Like, you're talking with other academics? Great, use academic language. You're a social media account trying to interact with the general public? I know my experience is not universal, but I biked 5+ miles to do my errands today and I genuinely think we'd be much happier as a human collective if we increased residential density and switched to largely alternative modes of transportation.

#I don't know /how/ you'd do it exactly but this is my vision: #all cars are kept outside a certain perimeter. you can own a car and rent your outside-the-city parking spot; #or you can just reserve/rent a communally owned car when you need one #trucks and deliveries can cross the perimeter on a job but after the work is finished they must be returned to the exterior #inside the city perimeter you can: walk or run; bike or scooter or skateboard #or you can take public transit! there are many more buses and they can move much more freely in a car-less environment #there is also the option of cabs but - and this is key - the cabbies are unionized and the service is public #like the trains and buses. #there is no privately-controlled transit in the city. it belongs to everyone. #and because the lines of parked cars disappear from the streets; they are much better utilized #more kids play in the street. more block parties. more street fairs. #take back the space!!! #anyway this is my vision. #celestial emporium of benevolent knowledge

Kind of a rant

In Japan, being a public disturbance is reallyyyy frowned upon and if someone is, it's pretty common that a stranger will scold them. Usagi and Mamoru's dynamic in the first season gets misunderstood, because that sort of thing doesn't really exist in the US. Usagi's primary setting is "public disturbance" and Mamoru coincidentally keeps being the person who scolds her. Americans just see it as bullying because the idea of a stranger scolding you (for something *you* did wrong) is foreign to them. The US is individualist but Japan is collectivist, so there's more accountability for bad public etiquette.

people are just constantly like "why is he bullying her😢😢" during scenes where usagi is breaking like 5 massive social rules at once. for context, some japanese social rules that will get you scolded if broken would be: yelling, talking loudly, sitting on the ground, crawling, throwing things (duh), running, bumping into people, and eating while walking (you could run into someone).

when mamoru makes fun of her for "stuffing her face" or something, he's not criticizing her for eating, he's criticizing her for eating while walking.

basically, the concept is "what if the person who is rude in public and the person who scolds them ended up being in love haha". it's really not that deep, like it's just silly. usagi ignores basic social rules, and then acts dense when she's being scolded, so the five year olds at home can be like "haha that's so silly. also i shouldn't eat my candy while walking so i don't run into people like she does".

these interactions are a comedic way to teach young children everyday etiquette, basically. and mamoru's scolding being completely ineffective and making the issue worse adds to the comedy

(i do think gently explaining to her that she's bothering others is what would get through to her, but that's not very funny and would be really anticlimactic so.. also her character arc is literally about being less self centered and taking others into account more, like these fights are thematically important too.)

slowly returning to the big miravi fic i was working on and trying to recall everything that i was going to have each individual chapter be, though i might also discard the chapter names i had going as a theme (or to add them back later, after its finished) since i dont know exactly how many chapters this will be

also im thinking about adding another merfolk in the beginning scene, both because it helps set the scene as something weird going on (since miranda's serfs are notably not merfolk and aaravi has only seen other merfolk than miri and bell inside of the actual merkingdom), and because im REALLY thinking about how i write the help lately and all of miri's serfs and staff and servants and fleshing them out. its been a huge pain in my side how every single fucking thing lately refuses to include the help and to write them out, including trying to include rich, powerful characters who dont need staff or help to run their estates or do anything, in a way that notably does not exist in reality and only serves to further mentally and psychologically separate out the classes.

which is both good and bad because, oh boy, i get to design more merfolk characters! but also, OH NO, I HAVE TO DESIGN MORE MERFOLK CHARACTERS.

oh hey i saw that new zilla. its a fucking vfx tour de force, godzilla is fucking evil and nasty and despite being the smallest godzilla in quite a while feels FUCKING ENORMOUS. i watched it w the gfs in four dee ecks so the fucking chair whipped around and blew air past my ear which was ridiculous and for a few limited moments really did enhance the experience. mostly it was just stupid fun though. anyways. spoiler cut.

the rah rah we got beat in a war so this time well Win in a war done by Private Citizens and not the evil Government really rubbed me the wrong way. that characters are ok, acting is fun, story is melodramatic but hey its fucking godzilla. but more than any of that the Well Boy What If You Kamikazed Better And Didnt Die shit just really bummed me out. i guess its not really out of line with any other big budget blockbuster out there, but man. what a shame.

i really Really like the vfx work in this movie, its viscerally thrilling in a way im not sure ive ever seen godzilla. but that story is genuinely so distasteful to me i think i have to give it a 3/5. i can't recommend going to see this movie enough. godzilla fuckin rules in it. the actings good too! the period-ness of it plays well! its a fun ass movie! three outta five!

This is probably a long time coming, but as I feel like this blog has officially run it’s course and I can no longer manage a single muse blog for Kensuke anymore due to how dead the RPC has been and how my attempts to be more active on him were met with constant disappointment back when I did try writing him more, I’ve officially decided to transfer him over to my multi over @causalitylinked​, which you are free to follow!

Of course, this means that starting from today, spurnedadulthood will officially be archived, but I will still be keeping any previous relationships with him (even if he now has only, like... three muses that truly formed a bond with him, due to how everyone I was writing with seemed to softblock me, go inactive, deactivate, or retire from the rpc altogether, LMFAO).

But yeah, despite experiencing some very... icky things, I had a blast being here, so thank you all to everyone who ended up giving me and my Kensuke a chance even if I couldn’t commit to his blog long term during 2022 or 2023!
