canon divergence tedtrent au where instead of ted sleeping with sassy in liver pool, ted sleeps with trent. it’s not a stretch to say trent would be there to watch the game as many other reporters were, and not even that far of a stretch to say he was staying in the same hotel. they run into each other soon after the team gets there and of course ted lights up seeing trent and trent blushes about 10 different shades of red. after the game and singing the divorce papers ted goes down to the hotel bar where he finds trent, and ted’s just vulnerable enough to act on that little part of his brain that has always been attracted to men (especially trent, since he had met him.)

ted freaks out after they hook up, much the same in canon, however it’s for a few more reasons. for one, trent is probably the first man ted has ever been with that seriously, and the first time since like college, and secondly it is right after he divorced michelle so there’s that guilt, and third, he really really likes trent. ted talks to the newly formed diamond dogs about his predicament (using very vague terms as to keep both his and trent’s privacy) and decides that he is allowed to want things, especially this.

ted doesn’t see trent again after that until the next press conference. (the next one that is shown in the series is 1x9, which is probably about a couple weeks after 1x7) ted, excited to see trent again makes a point of answering his questions with a smile, and catches trent after the conference to officially ask to see him again. I just love the idea of ted and trent having been hooking up since season one and having a messy on and off again relationship because they’re middle aged divorced dads and they’re figuring it out!!

now i probably won’t write this but if any tedtrent writers got inspired by this, by all means you should write it lmao, that would be very fun, i would read 100%

i can't stop thinking about eiffel's birthday. he's almost forty. there's no way he ever thought he would live to be forty, by bad luck or bad habits; he was facing twenty-six years in prison before he was thirty, he thought he'd die in deep space (in a multitude of ways), and even before all of that... i don't think eiffel ever planned to have a future, not really. he's almost forty. he's old enough to watch his daughter grow up. to get gray in his hair. to have all of the junk food he's eaten in his life finally catch up to him.

and on the other side of that, you know he teased minkowski relentlessly when she turned forty, with no foresight that it would one day be him. and he is so, so lucky she's not as petty as she could be. i don't think turning forty bothered her that much, but eiffel? oh he's going to have a crisis. he should get a motorcycle; he tinkers with it and shows it off and talks about it constantly, but he never learns how to actually ride it. he keeps putting that part off.

he's turning forty. i realize the implications of that really depend on how you feel about eiffel post-canon, in a variety of ways. but to me it's like a celebration of his long history of unlikely survival. it's so funny and heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure, and i think that's a very doug eiffel combination of emotions.

actually looking back on it it was kinda funny that i turned out trans because as my parents first child (and also an accident), they had no fucking idea what to do so they defaulted to getting me all the most stereotypical female disney princess shit and baby dolls and barbies for the first few years of my life, only to find out that i was an absolute gremlin of a creature who loathed everything they gave to me and wanted nothing more than to play Lets Behead Baby with hot wheels and war with dinosaurs and scribble blood all over my lunchbox because it was covered in disney princesses and i fucking hated disney princesses. like i was the most difficult fucking kid and i know it (part of it was the undiagnosed autism), but i also came out of the woumb already knowing i was a boy and fighting everyone who tried to tell me otherwise as viciously as a little kid could

I am realising my visual references are a mix of totally disastrous or three years out of date, but this is the Cheyen family situation for those who are kinda mildly-maybe-sorta interested!

Cheyen's full legal name is Cheyen Cheyen, he has six kids.

Eldest is also called Cheyen Cheyen, you can call her Cheyen♀ for simplicity! She's furious that she lives in such a long shadow.

Second eldest is Marie Cheyen!

Third is Experiment 473.B, Threebie for short, who is legally recognised as Cheyen's offspring despite being a gelatinous green blob in a jar. Don't think too hard on this. Threebie is said to be a genius to rival the eldest.

Next is Cheyen Cheyen AGAIN, but this one is his son, so he can safely be called Cheyen♂. He says he hates his father most but he's actually wrong, his older sisters have been hating for 10 years longer than him

His youngest girl, Chaya, she's 8 years old, and an EXACT clone of Cheyen; for this reason, she is obviously his favourite child. She asks for a radioactive pony every birthday and Cheyen gives it to her

Youngest is an evil four year old called Ernest who is, we can argue, the most evil because he likes maths. Nightmare Before Christmas looking little man who's hobby other than maths is biting people, but to be fair he is VERY enthusiastic about that

Importantly, they almost all hate him or find it extremely embarrassing to be related to him so avoid him at all costs. This relationship may somewhat explain why Orta reminds him of his daughters (all want him dead).
