so if you've been following me for a bit, you've maybe seen me talk about it before, or noticed my tags, or w/e, but I've been in the process of developing a story for the last few years.

I've been calling it hell&highwater.

it's about a witch turned saintkiller turned bartender turned bodyguard, and the saint-to-be who falls in love with her. it has a tarot-based world and magic system, a culture centered around witchcraft and magic, people who can turn into dragons, Arcane Saints, lots of action, and i've made over 300 characters for it so far. most of the characters have three different names (magic !!). and just this last week, I started writing up the script and drawing out thumbnails as I...get ready to actually make the thing.

i'm definitely going to be posting stuff about it here still, but if you want to see more or ALL i share about it; i'll be doing lots of h&h updates on my patreon (which IS 18+, h&h is going to be for mature audiences. also i'm trying to draw more smut). I've already posted lots of worldbuilding stuff there, and will be doing more as I go !! I rarely show wips but i'm pretty excited about...where all this is going, tbh.

Before we get to the footage, I must show the cut content, which really was just how I was original going to make the novel, mostly animated in TVPaint

I was able to do an animatic for all the scenes necessary, which did take me a long while despite using stick figures. I scrapped the animation for the novel again because I realised I didn't need to animate absolutely everything considering it's still a novel but also because when it came to consideration, I would not have had enough time to finish it all in the time I had left. The animatic took a good couple of weeks and they were just stick figures, to then have to lineout the actual characters into the scenes and make those adjustments on top of it, and then to colour it all in, would've taken too long in the time period I had to make this, along with balancing other projects I needed to get done.

This was where the blessing in disguise of the audio animation, and observation of one of my peers helped me out. I realised I could complete the project by using after effects to put together still frames to make them look a little animated and still give the story that novel feel. I got to making my assets such as poses, an elongated background to pan across when changing scenery in the same environment, text boxes and whatever else, and got to making the interactive graphic novel.

Like another project I will talk about in another post, I found with this module, when I started the project again, I got the task done in significantly less time than when I was struggling to complete it beforehand. A trait I picked up in college when doing an exam like project. If it's not working, start again from a different angle like the "mad man" I am, a statement from a former tutor in college

Like I. I know peril is super mentally ill and not exactly ready for a full on romantic relationship but. He likes her and she likes him in a clearly deeper way than your average friendship. They can take it extremely slow. If there’s anybody I’d trust with perils crazy ass it’s calm and understanding clay, who is happy to work with her and let her take her time before things get too serious. They’re sweet ok

Plus, personally, there’s just something really romantic to me about the two people that happen to meet and fall in love in are the one person that burns everything she touches, and the one person she can’t burn❤️
