamander was documented in the natural philosophy texts of Classical Greece and Rome. People believed it lived in fire, but attributed it to its body emitting such intense cold that it would extinguish the fire and allow the salamander to remain unharmed. The salamander was also believed to be highly poisonous, being able to poison an entire tree or well if it made contact. This gave the salamander a reputation as a popular magical familiar.
It was Paracelsus who introduced the concept of the Salamanders being the embodiment of fire. Paracelsus' Elementals, as described in his A Book on Nymphs, Sylphs, Pygmies, and Salamanders, and on the Other Spirits, are sentient beings with magical powers who lived within and embodied the four classical elements. However, they differ from humans in that they had no immortal soul which could enter Heaven, and only by marrying a human and receiving Christian sacraments could they have life after death. In a less religions and less Christian context, it simply means their bodies and souls return to their elements after death, both being dissipated to be used as building blocks for new elementals.
Paracelsus was also the first one to suggest they could shapeshift between human and beast forms. Salamanders live in hearths and volcanos. They would associate themselves with mankind to offer them kernels of wisdom or help them forge treasure, but unlike other elementals, rarely seek to marry humans for the sake of gaining entrance into Heaven.
Later Renaissance occultists, as elaborated in the Abbe de Villars' Comte de Gabalis (Count of the Kabbalists), add that because they live in the least material of elements, Salamanders are more chaste and morally upright than all other elementals. They are highly spiritual and possess powerful prophetic abilities. Modern occultists such as Manly P. Hall, Geoffrey Hodson, and the Order of the Golden Dawn state that of all the elementals, the Salamanders are closest to divinity.
Occultists sometimes interpret polytheistic gods, especially those associated with light or fire, as Salamanders. Abbe de Villars states that the Zoroastrian supreme deity, Oromasis (Ahura Mazda), was a Salamander, as were the Greek gods Apollyon (Apollo), Mars, Vulcan, and Proteus. Theosophists, New Age Spiritualists, and occultists also identify the Classical gods Vesta and Helios with fire and Salamanders. Anti-Mormon tracts posit the angel Moroni is a Salamander. Heinrich Heine suggests both God and the Devil, as they appear in German legends, should be Salamanders. Magic manuals give Tzabaoth (Lord of Armies) as the aspect of God they venerate, Michael as their archangel, Aral as their guardian angel, Seraph as the Angelic Order they're affiliated with, Samael and Oriens as their tormenting demons, and Djin as their king. Franz Bardon gives up to eight powerful Salamander nobles -- Pyrhum, Aphtiph, Orudu, Itumo, Coroman, Tapheth, Oriman, Amtophul -- that a magician can work with.
Like fire, Salamanders are passionate, but their tempers range from a raging inferno to a quiet smolder to an enlightened ray of wisdom. They rule the choleric temperament and its associated humor, making them active, quick-witted, and bold, but susceptible to being enslaved by their temper and passions. Abbe de Villars describes Oromasis as kind, forgiving, and charitable; while Apollyon is deeply pious and scandalized when St. Benedict destroys the sanctuary to Apollo and slanders its resident spirit as a devil. Aloysius Bertrand, in his Gaspard of the Night, includes one Salamander who delights in playing pranks on his incompetent wizard partner, as well as another Salamander who "dies of apathy", when he loses his only friend, a cricket. Another poet, Charles Mackay, shows his Salamandrine heroine Amethysta to be passionately loving, compassionate, and powerful and forgiving in turns, while her brother Porphyr is loyal but hot-tempered. Salamander-Moroni was also very wrathful, punched Joseph Smith in the head for not obeying his instructions in retrieving the Golden Plates. ETA Hoffman's Salamander Lindhorf was a wise archivist, but also temperamental and eccentric. Geoffrey Hodson describe a Salamander personally guiding him in a tour of a higher plane, while Marjorie T. Johnson collects fairy encounters where Salamanders are intense and fascinating. Traditionally, they tend to be skilled craftsmen or alchemists, as well as visionary poets or lawyers or even archivists.
As often noted, Salamanders do not often seek companionship with humans. Paracelsus and Manly P. Hall believe this is because they dread hurting humans with their fiery bodies, or that their mystic powers leave them susceptible to demonic possession. Abbe de Villars suggests they simply express more spiritual bonding than carnal desire. This didn't stop Charles Mackay from composing his The Salamandrine, where a knight falls in love with a Salamander, but then in true folklore fashion, abandons her for a rich noblewoman, and is cursed and branded with old age by her brother Porphyr. Nor did it stop the ballet Fiammetta, where a flame sprite is charged by Cupid to seduce a cynical nobleman. And there's always ETA Hoffman writing about a theology student marrying a Salamander and moving to Atlantis. Regardless, in my educated opinion as a folklore lover living in the modern age, Salamanders are simply asexual, in terms of physical attraction.
Salamanders in their humanoid forms possess a brilliant beauty, with intense, flashing eyes and glowing complexions. Their size varies, with Salamanders who manifest through big conflagrations being fiery-armored giants or dragons, to those emerging from little lamp fires being tiny mannikins or amphibians. Due to their homes being the most chaotic element, their bodies are long and lithe. Often they are described as having their head and bodies wreathed in flame. Their hair and skin tend to take on warm tones reminiscent of fire, with their hair being invulnerable to fire. They are identified with Ahura Mazda, radiant, glorious, and beautiful; Apollo, cloaked in gold with hair of gold and piercing eyes; and Moroni, with a face like lightning and white robes. Heinrich Heine gives them red courtier outfits. Hoffman's Salamander wore a robe of fire lilies. Anatole France clads his prospective salamanders in black smoke dresses.
Very few female Salamanders are mentioned in occult or folklore writings. They seem to almost all be male. As noted, this hasn't stopped some Romantic writers from imagining salamander brides, but otherwise Salamanders are always imagined as male. As a folklore lover living in the modern age, I propose that all Salamanders are born with biology that humans would identify as male, and female (or nonbinary) Salamanders transition into their preferred gender later in life.

Chaos In The Streets
The power coursed through his veins, unholy and unrestrained like the Devil himself had unleashed the floodgates in Hell, lava flowing across a barren, scorched landscape, incinerating what minimal of scrub or forms of life existed— be it the fragile existence of flora and what trees grew in their twisted forms, or the demons which crawled and slithered, destroying anything the Creator created in their bottomless, limitless hunger.
Yes.... This was power equivalent to those lava flows. Hot and hungry, any and all that stood in it’s way long gone by the time the scorching heat melted external debris and forms at a single touch, or by the intensity of it’s scalding heat which boiled the air around it to an inferno.
A human screamed, a helicopter whizzed by, compromises by the damaged and bent tail rutter a smaller meteor had caused when it struck the aircraft, sending it on an irreversible trajectory into the slanting side of an office building, more screaming from despaired and frantic humans below.
They wouldn’t survive... Demons and Crawlers leaping from the shadows or scuttling around corners to intercept their scrawny prey.
He might be able to do something, he told himself. Him, the youngest of the Horsemen of The Apocalypse, might be able to salvage what little of Humanity he could. It seemed hopeless, he was certain his sister would scoff and say that these homo sapiens were far better off burriied in the ground rather then littering it with their trademark of cuties and scandalous materials. Strife would probably vouch for the humans, saying they deserved to live, and their eldest brother would likely silently observe, interfering in whatever bricked the three of them would surely have gotten into, taking the logical course of action on the preservationists act of sparing what humans they could.
But his siblings were not here.
Only War was here; the embodiment of justice, and his sword which devoured any and all tremors, any and all evil, and grew hungry for chaos, thirsting for blood.
He stalked forward, a towering behemoth glowing brightly in the dimming sunlight, ash from distant, gargantuan fires smoging the skies in ash and flames, dust and the smell of death and despair.
His chaos form, the pure embodiment of the unrestrained, untrainable and tameable instincts within, plowed through hoards and bodies of demons and angels alike.
Why were the pigeons attack HIM when they should be focused on the hellish eyes targeting their exposed backs? War hadn’t the slightest care towards any clue, but he did have an inkling. An inkling of suspicion that something was wrong here.
And not just because his siblings were absent to his knowledge in this fight...
War approached the fallen, chained Warden, proud constructs and guardians of the Maker’s Realm. Then, something happened.
His insides churned and shredded against each other, a discomfort that quickly turned into an unbearable pain that he only barely managed to keep contained within the grunts and groans forced past gritted teeth, an energy swirling around him which belonged neither to his person nor any demon he was aware of.
“What... is happening...?” As quickly and suddenly as it had came, the sensation and magic was gone, but it left him in an infuriating state. His chaos form was gone, and no longer did he feel that swirling heat in his stomach that he could call upon at will for the transformation. In fact, he felt several things off. Like a chunk of him had been stripped away. Like he had somehow been hacked, and put back together by pieces that didn’t belong to his body.
He felt un-whole.
Something had been stolen. And he was going to get it back.
————
Just a little something after playing a little bit of a new game file— in full abyssal armour WOOOO.
The first time War transformed into his chaos form, I THOUGHT the game was busted because the metre wasn’t going down. @3@ I was pretty excited, because I didn’t remember it staying for the solid two minutes I was fighting through the hoards BEFORE. Then. Then War’s max health went down and he was forced into his normal form again.
Whoever did that is a meanie...

Nine Choirs of Angels
A system within Paradiso in which angels are organized into three different groups according to their ranks. Such rankings are as followed:
FIRST TRIAD; the strongest angels above all, and are closest to God. All those within the First Triad have disturbing true forms.
Seraphim: Angels consisting of three pairs of wings, and are the ones who are feared by all of humanity. Powerful beings who are at the top of the hierarchy. Notable Seraphim: Agnès
Cherubim: Angels consisting of two pairs of wings. They work as underlings for Seraphims. Notable Cherubim: Éléonoire
Ophanim: Also known as a “Throne” angel, they are angels who normally consist of rings in their true forms. They are often mistaken for Arch Angels with how large their wings are, but in their true form, they can choose to have as many wings as they please. Notable Ophanim: Capuccine
SECOND TRIAD; the group below those in the first triad are considered reasonably powerful and are important figures to the system. They do not bear any scary forms like the angels in the first triad, but have other vessels that are seemingly a part of their bodies.
DOMINION: In this universe, there is only one Dominion to ever exist, this being Izabelle. Dominion angels are responsible for sending signals off to Earth when the Apocalypse is near. Dominion angels have little ring companions that share the same consciousness as the angel.
VIRTUES: Angels that are responsible for miracles, and for managing time and seasons. Most Virtues are assigned to different elements upon birth, or different shifts in time (daytime/nighttime cycle). Each angel has a “crystal” that holds elemental magic or has a clock-like instrument that helps shift the hours of the day. Notable Virtues: Diella
POWERS: Angels that are knights protecting Paradiso. They fend off demons to protect holy grounds. They are also responsible for banishing those who break the laws in Paradiso, and send them to Inferno. Notable Powers: Viverette
THIRD TRIAD; Angels that are considered “lower status”. Mostly seen as regular civilians.
PRINCIPALITIES: Angels that are considered Guardians to holy grounds such as Churches or Sanctuaries. Most of the time they are seen as medical support to Powers Angels. Considered admirable healers out of all the angels in the Third Triad. Principalities Angels have special markings on their forehead to show their symbol which can only be seen by those in the Second or First Triad. Notable Principalities: Chiara
Archangels: Leaders to normal angels who have larger wings. They are as respectable as Principalities. Notable Archangels: Cécile
Angels: Common beings within Paradiso. They are, however, capable of being promoted to different positions between Archangels, Principalities or Powers. They have smaller halos with a less intricate design. Notable Angels: Tiramiel
Clavisirism 🗝️
The religion that is universal to my projects. Clavisir is a religion in which they worship the Goddess of Creation, who they believe used a magical key to create Earth. People who follow this religion have keys hung up in their homes, or are worn around their necks to show that they are devout followers. Most Angels within Paradiso often use keys as their weapons to show they belong to the hands of the Goddess. Priests or Priestesses often use Keys as their staff during service for the same reason.
Once an Angel (Third Triad)  is blessed to have a Key of their own, it means they are ready to be promoted.

Shattered Skies
A scattered dream that's like a far-off memory
A far-off memory that's like a scattered dream
Story - The Final Pursuit of Light Order
The "Final World" in Fractured Paragraph. Forged from the scattered memories of Sora, the Light Order uses this massive labyrinth of light as their headquarters like with Organization XIII and The World That Never Was. The memories that dwell in the crystals are all the bad and traumatic moments of Sora. Though this world may be of pure light and the crystalline environment accosted by the roaming sentient food, it gives an ominous and unsettling feeling that rivals even the "End of the World" and "The Realm of Darkness". Not helped by the light rifts , cackling through the skies. All this as yet another "Kingdom Hearts" looms over the planetoid that resembles the fallen keyblade bearer.
Xavier, Data-Sora, and their friends pursue the Light Order and Xehanort from the replica Keyblade Graveyard to this enormous fortress of pure light and sugar. Upon arriving at the Shattered Skies, the guardians find themselves trembling at the emptiness of the realm. As they move from the steps of Unhumble Beginnings, they encounter chambers that resemble their "stations of "Dives to the Hearts". As they step through the portals, they are suddenly accosted by their horrible pasts in the Eternal Agush:
Roxas once again witness the demise of Xion, while Lea is ambushed by the revived Saix, still angered of him forgetting about SubjectX
Terra now struggles again with Terra-Xehanort. Now without Master Eraqus to fight back against Xehanort's malice, Terra-Xehanort returns to finish off Aqua and Ventus once and for all.
Ventus faces Vanitas once again and ALMOST faces his true past from the ORIGINAL Keyblade War
Aqua now faces being alone in the Realm of Darkness. She is taunted by Brothalomous for rejecting his offer to destroy darkness, as she faces the Anti-Aqua Demon Tide AND the Inferno Aqua Angel Tide.
But Xavier and Data' Sora are along side them as they defeat this light mirrors of their trauma. As they press on, the guardians NOW face creepy light puppets of Sora along with the Comestibles and their replicas of the Heartless, Nobodies, and Unversed. While traveling through the crystal maze, they now found themselves sufferign through SORA'S memories. Xehanort Prime and his seekers appear to taunt them as usual, they mock the guardians for letting Sora die in vain. "Sora perished for your sins, now may perish by his! Like I said, 'His time in this world is OVER'" said Young Xehanort. The guardians now are deeply sadden by how they took Sora for granted, but Xavier made an inspiring speech about not lettings Sora's sacrifice be for nothing and defeat Xehanort once and for all.
Xavier and the guardians nearly reached the top and are ready to fight through the last obstales of the Shattered Skies. Their penultimate challenge awaited them in a special replica. This vessel took the form of ... Xavier? Yes, all the trauma from the Eternal Aguish returned once again as they empower this vessel names "The Darkness". This clone that wore the face of the Dark Hero, claims himself to be the Darkness that took and destoyed EVERYTHIGN they held dear and tried to get the Guardains to hate Xavier once again. He them accosed them with all the horrible memories of Darkness and proejcted the mon Xavier, but they eventuall saw through the rube. After facing their fear. They were ready to face Xehanort Prime and the Light Order.

Hazbin Hotel got released! And I pulled myself out of hell to release this old artwork
So if it wasn’t clear by the absolute gravesite this sideblog is, although I was a big fan of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, I ended up falling out of it. But I won’t lie, I had a lot of fun making Donna and the triplets and the love story with Rosie. Drawing and writing about her was something I genuinely enjoyed and I never deleted this blog because I had so much fun. I honestly still miss creating stuff about Donna, and I still have a lot of ideas for her, but for now this is it.
When I first made Donna, it was all the way back when all that we had of Hazbin was the small animated shots we had, which I enjoyed a lot, so I wanted to make my own OC. Since I learned that Hell was loosely based off of Dante’s Inferno, I pulled inspiration from there. Dante’s Inferno is not just bible fanfiction though-it’s crossover fanfiction too because Dante put a lot of different mythologies in there actually, especially Greek Mythology. And in one scene, when he is about to enter the city of Dis, he and Virgil are attacked by the Furies, who threaten to bring out Medusa, before they are stopped by an angel who opens the gates and lets them go in.
So I merged the angel and Medusa together and made the furies the children of that character and that’s how I got Donna and the triplets. Yeah, the full story of Donna is that she was a seraphim name Abbadona (another tie to hell because Abbadon is another name for Satan I think). She was suppose to be a guardian of the city of Dis in Hell, however one day she couldn’t stand the cries of people anymore, and tried to help a person. However she only ended up being pulled down while that person escaped, and burned by the Hellfire turning her into a demon. The transformation was so terrible when she got out she wandered to the surface, where Ancient Greece saw her monsterous form and called her Medusa. Not knowing any better, she just kept that name. She actually ended up falling in love with Perseus and Andromache, but she couldn’t control her powers at that time and ended up accidentally turning Perseus to stone, and Andromache killed herself because of it. She eventually found herself back in hell, where she tried to live a low life but after was almost killed, she ended up deciding she was going to do whatever it takes to climb to the top where she would never be powerless again. Her children only motivated her more do so, and she became the Drug Overlord in Hell. Lucifer recognizing her, gave her the city of Dis (since she has power over it anyway) and since people were calling her Don or Donna Medusa, she named herself Donna Medusa Gorgon and became one of the most powerful overlords in hell. Her children, Aria, Aurora, and Angelo are destined to become the Furies and the most ruthless guardians in hell.
There was a lot wrong with Donna and the story I wrote for her, it was basic and mary-sue-ish in hindsight, but she was and is still one of my favorite characters I made. I haven’t check the show out yet, but I will, and who knows maybe I’ll be inspired to make more of Donna. But I hope everyone else can enjoy the show and they are inspired to create and have fun as well.

Mystery March 10: Mistake/ Uncommon Ancestry 13b
“Before you ask, Izuku doesn’t know about our prior conversion, and I’d prefer he didn’t find out.”
Iida felt a knot in his stomach untie. The thought that Midoriya had known everything and had been pretending otherwise since Hosu left a bad taste in his mouth; he was glad it wasn’t the case. “May I ask why?”
Lewis nodded. “Vivi and Arthur are Guardian Spirits. I act as one, but that’s not my true nature. I’m a wraith.”
Iida’s eyes narrowed in thought. “At the camp that’s what Mori-san called me. A ‘Baby Wraith’.”
“Shiro loves stirring the pot, but she’s not entirely wrong. I don’t know how you were before Stain, but when I first saw you you certainly had the feel of a wraith to you. And that hasn’t changed.”
“What does that mean?” Iida asked.
“To be honest, I don’t know. I always thought of wraiths as just another kind of ghost, so this is a learning experience.” Lewis led him into a gallery of paintings.
“These are our memories. Preserved so if our minds twist them, we’ll have a true reference.” He gestured to a dark frame decorated with twisted vines. “This one is mine.”
Iida looked at it and found himself within the memory itself. Of driving to a cave, of exploring it before suddenly being pushed to his death while his best friend, Arthur-san?!?!, smiled at his falling form.
Iida experienced awaking in rage. Of trying to make things right, first by attempting to burn the traitor in the very mansion they were standing in, then causing his van to crash, and finally throwing him off the very same cliff he’d killed Lewis on.
The vision ended, leaving Iida back at the mansion.
“Tell me, Iiida-kun, were my actions just?” Lewis asked in a somber tone.
“Of course they were!” Iida snapped. “The man is unforgivable. How could you allow him to be near your family? My classmates?”
“Another perspective,”
Iida found himself guided to a cherrywood frame shaped like nine woven threads. “I don’t care what he had to-”
“Not his, Mystery’s.” was all Lewis said, and suddenly Iida found himself in the cave again.
It was different this time. Through the memory of a kitsune Iida was able to experience things no normal human could. He could see the malevolence in the cave. He saw it grab Arthur through his arm, saw Arthur’s very soul fight and lose and the demon (what else could it be?) murder Lewis-san. And as Mystery, he knew there was only one way to save him.
Iida perceived himself growing and charging forward, when he was blessedly removed from the memory.
Arthur-ojiisan wouldn’t react well to Shinsou-kun’s quirk He vaguely remembered Midoriy saying, at the Sports Festival that felt like a lifetime ago. And maybe it was, as it was before he’d become a wraith.
“This is Arthur’s,” was the only warning Iida got before the beechwood frame carved into intricate gears dissolved into a hospital.
One of Arthur-san’s arms had always been different, and now Iida knew why. He watched him wake up short a limb, but still focusing to almost the exclusion of all else on his missing friend, whom he didn’t remember was dead.
He watched him forgo his recovery time to begin a search and watched Vivi-san be the only thing to keep him from doing even more damage to himself.
He saw him find the mansion and escape, though not without the force of the explosion slamming him into the van, never realizing he had achieved his goal.
He watched him flee from the haunted truck and go through the windshield when it crashed. He wanted to scream as he watched Lewis-san let him fall a second time.
And he nearly cried with relief when he saw Arthur-san land safely.
He saw the wounds between the three heal, saw them reassure the fourth who had all but forgotten how to be himself and the reconciliation with his daughter. He saw the three make an eternal vow to each other, watching Arthur hold his own daughter in his arms for the first time. It felt good. It felt right.
Then he noticed as the memories went further, Arthur seemed to get weaker, ending with him collapsing.
Untreated organ damage the doctor said and Iida saw flashbacks to the explosion that threw him into the van, the car crash that sent him through a window, and the fall off the cliff that stopped suddenly. We’ll do everything we can, but it might be a good idea to get your affairs in order.
In the end Arthur didn’t even look like Arthur, but rather like a blond skeleton, strapped to a hospital bed with the constant *beep* *beep* of the heart monitor.
Lewis-san and Mystery were the same. Vivi-san was older, as was their daughter, who’s hair was a different shade of green, but had the round face he recognized in Midoriya-kun and his mother.
There was something wrong with the memory. The field of vision was darkening and color seemed to be slowly draining from it.
Daddy? He heard the little girl ask as the vision turned dark and all he could hear was the heart monitor’s final *beeeeeeeeeeeeep*
A heavy hand on his shoulder broke the spell. Iida clasped his hands to his mouth to keep from screaming and felt tears he hadn’t realized he was shedding run down his face.
“I ask you again Iida-kun. Were my actions just?”
It was a long while before Iida could answer. “How do you live with it?” he finally asked.
“I don’t.” Lewis said simply. “And unlike my husband, that’s not a comment on my status of being. I remained in this world because that’s what the two I hurt the most wanted. I don’t deserve their love, but they still give it freely, and I’m not cruel enough to reject it for the sake of my own self punishment. The guilt and the shame? It’s been there every day since Arthur got his diagnosis. He tried to keep it from me, he didn’t want me to blame myself.” Lewis shook his head. “It will never go away. I will feel it for the rest of my existence.”
“You’re a wraith, Iida Tenya. Would that I could change it, but I can’t. But at least I could do the one thing in my power. Stop you from making the same mistake I did.”
Iida’s mouth opened and closed a few times. There was so much he wanted to say, so much of it condemning the man, the killer, in front of him. But the words that finally edged out were ‘Thank you.’
Lewis nodded his acknowledgment. “We should get to the kitchen. I did promise snacks for your friends, and you don’t lie to Vivi about snacks.”
His tone was light, but Iida could feel the lodestone that weighed on the ghost’s soul. “Uraraka-kun as well.” He agreed.
He was a wraith (somehow), but he was a cold wraith. He would never burn an innocent. And it was only because of this man he didn’t go down the path of inferno that would only have led to the instruction of him and his loved ones
If one had asked him, even earlier this very evening, if a killer could be forgiven, Iida would have said no. But Arthur-san had forgiven Lewis-san and Iida himself could bear him no ill will.
He would learn from Lewis-san and never make that mistake, nor be tempted by it again.

BonelyHearts Inferno! Reader insert2
{Goddess!ReaderXSkeleton Reaper household}
Part 2: Ten kings, One goddess
You knew hell to have flames, you were told in your youth that hell was a place of unending fire and suffering. So it came no surprise to you when you felt warmth around you…an yet this warmth did not turn into the sharp sensation of serpent flames that scorched ones skin. It was far too gentle to be anything related to such a horrible place, your eyes fluttered open…you found yourself surrounded by the most beautiful shade of purple.
You never seen such a sight before, like an arrow you shot up and looked around, the color was dyed into sheer bed curtains that surrounded you. The blankets that covered you shared the same color, not just that but just how soft these fabrics felt to you. They made silk seem like untreated flax in comparison, you shook your head and focused your mind back on where you were. You noticed a dark shadow just outside the curtain, fear came back in waves. With trembling hands you pushed back the curtains.
There sitting on a small chair was a skeleton, he appeared to be sleeping. Wrapped in a cloak that almost seemed to be cut from night itself. He wore a smile akin to childlike mischief where there is no malice in their actions, just jovial fun. Pushing the curtain back more you noticed the room was….bathed in the same light that gave the beast you saw before of the mighty ship its demonic glare. A cerulean flame on each torch housed in a floral glass shade.
The room seemed carved of out of marble formed by smoke, whips of white swirled in the stone itself. Slowly you sat up, your legs swung over the side of the bed. You saw a beautiful vanity with a neatly folded gown, it looked like it was woven from emeralds.
“Good to see your awake.” Came a voice, you jumped and turned to the skeleton…who was now looking at you.
You shivered and backed up into the safety of the bed again, perhaps you thought the curtains would protect you, that was wishful thinking. You watched as he gently pulled the bed curtains all to one side, then sat back down and smiled.
“Guess thats to be expected, names Sans, king, judge of hell and fairer of the departed souls….an lover of puns.” The skeleton named Sans gave a playful wave as if brushing away a bug.
“I….” The words caught in your throat, Sans looked at you and gave a gentle but impish smile.
“Yeah its true I look scary, don’t worry though it takes a lot to get ‘under my skin’ as they say.”
Did…did he just make a pun? You didn’t know if it was the confusion or shock but…you started having a giggle fit. You had a slight weakness for puns at times, an you just couldn’t help yourself.
“Well Mr.Pun-lover if I’m ‘tibia’ honest I do find your jokes quite ‘humerus’ heh oh I hope I haven’t ‘tickled your funny bone’ have I now?” You giggled out.
Looking up you saw his impish grin turn into what you could only describe as pure glee. He looked like a child who was just given an entire serving of honey-cakes all to himself. For a little moment you two punned back and forth before you both were interrupted by your growling stomach. Your face went red with embarrassment.
“Heh, figured as much. You’ve been out for almost a whole day, well anyway now that yer awake I can take you to the bath chamber so you can cleaned up then we can meet the other kings. My brother and a few of the kings found you something suitable to wear when your done.”
He extended his hand to you, hesitant at first but you slid your hand into his. Grabbing the emerald toga from the vanity he escorted you from the room, past the heavy oak door of the room was a long yet spacious atrium. You notated more doors of similar wood but all seemed to be decorated or carved with specific symbols and designs.
It was past this room you walked along an open area…there you looked out over a landscape that almost froze you to the spot if not for Sans gentle encouraging hand. You expected a world of never ending despair and anguish…an yet here you were looking out at a vast garden of utter beauty. Tree’s filled with green foliage, flowers of the most unearthly beauty with colors never found in the mortal world.
“You’ll get to see more of the garden later, best not to keep the baths waiting unless you don’t mind bathing in cold water.” Sans chuckled, gently guiding you to a large pair of double doors. Pushing them open, clouds of steam billowed out around you leaving diamond-beads of sweat on your skin.
“Here we are, one of my cousin-kings will be here waiting for you when your done. They’ll take you to the dining hall, there you can meet the rest of’em.”
You blinked an looked at him. “Cousin-kings?”
Sans shrugged. “Yeah, all my cousins are kings down here so to speak but we’ll explain that when your cleaned and fed. Take as long as you need.”
In one blink he was gone, left with more questions then answers you decided to think about while soaking. You closed the doors behind you and looked out…before you was a large pool of water with ghostly wisps of steam rising up. Such a sight never filled you with such relief before, without hesitating you quickly stripped yourself of your old toga. Along the sides of the large bath chamber you found bottles of fragrant oils and cream for your skin.
Walking over to the selection of bottles you picked out three, you pulled the cork on one and inhaled the sweet aroma of fresh milk. You lifted the bottle and bowed your head, letting the white liquid pour over your hair and skin. Just enough to cleanse your scalp, you massaged the milk in before taking a bottle of the cream and repeating the process. Then you doused yourself with a pitcher of water, shivering a bit as the cold water trialed down your back.
But it would be worth it, covering your chest with your arms you slowly walked to the edge of the mighty pool. Dipping just your toes in you felt your body just melt, before you knew it your entire being was submerged into the water minus your head.
Ooh~ it felt so nice, for a moment you forgot where you were. Your mind drifted to the hot springs you bathed in as a child. Splashing about and in the process making flower petals out of the water droplets. Sadly that image in your mind was disrupted by the recollection of the river….the river you sailed on with your tiny boat….
You stood up, feeling tears retuning….but before you could start crying again…you found the pool was filled with flowers. You must’ve created them without knowing..
Hopefully your hosts won’t be mad about it…after you dried off and dabbed a little perfume on your neck you walked out back into the hall. You tied up your hair with both wisteria flowers and vines. You just stepped outside when you were suddenly accosted at the door, a much taller skeleton clad in bright red with armor stood beside you.
“Hello there! I am the Great King Papyrus, guardian of limbo it is an honor to meet you!”
You didn’t get a chance to speak before he whisked you into his arms into a princess carry. You felt your cheeks grow hot as he whisked within seconds to another set of large doors.
“Forgive the sudden rush but…my cousins have been rather impatient to meet you Goddess.”
You were still in a bit of shocked surprise and it only grew when the doors opened. Before you now was a large marble table filled to the brim of food of every kind. However you noticed very little animal meat, but that did not bother you too much since you rather feast upon fish instead. Animals were precious to you and you only ate their flesh when you either had no choice or were told to in the presence of other gods.
But food was not the only thing you found at this large table, you found five short skeletons among them was Sans now in a dark blue toga instead of his black cloak an five tall skeletons…all strangely baring a resemblance to both Sans and Papyrus.
Sans stood up from his seat and smiled.
“Welcome Goddess, care to join us?”

I mostly write platonic relationships, fluff, slice of life, romance, comfort and a lot of AUs. It’s what I’m comfortable with and thrive in best! I do enjoy writing mystery, crime/murder and angst once in a while. Gotta let the dark side out too.
Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc?
Usually, it’s either member centric and or ‘X reader/ + Reader’, it’s not always romance when reader insert is involved :)
What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?
Definitely friendship and slice of life! AU wise, I’m a sucker for the supernatural side: demons, angels, mythical creatures and mythology, they are all right up my alley. I also enjoyed writing crime AU and anything dark, nothing like unleashing the inner criminal legally through words… and occasionally being questioned, “What’s going on in that head of yours?”
What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?
Tropes I love, I’m a sucker for friendship/platonic, slow-burn enemies to lovers, the cafe/bar occupation, single parent, the demon is suddenly your guardian angel, the breakup and the crime syndicate dynamics. Tropes I can’t stand on the other hand aren’t much, I don't actively read a/b/o dynamics, Hogwarts, hybrids and werewolf/vampire. It’s mostly AUs now that I listed them.
What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?
Oh this is tough. I think it would have to be ATEEZ: ‘Supernatural Activities’ series. I’m proud of how ‘Dante’s Inferno’ & ‘Angels in the Streets’ turned out and they are well received too.
Who is your favorite person to write about?
Song Mingi of ATEEZ. Somehow writing about him always seems personal. Maybe it’s the similarities we carry. It seems like a lot of the time, the bias is the one who is most similar to us.
What inspires you to write?
Simply the need to escape reality and it’s an outlet to expel excess emotions I carry sometimes. All is well in the mind after I write and sleep.
What do you hope your readers take away from your work?
I hope it provides you an escape for a brief moment, I hope it makes you happy. I hope you could enjoy the world with a touch more romanticism, we are all a part of the aesthetic we see in the media and more. Sure it’s a tough world but there are good in it too.
What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?
I take a break. It’s no use for me to push on when I hit a rough patch. I’ll read and do everything else except writing. It rarely happens as I’m constantly full of ideas, it’s the lack of motivation that keeps me from creating.
What do you think makes a good story?
To be honest, if I enjoyed it, it’s good. I’m a simple person with simple pleasures.
What is your writing process like?
Messy 😂 There’s no getting around it. I would rewrite a paragraph three times if I don’t like it, delete a thousand words, scrap a different story to incorporate it into another. I don’t always start from the beginning either. A writing piece could take anywhere within several minutes, a few hours to days, weeks and months. It all depends on my motivation and how busy work is keeping me from writing. (Psst, it’s mostly the former).
Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?
Yes. Writing in the fanfiction world, more often than not, we are already given much of the relationship dynamics and setting. (Unless it’s AU then that's a whole different animal, it might as well be an original prose). In original prose, we have to weave most, if not all, of the world and characters building… I hope I understood the question right...
Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?
Maybe. It’s usually the other way around. I have thoughts to repurpose an abandoned original story for a fic series. Highly unlikely that I’ll actually do it.
How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?
A lot! Please! It’s the biggest motivation for us content creators to keep creating! You have no idea how fast my hand reaches for my phone every time tumblr notifications pop up, hoping for a reblog and comments in the tags.
What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)?
My mutuals reblogging my works. They’re exposed to new eyes and the readers, on the other hand, find a new blog.
Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged?
Yes. Fanfic writers are as important to the fandom community as the rest of the content creators are.
Do you think art can be a medium for change?
Absolutely. Art is a fantastic gateway to many things.
Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?
Only when I decided to take requests which happens like once a year and maybe even less.
Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?
No, I don’t think so. No one has asked me to clarify any of my writings. One anon used to send me asks about world expansion and said anon turned into a dear friend.
Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?
NOPE. DON'T LET THEM KNOW. I WON’T LET THEM KNOW. NEVER. Leave my virtual writing world be. *puts ‘do not cross’ yellow tape all over*
What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?
Please leave me some feedback, even keyboard smashes are fine, I can translate those. Don’t be shy to leave me asks if you want to chat, ramble, or get something off your chest. This is a safe place for you, an escape from reality.
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?
Don’t be afraid. As hellish this platform is, it'll help you grow in the writing department. I know this is not the best advice but you have to try to see the result.
Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?
I don’t think so. There were moments of “Why do I even bother?” but it happens and will happen again in the future but no regrets.
Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey?
I do! Most of the ones who were there from the beginning aren’t there anymore but it’s alright. Their lives outside of Tumblr are always more important than anything else. I don’t have to heart to unfollow their pages. My current handful of mutuals are an amazing bunch too! The sheer talent and creativity they possessed are out of this world. I love seeing their posts outside of the writing world, their personalities shine through and my heart feels fuzzy whenever I see it. Though I don’t interact often with most of them, I adore them all and consider them good friends.
Pick a quote to end your interview with:
Since we, writers, create in order to find escape and or brush up our skills or simply for the sake of creating. As we broaden our skill sets, “Necessity is the mother of invention. Failure is the mother of success.” Common, I know, but it’s comforting to know that failure can be a motivation to do better. Don’t stay down, always rise again.

Long ago in ancient Japan there lived a mighty shogun, loved by his people he ruled during an era of peace until a dark threat rose. The Akukai, monstrous beings created from the spirits of the dishonorable dead began to attack the innocent.
Fortunately an order of monks and priestesses discovered a way to infuse kanji with a person’s spiritual essence creating the ability of Kanji-Ryuko. By using a Kanji Command warriors could unleash incredible attacks and abilities. The Shogun studied this ability and had a group of handpicked warriors study it as well. The order also provided a series of talisman to the samurai to give them further power in battle. Using this ability the group of samurai was able to fend off the invasion and finally the Shogun gravely wounded the leader of the Akukai, Chionio (Blood Demon King) as he and the rest of the warriors created a seal to keep the monsters trapped. However in the resulting explosion they were caught in a seal themselves.
Many centuries later the conditions were just right to break the seals releasing both groups. Chionio was still healing from his wounds so his followers attacked the world to avenge him as the samurai aim to ward them off once more as the Power Rangers Bushido Blades!

Scorpion" is the alias of Hanzo Hasashi, formerly one of the finest warriors of the Japanese Shirai Ryu ninja clan,[2] until he was slain by Bi-Han, a member of the Lin Kuei (a rival clan of Chinese assassins) who worked under the name "Sub-Zero". Scorpion became a "hellspawn" revenant residing in Hell, later called the Netherrealm, who sought vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the murder of his family, including his wife Harumi and his son Satoshi. Although essentially neutral in allegiance, Scorpion joins forces with anyone who can assist in his plans of revenge. He was once manipulated by the sorcerer Quan Chi, whom he promised his life to in exchange for his impressive kombat abilities in order to defeat Sub-Zero.[1]
In his initial backstory, displayed in the first game's (1992) attract mode, he is described as only having enmity towards Sub-Zero, which was attributed to rivalries between their opposing ninja clans. His ending revealed that he was actually an undead specter who had been killed by Sub-Zero and was survived by a wife and child.[3] This was further explored in a tie-in comic book written and illustrated by MK co-creator John Tobias and published by Midway. In a one-page scene, set aboard a junk en route to Mortal Kombat tournament host Shang Tsung's private island, Scorpion shocks Sub-Zero with his unexpected return exactly two years after his death, declaring that his "demons" had allowed him to return and avenge his demise.[4] After Shokan Prince Goro's defeat at the hands of eventual champion Liu Kang, Shang Tsung's army launched an attack, forcing Scorpion to team up with Sub-Zero, the thunder god Raiden, and other tournament survivors to hold them back before he killed his rival and disappeared.[4]
In Mortal Kombat II (1993), Scorpion discovers Sub-Zero has somehow returned, and planned to compete in the second Mortal Kombat tournament held in the otherworldly dimension of Outworld and hosted by the realm's emperor Shao Kahn. He tracks his nemesis down but notices, in the process, Sub-Zero sparing the life of an opponent in battle. Scorpion realizes that this is not Bi-Han, but instead his younger brother, Kuai Liang, who had taken on his brother's codename in his memory and was tasked with completing his failed mission of assassinating Shang Tsung. As a result, Scorpion vowed to serve as the new Sub-Zero's guardian in atonement for killing his older brother.[5]
In the 2005 beat 'em up spin-off Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, set during the events of Mortal Kombat II, Scorpion is a boss character who attempts to kill the game's playable protagonists Liu Kang and Kung Lao. He appears in both masked and unmasked forms, with the latter being named "Inferno Scorpion". The planned co-op game, Mortal Kombat: Fire & Ice, which would have starred Scorpion and Sub-Zero as the protagonists, was canceled when Paradox Development, the developers of Shaolin Monks, "couldn't do it in time and under budget."[6]
Scorpion, along with all of the game's palette-swapped human ninja characters, was not playable in Mortal Kombat 3, but returned in the 1995 upgrade Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 when Shao Kahn tried to conquer the Netherrealm after his invasion of Earth, and enlisted the ninja in his forces. Scorpion's allegiance to the Kahn quickly dissolved when he discovers, in a continuance of his MKII storyline, that Sub-Zero was one of Earth's chosen warriors, with whom he sided in their final showdown with Shao Kahn.[1]
Quan Chi was officially introduced into Scorpion's rivalry with Sub-Zero in the main MK storyline, starting with Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997). Scorpion is featured therein as an unplayable boss character, appearing twice throughout the game. Despite playing a minor role, his background was officially expanded in a feature on the game's official website, where his real name and that of his clan were revealed, while his yellow outfit was described as an apparent mockery of the Lin Kuei after former Lin Kuei member Takeda developed ninjutsu before leaving the clan and forming the rival Shirai Ryu.[2] Scorpion is enlisted by Quan Chi to find a map hidden in a Shaolin temple, a task the sorcerer also gave to Sub-Zero in order to engage the two rival ninjas in combat. If the player performs a killer move on Scorpion, he will reappear as another boss later in the game. In Mortal Kombat 4 (1997), Quan Chi tricked Scorpion into believing that Sub-Zero was involved in the deaths of his family and clan, resulting in the specter allying with him. In Scorpion's ending, he emerges victorious over Sub-Zero, but Quan Chi reveals his involvement in killing Scorpion's clan and family. When the sorcerer attempts to banish Scorpion, the latter grabs the former at the last minute, sending them both to the Netherrealm.[7] A variation of this ending was seen in Sub-Zero's conclusion, when Sub-Zero stands over a fallen Scorpion before being knocked down by Quan Chi, who again reveals his scheme and claims that both ninjas were pawns for the fallen Elder God Shinnok, which results in Scorpion killing Quan Chi and declaring Sub-Zero free of his curse.[8]
Scorpion's MK4 ending is carried over into Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002), where he relentlessly hunts down Quan Chi, only to be attacked by the Oni Drahmin and Moloch, whom the sorcerer had hired as protection and to help free him from the Netherrealm. In his non-canonical ending, Scorpion is killed when Drahmin and Moloch hurl him into a Soulnado, a magical tornado consisting of tormented souls trapped between Earthrealm and Outworld. In Scorpion's biography in Mortal Kombat: Deception however, he is depicted as having escaped as well. He meets the Elder Gods, which, coupled with his witnessing Raiden's death and the emergence of Onaga, the Dragon King, causes him to accept a new role as the Elder Gods' servant while working to prevent Onaga's merging of the realms.
In the Konquest mode of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (2006), Scorpion cuts a deal with the Elder Gods to serve them in exchange for the resurrection of the Shirai Ryu and his wife and son.[1] However, they resurrect them as undead beings. Enraged, Scorpion seeks to destroy the Elder Gods' chance of preventing Armageddon by taking the elemental Blaze's power, but the Edenian demigod Taven defeats him and he is later killed by Sub-Zero in a battle royal amongst the series characters in the game's opening sequence.[9]
In the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot, an alternative-timeline retelling of the first three titles, Scorpion reprises his role from the first game in seeking vengeance against the elder Sub-Zero, Bi-Han. This time though, he serves Quan Chi from the start, unaware that the sorcerer is the mastermind behind the murder of his family and clan. Raiden, attempting to alter the timeline in hopes of averting Armageddon, talks Scorpion into sparing Sub-Zero's life in exchange for reviving the Shirai Ryu. Scorpion agrees, and when he defeats Sub-Zero in the Netherrealm, he refuses to kill him. However, Quan Chi convinces Scorpion otherwise by showing him a graphic vision of Sub-Zero murdering his wife and child. Despite Sub-Zero protests, Scorpion promptly incinerates him. He reappears on the tournament grounds holding Sub-Zero's skull and spinal column.[10] Later in the game, the younger Sub-Zero Kuai Liang seeks revenge for his brother's death by demanding a fight with Scorpion in Shao Kahn's arena, which Quan Chi grants. Scorpion immediately recognizes the new Sub-Zero as the original's younger brother, and while he is defeated, Kuai Liang is apprehended by his clan before he finish the revenant off.[11] Scorpion is last seen when he fights and loses to Raiden in the Netherrealm before disappearing.[12] In his non-canonical arcade ending, the Shirai Ryu appear before Scorpion as ghostly apparitions who reveal the truth about their murder and aid him in killing Quan Chi for his deception. In Sub-Zero's ending, he learns the truth about his and Scorpion's families and offers the specter a chance to join him in his quest for vengeance. Scorpion accepts, joining Sub-Zero to form their own Deadly Alliance.[13]
In Mortal Kombat X, which takes place two years after the previous game, Scorpion was sent to attack the Special Forces alongside a revenant version of Kuai Liang. Due to the efforts of Raiden and his allies however, they were restored to their human forms and freed from Quan Chi's control. Over the course of the following two decades, the newly restored Hanzo Hasashi reformed the Shirai Ryu, trained Kenshi's son Takeda Takahashi, and made amends with the young Sub-Zero after he revealed Quan Chi was responsible for the murder of his family and clan. When the Special Forces captured Quan Chi, a revenge-minded Hasashi subdued them and released the sorcerer so he could challenge him to a final fight before he killed him. Concurrently, Quan Chi's associate D'Vorah appeared so she could have the sorcerer free Shinnok from his amulet. Hasashi decapitated Quan Chi, but not before he could finish reciting a spell to successfully free the fallen Elder God, who immediately incapacitated everyone in the surrounding area.
In Mortal Kombat 11, Hasashi continues to lead the Shirai Ryu in protecting Earthrealm as its Grandmaster a further two years after MKX and Shinnok's defeat. When the keeper of time Kronika caused a time anomaly in an attempt to erase Raiden from history, she brought a past version of Scorpion to the present so she could recruit him to her fold with the promise of resurrecting his clan and family.[14] Meanwhile, Hasashi worked with Sub-Zero to foil Lin Kuei clansman turned cyber ninja Sektor and his plans to build a Cyber Lin Kuei army. They were successful, despite facing opposition from Bi-Han, who had been resurrected as the revenant Noob Saibot, and learning that Sektor played a role in murdering Hasashi's clan and family.[15] After Kronika's forces compromise or destroy most of their bases, Hasashi agrees to house his Earthrealm allies at the Shirai Ryu's Fire Gardens.[16] To help locate Kronika's Keep, Hasashi suggests forging an alliance with Kharon, a ferryman who transports unfortunate souls to the Netherrealm who he and Sub-Zero met while they were revenants.[17] He succeeds in recruiting Kharon and convincing his younger self to turn away from Kronika, but he is killed by D'Vorah. With his dying breath, he urges his younger self to abandon his pursuit of vengeance and defend Earthrealm. Scorpion keeps his word and joins the allied forces of Earthrealm and Outworld to stop Kronika.[18][19][20] In his non-canonical arcade ending, the younger Scorpion fails to keep his promise to his future self, and kills Kronika so he can restart history to ensure his loved ones' survival. When he discovers that otherworldly forces conspire to make sure the tragedy always repeats itself, he undergoes a quest for revenge against them.

002 ✟ IN DEPTH
Paradise was supposed to be home. It’s heaven, it was so sought after, so perfect, pristine and immaculate  -so much so that people were dying to get in- why then she always wondered, was it so damn suffocating? Why did it feel like she had heavy chains wrapped around her wrists and ankles, holding her down, holding her captive? Why did the shimmering white wings on her back feel like such a burden? Like a weight she could not release, even when she completed all the tasks given to her by the higher order?  Rosalia Fuentes was born an angel of the light, but she never felt right in her skin. Blasphemous thoughts would crowd her brain, and she knew deep down in her soul, that she didn’t belong in heaven. Raised by a guardian angel of a mother - who looked after her assigned human more than her own child- and a warrior angel father, who was often out, executing the assignments mandated by God himself. Loneliness became Rosalia’s companion. It settled itself deep inside her, and as they years flew by, it spread, leaving behind a coldness that left her feeling empty.
Even at a young age, Rosalia never understood the appeal of humans. What made them so special? What was it about them, that they managed to steal the attention she so desperately craved from her very own mother? What exactly made them God’s favorite? And no one could ever dispute the fact that they were, for the angel’s sole existence was to protect them, to look after them, to serve them. Sometimes she couldn’t help but feel jealous. An emotion that was even uglier than the emptiness of loneliness, because jealousy burned. Rosalia was grateful however, grateful over the fact that it was easy for her to hide the horrid feelings and thoughts that were tormenting her. She was blessed with the face of fresh innocence and the lilting voice of a songbird. No one ever suspected how miserable she really was, no one ever got that her helpfulness was often a product of habit and not a genuine need to help. The mask of perfection she carried was flawless and only improved with every year that passed by.
There was however, a small period of respite, that quickly became her very own form of salvation. It happened when she started training in heaven. Meeting and befriending Adonis Deerling was a happy accident, but one she never came to regret. For whenever she was in his presence, the constant feeling of jealousy and loneliness disappeared. He was hers. Her companion, her training partner...her best friend. There was finally a purpose to her days when she rose, to make him happy, to lift the sadness that clung to him like a second skin. She learned that she loved to be tactile around him, often initiating deep long hugs and cuddle sessions. Rosalia often looked forward to the quiet moments after they had completed a mission, where she would she would offer her lap for him to lay his head and rest, rest from whatever they had just endured, or rest from whatever worries haunted him. She loved to run her fingers through his silky soft hair, and trace away the wrinkles in his forehead. She would tell him stories, or sing to him, whichever felt right for that moment until he was sleeping, safe in the knowledge that she would protect him. These were the moments she treasured, these were the moments that brought her bliss.
There was a safety in his presence, she was able to drop her facade of perfection more and more as their time together went on. He never judged her for it. Simply guided her back on track, helped her do the right thing. That safety backfired however, as her feelings of discontentment and disillusions with heaven grew, it became impossible for her to hide how she was feeling from Adonis. He knew her too well, knew her lies from her truth. And there was a greediness in her heart that had not existed before, because she didn’t want to just be partners with Adonis, she wanted to be his lover, his muse...she wanted to be his. She wanted more than what he was willing to give, and it crushed her. She knew he cared...but did he care enough? Did he actually love her? She was too much of a coward to find out.
The day that changed her life was the day that she met Luca D’ Amore. It’s like he took one look at her and he could tell that she was a fraud, that her fight for the light was nothing but a facade. Luca promised liberation, freedom from the invisible shackles that have followed her since day one. He gave her hope that the emptiness within her would finally be filled. That the wrongness could be fixed, since she would no longer be living a lie... and in that moment, she didn’t think twice when the demonic blood was offered to her. Rosalia caved to her impulse, her selfishness blinding her from the truth of what she was giving up, the little slice of bliss that was entirely hers. Adonis wasn’t on her mind until it was too late. And she fell, half sobbing from the heartache of leaving him and half laughing at the utter glee of breaking the shackles that held on to her. The conflicting emotions battling it out, making her seem like a mad woman, all the whole her shimmering white wings were changing, no longer glistening and pure.  Now they were varying shades of grey and black. She was free from her duties.....she was fallen.
003 ✟ FUN FACTS
Ever since falling, Rosalia is impulsive and wild to the max. Partying, booze, drugs, sex, adventure. She seeks it all. Anything to be the complete opposite of who she was in heaven.
She’s only been a fallen angel for 90 years.
Rosalia still carries a cross necklace around her neck, she usually keeps it hidden, and it’s not because any part of her believes in the ways of the light, but its her last remaining connection to Adonis and she could never part with it. Ever. Should anyone ever see it and question why she wears it. Her sure fire response is “It’s always more fun to do debauchery with it on, I just know it pisses of my parents and that’s enough for me to keep it on.”
Rosalia is a mega crybaby, not because she’s always in tune with her feelings but because she quickly realized that her turning on the waterworks was the quickest way to get what she wants from people (mostly men). Sometimes a sniffle here and there with her large eyes and pouting lips is enough too. It works like a charm.
Rosalia has many friends and people she hangs out with, but she never lets them in, it wasn’t long after falling that she realized she could never had the kind of connection with anyone, the way she did with Adonis. It haunts her often, the knowledge that she left him alone.
Dancing, singing and sex. Her favorite hobbies, and not exactly in that order. It’s why working at the Inferno is perfect for her. She isn’t the most sought after dancer but that’s ok with her, it leaves her with more time to mess with humans and spoil their chances of entering the pearly gates.
